I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Which version of Windows you have shouldn't affect how your battery is charged up so it's probably just coincidence.

You may be needing a new battery. Do you have anyone nearby who can check the battery for you?

on my IBM T20 laptop, Win XP-SP2: battery won't charge. Tried new (refurb'd) battery, also won't charge. Bottom of unit gets very hot, however.

I DID change the nickel-sized (Li-on?) battery that goes UNDER the main battery - that's a tricky connect as I had to do it "Blind" - couldnt figure out how to really remove the entire base....and scared to take too much apart! So maybe...that little battery isn't totally connected?? But...the unit works just fine when plugged into 110v, so if that litte battery is to kep the BIOS data intact, it is working. Any ideas on why it won't charge, and what to do about it?? Thanks.

I've only had my P51s for about a week now and just yesterday used it without being connected to the power adapter. So I looked at it only shows Battery 1 discharging and Battery 2 is at 30% and hasn't shown any activity since day 1 actually. How does the 2nd battery function? How do I get both batteries charged to 100% for my next little travel trip? Thanks!

hello ... i bought this 13" Split X2 over 1 year ago ... I only use it a couple of times if I ever needed to access work from work. So 2 weeks ago, I grabbed the Split to use ... the batteries were completely dead!  I was not worried, since I figured a good charge would take care of it.  After a good week of researching, reading forums and trying to charge the batteries ... I realized the batteries will not charge and this is a known issue. I have tried all the tips on this and other forums ... deleting drivers, updating OS, etc ... nothing has worked. I understand there is a repair program  to get the batteries replaced? Please advise. Thank you!

Hi

I recently got a second-hand Dell Latitude D600. The battery was already charged when I got it but it wouldn't recharge at all. I assumed the battery was a gonna and eventually bought a brand new one. However this won't charge up either. I can still run the laptop from the battery (as long as there is some charge left in it). At the moment I'm having to use the AC mostly.

I suspected it may be a BIOS problem, but thats now been flashed. I've tried all kinds of combinations (AC power up, then battery in etc) but nothing. The new battery works as I've been able to charge it on a relatives laptop.

I'm stumped. Any advise you wise people can offer would be greatly appreciated.

SPEC: DELL latitude D600. Windows XP. Battery type: Dell Li-ion Capacity 57WH M9014

Thanks for any help.

Steve.

Sorry I've just joined here so I hope I posted this in the right place.

Hello, I have a Lenovo g470, and I was wondering if it would be possible to get an Ivy Bridge processor. The manual says the following ones are compatible: Intel I7-2620M 2.7G 4M 2c J1 PGA processor CPU.Intel I5-2540M 2.6G 3M 2c J1 PGA processor CPU.Intel I5-2520M 2.5G 3M 2c J1 PGA processor CPU.Intel I5-2410M 2.3G 3M 2c J1 PGA processor CPU.Intel I3-2310M 2.1G 3M 2c J1 PGA processor CPU. But as it Ivy Bridge are backwards compatible with SB, I wonder if I could get a 3ª processor and put in this mobo. If not, does it worth to change from i3 2310m to anyone of these above?? i5 2540m has 200mhz higher clock on gpu and i7 has more l3 cache(4MB), or should I just leave like this?? I appreciate any help. Thank you.  (Sorry for my bad english)

I encountered the BSOD with the problem about atikmpag.sys It seems like I made a wrong choice about deleting it, (solution from internet searching)  and now the Display Adapters doesn't work anymore as you can see in the pictures  after deleting the atikmpag.sys during safe mode, It somehow resolved the problem about the BSOD and my laptop are finally starting properly now the problem is about the resolution, it's not the same anymore, it's too low and somehow the screen is blurry, as you can see at the Graphics section, the maximum resolution I can only choose is 1024 x 768, which is supposed to be 1366 x 768 (HD) if i'm not mistaken,   I need your help on how to fix this I hope i can turn it back to normal., I don't have a CD installer (if it is supposed to have one) to re-install it, and about downloading from other sites I'm a little bit concerned about that so I haven't tried it yet.. and it seems like Lenovo has its own installer... Pls help ASAP

A:Lenovo G470 atikmpag.sys problem

hi jm9327,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

The G470 with a dual GPU (Intel+AMD), uses a muxless driver (this is a custom driver that switches the discrete AMD Graphics to the Intel Graphics to save power). If you have installed a different driver, this may cause system instability (including BSOD).

