Delay When Typing--internet Access Is Slow

Q: Delay When Typing--internet Access Is Slow

Just started having problems with my internet access yesterday. Coincidentally (or not), I also downloaded software from the partypoker.net site the same day. I'm guessing that is what is causing the trouble. When I type, there is a significant delay and sometimes the keystrokes don't appear at all. I've gone through each step in the "Preparation Guide for use before posting a HijackThis Log" and the problem has improved but still seems present. I'd be very grateful for any help in solving the problem. Hijack this results are below. Thanks!!!Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 2:06:22 PM, on 1/2/2006Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\bin\jusched.exeC:\WINDOWS\stsystra.exeC:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\DVDLauncher.exeC:\Program Files\Musicmatch\Musicmatch Jukebox\mm_tray.exeC:\Program Files\Musicmatch\Musicmatch Jukebox\mmtask.exeC:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\RealPlay.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\dla\tfswctrl.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\issch.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgcc.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgemc.exeC:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zlclient.exeC:\Program Files\Dell Support\DSAgnt.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgamsvr.exeC:\Program Files\Digital Line Detect\DLG.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgupsvc.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7DEBUG\MDM.EXEC:\WINDOWS\system32\ZoneLabs\vsmon.exeC:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXEC:\DOCUME~1\Eric\LOCALS~1\Temp\Temporary Directory 2 for hijackthis.zip\HijackThis.exeR0 - Preferred Solution: Delay When Typing--internet Access Is Slow

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently downloaded IE6. Since then I have been experiencing delayed typing when filling out the forms on web pages and very slow scrolling. This only happens on a few websites, like ebay and some shopping sites. I found a post from a person who was experiencing the same problems and tried to follow the same fix, however my "Hijack This" log does not look the same. Following is my log, any help would be greatly appreciated, I've been going nuts!!!

When I restart or turn on my lap top after it's been off for a while it will only give me my background picture. No icons, no start menu at the bottom, nothing. Until I try to run a new task from the task manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL is the only keystroke-type command I know) Then everything starts appearing as if nothing was wrong. When I type online there is a huge delay between when I push the buttons and when they appear on the screen. My virus scans show nothing is wrong. (I use trend-mirco's firewall and virus scanning products and also use firefox and I don't know if trend-micro only works on internet explorer or not...) I tried defragmenting to try and speed up the typing ting but it did no good... I don't know what is wrong but I do know that I can't get the updates from the updates.microsort.com website even though they are in the trusted websites thing in internet explorer (which is what I used to try and get the updates because you can't get them through firefox) and every time I open the computer (even from stand-by) I get a message from trend micro telling me it is stopping unauthorized changes and that change is some sort of "program Library Injection" that has to be blocked about a hundred times in a minute for the first 2 to 5 minutes of the computer being on. I don't know what is wrong but I do know that something is not right.

In the past day, and since I installed MS Office Home and Student (installed yesterday) there is a big central white box that appears in the middle of my desk top for about 1/2 second, and this occurs right after the desktop appears. That white box is a new problem since I installed Office. ALSO problematic is the fact that I have to wait an extra minute before I get internet access.

Just after booting and just after the desktop appears, the internet icon shows up, as usual, in the system tray. But what is new is that a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark appears on top of the internet icon. The yellow triangle stays there for about 1 minute and I don't have internet access. Finally, the yellow triangle disappears and I do have internet access.

The Comcast (my isp) telephone support person says that it is not a problem with Comcast equipment. "MS Office Home and Student" support people say that such a problem is not due to the new Office install.

Yes, this is not a monumental problem, but I would like to get to the bottom of it, since I have already spent about a day trying to solve it.

A:a new delay (~ 1 min) getting internet access

Are you running a Security Suite, That would be the most likely suspect, disable it from starting to see if your internet connecting is resolved.

You can disable from msconfig, go to Start > Run > type msconfig then click on Startup the uncheck your security suite, then reboot. Make sure after testing to re-enable.

After an upgrade of Windows Exporer 8 for Windows Vista typing in the textbody of Outlook 2007 (via web access) is extremely slow and strokes may take 10-15 seconds to be dispayed at the screen. I think its an explorer problem as it is not happening when I access Outlook in FireFox or Google Chrome. I could of course use the two others but they are missing some functionalities for working with Outlook that I like to work with (like sorting).

Is there a fix for this problem?

Thanks in advance

Using Vista Home Premium 32 bit on new Toshiba Laptop - P105-S6197, Core 2 Duo processor, T5200 1.60 GHz, 2048MB Memory Size. Has anybody experienced a typing delay from the time you type the words to the time it appears on the screen? This has occured on my new laptop. Never a problem on my 2 yr old Sony desktop (Windows XP Media Center) or Sony laptop (Windows 98SE).

