Preferred Solution: key @ (shift+2) to " (shift+') after installing Windows 8

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sounds like the wrong keyboard language/system language is being used.

Go to control panel and change it there.

My old keyboard was refusing to re-initialize after the peripheral reset during win 7 boot. It's about a decade old, so I just assumed it was dead. I replaced it with my wireless keyboard I use for working on computers, Ms laser 8000. My keyboard now initializes fine, but shift L and Shift E are non functional. Sticky keys is off, along with all the other accessibility features. The keys work fine without shift pressed, and shift works with very other key.

I'm out of ideas, anyone have some?

Hi All.

I recently moved from Avast to MSE and I was wondering if there was a way to shift the Scan with MSE context menu item to the Shift+Right Click menu instead. I did a little googling and tried the "extended" registry key but that didn't seem to work (unless I put it in the wrong place).

Thank you in advance for your help!

A:Move "Scan with Microsoft Security Essentials" to Shift+Right Click

Welcome to Seven Forums BaconCatBug. You should be able to add items to the extended menu, but I don't know if it will also reside in the standard menu.

You might also see if the entry is listed via Shell Menu View. If so, the program also has an extended view (File> Set extended view) you can use to add it there.

Hi there,
I'm a new user to excel 2007 (have used 2003 a fair amount). I am creating a worksheet of my survey data & I keep running into the "cannot shift objects off sheet" error when I attempt to resize the width of the columns. My columns look like this:

Title of Question (with a comment)
Answer Description (with a comment)

I have tried to delete the comments, but that doesn't seem to make any difference. I have also deleted rows at the bottom and columns to the right, without any effect.

Thanks!

I have been trying to install Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed (Limited Edition) on my laptop, HP Envy 17 1050EA, but I have been having no luck at all. After starting the installation, all I get is that the installation wizard is stuck on "Copying new files", and the disc drive is clicking.
Now before you start asking, "Is the disc itself/disc drive faulty?", I'll tell you this:
I have tried out installing GTA IV on my laptop and it has worked fine. No problems were even encountered when playing a DVD.
I have managed to install the game, from the disc, on a different PC.
I wonder if that this kind of disc isn't recognised by my laptop, or that the disc drive is starting to be faulty with this kind. Please help.

A:Clicking from disc drive when installing NFS Shift 2 (Limited Edition)

Another possibility is the lens in the drive needs to be cleaned. To put it in perspective, a CD player's lens should be cleaned about once every 10 hours of music. However, this can be extended by always being extremely anal about the cleanliness of the discs before they are inserted. For example: I carefully examine both sides of every disc for any specks of anything at all. I look straight on it, and I also look at it from the side. I also adjust my position in order to get different angles of light just in case I missed a speck. Then, when I determine that it is 100% clean, I put it in the drive. After all, when the disc starts spinning, anything on it is thrown off and it blows around inside and can eventually land right on top of the lens. Over time, dust and debris from dirty discs can build up and cause problems like this.

I am always using the "Copy as path" option and it is a pain to always have to press Shift to get this and some other additional context-sensitive menu options.

Is there a way to enable the "Copy as path" option so that it is there in the regular right-click context menu, with no pressing of the Shift key required?

Thanks!

A:Can "Copy as path" be enabled permanently without Shift

Not sure what exactly that does but you CAN add any context menu items you want to the normal right click context menu for explorer.

Unfortuantely it reguires registry editing.

If you google for the instructions for creating the very common "Command Promt From Here" context menu item, you could adapt that to change the name and the function that you are looking for. "Power Toys" may also allow you to edit context menu items for explorer.

From the web:Navigate in your Registry to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Classes/Folder/Shell

and create a key called "Command Prompt" without the quotes.
Set the default string to whatever text you want to appear in the right-click menu.
Create a new key within your newly created command prompt named "command," and set the default string to cmd.exe /k pushd %1You may need to add %SystemRoot%\system32\ before the cmd.exe if the executable can't be found.
The changes should take place immediately. Right click a folder and your new menu item should appear.

I have a problem about the shift delete. It has always been great, ever since wins 3.1 i have been using this command to skip the bin middlemen. I kinda remember that in xp and anything prior, you can set the files to be read only, and even if you mis shift delete some files, it will at least ask you yet once again: if you really want to delete this read only files?? Well may be i remembered wrong, but right now in vista, i have mistakenly delete important files on numerous times.

may i ask are there any ways to set some files to be "harder" to delete?? or at least warn you again with the name of those particular files( instead of telling you that the windows about to delete files you selected)??

I know this is a weird request, but i have so used to the shift delete, and i really hate the bin....

Hi all (first post, so I thought I should start with a hi)

When I use windows (Vista) normally, my right shift works fine, but when I used programs like DosBox or pinball games (or any other game for that matter), my right shift seems to stop working (computer doesn't recognize that it has been pressed). I don't see any reason for it to "disappear" like that .

I don't have another keyboard to test it out, but I don't think it is a hardware issue (I've thought maybe it is Vista's fault... seems to have the blame on everything...). I've tried changing the keyboard's language, but it doesn't change the shift problem.

