How to change screenshots to write to a folder rather then clipboard ?

Q: How to change screenshots to write to a folder rather then clipboard ?

Hi,

I notice in Windows 8 slight changes have been made to where screen shots are written to. In previous versions of windows they've always been written to the clipboard with each additional screenshot being overwritten but now in windows 8 they appear to be written and stored in a folder which means you can take multiple screenshots without the previous one being overwritten.

I want to know if it's possible to make that feature available in windows 7 since it was a big leap for me to upgrade from XP and if it wasn't for carrying features over from XP I wouldn't have upgraded ie T800's Folder Options X It would be really neat if they could add that to their utility

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Everyone, & Happy New Year!
I take a lot of screenshots from several different nest-cam sites I watch, & I don't like how they're organized when they reach their dedicated files, so I'd like to know if I can change it. I'll try my best to explain what I mean.
When I take any screenshot, when I title it in the "Save As" window, I put the Date, then type what's in the screenshot, then put the time, (e.g. 4.14PM), then the extension of .jpg My issue is, instead of the screenshots being kept in order by the "time" they were taken, they're organized by; date...then alphabetically by the description I've given them...then the time...then the .jpg.
Organizing, first by date is perfect, but most of the times, the screenshots actually tell the story of the day's activities, so chronological order is VERY important, especially for important events, like progression of an egg hatching.
When I noticed this, I tried changing the way I named each screenshot by adding the time right after the date, then the description & then the .jpg (e.g. 12-22-15--2.30PM-Beginning of hatch.jpg), but it completely ignores the addition of the time, & goes right to the first letter of the description. In the excitement of keeping track of a hatch, I'll just type what I see, but if I start the description of the newest screenshot out of alphabetical order, the sequence will not be in chronological order, (which is what's most important...after the date that is)!

Hi all,

Like many people, I have problems with file/folder locking on Windows XP that results in the inability to delete folders.

The problem occurs *every time* I 'copy' or 'cut' a file from within a directory - after that, the containing folder is undeletable. The type of file does not seem to matter. After a reboot, logoff, killing the explorer process, the folder is then deletable.

I can replicate the problem this way:
1. Create a folder anywhere called 'empty'
2. Create a text file called 'test.txt' inside 'empty'
3. Right click on 'test.txt' and select 'Cut' or 'Copy'
4. 'empty' is now undeletable
5. 'test.txt' is deletable

When I use 'Process Explorer' to watch file handles and processes during the above procedure, the following happens:
1. Initially, no file handle to 'test.txt'
2. Initially, explorer.exe has 1 handle open to 'empty'
3. Initially, explorer.exe has 3 references to 'empty'
4. After 'cut', explorer has 2 handles open to 'empty'
- First handle is the same as 2 & 3 (from above)
- Second handle was created after the 'cut' operation
- Second handle has 1 handle and 1 reference
5. Folder 'empty' is undeletable after 'cut'
6. If I close the second handle, 'empty' is then deletable

Some additional notes:
1. I have tested this on FAT32 and NTFS drives

A:Cannot delete folder after clipboard use

Hi all,

A solution to the last post...

I finally figured out what was happening with the folder locking and delete problems. I have been using a little utility called "rjhExtensions" for things like getting a command prompt from a folder, etc. Turns out that this utility creates file handles during any copy or cut operation that remain open until a logoff. A big problem of course.

The solution, simple enough, is to just uninstall rjhExtensions and use a similar tool like "Command Prompt Here" that is available from the WinXP Powertoys website.

However, I can open the file normally using: 'right click' ==> 'open'.

Any ideas?

Hi and welcome to TSG,
Running this script should fix the problem:

Download folder_open.vbs from the following link and save this file to your hard drive. Navigate to where you saved it and double click the file. A confirmation dialog will appear when finished. This script can be viewed in Notepad or any text editor, as to the specific Registry key and value that are updated.

First, please forgive me if I have overlooked this issue in the many searches I have performed thus far.

I would like to know if anyone has a way to change all folder icons within a single folder to one specific icon without performing each one individually. I have over 1,400 folders within a master folder of which I would like to change the child folder icons. I really don't wish to perform this on a folder-by-folder basis.
This is not a Default Folder Icon Change inquiry. This is simply all child folders within a single master folder. I would also be interested if the change would affect all folders of a specific type. Windows 7 does allow the 'setup' of a folder to be distributed (details view with selected details, order, and column size for example) but the icon did not distribute as well.

Any suggestions?

A:Bulk Change All Folder Icons in Single Folder or Folder Type

First, a little bit of theory. What happens when a person sets a custom icon for a folder in Windows 7?
1. Attributes of a Folder change to Read-only (of the folder, NOT content!).
2. A hidden system file created inside that folder, which contains a link to the icon.

