I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is there a chance do define two different audio levels?
I guess I am not the only one listening to music with my computer - so I'd like to avoid awkward and looooud system sounds while turning up my stereo...

is there a chance to do so? I know that apple has it, not sure bout win7...

A:Low system sound level, high music level?

I think I understand your question. I use powered partner speakers and in my audio controls for my sound card it has output levels and then and then my music manager has it's own. First I set my sound card at around 1/3 volume +- and then go to the mm and set a volume to around 1/2-3/4 full volume. Then at my speakers I adjust the volume to a clear but loud volume. Then going back to the mm I'll use it's volume only which is controlled off my keyboard and it seems to work well. You still will run into situations where things are too load or too soft and other than in your music files there really isn't much you can do about that, just be ready to ride your volume a little.

Does anyone know how to disable Level 1 and Level 2 cache in CMOS
there doesnt seem to be any options in the bios menus (PHOINEX)

A:Disable Level 1 and Level 2 cache in CMOS

If there is no option for it in the BIOS you probably cant do it. Its not advisable anyways - and i also doubt your problems with SP2 come with the CPUs cache.

I have read on here that in the case of reformatting to get rid of viruses that one should do a low level format and I do not understand what that is. I have read the article from Microsoft that some have linked to that is suppose to explain the difference, but it does not explain it to me.

Is formatting using the XP disk considered low level?

Also, how does one go about using third party formatting tools like killdisk or the format tools from the hard drive mfg? As in, do they have to be burned as an ISO to a cd or can the just be copied onto a cd?

I am assuming they have to be put on a cd as I cannot see how they could run off the hard drive, is that correct?

Hi all,
On my Windows 98 computer, on Descent Destination Saturn Lev. 15, after destroying all the ships (except the big one) in the large room where the big monster is, I was able to play "tag" with the large one. I ran around the room, and he moved. I was doing the Trainee level.

Now, on my Windows XP computer, I tried to do the same thing, but on Rookie, and it did not work. He would not move from his spot by the Exit Door. I thought it could have had something to do with the fact that on Trainee I had 3 lives when I began to chase him around, compared to 29 on Rookie. But then I purposely had him destroy me from 29 lives down to 3, and that did not make a difference.Does anyone know if it would be just on Trainee that would cause him to move, or if it is something I may have missed on a previous level?

Thanks, Jason

Here is my problem:
IE 11 keeps resetting the sound level back to 100%.

I?m using several different browsers,(chrome, firefox, IE 11) and I have the sound levels adjusted for each of them. IE is the only one that keeps resetting the sound level back to 100%. I have a Creative/Sound Blaster Audigy sound card (to which I have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest drivers ? no change) which is working fine for everything else ? except IE 11.
I have tried pretty much everything I can think of with no success ? opened to new input?
using Win7 x64

A:IE 11 keeps resetting the sound level back to 100%.

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
I'm not even sure Internet explorer in general cares if you have speakers/ sound or not,
It "ie" certainly doesn't control sound or reset,
There must be a keyboard combination which is being used unknowingly by you,
To rule out third party items,
Use Clean boot,
See what this does,
Use No Add-ons mode/ Click the Start button and type in the search box,
Internet explorer

Click on the suggestion (No Add-ons) or it’s located at,
Start/ All programs/ Accessories folder/ System tools folder/ No add-ons.
If using ie10 the first link will apply to ie9 as well,

Activate EPM if on a 64 bit version of windows,
Add the Run box to the Start menu list,
Open the Run command and Paste this into it and Okay,
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -extoff

I have a standard user that keeps reverting back to the highest level UAC. I've changed it as a local admin (move it down one notch) and as the standard user. It'll stick at times but then it'll revert back to the highest level (always notify). why doesnt a standard user UAC stick to what i change it to. There's no domain or local policy that has been set. Note the default profile has been change to mimic a user I created. example. johndoe after setting it up, was copied, renamed to default and the original default was name to default_old. this was done so any new user will have johndoe setup if that makes sense

A:UAC keeps reverting to back to highest elevated level

Hi maddog909, welcome to 7F!

