Confusing technical error

Q: Confusing technical error

Whenever I log in to my windows XP, a minute after logging in a blue screen appears, saying, "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer". After this, it suggests several things to try and then it displays this technical error:

*** STOP: 0x0000008e (0xc0000005, 0x805787f8, 0xba11b99c, 0x00000000)

Below this it states it's "dumping physical memory to disk".
After a period of time it just shuts down and restarts. I've tried uninstalling my inernet security as I believe it involves the RAM in the computer (we have 1.5 GB) but that only worked for the day. What is going on with my computer?

Preferred Solution: Confusing technical error

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You could check the Minidump file in your Windows folder to see if that points to the cause of the problem. If you are unsure about what to look for, you could upload it here.

ok here is the deal. I just finished building my new pc. I believe that all the hardware is 100% correctly put in to the case. here is the problem:

When i boot my pc up, the fans are running everything looks good. My monitor on the other hand say "Monitor is in power save mode, Activate using pc." This is confusing to me. Now i have done a few things to solve this, but all failed. Iv'e tried a new monitor, no good... same message. I've rechecked my hardware... good i think. Now i have a USB and it goes through its checks when i boot up even though the monitor is not working. From what i understand from reading about the usb 4 red constant lights means something is wrong with your processor, but what do 4 green lights mean that are constant? Some people said to me that when you first boot up the pc there should be beeping. They said this is good. Well no sound happens with mine.... fans run lights go on. reset switch works... power switch ect... I can't figure out why it wont run though. If anyone has any suggestiong please.

Please post your system's specs. Best done by filling out your profile in this forum.

I'd start with the ram. First try the obvious, take the ram out and re-seat it. Next, if you have two sticks, try taking one out and see if that helps.

What is your graphics card? Does it require it's own connection to the power supply (as most new cards do) and have you connected it?

When posting your computer's specs, please include details on your power supply as well.

Alright, this is REALLY pissing me the *BEEP* off. It's been going on for quite awhile and I cannot find the source of why I get this error. What error you ask? Let me explain.

Alright, so I open up a folder and in this folder are some video files of mine [avi, mpg, whatever]. So far everything's all fine and dandy...until I do two things. One is right click, highlet "View", and then click on "Thumbnails". For a few seconds all the video files load properly, but out of the *beeping* blue I get this message.

The other issue I have results with the same problem as all I *beeping* do is click on a file and use the arrows to check each file and it doesn't matter how fast I tap the arrow buttons.

So that's my problem and I have no f-ing clue why I get this error. Maybe it's a driver problem? I don't know, but I can't find the origin of this issue.

My computer specs are pretty much that I'm running on a eMachine with Windows XP Service Pack 2.

Anyway, there is one thing that comes to mind as to why this happens. Can't say for sure if it has anything to do with this error, but a few months ago I installed the ATI Catalyst because my ATI graphics card is about 2 years old and I needed something to help play newer games. Sadly, it didn't really help all that much and I don't want to spend a couple hundred dollars upgraded my computer. Is it possible this ATI Catalyst could've caused this error to ... Read more

Hello everyone I hope someone here can help

First off, this problem is on my husband's puter.
OS: Windows XP Home Edition
CPU/Ram: Pentium R 4 CPU 2.80GHz; 2.79GHz, 512 MB Ram
System Manufacturer: Dell

He started getting a "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe abnormal program termination." about 5 days ago whenever he tries to play a game in Pogo. If you use Microsoft's JVM and click on a game in Pogo to play, you have an option on whether or not to download an applet that makes the game load quicker. If you use Sun Java, you don't get this option, 100's of files per game are saved to your puter whether you want them to or not. He has never had Microsoft's JVM on his puter, he only has ever used Sun.

When he gets the Runtime Error message, he clicks the OK button and IE closes completely. When he clicks on the Quick Launch icon for IE, it will open back up and he'll still be logged into Pogo.

I have researched many pages of Runtime Errors, and couldn't find anything that totally fits his problem.

