Acer 7720G Charging Lights Flashing Orange/Deeper Orange

Q: Acer 7720G Charging Lights Flashing Orange/Deeper Orange

Sometimes when I plug in my laptop to the mains the charging light goes to orange to signify it's charging the battery. After a period of time it goes off, and starts flashing like this:
This is whilst it's turned off. When it's turned on the power button light starts flashing orange and a darker orange.

It seems to happen sporadically. One day it'll be fine, the next it won't.
I've put a voltmeter on the charger plug and that reads 18.5volt whilst plugged to the mains. When I plug the charger in and place the voltmeter on the negative and ground connectors for the battery it reads 0.8volts.
The battery works, I've recently replaced it because the old one died. I've also checked that when fully charged with the voltmeter and that works as specified in the user manual (found at http://www.2shared.com/file/3900367/f777f80e/SG_AS7720_7720G_BOOK.html?s=1)
Whilst it is like this the battery does not charge and the computer runs as if it were on battery power, not plugged in, whilst the lights flash. When I remove the plug it stops flashing and the left light shows a solid green, as does the power button light.

Does anyone know what these lights are supposed to indicate? It makes no mention of it in the guide.
Thank you for your time,

P.S. the missing key still works, it's just missing. I've not gotten round to get a replacement keyboard.

Hi, my V3 371 558L's power light (that's the light next to the bulb icon on the laptop) has started flashing orange.  The battery is fully charged and the Acer Care Centre app is returning good battery health.  Any ideas why this has started flashing and how to stop it? Thanks Mark

hello, all... it is in yet another time of need that i turn to you ...my notebook (dell inspiron 1525, about 1 year old) started showing signs that its battery might be warn out - when it was not plugged in with its adapter, within a few minutes it would without warning go into sleep mode and upon trying to turn on, warn me that the battery was at a critical low...

now, today it had been on for a while in a summer-hot room and it was only when i tried to put it to sleep to ~reduce~ the burden on it, the battery light started flashing orange (the warning that your battery is in trouble, 4 times quick, 1 blue flash) and nothing - not turning it off, letting it cool, would make it stop
...it does come back on but i don't foolishly think it's going to last! the battery meter also says, instead of 100%, now 99% and will not go up... (my father's notebook battery meter is always stuck on ***74%*** even if allowed to charge, and it's been this way since turning it on for the first time... so i'm not sure what is causing that...)
the only time the orange light did go out was when i UNplugged the adapter but as soon as i plug it back in, that happens again ...and if i leave it unplugged for too long, the system will go to that critical low situation again and this time it won't be able to re-charge either. based on your experience and expertise, do you think the problem is most likely the battery (and/or the adapter cable? or the a/c connector port?) ne... For last 1 week my Acer ES1-511-C1UU is not charging and start blinking the orange LED. I've followed the previous discussions and tried to do all the things. But even after reset the battery, open and check all the connections by voltmeter (including the charging port, battery connection in the motherboard & adapter). Now the problem is the adapter is showing a voltage of 19.19 volts (which seems the adapter is ok), but the battery connector in the motherboard is showing only 3 - 4 volts. Now kindly suggest me how to get rid of this problem.  I am from Bangladesh and here we don't have any Acer distributor to support me on this issue.  Waiting for prompt support please.

I had recently purchased a new modem, the motorola model because the old 2wire one was busted, and tech support told me I had to get a new one. So no problem, when I got the new modem everything was working fine like it used to be.

So I'm browsing the internet minding my own business with my Netgear Rangemax WNR834B router and the brand new motorola modem on Windows Visa, then all of a sudden, the connection stops working.

I look over to my router, and what do I see? Orange lights! However it's only temporary, in about 5 or 10 seconds or so it reverts back to its original green lights. Then it works perfect again, no problems.

However it occasionally comes back with orange lights every few minutes, dropping my connection every now and then, and it's getting real annoying. I can't watch a Youtube vid without it not loading up in the middle of it, we can't play online games because our connection randomly drops, it's very frustrating.

Can any of you good people throw anything out there to help my situation?

Yesterday my laptop charging light started flashing orange when I plugged in the adapter. (I have to keep it plugged in because the battery dies very quickly) I unplugged the adapter, took out the battery, and held the power button for 30 seconds. It stopped flashing after I replaced the battery and plugged in the adapter....until this morning. Same exact thing! If I use the adapter without the battery, it doesn't flash and works great. What should I do?

