Malwarebyte Firewall Disable Notify Detection

Q: Malwarebyte Firewall Disable Notify Detection

A recent full scan by Malwarebytes detected the following:Registry Data Items Infected:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\FirewallDisableNotify (Hijack.SecurityCenter) -> Bad: (1) Good: (0) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.I run Comodo firewall and all has been normal. Both Avira and Comodo have been active with no other noticable problems on my XP SP3 machine.I had just completed a virus scan by Avira that was clean before Malwarebyte made this detection. I did reboot immediately after the Malwarebyte detection.I just completed a quick scan by SuperAntiSpyware that was clean after Malwarebyte scan.Any other issues here I need to be concerned about? Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

See this discussion thread.nosirrah said:MBAM is re-enabling this function in your logIf you are seeing these with no other signs of infection then it is far more likely that your 3rd party security software has disabled these warnings to prevent duplicate security warnings and in these cases telling MBAM to ignore them once will forever solve the issue .

Hello. I am trying to stop the Windows Security Alerts Taskbar notification icon from showing. I disabled Security Center and Security Accounts Manager in "Services", but the notification icon is still there. I want to kill every un-needed process to free up CPU and memory(as I am optimizing for performance), rather than simply hiding it in taskbar properties menu(which would probably still have it running).
I think I found the registry key:
SVC\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\Svc\S-1-5-21-4137006042-56807685-2926720527-1000
Tried to Change Enable notifications to 0, wouldn't let me . Error notice said "Cannot edit, Error writing the values new contents".

Any Ideas? Thanks in advance!

A:How to completely stop notify icon, not just disable.

This won't help with performance much (if at all), by the way.

Double click on the icon to bring up the Security Center. On the left, click "Change the way Security Center alerts me", then click the bottom one. Done.

I decided to try out windows firewall and it works. I turned on in and out bound filtering and set windows firewall to alert me when blocking a program. Then I opened up firefox, and it's blocked so the firewall is doing it's job, but there's no notice from windows telling me that it blocked a program. I've never used windows firewall before but from my experience firewalls should give you a nice popup that lets you allow or deny and some other options. Why doesn't windows firewall do this?

Thanks for your time.

A:windows firewall doesn't notify

Afaik Windows firewall only ever alerts you when a program wants to listen for network connections (like a p2p application or a game server for example).

There might be a way to configure it otherwise but it looks a bit daunting and not much worth the hassle since other third-party firewalls are able to do a much better job of it.

Two days ago my EEEPC901/XP's screen went black and wouldn't come back on. After a reboot I got a BSOD saying it couldn't restart windows. I don't remember what the actual message was, but managed to get the computer up and running again after disabling Hyper threading in the BIOS.I was having some problems earlier with installing windows updates and the computer seemed to lag sometimes so I decided to check for a virus. Usually I use Housecall because I'm a bit paranoid about virusscanners such as Norton and McAffee and even AVG gets on my nerves. Housecall installed fine but gave me a "Iexplorer couldn't load sometingsomething" malfunction. I dont remember the details because Hitman pro fixed the issues. (Had some agentX trojans?). Now I wanted to be sure my computer was bug-free and tried to use Malwarebyte. It installed perfectly, but after the database was updated it gave me the "the current database is not supported by this version of Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware. Please download the latest version of the program." Uninstalled it, used MBAM-clean to clean up, cleaned after with Ccleaner (both files and register), rebooted, reinstalled, ran without updating. This got it running but when MBAM starts scanning the program closes itself without any warnings after 4 seconds. Ive tried everything, removed all the anti-virus leftovers, even tried installing the MBAM prefs exe that was posted for someone else. No improvement. Install... Read more

Not that I really want them, but...

I found the audit warning in the event logs recurring many times -
"Windows Firewall was unable to notify the user that it blocked an application from accepting incoming connections on the network.
Error Code:2"

There are other alerts saying that - Windows Firewall is "marked as an interactive service. However, the system is configured to not allow interactive services. This service may not function properly."

I got the same message about the 'TrueVector Internet Monitor' while I had Zone Alarm running (which I had to uninstall because it wouldn't work). I was not getting alerts on that either.

Weird??

I've found nothing on the KB about this, or on any of those MS forums.

