T1600 CPU upgrade with 206 chipset

Q: T1600 CPU upgrade with 206 chipset

I was just given a Precision T1600. I am putting in 32GB ram, a Quadro 2000 video card, and 2x 500GB SSD drives (one for boot, one for added storage).
Does anyone know the max CPU upgrade possible (recommended)? The unit came with the E3 1225. E3 CPUs are available up to E3 1286v3. I don't expect that that one is useable, but what is the upgrade max for this unit.
Can't find any help on the Web...

Preferred Solution: T1600 CPU upgrade with 206 chipset

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: T1600 CPU upgrade with 206 chipset

I don't know why you would EVER want to put in 32gb of ram in a computer and it can only support 16gb of ram at 1333 mhz the video card is good and 2 500gb SSD drivers are WAY too much money for the computer you have, think about it, your paying $1 per 1gb for SSD (around that price, depending on some companies) so in sort just get the quadro 2000 video card with 2x HHD and just use 16gb of ram i know this is still way too much ram but its better then your 32gb of ram haha

I recently upgraded my T1600 MB from a core i3 to a core i7 processor. (Both are Sandy Bridge) While the system is running fine, the CPU benchmarks and Windows (10-Home) utilities are only showing 2 cores and not 4 cores that should be present with the new i7 CPU. I've checked the bios performance settings and the All option is selected for cores and all performance options are enabled. Is there another step needed for Windows 10 to recognize the new processor. (Activation checked and OK.)
The Window System Information utility is still showing the original i3 CPU. ?? Thanks for any advice.

A:T1600 CPU upgrade to core i7-2600

Fixed: I ran the diagnostics located in Settings>Troubleshoot>Hardware and Devices and it identified a problem, corrected it, and instructed me to reboot. Once the reboot was completed Windows indicated 4 cores and 8 threads.

My understanding is that the T1600 uses a standard ATX PSU and as such it is easy to replace and the only thing standing in the way of a new GPU (literally) is the internal 3.5" bay. Is it removable?

A:T1600 video card upgrade -- bay removable?

No.  It is riveted in place.

Hi guys,

some advice please. I have a friend who has passed me an advent DT2412 desktop computer.

The mobo has failed (MSI B75MA-P45) and he wants to replace it with a MSI Z77A-G43.

I suggested that this would need a fresh re-install as its a different chipset but the question I want to ask is that is he allowed to do this with the computer being a prebuild?

If my friend installed a new B75 chipset motherboard then it would be seen as a direct replacement but if he upgraded to a Z77 chipset then this would be seen as an upgrade and thus the recovery discs supplied by advent would not be valid.

am I correct in saying this?

many thanks in advance for all comments.

A:upgrade b75 chipset to z77 chipset - prebuild issue

I may be way off on this, and will surely be told so if I am, but I believe:

He should be able to boot into safe mode, then uninstall the old chipset in Device Manager. Reboot normally and possibly Windows will install the new chipset on its own.

Working in a student computer lab and have had several, 5 fail out of the blue.
These are T1600s, running Windows 7, single monitor.  They will never boot at all, so no monitor and no reading a diagnostic.  The power supply test button at the plug does stay green when pressed and held. The fans will run during that process, however nothing else.  The error code numbers on the front cycle through different patterns and on all but 1, stops at 3.

So the unit when you plug it in you get a flashing power light. No power. No diag codes.

When you press and hold the PSU test button on the back the machine powers up into windows without issue.

CMOS battery tests 3.06v
Tested all ram, reset bios, still the same.

Cant find much info online about it. All capacitors look great, no swollen or corrosion.

Anybody got any suggestions? PSU tests fine on the tester and it does the same when I install a brand new 600w evga psu.

Hi all,I posted a similar question previously about upgrading my cpu, however, I have done futher research and wanted to start clean again. The question is still what is the highest processor I can possibly upgrade to. System Specs: Model: HP DV7-4070usProcessor: i5-450M (2.40GHz, socket 989 rPGA)Chipset: Intel HM55 (or the Intel 5 series) RAM: 8 GBStorage: SSD + Secondary HD After research more deeply, I have found this link: http://www.cpu-world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18837Similar situation: "If it's not a BGA chip, you should be able to replace with Core i5-560M, i5-580M, or i7-640M CPUs. If you have Intel HM55, HM57, PM55 or QM57 chipset then quad-core i7-740QM / i7-840QM CPUs may also work. " So does that mean I can get the i7 quad-core CPU then? I understand that quad core CPU requires a different mobo, but it seems to me, from that forum link and also from Intel's site that with my current setup, I can potentially upgrade to:i7-740QM (? kinda iffy about this one)i7-840QM (? kinda iffy about this one)i7-640Mi5-580M (Almost 100 % sure) I greatly appreciate ANY response that would help me. Are there any known compatibility issues between the Intel 865 chipset and nVidia-based video cards?

