I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

About 6 months ago i purchased a Toshiba Satellite U400 Laptop, 2 Gig Ram Intel Core 2 Duo Processer, Vista Business. It started out fine but 4 months down the track it started to play up, Windows Media Player would take too long to load parts of a movie when i click along the bar, while watching it. Then movies often weren't being able to be played on WMP. When I'm gaming, i used to experience no lag at all it was perfect. But suddenly, it all changed an i lag so bad. I also wanna remove all traces and thing of previously uninstalled software (im quite OCD). A few other things play up as well which is why i would like to find a way to go back to how i bought the laptop. I bought it brand new with Vista Business Pre Installed onto it. I just want to get back to how i bought it. I think theres something like recovery discs or something? I'm good at computer but just not into this much detail, can anyone help me? PLEASE!

Thanks

A:How To Get My Laptop Back To How I Bought It?

Hello iSmokeJesus, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You can do this to format your hard drive and restore it back to factory settings like the day you first got it.

1. Insert the Recovery disc for Vista into the drive.
2. Restart the laptop and press F12 key when you see the Toshiba logo on the screen.
3. Select CD/DVD drive from the boot menu.
4. Press OK and wait until the laptop boots from the DVD.
5. Select "Recovery to factory defaults" and press OK. It will take some time to reimage the hard dive.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I went to Office depot and bought 2 computers One is a Toshiba $99.99 portable
with vista home premium and 2GB with 15.4 screen. Model A215-s7428. The other is a Compac desktop for$349.00 with a pentium E2140 with 19"wide monitor. I have not opened them yet. I plan to use Visual Studio 2003, 2005, & Visual Studio 6 plus do internet activeity on the one I keep. Which one should I consider keeping because I don't want to keep both machines. I have not openned the packages and I have 14 days to return them. I am not on the go that much so a portable is not really a big advantage but I do want a machine that suits my Visual Basic & older programming needs.
Can anyone discuss the difference in these machines to help me make up my mind. Which one should I look at first? The desktop has a 19" monitor which is nice. Ability to be
portable is somewhat nice.

I usually don't buy computers very much so I am looking the computer that would
stay updated for the longer period of time.
Thank you,
For your opinion.

I bought Friends a while ago and want to back them up

For one of the discs, I can't back them up with DVD decrypter or DVD Shrink or DVDfab because i don't think i can read them. I get the errors:

For DVD Decryptor:

For DVD Shrink (When I try to open disc):

DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.

Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

For DVDFAB:

Get DVD information fail. 4096

On top of that, when I go to explore the disc in my computer, i got the error message

The volume for a file has been externally altered so that the opened file is no longer valid.

Sometimes, I can explore successfully but when i try to go to the VIDEO_TS folder to read the files, I can't read them.

The disc itself has a lot of light scratches on it, but no deep ones.
I tried following guides that suggested to clean the disc with toothpaste but doing so didn't solve my problem.

What can I do to backup this disc? Any other cleaning suggestions? Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Used my computer today without any problems, then shut it down. Two hours later I booted it up and when I came back to use it, it was "Starting Windows" like it did the first day I bought it about 5 years ago. It still had the two accounts that I created, and I do know the passwords. The problem is, when I signed in and they finally loaded EVERYTHING WAS GONE. My screen looks like it does the day you buy a computer and start it up fpr the first time.

Is there anyway to get back everything that is on my computer? And, why did this happen? Why did my computer just revert back to the day I bought it. I've been using Super AntiSpyware, AVG Antivirus, and SpyBot Search and Destroy... I use the PAID versions of these and renew my paid subscription every year. So I believe I am very well protected.

What can I do to revert back to the way my computer was two hours ago? Thanks for any responses that I might get.

Hi I'm new to this. I bought a Dell Optiplex (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.9Ghz Processor, 1TB HDD, 8GB RAM, Windows 10 Home x64) I love this computer works great only trouble is there's a subtle kind of loud sound coming from back sort of like someone drilling down the street it's really annoying. I did some research and this issue can be resolved without repair work if it's not a hard drive placement issue. Can someone please help?? I have used computers alot but never been technician.
Thanks

A:Sound coming from back of bought today refurbished computer

Could be a case fan that's noisy or catching on something, or possibly the power supply fan.

If necessary open the case and try to find out exactly where the sound is coming from.