I found this thread: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/UAC keeps coming back on all by itself. that may offer some insight to your problem especially since that user had also mentioned he didn't have any domains, and no group policy set.
I realize it is a different problem, but it relates because of the steps used in trying to find out what is causing the peculiar action of the UAC.

I couldn't verify some of the files mentioned in that link like, "registry.pol" because I have a version of 7 where the group policy editor was omitted, but you may find an answer to what is changing your settings.

These two quotes from my link are related:

Anyway I did an RSOP.MSC, and noticed this (see attached screenshot).
RSOP screenshot

That is very peculiar - there really shouldn't be anything in the registry.pol file for local policy - local GP is just direct editing of the registry and file system. And your error screen actually implies that something was outside of GPO modifying your settings, but using the domain-based policy caching mechanism to do it. Ordinarily I would say this was likely malware, except that it would be trying to turn your UAC settings off . You using any add-on security software, and can you reproduce your behavior again (or is it fixed for good now)?

This sticks out for me:

Does anyone still play those old Windows card games?

I used to play Freecell years ago and recently seem to have gotten myself re-hooked!

Played it for a couple of weeks and got a little bored so went to play Spider Solitaire for a while. Opened Freecell today and the difficulty level is set to high.

When I go to change it, the difficulty level option is missing.

Things I have tried so far;
Turned Freecell off and back on in Turn Windows features on or off - no change.
Repeated same with the whole MS games package, rebooting in between - no change.
Run Sfc Scannow - no integrity violations found.
System restored as far back as possible - no change.
Run Adwcleaner and Mbam - no change.

Only found this question asked once in Google results but no satisfactory answer.

Ideas, anyone?

I have an epson stylus color 777 printer. How do I get the ink level indicator to work?

A:[SOLVED] ink level indicator

I am assuming that you are referring to the ink level indicator on the software Status Monitor that pops up when you are printing.

If this is the case, possibly you need to reinstall the software that came with your inkjet printer. Also, you may want to download the latest driver ( link below).

I have an epson 800, and as far as I know, there is no need to enable it, it should pop up automatically if it is working properly.

First and most important of all specs and provider!! yay!!!

Modem: Arris TM502G/CT
Provider: Comcast

Issue: Whenever I play an online game or anything that heavily uploads info to the modem causes my modems upstream power level to jump to 58-60 DB which in turn causes my modem to restart it's self for 10-30 minutes which causes great frustration as I can't play my games and my mother cannot do her school work.

What can I do about this short of getting a tech out here, we are moving next month anyways so I don't know if getting a tech out here to look at it would be worth all the trouble, although it will still be a HUGE inconvenience and cause massive frustration. We were going to call comcast tomorrow and run up to the comcast building and get a new modem, but everything I read points to a larger problem then a bad modem. This never happened until we got phone from comcast and got a new modem about ~4 months ago, the modem is connected directly to the walljack upstairs with no splitter.

Is there anything I can do about this short of calling a tech out?

EDIT: As soon as I posted this the modem went out, luckily I got a screen shot of the status page: http://img825.imageshack.us/img825/4716/modemr.jpg

I was looking around the web and thinking of a solution for a multipurpose computer...
so I came across the solution of using a server with VMs. Just to let you know. I'm a first time server builder.

So I thought of starting from a motherboard. I thought of a consumer level motherboard. (Since I'm not looking for a 150$+ motherboard Server motherboards are too expensive also I don't need 3 PCI x2.0 Ports and there are some functions that consumer boards have that servers don't IE: UEFI by asus)

Anyways... I looked at some consumer boards.. Found this : http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131724
it was nice. It satisfied my needs and it fit the bill. It had a LGA 1155 socket but under that it said: CPU types. and it showed i3 i5 and i7. I'm looking for a Intel Xeon series since they are more stable overclocked and have higher reliability since this might be on for 24 hrs.

So. enough talk.. heres my question. Would Server cpus be compatable with consumer motherboards like this one?

