Preferred Solution: Slow, brand new machine, slow upload on internet broadcast

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, One thing sticks out, but there are a lot of other things starting up, you do need to trim startups some...

You have two antivirus programs, Norton and AVG, are both active in the background, starting when the computer does? That alone will cause you problems....use one or the other, save the second, but set it to not run at all when the computer starts...you can do this inside the program itself in almost all cases...look in Options or Settings for the things that are checked to let the program start up and monitor in the background (active protection) and set the one disabled.

I know some folks that work a lot with startup items...you will probably be hearing from some with help for that.

I tried running Copernic a few years ago on what today is an outdated machine and it really bogged things down...used to use a lot of resources that could be better used elsewhere.

Hi everyone,

I just got a new ASUS ultrabook this week that should be quite fast given the config (see config at the bottom). It is fast indeed for internet browsing, video games etc, except all windows related tasks. Main examples:

- Opening a new folder can take 10 to 20 seconds
- Opening windows settings takes approx 15 seconds
- Opening a picture (!) takes approx 15 seconds and can make the computer freeze for a while

Something else I noticed: when I want to check windows updates, it doesn't seem to find any, but it doesn't tell me this; instead it just keeps looking for updates without ever ending.

Also as I said everything not windows related is very fast, I can open 30 tabs on chrome without any problem etc.

I suspect :
- A virus (after a week only??)
- Some of the bloatware ASUS installs by default on their machines

Any help appreciated :)

My config:

Brand: ASUS Zenbook UX302LG
OS: Windows 8 Pro
Processor: Intel? Core? i7 4500U Processor
Memory: DDR3L 1600 MHz SDRAM, 8 G
Graphic: NVIDIA? GeForce? GT 730M 2GB DDR3 VRAM
Storage: 750GB HDD With 16G SSD
Antivirus: McAfee (installed by default, will change it asap)

A:Windows slow on brand new machine

EDIT the processor isn't quick it's only 1.8GHz thats slow by todays standards.

I just bought a low end compaq (specs below) as a 2nd PC but it seems to run fairly slow. A lot slower than my 3 year old Dell with XP. I was wondering if Vista is a slower OS, or the machine is too low end or you should run Vista on something with a little more memory or something.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt

Hi all:

I recently bought an Acer 6530G laptop that came preloaded with Vista *64.

The machine performs ridiculously slow on simple tasks and has since it came out of the box.

What do I mean by slow? For instance, when I'm typing this it's possible for me to type faster than the letters render. It doesn't get horribly behind, but it can get behind. If I hold delete to delete an entire sentence, the lag is very noticeable.

If I'm on a simple chat interface, say the one on facebook, it can become nearly impossible. Letters will appear as much as 10 seconds after hitting the key.

Not exactly resource heavy functions, huh?

The biggest problem I have is video playback. Trying to watch a live streaming Netflix movie is just impossible. It lags like mad - choppy, stilted, etc. The audio is unaffected, only video is impacted in this scenario.

Something weird about this: When I have the Netflix film on the screen, the CPU basically hit 100% and remains. If I leave the movie playing, and minimize the window so I can hear the movie playing, but not see it CPU immediately drops to 30%. When I re-enlarge I get nice playback for ~5 seconds. I'm VERY confused by this - and as you can imagine, VERY frustrated.

Now, to add to my frustration I can do ALL these things flawlessly on another box in my home - an 8 year old Dell box with XP SP3 and a whopping 256mb RAM.

Why is it then, that a BRAND new machine with 4 gigs RAM, and a faster processor does FAR... Read more

I'm currently trying to get an importnt postion for a job but it requires a upload speed of 635-640.But my computer upload speed is currently 437.10 ,what can literally make my upload speed run faster? PLEASE HELP ME FIX THIS ISSUE,THANKX!*

A:slow upload speed from internet

Ultimately the upload and download speeds you get are determined by your Internet connection. You need to contact your ISP to find out the normal upload speed for your connection. If your speed is substantially slower than this your computer or other hardware may have issues. But in most cases you would need to buy a faster connection from your ISP.

Hi,

I have a weird issue that I hope someone can help with.

I have a Business Network connected to XLN Telecom FTTC Fibre, going through the BT Openreach Modem and a Netgear WNDR4500 Router. The Router then connects to a Netgear ProSafe Switch.
I have about 12 XP Desktops and Notebooks on my network (business so need XP really).