If you tell us the Service Tag or Express Service Code ( they should be on a label somewhere on the case) or the full model number we can look for a dismantling guide for it.

two week ago, my father bought this old acer laptop from someone who needed money. I just found out that the PC perfomer installed inside says it has 118 errors and its the at the ''Mauvais'' stage in french. Yes my laptop is in french.

The laptop is an Acer laptop who has these stickers on it saying "Intel Atom Inside" "Designated for Microsoft Windows XP" "energy star". On two of the corners of the laptop is imprinted Aspire one.

What Im looking for is for the laptop to be just as if I just bought it from the store, erasing most of the stuff without actually deleting some of the important stuff (like Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, Paint and similar programs).

I don't own any usb drives (except a really small one that is about two gigs) or any disc drive thing.

I dont have much experience in computers nor can have contact with a tech savvy at the moment so please explain to me deeply what to do.

Also, I did not browse the site. So I do not know if a topic like this was already made. Or if this is a the right place but yea.

help anyone?

A:my father bought an old Acer laptop, need help clearing the laptop

The older Aspire Ones are unlikely to have drivers to let them run on Win 7 and XP's end of life is 04/08/2014. I had two Acer Aspire Ones and both were garbage (as were the Acer desktop, keyboard and mouse I had). Personally, I don't feel it's worth messing with. Hopefully, your father can get his money back.

Well, just bought a new laptop from the trading post. Met the guy and everything worked perfectly. Got home, tried to open up my email, and I am blocked by "k9 web protection".

I have tried calling the guy and I get no answer. No idea where he lives. Is there any way to get past this program until I can get it fixed someway?

I don't want to spend alot of money getting it taken off by a computer store unless that is the last resort.

Someone please help. I use my laptop alot for business purposes and this is putting a stranglehold on my progress as of late.

Thanks,

Bill.

A:Just bought a new laptop..

Hi Bill, welcome to TSF

If you've got the guy's phone number, keep trying to contact him for the password, as this is needed to uninstall K9.

The forum rules don't allow us to help with bypassing security settings.

Quote:

From the rules: "You may not ask for assistance to circumvent restrictions or security on any computer system or network.

You could try contacting K9's Support team at http://www1.k9webprotection.com/support/index.php. Obviously, the whole point of security software is to keep unauthorised people out of the system, so they might not be able to help you without proof of ownership.

EDIT: If it's only blocking your ability to read your email, you could go onto another computer, set up a webmail account (google, yahoo, etc), then redirect your regular email to the webmail account which you can view in your browser on the new laptop.

Ok so today I bought a Sony Vaio VGN-NS190J from Abt Electronics. It has great specs i thought for a laptop it has a 2.0 GHZ processor, 4 Gigs of Ram, and blue ray and all. It runs vista which I hate but my wife likes it. So i started it up and noticed it takes like 1:30 to startup at least as where my Dell E1505 which i just restored to XP takes about 20 seconds. Also I have noticed the internet is kinda slow and choppy to. I have tried to uninstall alot of the crapware and think I got it all but still a lil slow. I bought this for my wife to be able to Multi-task as she plays a game called Second Life and this computer cant even seem to Rez the graphics which makes no sense because my 5 year old laptop can rez them. I was just wanting to know do you guys think a fresh copy of Vista not the Sony version would make this run better? OR is their a way to fix these problems? Thanks you guys....

Toby Mac

A:I just bought this laptop....

Hi -

No difference between the "Sony version" of Vista and Vista. I don't see a re-install of Vista helping on a system < 24 hours old.

Did the system come with an Internet Security package like Norton or Mcafee? This is the most likely culprit. If existence of such, it must be taken out w/ removal tool. Program un-install won't do it.

Let me take quick look at sys info - run msinfo32 and save as NFO file -
START | msinfo32 | save as default NFO file

Zip it up and attach to next post.

LOL... well, I bought it new, its not so much have I bought a bad laptop in the 'I bought it second hand off E-Bay and now that bargain is coming back to haunt me' sense, its more along the lines of everything seems to be going wrong with it...

Now, admittedly it is my first laptop but I'm a veteran of the desktop PC and in all honesty I can't see why there would be too great a difference between them, so let me fill you in on the detail, and why I think its a bad egg...