My computer is a HP (and so is the keyboard), if that helps...
If someone could figure out what's up, I would be forever grateful, as I have no idea!

Not quite. As I read it "As of July 28, 2016, all new device models, lines or series (or if you are updating the hardware configuration of a existing model, line or series with a major update, such as CPU, graphic cards) must implement and enable by default TPM 2.0 (details in section 3.7, https://msdn.microsoft.com/library/windows/hardware/dn915086(v=vs.85).aspx)" This applies only to new designs, not existing ones. if i press shift and a number, sometimes the open file dialog box comes up, but nothing consistently.

this is seriously not a joke. the logitech website says that the native windows drivers should perform fine. The keyboard attached to the laptop works fine, but it's smaller and hard to type on regularly.

But i am worried as to whether it will just delete the contents of my C drive or the whole hard disk? Because i have a good damn deal of content on my other drives.

A:Does windows 8 shift to 32 bit to 64 bit require a complete reformat?

There is no upgrade path from a 32 bit to a 64 bit OS so a clean install is necessary. These systems are really very different internally. You would need to format the partition containing the OS and all installed applications will need to be reinstalled, even if on other partitions.

Data on other partitions should not be effected but you should have a full backup anyways. Sometimes people use the wrong partition and loose all their data. There are many ways you can loose data and you need to be prepared when, not if, something happens. All important files need at least one backup copy, those of particular importance need 2 or more.

Hi,
I have about a dozen Firefox tabs open on my taskbar at the bottom of the screen. Win7 64bit on Dell E6510. But some of them will shift position on the taskbar on their own. Happens all the time, and it's very aggravating because I'm needing to be able to hit them quickly and often and need to have them stay in the expected position. Can't afford the time to hunt around for them. For example finance.yahoo.com will often move itself to the far right. Even BigCharts.com is doing this now. None of my searches on the web can answer how to stop this. It's easy to grab/drag a tab window for another application around on the taskbar, but within the single application of Firefox this doesn't work. Why/how are these windows shifting around? This never happens on my other laptop, a WinXP SP3 machine. Thanks for your suggestions!

A:taskbar tabs for my many firefox windows shift

If you don't mind me asking, and not trying to insult you, but why have you chosen to have a dozen single instances of Firefox open rather than using the tab feature built into Firefox. I typically have anywhere between 3 and 15 tabs open in Firefox but only one icon down in my taskbar.

I think that if you try it that way it will solve your issue of them moving around since there will only be one instance of Firefox open and you can quickly identify which tab is which page by looking at the heading.

Additionally Firefox offers the ability to move the tabs around so you can easily organize the most important ones.

to open a new tab in Firefox click the plus sign, also called the "New Tab" button, located at the end of the row of tabs on the top, far-right side of your browser window. A new tab appears.

Hope this helps and hopefully this can make things a little bit easier for you.

Good Luck

Hi there. As a veteran of Windows 7, an eternal battle I struggle with is that Windows Explorer does not seem to have any shortcut key to scroll horizontally in Details view. Is there any sort of registry tweak, workaround, or even autohotkey script, or anything at all that can avail me in this struggle?

Every other modern, sensible, half decent program has some functionality like shift+scrollwheel to scroll horizontally.

Based on reading other threads on this topic from a Google search, I anticipate that there might be some confusion about what I'm referring to, so let me preemptively clarify a bit:

Horizontal scrolling works fine in List view and Icons view. This is because those views do not have a vertical scroll bar, so vertical mousewheel scrolls are interpreted as horizontal scrolls. I want horizontal scrolling for Details view when there is both a horizontal and vertical scrollbar. If you don't believe me, set Explorer to Details view, make the window small enough so both scrollbars appear, and then try your darndest to scroll horizontally without clicking the scrollbar. You won't be able to.

Let me also make clear, again based on a common misunderstanding I found from respondents to similar threads in other forums asking about this: I am exclusively talking about Windows Explorer. Not Excel or Internet Explorer or Chrome or anything else.

Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

Half life blue shift not working on windows xp

'shortofafulldeck' raised the same issue as I've got. Has anyone else seen this and found a solution? The game was working fine until I installed Kaspersky. I've fiddled about with the Kas firewall and app permissions but still no luck.

Hi guys,
I'm using windows xp and I installed half life blue shift successfully. However, when I try to play the game, my screen goes black for a few seconds before returning me to my desktop. I've tried reinstalling a few times and also changing the compatibility both of which have not worked. I have the original half life which works fine and I uninstalled it to create space for blue shift. This is also the stand alone version of blue shift. Any help you could give me would be much appreciated.

I have and emachine w/Windows Vista Home Basic, I have been having trouble with Zoo on Facebook jamming my computer to the point that I have to hit Ctrl/Alt/Delete to bring up Task Manager and Ending Task - sometimes having to End Process. Tonight when I did this, I had to End Process and somehow my whole desktop turned sideways. My tool bar and the bottom of the screen went to the right while the top went to the left and I now have a vertical screen display. How do I return this to it's normal display? I looked under my Control Panel and couldn't find anything to correct this. HELP! I'm getting an awful crick in my neck!
