Emails blocked from secure sites

Q: Emails blocked from secure sites

OS Version: Microsoft Windows 10 Home, 64 bit, Build 18362, Installed 20190907151650.000000+780
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4590S CPU @ 3.00GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 60 Stepping 3, CPU Count: 4

For the past 8 weeks, at least 4 secure sites from which I send emails are not receiving them.
These include the bank, library (where I can request or secure books for later) my ISP (!) and a government agency. Two of these have my Hotmail address registered, two have Gmail.

I investigated this myself (a little), trying to send an email from MsEdge, that didn't work either so I'm assuming it's not the browser at fault.

The library IT dept sent the message below which, as suggested, I forwarded to my ISP. I then spent a fruitless hour with a very patients techie who had no idea how to solve the problem. He suggested I try the Hotmail Fix-IT site - I already had, going through all the stages to no avail. He suggested I ask Microsoft what the problem is - I'd guess that's about as probable as getting Gates to come and fix the problem himself. I did look at a couple of MS forums but there's nothing to help there.

It's vital that I get through to my bank and the government agencies - so I am wondering if there's anything you can suggest. Please feel free to ask me any questions.

The 3 sites - Bank, ISP and government agency have the normal 'fill-in' contact forms. However the library is slightly different. I log into my personal site with PIN and can then send details of a book I may want to borrow, to myself, using a pop-up window which comes filled in with the book title and I just add my email address. It doesn't get through to Hotmail, it does get through to Gmail.

Preferred Solution: Emails blocked from secure sites

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have had the computer for 5 years only now has the following problems developed

1) I can not access secure web sites including the Windows update site. I have tried with both FireFox and IE 8. In both cases the message is wating for securesite.com and the loading fails due to timing out.

I have no problem accessing unsecured sites

2) At the same time my email server Thunderbird can only receive email but can not send. When attempting to send emails the message is connection to STMP server timed out.

I have tried the recommended fixes with no success

a) cleared SSL
b) checked clock
c) re-registered dll's
d) reset IE to defaults
e) changed ports
f) turned off firewall
g) changed wireless to Proset from Windows and back
h) did straight wired connection to router for internet
i) did a system restore to a time I was still getting and sending emails

I tried to preview post and it failed. Tried to post it failed had to borrow a computer to submit.

Win XP Service Pack 2.

First symptom was that the desktop icon to go to IE resulted in "Cannot find server"

Started to open IE from the program list , until that no longer worked ( 2 days)
IE is getting online, I can ping sites and my anti virus updates etc but IE will not open any web sites - except secure ones

Hopefully the solution is in the log file to follow. Thanks !

Please help me. I am having several problems that I've never had before with my computer and I am now convinced that it is hi-jacked and infected with malware.

The only protection I have used since I got the computer is avast antivirus protection and piriform ccleaner. I have had no malware, spyware or viruses on this computer in the past. I've had it for almost a year.

However my computer has since yesterday (i think) become infected. It has not slowed down much, but whenever I use Google, it redirects me to random sites. Many websites I visit regularly that have never had pop-up ads before now have pop-up ads.

When I went to check my e-mail in Hotmail, I received this message constantly:

"Please refresh your browser window. When you access your Windows Live Hotmail account from more than one computer, we ask you to sign in again to help keep your account private and secure."
At this point I decided to install Spybot, however the website was blocked. I went to download.com and downloaded it and attempted to install but I was unable to, receiving this message:

"Error sending request. The server name or address could not be resolved."

I just installed ad-aware and did a full scan and it found one malware agent and supposedly fixed it, but after rebooting all of these issues are still occuring.

So this brings me to here and now. I just downloaded Trend Micro HijackThis and here is my log:

Any google affiliated site comes up with a "404 not found, nginx" page. I can do a search on google.com, but when I click on a link from the search it first redirects to dietpuma.com or any ****puma.com site before taking me to the site I want. This problem will spontaneously go away once in a while but always comes back. I've tried solutions I found online about 'hosts' files but didn't work. Any help is much appreciated! I tried to adhere strictly to the instructions found on the 'preparation guide'. Here is the DDS log, I ran GMER and it said 'no modifications found' or something to that effect. I saved the gmer log, but it is blank. Please advise if I did this correctly. Thanks again!

A:secure sites not secure in chrome.

