Access Denied (how to gain access to another machine QUICKLY!!)

Q: Access Denied (how to gain access to another machine QUICKLY!!)

And yet quite possibly another no brainer for you all, I work on a large number of machines for family and friends, mostly 2000 or XP Home and Pro and to be quite honest with you I am not sure what the best way to connect to these machines would be, what I mean is I am soooooo tired of setting up a machine in my shop, running up stairs to my primary machine to either get in remotly or tap into the c:\ drive of the other machine only to realize that I do not have permition, or I do not remember the computer name, or I do not have the password, or I can not log on as the "guest". Do you know what I mean? I get so frustrated when I get the "Access Denied" message. it seems to me I spend more time trying to get into these machines than I do reparing them. So I guess my question would be, once I have the machine setup what is the FASTEST way for me to gain access to that machine from another machine? Lets just focus on XP and 2000, Do I really have to setup a user first to gain access? or is there a quicker way. Thanks.

Preferred Solution: Access Denied (how to gain access to another machine QUICKLY!!)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

am doing this for a client and this sharing has got me stumped. ive done everything m.s. sites says and still i get access permission errors on the xp when trying to access the vista. i can see the vista owners folder as well as the public.

i have my main machine being xp pro - other machine is vista business. trying to setup file sharing between both machines. the vista machine can see and access all the shared folders i have set on the xp machine with no problems. problems is trying to access the vista c:\users\owner\mydocuments i keep getting a permissions error when accessing from the xp pro machine.

i have set the shares i believe correctly on the vista machine. i do not have specific users defined on the vista and i dont want that. basically what i am trying to do is copy files from my xp machine to the vista c:\users\owner\mydocs folder

if i copy from the xp to the public share folder i have no problem but i want to copy directly to the c:\users\owner\mydocs folder.

suggestions please.

Hey all, first off let me say if this has already been posted in some shape or form, I'm really sorry. I have had a look but can't find anything to help me..

The problem I have is I have a vista os on my laptop, and i have a wireless LAN set up. I can access the internet on my laptop through this lan, however, if I try to access files on my xp os computer, which has the modem/router plugged into it, I get told I don't have permission. On the xp machine I have allowed my documents to be shared, and as far as I know, I have let anyone access it (I did this just so I could get the file sharing working, I was going to look at security afterwards). Anyway, I have tried everything I know (which is very little about networks) to get it to work, but the same result each time. If someone could write up a quick walkthrough on how to set up the file sharing, or point me to a website that I can find out, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have Vista Home Premium on my laptop.
XP proffesional on desktop computer
and a etgear wireless modem/router.

Luke

P.S. I'm not an idiot when it comes to computers lol, I know pretty much everything else, so the walkthough doesn't have to be extremely detailed .

Here comes my problem:

- I have one Windows 7 Ultimate and 2 Windows 7 Professional in Virtual machines.
- I have created a user test with the password test on all three machines.
- The "test user" is member of Administrators on all three computers.

PC1: Win 7 Ultimate
PC2: Win 7 Pro
PC3: Win 7 Pro

On PC1: \\PC2\c$ --> Not working
On PC1: \\PC3\c$ --> Not working

On PC2: \\PC1\c$ --> Working
On PC2: \\PC3\c$ --> Not working

On PC3: \\PC1\c$ --> Working
On PC3: \\PC2\c$ --> Not working

Other things behave the same. E.g. "shutdown -m \\machine"
Seems like my PC1 has something set up different. But I can't find it.
I checked the "Advanced sharing settings" and Local Security Policies.

EDIT1: \\PCx\Users is working well in any combination.
EDIT2: And if I remove admin rights from "test" on PC1, the others cannot access
c$ on PC1 any longer - as expected.

So the issue seems to be somehow related to the security rights of user "test" on
PC2 and PC3. Seems as test does not have the same rights there, although being
member of "Administrators".
Any ideas are highly appreciated!

