Preferred Solution: BSOD when playing a game / my graphic card crash.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Alright guys i'm new in this forum first thread but i was really noob when i bought a graphic card for my pc and now i dont have enough cash for a new one, anyway i bought a nvidia geforce 8400 gs 512mb card and when i play any game at all it lags so i played in low settings but then in nvidia control panel i say that anti aliasing and all that was on quality (which in game wasnt even there -.-) but i turned it on max performance and it still runs a little slow and the games i still have to play on low quality settings to have smooth game play, my pc is also good specs are: core 2 duo E7400 @ 2.80Ghz 6gb ddr2 ram. The other problem is i have temporary removed my graphic card and am using internal GPU which has ded vid mem of 128mb but in bios setting i put it on max and i used CpuZ to see how much max is and it shows 320mb but on Personalization>Display settings>Advanced settings it still shows 128mb is there a solution to increase this and is there a solution to run games smoothly on my nvidia graphic card?

Your graphics card is outdated. You should be able to play older games smoothly on it, but newer games will struggle. What games are you wanting to play on this computer?

About 7 months ago, i had to RMA a graphics card cause it kept causing BSOD's. The graphics card I had received from EVGA seemed to be dead on arrival so I RMA'd that one as well. The next one(my current graphics card) worked for about 6 months. About a couple days ago it started to get intense artifacting then the display driver will crash receiving the typical message of "display driver crashed due to taking to long to respond"- but it mostly crashes playing mildly graphic intensive games, sometimes i get crashes just being on the desktop, but it's rare
So far i have tried

Ok, I have read everything I can find and I feel like my head is spinning. I just received a game for my son (Zoo Tycoon 2) we have been playing the demo from the web site and had accidently purchased marine mania and dino digs first. Now I am trying to start it and I don't have the proper graphic card. I have Intel 82810E. The message I get from thier "help menu" says - Intel 82810E - due to limitations with direct X compliance of these graphics chips the game will not start. Driver updates do not resolve issue. Which is true after reading one of the top threads that says to read before posting, I tried all those things and nothing worked. I guess I have to buy or download a new graphic card? I don't know much about computers so my question is - can I find a site, like this one or majorgeeks where I can download a more updated graphic card or is this something that actually has to be purchased and installed in my computer "physically"?

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine. If you have uploaded DMPs before please only the new ones.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.
To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.

Hi guys, I have recently decided to build a gaming computer for myself for the first time. On Sat 10th Dec my parts all arrived and I put the comp together, installed windows ect. Since then I have been having a ton of problems when playing games. When I'm playing games such as Empire: Total War, Starcraft 2, Shogun 2, Just Cause 2, the screen will go black/dark blue and the audio will loop, then the computer will either restart itself or I will have to hard reset it by holding down the on/off button on the front of my case. I have completely no idea as to what could be causing the problem. I have tried downloading and installing Catalyst 11.11, 11.5 and the newest 11.12. I've contacted AMD Support and their support hasn't been great, the best thing they have done is shown me how to uninstall all my drivers properly, which I have done and reinstalled the latest catalyst to no avail. I have also tried re-installing Windows, updated my BIOS to the latest version and downloaded the latest chipset driver. I'm completely stumped on what the problem could be. Sometimes I get a "The AMD Display Driver has stopped responding and has recovered successfully" message. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I've tried posting on other forums but have got no replies. I can attach my DxDiag and MSINFO if needed. I also did a clean re-install of Windows 7 on the 23rd.

A:Non-BSOD crash while playing any game

Sounds like overheating to me.
Check to make sure that:
- the cooler is firmly mounted to the CPU/GPU and has adequate thermal compound (without being excessive)
- that the cooler is clean and free of dirt/dust/hairballs/etc
- that the fan on the cooler is working properly (visually verify that the fan is working on both the CPU and GPU)
- ensure that the proper power connections are firmly connected (the power connections to the motherboard and the video card).
- that the system isn't pumping hot air into the CPU/GPU coolers.

You may want to open up the case and point a house fan (set on high) into the case - then see if that stops or delays the shutdowns.
If so, that's a clear indicator of overheating.

Event logs generally don't show clear signs of hardware caused shutdowns (such as overheating).
Rather, what we look for is a lack of a pattern just before the "unexpected shutdown" error.
Here's a link that describes that error in a bit more detail:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504
So, in short, you'll have to troubleshoot your cooling systems for both the CPU and GPU (these aren't the only things that overheat, but they are the most common).
If nothing fixes that, then we'll look at some reports - so please post back with the results of your troubleshooting.

