Acer VN7 792G Fan noise

Q: Acer VN7 792G Fan noise

My new VN7-792G arrived a few days ago and is a very nice machine indeed. The only odd thing is that the Fan seems to be quite loud when is starts going. I had an XPS machine before this so I am used to noisy fans, but this is quite high pitched and sounds almost as if it's imbalanced and reminds me of fans in old machines that begin to whine towards the end of their life. Oddly, the noise decreases if I lift one (or both) corners beside the hinges even slightly. I've also tried it on different surfaces in case it was a vibration issue between the laptop and the table it was on, but no success. Has anyone experienced anything similar, or is this normal?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I think I had a very similar issue on VN7 792G, a noise like whistling. I was about to return the product but I think I fixed it. You probably won't like the solution. One of the below solved my fan noise issue (I don't know which) 1- Opened the case and investigate anything that might vibrate due to fan. First I saw that Acer forgot one of the screw of the mainboard so I placed a new one and screwed motherboard firmly no prevent any vibration. Also close to larger fan plastic casing of the (vibrating) fan was touching to the (stationary) case. I put a soft electric band in between. 2- I put a little machine oil to both fans. This part is tricky, you need to know where to put (check online), also you will need an oil with small sized needle heads. It possible to access fans after removing keyboard. I suggest not turn upside down for sometime if you decide to put oil. best,

I have recently purchased V7-792G Nitro Black Edition. I have installed Win 10, since on Win 7 it is impossible to install the Realtek drivers for ALC255. The built in microphone is not available as a recording device, but if I plug an external mic it is properly functioning. It's weird that the two USB 3 on the right side are operating at USB 2 speed (max at 20 MB/s), but I could live with that. When the machine is under load, the fan located at the top right corner is noisy and entering in resonance with any surface on which I place the laptop. However if I pick it up on my hands the noise is a bit more bearable. Could you please advice ? If these problems persists I will need to return it to the seller in BG and get my money back.

I'm not sure if your computer is designed to run Windows 7.  Probably not. I would suggest that you reset your computer to factory condition.  I''ll assume that by installing Windows 7, recovery is no longer available to you and you had to install vanilla Windows 10.  If you can no longer reset your computer to factory condition and forgot to create a USB recovery drive, you can order your recovery media from Acer. The link below will show you how to restore your PC to factory defaults. http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/29934/related/1/session/L2F2LzEvdGltZS8xNDcwMDExMjk... http://us-store.acer.com/erecovery/rcd/ http://www.acer.com/worldwide/support/ If that doesn't fix your problems, give Acer a call.

Hello. I have a lot of issues with my Acer VN7-792G for a long time.First time I received the laptop, I had several issues with the Nvidia drivers while playing games, the GPU would overheat and freeze the laptop completely, along with a very unpleasant noise. It does that even on Very Low settings. I could finally find the answer to my issue when someone on Nvidia's forum told me to never update Nvidia drivers on laptops. (I was always updating to the latest driver through GeForce Experience)I followed his advice and got back to the driver provided by the manufacturer's website (which is 359.xx), since then no issue occured, I could play games on High/Ultra 120fps without freezing/crashing. I reinstalled Windows recently through the ISO provided by Microsoft's website. I disabled Windows Update to update the drivers, and I installed all the drivers provided by Acer's website for my computer, using my serial number. But after few minutes of playing, I still experience freeze/crash, and by that I mean the laptop completely freezes and the only thing I can do is to force shut down, holding power button for few seconds. The laptop is very hot at this point. Highest temp I could record for the GPU was around 70-80°c before it freeze/crash.So I'm starting to think that the problem isn't from the Nvidia driver anymore, since the moment I reinstalled Windows 10 (64bits). Also, apart from the GPU really overheating, now the HDD seems to heat a lot too. Hi and wellcome, First update BIOS, if you don't have the latest updates. It is highly recommended since as you can see some update the VBIOS, which has a link with the video. Also it updates the management engine which monitors various parameters (eg temperature) on the notebook. Second be sure you have installed the intel management engine drivers from the acer drivers download page. XTU will not break the warranty, but be careful because it can cause system instability if you undevolt too much. Since you have a 792G, which is bigger than any 59XG notebooks I don't think you should have any issues with thermal throttling. So I would not set the CPU to 99%. It would limit the system performance.

Hello, I did find a few threads about this but for other models, so I take my chance. I would like to buy a new ~240go SSD M 2 to upgrade my laptop. Can anyone confirm that there is actually a M 2 port inside ? I believe yes since I watched a few videos, but the laptop seller's website does not talk about it, so i'm confused. Is there any better SSD than another for compatibilty with the 792G ? I would like to use it as my main drive with Windows on UEFI in it, and the HDD I had will be used for storage. Same goes for RAM, what is the maximum RAM supported by this laptop ?