Advice given in many sites was to run Ad-Aware, Spybot, virus scan and HijackThis. The people reporting the problem said that when they ran these programs, their problem was fixed due to ad- and spy ware. His was not. He does not have anything of the sort on his computer.

Other people said it was due to an Asus program, but he don't have that program on hi... Read more

I saw some posts that mention the Toolbars as causing this type of problem E.G. Google toolbar have you tried uninstalling all of those?

I've rattled off every setting for each prog and he has them all exactly], yet I end up cleaning and fixing his puter like every other day but I get something MAYBE once or twice a year. His Spybot is blocking over 13 000 objects, whereas mine is only blocking just over 7 000. ?!?!?! It's not that he's puter stupid or anything, nor does he "hang out" in questionable sitesClick to expand...

My thought is he has something thats reinfecting his PC over and over. I had 1 PC that I ran Spy-Bot, Ad-aware, Nav, AVG, CCCleaner, Ewido, Hijack this and more. I would get it 100% clean (from anyones perspective). I would hook it up to the internet and in 30 mins he would have more stuff on it. I ended up rebuilding it.

I've reinstalled an apache server on an external HD to do work on a website. PHP, MySQL etc all installed separately.

Well, I downloaded HJT on another computer, burned it, and uploaded it to a NEW folder on my desktop on my problem computer and, quite frankly, it goofed. HJT encounters an error when it is scanning NT services and has to exit. Man, I'm really beginning to hate this computer....

A:Technical Error In HJT

Some computers have this problem, try using an older version:

Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis1982.exe there. Run a scan and save the log file. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. Open up the result.txt file created. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

Since about a year ago I started playing around with C languages, everything was golden and ran rather well. However when I wrote an app that I will link below that seemed to behave in a very strange fashion.
The code compiled correctly however on my main computer something strange happened. It was a run time error that I have not seen before and when I ran the program in a VM and on a different computer and even in Linux it did not appear. The program operated
in every single system without fault. I even tried moving from the VS2012 Compiler to GNU however things got even worse. The program compiled under GNU and it never threw a run time error the one compiled with VS2012 did however throw an error. The program
compiled either by GNU or by VS simply locked up and remained open, it could not be closed by task manage or anything else I know of. It consumed a grand total of about 102k of ram with slight variances each time it was executed. I did a bit of research as
to why this issue is occurring and I even tried using a few command lines in CMD to try to fix it. Simply put I have been unable to pin point the issue and my research has been simply inconclusive, I am here today to ask has someone already had this kind of
problem and how best would it be resolved.
More information can be found in the Google drive link with the program and a snapshot of the error. The computer in question ... Read more

Dear Guyz,
this is my story, I have an Acer Aspire Z1620 AIO Desktop. It was working well on win8. However, yesterday while my desktop was on, electricity went out. I'm in India so it was all usual and generator started. So my DESKTOP ALSO STARTED at the same time. But what happened that after windows logo the screen got blurred and it restarted over again and again. I thought it would be simple so I thought to upgrade it to win8.1 . So I made a bootable pen drive and when I tried to install it. It says win8.1 can't be installed on MBR disk. It can be done only on GPT Disk. So, I tried to gather info. About MBR AND GPT but then in vain I found out that first I need to clean hard disk. So I formatted C: drive During installation. But the problem remains. It was asking to convert it into GPT ( Somehow with searching I found how to convert MBR into GPT using Diskpart). While I was using Diskpart it shows my C: Harddisk and D: Harddisk as one whole partition(900GB IN ONE WHOLE UNIT). Now I can't erase my D: Harddisk. I have got very very very important files. It is the source. Moreover, I found that throught GPTGEN it's possible. However, My command prompt is saying that the path cannot be specified (how could it when I already formatted my C: drive). By imparting more on net I found that by disabling UEFI mode into Legacy mode the computer will automatically take MBR drive. But when I opened BIOS Setup I can't find my UEFI Secure boot option. omg...I know this isn't the luckiest day of my life...

continuing my last post..
I have already finished installing & cloning the new hdd .. then I worked on it for about 5 hrs..
and everything was fine until I accessed a folder containing video clips .. when the clicking appeared again after playing some of the files the pc freezed again (after about 5 min)..

now I'm really confused.. where could the problem be ? the mobo, the graphics card, or a mere software problem???