Thus, having such file as model, it is possible simply copy it across desired folders, and change attributes of those folders correspondingly.

Secondly, having this idea in my mind, I have put all of my little knowledge of Batch files together and created a script.
BEFORE script is started the following is needed to be done:
Master folder needs to be selected and a custom icon applied to it.

ONLY AFTER THAT
1. Script is placed inside that master folder and launched.
2. First, script checks if hidden system file with custom icon settings is there.
3. Secondly, script looks for subfolders and start changing its attributes.
4. Thirdly, script copies this settings file to all subfolders of current master folder, including all levels of subfolders.

For 100 folders it took about 21 seconds, for 200 folders with different levels of subfolders it took about 57 seconds on my laptop.

I have included remarks (comments) in the source code for better understanding what is going on.

UPDATE: Original file deleted. Script was not meant to be applied to system folders.

Hello,

I have encountered a problem involving .eml files that I cannot explain.
I wonder whether anyone knows something about it.

I have a backup/restore program that scans all my files, and copies new
and updated files to a USB key. When I start working on a different computer
the program performs the reverse operation. After each file copy, the
last write time of the target file is set to that of the source file.

The program works without problems, except that for a subset of files with
the extension .eml the last write time refuses to be changed. The change of
the last write time is performed with the Win32 API function SetFileTime.
The strange part is that SetFileTime returns a "success" value; however, on
examination of the file properties it is seen that the time has not been
set properly. Stranger still, when the program is run with a debugger, the
last write time is set correctly.

I have tried all possible things; for example, I tried running the program
with administrator rights, I tried sleeping the program for a while before
changing the last write time, etc. None of these things worked. The only
thing that does work is changing the extension of the .eml files. When the
extension is changed, the program works normally.

Can anyone explain this behavior?

Regards,
bostjanv

If the article is correct and it is a permission issue, then it works in debug mode because debug has a high privilege level.

Here's the back story: I need to use a program, "Hand Held Software Tools," for an Anritsu test set; the software hasn't been updated since '08 or so since the company released a new program. However, my customers still prefer the older program. The test equipment only has a serial port, but my laptop does not, which is a common problem with this equipment/software. An easy fix is using a serial-to-usb adapter.

This is where the problem starts. The software will only communicate through com ports 1-6. My laptop assigns my USB ports to 11-13. I've ran into this before, and have been able to change to a working port by going through

I am applying a solution to take backup from clients machine to a shared folder location, the share management will be done through their AD accounts through a backup application.

However, I want to prevent user from accessing the shared folder location and deleting contents
it would be possible to use another account for shared file access but am looking for better option.

if Anything from the following can be done it should be great:
- Modifying permissions to allow writing and modifying content but not deleting
- Disable web access to shared location through windows explorer
- Only allowing access to shared location through the backup application in any way
Really appreciate any help.

A:Shared folder, write but not delete

not done any Active Directory work for a while but I'm sure the delete permission was separate so a deny could be applied the the delete for the group concerned who would have the other permissions, you would need to check the stacking of the actual permissions to be sure though, a deny is a dangerous thing for sysdmins as you often forget what groups you've assigned yourself as for testing

Also it's worth having a look at Sysinternals as I think they still have some advanced AD tools

As most of the others should be possible through normal NTFS permissions and even the parental controls it should be possible using Group Policy

So I was browsing my email and found a msg that I was chosen to beta test the new MMO Skyforge which I had registered for almost a year ago. Excited, I followed the directions to download the beta client file, and when I ran it, I noticed that it was trying to default to an additional disk drive that I had plugged in that was from an older rig build (the only component that survived a lightning strike). It should have defaulted to my C drive but instead is trying to install on the older drive which is marked as F drive.

So I tried to change the location, and I got a msg I've never seen before: "Insufficient permissions to write to folder....."

HUH?!

I'm logged in and ran the program as administrator, and yet windows refuses to allow me to install it.

Is there a way to fix this?

**UPDATE01**: I decided to try and run a command in cmd prompt as administrator: sfc /scannow, thinking that maybe there might have been corrupted files in my OS (Win7 Ultimate 64). sfc found nothing. Still stumped.

A:Insufficient Permissions to write to folder

Right click on the folder, and select properties. Make sure the Read-Only attribute is unchecked/deselected, as it could've been installed as read-only for some odd reason.
From there, open up the Security tab. Scroll through the list of "Group or user names", and look for your Windows log-in name/username.
If you do not find your username there, select Edit... underneath that list, select the Add... button near the middle of the window, and enter in your Windows username, and select OK. Make sure your username is highlighted.

After that, try and set the Permissions to Allow:Full Control. Select OK. If it asks you if you would like to apply settings to sub-folders, then yes apply changes to sub-items.
Let me know if this helped you out.

