Iomega ZIP drive

Q: Iomega ZIP drive

I have just fitted a new "C" drive and loaded Win XP (used to use Win 98). Now when I open a ZIP disk in an external Iomega ZIP drive a Window opens that displays the contents of the disk.
How do I stop this window from opening?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Using Windows 98 on a PC or laptop my Zip drive will bring up a brochure that needs a bit of work but will not save it ANYwhere. I get a variety of messages including "Disk is not formatted." "Disk is full or damaged."
"Save to another disk." Is the drive dead? Is there a way out with the brochure intact?

Anny: Try copying the file from the zip to your hard drive using Windows Explorer. Then try working on it from your hard drive. If you successfully get it copied to your hard drive, I would run scandisk on your zip drive and see if you can't recover that file. If not, format the zip drive, making sure there are no bad sectors (if so, trash the zipdisk), and copy the file back onto it if the zip is still good.

I just installed an Iomega RW external drive with the Hot Burn software supplied. Once I burn data or pictures on a new RW CD I cannot add additional data. The disc shows full even though it is a 700MB disc when there is only a fraction of that amount stored, also I cannot reformat the disc without distroying the disc. My system is xp2000. I have tried everything I can think of, but once I write to the disc I can't add to it or erase what is on it. I am using Memorex CD-RW 4X muti speed disc.

Hi there:

I have an Iomega 100 Zip Drive. Yeah, I know it's a few years old! The reason I still use it is because I have several discs and it's been working- up until now.

Today, I put in a disc and what normally happens is a little green light in the front comes on and begins flashing then the light goes out. That same green lit button is what I can use to eject the disc. Now, what's happening is the light stays on solid green. I cannot eject the disc. And my computer is not even detecting the hardware by showing me the icon when I click on "My Computer".

Is it something to do with my computer? Or the Zip Drive itself? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have to reinstall the zip 100 driver everytime I boot up. I have downloaded the software for win 98SE from the iomega site, and have tried the driver update from Windows update. The installs are always successfull, and can use the zip drive with no problem. However, the next time I reboot my computer, I am once again told that my zip drive is not installed. So I have to reinstall the drivers, etc., etc., etc., ... As my rescue disk is on a zip disk, I'd be s--- out of luck.

A:iomega parallel 100 zip drive

This is a long shot but it's the only one I can think of.
Since your zip is parallel did you have a peripheral that was hooked up and setup prior to the zip drive, such as a printer or a scanner?
If you did, was an uninstall done on that item before you loaded the drivers for the zip. You may have the old item trying to grab the parallel port after the zip drive is setup in the boot process. Another possibility is a bios setting defining uni-directional or bi-directional, if you have that option you may try changing them around. Switching them sometimes can correct the problem.
Don't feel alone in this boat, I have a parallel Cliks-It zip drive and every once and awhile it drops its drivers for no reason.
Just a thought.

I have been online with iOmega support earlier, but they could not resolve my problem. I bought a computer with no parallel port so I had to purchase a NetMos PCI ECP Parallel port. I have tried the options not use interrupt, not use if possible and interrupt assigned to port. Enabled legacy plug and play. Tried assigning to LPT1-3. IRQ is 17. I/O A000-A007 and A400-A407. Device is working properly and I tried hooking up an old parallel printer with no problem at all. When I check the hardware list I get the exclamation point on Disk Drives > IMG VP0. It says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". There is no drive letter assigned to the Zip 100 at all, and I never got it to do that. iOmega support said that Windows XP (Home) should not need drivers installed for this Zip drive, but I tried without, then downloading the drivers, and finally the whole iOmegaWare package. Still can't get it to go. Anyone please help me! I don;t know where to go to change the IRQ and the ECP/EPP modes on the NetMos 9805 PCI card. That is the only thing I haven't tried. In the BIOS I can toggle an onboard parallel port on and off and set the IRQ and so on. But I could not find any pins to just hook up the cable interface to it.. This onboard device was set to off anyways. But I tried switching it on too, but nothing happened to get the Zip drive to work.

Is it the PCI card or the Zip drive that is the problem?

Looking for a replacement for my Iomega USB 750MB Zip Drive. Three requirements below. Any suggestions?