A:Typing delay

No, but i can probably tell you that the problem is the 1.60GHz processor. You will probably need atleast 1.80GHz to 2.00GHz clock speed.

This happens quite often and usually a reboot fixes the problem but I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue.

Once my laptop has been running for a while (day or two) I will notice that when I am pounding away at the keyboard typing there will be a delay until the characters actually show up. Sometimes I am 8-10 characters ahead of what is being displayed on the screen. It makes it real hard to understand if I have typed the correct letter/characters sometimes. If I go to tap the Backspace key a few times to delete it's delayed as well.

When I reboot the problem is gone. Very strange problem and I am sure it's a bug or something that causes a memory leak of some sort somewhere. Call me crazy... LOL!

Anybody else experience this?

I'm curious as to whether yer keyboard is a USB one. Could be the USB port is underpowered or something. You could try plugging your keyboard into another port (if it is USB). Do not plug it into a USB hub. Try plugging it directly into one of the rear ports on your computer.

Hello everyone ! I have a slight problem with my wifes typing on web pages and that seems to be the only place it takes place does not happen in word or any other software installed just the world wide web. she is using IE 8 due to the fact she will not let me upgrade here system from XP so anyway whenever she starts hammering away over there in he corner the text input on the web page does not keep up with her input on the key board. She has to stop for 2 to 4 seconds and wait for her typing to appear on the screen . Have not had the chance to disable all add ons yet as she always seems to be there when I have a chance to work on her system. I have though run several virus scans and malware scans and so forth and so on but nothing really showing up to amount to anything. Everything goes in fine in word and whatever else she uses just seems to be the web . I hope I have been clear enough to explain the situation so if more info is needed I will do my best to offer and continue to research on.

I am a Wikpedia editor and about a year and a half ago I encountered a problem where when I type something in the edit box, it would take a second before the words actually appeared on the screen. This only happens in wikpedia. So I scanned with Malwarebytes and got a malware and quarantined it. After that the issue was gone. About a week ago the problem came back. But I don't know if it's malware again, because Malwarebytes and Avast couldn't catch it. Please help me get rid of this annoying problem.

This computer has had issues with connecting to the internet for some time. I have sought help in the Malware section of volunteer malware removal forum and can confirm that no virus or other malware is the cause of this behavior.

When the system boots up it will take 5 full minutes before I am able to access any websites (sticks on Resolving [URL here]). If I use MSConfig to ensure that only System Services load with Windows, this time is cut down to 2:30 minutes. If I boot into Safe Mode w/Networking this time is cut down to 0:30 seconds. I have a second Windows 7 HP 64-bit laptop and it gains access to the web as soon as I can get a web browser open.

What would be the best way to try and figure out what is causing this delay? Should I be analyzing boot-up programs and services with software or? Since there is a 2min difference between Safe Mode and Windows with only System Services loading, perhaps a problem lies within the system itself? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A:Internet Access, 5min Delay At Bootup, How Do I Fix?

3 minutes to boot in safe mode is quite a long time.
The most common reasons would be

This lag doesnt happen always but once it starts, i usually have to restart my pc to get it to stop. Is there something wrong with the intel driver? or what i have no idea!!

Thank you for any insight/suggestions

I am having a delay of approximately 12-18 minutes from the time I power up my laptop, until the internet connection is achieved and the connection icon appears on my taskbar. This happens when connecting via wireless/broadband, or ethernet cable. During this delay time, if I click on "start," sometimes the "start" button will stay depressed until the internet connection is achieved and displayed. When I started by using "Safe Mode," the internet connection was achieved immediately.
I have tried unsuccessfully to solve this problem by doing the following:

- Scanned and rescanned for malware, spyware, and viruses with SpyNoMore, McAfee, and Microsoft Security Essentials
- Restoring to an earlier date--October 30 (well before problem occurred). When I restarted the computer after this "restore," the internet connection was immediate, but when starting up the next day, the delay problem appeared again.
- Used "MSConf" to disable all non-microsoft start-up services
- Tried to connect with another wireless router in a different geographic location
- Reviewed by Add/Remove Programs list, and deleted all unnecessary programs

I am at a loss as to what to do next, other than to restore to factory settings. HELP!!

Safe Mode? Safe Mode with Networking is supplied because Safe Mode should not load the networking drivers.

I think that there is a small possibility that an incorrect driver--one that is not loaded in Safe Mode--is causing this, so suggest to install the latest from your laptop manufacturer's web site, beginning with the chipset.