Hi everybody! Approximately a month ago I bought this laptop. A few days of work I had found that my eyes are tired extremely fast and when I use another notebook or external monitor they just relaxing. I tried all possible settings but it is hard to work with screen not only in Windows, but in Linux too. Even if you just go to BIOS, your eyes just crucifying. I found different LCD tests and has cheched this notebook LCD. I had found that phasing test fails, after that I just went to service center and they had replaced screen. All tests passed well. But I felt not comfort while working on it. My eyes strained less but this not comfort effect had left. And I asked my friends, they said that they do not feel comfort with this screen. My oculist says that I have a healthy eyes and all problems is with that notebook. So it passes all online screen tests but harms my eyes. Service center cannot take this to repair, they say that there are no problem with the screen. I do not know what to do... Some people says that it is display controller problem and to fix it just need to flash new rom. But I have the latest BIOS 1.0.9...Any suggestions? Now I must work via HDMI to save my eyes...

Hi guys, I seem to be having issues with my secondary hardrive (to the best of my knowledge). If I am watching  a video/movie saved on it, occasionally the video wll hang for a few seconds. If I am downloading something to it, or copying a file to it, sometimes all progress will stop/downlod will stall. Then if I try and go to a folder saved on it, windows locks up and it can't load the folder or access the HDD. Today, I was watching a movie and downloading something at the same time. The download stalled, and the movie completely locked up. When I tried to fix it, WIndows crashed and I was foreced to restart.  I have changed my power settings to never put the HDD to sleep (although it occurred to me that maybe this is just controlling the HDD windows is installed on (which is the SSD)). However if I am actively downloading and watching a movie, surely it wouldn't put it to sleep. What else can I do here? Any ideas what the problem is? Is it a faulty HDD?

Hi, It's perfectly normal. It's a notebook with small heatsink and not a PC with a huge fan and heatsink. The temperatures are normal, and it can go even higher which can cause your CPU and GPU to throttle. In case of the 792G since it is a 17 inch one, you probably will not have problems with throttling because it can have bigger airflow than a smaller 15 inch one. And regarding the battery. Is not removable, or you can remove it just if you take apart the notebook. But generaly is not a removable battery.

From when I first turn on my machine, I hear:
b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b from my speakers, along with other feedback. This happened awhile ago, when I first bought my computer. Muting from within Windows doesn't work, and sometimes, the sound from windows stops, to I turn the dial to >OFF, and back to >ON.

At first it was a faint noise when I moved the mouse. AND, this doesn't happen with headphones, or when the speakers are plugged into something besides the computer (like my iPod).

It is really getting on my nerves, please help :/

Hello,

Sorry for the late reply.

In this regard, I suspect that the grounding connection for the plug to which you have connected your PC is improper.

► If your power Cord is 2 Pin, then connect it to a 2 pin Plug.
► If your power Cord is 3 pin, then connect it to a 3 pin plug.

This could be the reason for such noises at times. For the above reasons, some of the capacitors on the main board might have gone bad. So, you try to sort out the same.

I recently bought an Acer Aspire 7738G laptop with Windows 7. After a day or two the speakers (in fact i think it was the internal subwoofer) started to make a loud grinding noise which was intermittant but which became increasingly prevalent. It seemed sometimes to be brought on by my going online or somethin like that whilst music was playing, but sometimes started on it's own. Thinking it was a hardware problem I changed my laptop for exactly the same model. Unfortunately however after a few days exactly the same thing has started to happen.

I don't think I am the only one to have had this problem (see link below) and I wonder if it's aproblem with Windows 7 and Acer internal subwoofers. I am not a techy and all I can think to do is to take this laptop back and get a non Acer one. I'd rather not go through all that again (transferring itunes alone is a pain let alone getting the computer to perform in the shop).

Please let me know therefore if there is a simple fix to save me the trouble.

A:New Acer Aspire Blue Screen shutdown & noise

Hello -

Quote:

This laptop had a blue screen and very loud noise.

Sounds like a hardware issue.

I don't see any sign of infection in that log, which is what this section of the forum focuses on. That said...your version of HijackThis is outdated. Furthermore...

We no longer use HijackThis as our initial analysis tool, as it's not nearly as detailed as the tools we do use.

I don't believe this is a malware caused issue. Had you not posted a HijackThis log in your Windows XP topic, you might have received more detailed assistance there. You may want to repost in that topic, and ask someone to remove the HijackThis log, and pursue non-malware troubleshooting for you...or create a new topic in the Hardware section, with no HijackThis log. All such logs get referred here.

