W10 usb keeps connecting/disconnecting

Q: W10 usb keeps connecting/disconnecting

Hi,

I tried to boot windows installation from a USB (which i did) it ended with an error which was likely caused by some bios security setting, it said something like it can't write the necessary data on harddrive.

When i removed the USB and put it into my PC, it began to behave very strange. It's not visible in device manager, disk management or anywhere else. At the beginning when i had auto play enabled, it would open a new explorer window and immediately say that i need to insert a USB drive. Then i disabled auto play, explorer stopped popping up, but I still can't see the drive anywhere and icons on the start panel are blinking (as i guess windows attempts to install the device but fails each time).

Any advice please?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Guys,

I am having trouble with my wireless connection. It was working fine till a couple of days back and then started acting up. Let me explain the problem in detail.

System connects to the router. It shows full signal. After 10-15 seconds the wireless gets disconnected. After that the behaviour is quite varied. Sometimes the router itself is not recongnized. Sometimes the router is recognized but the system doesnt connect. If I force it to then it again says cannot connect to a hidden network. After a while maybe 4-5 mins later it recongnizes and tries connecting again sometimes it succeeds sometimes it doesnt.

My System Specifications are given below.

1. Samsung Ultrabook Series S - Model NP530U3C-A01UK
2. Processsor - Intel COre 5-3317U CPU @1.70 Ghz
3. Windows 7 Hope Premium - 64 Bit OS
4. Wireless Network Adaptor - Intel Centrino Advaced N-6235
5. ROuter - Thomson
6. 6GB RAM

A Little bit about my Home network
There are 5 devices connected usually. My Wife's PC which is a Dell Inspiron and runs on Windows 7 Home premium, My Ipad, 2 of our Smart Phones and My PC. Every other device currently works fine except mine. So looks like the problem is with my system rather than the router or network provider.

Remedies I have tried and failed
1. Updated the Network Driver by downloading and installing it from Intel Website
2. From the ROuter side manually changed the channel to see if that has an effect
3. FLushed my DNS, tried to release and ren... Read more

A:Connecting to Wireless Router keeps connecting and disconnecting

I hate to say it, but since you have done everything I would have done, its possible the wireless adapter is broken/not functioning correctly. Is the product still under warranty? Especially since you stated that other devices connect just fine.
So its probably not the router.
The only other thing I can think of to try would be to buy another wireless router and test it with that.
If you have no problems, something is amiss.
You could also set your router back to factory defaults and try again.

I'm not sure why it does this. I'll be connected and all of the sudden it will disconnect me and then automatically sign on again right away.

It's really more an annoyance than anything, but if anyone has any thoughts, I welcome them!

For the past month I've been having this issue involving my computer disconnecting from and connecting to the internet.
I have Windows 7 (x64) and there is only one (that is: mine) PC connected to the router/modem (non-wireless). There is a periodic burst of "Identifying" with the spinning blue wheel then disappear again to try again a few seconds later. It happens once in every 10-15 seconds, constantly.
Btw, I do not have wireless connection in my house. I've already determined it's my computer and not a problem with the router/modem because it happens with both network connection (public and home). The cable isn't loose. Every time another computer is connected to the same connection as mine, that computer has no problems.
I have two network cards (Realtek and Marvell Yukon), but I disabled Realtek (red X is displayed on the icon) in order not to interfere with the other one.
Troubleshooting did not help.
Marvell Yukon driver is from 2012, but there ain't no new updates after that date.
I've tried to reset WINSOCK entries, IPv4 TCP/IP and IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults by typing following commands at the command prompt:
---
netsh winsock reset catalog

netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

But to no avail. I am not sure if my network supports capability of obtaining an IP address automatically. In any case, after reseting to installation defaults I noticed that TCP/IPv4 fields had became blank (IP a... Read more

A:LAN keeps disconnecting and connecting constantly

hello steampunk
i have the same issue as you do.
i tried the following, and it seems more stable now

do these commands from admin command prompt:
go to start ,search and type: cmd, right click on returned cmd.exe and select "run as administrator" at the prompt type:-
net localgroup Administrators /add networkservice
press enter then type:
net localgroup Administrators /add localservice
press enter then type:
exit
press enter and restart your computer

make sure you put a space after Administrators

although it seems more stable, I still can't get Diagnostic Policy Service running to repair my LAN connection.

good luck, this worked for many people

First off I would like to say hey to everyone here, since this is my first post here.