More likely is a program or service that runs in normal but not Safe mode. You can use msconfig to try to isolate which one.

Hello, I am new here because usually I do not need to resort to this to fix a computer. I am fixing my girlfriend's mom's HP Mini running Windows XP. The problem she is having is that when she uses internet explorer it is incredibly slow and words take a long time to appear after they are typed. I suspected malware and scanned the computer with Avast, that found 21 threats and quarantined them. The problem not being fixed the computer has now been scanned with VundoFix, MalwareBytes, Spybot Search and Destroy, AdAware SE, most of these programs finding something. CCleaner has also been used. The following day Avast found another dozen threats. The problem is still not resolved, here is my Hijack log from WinPatrol. Hello there, this problem is not extremely important, so by all means, if someone else needs to be helped first, no problem.

When I open firefox 3 or the IE Explorer, and I procede to type in the search bar of any search engine or just the address bar there is a slight delay in when I type to when the typed shows up on the screen. Just wanted to know if there is any remedy to this situation.

Steps I have taken....

1. I have just rebounded from a devistating virus attack. Thanks to your forums and Simon I was able to get things cleaned up.

2. I am using clamwin as anti virus

3. I am always scanning my pc for malwar via spybot, ad aware and other such programs as well.

If you need a greater detail for what I have done in reguards to the virus there is probably a way you can link to my other posts in the other forum.

windows xp, new Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop. Why won't the the screen keep up with my key board when I type? It doesn't matter if it is an external keyboard or the laptop keyboard. I have Avast running, and have tried shutting down, no difference. Please help.

A:Delay from keyboard to screen in typing

Check task manager to see what % your CPU is running. You may have some malware or failty software that is occupying almost all the CPU time.

I just got this HP Pavilion x360 (the convertible laptop/tablet) last week, and I've been having troubles with the keyboard. On certain websites, such as this one, there is no typing delay. However, on Facebook, Facebook Messenger, and Word Online, the characters I'm typing DO NOT appear on the screen at the same time that I'm typing them. It either freezes for a second and then quickly inputs all of what I've typed, or it just takes a few seconds longer for each key I press to show up on the screen. I've checeked to make sure Filterkeys isn't enabled and that no extensions are running in the browser. This happens in both Microsoft Edge and Chrome. P.S. when I was registering for an HP support account, I just realized that the @ key and the " are switched. So shift+2 gives me an ", and shift+" gives me an @ sign. Please help! I really like the computer other than this horrible typing lag.

Hi all -

What a pain! Recently I've started having a problem where each time I type a character there is a one second delay before it appears on my Yahoo Messenger window. Logging in and chatting takes forever.

I downloaded trillian and same problem.

I ran Spybot, Microsoft AntiSpyware, AdAware, HijackThis and tons of others. Cleaned up but to no avail. Here's my HijackThis log. Any advice?

After a period of time browsing with IE, any URL we type into the Internet Explorer address bar starts to appear very slowly with maybe a second between each letter we type appearing. You have to close the browser down and restart to resume normal service.

There appear to be no settings to change that can affect it. We're using Service Pack 2 although the problem happened in SP1 as well. Please don't ask us to change browser as its an office policy to use IE.

Thanks for any assistance

Title I wanted to use: Windows XP SP3: Slow Startup / Boot: Black Screen Delay & Delay after logging in

For some reason I can't preview my post when I use this title: I have tried removing all the punctuation, including the &, which doesn't work and have tried other titles with the same character length, which does work.

Problem Begins Here:

When I turn on or restart my computer, the boot up time from the time I press the power button to the time the final icon on my desktop loads is slow. I am not too concerned about the time after my desktop is shown since I have several items to run at startup.

The two areas of concern are:

1) After the XP logo is shown, my screen goes black. This lasts for about 17 to 19 seconds. I don't know when this started as I rarely restart my computer. The problem is worse if I startup in Safe Mode. It's about 1 minute and 10 seconds before I see anything on the screen, and another 40 seconds before something else is shown on screen. Note: In order to not to have to waste time pressing F8 and choosing Safe Mode, I enter safe mode by specifying so in msconfig. The options I chose were /SAFEBOOT and Minimal.

2) After I login, there is a delay of about 30 to 45 seconds before the desktop is shown. Windows stays at the login confirmation screen during that time. This I feel has happened recently.

Boot Time Results tested using a stopwatch:

Normal Boot (i.e. Not Safe Mode):

So it may just be a coincidence. I just installed Windows 10 on my PC. And now when I try to type in yahoo mail it only lets me type one letter at a time. Then I get this twirling blue icon indicating it is working on adding that ONE letter to the message. I have never had this problem before.