As far as the missing file in the O20 line, I'm not sure how that would affect your machine. I have that file in more than one location, system32, system32\dllcache and ServicePackFiles\I386....Windows File Protection should have replaced it.

You might do a search on your system to see if it's another location, and copy it to System32. Otherwise, you way wish to run the System File Checker

Go to Start->Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit OK. Let it scan. If it finds any files missing/corrupted, it may ask for the Windows CD. Otherwise, it will auto-close after it's done.

If after all that, you think the machine is infected, due to other symptom... Read more

i recently bought an acer aspire m1640 off of someone. But when i turned it on it made a loud EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE noise. I narrowed down frow where the noise is coming fom and its coming from the lower right corner of the motherboard. Its not from the hard drive or any of the fans. it seems that its coming from a small cylinder with a hole on top of it and there is a small lithium ion battery next to it. Does anyone know whats wrong or how to fix it???

A:acer aspire wont boot noise EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

The EEEEEE noise you are referring to is coming from yur motherboard onboard speaker, and is a series of high pitched beeps. I;ve looked at the board maual and it does not refer to the different beep combinations it has.

Try powering up the Pc with the top off the case and check things such as the CPU fan is running, check all hardware is seated correctly as it more than likely will be some form of hardware failure. Also try replacing the CMOS battery (the small lithium ion battery you mentioned)

This has been driving me mad for a couple of days now. I usually work in the evening after my family goes to sleep. I am sitting in a very quiet room and predominantly just type. Occasionally a notification sound would play through the built in speakers and just before that a crackling sound would be emitted. It happens every time system plays any sound, just before going online speakers would just give out tiny crackling sound. After some research I have found out that this is due to the sound card on motherboard going into power saving mode and once it would go back online that distorted crackling would appear. A problem quite popular amongst laptop owners with Realtek sound on the motherboard. Most of the time the solution is to download a new Realtek driver from the Realtek website, go to the HD Audio Manager and turn off power management from the settings menu. It does indeed work as I have tested myself. After installing latest Realtek drivers from their website and disabling power management the crackling is gone as card never sleeps. But unfortunately it also uninstalls Dolby features that come standard with Acer audio drivers. Native drivers have Dolby but they don?t have power management settings in HD Aduio Manager. So right now I can either have native driver with Dolby sound (which I really like) and crackling (that honestly drives me crazy) or Realtek direct drivers without Dolby and no crackling. Anyone knows how I can install Dolby separat... Hi, The cracking is done as you told by the latest drivers from Realtek. I think they screwed something up. There were some reports in this topic:http://community.acer.com/t5/V-and-VN-Series-Laptops/VN7-592G-blue-screen-after-installed-Windows-10... Regarding Dolby, well download the drivers from the Acer webpage http://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers And inside there is a folder called DS1 and PCEE4. In these folders are the installation files for Dolby. Run the installation from one of these folders and it will install Dobly, but it will not replace your audio drivers.

Hi, I have a problem with my laptop. It was in service at the end of August with the cpu stuck at 0,8GHz problem. They fixed it with the replacement of the motherboard. This problem is fixed, but after the service a new problem came. My left speaker started making buzzing noise when I start playing games(CS:GO or GTA V tested on both). Feels like as my laptop getting hotter and hotter the noise gets louder and louder. If I close the game there is still buzzing noise, but as the laptop cools down it starts getting quieter until it stops doing it. I tried to uninstall and install the audio driver(latest from the acer website), disable or mute the speakers, but nothing help. I'm always using my laptop with headphones. Thanks for the advices in advance.

My son was using the PC today and it shut down. On trying to restore the power it sounds like its trying to power up. The power light does not go on and there is an continual beep beep coming from the machine.
Is it knackered. What are my options.

Thanks

Allan

Hi,Since the beginning I own this laptop it overheats. As soon as I play a game the CPU temperature will go up and fluctuate around 80-100 degrees celcius. I had to manually turn down the maximum CPU speed to about 60% in energy saving settings to keep it under 70C. This of course has quite some impact on the speed of the laptop. I cannot do the things advertised on the product page without hurting the laptop (assuming 100C is dangerous for a processor). What can I do?

I bought the machine in June and it was silent, but now we're hearing a very low volume hum/buzz (kind of like a mosquito passng by your ear, except 3 octaves lower) more and more frequently. It emanates from the right side - approximately under the Enter Key vicinity and occurs intermittently for maybe 2 or 4 seconds as the machine is actively processing data or updating webpages. It's not correlated with the fan turning on/off. Any ideas?