I recently secured my home wireless network using WPA2 PERSONAL. My laptop (recent purchase, Windows7) connects just fine. Now I find my wife's work laptop (two to three years old, Windows XP I think) will not connect. She requested that her network admin update the driver for her wireless card (Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN card - Broadcom). Still cannot connect at WPA2 level. I checked properties of her card and there is not an option for WPA2. There was an option for WPA so I selected that, went back to my router, and lowered my network security to WPA. Now she is able to connected.

I'm far from well schooled on wireless security. Is there anything else I should be doing or are we stuck with WPA?

If the card doesn't support WPA2 encryption, you're stuck with using WPA. WPA, while obviously not the strongest choice, is still pretty strong. The good news is....you're not using WEP.

WIN XP Home : my audio device is listed as "RealTek HD Audio output" -

My WIN XP sounds is "No Sounds"

I use VZAccess (Verizon air card) to access the www; when it connects, my system blasts out some kind of electronic sound -- can't call it a musical tone or beep or any such; talked at length with Verizon tech and there's nothing on their end of options/preferences that affects this; also, when I unloaded the RealTek drivers, the sound disappeared, so concluded it's a RealTek issue.

Similar (not same) loud tone/sound happens when I adjust the RealTek master volume slider.

QUITE annoying ... and very unwelcome.

Haven't been able to find any kind of options/preferences/etc. associated with RealTek, so am at a loss about how to get rid of this racket.

Any suggestions? Many thanks.

A:Solved: Connection / volume-level change sounds

I have RealTek on this PC, too. It's the same thing here, except for me it's more about misconfigurations. It's like RealTek is supposed to give you the ability to access the headphone jack and so on, but then the speakers get cut off in Windows XP, and I have to go back in and reconfigure everything. That's stupidly inconvenient. Just want the headphones to work when they are plugged in.

The interface is totally unexplainable too, but, I managed to find a way in the interface to turn everything off and just use the Windows XP sound configuration menu in Control Panel. For volume control, I use a program called Volume^2 (Volume Squared), which can be found on the net as Volume 2. It's really a great program and free. It was written by a Russian so it installs in Russian, but a simple click on the American flag gets you to English. Anyway, kind of a neat app, in that the language development was handled sort of like open source. Very nice program. To change the volume, I have the program set so that I move the mouse to the bottom and raise or lower with the mouse scroll wheel.

Sorry about the rambling there. It sounds like you might be getting feedback from your microphone somehow. If you can turn off everything in RealTek then go to Sounds and Audio Devices in Control Panel, you can set up there which devices you will use for sound. Maybe that will get rid of the noise. To turn off everything in RealTek, you may have to have the icon in the system t... Read more

A couple days ago, but unnoticed by me right away, my computer seemed too loud when there were any sounds being produced. When I clicked on the volume icon in the taskbar next to my clock to lower the sound, however, I was unable to lower the volume past a certain point. It would snap back to this minimum set point after moving the slider lower with my cursor.

After fiddling in the Sounds and audio devices area for quite a while this minimum setting disappeared and I thought the problem was solved, albeit inadvertently. I'm not sure wheat I did to cause this to happen, except that the last thing I remembered doing was to highlight my default audio device (Realtek HD Audio rear output) rather than the item at the top of the "Devices" list under the hardware tab of the Control panel's Sounds and Audio devices.

Unfortunately this "minimum" volume setting has returned, but no amount of fiddling in the Sounds and Audio devices area seems to eliminate it this time.

Would anyone have an idea of how or why this (too loud) minimum volume setting is occurring, and of course, how to correct it again...permanently this time?

I'm not sure this "hardware" forum is where I should be posting this issue, but when I saw "drivers" and other such issues listed I thought maybe this was the best place to start. Incidentally, my default audio device driver is supposedly "working properly", and the troubleshooting list of options d... Read more

I used to be able to burn a full DVD+R in about 20 minutes, but just recently the buffer level in Nero 6 has been going in bursts up to around 90% and slowly down to around 20%, then going back up to around 90% and repeating this over and over agian over the entire burning process. My DVD drive came with my laptop and they said it's a Lite-On Slimtype DVDRW SOSW-852S. I have 512 MB RAM and a 1.6 GHz Pentium M. I've tried other brands of DVD+R's, but they all burn the same way. What could be the problem?