Hi Adams369 If you are using Google Chrome 42, this is normal. Starting in version 42, Google Chrome starts tagging as "insecure" websites that uses SHA-1 algorithm encryption for their certificates, in order to move them to a more secure one since SHA-1 is old and deprecated (less secure). If you want, I created a thread on that yesterday where I show how to get these certificates information on a website, so you can verify yourself. Also, would you mind posting which websites are having this insecure connection so I can test them for my troubleshooting?Google Chrome 42 vs SSL CertificatesThank you

dont worry, I know the difference but I have an unconventional question. i am currently having a problem with my firewalls and i know that i can bypass the firewalls on secure sites. problem is, not all sites are secure. i dont want to look at porn or anything, i just want to get onto facebook, etc. so, is it possible to access an unsecured site securely? or am i just plain crazy?

A:Unsecure sites/secure sites

I know what you mean about facebook- I grimace every time I have to log onto it and look at the address bar to see that it's not even using SSL... pretty pathetic.

The only way I've found to establish a connection that's tamper-resistant to packet sniffing and other garbage is to set up a VPN server on a trusted computer at home, and just connect to that whenever you're away.

The problem you'll probably face with this, though, is that you need to install a VPN client on the machine you plan on using, so if this computer is a university, school, or work computer, it might be too limited to do this.

Hi all

I'm experiencing a problem where certain sites are being blocked by something on my PC. This happens to the same sites in both IE6 and Firefox 2. I've tried disabling all windows firewall and PC-cillin software. I also ran through some suggestions which you can see in the thread in Web& Email (link below). A guy there suggested I try this forum as it appears to be a security issue.

For an example of the problem, I can get access to http://hub.ebay.co.uk/buy just fine. But I cannot access www.ebay.co.uk. Similarly I can't access sites like online banking, expedia, etc.

There's a hijackthis log below if that helps. I've also run Ewido across the system to wipe out spyware of which there were a few bits.

Unlikely. You can write to Hotmail, and try to convince them that you are really the owner of the account. Not easy. When you registered for hotmail, did you did give an alternate e-mail address to which password can be sent?

I have a user on my network that on occasion gets his emails blocked from certain recipients that he has sent numerous emails to in the past that have been received. The messages indicate that it is their server blocking the message, but it does not make sense that one message would go through earlier in the week, and another wouldn't later. Is there anything that I can do on my end to prevent this from happening in the future, besides having to send additional email asking his address to be whitelisted?

A:Blocked emails

The server could be blocking it based on the content of the email - some mail servers are very picky about attachments, etc. I don't think there's much you can do on your end other then sending them an email asking what's going on and how you can prevent it.

The specific error message in the bounce email would also help to determine why the server is rejecting it.

I'm finding increasingly that emails I send get flagged as suspicious by the recipient's email provider and are either delivered to their spam folder or, occasionally, aren't delivered at all (even though they have me in their contacts list). I think this is due to the strange way that I set up my email in the first place, and this is what I now want to try to resolve. Some years ago (and so my memory of what I actually did isn't good), I:

- Purchased my own .co.uk domain name from GoDaddy, which I pay to renew every year.
- Signed up to a free web hosting site: http://cpanel.minigremlin.com. (This site no longer seems to exist.)
- Used the free web hosting site to create a single HTML holding page for my website. (Now, I get a 403 forbidden error when I try to visit my site.)
- Used the free web hosting site to create an email address.
- Used my pre-existing hotmail account to somehow add the new email address and access it through hotmail (I don't 100% remember how I did this).

Now, I can send and receive emails either by logging in to hotmail (outlook) webmail or by connecting to it through Mac/iOS Mail. This has always worked fine, but as I say, my issue is that more and more I'm finding that people aren't receiving my emails to their inbox. I also feel quite uncomfortable that I don't really understand how my email works!

I'd greatly appreciate any assistance with fixing this and getting my email to a place where I can have... Read more

Hi all. I just wanted to let you know you techs are wonderful!!!

Here's my latest problem. I have Win ME networked with Win 98 using a HUB (yes, I know I need to get a router). I switched to cable internet a couple of months ago. Things were going "ok" until Sat. If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here. Let it finish the scan and then hit Next and Exit.

Download and install Spybot S&D. Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the Fix Selected Problems button. Exit Spybot. If you keep getting the DSO Exploit entries, even after you updated Windows and fixed them, then download the Spybot DSO Exploit Fix and install it over the current Spybot installation.