And last but not least: A friend of mine has the same strange thing.
But he has one Win 7 Pro and one Win 7 Home Premium. Access from one
machine to the other is fine. But not vice versa.

Got the solution: Have to turn UAC off, then it's working. VERY weird!

I have a Dell Dimension 2400 Intel Pentium running Windows XP  sp3 and have been getting tons of junk mail. I ran Avast, malware bytes &spybot. Nothing found. So I started looking through the Dell help on my computer. I'm not as savvy as I'd like to be and while trying to fix the issue myself I did something that I shouldn't have. A:lsass.exe Access Denied a process has requested access to an object, but has not been granted those access rights

Windows XP has reached end of life 2 years ago... It is an insecure Operating System and should no longer be used especially online.
The Dimension 2400 is weak hardware (Pentium 4 Processor, IDE hard drive, DDR RAM) from 2003! so 13 years old! Its not worthwhile running a modern Operating System on it and below minimum system requirements.
If on a budget you are best to buy a second hand OptiPlex 780 with a Windows 7 OEM license (which can be used for a free Windows 10 upgrade).

Hello,

I work for a local high school and have been having a lot of problems sharing a printer attached to a Windows 2000 machine by an parallel cable. I'm trying to share the printer with 2 Windows XP Pro machines. All 3 PCs have the same logon and I have granted access to the printer for that account. File and printer sharing are also checked on all 3 PCs.

Here is a little more information since I had a lot of problems getting this to work. We have a LAN and Novell Server in the school, but the only manages the office PCs. All the PCs are part of workgroups with each room being its own workgroup. The 3 PCs I'm working with are attached to network drops. I could not use the Add Printer Wizard to have the two XP PCs find the printer after it was shared. I had to get the IP address of the 2000 machine and then type in that IP address under run on the two XP PCs. I then double clicked on the shared printer that showed up and installed the drivers. The printer shows up on the two XP PCs as HPDesk 990 on x.x.x.x (the IP address of the 2000 machine). When I first added the printer, it worked fine. After rebooting however, I cannot access it. It just shows Access Denied. The only thing I can think of is that the logon on Windows 2000 requires a password but you don't have to enter as password to login on the two XP machines.

Is there anything else I need to check for? Thanks.

Mythos

A:Access denied when trying to share LPT attached printer on Win2K machine

Make sure those PCs are ALL in the SAME workgroup, otherwise NO share.
And using a password is a good thing for a flawless connection, even if all passwords are the same.

Hi,
I am trying to execute psexec command to remote machine.
My command is
psexec -u domain\user -p password \\machineName -c abc.bat
I am trying from windows 7(64 bit)  machine. The remote machines are xp and windows 7(32 and 64 bit).
In XP machines, it is working and also in some windows 7 machines. But in some windows 7 machines it give message-
"Could not start PsExec service on target machine.
Access is denied."

If I try to execute psexec command from XP machines, it works to all machines.
Suddenly what happen I do not know but one of the windows 7 machine( where psexec was not starting) , psexec started. but not in other machines.
Now I am very much confuse here exactly what happen. and what is the issue.
Please help. It urgent.
Thanks.

A:Could not start PsExec service on target machine. Access is denied.

Hi,

When opening the Command Prompt, please right click it and run as Administrator. Meanwhile, make sure the user has administrator privileges on target PC. If the issue
persists, try to disable UAC on both sides.

As far as I know the Security Level on Windows 7 is higher than the level on Windows XP.  Therefore, 'psexec' works to all machines.

Niki

Hi,
We are running our Domain Controller and Active Directory in the cloud. All our users use their AD account to log onto their computers and this has been working fine for the last few years. Today an employee needed to change their password and for some reason
they get the error: "Configuration information could not be read from the domain controller, either because the machine is unavailable, or because access is denied".
After trying it several times, always with the same result, I checked to make sure that the DC/AD was available. After that, I manually entered the DNS of our DC to make sure that it wasn't just a network error. That didn't change anything though. Then I
used my account to log onto his machine and I was able to change my password with no problem. That made me think that this must be an issue with his account but when I checked it, the permissions were all set correct.