I started my inspiron today and the battery light was flashing orange, no other colors. I restarted my computer and it works just fine, the only problem being the light still flashing. I plug in the adapter and the battery panel says it's not charging. All my settings that usually change when charging (brightness, wallpaper slideshow changing) change just as normal.
Everything else is working fine, and as of now my battery doesn't even seem to be going down. I'm not entirely sure what's happened-- my computer has been sitting in my room since I last used it last night, so it's not like any hardware could've been damaged from transporting it.
Anyway if I could get some advice that would be awesome.

Dell Dimension 8300 bought new a few years back, still has all original hardware, running XP home version 2002 with SP2, has P4 3.00 Ghz and 1 GB RAM (stock), Seagate 120GB HD model ST31200026AS, NIC card is Intel PRO 100 VE, built into the motherboard..
Problem is intermittent access to internet. Spoke with tech at Time Warner, IP address is good and can be seen with ipconfig on cmd screen. Problem is can't ping any sites when problem is present. Did a system restore from when it last worked consistently, resynced the modem and after that it worked (last Tues. night), then on Weds morning it didn't work again. Weds night it was working again.

Question is: what do the lights mean on that card? There is a steady red and two flashing oranges. No sign of a green light.
I was thinking I should put in a new basic NIC card in a slot, but wanted to find out what the lights mean first.

(the battery was also stuck at 68 percent and didn't go up or down). I'm not really that concerned because it broke within the first days of warranty. Anyways is there any kind of solution?

I just replaced the battery in my Inspiron B120.  I was told to condition the battery by letting it run out and then charging it fully three times.  On the second time of charging it I noticed the battery light starting rapidly flashing orange while it was still plugged in.  It was solid green to begin with (per the manual), then flashing green (also per the manual), but then started flashing orange.  I unplugged it and it stopped.  It had charged the battery to 98% when I turned the computer on, so it seems that it's properly charging.  I never had the orange light come on with my first battery, this is completely new and I have not been able to find any answer to why it's doing it.  The manual indicates that it should flash orange when the battery is low and not plugged in.  For me, the computer is plugged in and charging and the orange light comes on.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Is there something wrong with the new battery I bought?

I had the same issue.  Upon booting my computer I got a message saying the battery was no longer charging so I needed to update the bios driver.  I did that and it started charging again.  Google bios driver update for whichever your computer model and download the update.  After you run it and accept the terms of service, it will update automatically and you should be able to charge again.  I know this is six years old but this info is for anyone who is currently having this issue.  You may not need to replace the battery at all as I thought I might have to.

Today my neighbor asked me to go over to his house and fix his computer. When i got there he told me it was the power cable that was the problem ( since he doesn't know much about computers) Well the problem with the computer is that all it does is flash an orange light consecutively were the power button green light should be. He recently installed a new CD/DVD drive i so i thought hey that might be the problem but it wasn't. I unplugged the drive and the orange light continue flicker. I then tried to hold the button for a long period of time But it would not shut off. I then decided to unplug the computer directly from the power source in an attempt to stop the light and maybe have the computer boot but it didn't. If i haven't elaborated enough yet i will tell you that the computer will not boot at all no fans are moving nothing. You can see the motherboard have power cause i see the green light indicating the 5 volts but that is it nothing runs but the green light on the motherboard and the DAMNED flickering orange light. if anyone has any suggestions it would be a great help thank you for your time.

Hello everyone --

I have not got a clue about how to approach this problem, so I hope that someone out there can give me some direction.

Here's what happens: Using Outlook 2003,
(1) I open an e-mail message
(2) I hit the reply all button and begin composing a reply;
(3) I need to check a date, so I shrink the reply and the original message;
(4) I click on the Calendar tab and begin innocently clicking on various dates;
(5) THEN . . . while I am looking at the Calendar, the tray icon for my draft reply begins to blink orange in a warning fashion;
(6) THEN . . . the tray icon goes an ominous solid orange and the program freezes.

Why is this happening? Can anyone tell me why and what to do?

Thanks so much.

