Upgrade T450 screen to 1080p

Q: Upgrade T450 screen to 1080p

Hey, I bought a Thinkpad T450 back in November and really like the specs with one MAJOR exception and that's the screen that the laptop has come with. It's astoundingly bad. They didnt offer a 1080p IPS display so I went for a HP+ 1600x900 display as a sort of temprorary option, because I know that if I got a 1260x724 I'd have to invest in a new connector pin. The issue is when I went to ask an IT shop how much it would cost to just replace the screen they told me my Laptop wouldnt support a 1080p IPS screen and it would just be blank saying they've had this issue before. I've seen that people have done it on the internet so I don't really know who to go with here. I suspect they may have tried to go from 724 to 1080p which would explain it. Does anyone have any experience with this and if it is possible to upgrade is there a difference between a t450 and t450s 1080p screen and would either be compatable with each other? As a note they offer my EXACT laptop with a 1080p screen now so again any info I may be missing here regarding why it wouldnt be compatable would be appreciated. Aren't these laptops supposed to be upgradable? It's the whole reason I bought it..

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It looks like they only offer the FHD screen on the "S" model. Having said that, I cannot guarantee it will work, but I would GUESS that it would. They use the same BIOS. Note that if you have any warranty left, replacing the screen would likely void it. Note that the T450 series machines seem to have a custom eeid image and people who have replaced screens using aftermarket panels have reported that brightness controls no longer work.

I've got the basic TN 1366x768 display on my T450 and would like to install a full HD 1080p IPS display. I can't seem to find any information on the forums for screen replacement for this model. Most online display retailers sellers suggest that the edp cable would have to be replaced for a dual channel one. Is this correct? Also, would replacing this display for a full HD blow any fuses in the laptop? Any help on this would be truely appreciated.

A:Screen upgrade from 1366x768 on T450

Welcome to the forum!

There is a FHD panel listed in the parts list on the support side: source: Parts List

Click on the link above and scroll down to page 4, you will see a FHD panel listed with FRU #04X5916. No need to change the cable, there are only two types of cables, one for touch and one for non touch (see on page 3 under "Cables")

Panels are not a self service CRU. If you have warranty on your T450 you may need to contact Lenovo to get the panel changed.

Hope this helps...

Hi, I got a used x240 close to 2 years ago.. and it kinda sat in my closet unused  mainly because it is 768p for the type of work being done it the lower resolution is balls compared to the rest of my machines running 1200p or 1080p. What part can I get to upgrade the panel to 1080p?    the current panel on my unit is the 1366x768 IPS touch screen.   I'm confused as if I can put a non touch screen 1080p one or I have to get a touch screen version.  I don't really care or use the touch screen much but if  I can upgrade the screen to 1080p it would make the x240 usable.   what part number can I get for that?  (and installation manual)

Hi everyone. This is my first post on the forum . I want to upgrade my screen from a 1366x768 screen to a 1080p screen. I have a G50-80 and have been reading several topics on the forum about screen upgrades. What I wanted to find out is, how do I know if I have an eDP 1 Lane or an eDP 2 Lane? I will then go and order a screen knowing which one I need.

I am thinking of upgrading the screen on my Satellite L50t-A-145 from the factory one (1366x768) to a full HD (1920x1080) one. All the hardware people I have spoken to so far have been pretty negative, but from everything that they have said it would appear to be just a case of replacing the LVDS cable (the standard one won't support 1080p, which, if true, leaves me near speechless) and then replace the current screen with a 1080p one with the appropriate physical characteristics (correct size, screw mounting positions, connector position, etc). Does anybody have any experience of doing this or have any relevant knowledge to share? This is my first attempt at upgrading a laptop screen, so all help very welcome.

Hi, I am finally looking to upgrade my otherwise perfect U41-70's horrid WXGA TN panel with a Full HD IPS panel, and have ordered the panel from LaptopScreen.com. However, the devil is in the cables. While my panel hasn't arrived yet, browsing the forums tells me that a 768p panel will have come with a single-lane eDP cable? I am now looking to order a dual-lane cable, hopefully to arrive at the same time as the screen. Could anybody provide me with the correct part number? Lenovo's Hardware Maintenance Manual has been semi-helpful. While it makes it clear that the laptop comes with both HD and FHD panels, it only lists one part number for the eDP cable - see image. Does this mean the existing cable could in fact be compatible with both resolutions, or is the more detailed distinction in the cables simply ommitted from the manual?  Please help! My laptop's S/N: R90HAXKJ   MTM: 80JV009WYA

Hello. I just bough a screen for my computer.
I am using Windows 7 Professional 64bit.
Radeon HD5850 1GB graphic card.
Using HDMI cable

And I was hoping to get a great screen in 1920x1080 resolution by buying this screen. After reading like 10 reviews on google search it was a great match to my demands.