So I connect a 1080p TV to the HDMI port. Detects fine. But when I connect it, it displays in 720p (or something close to it, looks like 720p). Desktop Right Click > Display Srttings > Select TV > AdvancedThe resolution field is empty. Can't set it here, but I can for the built in display. *shrug* So instead...Desktop Right Click > Graphics Properties (which is Intel HD Graphics)I select the TV... It claims to be set at 1920x1080, which is BS. So now the real fishy part. I set the TV to mirror the built in display. My built in display is now at 720p, but HD Graphics claims I have them set at 1080. As soon as I disconnect the TV, the resolution on the built in display scales back up to 1080p. Icon sizes change, etc. It's very obvious something is not right. Any ideas or suggestions? I've tried everything I can think of. Oh and, I'm a Desktop tech. Something like this should be trivial...

Hello, My Acer randomly BSOD with PNP error and after restart I have no sound and I get a red x on my speaker icon in the lower right corner where the clock is. I checked the Device Manager and I get a yellow exclamation mark under System Devices and it seems the problematic device is Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) Audio Controller. Under Sound, video and game controllers I have only one driver left - NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible) (WDM). When I click View --> Show hidden devices it shows the audio drivers which means they are disabled somehow, I think? Anyhoo, I've updated the problematic driver and hoped that this solved the issue but to no avail. I'm afraid to uninstall the driver because it's under System Devices and not under Sound, video and game controllers categories. I am starting to think it might be an hardware issue, but I seriously hope not. Perhaps you have some ideas what I could try to fix this?

Hello. My Aspire VN7-792G got some beer spilled on it's keyboard by someone while I was not at home and now no longer turns on.The Power Off USB Charge Port still charges my phone when I connect a USB cable to it.The Light that confirms it recieves power from the AC (both blue and amber lights). My thoughts are that the beer messed up the stuff under the power button (which is integrated in the keyboard apprently) and no longer works. Is there anything I can do to turn it on in a different way?Any thoughts on this?

Sound on my machine cuts out randomly.  Reinstalled audio driver but it still happens.  I think it is hardware.  If I tap on the case, I can get sound to come back.  Acer wants me to send it in for repair but I don't want to be without the machine for two weeks. I tried headphones (they work).  I am suspecting the headphone jack itself - maybe a bad mechanical connection where it switches from speakers to headphones. Anyone else have this problem or a solution?

How can i replace the hdd for a ssd in my Aspire VN7-792G?

A:replace hdd for ssd in aspire VN7-792G

Hi,You need to familiarise with disassembly procedure by watching videos, you need to decide which type of SSD you actually want to install, you have the option of replacing the current HDD with 2.5" normal SSD or M.2 SATA SSD.Now, you need to back up your current drive image to another external hard drive, and create a recovery disk using a program like Macrium reflect or similar program. Then you need to install the SSD, go to BIOS and make the dvd/USB as the first boot, connect the external hard drive, insert the DVD/USB recovery disk, reboot. Now, you can recover the image you backed up earlier to the new SSD.If you need more clarification, please post your question.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hhqm2yg_aiI&t=466shttp://www.macrium.com/help/v5/How_to/Rescue/Create_a_Standard_Windows_PE_Rescue_Environment.htmhttp://kb.macrium.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50074.aspx

Windows 10 has been updated as well as the BIOS and chipset but it will not see the 960 EVO ssdd.I have a Windows 10 install on an 850 EVO SSD and the drive still doesn't show up.  I haven't upgraded my personal computer in sometime but this BIOS is extremely limited, basically has options for boot order and Legacy/UEFI only.  Is there anyway to unlock this w/o having to mod it? There's lots of cross talk on the forums as to whether it's a SATA or NVME capable M.2 slot on this laptop.  I've spent a good deal of time on this and would really like for it to work.  Thanks in advance.

With Skylake Intel introduced Speed Shift Technology(SST), it's interesting  especially for mobile devices. But unfortunately it's disabled on VN7-792G. For those who don't know what SST is, it allows processor change frequencies more quickly to allow quicker responses from low power idle state.  It would be nice if Acer enabled SST in next BIOS update.

Okay, I couldn't find anyone with this problem, so I'm creating a new post. One month ago I've bought VN7-792G and I'm satisfied with it. But there is one strange problem - during certain events (receiving notification via Facebook/Steam, when launching a sound file or jumping through a YouTube video) I can hear a silent "tick" sound from lower left corner of my laptop. I've tried updating BIOS and sound drivers, but this problem persists.

Hello,I have managed to install windows 7 on VN7 792G Black Edition. The last thing what's left is sound. Realtek ALC255 sound card is not recognized, but It is detected on PCI bus.I have been trying to manually add this driver (with success), but error code 10 was displayed. Anyone knows about 3rd party drivers, which could probably works with this notebook? I need windows 7 for my work, but I like this notebook look's, so I would like to keep it (I have still couple days to return it and get something else).