I was using my Dell XPS 14z today and the battery light started blinking orange 4 times then white once. It stated that my battery had crashed was no longer charging. I read here that that might be a bios problem so I updated my BIOS to the current one for my system and that was a A06 (according to this website). After flashing the new BIOS, the problem persisted. The Next recommendation was to remove, wait, then replace the battery, but there is no way to remove the battery from this unit.

My battery health check says it is working normally. However, it is not charging and is still slowly draining even on the AC adapter. Any help?

I had a very similar situation with my Dell XPS 14z. I've got installed A03 bios though.
On startup It said the message:
"This battery charging is temporarily disabled. Press F2 entering BIOS Setup Menu, Battery Status for details.
Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run setup the utility"
To fix it, I entered the BIOS Menu with F2 -> Advance -> Charger Behaviour -> Disabled
Hopefully the problem will go away in my case!

Hi, I'm new to the forums so I'm not sure if this is in the right section but on my old Dell Inspiron 8600 the battey led light keeps flashing orange 4 times followed by a green light. I've read that this is caused by a faulty battery cell. However, since this model is so old it would be a waste of money to buy a new battery. Is there a way to fix it so that this doesn't happen without buying a new battery or taking the battery out of the laptop? Is there a registry fix or what not that will sort out this problem or will I have to shove my battery in the fridge (an answer to someone else's post on another forum)? Thanks

I bought a Dell Dimension 8400 last year and it's great up to a point.
Occasionaly it will refuse to boot and will just display an orange flashing light on the box. I then have to hold the power button on to power off completely.
It does this when I haven't used it for a few days, when I've just used it for a few hours and other random times.
It also sometimes just dies when I am using it - sometimes after a few hours, sometimes after a longer time. It will then go into refuse to boot mode as above.
I try and boot again and after a seemingly random number of times, usually as I'm about to hurl it out of the window it will boot up quite happily. It does not perfom chkdsk or any other diagnostics at this time.
I have scanned with AVG virus scan - no viruses. I have used adaware and Spybot remover so the machine is clean of spyware.
I have used Dell's hardware diagnostic software and the machine appears to be clean.
Is there anything else I can try please??????

Here's a quote from another post of mine. Please follow the directions in it and let us know what error messages that you find.Next, please go to Start...Control Panel...Administrative Tools...Event Viewer. Once EventViewer opens there will be 3 categories listed in the left hand pane (Application, Security, andSystem). Please click on each one (in turn) and view the messages for that category in the righthand pane. Look for any error messages around the time of the last problem. Then right click onthe error and select "Properties". In the window that opens will be a text description of theerror - please copy it down and forward it to me. The error text should generally be in the format of 0x0000007a - with the last 2 letters'numberschanging depending upon the error. Also, usually another 4 sets of these numbers follows theerror message - they are important also. Finally, at times there is a file name mentioned withthe error message - please let me know what it is.If there are too many errors to choose from, please let me know and we can proceed a bitdifferently. Also, generally speaking, the usual location for this type of error will be in theSystem category - but there is a possibility that it may be in the other areas. Please do noterase your log files until we're finished troubleshooting this issue.

I have a Dell Inspiron 5758.  I've had it since October of 2015. I've never had a problem with the battery, I run it on AC power and battery pretty consistently.
Just yesterday, I noticed that the battery indicator light was rapidly flashing orange and the laptop also powers down when I unplug the AC adapter.
The battery icon says it's at 67% (plugged in, not charging). I ran a couple tests:
1. Diagnostic test on Dell.com, under Product Support. Just gave me a warning icon for battery.
2. Dell Power Manager says "Error" under battery health.
I was reading that sometimes a BIOS update can fix this? I'm just confused as I've owned a couple Dell computers in the past and have NEVER had this issue before.
I run Adobe programs quite often, so I'm wondering if this performance could drain the battery life?
Any insight is appreciated.

Hi,This seems like a very odd situation. When my Z60m is plugged in, my battery shows a 100% charge down next to the system tray. Hi everyone. I'll get right to it:

Yesterday I was running my Dell Inspiron 9300 on battery power until I got the 'low battery alarm' (I think it's set for when the power level reaches 13 percent). I seldom do this, but I lost track of time.

Anyhow I plugged the adapter back in and the laptop switched to AC power. However, the battery status light started to blink orange.