If you're running on Windows 7, try the following::

1. Follow this guide on how to disable automatic driver installation.
2. Install these drivers in order (reboot if necessary)
(1st)  - Intel Onboard Graphics Driver for Windows 7 (64-bit)
   (2nd)  - AMD Video Driver for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit)

When finished, check if the yellow exclamation marks are gone under Device Manager > Display Adapters and observe the screen resolution adjustment and BSOD occurrence.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards

After spending an inordinate amount of time searching the internet about my problem, and then contacting Lenovo (who told me it was hardware and I needed to return all of the laptops I bought), I managed to magically find the solution to my problem.  Since it wasn't documented elsewhere on the internet, I thought I'd create a post for it here. The problem I was having was that my Lenovo G470 laptop did not display Press F2 to Enter Setup during the boot process, and because of this, no amount of hammering the F2 button would allow access to the BIOS.  I attempted all of the standard fixes, pulled the battery, held power down for 30 seconds, removed the HDD -- nothing would cause this to appear.  Since it was happening on all 3 of the G470s we just purchased, I didn't believe it was hardware.  I reached out to Lenovo Premium Support, and after about 3 minutes of discussion, "Paul" informed me that all three machines were defective and would have to be sent back in for repair, and it would take 4-6 weeks for repair and diagnosis.   As I had been noodling around with the machines for a few days, ONE of the three ended up showing the bios options during the boot process.  At that point, I had been hitting just about every single key on the keyboard during the boot process, so I couldn't identify what it was that I did that caused the options to appear.  A little more troubleshooting and I figured it out: Lenovo G470 machines equip... I'm a bit confused at how this works. Currently I'm running a very demanding game - ArmA 3. Physical Memory usage is at 60%, which is just over half of my 8GB of physical ram. I have a page file of 8192MB. That would come to a commit maximum of 16GB if I understand correctly.

I noticed however as I played, the commit charge was around 90%. How would this be possible if physical memory usage is at 60%?

A:Is this a normal commit charge?

Just going by your figures and not quite sure my logic is correct:

60% of 8GB = 4.8GB

Plus the 8GB pagefile = 12.8GB

90% of 16GB = 14.4GB

Difference of 1.6GB that could be attributed to machine overhead so it doesn't sound too serious. Though it is possible you may have a memory leak somewhere.

You yourself mentioned, "I'm running a very demanding game":

Quote:
applications sometimes use a reservation to create a large block of virtual memory and then commit it as needed to ensure that the committed memory is contiguous

Scroll down to committed memory here: http://Pushing the Limits of Windows: Virtual Memory

This reservation could be why you're seeing the 90% commit rate.

Good evening! I have a Lenovo Edge 2 that has been babied since purchased. Never abused, dropped, no scratches or dents, it's in fantastic condition still. I purchased the extended warranty, hoping I'd never need it.Last year, it stopped charging properly. The battery power dropped to 0%, and hasn't increased since. The machine will only power on when plugged in to AC power, and will immediately power down when the adapter is disconnected. The charging status indicator LED on the right side of the machine flashes orange in a non-steady, intermittent pattern, and the charging indicator in the taskbar in Windows 10 does the same thing. I returned the machine to Best Buy, they sent it to their "Geek Squad" facility for repairs, and the AC Adaptor and battery were replaced, under warranty. The machine was returned to me, and still doesn't charge.I contacted Lenovo, they advised I would need to return it to their facility for repairs. I put it in the provided box, and dropped it off to FedEx on 6/24/17. It's now been 2 weeks. I contacted Lenovo to inquire about the status of the repair, and was told "The technician found evidence of damage, and the upper case will need to be replaced as well, but damage isn't covered under warranty, so you'll need to cover the cost of the repair." I asked for the price, was told "A technician will email you with the price." I inquired about the status of the original repairs, they told me the claim was on hold, pending my review and... Read more

G'day,

My g/f's computer is running XP and recently its commitment charge is currently triple what you would think is normal (700mb instead of 200mb) from what i can ascertain there are no extra processes running and cpu operation is running around 50% +40% -10%. The odd thing is, the computer has 512mb of ram but even when its sitting on 700mb its slow but not standstill slow.