I suspected the latter so I tried another OS (which was linux knoppix - cd boot) then I accessed the same folder and played the files, some of them didn't work at all, while others kept working with the clicking sound still there (although it didn't freeze this time)...
I also tried installing a fresh copy of windows but the process freezed in the middle and didn't complete...

now I'm really confused..
someone please help..

and thnx again...

A:this is really confusing ?!!!

Well I think a quick trouble shoot would be to run knoppix again with your case open and try and isolate where the sound is coming from. Caution as usual with the case open ground yourself with a static strap or hold onto the case, be careful of the fans.

I have a Compaq Presario S6300NX and I have downloaded the manual to see if I can read up on installing an Aftermarket fan, to blow OUT the hot air accumilating inside the box. I'm confused, and I have no clue where else to connect this Fan (as I can only see 1 spot, CHA Fan to connect to).

Any ideas?

Right, well I've just noticed there's a new folder on my ext. HD, which was created when I left the computer on overnight. The folder name's 'cda425aff9fa851d75a4ae23a15c' and in it contains a worryingly long .txt named 'msxml4-KB927978-enu' which I honestly have no idea about. It could be nothing, maybe off a legit program I've installed, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. I've attached a copy & paste from the mysterious text file, onto a new text file, if anyone wouldn't mind clarifying what it's actually about, and then go from there.

If you are keeping the same processor, there really isn't a reason to change your PSU. I'd only change it if you are going to also upgrade your video card. 95% of the PSUs that come with cases are horrible even if they have lots of watts.

What are your current components? My above answer will probably change if you have a branded pc (Dell, HP, whoever else still makes them).

Now the real problem is that I have a dell laptop having 15gb allocated to recovery and remaining 283gb to me on a single C:\ partition. I have lots of games and other things so how can I create another partition to move my files to that, and then do a recovery from my recovery partition on my c drive so that the other drive d which I'll create if possible is not harmed in anyway.

Hi all,
Before i get started, in case it makes a difference:
ubuntu 7.10 + pidgin, supposedly talking to a win XP + msn machine.

Today i had a contact request, but looking at the e-mail adress and msn name i was pretty sure who it was (friend at school) and accepted, etc.
Then my friend's previous account (the one he normally uses) said "hi", and we had a little chat, but there were some very odd things i am confused about:

He seemed to know me, but other things where completely random, and every time i say "What?" to any of these things i got:
"Not much, you?", in reply, so i thought he might have one of these bits of malware that occasionally says stuff like "I get my names from xyz.com"

I then got a message
I've also had a message of just my e-mail address, and other strange things. He is NOT a techie guy, so when he asking me if I had stumbleupon, I thought it was strange.
So i googled smarter child, and it seems it's an msn bot you can add. But i'm very confused; this is his normal e-mail account; so how can i tell if it's been hijacked?

Well i just moved into my residence on august 25th and since then the internet has been causing us problems. Everyone I live with seems to know nothing about computers or networking so asking here is my best chance for success...

First of all ill explain what I can understand of it.
-The internet is wireless, and there are about 30 of us logging in and out all day, peak hours are when most problems arise
-We have three routers in residence that extend the signal.
-The one downstairs is unsecured, but the one upstairs has an encryption (that confused me a little)
-The Network is called USR9108 either secured or not, thats how you know what router your connecting too.
-When I try to connect I see both USR9108 secured and unsecured and then about a dozen... USR9108 2.... USR9108 2 3.... USR9108 2 3 4... and so one.... to about number 12 (I have no idea what those are but you can attempt to connect to any of them)
-Anytime I connect to any of the networks I get five bars of signal but 60% of the time my connection is "Local Only" and i cannot connect to the internet
-When I diagnose the problem there is a problem with the DNS always
-When we are connected the internet drops frequently
(its also super slow but im guessing thats because we are so many leeching off of one signal)
-And I need to disconnect and reconnect many times to finally get one with internet and local connection... often i just dont get internet at all