Has anyone else had this problem. And if so, how might I get yahoo mail to accept letters typed as I type them?

Hi all.

I come now with a new problem. I pretended for some time I did not care, but that is now making me pull the hair from my head.

I installed something (which I did not pay attention to at that time and I don't remember what it was) and too many other programs after that (programs I constantly use, and therefore I don't want to get rid of). If I roll back my computer to an earlier time to dismiss this problem, I would be uninstalling all those valuable programs I am talking about.

Since the first installation, when I select in excel (using the mouse), when I am typing in Word, Internet or whatever other program, things stop working. There is a delay in response. I type, but I don't see what is just typed on the screen, because the computer freezes undexpectedly, and then it comes with the whole thing at once. In the meantime, I could have made a mistake in typing, but because I couldn't see it right away on the screen, I cannot be sure if I made it, and have to wait until the computer 'defreezes' back and keeps working along.
The delay doesn't last too long, but it's frequent and recurrent. So it's always there. It is a pain in the neck, and I am being very decent to say it.

It is not the Ram, because I have plenty of it. It is not the speed of the chip, because my computer is not old. It is not a wrong installation of the programs I installed because everything works fine at the end. It is just that freaking delay that re... Read more

I noticed that in IE 11 on Windows 8.1 that there was this slightly perceived typing lag when entering text in fields displayed in the browser. This lag would not be present in Chrome, Opera, and others... so that's what would make it noticeable. When you type fast, it is most noticeable, but not so bad as to obstruct typing or create errors.

However, now in Windows 10, the lag has increased. Painfully so. I find that with my typing rate, the keyboard input cannot "keep up" and I lose letters! I'd have to go back and correct works due to missing letters. I've resorted to keeping Textpad open and typing all my text there, then copy/paste into the browser fields. The different is very noticeable.

I've searched around and found a few scattered tips about dealing with this, but nothing seems to help. I have to believe there's a setting SOMEWHERE that is responsible. Or... is this a byproduct of Microsoft key logging?

When I input something with my keyboard, the touchpad/trackpoint doesn't accept any clicking for about ~0.5 seconds. Its a small delay but it is driving me insane. T460 laptop, Synaptics Clickpad V1.1 Things I've tried:-  Reinstalling drivers, and restarting laptop. Nothing changed.-  Turned palm rejection to minimum. This fixes an earlier problem where the mouse would stop moving with keyboard presses, but it doesn't affect the clicking delay.-  Went into the registry editor, found 'synaptics' under 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE' but couldn't find any variables that indicate a delay after keyboard presses. I'd really appreciate any help with this. ~3 hours of googling isn't helping me. Thanks in advance.

I get the following pop up every morning when I start my computer:
Line: 1
Char: 78
Error: Invalid root in registry key
Code: 0
This is followed by a notepad with a log and I have to exit twice before the popups stop. I also get warnings that Acrobat cannot finish its update. This has been going on for a few months. In addition, my keyboard will delay typing 5-10 seconds or type multiples of the same letter. This makes Copy and Paste functions very difficult to do. I change my batteries in the wireless keyboard often to rule that out. I am not very tech savvy but try my best and can usually figure my way out of a problem, but this one has stumped me. At the end of each day I run CCleaner and usually have 5-600 GB that is cleared up. I then restart the computer and don't turn it off so that our server can run its backup. I do notice that if I don't do CCleaner my computer is extra sluggish.

Ok this has been happening for a few weeks now with the connection either being slow or just displaying a yellow triangle saying limited access and no internet access. Getting pretty desperate and running out of ideas now so need to ask here.

Basically we switched ISPs after about a month of no internet, our old modem was from 2005ish and it was just a standard modem where you plug in a wireless router into it and it worked fine. Now we have a wireless modem hub which we were using when I noticed my laptop started having these issues. The other laptop, phones, tablets and PS3 connect fine and maintain connection. So I decided to try connecting up our router and using that (Cisco Linksys E2000, which actually performs better anyway), however the problem persists.

I did a complete reinstall of Windows 7 32bit HP thinking it would solve the problem (I was planning on reinstalling anyway to speed it up) but it made no difference. Updated the drivers for the wifi card (Atheros AR9285) to the latest version. Nothing.

I've googled and tried a bunch of things including disabling ipv6, ROUTE DELETE and resetting to, disabling DHCP in ipv4. Right now in Device manager I'm also seeing a "Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface" which I've just noticed on this startup. It has a yellow triangle on it and says cannot start (code 10) in properties.