Here is the setup:

Mediacom Internet comes in from a direct drop from the pole to my modem with no splits. The modem is then ran into a Linksys B Wireless Router (sorry im at work and dont know the model number, will get though). From the Router, one cable is ran into a Brand New 16 Port Netgear Switch and then Cat5 is ran to every room in the house and another cable is running out of the router port to computer that has a bridged connection with an XBOX 360.

Here is the Problem:
Every few minutes the internet disconnects and connects right back up. However XBOX Live doesn't disconnect and neither do other games played on other pcs that are ran through the switch (at first i thought i bought a bad switch). I can tell when it disconnects because I can hear AIM disconnecting and reconnecting.

Any ideas guys? I have called Mediacom and they have replaced the modem which is now an RCA modem. I have tried directly connecting a pc to the modem and I get the same problem. Any ideas on what it could be or what I could do? Mediacom thinks that it is on our end, but I have tried hooking multiple components up directly to the modem and the same thing happens. This is really bothering me because I can't download any files or upload to my FTP site. Let me know if you need to know anything else. Or feel free to email me any questions to [email protected]. Thanks!

I'm having a problem...I'm having a problem using this Dell Latitude. It's always having these connection fits where it randomly disconnects & then reconnects to our wireless internet. I'm always seeing the internet icon in the toolbar either on "Acquiring network address" or "Not connected", and when the internet is working, the icon doesn't even show up in the toolbar. This keeps on stopping me from doing stuff like posting in forums (I was lucky to be able to post this ), logging into my email, etc. This problem, however, never existed on the Compaq, so I know it's not the signal. Is there any way to keep it from disconnecting constantly?

A:Internet keeps connecting & disconnecting

Do you have the same type problem with an ethernet connection?

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver. If it is an integrated adapter get the driver from Dell's web site.

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector.

Also please show for when you have a connection and for when it has been lost ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hello all, I'm having an issue in Windows 7 with my LAN connection to my college's internet connection. There is a periodic burst of "Identifying" which then returns my LAN to "Network cable unplugged". (It's unplugged, in a few seconds, it will appear in the Network and Sharing Center as "Identifying" with the spinning blue wheel then disappear again to try again a few seconds later.)

First of all, I ensured that the cable isn't loose. Furthermore: Other students on the same network are not having similar issues. There was a Windows 7 update, but system restore did nothing to resolve the issue. The issue persists in safe mode. There are no more recent drivers for my network connector (Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller) which I can find. Finally, I couldn't find anything to suggest the origin of the problem in Event Viewer.

The problem persists if I attempt to hard-set the Speed/Duplex in the properties. Diagnose simply tells me to plug it in (which it almost definitely is) again and again. Trying to use a manual address configuration does nothing to resolve the problem.

Help would be appreciated.

I am getting crazy amounts of connected/disconnected signals with my computer as if I was going crazy with pulling a cord in and out. I have absolutely NO usb devices plugged in. Every time I go into device manager I see the device is USB Mass Storage device. Occasionally I get a popup from the corner of my screen saying "USB device not recognized". This is driving me crazy. All I need is a way to SHUT IT UP! Getting rid of the unrecognized USB would also help I am using an ASUS netbook (the cheapest one my school could get their hands on) with windows XP and it is absurd. This happened before and it went away for a few month, by the way. Now it's back. Here's what I've tried:

Plugging in a usb into all my ports, I was seeing if there's some sort of debris doing this
Shaking the computer to see if something is loose causing it, and no difference in the patterns when I did.
It said USB mass storage, which is what I see with a flashdrive, so I look at My Computer; sure enough there was something, "Removable drive D:", but it said "Please insert a drive into D:" when I clicked on it.
I've gone into device manager and disabled the device when it was there, disabling the USB root hubs, nothing helped. All it did was cause a different sound to be played when it connected.

