can't boot from any efi device and can't change bios menu - Lenovo y50-70

Q: can't boot from any efi device and can't change bios menu - Lenovo y50-70

Hello everyone,I had Ubuntu 17.10 and Windows 10 dual boot and were working normally, I formatted the laptop's hard disk outside the laptop and deleted all partitions and returned it back into the laptop...now when I open the laptop it shows me "Ubuntu boot failed" message and when I continue it shows me "Windows boot manager boot failed" message and after I continue it ends up at this screenI tried to burn an iso of windows or linux on a usb or dvd and entered the boot menu it shows the boot from usb option but when I choose it I get boot failed message and the only working option is the "SATA HDD" and I think it works in legacy mode because if I make the bootable usb using rufus and choose gpt for uefi scheme it won't boot I tried to change that from the bios menu but any change in the settings of the bios menu returns back after restarting the only change that stays is the clock and dateAny suggestions to how boot normally in UEFI without getting boot failed ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,
I am having problems with direct booting into Windows 8 installed into a VHDX file.
This is a four-partition UEFI boot on a GPT drive. EFI files are residing on a second partition of disk 0 (the ESP partition) in the EFI folder. The boot virtual disk is residing on the fourth partition of that disk 0.
When I turn on the PC, it shows black screen after the BIOS POST screen. No Windows 8 boot menu, no other information is displayed. However, if I press Shift+F12 (or F12) to start Dell BIOS Boot Menu and choose Windows Boot Manager from the UEFI part of
the boot menu, Windows 8 starts to boot without difficulties.
How do I make Windows to boot automatically without having to select Windows Boot Manager in DELL BIOS boot menu?
I believe I messed up with boot sector somehow... What needs to be fixed provided that Windows 8 will boot into VHDX file?
Thank you.

Well this is the world we live in And these are the hands we're given...

My computer completely locked up while playing a game and I had to do a hard reboot. Now I continuously get the error:

"Reboot and select proper Boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"

The only thing I can manage to pull up is the CMOS Setup Utility. Looking through the menu I found the Boot sequence menu; however, the only device listed is cd/dvd and I read that hard drive should be listed.

Any ideas on a possible problem?

I am thinking that my hard drive might be shot because I am almost positive it is not due to loose cables. On the other hand I was thinking that it could possibly be due to a virus because I had found a Trojan earlier with my virus scanner.

Appreciate any feedback I can get.

Hi N_A,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the Lenovo Community,

I?d like to guide you in a way to try to set the HDD (Hard Disk Drive) inside the BIOS to be the first priority booting order so we will try to return the BIOS to factory default settings:

Step1: Please turn off the machine and then at the left side you can see the NOVO button which is the button with the curve arrow

Step2: Press on the NOVO button and then you will get option press on BIOS Setup

Step3: Please press on FN+F9 together and then press Enter on Yes option and then FN+F10 to save and exit and then press Enter

Hope the information helps. Let us know.

hi sivasandeep99,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If you have tried FN+F2 when boot?
Or holding down Shift and clicking restart?
If those steps did not work either,  You might need to contact Lenovo Technical Support and have the system shipped to Repair Facility for BIOS Reflash.

Found this article but it is for the same model that has same issue like yours.

Hello! I am a happy owner of Lenovo p50, but i got couple of questions. Firstly, Intel Xeon CPU E3-1505M v5 @ 2.80GHz should have a maximum clock speed of 3.7ghz, but thats not the case. The higher i see it goes is ~3.4ghz. I use Piriform Speccy. I tried some CPU stress tests etc, but the result is around 3.4ghz max clock. The Second question is why my bios menu is all greyed and i cannot change any setting. Yesterday i upgraded the BIOS to the latest N1EET60W (1.33 ) and today i tried to visit the BIOS to check some CPU related settings, but i found that almost every setting is locked and i cannot access it. It might be a security mechanism, but before i enter the menu i got promted to scan my fingerprint so i guess that should be it.

Greetings:
I installed a new backlit keyboard on my previously non-backlit e6430 and now not only doesn't the pointer stick and its click buttons no longer works but even the Pinter Stick enery in the Dell Pointer Device panel is now missing. Everything else in the keyboard works and ribbon.cables are fine. Neither Dell Support Assist nor Dell Feature Enhancement nor Dell Unifying app mention or "see" the stick on a full diagnostics checkout, so either the stick a malfunction or a "dummy". I want to run all my opinions before I might send it back. If my e6430 didn't come with a backlit keyboard nor meant to have one, could it be that the new backlit keyboard is being lit by (hijacking) the power circuit intended for the pointer stick? Is there a way I can check the BIOS and have it find and activate the stick? Could I download any older pointer stick drivers and see if that does the trick?
Any advice most appreciated!!!