After researching this error online and finding no helpful answer that explains why this is happening and how to fix it I'm stuck. Does anybody know why this is happening? And does someone know how to fix this?
With kind regards,
C. Zerbe

Pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL password change will not work.
Had user change password via corporate online system.
Now machine would not unlock with new password would still unlock using old password.
Confirmed user logged onto machine with domain account.
I disconnected LAN and was able to lock/unlock Windows with new domain password while system was connected to corporate WiFi network.

What would cause this issue? How to troubleshoot such issues to find out root cause?

Good morning,I have a system that has had numerous issues, mainly virus related. I have cleaned the system, and show no virus activity... but I'm still having issues.Late last week the system was stuck in a loop, it wouldn't boot to Windows at all (no safe mode, no normal mode). I resorted to a Windows repair from the install disk. It worked... to a certain degree. I am now able to get into Windows, but can not open IE and I can not install a display driver.I am unable to access Windows Update, but was able to set automatic updates to install lots of updates including SP3, but I am still unable to make any changes.Initially when I attempted to open IE I would get a window saying that IE had to close instantly. I attempted to reinstall IE, and I attempted to install a newer version of IE. Neither worked. If I chose to install the updates with the install I would get an access denied error, if I chose not to install the updates with the install it would look like it worked, but now when I click on IE I get "Error loading C:\WINDOWS\System32\inetcpl.cpl. The operating system cannot run %1"In device manager, I have no drivers installed on my display adapter. If I try to update it, it looks like it's going to install... but then I get "Cannot install the hardware. Access is Denied".Any assistance or insight into this would be appreciated.

A:Unable to access IE, access denied when updating display drivers, no windows update

On any system with a number of issues...it's often better to do a clean install to wipe the slate clean, rather than hope that you have patched all known and unknown issues, IMO.

So today I was working on my computer, my norton antivirus expired and so I bought a new one. Well it wouldn't renew my subscription so I read on a website that you need to clear norton out of your registry. So I followed the directions and ever since I did that when I open a webpage it goes to a screen that says:

ERROR

The requested URL could not be retrieved
-----------------------------------------------

The following error was encountered:

- Cache Access Denied

Access control configuration prevents this request.

On top of that I get a similar message when I try to run live update. I have the computer hooked up to a linksys router with high speed internet. Please help.

A:Messed up computer and cannot access internet, page says cache access denied

Hmm, that's a good one. Try reinstalling IE or Firefox, whatever internet software you use. You might have inadvertently deleted an application cache file which the application needs.

Only other thing to do is boot into safe mode and select last know good boot.

I have kinda setup a network with my computer and a laptop which has just been formatted. It now has XP service pack 2 installed and I have to enter the password and username of an account on the laptop in order to access the resources.
Now I can access the laptop using my computer, when the laptop tries to access my computer, and tries to get a file, the message on the title always comes up.

I have unchecked simple file sharing and enabled full access (read/write) on the laptop whose account Im using. But it didnt work.

When opening my computer today, I have noticed a message about migration and program controls and some information about windows NT and windows 3.x This has never popped up and am wondering if this has made any changes to my computer not the laptop.

So Is there a simple way that does not restrict the laptop from getting the resources on my computer??

Hi, everyone,

I'm mostly a Linux guy these days, so I'm no longer clued up about even simple Windows issues. Bear with me.

I have one PC running Vista (home basic), one running XP (professional) and one running Windows 7 (home basic). There is a printer connected to the Vista box, which is shared.

On the XP box I can both see and use the printer on the Vista box (i.e. a "net view \\vistabox" shows the printer, and under "printers and faxes" I can install and use it).