Then I got the screen, and tested it. However when I selected to run in 1920x1080, the quality was horrible!
I try to do print screen, but only the analog display is horrible, not the results on the computer.

However if I tune this down to 1600x1200 resolution, it looks great. But I want to have the full 1920x1080 effect not the 1600x1200 effect.

I checked the drivers, and it says my latest driver is "2009/10/29_001003". Witch looks like a recent date.

I have tried to google any specific drivers for this screen for vista/Win7 that got a newer date than my drivers. Without any luck.

I try to google other people who have same problem as me, however, I only get to 1000x different reviews of this monitor, fake driver download/repair sites and such things.

I got very mixed up feelings about this. I do not know if I shall try to deliver back the screen, or that 1920x1080p isn't for computers? Or maybe HDMI cant run 1920x1080p? Is it a malefactor fault? Shall i just stick to the screen and appreciate that it works good in 1600x1200, I mean it isn't that much lower. But I keep dreaming that the screen is originally made for 1080p and that the screen quality wil... Read more

When I close the lid of my computer, it makes the alert noise as if you unplugged a device. When I open the lid, it makes the alert noise as if you plugged in a new device. The screen takes a few seconds to turn on, and all of my windows which were open will be resized, and all of my desktop icons are rearranged.Happens every time I open or close the lid, and it's been about a week now.About two months ago, I actually sent this in to Lenovo for some repair from a drop, and they replaced just some plastic parts of the shell and the keyboard. It worked fine when I got it back, and once the screen is on, it continues to work fine. I'm mentioning this because I don't think the screen is becoming physically unplugged, it looks like it is in top shape after the repairs. Any thoughts?-Matt

I recently bought my third Thinkpad, a T450 off ebay to replace my X230 for studying. It's an i7 model with 8GB RAM and a 256gb SSD. It still has nearly 2 years remaining on the extended warranty. When it arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to find it had a 1080p IPS screen already fitted (was planning to upgrade it) - did Lenovo ever ship the T450 with this? It's a late model one, did they introduce it later on in the machine's life cycle? There aren't any visible signs of the screen having been replaced and the seller never mentioned anything (I thought it was coming with the TN HD panel) and the brightness controls in Windows work as they should do on a clean Windows install.

Hello, The screen of my T450 flickers and becomes purple when it is flexed. The problem goes away when you apply pressure on the bezel under the display so the problem must be caused by a loose connection. I upgraded the original TN display of the T450 to an IPS screen so I presume that my warranty is void. It is impossible to say.  The screen could be bad.  The motherboard could have a problem - most likely a fuse.  The Hall sensor that switches when the lid hasclosed could have failed.  sorry.

I'm not sure if this is the right category, if not any suggestions welcome.

I am having issues with using my TV as my computer screen. I received an HD TV for Christmas, but I have never been able to get that high definition look its supposed to have. When I run even 1080p bluray quality videos, the quality is just not there. I can sort of make it look better through the TV's menu, but the quality is severely compromised as I have to bring Sharpness WAY down to compensate.
To be clear, the image looks bad everywhere on the pc, not just when watching a video.

PC is:

Connection is through HDMI ports

I have searched everywhere for this answer, any help would be appreciated.
Also, I have already tried changing the device name to PC in my TV menu, that
is not the solution.

how long have you had the TV ?

a blueray is the best test , as far as i know, because it should run at 1080p

The PC part will depend on native resolution of TV and the PC graphics display adapter settings

if bluray looks poor - then you may need to discuss with the shop you purchased the TV from

I would use DVI if my laptop had one but unfortunatly not, The only outputs are VGA and HDMI, I whant 2 monitors so i use VGA on my 1600x900 Monitor becouse its the only input on the monitor, And hdmi on my New monitor, But i can only use 1600x900 resulotion there too to fill the screen wich is very annoying becouse the quality sucks, VGA works with 1080P but the performance compared to HDMI and the qualit compared to HDMI is terrible, So what do i do? get an HDMI to VGA adapter for my secondare monitor and use VGA on the new monitor even if the quality sucks or just live with it untill i can upgrade my Desktop pc so i accually have DVI out?