Hello. I have been recently experiencing crashes and some BSOD while playing an online game, Elsword. When the game freezes my screen may glitch up a bit and Windows becomes entirely unresponsive, and my laptop just emits a high pitched repeating noise. When this happens I have to do a forced shut down. When I turn on my laptop sometimes it'll constantly turn off and turn on before it finally goes up. (But this only happened twice) The strange thing is sometimes it will freeze when I play for a few minutes, or a couple of hours. I almost never experience these issues when I'm browsing the internet or when my laptop is idle but it has happened before, just not nearly as often as this. Let me apologize beforehand as I am not very experienced with computers. If I bother you because I have trouble answering or understanding a question, please excuse my ignorance.

Quote:
"It's not a true crash, in the sense that the bluescreen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception".

Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OSs like XP to crash.

As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds.

If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.

If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating.

Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU.

Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference.

If so, it might be as simple as dust buildup and subsequently inadequate cooling.

I would download cpu-z and gpu-z (both free) and keep an eye on the video temps

STOP 0x116: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR troubleshooting
I would also update to SP-1

Please run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) and then update to SP-1

I've been getting the BSOD error 0x0000001A after i recently reinstalled windows and installing a new graphics card. Originally I was having an issue with my computer when I was only playing the beta of Starcraft 2 where my computer would go into power save mode. I continued using it until about a week ago when on a scorching day my computer wouldn't get past the windows logo screen (my fault for trying to run my computer in my room with the room temp being over 100). Hi.

PC is 3/4 years old with new PSU and HDD in use.
PC was fine after new hardware install.

Had my graphics card OCed for a while (1 year) and had no problems with gaming until about 1 month ago
to which i started getting freezes playing World of warcraft.

I have stopped OCing but this hasnt effected anything.
These freezees still occur in game only but BSOD's happen randomly no matter what.

These BSOD's have only just started.

I haven't ran any tests yet as i wanted to ask for your opinion first with my crash result.

Updated my ATI drivers but had no effect.

Thanks in advance.

Greetings

I have been having a problem as of late dealing with a random screen crash during games.

The game will start up as normal and run smoothly until one point where the game has loaded in to the main menu then the monitor will black out for a brief few seconds then will display a kind of Coloury pattern across the screen (which varies every-time the game/s crash/es).

At this point there is no possibility of backing out of this pattern on-screen with no keyboard or mouse responding to anything I do (ALT+TAB; ALT+ESC; CTRL+ALT+DEL etc.) I have waited for 20 mins to see if it will respond but it still retains the screen, I think that this is to do with my Graphics Card (GeForce 6600 GT) because my computer is still playing sound while this screen is happening.

The games i have tried and failed to play listedWorld of Warcraft: Cataclysm
Borderlands Game Of The Year Edition
Titan Quest
Titan Quest: Immortal Throne
Minecraft (when utilising the Full Screen option found in a FPS increase mod)(OptiFine)
League of Legends (known to me to crash like this but does not always)

My Graphics Card is up-to-date Drivers-Wise and my computer is clean and running smoothly with no overheated components.
Playing a game in windowed mode does the same except there the coloury graphic is just a black screen.
The Specs I can remember are listed in the "Specs Page"

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hello,

for the last few months now, whenever I launch and begin a play a game on my laptop, around 15 minutes in my machine will crash and requires a hard reset in order to work again. This happens on most games, though not others. Titles like Command and Conquer 3 Red Alert and Worms Revolution work fine, however Crusader Kings 2, Mafia 2, Skyrim etc are all but unplayable. Each time the crash happens, the image on screen freezes and my speakers let out a harsh buzzing sound.

I've tried verifying the integrity of my game files, updating my drivers, defragmenting my hard drive, running virus and malware scans among other things, all to no avail. I would be very grateful if anyone would be able to help me, this situation is greatly annoying me.

Thank you

A:Crash when playing every game

Welcome potheel,

Check out the fan(s) on your graphics card and make sure they're still turning smoothly. When the computer is off, most will spin easily with a flick of a finger. Then turn on the PC and check out the fans when you play a graphics intensive game like Skyrim. If the fans are running slowly during the game, you may have a bad fan, or the fan setting might have accidentally been set to manual.