On the Windows 7 box, however, I can see the Vista box (i.e. a "net view" shows it in the list of available PCs on the network) but a "net view \\vistabox" gives me an "access denied" error.

The Windows 7 machine has a password on it, the Vista and XP machines don't. All machines are on the same workgroup name (which is "WORKGROUP"). On the XP box I don't need a password to access the shared printer on the Vista machine; it just works.

Extensive Googling has failed to render enlightenment, nor has browsing this forum. I'm sure it has something to do with security and passwords, somewhere, somehow, but I have no idea in which direction to look for it, let alone fix it. I have also read some things about workgroups and homegroups not being the same in Windows 7, but I'm not sure if this is correct (and if so, relevant).

All suggestions on where to go from here would be greatly appreciated!

A:Denied Access To Set Program Access And Defaults By Rundll32.exe

Hi and welcome.rundll32.exe is a process which executes DLL's and places their libraries into the memory, so they can be used more efficiently by applications. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.Note: rundll32.exe is a process registered as a backdoor vulnerability which may be installed for malicious purposes by an attacker allowing access to your computer from remote locations, stealing passwords, Internet banking and personal data. This process is a security risk and should be removed from your system. This is strange, this might be a malware or it might just be some promblem with the rundll32.exeI would run a scan and see what the scanners find. DON'T remove rundll32.exe, because it is most likely a legitimate file.Regards,ExtremeboyGreat that you figured it out. Can you tell us how you fixed the promblem?

Hi, im having a problem gaining access to any websites.

On my laptop, I can gain access to the web in a multiple of ways.
Other than dialup, i use my wireless connection.

I live next to an airport and I've been gaining access to it fine since i got the laptop, also theres other connections i can gain access to around me i know the risks and everything. I use the airport i live next to though mostly without any fear. Its one perk living next to a small airport. Literally my backyard borders it.

Anyway. Back to the problem. If i access the airports signal, or any other signal I am able to log on, and it shows that im online but in any web browser it won't load the any page i enter into the address bar. It shows the address for example www.yahoo.com, but the title of the page will be comcast.net and some weird page supposedly from comcast. No matter what i do or where i go. And in Mozilla firefox i get this error

security error: domain name mismatch

you have attempted to establish a connection with "dss2.siteadvisor.com" However, the security certificate presented belongs to "actsvr.comcastonline.com." It is possible, though unlikely, that someone may be trying to
intercept your communication with this web site.

I know what someones feelings might be on me gaining access to those signals but thats besides the poing, i'd appreciate it if anyone could just help me understand why this is happening on more than one connection. Like if this is... Read more

I've setup a pc that was previously connected to the Internet via AOL and dial-up with a NIC and DSL. I CAN'T see the Internet, I can't ping the gateway or DNS server. I CAN ping the loop-back, the pc's IP address and other IP addresses within my lan. This pc is currently connected directly to the DSL modem via a hub as is one other pc that is working just fine.

I have re-installed all networking components, tried different NICs, cabling, ports, etc. Nothing has worked. This machine is loaded and I don't want to have to go through a reformat. Can you help me with any suggestions? I would like to completely replace the networking components and remove all settings from the registry and start over, but I don't know where all of the registry settings are or if it is even worth trying.

Thanks for any help.

For the past few days, I have been getting messages that "setupXXXXXXXXXX.exe" (x=random number) wants to gain access to your computer. I click deny (or not allow) and in an instant an new message pops up only with different random numbers. There is also the random one that says "mamatije.exe" that trys to gain access.

I think it is connected but I am not able to open mozilla firefox and my computer has been extremely slow in loading programs or using them.

I used malwarebytes anti-malware and spybot search & destroy.

What should I do? Thanks.

My computer has been battling with my graphics card & modem lately. So, today I reinstalled Windows with the backup feature provided with the backup (emachine). After I had updated windows completely & replaced my extensive collection of fonts I went to put all my personal files back. I get this message:
"FOLDER LOCATION" is not accessible.
Access is denied.Click to expand...

