Update to Windows10 ver 1607 is not completed

Q: Update to Windows10 ver 1607 is not completed

When updating to Windows 10 Anniversery Update (1607) everything goes fine till the first restart of the computer.Nothing happens even if you wait for about 8 hours. The screen is blank and the keyboard does not respond. After having turned of the computer and started it again you get the information: "Restore the earlier version of Windows..." (Windows10 for home use).

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just wanted to add my story, similar to above.  Product# F3F15UA#ABA, 10" Pavilion notebook.  Win 10 Anniversary Edition update will not install. Machine gets to 32% and then locks up completely; grey blank screen. Have to unplug and remove battery to shut down.   After powering back, automaticaly recovered to previous version of Win 10 (1511).  Machine now almost unusable since it spends all day re-downloading the update files and then doing an automatic update reboot every evening. This has happened 4 times already; now keeping it in airplane mode.  Was on MS Assure service for hours.  2nd  tier guy said to just wait for MS to come out with a revised version of the update. Tried installing MS registry update fix (MSI) issued 10/5, but did not fix the problem. I have a completely clean machine, all drivers up-to-date, nothing installed except Office 365 and 7-Zip.  Installed Win 10 1511 as a complete replacement (OS and all apps) a few months ago and performance improved tremendously.  Except for this update problem, after the OS replacement PC works very well (for a slow, under-memory PC).  I mainly use it to take to meetings to give PowerPoint presentations, for which it works just fine.  I never do email with it or download apps. Above reply suggests updating from a USB after a image backup.  Can try that to see if I get a better result, but wonder if it would be better to skip "update" and, i... In August I upgraded my Windows 7 Home Premium laptop to Windows 10.  All has worked well for a month now until the Windows 10 version 1607 was highly recommended by Windows10 people. Having kept current with all of the updates faithfully but as soon as I tried (four times) to install Windows 10 version 1607 and then the time-consuming step again of reverting back to the previous Windows version.  So I have hit a brick wall.  I always get the error message: "Low Disk Space".  And Windows continually is reminding me to upgrade to 1607. Like the famous movie, this is a CATCH-22 situation. I read some of the Forum's help and was lead to a link suggested by a HP staffer as the only resolution available.  The link for this Low Disk Space Error problem is http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03736755. I translated the link's Windows 7 instructions into Windows10 style organization of problem resolutions and located the "Files and Folders" section and then followed the Windows 7 steps.  But I still hit a brick wall.  In viewing the hidden files on my Recovery Drive (Drive D I verified that I did not have any personal backup files to occupy space needlessly.  I also cleared out previous System Restores and just did a new System Restore.  But still have the same problem.  It appears I need to expand my Recovery Drive to accomodate Windows 10 version 1607.  But in doing the steps under changing my partitions th... A:Low Disk Space after Windows10 version 1607 upgrade

Clean EnergyGuru Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!First off, once you did the Upgrade to Win10, that corrupted the HP Recovery information, rendering any HP recovery unlikely.  So, at this point, the Recovery partition serves no useful purpose. If you want to remove it and recover the space, then use this link to download the Minitool Partition Wizard boot ISO file:  Best Free Partition Manager for Windows | MiniTool Partition Free Once you have this, you have a choice of media to create:1) If you can boot from CD, download and install ImgBurn and use the Write Image to Disk option to create a bootable CD.2) If you can boot from USB, download and install RUFUS and use the option to create a bootable USB stick from the ISO file. Boot your PC with the media you created. You should now be able to do partition changes without problems. Second, may be folders on your C: drive named $Windows.~BT and $Windows.~WS. These are used by the Upgrade tool to store files needed for the Upgrade. If these are hidden, will have to change your settings in File Explorer to see them, but once you find them, then remove the folders. Also, you need to remove the Windows.old folder.  Here are the instructions:  http://www.howtogeek.com/223821/what-is-the-windows.old-folder-and-how-do-you-delete-it/Once these are gone, you have a lot more free space in the C: drive.Good Luck

I'll give some background.

I have a tri-boot setup. Windows 8 one ssd, windows 7 pro on a second ssd and ubuntu 13.04 on a partition on a 2 gig raid 1. The boot partition is on the windows 7 ssd. All drives are on the same Intel controller. Prior to the 8.1 attempt it worked. I'd boot the w7 ssd and a black win7 style boot screen would appear with the 3 OS choices. I'd been using win 8 as primary since it's release with no real issues.

I updated through the store early today and the process had a hitch after the first reboot but I rebooted and it completed the install. Windows 8.1 started and walked me though an initial setup. Once in, all looked pretty much unchanged. The only issued was it asked me to reinstall some XLan software.