Please download Ad-aware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Also go here to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. The connection is via a wireless connection to a broadband router. Norton Internet Security was installed but had a problem and was removed, and now it will not install again but throws up an error message half way through installing..
I have checked all the settings in IE6 and they all seem to be Ok, I have a suspicion that there may be a virus problem because of the problems with NIS. I almost seems like the secure sites are being blocked but I have checked for evidence of NIS or the firewall in windows but nothing showing.

Hello all,

I have somewhat of a problem when trying to access any secure type link when I get on some web sites. One such site is my online banking page, I am able to log on and check my account, navigate to most of the link pages with the exception of my entire "E Bill/Payee" relative to scheduling a payment or adding a payee to the account.

I am using Window XP Home E. SP 1 with IE 6.0 on a fast DSL connection. I have tried everything I can think of including lowering my various security settings to the bare minimum with always the same results.

"The page cannot be displayed etc"and the tag line is "Cannot find server or DNS Error Internet Explorer". I believe this is referred to as error #404 ( I however choose to call it something unprintable)

I was hand carried for 2 hrs. through multiple fix's by the Bank site tech. rep. and the bottom line was to install a patch (Q818529) from MS and to allow 1st. and 3rd. party cookies etc. all to no avail.

I checked my encryption to verify 128 bit and it is. I re-registered 9 .dll files I use Window Washer to keep temp IE cookies, clear history files clean. I also renamed my \system32 host file and deleted it.

I also use Ad Aware, SpyBot and my registered Norton works, which according to them the system is clean with no virus or parasites. In addition I use Zone Alarm for a firewall. All of these security programs are current.

Several weeks ago, I called the Dell help line because my system was so slow. They had me make a few changes in safe mode (I cannot remember what they were) and things seemed to be moving along much faster. Shorty after, I found that I could not log on to any secure site, like my work email, hotmail, etc. I get the error message" this page cannot be displayed" When I click on detect internet settings, nothing happens. Now Dell wants to charge me for help, siting it as a software issue with Internet Explorer. My ISP tech-line person thinks a file may have been deleted or corrupted. Anyone have any answers?
many thanks, I'm grateful for any help and suggestions.

A:can't log on to secure sites

Start by giving us some system information by posting a HijackThis Scanlog. Get HijackThis from the site below, unzip it to a permanent folder of its own, then select Scan and save the Scanlog. Copy/paste the Scanlog here:

Also go through this MS article on troubleshooting Secure sites. Its primarily for later Windows versions which I assume you have.

If you use System Restore to correct this problem, give us another Scanlog of the system following the Restore since you will likely restore old problems as well.

I have an IBM Thinkpad with XP, and the past 2 days I have been unable to get into any site that requires log-on ID. (I'm on line now with a 2nd, older computer.) For instance, with Bank of America the home page comes up, but the page is different than normal, including missing a button to "log in". Another bank website I use comes up with the name at the top, but the rest of the page is completely blank. Every site has variations, and none of them allow me to go into the "secured" part of the website. i have reloaded Internet Explorer. I also went to "restore", and that window is completely blank...I'm using Avast. - I uninstalled it, but that wasn't the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Whenever I try to access secure pages with IE6, I get the dreaded DNS sever/ cannot find page error. I have tried everything short of taking off IE and reinstalling. Actually I was having this problem before I upgraded to IE6. I circumvented it by using Netscape. I have reset everything I know to reset to default settings. I have even gone through and matched settings with another computer that is able to access secure sites. I'm baffled!!

Ok I read the post from the day before with the same problem I have looked at the about IE from the help button and it says I have a cipher strength of 0-bit. I have downloaded the latest security patch from MS and that still didn't fix anything. I have also looked for the HOST file on my computer and don't have one. Anymore suggestions would be appreciated.

Problem: unable to access at least one https site. Other https sites could be accessed. The desired https site was never accessible from this computer, but was accessible from other computers, at other physical locations.

Only 1 computer at this particular location; high speed; ethernet, directly to the cable modem. No router or other networking device.

I solved the problem by adding the https site to the list of secure sites.

Why did IE fail to access the desired https site, but succeed at other https sites I tried?

Before adding the site to the secure list, I cleared the cache & rebooted.

Same problem when in safe mode with networking.

I hate "why" questions.

amapp.exe is a process loaded by Symantec Internet Security suite and is essential for the smooth running of the firewall and anti-virus software. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.

Have you tried adding the secured sites to your trusted zones in IE properties?

Also, would be helpful knowing what AOL have advised you to try so far such as clearing cookies, temp files, resetting web settings, restoring defaults in advanced, checking SSL options in advanced options, trying a different proxy etc etc.