It's the "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner" folder

It has all my music, videos, photos, & work for things I do in it. I can get into my 'WINDOWS' folder and 'Program Files' but not that. Is there a way I can get into it? I've tried using Ubuntu with the hard-drive mounted and I get that the HD is read-only and I can't move/rename/delete/ect. anything on it. I've been working on it for hours with no results at all, help

I have installed the BT home hub (British Telecom) There are two user accounts on my pc. I am the administrator, and have no problems using the connection to the hub (either wirelessly or by cable) at all!

I do however, have a problem with any other user been able to connect to the internet. I have tried making them and "Administrator" too, and I get the same error message:

Forbidden

You were denied access because;
Access denied by access control list.

My reasoning told me that it might be a software problem, as a dial up connection, and a standard broadband cable connection all worked peviously with the two "Adimistrator", and "restricted" user accounts.

I spoke to BT who decided that it was a microsoft issue...microsoft UK want to charge me ?49 to help as my XP Home Edition wasn't bought from them, it was pre-installed. I contacted Time Computers for help from them, though I am utterly dissapointed in them...I am a novice computer user, but I recognised that my ?1 per minute technical help call was ludicrous...DON'T USE IT! They spend 5 mins getting and checking your details!

1, Since when has creating a shortcut to a connection ever "lifted" an access denied?

2, I was also told to delete the accounts that were not allowed the access. They told me to click on save files, after I had started to delete the account...they got mixed up with the order of how things are done! Luckily I got it halted!

Hello,

I had to rebuild my PC a week or so ago and now cannot access a website that I have always been able to access before.

I keep getting a message saying "Forbidden. Access denied by access control list" but there is absolutely nothing within my access control list restricting this site.

I then went in and added the URL as an allowable site within the access control list thinking that might help and I'm still forbidden from accessing the site.

I've cleaned out my cache and ran Ad-aware to see if that would help and still nothing.

Any suggestions?

Thanks very much.

I'd like to put a .cmd file in my c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup directory, but \Documents and Settings has a lock on it and tells me "Access denied" when I click on it. Is this a job for "Take Ownership" or is there another way? The instructions for "Take Ownership" say not to use it on the C drive, but it's not clear if that applies to the whole drive, or individual files/folders on it. Thanks.

A:"Access denied:" How to overcome denied access to a folder

That is the incorrect path. No need to mess with permissions, I'd advise leaving them alone.

The path you are looking for is C:\Users\<your user account>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

I think I have accidentally let a computer have access to my own, I was trying to install some software when i noticed a Macbook Pro was in my network tab on the file explorer. When I click on the Macbook Pro it says that I need a password to access it. I had never seen it before until I tried to install the software. I keep getting windows open and close randomly that are clear and have no text. The window might stay in the task bar for a few seconds before closing and when I hover my mouse over it its called 'Genious'. Nothing happens if you click on it. I updated and ran my avast antivirus software and it says there aren't any viruses.

Also, the last three msgs I received will not delete and when opened - they are blank. I am able to open previous msgs, send out msgs, but can not receive new messages.

Hello guys. I followed this guide to gain access for WindowsApps folder, and it worked.
Now, I changed default drive for WindowsApps, to install Gears of War and Quantum Break(in future) in a larger drive. But the method to gain access to the WindowsApps folder, seem to not work if the drive isn't C, the default one.

A:How to gain access to WindowsApps folder not in C?

Be careful changing permissions of system directories and files. You probably shouldn't unless you really know what you're doing and know how to reverse any changes you've made. Recursive permission modifications are very indiscriminate. You can easily find yourself with a non-functional OS which is beyond your ability to repair.

Now changing permission on your own files (files folders Windows does not create itself) is totally ok and encouraged to learn how NTFS permissions work.
Anyway onto your issue. Changing permissions works for any NTFS filesystem. Are you using NTFS on the partition which you're trying to install your games to?