I rebooted to check my other OS's and the problems began. I boot up, it loaded the blue win8 boot screen with all 3 OS present when I attempted to boot ubuntu it went to a black screen with no possible input. Hard rebooting brought up the grub bootloader (not win8 bootscreen) and I was able to enter ubuntu. Same thing happened with win 7 pro. I soft rebooted and the win 8 bootscreen appeared. Choosing win 7 took me to a hung black screen - hard reboot directly started up win 7. Restarting to win 8 bootscreen again and choosing win8.1 took me to another black screen - Hard reboot from there started up a win 8 repair process.

This is always the case with each of the 3 OS's. I have found that I can get into win8 if I enter through safe mode ... Read more

A:8.1 update completed but problematic

I have the exact same problem. I even had the XLan error you described. Once I restarted the computer, it always go to a black screen. I do not have multiple OS's to boot into, but the black screen always comes up after the little blue windows 8 loading screen.

If you get your issue solved, please report back.

Update:

When I tried your suggestion of enabling Debugging, it loaded up. However, 1-2 minutes later it would freeze and I would have to push the reset button on the machine. In Safe Mode, I didn't have any of the freezing, but when I tried to uninstall Norton Internet Security, it would freeze. After a restart, I downloaded the Norton Removal Tool, and removed Norton. At this point, starting Windows 8.1 with Debugging allows me to stay freeze-free. However, trying to start up without Debugging gives me the same black screen.

Another thing to note is that when I have all non-Microsoft services stopped, I still get the black screen upon bootup. I'm not quite sure what Debugging mode does in terms of bootup, but its definitely a workaround for now. I used msconfig.exe to keep debugging turned on for now.

Again, if someone figures out the fix, report back.

A:Windows10 Creators Update Install ?

Windows 10 Creators Update, is the latest version of Windows 10. This is a confusing name, as you don't have to be a Creator to update to this version. In the Past, Microsoft would issue Service Packs, or a version # (ie) Windows 8.1. Now, once a year or so, with Windows 10, they release a New Build# and give it a fancy name, like Creator Update. Everyone with Windows 10 should have this by now, if not, please Run Windows Update and get it. It's a good thing.

I have had to rollback the updates on my windows 10 pc the last four times it has forced me to take them.
Yes, I know about all of the ways to 'try' to avoid the updates or how to stop certain parts (like drivers) from automatically updating but unfortunately I've done it all and none of them work .. for long.
(I have had help and suggestions, tried them all until there just doesn't seem to be any solutions left to try)
On the Home version of Windows 10, Microsoft will eventually 'force' every part of the updates upon you.
I've had to do the rollbacks because Every time the updates are forced, my display gets totally messed up and almost unusable!
I believe the problem is the AMD innards, (Radeon R7 integrated display driver) and everything associated with AMD!
Microsoft and AMD both acknowledge that there is a problem but neither admits that it is 'their' problem! Now the reason for my question!
I have no idea if Microsoft will allow an unlimited amount of these rollbacks, using their rollback feature.
I need a way to continue the rollbacks until (I Hope) the problems with the display is fixed!
RollbackRX allows 7 rollbacks with their free version and unlimited with the paid version.
I can't afford the paid version on any (Acronis etc. etc.) of the software out there so I am looking closely at rollbackRX which claims to be able to get your files from a crashed pc.
Here are the features:Go back to any previous point in time within seconds.

I updated the cert so i have that cleared up but the gateways wont connect.  I updated them manually by downloading the installer and the install went fine but they still wont connect.  I decided to look at the cert thumbprint of the package /

What would i need to get these to connect again?

I have had it with windows 10. I run a home business and my first encounter was that I told the update tool not to install windows 10. Then one morning I went to get ready and when I got back it had installed without my permission. I decided to try it an it has run perfectly through many small and major updates until 1607.

I hangs on the second reboot. Again I did not ask for this update and I have wasted several hours screwing around waiting for a spinning circle for over two hours before deciding it was not going to install. It finally returned me back to my previous Windows 10 version.

I wrote the error code and called Microsoft who said my machine was not Wiindows 10 compat. and their official response on that error was to take no action and if I had purchased Windows 10 my money would be refunded.

How can my system work for months and now be nt Windows compat? Do they not know people use their computers to run business and to force an update to to a non compat system costs people money in lost productivity? Or do they not care which is more like it.

I know on this forum the WIndows Butt-Boys will tell me all the reasons this is a good thing. So take your best shot. But who is going to compensate me and others for lost time and the resulting loss of income?