1. I've had the laptop for under 30 days... bought as a Christmas present...

2. The laptop is listed as having 64MB of shared Video Memory, expandable to 128MB [which I've still not figured out how to do!], yet when it came to running a game which required 64MB of Video Memory as a pre-install condition, I was told I wasn't able to install the game as I only had 60MB of video memory...

3. Running AIDA32, my two RAM sticks are recognised as 512MB each... yet when it comes to the overview screen which totals the RAM, it tallys to 1014MB, instead of 1024MB...

4. I've been unable to play Counter-Strike from it... it runs I might enjoy one game, then I'm cut down by the now infamous WSAEINTR error... its commonly attributed to some defect in the Winsock area but the speculative remedies I've tried have failed to rectify the problem

5. As of today, my HD appears to be failing... it was a very sudden thing... had no troubles up to this point, but earlier toda... Read more

Hi,

The attached DMP file is of the SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (3b)bug check.

This indicates that an exception happened while executing a routine that transitions from non-privileged code to privileged code.

This error has been linked to excessive paged pool usage and may occur due to user-mode graphics drivers crossing over and passing bad data to the kernel code.

We have barely any info from the dump itself, so let's go ahead and enable Driver Verifier. Before doing so however, ensure you have the latest video card drivers via the manufacturers website. If you are already on the latest video card drivers, uninstall and install a version or a few versions behind the latest to ensure it's not a latest driver only issue. If you have already experimented with the latest video card driver and many previous versions, please give the beta driver for your card a try.

What is Driver Verifier?

Driver Verifier is included in Windows 8, 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 to promote stability and reliability; you can use this tool to troubleshoot driver issues. Windows kernel-mode components can cause system corruption or system failures as a result of an improperly written driver, such as an earlier version of a Windows Driver Model (WDM) driver.

Hi, I just bought an ACER laptop running windows 7 home premium--it has what I need. I haven't turned it on or started it up. Any suggestions on what do before I start? I have a blank DVD ready to burn. I have heard about "decrapfier" and am quite tech savy. On other computers, I have immediately run a deleted file recovery program that showed what folder/files were removed on brand-new startup. Thank You--Dennis

A:Bought new laptop--what is next step?

Hi Dennis. . .

Boot the system, follow the screens. Once you reach Desktop, allow all Windows Updates to install -

www.update.microsoft.com

If there are OEM pre-installed apps you want to remove, use Revo Free - Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware

If the system came with a trial Internet Security Suite - get rid of it using app manufacturer's removal tool -

Uninstallers (removal tools) for common antivirus software - ESET Knowledgebase

Reboot upon completion. Install MSE - http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

Enjoy Windows 7!

Instead of sending the activation code to my sign-in email, it was sent to my reserve email, which no longer exists on the system, I sent the new telephone number, this has been changed, but I am still not able to open any of my Office applications. Yet
I will be charged the renewal from the date I put in the product key. When one has a product key and then signs in to Live, why does this then not activate? Why when you have changed to my new telephone number, have you not sent me an activation code? With
my reserve email dead, you do not allow me to change it. The only other email I use is Gmail, they are much better than Windows Live, I only use Windows Live to allow me to put new programmes onto my computer, and as usual ten days later I have no use of the
programme I bought. So typically Windows. I have used you since the day you began, what went wrong? You used to function once. These last years have been hell. I wish I had bought an Apple computer and changed everything to Apple. Each time I buy a new laptop
these same issues come up. Please give me access to the Windows Office 365 I bought and put on my computer.

I'm not a tech guru, but managed to set up my router which is working fine on my current laptop. Both desktop, router and old laptop all run XP.

Now I bought a shiny new laptop with Windows 7, and I can't connect. I've tried auto connect, manual connect...entering the Key each time...and it won'd go. I called the store and they said maybe my router won't work with Windows 7. Can this be?

When I set up router, I secured it (don't ask me how...followed some instructions I got from the Internet which I've since discarded), but here's the specs:

Key Provided Automatically: (802.1x): 0
Network Authentication Type: open
Data Encryption Type: WEP
Connection Type: ESS

Can someone help?

Hi there, only a few can be called true tech gurus.

Because my laptop is out of warranty I sent it to a unofficial repair place in Brazil. In addition to the repair, they replaced the memory because it was supposedly not working. The broken memory they removed should be the original one (from factory), but it came with a tag in Portuguese saying "made in Brazil" (Smart brand) and since I bought my laptop in the US I suspect they scammed me. I want to know if it is somehow possible that a laptop bought in the US came with a memory made in Brazil. I really appreciate the help.