Reason why i bought a 21.5" monitor when i could by a much better one? Becouse the Benq was a used one that i got for really cheap so yeah, Its very nice for its very cheap prize

Hi,  My first post here and I'm wondering if anyone has upgraded their Lenovo from a 720p TN screen to a 1080p IPS screen? I own a Lenovo T460 20FMS1YT00 - with a 14inch 720p TN screen. I'm having trouble finding a screen upgrade. I've also read that you need a cable upgrade too when you go to 1080p from 720p? Any help would be appreciated on what screen and cable I need exactly. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum Allanwill,

Highly recommend uninstalling the two software below:

Code:
Start Menu\Programs\Advanced SystemCare 7 Public:Start Menu\Programs\Advanced SystemCare 7 Public
Start Menu\Programs\IObit Uninstaller Public:Start Menu\Programs\IObit Uninstaller Public
This software can be cause of BSOD's. The windows 7 operating system does not require these registry cleaning software. They often tune-down rather than tune-up and can wreck the OS beyond repair. Microsoft have improved Windows 7 significantly and it is much better at organising and optimising itself than its predecessors. Check this, this and this thread for evidence.

If you feel the need to use a registry cleaning or optimisation software, most of us recommend the use of CCleaner but make sure you back up the registry before making letting ccleaner delete anything.

Code:
Start Menu\Programs\DAEMON Tools Lite Public:Start Menu\Programs\DAEMON Tools Lite Public
Please uninstall Daemon Tools. It uses a driver called sptd.sys which is known to cause BSODs in Windows 7.

Uninstall the software using Add/Remove Programs. Reboot the system. Once the program is uninstalled, run sptd.sys uninstaller to remove the driver from your system.

As an alternative, many people recommend the use of Total Mounter or Magic ISO

Run the System File Checker that scans the of all protected Windows 7 system files and replaces incorrect corrupted, changed/modified, or damaged versions with t... Read more

I just changed my ThinkPad T450 laptop screen to a full-HD IPS display. The new panel (display) shows up in the Device Manager with Hardware ID MONITOR\LGD03FF. While the screen works, I can no longer adjust the brightness in Windows 10 - it's always on full brightness and the brightness key combinations no longer work (nor do any of the Windows 10 software brightness controls). The brightness adjustment keys work perfectly in Linux (Ubuntu 16.04), and they work if I go in to the BIOS. The monitor is showing up in the Device Manager as "Generic PnP Monitor". Any idea how to get brightness working in Windows 10 with the LGD03FF panel?

A:Brightness not adjustable on ThinkPad T450 after changing screen (to LGD03FF)

unless you have a panel with an fru number corresponding to t450, the eeid (configuration chip on the panel) won't have the correct info to allow brightness control.

Hi people,I have some issue with my screen on lenovo thinkpad t450. I bought it in Sweden recently (few months ago) and everything was fine, and then this morning this black spot of pixels showed up. It was not punched or something like that, it was on my desk the whole time.I tried to run JScreenFix.com on this place and also to massage it with a soft cloth but it seems that it just gets worse. The problem I have is that I am now in Serbia, and I have this international warranty, but only in one city in Serbia which is on the other part of the country. Also, I saw that there are service providers in my city, but I am not sure if they can fix me this as regular service with warranty.Do you maybe know how this functiones? Or have some tips how to solve this?

A:upgrading the screen resolution from 720p to 1080p Inspiron 13 (7347)

Yes, but you cannot simply replace the LCD - you must replace the entire display assembly.

Hi,

I have a Sony laptop model number Vaio VGN-AR51J

I bought it because it had a HDMI out port with a sticker on the laptop advertising 1080 Full HD. However the screen resolution is 1440x900 so I thought it must only be full HD when connected to a Full HD telly. Well I bought a Panasonic 42" plasma Full HD TV and it does not fill the screen properly no matter what I try, am I doing something wrong or have I been stitched up?

A:1080p or not 1080p?

It might indeed be the resoution setting. Have you adjusted the resolution and used the advanced video properties to mess with the onscreen image?