So basically, every so often the connection will either be slow or just won't start at all, and on some boots of the... Read more

Hi, To test the settings, try one of these utilities on the affected pc: Download and follow the instructions to see what if anything you may need to change: See the FAQs, and Tips and Tweaks sections here: What you will be using is DR TCIP, very simple tool, I've used it. I had dialup for years, and got cable, and my settings were not optimized at all for broadband.

There are other analyzers available, here is one I've used:

See the list on the left....Main>FAQs> then go through the list

If none of that helps> Try Firefox on that slow pc. It's gotten many people out of a jam with IE.

Have you tried repairing or rolling back IE and reinstalling IE 6.0, then updating it? Are there any security programs, even things like popup blockers, that are different on that slow pc?

Tried any online antivirus scans? Trojans and things will slow down a connection...

Have you scanned with the newest versions of SpyBot Search and Destroy, or Ad-Aware SE personal edition, or if using winXP, the Microsoft Antispyware program?

Something seems a little strange lately.

I've spent a lot ot fime thinking I might have a virus on my laptop but I've gone through the sites recommended by Tech Support Guy and nothing turns up.

Can someone please answer this one question?

If I double click on the Internet Connect status icon in teh system tray I notice that My Computer is sending about 12-13 units (bytes, bits, packets - I'm not sure) per second and receiving about 3 units per second. The internet Gateway however indicates that nothing is being send or received each second.

I'm not running anything that I know of that might be accessing the internet other than this page.

Can I determine anything from this?
Does it suggest that something may be running on my laptop trying to access teh internet?

I'm on XP SP3, and this problem started within the past few days.

Websites usually load pretty slowly (sometimes it's normal speed for a page or two), but my download speed doesn't seem to be affected. Online games are also slowed. Just got AVG for an unrelated reason, but the situation hasn't changed since a virus sweep. It feels like I'm constantly torrenting something, but nothing is downloading. At the moment I'm on Verizon 768k DSL, and a background check on all my running processes shows nothing strange.

A:Slow internet access

Its most likely your AVG antivirus. Do you have more that one antivirus and or antispyware installed. You should have only one. You can try uninstalling all antivrus and spyware programs, and see how it runs like that. Turn on windows firewall first I would then download a trial version of norton antivirus and see how it runs with that. Remember to reboot after you unistall any antivirus and antispyware programs.

We're using the SendObject action to send an Outlook message from Access. We also need to have the message sent to a different user after 24 hours. I believe the OnTimer event would require the database to remain open for that period, which won't work in this case. I know that one of the arguments for SendObject allows a Template to be used, but I can't find any info on a) how to create the template and b) does it allow a delivery delay? Thanks for any help ya'll can give.

A:Can you delay delivery using Access SendObject?

Outlook Help says -
Delay delivery of a message
If you use Microsoft Exchange Server, you can delay delivery of an individual message. Everyone can use the Rules Wizard to delay delivery of all messages by having them held in Outbox for a specified time after clicking Send.
Delay delivery of a message

In the message, click Options.
Under Delivery options, select the Do not deliver before check box, and then click the delivery date and time you want.

If anyone has started suffering from a long delay on their first access to a network (and this applies to dial-up as well as ADSL and LANs/WANs) from XP and especially since installing SP2, take a look at Task Manager. If there is a task taking most of the CPU cycles called SVCHost and Network Services, the chances are that it is trying to do update the DNS Cache and it takes a long time to fail to do it. I have solved it by setting the DNS Cache service to Manual. I haven't seen any side effects of this yet.

My NAS is named as SATURN in the Network.

Normally the Hard Drives in your NAS will be turned off after certain interval to save electricity cost. So if it is off for a while then will need to spin up when you access your NAS. You can change this setting in your NAS to turn it off under power management. You need to login into your Router and assign a static IP for your NAS so that everytime you power up the NAS, the same IP will be assigned to it. I am not sure why you set your hosts file with 2 addresses for your NAS.

Hope this helps.

Hello all,

I have a small work group of about 8 computers, some on Ethernet and some wireless. The DSL modem goes into a lynksys wireless g 4 port router (which has wireless turned off). The router does into a 15 port switch, which all the computers are connected to along with a wireless access point another 4 port switch and a printer.

Our Internet connection speeds are very slow on all the computers, but file transfers across the work group are fine.

I have tested the Internet connection speed at the modem with a laptop and get 4Mbps after the router speeds are 2.5Mbps and after the switch it is 0.3Mbps! I have checked the cabling and run virus scans but so far can't find the cause of the slowdown.

Any ideas what else I could try?

A:Workgroup has slow internet access

It could be the switch, itself. Have you tried swapping it with another one?