Anyways can you please explain why all those US... Read more

If you can afford the Intel I would go that way. Intel c2d benchmarks are a good deal faster than that AMD at the moment. If you don't stress a system too much in your daily use, and the AMD system has more features than the Intel sys such as mem, drivespace, etc, then go that way. If performance matters, get the Intel.

Hi everybody, I'm new here but was hoping to get some help with a problem I'm having.

I tried to install the windows 7 rc on my acer laptop. I did it as a clean install over the vista that was there before.

During installation, after the first restart I had a problem though. I got a blue screen saying fatal system error and could not go any further. After some research on here I tried a new windows disc that I had burned at a slower speed and this seemed to fix the problem as installation completed without a hitch when I inserted this new disc.

However the first time I restarted the computer after completion of installation, the same error happened. I'm now stuck as I can't boot up my computer. I've tried booting from both the windows 7 disc as well as my vista disc but just can't get past this blue screen. I'm happy to wipe my hard drive clean if necessary but I don't know how. Anyone got any ideas what I should do next?

Welcome to SF.
As for the problem it might be a BIOS update that will help fix this issue.

my bro bought a new 55nm 9800gtx+ card, stats are here.

BFG GeForce 9800 GTX+ OC 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (BFGR98512GTXPOCE)

However, gpuz seems to list it as 65nm & only having 1125mhz on the memory clock speed whereas its supposed to be 2250mhz???

im slightly worried he may have got a dodgy card

A:GPU-z confusing readout

Regarding the memory don't forget that it is DDR (GDDR3 actually, but the same applies), which is double data rate, which in this case means that it is running at 2250 MHz.

As far as the 55 mm, 65 mm; does he have the latest version of GPU-Z? It could just be a reporting glitch if it is a version that came out before the card did.

Hey guys, before you ask, yes I have searched this, but I'm really tired and I just want to make sure I have it right. I have two routers, a belkin 54g and one of those new belkin N router thingies, I don't think it really matters, anyway... I want to...scratch that...need to connect them together to hook up a music server for a job I am doing. The cable modem is in the garage, and the belkin N router is upstairs. From what I've read, I should connect the belkin 54g first to the cable modem, turn off the firewall in the 54g, then connect the belkin N router to the 54g using a straight cable, going from one of the 1-4 outs of the 54g to the WAN port??? of the belkin N? using a straight cable (I hope). I should also disable the DHPC on the belkin N so that only the 54g is assigning the addresses. And I have to assign the belkin N an address outside of the 54g's DHPC range. Correct? I can't put the belkin N first because it needs to stay upstairs. Don't even suggest it please. ALso, how do I disable the wireless on the 54g, because it is not needed. Will the wireless on the belkin N still work? On top of all of that, I need to run a cable from the 54g in the garage to a switch behind all of the equipment, will the switch still work? I need to hook 2 or 3 things up to it. And no I can't just run them to the 54g because there is only one ethernet cord left to run to the equipment. So...should this work?? Any suggestions to make it... Read more

I have over 200 users on site, all Windows 7 and using IE.

We use a sharepoint website with Collabco.

At around the same time in the afternoon, one specific user is unable to get access to the website, she goes through the various ways of getting there and every time the website hangs.

She can access this all day up until around 3pm.

However, if she goes on Chrome it works fine, unfortunately users arent meant to have Chrome.

Anyone have any ideas of what the issue could be?

I have done all the basics to try to resolve but nothing

Is the low voltage ones for mobiles only?

Look at this link. Apparently, the 330 UM and the 330 M are both mobile.

I've got something causing my computer to randomly attempt infection. Most of my safeguards block it, but I want to make sure I get rid of it.