Fortunately I had an image of my Win 7 load and more time wasted in having to put this back on.

Literally restated my pc 10 times now and it keeps freezing I tried to go back to the old update but it won't even let me do that because it freezes again. So pls for everyone saying you want the new update don't do it unless I have the worst luck in the work. It won't even allow me to use the start button because the circle on the mice start and if I click anything it freezes. The amount of rage in my body is high as a mofo.

Hi, for the last couple of months issues with the anniversary upgrade have been published widely. It's always wise to wait for upgrades, and check on the news.
Try searching for
anniversary upgrade problems
for example.

Since it came out there have been several updates, one of those was supposed to address freezing issues.Microsoft Fixes the Windows 10 Freezing Issues - Windows 10 Forums

Now whether what you are experiencing is addressed by that I can't say.

You have at least the following options:
a. Go forwards: Use Windows update and see if you can get that update. (I think there were a couple before it). See if that fixes things.
b. Go backwards: Roll back to the previous build - available for 10 days.
You can attempt this via Settings; also via SHIFT + left click restart; also by booting from a Win 10 bootable medium

So if one doesn't work for you, try another method.

Hi: I had the same thing happen to my son's PC. He told me that it keeps trying to update, and he has to revert back to the older W10 and it wastes a lot of time. I did not have the time when I was visiting his house, to try and figure out what the issue could be, so I installed the utility to prevent windows from installing updates that mess up the PC. You can do the same by downloading this utility. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3073930/how-to-temporarily-prevent-a-driver-update-from-rei... Run the utility before Windows has a chance to start updating itself again to the anniversary edition. It will scan your PC and show the available updates.  Check the Windows update that is trying to install and that will hide the update and it will no longer bother you unless you run the utility again and select unhide the update. HP will not be releasing any W10 drivers to support your PC, so you may have to live with the status quo.

Please run the Get-WindowsUpdateLog PowerShell command to convert ETW traces into a readable WindowsUpdate.log.

For more information, please visit http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=518345

So I followed the instructions and generated a WindowsUpdate.log on my Desktop - all well so far. Opening it revealed 99% of the entries were of the form:

1601/01/01 00:00:00.0000000 988 5532 Unknown( 10): GUID=638e22b1-a858-3f40-8a43-af2c2ff651a4 (No Format Information found).

Apparently, according to the above 'for more information...' link...

Notes
If you encounter problems decoding the Windows Update log (for example, if you have multiple "GUID" entries that are displayed in the final text log), you may have to delete and then update your symbol cache. You can do this by deleting everyth... Read more

I have skype and camera is Logitec web cam Pro 9000.

Tried playing YOU Tube no sound.

I did not remove any of the speaker connection from the pin at the back of the computer.

You might try disconnecting the audio jack (probably a 2.5mm ring-tip or ring-tip-sleeve connector), then plugging it back in. I've noticed on my own system that when audio drops because of sleep or other issues, this usually sets things back to rights. Just did it right now, in fact, and got my own audio back.

After getting my new laptop a couple months ago, I decided not to do do Windows Updates for fear of encountering the problems of the Anniversary Update that were reported. Now I heard that a fix was finally included and decided to go ahead and allow my computer to update. It downloaded 8 different items successfully, but only 7 of them installed. The one that failed was called something like "1607 Feature Update". I believe 1607 is a number associated with the Anniversary update, although I could be mistaken. But after rebooting my computer after the other updates installed, I don't notice anything different, so it looks like I don't have any new features.

Is the 1607 Feature Update the Anniversary update that was supposed to give us new features? Will my computer still be secure without it? It's mainly the updated security that caused me to do Windows Updates at all.

Yes. It's a big download (3 to 4 GB) and will do a full install taking an hour or so, rather than the quicker patching that Cumulative Updates do.

Absolutely. All security fixes are released in the Cumulative Updates, there's one for each of the versions: the Anniversary Update (1607), the Fall Update (1511) and even the original release (12040). See the Update History here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...update-history

Title pretty much says it. I have browsed some threads here, and haven't found anything specific to this issue, or helpful.

Anyone have any ideas?

[EDIT]
After 2-3 diagnostic attempts, the last one came back with some info. Screen shot uploaded.

Also, I have also found since posting that one of my 2 other computers can be reached by Remote Desktop Connection. The other cannot. Neither comes up when browsing for another PC, or in Network in File Explorer.

During installation i received a BSOD, first 2 restarts went fine, then another one at around 73% i think and BSOD something about system exception not handled. Scanned QR code, damn thing was of absolutely no help at all. Maybe you guys will be able to assist.