I am loosing my mind. It is going on right now. Help!!!

A:Usb ports connecting disconnecting rapidly

Have you solved this? I might not be much help.

First, I would go back into device manager and verify that you don't see any yellow !'s or red x's. Then, I would make sure you have the correct driver for your usb ports.

Now, if you plug a usb into the port, does it actually disconnect and reconnect? Or is it just the sound making that noise, but the flashdrive stays connected?

I have been having a serious problem for the last 2 months. I've had 2 internet people come over and try to fix it and have rung about 100 times for help and NOTHING.

So, to try and make a long story short, back in late December the internet just all of a sudden disconnected. We have 3 computers connected to an ADSL modem. At first, by disconnecting all the plugs for a while then putting them back, it would work, but only for 5 or so minutes. So we got someone over to replace the modem because we thought that might be it (it was pretty old), but it wasn't, it still did the same thing. (the person left before we knew that) So we eventually got someone over again, and he did his stuff and said the modem seems to be working fine, and that it must be our ethernet cords, since they're so long, and to get wireless adapters. Got them, MADE NO DIFFERENCE. (again, left before we knew) After days and hours of trying to figure it out ourselves, we finally realised that if we disconnect this computer (the one im on right now) the other 2 would work FINE. So I now knew it was something to do with this computer. I tried fiddling around with the internet connection options, and managed to get it to work. Right now the other 2 seem to be working fine, but this one still isn't perfect. It is slow, sometimes takes 5 minutes to finally connect to a website, it still is disconnecting a lot. Chats, games (online games of course), downloading files, all stuff like that that ta... Read more

Maybe a hardware issue... you USB may be damaged (if you are on warranty, use it and change the USB)
Have you tried on other OSes and PC's? (beide the one you mention) just to discard USB connectors failure.

First of all, sorry for my bad english.
My pc was working perfectly for about a year now, but these days it started having problems.
In the past few weeks it started disconnecting from the internet with the message: you don't have a valid
ip configuration. (It was working on the other pc connected to the router with lan, and on the notebook connected through wifi)
A reboot of the pc/router did always solve my problem in these situations.
Yesterday, my internet connection started connecting/reconnecting, and I couldn't solve it in any way, not with
a restart, and not with that network repair tool (idk it's name, I have hungarian windows). When it stayed connected for more then 2 seconds I was even able to load google, youtube, other sites,
I tried some solutions, like disabling the energy saver settings, setting it to 10mb half duplex, etc, but nothing worked, my
internet kept connecting/reconnecting.
Today I started my pc and it works perfectly.. Any ideas on how to solve it? I have the newest lan driver.

My mobo is Asrock 960gm-vgs3 fx.

Okay so this is becoming very frustrating and I didn't realize it may be my work computer causing all my issues until I started noticing it happening at multiple locations (homes) I've used it.

Here is what is happening...

I have a work computer that is required to connect via a vpn (uses a Cisco any connect secure mobility client). I connect it to the wifi at a house and and able to work and everything seems great, all other devices working just fine too. But then it seems with over time it gets to the point where all the devices connected to wifi/router starts connecting and disconnecting. At first I thought it was the Internet at the first place I was at, but then I started to notice a trend at multiple locations and realized it couldn't be coincidence.

Basically all the devices do this constant disconnect and connect over and over unless I get off all devices except my work computer (connected to the vpn) then it will work just fine. But as soon as I connect back to the wifi on my phone and try to use it they both start connecting and disconnecting again.

Once I get off my work computer and disconnect from the Vpn and Internet then all other devices work just fine and I can have multiple connected at once just as I always have been able to.

I have no clue how to fix this, or what the deal is. I also don't get why it seems to take a couple days of connecting via my work computer until it starts having this problem. For the first several days al... Read more

OK. we can all go search and find this same topic on another thread. Thing is, there is no working answer as to how to fix it.  I have found steps to fix that don't work.  I don't know what OS they are using, but I don't have an OEM specific device.