Recently the Microsoft Security Essentials program started crashing the PCs and hanging on the welcome screen, so I just removed it, and all was well.
A few days later ALL the XP PCs have experienced seriously slow UPLOAD Speeds when doign a Speed Test. The Fibre but it has always been slow, around 8mbps download and 2 - 4mpbs upload. On the XP machines I am getting 5mbps download but only 0.01mbps upload, with a ping of about 300ms.

Gmail and most websites work okay, but secure websites such as eBay and my website CP go really slow or time out. Some websites are also very slow, but if you us IE InPrivate or Chrome Incognito they seem to work much faster.

I thought it was the line, so changed router, factory reset modem, bypassed all the network (connecting a PC directly to the modem and router), had the ISP do line checks.
BTOpenreach have been and tested the line and equipment (they said everything seemed fine) but changed the Filter in the socket and the Modem to the latest design.

I have also tried a few virus and malware tools to make sure it is not a virus (which would be strange on ALL the PCs at the same time anyway)

Greetings folks! Very glad I stumbled across this website. I'm having issues with my new desktop computer that I bought from IBUYPOWER. The issue is slow/intermittent internet. Seems like a lot of 8.1 people are having internet problems.

Computer specs are as follows:
-AMD 6300 Six Core Processor
-8GB Ram
-64bit operating system, x64 based processor

Router:
SSID: CenturyLink****
Protocol: 802.11n
Security type: WPA2-Personal
IPv4 address: 192.168.0.17
IPv4 DNS Servers: 192.168.0.1
205.171.2.25
Manufacturer: Ralink Technology, Corp.
Description: 802.11bgn 1T1R Wireless Adapter
Driver version: 5.1.2.0

From Speedtest.net I consistently get this number (usually worse)
-PING : 39
-MBPS Download: 2.43 (consistently this low highest ever was 3, been down to .08 even)
-MBPS upload: .60

On my girlfriends old shitty laptop she is getting 11mbps no problem. Same speeds plugged in or wifi. My phone gets great speeds as well. My older laptop also got much better internet speeds and it was at least four years old.
Spoke to internet provider, they said everything is fine.

-Ran CCleaner, Malware bytes, Norton. Nothing comes up and I have literally had this computer 2 weeks.
-Set all power saving features to performance mode.
-Uninstall/Reinstall Wifi Driver.
-turn off bluetooth things.
-disable roaming sensitivity on wireless driver manager
-set to entertainment/gaming on wireless driver manager.
-router is up to date
-router placed closer to computer (don't think its router consider... Read more

A:Windows 8.1 Extremely Slow Internet Brand New PC

Download and run Shaperprobe. ShaperProbe It will show your true speed from your provider. Do not worry so much about ping time. Think of Ping time like standing in a tunnel at one end and someone else at the other end. Then yell something at them. The time it takes from you yelling something to the other party hearing what you yelled is what can be described as Ping Time. Same concept if you think of how Radar works. The farther away something is. The longer it takes for your computer to get a response.

Your machine is pretty fast. Computing power will run circles around anything out there, if you do video editing or picture editing. As for the Internet, it is all about provider speed, congestion, how much the server you are trying to connect to is being used by others, etc..

The internet on my new Dell Inspiron N5110 (opened on 13th April 2012) is much slower than my internet on my 4-year-old Dell Inspiron 1525. Occasionally, it will run fast but then lose it again. Why is this and how do i solve this problem?

I have tried using a different internet browser (currently using Google Chrome) and disconnecting and reconnecting. I have run scans to check for viruses and I have run hardware checks. I have also tried running the same youtube video on my old and new laptops at the same time...my old laptop played the video straight away whilst my new one didnt play it at all!

And its Sunday so of course Dell Tech Support are not open!

I would really appreciate any help you could give me! Thanks!

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan. This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute filesI would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Hi guys. Recently bought new HP laptop, ran into problems since day one.I took it back thinking it was maybe a problem with the computer itself, so I exchanged it for another one but the same model type. These are the issues I ran into:First laptop:1. Downloaded Chrome first up, that worked fine. Tried to download iTunes, download become interupted at 12% (after many clean attempts to download it) every time. Exactly 12%.I tried Microsoft edge, and would get to 10% before the download was interupted. Again, 10% every time. 2. Thinking it was an update issue, I tried updating the computer with all the Windows updates. Couldn't complete any of the installations. I would get an error saying "Installation complete: Failed to install". 3. Even tried turning off Firewall, turning off/uninstalling McAfee (partially because they did an antivirus deal with it, which I wouldn't have bought if I knew the computer already had an AV!), still didn't work. 4. Tried system restore a few times, nothing fixed. Watching YouTube would work fine for maybe 15 minutes before webpages would load all the way to a crawl, before evnetually failing to load. Restarting the computer would fix the problem for another 15 minutes, before the cycle began again. Took the laptop back and exchanged for the same model. Laptop 2 issues:1. Again, can't properly download iTunes. Interuptions at 10% again using Microsoft Edge. But that's if the download would eve... Read more