Here's what I know. The infections come from random files in C:Windows/Temp. I'm running Windows 10 Pro.

Avira has detected hidden files.

Starting search for hidden objects.
[NOTE] The registry entry is invisible.
[NOTE] The registry entry is invisible.

Avast detects Win32:Patcher-AK and Win32:Malware-Gen.

I only have Avira because I wanted to double-check.
I also have Malwarebytes anti-spyware and exploit, Crypoprevent, adwcleaner, tfc, and hitmanpro.

I am running a custom HOSTS file.

The problem is there are a few false positives. If I upload logs, they will show up. I've made trainers for games and because of the way they access memory, they tend to get flagged. Very annoying, but at least I know what's safe and what's not since it's my code.

Is anyone familiar with this new MSN IE Window? I'm frustrated because there is no longer, or I can't find it, the option for the drop-down window showing you the previous URLs that you have accessed. Instead there is just a Search command at the end of the URL address line or window. Also when going to Tools and Internet Options, it won't allow me to change the Home Page address. That option is greyed out!

Try this. In IE, go to View > Toolbars > Address Bar and enable it.

hi. New to the forums and not only hope I can get help, but also contribute....especially since I've learned so much trying to figure out this problem.

Running Xp Pro SP2. Was uninstalling Adobe 7.0 and restarted after the uninstall via the CP's add/remove. i kept getting error messages that the OS couldn't run (can't remember exact wording) but it left me not being able to do anything...hitting enter did nothing. So I booted from the Instal ldisk, and did a chkdsk /r and was able to get bak to XP loading. However, the taskbar doesn't show up (and no, I've tried checking and unchecking the "show taskbat" box in the CP/taskbar and menu area). I cannot drag files around on the desktop, I cannot run software installers, the appearance settings are wacky...they look like Win2k. i've been l o copy a lot of the files from that drive to another drive that I instaled another OS on (XP Pro x64) so that is good. BUt I'd REALLY like not to have to do a complete reinstall.

does anyone have any idea what might be causing me problems? I run anti spy and malware software 2 or 3 times a day, have Avast running all services, dump my cache almost hourly, have used registry cleaners, and even done a repair install/recovery console run...basically everything that sounded like it would help from this page http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repa...Boot%20Sector: and nothing has helped.

I'm at my wits end.

Thanks for your time.

While I was in Add/Remove Programs today to reinstall Norton Internet Security, I saw a couple of things that I plan to ditch. But I also noticed that I have three versions of Java. I know I want to get rid of two of them. I just want to make sure I get rid of the right versions. I assume that I should keep Java 6 Update 11 and get rid of Update 5 and Update 7. Please confirm and that is exactly what I will do.

Are Adobe Flash, Java, & Microsoft Silverlight really needed? I've read conflicting posts about all of them.

Thanks a bunch,

A:Confusing info

I uninstalled Java over a year ago when they started having a lot of security problems. Haven't missed it at all. Silverlight came pre-installed on one of my computers. I went about 6 months and realized I never used it. I uninstalled it as well and that was about 2 years ago.

Adobe Flash is a different story. There are many websites that require Flash in order to view their video content (news sites, YouTube, etc.) So I have that installed on all my machines. And I make it a priority to check for updates on a regular basis because Adobe Flash has also had its share of security issues.

My suggestion is to keep Flash but ditch Java and Silverlight. If you come across a site that needs Java or Silverlight it will only take a few minutes to visit the download site and install. If it turns out you use Java or Silverlight on a regular basis then you might reconsider and leave them installed permanently.