So Please, if you don't have an answer, don't respond.
Mine shows USB DISK 3.0 USB Device.  And it is supposedly the latest and greatest.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times.  Windows says I have the latest driver.  Or am I just dumb in believing them.
Some say the next update will have a fix (a year ago).  Well, that obviously was not correct. Yes, I installed all the updates.  Last update was just a few days ago.  It checks daily.
SO, I have two USB 3.0 devices from different manufacturers.  Both will disconnect/reconnect as long as they are plugged in.  Currently this happens about every sixty seconds.  Sometimes longer, sometimes less.  Only took 10 seconds just
now.
The point is, these devices are pretty much rendered useless.  And when it disconnects, it shuts down file explorer.
So, MICROSOFT, how abut giving us a little exe or script to run and fix whatever the heck needs to occur.  Yes, I see people have put out steps.  They don't work.  In fact I cant even follow those steps because they ask you to pull up
some tab that doesn't exist and get information.

My laptop keeps resetting the connection. It first connects to the desktop PC, finds the shared connection to internet and after a minute or so disconnects (or maybe changes to limited connection), again connects and so on. What could be the problem?

Hello,

I'm sure this isn't a unique problem by any means, but this is the first time this has happened to me, and a quick google search didn't turn up too much. Today, out of the blue, I started having trouble connecting to my wireless network. It seems to be stuck in an endless loop of attempting to connect to the network. It will reach the "identifying" stage of attempting to connect, stay there for 5-10 secs, then disconnect. This process then repeats ad nauseum. There were no major system or software updates of note, and I even did a system restore (after other attempts to fix the problem) to a point a week prior when I did not have this issue. Currently, I am able to connect to the internet fine via a wired connection, and other devices are able to connect fine to the wireless network (ipad, iphone, roommates computer, etc).

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. My laptop is an HP Pavilion dv6 series. I went into the device manager to look at my network adapters, and I have 4 listed: Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000, Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter (1 and 2), and Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. I have made sure all drivers for each network adapter are up to date, and I have tried disabling each adapter in turn, and the problem persists.

Running the windows network diagnostic tool turns up nothing useful. I do have another troubleshooter program entitled "Intel PROSet/Wireless Tools" ( I assume it came with the wireless card). ... Read more

A:Keep connecting/disconnecting from wireless network

Well you have effectively isolated the problem. The router is fine, since you could connect via Ethernet, and the wireless access point on the router is fine, since other devices are connecting wirelessly. This isolates the problem to your machine. Since I seriously doubt there is a hardware failure with your WiFi card, that leaves something in the software. Since you can connect in some fashion (via Ethernet), Windows is not to blame. The isolates further.. Id say the problem sits between Windows and the physical card, i.e., the driver, the adapter settings/properties, etc.

Not that I think it's relevant, but I would disable the Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapters - I doubt you are using them (the Realtek GBE is your Ethernet). Also, I know you said your drivers are up to date, but are they Microsoft drivers, or Intel drivers? Make sure you have the manufacturers latest driver, not Microsoft's. Or maybe this is the case: I believe Windows Update gives updates to drivers the same way it gives all other updates, so perhaps it is that you have updated your wireless driver recently without knowing it? If so, try rolling back the driver, if possible. I have had to roll back my wireless driver on more than one occasion because there was a problem with it, and couldn't update it again until the manufacturer released a fixed version.

Make note of your Ethernet adapter's settings, then compare them to your wireless settings - not only the IPv4 Properties dialog, but also look ove... Read more

A:connecting/disconnecting Firewire = BSOD

What device is the firewire cable connected too? From the looks of it, it sounds like we're dealing with some sort of audio device? I see the latest crashdump (from August 19) shows the program running at the time was AmpliTube 3.exe, and the responsible driver that appears to have committed the fault was TCNear.sys, which is supposed to be for some audio interfacing. It's dated from May 2010, so you may wanna check either the AmpliTube software or some drivers associated with whatever audio devices you have connected to verify that everything is up to date.