I have a brand new computer I assembled myself with some of the newest parts available.
I also just recently got a new ISP, the speed is up to 18mbps.
My laptops are all connected through wireless and are getting anywhere between 15-18mbps while my desktop which is connected with an ethernet cable is getting around 6-7mbps.
I have all the latest drivers and did scans with Bitdefender and Advanced System Care and there were no problems with viruses/malware/etc.
Also, I'm not running any bandwidth consuming programs (uTorrent, etc).
I have 8GB of RAM, Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

What seems to be the problem?

Do you and your girlfriend have same ISP, and same internet subscription packages ?
What kind of internet connection do you have ?
If you are getting very slow speed than advertised by your ISP, then call them now.

Hi, I have a brand new Windows 8 Dell Inspirion laptop, and it has a horrible internet connection. I have not downloaded any new programs and I don't visit shady websites so I don't think it's a virus. Sometimes the internet is just moderately slow, and sometimes it just completely won't move, I will type in a web address and it will "think" about loading the page for 20 minutes before finally telling me it can't.

The problem is not with my wifi, I have another laptop that runs Windows 7 and have no issues with that one, or any other device on the network. It's just the windows 8 laptop.

I tried to google this and it seems like a common problem in new windows 8 machines. I am starting to think I should have just shelled the extra cash for a mac. I am almost entirely computer illiterate, so I had a very hard time following the various threads about this issue and I really need someone to walk me through it like I'm your great grandmother.

I have Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160
I tried updating the driver, but it tells me the driver is already up to date.

A:Brand New Laptop EXTREMELY slow internet connection

Welcome to Eight Forums,

Have you tried connecting your laptop to another Wi-Fi networks/hotspots? See if the issue persist.

Also, since you are using a dual band Wi-Fi adapter, try fiddling with the band setting. Is the router you're trying to connect also a dual band technology?

Intel E2160 1.8ghz dual
2gb of RAM DDR2 5200
brand new Win 7 64 bit installation, all updates to SP1
IE 11

I upgraded my mom's computer from Vista to Win 7. It is an older machine that I bought her back in 2008 I think....I know that the RAM is on the low side, but I think there is some other sort of problem going on here.

It is like something is blocking web pages from loading....they do eventually, but browsing is very slow. Opening IE is quick as is loading up programs etc...not indicative of a "slow computer" or running out of resources.

Once IE is open it probably takes google 30-60 seconds to actually appear......but once it is up, the search is very fast like you would expect. Going into a webpage is also very slow. It is like the initial page load is slow and then searching is normal speed.

I turned off the windows firewall, but couldn't think of anything else. I noticed that the CPU usage and RAM usage are high going above 50% at times, but I found google results of people using Win 7 on even older, slower machines.

Any idea?

A:Internet browsing very slow after brand new installation of 64bit Win7

With 2 GB of RAM you would be better off with 32 bit.

Try another DNS server. "ipconfig -flushdns" afterwards - https://www.google.com/url?q=http://...6z2aXNcEi7K-Fw
Try a clean startup, it should help with RAM/CPU - Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

We just bought this new laptop less than a week ago and we've been having issues with internet connectivity ever since.  The internet will randomly slow down even when the connection is shown to be full or almost full. When we have these spells it can take 45-90 seconds for a very simple webpage to load. These spells generally last from 2 minutes to an hour or so, although we had a problem for most of the day yesterday. We have Webroot antivirus, so I don't think it's a virus. We assumed it was our internet and contacted the provider who came out and replaced the router. We're still having problems with occational very slow page loading. We have Windows 8 and the computer is a Dell Inspiron 15 3521. We generally prefer Firefox. I went to the Dell website to see if any drivers needed updating, but it's not showing anything relevent. Any ideas would be very much appreciated!