The reason I ask is that after a year or more of running this system, suddenly no AGP video card I put into this system will work unless it's in plain VGA mode (no drivers). As soon as I load its proper driver, the system won't go back into Windows 98 or Windows 2000 (dual-boot system). It just hangs with a lot of gobbeldegook on the screen.

All the AGP cards I have here are nVidia-based cards so I have no other type card to test with.

At present, I'm using an old S3 PCI video card and at least it gets into Windows; but, I'm stumped.

A:Intel 865 Chipset and nVidia chipset issues?

Alex, I built quite a few systems with Intel D865PERL boards (865PE chipset) and nVidia video cards and never had a problem. My workbench machine right now is running a D865PERL board with a nVidia card with no problems.

Intel released a new chipset driver on 6/04/2007, version which covered the 865 family, eg. 865G, 865GV, 865P and 865PE.

In the release notes under Issues Resolved, item #4 stated; "Some devices were not updating correctly or at all. Fixed in installer."

You may want to try that update. The only problem I see with the update is since you are dual booting, the latest update is OK with Win2K, however Win98 is not mentioned in All Operating Systems. To get back to an 865 chipset driver that covered both Win2K and Win98SE you had to go back to the release of 12/16/2004, version that covered both Win2K and Win98SE.

Other than updating the chipset driver, I am at a loss to suggest a place to start.

Ok i went to cercuit city to get my computer for Chrismas. I asked for a good gaming computer. The computer cost over $600 plus monitor, printer, keyboard ext. It is windows vista and i thought it would be a greate computer for games. Well, not really. The computer has an Express chipset family graphics. I install Jointoperations and it wont run, you guesed it. The video card did not complete the game test. Most of my games i had dident work too well, except for my Steam games like Half-Life, Day of Defeat, Counter-Strike ext. NOW LISTEN TO THIS YOU WONT BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My dads computer broke so we went to walmart and got a cheap one without the monitor just the mouse and keyboard, and computer. It cost over $200!!!!! i new that computer sucked. But i was wrong. I installed Steam games and they run greate. My starcraft game runs excelent. I wanted to see if Joinoperations would work on his computer. So i Install it and it passed the game test. It runed fine. The video card on this computer is a NvidIA Geforce chipset. NOW WHAT IS UP WITH THAT! Every thing on my dads computer is excelent except the CPU speed wich is still ok.

What do u think of this?? Please reply.

A:I cant belive this!!! vista chipset v.s XP Chipset

Sounds like you listened to a salesman instead of researching it yourself. All he wants is the sale.

But Vista does run games. You may need to tweak it and reduce services to run them better. And try compatibility mode to run them under XP SP2 in Vista if you still have problems.

I have GTX 460 with 258.96 drivers. I do not have an nVidia chipset. When I went to check the Driver Sweeper files, I found all these chipset files. Why do I have them?

A:Why do I have chipset drivers when I don't use an nvidia chipset?

Why do I have them?

For the same reason I and everyone else does, because 7 installs base drivers for just about everything as a "just in case", regardless of the actual hardware. I have those same files as well as some from Intel, Via, SiS, etc all in the,

Personally I would just leave all that well enough alone as it isn't affecting anything as they never get loaded unless the hardware they are for ever gets installed. That and there is a good chance that by removing them that when SP1 does come out it will fail to install due to missing system files (ask those that had that happen after removing various unused driver files and whatnot with vlite on Vista).

A:AMD Drivers On An Intel Chipset (South Bridge & Chipset Drivers ?)

First thing, check your specs just to be 100% sure of what you have.

Second, Driver Genius and any similar program is not really recommended as they aren't particularly reliable.

Then if you still have drivers for stuff you don't have we can talk about them.