Hi,

I am trying to disable "Neighbor Unreachability Detection", to avoid that a PC communicates via the default gateway to a local network device when this device is not currently available. In any case the PC shall send its data packets directly,
not via the gateway.

I've found the command "netsh interface ipv4 set interface "<interface name>" nud=disabled store=persistent", but this command does not really work: Command "netsh interface ipv4 show interface <interface>" still
shows enabled.  "netsh -c interface dump" shows the disable-command within the IPv4 configuration, but it seems that this command is not honored. And the PC is still using the default gateway in case a device can not be reached locally.

I also found an article stating that the command is not honored, at least with Windows Server 2012:
https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/29026862/Multi-homed-Win2012R2-server-passing-private-NIC-traffic-out-production-NIC-gateway-Why.html

Is that also true for Windows 7? Is there any way to disable "Neighbor Unreachability Detection"?

Thanks in advance!

I have spent some time trying to Google this to no avail. I have a laptop with Windows 7 Pro that I use to troubleshoot network connections, routers, etc. Any time I connect a cable, the computer tries to detect whether or not I have internet connection by testing the DNS and seeing if it gets a response. This is great for home users who could use this information in a troubleshooting situation, however, most of the devices I use are in various stages of setup and DO NOT have an active internet connection. This feature takes about 30-60 seconds and is bothersome when I have to reboot the device and wait for windows to make up it's mind before I can access the router configuration again. Does anyone know if there is a way to turn this feature off permanently, or even for the current session?

Hi there.

I decided to test out Windows 7 and take it for a testrun and until now I have noticed a few issues I have let passes but this one takes the cake.

My jack detection is a little bit out so if the cable moves in a certain direction, it will detect it as the jack being disconnected and connected again with the slightest movement.

This was no problem with XP, it would still stream out audio throught the audio jack even if it detected that the jack was disconnected or not. In Windows 7, not so much.

If the jack port is not properly sending a message about it being connected, Windows 7 will disable it, shut down and disable every option for it until you connect it again. This is particle annoying when the motherboard itself has a broken jack detection and the only resolution is to buy a new motherboard.

In my previous case of the instant disconnected/connected, it will create an empty space of silence for like a 0.5 sec - 2 sec in the middle of the song.

What I was thinking is if it's possible to disable this behavior in any way?
Sincerely:
Jonatan Nilsson

I had the same experience when first using Win-7, it's the auto-sensing built in to the OS and drivers. Is your internal audio by "Realtek"?

In my case I sprayed the 3.5mm speaker plug with a small amount of contact cleaner and worked in in/out of the speaker jack a few times.

Yes, WinXP ignored the auto-sensing and worked flawlessly. Win-7 has several new layers (of mostly [email protected]) built into the audio system.

If your audio device is Realtek, there is at least one related parameter that I know of. Open the Realtek control panel. Right click on the simulated input/output jacks on the right hand side. If you see "connector retasking" select disable the auto pop-up dialog check box. There is also a small folder at the top right, open and select "Disable Front Panel Jack Detection" de-select the auto popup dialog.
Don't know why but this seemed to stabilize my system even though these are related to inputs.

issue

i recently upgraded to an sli graphics configuration. since upgrading, my previous method of avoiding the TDR driver crash has stopped working.
known fix that i can't get to work anymore

when running a single gpu, i could disable and uninstall the nvidia hd audio device, then disable and uninstall the hd audio controller under system devices. problem solved, no crashes.

after adding the second gpu, there are now two hd audio devices and two hd audio controllers. upon disabling or uninstalling either controller, the system automatically re-installs the hd audio devices previously uninstalled, which in turn causes the hd audio controller to re-enable/re-install itself.

to be clear, all hd audio devices and hd audio controllers on my system must be disabled AND uninstalled to prevent TDR (or, since the upgrade, full system freezes or restarts. sli = double TDR?)

I have Office Calendar. It used to work with my comp as the server and 2 others as the cleints. Something changed and now we are having problems communicatting between the comps, even though I have another program where I am the server and it work on the other 2. Here's what they said:

The results of the TELNET test (Could not open connection to the host, on port 1802: Connection failed) indicate that this is an issue within your specific network environment. TELNET is an Internet standard protocol for remotely logging into another computer. Your test results indicate that port 1802 is blocked and is not allowing any communication to take place over this port. The test does not specify whether or not the server or the client is the culprit, but if you have other clients that can connect to the same server, then chances are that the culprit is the specific client that can not connect.