*edit* tried again after disconnecting all peripherals and most of the asus software. Still no go, i have the basic O&O shutup 10 settings applied, so yeah, right now i'm stuck on build 1511. 2nd log attached after 2nd unsuccesful install

*edit2* just found this: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...7da47ec?auth=1

seems it might be my avast. As uninstalling that is no option for me (loss of the asus software isn't a biggy), i'll await for their response. In fact there's numerous topics about it. Avast Free/Pro/IS/Premier

I have a concern, I just got an update to MS "feature windows update ver 1607. I won't install, said all the files did not update. When I go back to the update, I still see that it needs to be downloaded and installed again. Is this a good update from Windows on 1/18/2017.
Thanks

If you subscribe to any Streaming music service or have any DRM protected files on your computer, they may not work after the update. Microsoft changed their DRM protection and WMDRM is no longer supported. If you have any of these files on your computer they may not work. This goes for any DRM music or video tracks you may have purchased. A fix is in the works, but may be 2 or more months off. I use Rhapsody / Napster and their software will not support the new DRM protection. Here are links to explain better.

I did a clean install of 1607 on a separate partition and encountered wifi and graphic issues. Unsuccessful searched for appropriate drivers which may be found with further searching.

However, my 3 year old Toshiba is running great on build 1511. Updates to 1511 were received this past Tuesday. And personally, for my needs, 1607 does not bring that much to the table. I did try the new Edge extensions but found the speed performance lacking.

Will older builds continue to receive updates ?

(Toshiba does not support my model for Win10)

Yesterday my laptop was updated to Windows 10 1607. I'm having problems since that update. I now have no folder that simply says pictures...only "saved pictures". Also my virtual keyboard doesn't appear like it did before on start...a small problem, but the picture folder problem is a pain. Can I uninstall this update or do I need to keep it? How do I go about uninstalling it if it's okay to do so.

Hi there

After latest update (using current build 1607) - totally lost LAN capability on Network -- laptop connects via Wifi but not LAN !!!! --LAN adapter - Bog standard INTEL so shouldn't be any problems with it. I have to have LAN at this work gig for security-- I can use private wifi for public access but I have to have LAN for Company network on this gig.

Undid latest updates -- now works perfectly.

C'mon Ms - we all know Networking has always been a weak link in Windows -- just LOCK some of your brightest developers into their offices until they get it TESTED and FIXED - and only feed them on Bread and Water until they do !!!!!!!

I HATE playing this "Will it work or won't it" after an update -- it's OK if you are in a development lab where you can test and play with machines at will but if you've got things to do and the computer updates unpredictably and then doesn't work properly --that's NOT acceptable.

Fortunately (I might be bonkers in some peoples eyes) but I always backup the laptop daily !!! Glad I did this time otherwise no access to company LAN !!! and that would have been a problem waiting for a day or two for them to sort out an old clunky work laptop running at the speed of molassess !!!.

Cheers
jimbo

Hello, I am the owner of a small laptop, an Acer Switch 10, which only have 32GB of SSD memory inside. I also have a microSD *always* in of 128GB, and a normal 500GB HDD on the keyboard, if plugged, of course.

The internal memory has 6GB free right now, and I can't free anymore as windows folder has over 12GB and total usable space is about 19-21GB.

When I try to launch 1607 update with the upgrade tools, it tells me that I need 16GB free, and doesn't give me the option to choose any other device to store the installation.

If I use media download tool it tells me that it needs 8GB and also doesn't give me the option to select another storage.

Is there a way to install this update? Is it impossible? Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance!

A:Not enough space for anniversary update (1607)

Hello, whilst you can manually download an iso and create a bootable medium from it (mounting it would not be a viable option for you given your constraints) bear in mind a copy of much of your Windows folder will be created as Windows.old on your disk.. for possible rollback recovery. That will be there unless you delete it manually for 10 days from the upgrade.

Now people with 100s of Gb spare on C are also getting this message. One possibility is that (I believe) some 450Mb of unallocated space is needed on the disk. I had a quick read around on this and causes seem obscure 'MS is working on it'

However you are tightly constrained.. and one thing you don't want happening is partitions which are part of the Windows environment being created on a different physical disk.

The iso is about 3.08Gb if I recall.

So
a. Manually download an iso and create a bootable medium
b. Research space issues
c. Create a disk image of your working PC for security (Macrium Reflect (free) + its boot medium + external storage
d. Attempt the upgrade.

Note that for 64 bits, MS states 2GbRam + 20Gb hard disk min. Well, my C: is just over 40Gb, no Windows.old, and I have programs installed on D: not C: and data mostly NOT on C: so 20Gb seems very optimistic.