If that doesn't seem to work, or you've determined there's no updates, you may need to turn on Driver Verifier. Send us any crashdumps from any crashes you may experience while Driver Verifier is active. Remember to read all instructions in the article completely so you don't miss anything.

Alright, here's the deal. My house has a network of 3 computers: my wife's Vista wireless laptop, my own XP wireless lapto and my daughters' Vista wreless desktop.

We have what seem like multiple issies going on at the same time:

1) from time to time, my internet will just go out. I still have the network, but no internet. (the little network icon on the vista systems just shows the computer icon without the little globe). It does this for hours at a time, randomly, maybe a once or twice every 2 weeks. Restarting, unplugging and replugging the ethernet cord doesn't fix it. When this is happening none of the computers on the network can connect to the internet but they can all communicate with each other (I can access shared files on all 3 computers)

2) I run Cisco's Network Magic on all 3 computers. If you don't know the program, it monitors the network among other things. Every now and then the program will inform me that the connection tot he internet is lost (and this is confirmed by the fact that the interent suddenly freezes when this happens)... the connection is reestablished in a matter of seconds usually (about 10 to 30 seconds). It therefore seems that the modem is or the router are disconnecting and reconnecting randomly. This is been happenig a lot in the past 2 days.

3) The speed of the connection varies greatly. I go for a few days at high speed and then suddenly it will drop for a few hours... usually this is followed by a co... Read more

Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.

The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like:

If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different!
and your IP will be disguised.

Copy/paste that link here.

Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.

Ok it seems a very common issue but i can't find a permanent fix.

So the USB mouse mouse keeps disconnecting and re-connecting, with the bing bong as if i'm pulling it out and putting back in but i'm not or even touching the mouse.

It does is every few seconds and it is typically constant.

So here is what i've tried WITHOUT success.

1. New usb mouse, bought 2 new ones, one wireless, one wired + my old one. all 3 have the same issue and all 3 work fine on my old XP machine. IT IS NOT THE MOUSE!

2. Tried updating the drivers including, mouse, usb hub, generic usb, and chipset. IT IS NONE OF THESE!

3. Turned off power management to turn it off to save power. NO AFFECT!

4. un-installed the usb hub as well as the mouse. STILL NO JOY!

5. Rolled back the driver. NADA, STILL THE SAME!

6. System Restore, STILL DISCONNECTING/RECONNECTING!

7. Tried the usb driver fix from http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/165554-usb-driver-general-fix-problems.html?filter BUT IT IS STILL HAPPENING!

8. Issue affects USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports, I'VE TRIED ALL MY USB PORTS ITS NOT THEM!

9. It does not affect any other USB devices such as printer or scanner etc, IT IS JUST USB MOUSE AFFECTED!

10. Tried Updating the BIOS, NO AFFECT STILL HAVING ISSUES!

11. Tried cleaning contacts, IT IS NOT THEM!

I have an issue where my computer makes the "ba-dum" sound randomly and hangs for a moment, but I haven't connected or disconnected a drive. It seems only to happen when I am moving the mouse. I noticed it for the first time after Norton 360 started telling me I needed to buy more online backup space. I also noticed that the Norton backup drive, which shows up as an "other" folder in my "computer" folder would pop in and out in time with the sound. I called Norton technical support. They were terrible, so I uninstalled Norton. I downloaded a trial of Vipre instead. When I installed Vipre, it said that Norton had not been completely uninstalled. I couldn't find any Norton programs in my program manager, so I installed Vipre anyway. The sound and hangups are happening less frequently, but they still occur. I no longer see a drive popping in and out on my "computer" folder. Can anyone help with this situation?

A:phantom drive repeatedly connecting/disconnecting

fogbat, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Norton never really leaves your computer once installed. If you haven't yet try the Norton Removal Tool,

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall your Norton product | Norton Support

that should get rid of the remnants that are causing it.