A:Brand New Dell Laptop with internet loading slow even with full bars

Hi soozabelle, The internet will randomly slow down even when the connection is shown to be full or almost full. "Randomly".... caught my attention.I am assuming you are connected by wireless. How do you have your network set up? Modem to router and connected to router wireless?Have you ever had any other computers set up via wireless before? If not, there is a strong possibility that your router is not secured and someone may be piggybacking on your connection which can, and will, slow your connection down drastically when someone "randomly" decides to take advantage of your unsecured connection. Kinda like turning on more than one faucet in your home and you lose water pressure throughout the house. That is the first thing I would look into. Check that and let us know.If that is not the problem, other members may have some advice as well, so please stay tuned! ;)Donna

Hi all. I've looked through the various forums for my specific problem and haven't been able to find anything useful. My problem is that my new build (about 2 months old) is having slower and poorer wireless connection to the router. It has gotten to the stage where connection is very intermittent, and when connected can take 5 minutes to open an email. The specifics are;
the problem machine is entirely new; no component has been used before in another machine. All drivers are current. Virus and Malware checks are clear. I am operating Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
It is not the router; there are 3 computers being served by the one router, and only this machine is having trouble. The other 2 machines are laptops, one running Vista and my laptop which is running Windows 7 Home 64 bit.
It is not reception; the problem desktop gets as good or better reception than my laptop when placed side by side, yet just this afternoon while I was looking through these forum pages it was taking so long to open a page that I booted my laptop, went through the whole start up, logged on to this forum and opened three pages before the desktop had completed opening a single page.
I uninstalled the drivers for the wireless card (ASUS card) and reinstalled them. It worked great for 2 hours, then disconnected again.
Sometimes data transfer is very good, just lately the 'good' times amount to maybe half an hour a day; the rest is just frustration.
Any thoughts?

A:Slow wireless internet on one specific windows 7 machine

It could be an antenna issue. Most wireless cards have there antennae fixed on the back, and this can lead to intermittent problems simply because there is a large mass of grounded metal (the computer case) in close proximity. The solution is to fit an extension cable and mount the antenna away from the case. Even on top of it is much better than behind it, as the shielding effect of the case will be greatly reduced by this simple measure.

Hi there,

I have a network on linksys befw11s4 router. It has a wired desktop, a wireless laptop with xp, my small netbook with ubuntu and since recently a new laptop running windows 7 64 bit. For all the computers except the newly added win7 machine, the connection is fast. The new laptop, however, experiences 25% of packets loss every other time i do the ping test. When I use skype, it reports the connection is slow.

The firmware on the router is up to date. When I connect the new laptop through the wired network adapter, the connection is very fast. I tend to think it's some incompatibility between wireless network adapter on my windows 7 machine and the router. Is there anything I can do to improve the connection?

Thanks!
Vishi

A:slow wireless internet on windows 7 64 bit machine and befw11s4 router

Since it's a wireless issue from the sounds of it, let's start here.

Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework.
To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

For some odd reason, in the past 4 weeks, my streaming video has become VERY slow, and I do not know why. I have a high-speed cable connection, the same I have had for the past 6 months. It is slow, sound-with-stil-images and/or constantly rebuffering, and this is true with WIndows Media, Winamp, Realplayer and even Flash videos (on YouTube for example). I cannot take it anymore. I tried this Hijackthis thing, and this is my log:

Running older PC Clone 2.0 Ghz Dual CPU Pentium, 1GB Ram Win XP Home Edition system.

While navigation on Internet Explorer or Google Chrome, system runs extrememly slow and/or crashes. When using applications such as Itunes, Email, or simply opening up Word and other applications, it runs very slow and almost seems to stop. The IE7 that was on the computer had changed to an operate with add-ons off as a result of the infection. I downloaded and reinstalled IE7 and this seems to have fixed that problem for the time being. MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpy icons dissappeared from my desktop. When trying to use them from the Start / Menu options the programs no longer worked. I reinstalled them and they appear to work fine now. However, the system still seems to run very slow over all and its performance is greatly hindered.

Next, I ran free version of SuperAntiSpyware and all it detected was a couple Adware cookies. Secondly, I ran free version of Malware Bytes Anti-Malware and it detected PUP.GamePlayLab infections located in the Registry Key: HKLM\SOFTGWARE\Microsoft\Windows.... These files were removed and quarantined by MWB. Thirdly, I ran Old Timer's TFC and then rebooted the computer and it appeared to run a little faster, but still sluggish while using IE7. So, finally, I ran ESET Free Online Scanner, and it detected "Win32/Toolbar.Babylon and Win32/TopMedia.a" virus infections. Scan took about 2 1/2 hours. I set it to search the drives/ar... Read more