I have rebooted into safe mode and attempted using zone alarm suite, and webroot spysweeper; but both came up with errors requiring restart.

I used the trendmicro housecall online scan in normal operation which did not find anything.

I will post a hijack this log and give pc specs when i'm over there next.

Is it possible that there is a stupid bug that fools task manager into false data considering the pc still works at 800mb charge??

All confusedly,

I recently bought ideapad 320-15ikb. When I play a game like GTA5 on battery it lags in the middle of gameplay and after 30-45 sec again it runs smoothly. But when I play games with AC adapter plugged in, it runs smoothly. But simultaneously it does not charge the battery. eg. If I connect adaptor on battery 28%, it will stays on 28% untill I exit the game (But it shows, plugged in and charging, in battery notifications). As soon as I exit the game it starts charging. Is it normal?

A:ideapad 320-15ikb does not charge while playing games, is it normal?

So its normal for the laptop to be plugged in and not charging at times. Most laptops will allow for some battery discharging before starting to charge again. As for performance battery vs AC power. Your profiles for power based on battery or AC power can determine hardware settings. So its possible on battery the profile limits CPU speed or even changes graphics clock to save battery. Pretty much why gamers in general play games on AC and set profile for power to performance. This helps prevent underclocking CPU or GPU.

I have a Lenovo x201 laptop, It has been sent back for repairs from employee. At first, the fan seemed to be not working causing overheating. I then replaced the fan however the laptop kept shutting down as soon as sign in screen showed up.I think there is a FAN issue where it doesn't run because of low computer usage causing the laptop to crash.I have found a workaround which is a weird way.So if I REMOVE the battery from the back and PLUG in the adapter, the laptop works just fine. I have to care to not unplug the cord accidentally. When I start the laptop + signin everything works fine, and I can hear the fan spinning where before, when the battery was plugged in, It used to idle causing a crash. Now if I put the battery back in. WHILE it is PLUGGED IN and on desktop screen, it SHUTS OFF in a matter of seconds.I concluded that the BATTERY causes the FAN to IDLE which in turn shuts the LAPTOP off because it is thinking the FAN is FAULTY.Now I am on a domain at the moment, so I cannot download a CPU Fan Management Program to keep the fan at a steady X%.ANY IDEAS ? Without the battery, the computer's "on" indicator light flashes when pushing the power button but the computer still does not turn on. I figured it might be the charger so I got it replaced, and still no improvement. Please help!

My Lenovo Y40-70 registers 100% charge left on the battery, but it will randomly shut off and/or go to 0% charge. It is under warranty, but I would like to be able to fix this myself. What is the issue? Is it simply a defective battery. (The Lenovo I have is 9 months old)

hi Patton370,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you download and run BatteryInfoView to get a rough info and status about the battery.

If you see a wide gap between the Full Charged Capactity and the Designed Capacity then it's likely that one of the battery cells is wearing down (it maybe due to heat, daily use, and age). In this scenario, the battery cell(s) lose the charge capacity faster than others cells.

In addition, take a note of thee battery features:

Voltage tap Most consumer equipment treats a stack of cells as a single battery, but this can be dangerous in lithium ion. As the cells age, some will lose capacity faster than others -- and if one cell becomes flat before the others, it can actually start to charge in reverse, which is a highly dangerous condition. The internal circuitry of the battery pack thus has to monitor cells separately and shut down the whole pack if one cell is too far out of balance.

Battery charge state monitor Many lithium ion packs have a built-in meter consisting of a row of LEDs and a button. To accurately report the state of charge, the pack electronics has to keep a record of the current in and out of the cell, as well as a model of its behaviour. This can become more inaccurate over time; more modern cells will recalibrate themselves.

The false 100% charge that you're getting is possibly due to the inaccurate reading of the battery... Read more