When I connect to the internet (via broadband connection) I can get my home page, but then it goes incredibly slow and has the little hour glass thingy up for ages. I've run my virus software etc, but am still having issues (AVG, spybot and adaware)....I'm just wondering if you could please check out my HJT log, as I'm pretty sure I have a lot of rubbish on my PC, am glad to get rid of anything that doesn't 'need' to be there

Thanks for looking

I have noticed that when a program or something using sound is running, if I unplug my speaker device and then either plug it back in, or plug in a new audio playback device, the sound will stop working altogether and within a matter of about two minutes, the entire computer will become unresponsive to the point that I have to manually restart it via pressing the button. This problem did not occur in Windows 7 (previous version I had); so therefore, I know it is not a problem with the CPU.

A:Problem with Audio Devices Connecting/Disconnecting

Hi,

I'm not really understanding what you're doing. Why would you bother touching any playback settings when it is playing well to begin with? (I ask because the answer will likely influence my response.)

Are you talking about physical speakers/headphones or different audio interfaces running on the computer?

Okay so I am trying to setup a VPN for my iphone. ive set it up via the windows built in server. I set my comps IP to static and port-forwarded the vpn port of 1723 to my comp IP. also enabled vpn in my router. and just to be sure I tried disabling windows firewall. no matter what I have done so far whether Im on wifi or cellular my iphone nor my wifes (iphone) work. They both display "starting, connecting, authenticating and disconnecting" one after the other in a matter of 3-5 seconds. So Its like I get a connection but it cant fully authenticate. i have know clue as to why though. I am about 90% certain its not my iphone which is why im posting here and not some iphone forum. it could be my router but Id like to make certain its not windows first because I cant flash my router to dd-wrt as it belongs to my isp so I'd have to call them and swap it out and blah blah blah.... so, any suggestions, thoughts? I've done this before with another model iphone and a different router so either I'm forgetting a few steps or something just isnt the same. oh and im using pptp i think.

edit: also when I run netstat -a it says that windows is listening for vpn connection on "0.0.0.0:1723". Shouldnt it have and IP other than 0.0.0.0? I have 192.168.0.19 on 1723 set for the port-forward.... and my router wont let me set 0.0.0.0 as the IP.

A:VPN starting connecting authenticating and disconnecting same time

1. Are you trying access the server outside your home network i.e from the internet using 3G?
2. Is VPN passthrough enabled on the router it needs to be enabled?
3. Your Public IP address from your ISP is it a dynamic IP address or static?

My wireless connection on my desktop keeps connecting and disconnecting over and over again and if I us a LAN it says little or no connectivity. My laptop sitting right next to my desktop has 0 problems connecting to the same router.

Router is a linksys WRT55 A+G

OS is windows xp home edition service pack 3.

Wireless settings are exactly the same as the laptop

Each computer has a seperate IP assigned

Firmware for router is updated

Firewall is disabled

Problem started overnight and was working fine the night before. After running CCleaner and spybot search and destroy and updating my video card the problem happened.

Ran Fix My Registry

uninstalled video card, replaced it with old video card, same problem with old video card

Something is preventing my computer from staying connected to the internet, not sure if some hardware got fried over night or when running my cleaning programs I clicked something by accident.

I've read pages and pages of forums and most of the people are having problems with the router, but I don't think it's the router since my laptop is working perfect.

I would appreciate any help.

This has only happened 5 times in the 3 or so weeks I've had my new gaming PC. My computer will flash a blue screen with white text on it but it flashes too fast for me to read the text at all. Then it just restarts. Sometimes when it starts up it tells me the system has recovered from a serious error and asks me to send an error report.

Its happened once when connecting to the internet (I use software to connect)
Happened twice or so when disconnecting from the internet.
Twice when clicking the shut down button to shut down the system.

Luckily, it doesn't restart during any programs or anything, only when I'm going to turn off the PC.

I was just wondering if this is nothing to worry about or if its a bad sign and I need to fix it.