The only way for me to search the internet is to copy and paste the links, if i directly click on a link from a search to goes to anywhere, example; montermarket, lycos, or a site with similar items, 1/8 of the time it goes to a somewhat porn site. All this on redirection.

I have read a ton on redirection and am not sure it it applies to me.
Installed a shorcut to highjack this to my desktop, did a scan and have a notepad of this on the desktop of the scan I believe. Thanks in advance for help. Help for a (beginner+)

I've got a problem with my DVD. Brand isn't important because I replaced the original burner, thinking the burner was bad, with a new one (Sony DRU840a, but like I said, doesn't matter).

I came here because you guys solved the same problem for this guy:

My setup is a bit different. I have an HP a6120n pavillion which has an ASUS P5LP-LE motherboard.

This has 4 SATA connectors and 1 PATA connector. The original DVD burner was SATA. The current one is PATA. Both burners had the same problem. Originally nothing was on the PATA.

In device manager, it shows 2 primary IDE channels and 2 secondary IDE channels in the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers list.

The device type is set to auto detection and transfer mode is set to "DMA if available" for both devices on all 4 channels.

I mention this because, even though I've done this, I'm not entirely convinced this isn't a DMA issue.

To add a little strangeness to the issue, the original drive worked for several months, just fine, before developing this problem. When I replaced the drive, the problem again went away for several months. Two weeks ago, switched the now PATA DVD burner from master to cable select. When I did this, Nero again worked fine until yesterday. I tried switching back to master but that doesn't seem to have any effect any longer.

So, I'm confounded. Oh, I should also mention that i... Read more

I have two computers, one which I dedicate for my kids, and one for me and the wife. Somehow the kids spend most of their time on ours.

Anyway, as a general precaution, I work under two assumptions:

1. Don't stay connected to the internet longer than you need to be.
2. Set up log-in names and restrict who has admin rights.

I have a wireless router (encrypted) and have DSL internet connection.

If I disconnect from the internet when I am done, the kids cannot connect to the internet under their XP login (non administrator). It will not allow them to change the network connections under non-admin log-in.

So which is the lesser of two evils: staying constantly connected to the internet, or giving everyone administrator privileges?

I've used Word 2007's Multilevel List feature many times, but only with numbers (I'm very comfortable with setting up the lists and they've always worked in the past). I now need to do a mixture of numbers and letters on one level and I can't seem to make that happen. For example, Level 3 might typically be 1.1.1, but my client wants 1.1.A. Now, I can make that happen on Level 3 without a problem. The issue starts in Level 4. For example, say I had worked my way down in the document from 1.1.A to 1.1.C and I wanted to insert a Level 4 after this 1.1.C. I would need it to automatically insert a 1.1.C.1, and I can't seem to make that happen when I'm setting up the list. It always wants to change the entire list to either all numbers or all letters. Any help?

Please help as I've been searching everywhere for the solution to this problem for the past 2 days (and nights-=)...

I have a:

Dell Dimension E521
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual
Core Processor 4000+
2.10Ghz, 3Gb Ram
Windows XP Home v2002 SP3.

I recently installed a new WD500gb hard drive to go along with the original WD250GB one.

I backed up some information to the new drive using NovaBackup (I originally tried to backup with Acronis but prefered the Novabackup interface and hence uninstalled Acronis. I also installed Comodo Firewall on that day.

Everything was fine. I wanted to keep the new drive unaccessible to other users on this computer so I installed Faronics DeepFreeze as well as a "disk lock" type of program whose name I do not remember right now. Again, I was not convinced by either of the two software titles being what I wanted, so I uninstalled them both. Everything seemed normal, though.

The other day I tried to check the calendar. When I double clicked it I got the "You do not have the proper privilege level to change the system time" error message.

As mentioned, I've tried every solution I found online, including running Reset.cmd off of subinacl.msi, clearing security events records, and installing/running gpedit but to no avail. gpedit didn't show the keys / values for Security Settings under Local Policies and I do not know how to create them - I found the gpedit instructions here which would have fixed the problem (sup...