I've looked at my power settings and they indicate that the battery is 98% charged. It's been at that for awhile. Even when I unplug the power source it still blinks orange.

The only thing that works is removing the battery altogether. As it stands, the computer functions just fine, but that flashing light is driving me nuts. Any suggestions?

A:Dell Inspiron 9300 - Flashing Orange

From the manual:
CHECK THE BATTERY STATUS LIGHT — If the battery status light flashes orange or is a steady orange,
the battery charge is low or depleted. Connect the computer to an electrical outlet.
If the battery status light flashes green and orange, the battery is too hot to charge. Shut down the
computer, disconnect the computer from the electrical outlet, and then let the battery and computer
cool to room temperature.
If the battery status light rapidly flashes orange, the battery may be defective. Contact Dell.Click to expand...

If your laptop is more than 1-2 years old, suspect the battery is defective. Some Dell batteries have built in status LEDs built in that may tell you more.

Hi, I have Toshiba Satellite L855-14C and recently the DC IN/Battery indicator started flashing orange / amber. The frequency is constant, about every second. This is the indicator that I mean (outlined in red):

According to manual:
This can happen because:
Remaining battery capacity is low (if no charger connected)There is a problem with power supply / charger

I did some tests on my own and if I remove the battery and use just the charger, then the LED does not flash anymore and has white color. If I unplug the charger and keep just the battery in, then the laptop does not even turn on, or immediately shuts down (if I unplug the charger when laptop is turned on already). Windows battery status reports, that the battery is 99% charged and that it is not charging.

My S10-3t (new almost exactly a year ago) is not booting. Please note that when I got it I upgraded the RAM to 2gb and the Hard Drive to a 500gb drive that has not failed me. I am using Linux, and threw out all the backup stuff, so that is not an option. The problem is that the battery indicator light is flashing orange and white at the same time (a mix of both colors), and it does this when the battery is in and out. The AC adapter works fine, since the netbook is getting power from it when the battery is out. If you need more info then tell me and I will provide it. TL;DR: The computer does not boot and my battery indicator light is flashing two colors at the same time, no matter if the battery is in or not. In my opinion you should contact nearest Toshiba service and ask for help.

A:No Battery Detected, Orange Flashing Charger Light ?

Hi DAVE23181,
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Does the adapter charge the battery fine when connected?
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Has the battery been replaced since you got the system or is it still the same battery that was shipped with the machine?
It might be such that the battery might have reached the end of its rechargeable cycles, indicating the end of its durable life. I would suggest you to test with another battery and check.
You could contact our team to get a quote for a battery - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ
Alternatively, order the battery here - http://bit.ly/2lKjitM
If the adapter port is loose, then replace the dc port - this is part you would need - http://bit.ly/2cLaDWJ

Hi there,

I am new here and have following problem;

Four Months after buying the PC (Satellite Z930-103) I had a bettery problem. Suddenly the orange led was flashing and the notebook couldn't be started anymore. Toshiba service replaced the battery and everything worked well for about two months. Then the same thing happened again. Because I was working in China I opened the notebook and disconnected the battery and could use it with the charger connected.

The PC was sent to a service point when I came home, where they again stated a battery problem and proposed to change the battery. Because the guarantee was expired I had to pay for it. I refused, because the price they were asking was 300 Euro.

Than the big surprise..when I received it back from the service point, they reconnected the battery and the service report stated "no defects found, computer is working well"........

Since than, I started my fight with Toshiba support and tried to find a solution myself. The problem however was not solved until today and still I have to disconnect the battery and reconnect it after waiting a day whenever I forget to disconnect the charger when shutting down or when it goes in sleepmode) I became a real expert in opening and closing the notebook....

Anyway, maybe someone has the same problem and found a solution, I guess it can only be a software problem but Toshiba hasn't solved it until today.

To describe the problem again:

Satellite Z930 is very nice machine designed for mobile usage and I’m really sorry to hear that you have such problems. I presume you didn’t find some identical thread on this forum so I hope it is not some “general problem” with this machine.

I’m not a technician but I cannot imagine that described problem has something to do with software settings. In BIOS you cannot change much and in Windows there are standard Windows power settings and several advanced Toshiba settings.
Power supply electronic placed in the mainboard has some “standard” functions and switch automatically between battery and AC power supply.