Thank you to anyone who makes a helpful reply

My WD External Hard drive keeps connecting and disconnecting every second or so. I already went into power settings and disabled the USB selective suspend settings but that didnt solve the problem. I also went into the device manager and unchecked the option to allow the computer to turn of this device to save power option but no luck there either.

A:WD External Hard drive keeps connecting and disconnecting

Hello kieron22!
I'm sorry for your problem with a WD external!
Which model is it, a My Passport (which one?), a My Book?
You could try using a different USB cable, a new one, then on every port ? USB 3.0 and 2.0, then on another system. Does the same issue occur everywhere? Doyou hear clicking from the drive or any other unusual sounds? Any error messages? How is the drive's performance? Please use the WD Data Lifeguard software (Support Answers) and check the drive's SMART values, post the results here. Please, be careful not to post the drive's serial number, too!

Help! I installed my Linksys wireless print server and sometimes it connects sometimes after I first boot up then disconnects. I can hit the "info" on the dropdown on the icon and sometimes it will connect for a short time again but then it will disconnect. I get an error to set my PC IP to the same as the print server. I emailed Linksys but after a few back and forth emails I am still at a loss. They don't seem to explain things well to a novice. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi everybody,I do have a problem with my new portabe USB3.0 interface drive (model number ODP95-SU3), as it keeps connecting and instantly disconnecting all the time. I did already try to disable the energy-saving options for all USB-Ports, so that the computer is not allowed to disconnect the drive due to energy-saving.I did also try the device on another computer, where it works perfect without any drivers or something like that. The Device itself is plug and play, and there shouldnīt be an additional software needed. This is why I donīt get any support from the manufacturer. It seems to me, as if the USB Port does not supply enough energy to the external drive to keep the connection steady. The Lenovo Yoga Home 900 itself seems to recognize the device namely, so there shouldnīt be any problem of copatibility. My brother told me to look for an USB driver for the lenovo yoga home 900 to try to fix this issue, but i couldnīt find anything appropriate. The BIOS Update for the yoga home 900 has aready been installed, and dindīt help.I also tried other USB devices which are not affected by this problem e.g. my smart phone, Mouse and Keyboard (USB Dongle) and also my avermedia live gamer portable (streaming device). Hello

im having a problem with my wireless n usb adapter with windows 7.

Now its been like this for a week and iv tried all sorts, normally i can fix it myself but this one i cant get around it.

My problem is when i use my main desktop pc, it will connect to the router which is a Belkin N Router and show a limited or no connectivity issue however then all my other devices that are connected to the router will disconnect and the router will disappear on the list.

I have tried two different routers + the virgin super hub and they all do the same. All my other devices work fine with them routers except for my main pc. I also tried using a different usb adapter to connect which was a different brand and that did the same thing with the router.

i've also reformatted my desktop and still get the same problem on a fresh install on first connect.
Im running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, problem however started happening on Windows 7 home edition.

If anyone knows anything on how to fix this issue then please enlighten me because im pretty stumped to what is causing this.

Thanks again
Zee

Edit ---

Works fine with WPA TKIP but the internet is then really slow. If i try and connect again with WPA2 then again it all hangs up.

Having solved a number of issues with Windows 10, I almost have it as it should have been from day 1. I still have one annoying little issue.

You know that little sound the computer makes when you connect something to the USB port such as an external hard drive, well mine does it every 10-15 minutes. The sound is as if it is connecting something and then 10 minutes later, disconnecting. I have external drives connected but done of them are the culprits as they show being connected all the time. The computer wakens on its own from sleep mode from time to time too so something is whirring away.

I have a wireless printer attached and wondered if it could be the problem but when I need to use it, I have no issues. Everything seems to be working except for the connect/disconnect sound constantly playing in the background. Any suggestions?

I have a laptop still to update to Windows 10 but I have no intention until I nail these problems first.

Ian

A:Windows 10 - sound of external hardware connecting and disconnecting

Well it is not the wireless printer, that sound comes on when a physical connection is made. Change your power settings to high performance so the machine does not go to sleep and evaluate; if that does not help, then disconnect the drives, one at the time for an hour each and evaluate further.