* Must be quieter than noisy zip drive I have now. It can be keychain, other type of backup drive, etc.
* Can automatically backup individual files as changes are made. In other words, looking for a backup drive that has something equivalent to the Iomega Sync software. I like this feature much, as don't have to remember to schedule backups regularly and backup of changes are automatically done near real time for a particular directory which in my sit. is my email.
* Must work with a Windows 98SE PC. Planning to upgrade in the not too distant future, but need the backup device to work with the system I have now until I do.

PS Forgive if question asked before, but tried search of forum and it said zip (one of my search terms) was too common of a term to search on.

I have a question about my Iomega 320GB external HDD. I'm happy with it but I use it on multiple computers (mainly xp withone win7) between home and work with the odd trip at the in-laws. One thing that always seems to bother me is that although I can write to the drive from all the computers they become read only or write protected to that same computer/laptop. As a result I can't seem to remove something I did on another PC, not handy for my uni work as I've multiple folders of the similar files that are tied to the PC they were created on.

Is there a way I can remove this protection and have the drive work with full write access regardless of what PC it was used on (I'm sure some saves were from an old work PC that I can't don't have access to anymore).

Thanks in advance

Can someone confirm the transfer mode of an Internal Iomega ZIP 100 IDE Drive for a PC as PIO Mode 0? I always figured it was UDMA/33. Could my Award BIOS be getting things wrong?

Currently Windows 2000 shows the Transfer Mode as PIO Mode Only while my DVDROM (also on the same channel) is at Ultra DMA Mode. The DVDROM is giving me problems when it runs a UDMA mode (it insists on being set to PIO Mode like the ZIP otherwise most data cant be read from CDROMs).

I run the Data processing center for a local company. We get all sorts of information via ZIP disk, and latly have been getting all sorts of errors regarding these disks. Most common is the error message: "Disk is not formatted, do you wish to format now?"

Now, there are several things that could be the problem. I have taken into consideration it may be a hardware issue. The baffling fact is that some disks work fine, other don't. I have also considered that the OS platform that the customer is formatting the disk in may be formatting in NTFS while we proceed to run in a Win98 (fat32) enviroment. Win98 trying to read an NTFS file structure may cause this type or error, but the fact is I am 90% sure that most of our customers run Win98 as well. Chances are slim that they run anything newer or more robust because of their company size.

I would like any input that you can offer that may help clear this issue up for us. Some questions that I have are: Are there different types of ZIP disks, and if so, would my older IOMEGA ZIP drive not be able to read some of them? Are there any phisical differences in the disks I should note?

Please inform me to any of the issues that may help clear this problem up for me.

Thank you,

I used to have access to this drive but my new laptop cannot see it at all. I have an Iomega Home Media drive model HMND2. I have reset my router, power cycled the network drive, used the reset button on the network drive, tried plugging in the drive to my laptop directly, reloaded the Iomega driver from their website but nothing seems to work to get the network drive working on my new laptop. I do not have the old one. My old laptop was running Windows 7 and was still an Alienware laptop. This is a general and don't know if it applies to all of the products by Iomega.

I spent some time reading forums regarding usb drivers for Iomega zip storage. There are quite a few sites out there saying the drivers exist but when I tried to download them, they were only third party applications that ask for registration and just look at your hard drive to see missing drivers then ask for a charge to find them. I tried to track down the Iomega publisher and after many 'see these guys', I found that comenterprises.com sells and supports these products now. Just spoke with one of their technical support people and drivers for zip 100 do not exist and are not available even though this company and others still sell these products BE WARNED. I was told to call back tomorrow to speak with a software specialist to find out if any of these products are still supported. I was told that if you are using windows XP (no one supports this version anymore), the drivers will work but not for windows 8. I am going to follow up on this and see if there is any solution.

Stay tuned

Do yourself a favor. Don't waste time searching for a storage device that holds 100MB of info when you can get a cheap 8GB, yes that's the same storage as 80 zip floppies, USB stick. One of our stores had 8GB PNY sticks for $3.99.
The zip drive is 20 year old technology and next to obsolete, like floppy disks.

I'm considering the Iomega Predator CD-RW drive as an accessory to my laptop, which has a DVD-ROM. Anyone have any opinions on this drive, such as good or bad, overpriced, problem areas, etc.?

Also, anyone happen to know the weight of this drive? I checked the Iomega site but found nothing. Maybe they'll respond.

A:Opinions on Iomega Predator CD-RW drive

I own one.

It works, I will give it that.

Support for it...zip (ha ha!)