Be careful when checking the fans that you don't burn your fingers on the video card. I suspect that it's getting very hot, and that might be your problem.

Keep us posted.

Hello guys, I hope I come to the right place.

As stated in the title, when I'm playing any game (e.g: NFS Most Wanted 2012, Ryse, Metro 2033 Redux) for less than 10 minutes, the games crash to desktop, usually it hang/freeze (the sound is still there) before a window saying the game stopped working appeared. If I fast enough to close the game, a pop up saying 'Display driver has stopped working...) appeared in the taskbar.

Before this, I am using Windows 7 64bit Ultimate and changed to Windows 8.1 Pro last week, to see if the problem is still there. I installed all the drivers from manufacturer website (I'm using Lenovo y410p for almost a year now) and the problem didn't disappear. I also updated to the latest GPU driver before changing it back to the one provided by the manufacturer (GPU: 750m, latest driver: GeForce 344.60, the driver I'm using: GeForce 327.62) using DDU/clean sweeper for several times but nothing changes. Hence, for a temporary solution, I used MSI Afterburner to downclock the gpu so it can run properly, although the problem is still exist. Right now, I assumed that the GPU is overheat/dust accumulated, since the max temperature the GPU can achieve is 40-50 Celsius, while before this it can go up until 80 Celsius. If the problem is really due to accumulation of dust, I will go to the Lenovo service centre since I still have the warranty.

I hope that anyone can help me to resolve this problem. I have included several files in the thread to be checked. Th... Read more

Hey, sometimes when i play one game or just desktop working my pc crash, reboot and thats it.
In device manager is everything ok. When i go into Troubleshooting only in Audio can't find solution.
Not sure if problem is Realtek or High definiton codec.

Should i remove High Definition Audio Device or Realtek High Definition?
Disabled one... ok
No minidumb files, no bsod...
Still crashing

A:Crash - Reboot when playing game!

Should only use 1 audio device.
Don't remove the other though - instead, disable it in Device Manager
Test each one to see which is best for you.

Even though you're not having BSOD's - Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis (from the Pinned Topic at the top of the forum): Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

Also, Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

I currently have "Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 Green, 512MB" since its ~4year old I was thinking to buy new on soon. In interest is GeForce GTX 650Ti or something near to it.

I recently installed the game: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Everytime I play that game, my computer crashes between 0-60 minutes.

Sometimes my system just reboots completely, but usually I get a blue screen with the following error message: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I only get that message whenever I play that game. Otherwise I only have an error every 2 months or so, almost never.

My system specifications greatly exceed the hardware requirements for this game:

Intel Pentium 4 550 HT @ 3.4 GHz
1024 MB DDR RAM PC3200
250 GB SATA Western Digital 7200rpm HDD
GeForce 6610 XL 128MB DDR3 RAM PCi-Express
Pioneer DVD Burner & DVD ROM
BenQ FP937S 19'' LCD Monitor

I've defragmented my harddisk several times in the last few days, updated my video card drivers, reinstalled the game numerous times and nothing works .

I'm not very familiar with software problems so help would be greatly appreciated!

Regards,

Cygnus

A:Random System Crash playing almost any game

The ASRock P4i65G motherboard is designed for Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP and uses DDR400 RAM, so your computer is well over 10 years old.

You've added a Radeon 9600 series 256 MB graphics card to it which appears to require a 300 watt or greater power supply.

The C: drive is about 90% full, so your computer is loaded with programs or loaded with personal data or both.

What's the brand name and model number and wattage of the power supply in your computer?

and my graphics card is up to date.

some of the BSODs were like memory management or time management or something.

Hello and welcome foodwrap Mate you mentioned memory management was brought up.

Now two things you can do here is
a) reseat the sticks

b) run a memtest if the reseating doesn't have any effect

You will need to make a bootable disk for the memtest and set the BIOS to boot from the optical drive then insert the memtest disk and Save and > Enter.

Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

The machine will boot into the memtest program - no OS is loaded and it will start "testing" the RAM
Now you need to let it run for at least 8 passes unless you start to get red errors straight away.
The test takes quite while and sometimes people run it overnight.

But do the reseat first and have a look to see if any crud is down in the slots. You can take this chance to have a quick once over of the machine for dust etc

See pics for what it will look like when you run the memtest if you have to.