By default OfficeCalendar communicates and synchronizes data over port 1802. Because of the port blockage referenced above, OfficeCalendar communication is being blocked as well. This is not an OfficeCalendar related issue since all communication is being blocked. In order to allow OfficeCalendar to function properly you will need to have someone on your end find the means to unblock port 1802. This could be a firewall issue, a network issue, a hardware issue (such as a router or switch) or a 3rd party software conflict (such as Norton Anti-virus, etc.).

(Systemax), and get a rebuild for a file called TCIP spacks........Is this a normal thing??????how can they tell if a file is corrupted? Anyway I refuse to go the internet (after all the work you guys and gals helped me do) without my firewall, and so of course every time I try, Macaffee screams at whatever they did and I have to tell it to allow it and all....Can anyone tell me what they AOL did? I am confused and don't want to make it that my computer can't access through anything but AOL in the future

I have xp, which i hate by the way, and i cannot het rid of the firewall's activity. I am using a comcast supported cable modem. I got this to work about once, for internet gaming and edonkey and the like, but hence forth i cant figure it out for the life of me. Yes yes i have heard of the directions before for noobs : go to start contorl panel network connections>click on the connection>change settings or right click>properties> advanced tab. The thing is here though, is that the advanced tab shows up only when i am not using a bridge. The thing is i have to use a bridge to connect my two connections to use the internet at all. So when the bridge is not there the directions are fine and i can kill the firewall, but no internet then. When i have the bridge the option just disappers(no advanced tab). This is annoying and i have run out of clues. Maybe someone else has one?

In what way is the mouse cursor "acting funny"? Is the mouse not working? Is it not longer the arrow that it should be? "Acting funny" doesn't really say WHAT the problem is...

I was trying to clean up my computer a little by running some scans (spybot, ewido, bitdefender, adaware). They all went fine, but when I rebooted, my windows firewall had been enabled (I've been using Kerio for a while now) and it won't give me the option of disabling it (as it's greyed and has some nonsense about a group policy). I've read similar threads on the bleepingcomputer before, but don't want to attempt to fix it myself as I will surely screw it up. Any help would be fantastic (you guys already saved my butt once).Thank you,CoryP.S. Also noticed I have a second network connection setup now which I don't believe was present before.(Just thought I'd mention it).Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 10:42:48 AM, on 18/08/2006Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgamsvr.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgupsvc.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgemc.exeC:\Program Files\ewido anti-malware\ewidoctrl.exeC:\Program Files\Sunbelt Software\Personal Firewall\kpf4... I got this brand new top of the line computer and its got the MS security center in the system tray. I want to completely disable the firewall(regardless of what anyone may advise).
The problem is that it seems kinda stubborn. I keep getting notices asking me if I want to allow an application to have access. So i right click security center, click open it, then I see that it says firewall is ON (little green light thing) SO at the bottom I click firewall so I can change it to off and after checking OFF, I go back and the green light still says the firewall is ON. I also still cant access my computer as I would be able to if it were actually off. How do I just get rid of this dam firewall?

Thanks.

This may seem like a stupid question, but for some reason I cannot disable my windows firewall. I believe the firewall may be the problem with why this one computer on the network cannot be accessed. However, when I go to try and disable the firewall, I cannot as the option to disable it is grayed out. At the top it says "For your security, some settings are controlled by Group Policy."

Any ideas as to what I can do? I've never seen this before on any computer.

I am a LONG time "user" of computers. First one back in the early 60's in a clean room and we had to wear white coats and go through an air lock to even get TO the computer. However, like my vehicles, I have never learned how they work. I just want to stick the key in the ignition, turn it and have the blooming thing start. Same with the computer. I push the "on" button and expect miracles.

Yesterday, some screen popped up and told me I needed to install Java to have a game I wanted to play work. In walking through this process, Java tells me I have to temporarily disable my firewall. Well, now what???? I am getting ready to scream. Back in the days of the huge room sized computer I had a sign that showed the Road Runner, wild eyed and crazed, with a large sledge hammer in the ready position. The title: HIT ANY KEY TO CONTINUE! I am near that.

Can anyone help me with what apparently are now TWO problems. How to temporarily disable the firewall and then, to download Java. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.....Katie