Please suggest me the driver for the same. Screen brightness also not working, please suggest driver for also. Whenever I start my computer, widows suggest me to download these drivers, I am completely new with the laptop so not taking any risk. Should I Download This? Downloading suggestion getting from the window

Hi.

I bought a used laptop via craigslist about 2 months ago. Its a Dell Latitude E6400. Anyways, the guy I bought it from had clean installed Windows 7 Ultimate on it, however, he gave me a selfburnt DVD and a hand written product key. This looked suspicious to me but he explained that he lost the Windows box while moving. He showed me that the windows was activated and all, and it being a good deal.. I took it

I have been using it for the past 2 months and no problems yet. Now I want to give this Laptop to my parents who live in another city and are not at all tech savvy, so I don't want that one day they call me up to tell me the Windows showing that it is not genuine. So can you guys tell if this is a genuine copy? If not, I have the OEM Vista that came with it and a Vista product key sticker behind the battery, and I can install that. But I don't want the hassle if Windows 7 is genuine.

Also what does the "Remaining Windows rearm count: 4"mean?

A:Bought a used laptop, is my Windows 7 Genuine?

First the rearm count in the registry shows if the 7 installation wasn't already activated you could extend the trial period. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...-120-days.html

If you have checked for Windows updates during the last two months and they installed witout any program or prompting for the WGA the original disk the previous owner had was the genuine while the other... is considered "casual copying".(not the best situation for you) You may want to consider buying your own disk as far as that is concerned.

To save on price you can opt for an upgrade disk of the same edition since you are planning to pass the pc along. Refer to Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

Re: Most hassle free, non-geek-friendly anti-virus with built in firewall?
One which, once acquired, will work without intruding on me ever again?
Here's the story.

Just bought a used laptop (Win-XP).

Prior to purchase, I'd asked seller if there's a anti-virus downloaded
...(I should have asked if there's an updated one downloaded

Now I see the last AVG update was Feb. 2007!
Oh, great.. so i'm vulnerable again..

Besides the laptop, I have another tiny 12 inch thinkpad that's in its death throes, and "antiquated" 2003 Dell desktop that became frozen (read on..

Some background re: frozen desktop:
.. the last time I posted here, I'd had problems with probable virus or Trojan on my desktop, that happened while Avast shoved a new version in my face, causing me to UnInstall the old Avast (since it was quite unclear to me if I could keep the current Avast while downloading the update. Avast's auto-prompts had seemed to assume everyone's a wiz and knows this.
....anyway, since then, my desktop kept getting slower & slower and now it's frozen.
....I'd posted my issue on Techguy, and was advised to F12 to Boot so as to avoid a complete Reinstallation. I went thru that whole process, but stuff wasn't working. So approx. 2 weeks ago, I tried restoring the desktop to approx. the June restore point (2 months ago),
but far from helping, it got worse. For example, the Avast Icon developed a Red-X, as well as Fir... Read more

Thanks,

A:my laptop stollen bought in 2013

The service tag number is the serial number -- it's on your invoice, and on the box the system came in.  It it can also be obtained by calling Dell support with the order information.  You can also report it stolen in case anyone attempts to contact Dell.

Hi everyone, Almost a year ago I bought a HP Spectre 360 in the US. Up till now I have been very happy with it, but for pure peace of mind I am trying to extend the warranty in the UK (as I am living here now). HP is telling me that it is not possible. Has someone been in the same situation (i.e. buying in X country and extending warranty in Y country?). Is it possible, if so how did you manage to do it? As a side note, their Support Service Agreement does not state that the computer must have been bought in the country of the warranty extension. Many thanks!

A:Laptop bought in the US, want to extend warranty in the UK

Hi, Thats a difficult situation to begin with. First of. If you are going to call HP Support 1800-474-6836 and you are going to extend your computer's warranty. They will definitely ask you for a credit card number and billing address. Ofcourse if your not within US thats gotta be a problem because they use a tool to process payment which accepts US addresses only. The best thing that you could do if you really insist of getting a warranty is talk to your friends that lives within US and ask them if thy could process the warranty for you and pay them afterwards. Regards.