It seems something is going wrong with my GPU or one of the drivers. I feel like it's most likely hardware failure, due to extreme treatment of my laptop. What happens is the whole screen kind of just gets chopped up into squares (sometimes the patterns vary. Sometimes, it's not even a ****ing pattern, just a ****ed up screen) with different colors. It then crashes and attempts to restart but you can't even read the BSOD because the screen is so messed up. Then it will reboot itself but the screen is screwed and if you attempt to run 'windows normally', it will crash and reboot in an endless cycle. I have to start in safe mode, in which there are a bunch of nasty lines that start from left to right on the screen. I can still use the laptop but over time the screens disappear and the screen finally goes back to normal. After this, I can reboot into normal mode. Help!! I can also send pics showing what happens, I just have to play a game and have it crash for me again haha Thanks!

This is my second post here. Unfortunately, the recent thread became inactive.

I've been experiencing crashes on my desktop of a solid colored screen and looping sound.

It's a blue screen error, I was given solutions like fur mark test and memory tests and they were all fine

Now the crashes became a little more often than before (once a day) and lately showing, instead of a colored solid screen, this (attached) checkered pattern comes,

Can anyone please help me find the root of the problem? Is it a hardware problem, just tell me what to do and I'll provide you with info with the best of my abilities

Hey out there,

I came upon this site via Google and saw a "thread" from Brenda about the Legos Star Wars game and a graphic card that supports Pixel Shaders v1.1. I read some of the responses which prompted me to visit the Toshiba webpage. I downloaded the detailed specifications for my laptop but I still can't figure out if I have PCI card or AGP card port. I tried to put the information into the designated slots for the registration profile but there is not enough room. I am a Mom of a 10 yr old who was given this game for his birthday in June. I have just finally come upon this website mentioning the same problem. Our laptop is not very old, maybe 2 years. Any help in directing me where to look on these specs for the card info. I need would be greatly appreciated. I see it says expandability "1 PC Card slot support 1 Type II PC card". Is that what I'm looking for? Hey, I email and can find things I need on the web but games are beyond me. I'm just trying to see if I can get this Lego game working without having to buy a new computer.

Thanks for your time and comments.

Hi. I've recently been trying to play Metal Gear Solid 5 but every time I boot it up my PC either crashes as soon as the splash screens are done or after a few minutes. It's been crashing while playing other games as well but it's been much rarer. It's not a BSOD crash and it doesn't produce any crash dumps so I'm leaning towards it being a problem with either the PSU, the motherboard or one of the graphics cards. Any help with finding the cause of this would be appreciated.

Heya.. I've been searching for an answer to this question all over the internet for about a week now, and I still haven't found anything, so I thought, that I write here...
There's absolutely no problems with MAFIA installation, as I know, many people do. Also, I've reinstalled it about five times, so don't recommend that to me. When I open the game, then first of all, NOD32 determines something.. if you think, that it would help, if I wrote here, what it actually says, then I will write it here, but you gotta let me know. Besides, there's nothing that could be a virus, I have original CD's, right from Gathering of Developer's. Then I close NOD32 form task manager, and open Mafia again (the last time nothing but the NOD note appeared). This time is almost the same, only without the NOD notification. When I look at the task manager processes, then Game.exe appears for a half of a second, but that's all, and even that isn't happening every time. Once, way back, about 3 months ago p) it gave me 'Init error'. Then I looked up in the internet and Illusion Softworks had said, that most of the 'Init errors' comes from the graphic card drivers or not updated DirectX. DirectX is up to date, but here comes my problem, there's just no drivers for my graphic card on ATI website. Ofcourse, I've looked from other sites but still notning normal..

Now clearly: If I open Game.exe, nothing happens, what to do? I ... Read more

Hey all...got a serious problem here I was hoping someone might know how to fix.

I'm finding while playing Half Life 2 (as well as Battlefield 2) my computer randomly completely locks up while playing the game. It seems to be random, as no appears to trigger the lock up (it seems to happen anywhere from 1 minute to 1 hour of game time)...I'll just be running down a corridor and then the screen will lock, the last 1/2 second of sound will simply loop over and over and I cannot exit out of the game and have to reboot the system to even shut the program down at all.

Some specs....running a G-Force FX 5600, with 1 gig of ram and a 2.6 gig Pentium 4. Before you ask, all my drivers are up to date (even running on the new ones that came with Battlefield 2) and I've had this problem for months and had a couple driver updates in that time, and that has not fixed the problem.