Having problem with son's HP desktop.  When it boots, press the Esc key, get a boot menu. But ... unable to select ANY of the items.  Keyboard is not recognized when in this menu. Tried several different keyboards -- same symptoms on all. Also, despite having the CD/DVD device first in the boot order, when have bootable CD or DVD in the drive, see the text come up to press a key to boot from that device, but it does not boot from the disk, instead it puts up a message about booting from the system -- and once again, the keyboard(s) appear to be nonfunctional at this point. Product number: XX094AV Looked on the HP site to see if there is a BIOS update, but there is no BIOS listed. Could use some help on this. thanks

I errantly switched the BIOS setting from Raid-AHCI to IEDI while attempting to allow my system to recognize a newly installed SSD.  The plan was to clone my HDD to the SSD as the boot drive, but it wasn't seen in windows.  Initially, was able to see it in the BIOS settings.  Long story short, I switched from Raid-AHCI to IEDI and have not been able to boot the PC since.  On boot, the pc turns on and the fans for the power supply and NVIDIA cards spin, but there is nothing visual taking place on the monitor. It's as if the devices are getting power, but the motherboard doesn't know they are there.  Tried clearing the CMOS (unplugged, took out CMOS battery, held reset button) and that didn't seem to make a difference.  There is supposed to be a "recovery" jumper on the MB (E15), but the pins seem to be missing on my motherboard, so that's not an option.  I'm pretty sure that if I can get the MB back to Raid-AHCI mode, it should respond for me again.  Unfortunately, without access to the BIOS on boot, I have no idea how to do that.  Any and all suggestions are welcome.  Thanks in advance.

So i was playing Doom 3 and the game crashed so badly that i had to restart my computer (im running Vista 64bit by the way) and upon restarting it, it gets to the BIOS screen but after that it just goes black and nothing happens, i have tried the F8 thing but all that brings me to is this boot menu, but not advanced boot options, i have also tried pressing F8 or F5 after i selected hard disk from that boot menu, still nothing happens. So i cant access "restore to last good system configuration" because F8 doesnt take me to the right menu to do so. Also i dont have a vista install disk so am i SOL and have to just get another disk or upgrade to windows 7? or is there some other way to do this? Any help is appreciated!

A:Cant boot past BIOS screen, no Advanced boot options menu

Let's first see if this is a hardware problem. Try these free, bootable diagnostics:

After installing Ubuntu 16.04 LTS  I was unable to reboot into the newly installed system nor access the one time boot menu from F12 or the BIOS from F2 keys after the DELL logo and bar completed itself and displayed F12 and F2 in the bottom corner of the screen.
I can access  the ePSA Pre-boot System Assessment using CTRL Fn held down at boot.    I have run it twice, returning no faults.   Tapping the F8 key at boot has no effect.
Any help would be very much appreciated, thank you.

I guess the title says it all. I have tried to change boot mode and priority into legacy, but it didn't work. And i can't really find the diagnostic option, only Normal boot, Boot setup, Boot menu and Recovery.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

I have moved your post to it`s own thread.

is your hard drive recognised in bios?

if not, check that the cables attached to your hard drive are properly connected.

If they are and you still can`t boot, try changing your hard drive IDE cable and see if that helps.

I went into my BIOS and wanted to play with some security functions. I added a password for system boot, master password, and user password. All having identical passwords. I save and restart, then pops up the system password prompt. I enter and bypass, then comes another prompt which was weird to me. I enter the same password since I only entered one password. No access. What's locked is my harddrive. This is a laptop by the way. I tried typing in different combinations (just in case I fat fingered) but no luck. I spent a lot of time on it even though after two failed attempts, you have to restart. I removed the hard drive and made it into an external drive and tried to see if  I could reformat the drive but it is in a state where it's not accessible (I believe due to the password). I've tried through linux (gparted and parted) and windows tools (disk manager, chkdsk, and others can't remember right now) but they all give me an input/output error--not able to read the drive. Something to note is that the computer recognizes the drive but doesn't display the partitions. It just says it's unallocated and not initilized. I cannot partition the drive, nor can I initialize it because it cannot access it. I tried booting my computer from a fresh USB win10 install to see if I could format the drive that way but I kept getting the error that I could not install windows via USB. Something to point out is that every other computer will recognize the harddrive externally but ... Read more

Since I choose my ideapad for its elegant and refined design, the hideously embarassing boot logo that popped up at start up came as a really bad surprise. So far, I can't really think of coping with that for the entire life cycle of my PC. I'm therefore looking for a way of replacing it with a much nicer alternative Lenovo logo, any other one would look much better...  This issue has been discussed already for the Thinkpad and other Lenovo notebooks, but none of the proposed solutions seem to be compatible with the Ideapad serie and they all sound far too industrious. Can someone let us know of a step-by-step method of achieving this on an Ideapad 320 without having to dismantle the whole PC?     Thanks for your help.