I cannot say for sure but I presume there must be the problem with power supply electronic. It is not easy to say what is wrong there and I’m really wondering that Toshiba service provider was not able to identify the reason why all this happen.

Let’s see what the other forum members think about described issue.

Hi there,
I have a brand new (2 days old) Inspiron 15 7559. Today I went to turn it on, and it refused to power up. The backlit keyboard came on, and I noticed that the front LED would come on, then after awhile it would start blinking orange.
I've tried it without the battery, just on AC mains; and just on the battery and the result is the same.
I tried looking around for some information but haven't found much related to my issue. Any suggestions or easy fixes? Or is it something that needs to taken into Dell?
Thanks in advance!

I recently bought a new battery on Amazon for my IdeaPad z580.  It's a Lenovo branded battery, not a cheap generic one.  When I plug the battery into the laptop, it shows 69% charge, but indicates "Not Charging" even when the laptop is plugged in.  I also notice that on the front of the machnine, the battery LED fast flashes an orange color. If I use the older battery, it charges fine and no orange LED. Bad battery or I have I missed something?

Hi there,

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 which is now refusing to start at all. When I plug in the power, the orange battery light on the front edge flashes continuously. If I press the power button, the fan starts up, but I am getting nothing on the screen and no other lights at all.

Situation the same whether battery attached or not.

Any suggestions on how to proceed would be gratefully received.

A:Dell Inspiron 1525 won't start up - flashing orange light only

Im going to guess a failed battery, power supply problem, or a bad motherboard. The battery will be easy to replace the other ones may or may not be easily fixable.

Hello out there woderful people!

I havn't had cause to log onto the site lately, but the last time i did you were all very helpfull.

My Seagate 1 Terabite external drive, started to flash earlier (long orange light) and my desktop would not recognize it anywhere.

I unplugged it and plugged it into my laptop.

I was then able to access and download the files that i needed. So far so good then. I then plugged the drive back into the desktop and it reverted back to flashing light /not being recognized mode which is what I expected.

When i plugged it back into the laptop for the second time, to access more info from the drive, i started to get the same symptom on this as well.

Have followed the instructions below, that I found on FixYa but the drive is still nowhere to be found in Device Manager.

“Right click "My Computer" >properties> hardware> device manager. Expand "disk drives". Right click your seagate drive and click uninstall. Reboot your computer; the drive should automatically be reinstalled”

Please help.

Many, many, thanks

A:Orange flashing light on Seagate external drive and OS not reconizing it.

Hi Ben1923,

I don't know the answer at the moment but would it be possible to use yet another computer to see if you can extract all your important data from the drive? Or if you have another external drive, copy the lot to this. Then format the Seagate drive giving it a different letter.

I've been having this issue for sometime now. . . My laptop allows me to turn it on and once I do the screen remains blank while the caps lock is flashing once every 3-4 seconds and the f10 key has a orange led light on. After leaving it on for a minute or 3 hoping that the screen turns on, the computer then just turns off. My laptop has been taken to repair shop but still has the same issues.  I have also tried about almost everything i have read online on the forums with others who have the same issue.  The weird thing is i'll pay no attention to my computer for about a day or two after constantly trying to get it to work and it'll then suddenly turn on with a message saying that there is a thermal issue with the fan or something.?  I would appreciate if someone would help me fix this situation so that i can no longer deal with it in the future. Thanks!

Just got Road Runner installed today. The guy used my old AT&T modem Electrical cord/adapter to power the Surfboard new modem is that all good? Or is he suppose to provide me a new one?

I am trying to connect my Modem to the my wireless Belkin Router but whenever I try to, the Belkin router flashes a orange light for Modem.... I tried running the Setup CD but I cannot get past the Username and Password. RoadRunner did not provide me with it.

I tried resetting the router and modem but that will not work. The internet works great when it is plugged in from Modem to Desktop, but it will not
through the Router. Can anyone help?

EDIT: Sorry. I just found out that the Modem that Road Runner gave me (Motorola) was Wireless.. Does this mean I don't need a router? This is what I have but without the antenna on it: http://www.roadrunneroffers.com/popup/pop_wireless_modem_info/
When I use my laptop to find my network, it shows up but when I connect to it, it does not connect to the internet..