I'm going to get a new motherboard (finally) and have settled on these two options:

Question is (since my budget is so tight) will I notice any real difference by choosing the less expensive SIS chipset board over the Intel chipset board?

A:SIS chipset vs. Intel chipset

Not an answer to your question exactly, just an observation:

I would look for a main board with PCI Express graphics interface instead of AGP.
AGP video cards are still available, but the overwhelming majority of new cards are PCI-X, and they are generally a bit cheaper than their AGP counterparts.

Unless, of course, you want to transfer an AGP card over to the new board.

Hi, I bought a cheapy Acer laptop just to have a play with and noticed that if I go to the Acer drivers site, that under Xp the Chipset driver is in the list. However, under Vista and Win7 it doesn't show.
Am I to assume that it is tied up with one of the other drivers in the list and therefore loads automatically?

The drivers for Vista and Windows 7 are not shown as they are on the OS installation media and are installed with the OS. Most likely the drivers have not been updated since the initial release. As the computer is newer than XP the installation media cannot provide them.

A:Which Chipset Is Best To Use

The 965 denotes a Family of Chipsets. 965 is the family, and the letter indicates specific functionality of the chipset.
Just because you are offered both drivers doesn't mean that one is better than the other. You MUST choose the
appropriate chipset for your motherboard or face a blue screen at some point.

And further? are you looking for a driver that provides sound or networking? or something more like a
PLATFORM driver. These are very different depending on the application.

You may want to try downloading Everest at home. (The Free version, which may not correctly identify your board)

And check to see what chipset you have. Or you could try CPU-Z (Meant to test your CPU)
And it should also list the chipset/platform you have.

This problem is pretty old and I have been thinking about deleting this partition.

Vista Enterprise x64 was installed as part of a triboot system and was the first os installed. When I installed it, I had a Gigabyte mobo with an ATI chipset. The mobo worked unreliabily (had a short) so about 7 months ago I got another that would work with my existing hardware. Problem was that the Gigabyte was not available. So, I got an Asus mobo that had a NVidia chipset.

Niether my other 2 os had trouble transitioning (server 2008 r2 or 7 ult). They each booted enough for me to change the chipset drivers.

Vista, on the other hand, didn't. It found most of the necessary drivers, except usb. There are no problem icons in device manager, but no usb device is recognised - including mouse or keyboard, thus making it unusable.

With a ps2 keyboard, I managed to do some simple navigation, but that was it.

I tried a repair install which seemed to have no effect. So, I know that I'd probably have to sacrifice this Vista. If there is something else to try, I'd be open to it.

Q: Chipset

Hi everyone

I have decided to build a new pc and have a question for all of you. I am going to go with one of these two choices and was wondering which chipset you would recomend. The SIS645 chipset or the VIA P4X400 I will be running a P4 2.53 with 533mhz front side bus, 512mb of pc2700 memory, geforce4Ti4200, and a maxtor 60gb with Ultra ATA133. The two boards I am choosing from are the Soyo "SY-P4S Dragon Ultra" or the "SY-P4X400 Dragon Ultra Platinum Edition". I can get a better deal on the "SY-P4S" and it handles what I want to install, But was concerned in the chipsets mainly. Which would you recomend?

Thanks and hope to see your replies

I dislike SiS. They seem to have the budget board segment locked up though. I'd say if you can swing it for a P4 go for an Intel chipset.

Win98SE is pretty good at detecting and adapting to new hardware, so you might as well give it a go. There are no guarantees that it will work, and it is always better to reinstall if you have the time, especially since Win98SE does get slower with use.

does anybody know how i will find the chipset manufactuer for my motherboard. running windows98se. in win 2000 and xp it is under system device in device manager but not 98se. i need to know cus i have a new graphics card and i need to download agp bus drivers for non-intel chipset based motherboards. comp is compaq presario 5000 series with AMD DURON 700mhz processer. how do i find this info because the user manual for new card only gives adv for 2000 and xp even though 98se is supported?

Does anyone know when the new (Z?) chipset for Sandybridge chips is going to ship? It's kind of stupid to have H and P boards and this will combine all into 1.

A:New chipset due?

i think it'll need to be announced in may-time, released later on, seems like intel just pushed out sandy bridge onto a platform as soon as they could, but since it hasnt been officially announced, dont expect it any time soon