Is it possible to allow a program to only be able to Read a particular file, and have a different program be able to both Read and Write to that same file as it normally would?

A:How do I change read/write privileges of individual programs

I do not think so, if they are started by the same user.

But, you can create a standard user with limited rights. Then edit permissions for that file, so this particular user will only have right to Read and/or execute.

But now you will have to start ONLY that program as that standard user, but because you will be initially logged as normal user, other programs will be started normally and have different permissions for the same file.
Let me know, I can create a bat-file to start program as another user, which will look like this
Code:
Runas /user:johnDoe "C:\myfile.exe"
Or you can start it with Right click menu, but you need to modify it first using this tutorial.

I can log into administrator in safe mode and do anything I want in the program folder.
Make admin available in normal mode.. even the admin is blocked for installing, deleting anything from the programs folder.
I'm lost.

A:Write access to program files folder

If you create a new administrator account in safe mode, are you able to write to the programs folder?
Edit: Is the OS XP Pro or XP Home?

Up until recently I was able to import cds onto itunes with no problem - now it says I do not have write access to the music folder and also no access privileges. I have recently changed my internet browser from ie7 to safari - would that have anything to do with it? I have tried enabling sharing on all music folders but nothing seems to work.

i copied a portion of my sys32 folder to my cdrw drive because i'm stupid. and i wanted to see if i could use it to alter my sys32 on my other machine. don't ask.

yeah, i soon realized the folder's write protected and i can't burn the foler, or delete the copy. now i can't burn anything unless i use a different profile.

i tried properties > uncheck read only. i'm guessing the answer lies somewhere in folder options.

help is appreciated, as always.

I have a Windows 8 computer and a Windows Vista laptop. Both computers are connected to my network. I Have a portable hard drive attached to the Windows 8 computer. I can read the files on the portable hard drive from the Vista computer but I can't copy to them or download to them. When I try to drag a file from the Vista Computer to the Windows 8 computer it says I need permission to perform this action. I think I have the settings correct. I have file and printer sharing turned on. I am running Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 but even with that disabled I still can't copy to the Windows 8 computer. Can anyone help??? Thanks in advance for everyone's help!!

Hi all,

I need to execute the Windows command:

metaflac --dont-use-padding --remove --block-type="PADDING" Filename.flac

For every file in a folder, including every file in the subfolders! (Two levels of subfolders.) The file name extension is as mentioned above .flac.

I understand a batch file is the best way to accomplish this, but what should it contain?

Many thanks!

You need to take ownership of the folder. Right now it is probably owned from where ever you got it. Why do you need write protection removed?

There is plenty of space so im not sure why it is doing this.. i have cleared my temp folder and deleted several programs... the program that is saying error#41 isnt a big program at all.. and i can still download bigger programs and they work without a problem!

My comp kept getting a "failed to load operating system" message when attempting to boot. I ran the FIXBOOT command from the windows CD's recovery console.

Now it starts to load but wont boot because it says its missing "l_ntl.nls". So I got the 6kb file from another comp running 2000 and put it on a floppy to put on the hard drive. In the windows CD's recovery console, I type

copy A:l_intl.nls C:\WINNT\System32
Failed to copy file.

However, copying to the straight C: drive works fine. Is this some sort of permission problem?

I am just wondering as to whether you can alter the write protection in a USB drive.

Do you have to scan the folder - check for errors like in my 500GB Seagate USB external disk drive?

I am just enquirying as Seagate are saying that I must have used it with a Mac which I have not.

I just wish to put some other data on the disk and able to transfer to another computer.

A:Write protected folder - USB Disk Drive

Go into the properties of the drive and make sure all permissions are checked, you should be able to do anything you want with the drive. Is it brand new, did the problem just start ?

How do you custom the icon from regedit for folder that contains data.
I have tried to modify the value for icon 162 with another icon inside the "Shell Icons" folder but does not work. It seams that the only icon that is allowed to be customized in this folder is #3 ( empty folder - no data). Where do i need to modify?

I was viewing a recently closed thread and was interested in a similar task.

I would like to test the ability for my program to not be manipulated by any sort of time scripts created but first need assistance in creating a simple script that would set the system time to a STATIC time or maybe -5 minutes (or even a loop that sets the time). I have the script that syncs the system time to a time server but wanted to see if anyone would provide a sample script that may possibly still be able to change the time in this app.

Here's a good example.

User1 logs in, clicks a button which timestamps and saves this time to our database. This timestamp is in reference to a phone call and we want to be exact or very close to recording the time of the call.

What I DON'T want is for someone to run a script that resets the time or manipulates it, that's what I'm looking to test. Though if I can prove it can be reset we will rewrite this module. Please help me with any sample scripts I could run, maybe a .bat loop file that repeatedly resets the time, etc. I'd REALLY appreciate all examples and thank you in advance