My wife clicked to install a media player from a popup window last night, I am not sure which one but if she consulted me first I would have told her no, and started a cascade of pop ups and installation of icons onto the desktop and system tray. The virus took control of the computer popping up bogus security alerts that directed to some webpages selling an antivirus or antispyware products. I tried to press ctrl-alt-del to cancel what ever virus was running and a pop up window said I do not have administrative rights. After running adaware and search and destroy I was able to remove alot of the problems. Search and destroy asked me to restart computer to remove one of the entries (fraud.xp antivirus) but even after running search and destroy on reboot the entry still cannot be removed. I ran Avast antivirus and found a remove 25 trojan virus (alot of them had vie in the name and an .exe entension). After all of that my computer is behaving mostly normal. The only 2 symptoms left are the inability to remove that entry from search and destroy. The other symptom has to do with internet explorer. If I click on a link while in IE7 the link will redirect me to some site adverstising Antispy or antivirus program and a popup window will warn me that my computer is infected and a triangle with and ! will appear in my system tray.. If I right click on link in IE 7 and choose to open in a new window the correct webpage is displayed. I did run hijack this and also remove... Read more

I recently installed a Crucial M4 128GB SSD into my pc.

I connected to a SATA lll 6.0 Gb/s port on my motherboard.

This drive exists along side my HDD, which is now Drive "F", with the SSD being drive "C". I did not clone or transfer anything to the SSD, installing a fresh copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit from my CD.

I went through all the optimization steps spelled out by the experts both here and on other sites.

I have the SSD selected as the boot drive, but to my disappointment WIndows7 64 bit loads slower than my HDD. I would like to find out why, but I can live with that as long as the drive performance is what it should be.

I attempted to set AHCI in the BIOS, before installing the OS, but each time I selected it, I would get a blue screen which wouldn't leave until I restarted the computer. As soon as I switched the setting over to IDE, the pc booted but as I said, slower than my HDD.

I have attached a screenshot of a result using Crystal Disk Mark.

The top row are the results of the SSD, while the bottom row is the results of my HDD. Although the results are considerably better than the HDD, I have been told that these numbers should be much better and the boot time should be very quick.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

A:SSD Performance Confusing

See if this tutorial helps you to AHCI : Enable in Windows 7 / Vista. You should see a performance increase after enabling AHCI. There should be no blue screens if you follow the tutorial exactly. For your drive, those numbers should be some higher, but I would refrain from running tests for a few days. Too many tests close together can hurt performance. I don't know what 'tweeks' you did, but very few are necessary. Windows will do most of what is needed. I would guess when you changed bios to AHCI you still had your other OS installed, and is why you got the blue screens. Once you change over you should see an improvement. You should have seen a significant improvement already.

EDIT: and if you have the drive connected to a Marvel port, switch it to an Intel controlled sata 3 port (usually port 0-1)

I am running Windows XP SP2 w/ the latest update of IE 6 and Outlook. I connect to the internet through a cable modem. Recently, I have been experiencing a problem, and I'm not sure if it is a software or hardware problem. I can be surfing the web, and all of a sudden, the connection goes completely dead. I can not receive any info (although it appears that my requests are being sent). It has happened on a variety of website (not one in particular). Both IE and Outlook are similarly affected (ie, I can send, but not receive emails during these periods). However, if I leave the computer alone for a few minutes (I usually close all the windows I have open), it will start working again, spontaneously. Of course this typically happens when I'm in the middle of something important, making the problem that much more annoying. I have Zone Alarm as my firewall, and I can see when info is being sent and received. So, that's how I know that I'm sending but not receiving during these incidents.

For some reason, it seems like these problems happen when I'm clicking through multiple pages of a website quickly (not allowing a page to fully load before clicking to the next page). However, it also happens when I'm just reading along slowly and the connection goes dead.

So, what's my problem? Please don't tell me to reformat my hard disk - I will be very sad

As a first, free, go at this problem, find out if you have the correct video card drivers. You could use the free program at www.drivereasy.com to scan your pc.
See if it agrees with the driver you are using. But note that the free version of that program is slow to download files, (on purpose, so that you upgrade), of course you can go to the usual sites, nvidia or ATI normally, and get the driver from them. If you fitted the graphic card, did it show in the instructions about fitting an extra power connector to the card? Some do need more power than the edge connector can give.