Software it came with was not compatable with XP, (despite label on box). Iomega said it is Roxio's deal, Roxio said it is Iomega's box, and their problem. No one was willing to help, both only wanted to sell me more software. (Roxio wanted me to fork out $100 to make it work!)

I had to buy more software to make it work right. (could not return it as it was opened, tried that)

Don't have a scale here, but it is relatively light. Size is what bugs me. Takes a bit of space, between the unit and the detachable componant on the back that allows the USB and Power cable to be plugged in. (don't understand that design concept). Though I use a laptop, the drive never goes with me, too cumbersome to bother.......

I also ran into a problem or two after install, no biggies, but had to deal with them myself because, as I said, support = none.

I noticed on various other sites the feedback posted by others is similar to mine, so I don't think I am all that unique on this.

Just the other day my External zip drive stopped ejecting the disks. I press the eject button and it makes the ejecting noises and what not butthe disk moves a millimeter or so and thats it. Any ideas?

A:Iomega external ZIP Drive not Ejecting.

Try doing a software eject.

Right click on the drive letter. If not on your desktop, find it under "My Computer"

Click on "Eject Disk"

Also as a final backup most ZIP's have an emergency eject fallback method. On mine it is a pinhole in the back just above the power connector.

Must be fully powered down, removed and you stick a straightened paper clip into that hole and push.

See your instruction manual if such a procedure exists for your drive.

Finally you can gently push the disk in a bit more with your finger from the front loading slot and exercise it. It may be hung up on its ejection path. Jiggle may unseat and clear the path.

Best of luck

A:Iomega Portable USB 2.0 Hard Drive

It's not backup if there's only one copy, regardless.

The first thing to determine is whether it is the enclosure that has gone bad or the disk inside. Disassemble the enclosure, remove the disk and connect it internally to another desktop computer. See if it comes up on it.

You may have to go to the disk manufacturer's web site for proper jumper settings.

Looks like no one, even the (official) iomega forum moderator, wants to jump in on this one.

I have used my zip 250 drive with three versions of windows for at least 15 years. I don't believe iomega even supports this hardware any more, but have had no problems with all my OS's including my present OS (XP) and Dell XPS 400 computer until today.

The usual sequence of operation(s) this zip drive are, is that a 250MB disk is inserted, a whirring sound is heard, and the data recorded is then displayed. I always assumed the whirring sound is the disk motor turning.

However now for the first time ever, no whirring sound when the disk is inserted and locked, silence from the drive, and the disk is ejected in 2-3 seconds. I have 5 250 MB disks which were always fine before, all of which are now ejected as described above. I have gone into the device manager screen and there is no trouble indicated, advice is the device is working normally, and there is no malfunction indication next to that disk drive (which is external and SCSI connected).

There have been no error popups anywhere with regard to this problem. I have not tried to reinstall the drive since it does involve steps which include the SCSI card as well as the hardware and software installation procedures...thought I'd ask help here first before digging into the computer (again).

A month ago, my father asked to take back the Mac he lent me, so he gave me his iOmega external hard drive to copy all of my information onto.

iOmega External Hard Drive
Model: EPHD-ME

I did so, and waited for a month before I realized I was better off moving the information onto my Windows 7 Professional 64bit. I took the USB, plugged it in, and the light on the hard drive turned on. But it didn't appear anywhere on my computer.

Not under Device Management: NotUnderDeviceManage - BlackEyeHawk's Sta.sh

And no, I don't believe the USB Mass Storage Device is the external hard drive, as it remains there after I unplug the device.

I'll provide whatever else information is necessary. I'm not a computer savvy guy, let alone know anything about PCs.

I have had this iomega 500gb external hardrive for about 5 months and it has been working fine, untill this morning. For some reason my computer cant find the hard drive now. There is a blue light indicating that the hard drive has power running to it (it has a seperate power source to the computer) but there is no flikering light wich usually comes on when the computer is reading it. I have made sure all the cables are in properly but the hard drive can't be found in either my computer or device manager. I tried the hard drive on another computer and it worked but it still wont work on my computer.

Looking to replace my old Iomega Zip Drive with a much smaller and quieter, and larger storage capacity Iomega Mini USB Drive. Currently, have Iomega Sync automatic backup software which came with the Zip Drive. Iomega pre-sales support who I contacted says their Iomega Sync software should work with their Mini USB Drive, but they have not tested it. From experience, does anyone really know if this will work?