Also, what error messages do you receive in IE when you try to load a secure page?

And finally, may be worth a go trying with Firefox browser...it's free, very secure and marginally faster than IE. Sometimes if things work ok with one browser and not another, you can rule out problems with the ISP or server etc :-)

I recently had a problem with error messages coming up every time I turned on my computer. I was instructed to follow a few steps which did correct that problem. However, now I can't log on to secure web sites!! Every time I try I get the following message:

Internet Explorer was unable to link to the Web page you requested. The page might be temporarily unavailable.

I also am unable to connect to MSN messenger. Can anyone help me?

Welcome to TSG!!

Make a folder on your hard drive, like My Documents\HJT
Download Hijackthis.
Unzip the file to the folder on your hard drive.

Double click on Hijackthis.exe then click on the "Scan" button, then click on "Save Log".

Copy and paste it back here and someone will be happy to review it.

Don't make any changes until instructed to do so.

Users with limited accts in my home can't reach secure website pages such as the login page for gmail. Anything that requites a login doesn't even display. They get This Page Cannot Be Displayed. The two of us with admin accts CAN reach secure sites with no problem.

I've been working on this for over a month and can't figure it out. I've read a lot of tips, suggested fixes but nothing ever works.
I thought maybe posting a HJT log from one of the limited acct users might he helpful. If not, I can also post one from my admin acct.

Can not access secure sites like MSN portfolio. Using a older desktop running windows 98I use to be able to access without a problem. After entering user name (emal adress) and password I'm bounced to "brouser not found" page. This also happens when I attempt to access othe secure sites. I recently installed a new modem and my Norton Internet Security has expired, if this has anything to do with the problem. Thanks for any help. Chuck

This isn't expert help, but what browser do you use? Also, what are your security settings for your browser? Do you have any firewall that is automatically blocking secure connections?

Are you also on a network which has some restrictions? <-- I thought of because at my highschool, students are prohibited from certain websites and etc.

Plz give more info on ur security settings....

I have Windows XP IE6 and my computer won't allow me on secure websites. It will allow me to browse the internet but it wont let me on anything that requires me to sign in, such as my emails, bank accounts, or social networks like Facebook. I have tried everything, I ran Malawarebytes but when I tried to delete it encountered a problem. I found a forum that was talking about a similar situation and someone suggested MouseMatrix which it allowed me to get on those sites through that? It's like something is blocking me from getting on theses sites. I have tried everything, deleting history, lowering the security settings, SSL, I just don't understand what could be wrong. I also downloaded Firefox but it says I don't have a connection to the internet?I have about gave up and was going to take it to get it repaired? But, I feel like it may be something simple...I hope so anyways.Edit: Moved topic from XP to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

Greetings igem,
Your Security Settings may be set too high.Try this....Open Internet Explorer then:
Click>Tools>Internet Options>Security Tab>Default
This will return your security settings to default levels then try those pages you can't get into. You may also have to change the level of Security in your Norton/Symantec. If this does not help....post back here and we'll try again.
Best regards,

Is there any reason why IE 7 will only display secure https sites suddenly? I thought it was all web sites until I just happened to try a secure one today.

Its part of general problem in which a piece of software which connects to the internet automatically doesn't connect to get the data anymore. Mozilla Firefox browses just fine, Outlook gets my e-mail.

Yesterday I was having problems getting my DSL connection to work so I reset the router/modem several times and also tried connecting via Bluetooth to my cell phone. I don't know why this would have changed anything.

Any ideas?

A:Secure sites only?

open a command prompt and type netsh winsock reset and hit return see if it helps

and make sure your security isnt set too high in internet options/security set it to medium high.

I am having ther same problems as posted in July2004 by AngelKat512, however i am still not able to solve my problem.

I cannot access secure sites like hotmail, yahoomail, etc and i have tried everything i can think of (and what was reccommended in this site). I've uninstalled my firewall, and reinstalled explorer (its version 6.0), (without the firewall being present) and am still having the same problem (so i think i can assume its not the firewall). I've installed netscape 7.1 and the same thing is happening. I've tried numerous thing posted from every other website but no success. I've tried everything listed in Microsoft's ' How to guide' but nothing.

One weird thing tho, i am able to access my secure banking service (why i can access this , but not hotmail, yahoomail, register into ebay etc, i dont know)

Please, does anyone have any ideas, as this has just started happening?