This problem does not occur on most of the other games I have (halo, tiberian sun) only Half Life 2 and Battlefield 2 is it a problem...and it's a major one. It has rendered the games virtually unplayable since it's so random and because I have to reboot the system and reload the game it takes almost 10 minutes to get back into it. I got frustrated and quit half life 2 cause I couldn't play it, and now the problem has re-surfaced for Battlefield 2.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Compaq Presario 5320US Desktop PC, the Video card is NVIDIA Vanta TNT-2 16MB AGP Video Card Revision 0. trying to play a game (Nancy Drew Warnings at Waverly Academy) i get error, the video card not match minumem requirememnts to run this game. how can i fix this? I am running Windows 7.

A:Video Card not playing game

Well, that is seriously underpowered equipment for Windows 7, but the demands of that game are modest for such a recent release.

Your system specifications are here:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00009492&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=93212

and the game minimum requirements:

http://www.herinteractive.com/Mystery_Games/Nancy_Drew/Warnings_at_Waverly_Academy/pc

The key factor seems to be:

"32 MB DirectX 9.0 compatible video card"

You'd need to upgrade to an AGP 4x video card with at least 32MB of RAM, DX9 and Windows 7 compatibility and modest power consumption as your system only has a 235W PSU. The standard Vanta supplied is a low profile card, but has a full height backing plate, so I don't think a low profile card is essential. I'm out of touch with the market for older AGP cards, but maybe if you could find something like a 128MB nVidia 6600 at a market or on eBay, it might suit.

Other posters may have further suggestions too.

I have a BSOD problem. I thought it's only dust build-up so I cleaned my PC. It went well for a day, but then it happened again. When I don't play games, or when I play lower quality games I have no problem. But when I play games like Skyrim, Black Ops, Revelations, etc. it happens in around 10min time period.

A:BSOD playing high graphic games

The pre 2009 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.

Scroll down to the utilities category, then scroll down to the "atk0110 driver for windowsxp/vista/windows 7 32&64-bit" (it's about the 12th item down).

Download and install it.

Go to c:\windows\system32\drivers to check and make sure that the asacpi.sys file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (not before).

Hi TenForums!

First of all, this is my first post here, although I've followed many threads before without an account. I hope I come to be of value to this community.

The main reason I'm writing though is another: I purchased a Clevo P650RG laptop, and I going crazy with BSOD's when gaming. Oddly, they seem to happen only in some games. So far, Assassin's Creed Black Flag, Skyrim Special Edition and The Crew. They don't last 30min without giving me BSOD's, always related to ntoskrnl.exe

Although, these game are somewhat secondary to me, as I'm more into sim-racing, and I'm able to play Assetto Corsa with my G27 wheel for more than an hour without any problem. So I'm assuming it happens only when I push harder for the hardware since Assetto is relatively light on it. Also, I've working hours straight on it without problems.

I've tried a lot of drivers already, mostly CPU and GPU, but I'm lost. I don't think the problem comes from faulty hardware, but if so I'd also like to know if there's a way to check that (already ran almost half of Memtestx86 without errors though).

I'm attaching a zip created as instructed in "BSOD Posting Instructions" in case someone has a clue of what's going on.

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,
EdwardFFS

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop with a Vista operating system. In the last few days I have been getting a black screen while playing spider solitaire. The computer is still working as I can see behind the black a little and the game is still there. I have to turn off my computer manually. Also I ran a scan on my computer and it said I have 26 out-of-date drivers. Is there any free clean up for this? Thanks for any help you can give me. I installed Speccy and this is the file I got. I didn't know if you could get to my computer with this download or not. I also did this screen shot. Maybe this will help. I'm not to sure of what I'm doing. http://speccy.piriform.com/results/XHX67bM0867D2Tvhmvj4urB

A:asus 9600 pro vid card freezes while playing a game

let's see some detailed specs of your pc. generally, problems like yours are caused by either an insufficient psu or some PC component overheating, nemaly the graphics card. you should try running the system with the side panel off to greatly lower the component temperatures.

I recently purchased Crysis 2, and once in a while my game crashed and I get bluescreen with the memory dump. I used to have this problem with the same PC with CoD 4, but that problem disappeared after a while. I have no problems with all the other games I play, including Crysis 1 and many other games.

I have the dump file, and I can attach it if someone can use the file to understand what my problem is. Heres the file