Hi MaryJane,Sorry for the delay, this forum is really swamped right now. I don't see any positive signs of malware in your log, although there is one thing that I am unsure about. I'll get to that in a minute. Before we do rootkit scans and use some other tools to confirm that malware is not the problem, let's do a quick check of resources.Press <Ctrl>-<Alt>-<Del> to open Task Manager, then click on the Processes tab. Place a check next to Show processes from all users. Note the numbers at the bottom, CPU usage should be running at 0 to no more than five percent if your system is idle (no background tasks running). If that is not the case, scroll down and see if any of the processes is running at a high percentage of CPU usage. On a normal system at idle the System Idle Process should show about 98 percent, meaning nothing else is using the CPU. The next columns to the right, memory usage and peak memory usage, may also show something out of line if one process is using a large amount of memory. If you see anything showing high CPU usage or high Memory usage, make a note of it.Now, click the Performance tab. The key numbers here are in the Commit Charge box -- The Total and Peak figures; and in the Physical Memory box, the Total figure. Make a note of these three numbers. I would like to see them, but I can tell you what I'm looking for: basically, any time the Commit Charge exceeds the total physical memory, Windows will have to constantly swap d... Read more

But when I'm actually in Windows, it runs as slowly as my old 1GHz machine and sometimes when opening things it has long delays. I thought it might just be Windows being old, so I did a clean install. But that didn't fix it. Now I think it might be one of the hard drives or my cd drives, since at the BIOS diagnostic screen it sometimes hangs at them. Other than scandisk, which didn't return anything, is there a way to find out where the bottleneck is occuring without having to spend money I don't have?

Well, it depends on which OS you have. If it's Vista or XP, then you may want to change the graphics settings so they're lower, because they consume memory.

Very strange situation. A day or so ago, web browsing slowed down. It seems to be the upload that is causing the problem. Here is why I believe that

speedtest.net comes back with normal results for latency and download speed. Locks up when it tries to check upload speed
Can download email fine, but sending (uploading) emails does not work for anything larger than the tiniest email

I have power cycled the cable modem and the wireless router several times. Of course, I have re-booted the computer many times. No change

I have run adaware, spybot and superantispyware which all only found a few tracking cookies. Even when I shut them all down, it is still slow.

A:Slow Upload

I had tried a nearby network as a control source to determine if it was my hardware/software vs. my network. Though it is very low signal (neighbour's unsecured network), I had been able to use it in the past when trying out some things. Now, it was not working. This led me to believe I had a problem with my machine.

I took laptop to a friend's house and tried it on his network. No problems. Brought it home and tried again. No problems. Good news, but can't explain.

Happy that I am back to normal, but worried that I am going to experience degradation again. Any thoughts?

Hi there I'm new to the forums. I couldn't find a topic with the same problem so I'm starting my own thread.

I'm having extremely slow uplead speeds. I've tested it on Speekeast.net, cnet.com and speedtest.net

The average speeds I'm getting are between 1kbps to 28kbps upload

my download speeds seems to be normal around 6mbps

So far in my troubleshooting I've called Comcast, they said everything is fine on their end(one lady said I'm dropping about 10% of the packets sent, I don't think that's normal) I'm connected thru a wireless router but I've hooked up my PC directly to the modem with the same result. I've also hooked up the modem to my laptop with the same result.

I'm running out of ideas on what it could be. I don't think it's my PC or router because I"m getting the same problems without them hooked up. I don't have any background services running that would use internet traffic, disabled my firewall and antivirus, and tried about everthing I could think of.

If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it. I'm at a loss

Not offhand, but I'd talk to the IT folks, there could be a variety of reasons. For what I hope are obvious reasons, we don't get involved in tinkering with company networks.

I am comparing the download and upload speeds (zoomtown) of my work laptop (Dell D620) and home latpop (Sony FW). My Dell is 3 years old, my Sony is fairly new.

Here is the results of the test:
My home laptop: download 3700 kbps; upload: 117 kbps
My work laptop: download 8200 kbps; upload: 2230 kbps

This is about the average I get each time I test.
Both laptops are connecting through the same Netgear g Router.
Both laptops are next to me during the test while the Router is near me.

Does anyone know what is likely causing the disparity?

Thanks much.

A:Slow Download & Upload

It'll likely come down to one of these factors:

1) The NIC driver on the D620 - have you updated to the latest driver?

2) Interference from the anti-virus on the D620. Try to completely uninstall the AV as a test - is there an immediate and substantial increase in speeds?

3) The use of network "optimiser" utilities on the D620 - they've mangled the default settings.

4) Other security or inspection utilities on the D620. Try booting to [safe mode + net] and testing from there.

One key bit of info that's missing is whether the "work" D620 behaves normally at work. In other words, is the sub-par network performance limited to your own home. If so, that points at a completely different set of problems compared to "slow irrespective of location".
