M83 ThinkCentre BIOS downgrade

Q: M83 ThinkCentre BIOS downgrade

Dear fellow community members, I have a huge problem with M83 ThinkCentre. We've bought 80 PCs from a retailer in Germany. All very good condition. These PCs are 2014 release. The problem is their BIOS. It was upgradet to 2016 version and the problem we experience is that whenever we put a GPU in any of the 2 included PCIE ports - it starts, but fails to boot. Same thing on all of them. Do you guys have an idea how to downgrade the BIOS?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have been dual booting with Linux.  I updated the BIOS and am now unable to boot Linux.  As I understand it the previous firmware allowed booting in UEFI mode whilst disabling secure boot.  It seems that this is not possible with the updated firmware.  How do I obtain older firmware versions and downgrade?  Assistance appreciated.

Hi DarrylB44,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can include the machine type model / MTM (ex.80Y7000WUS) from the sticker so that other would be able to check if they have the same variant.

The support site would only show the latest BIOS available so we are hoping you can also mention the current BIOS version you have so fellow Community members can see if they can share their version with you.

Update us soon as convenient.

Hey @Rahul_mk,  I would like to welcome you to the HP Support Community. If my reply resolves your issue or answer your question(s),  please let others know this reply was helpful by clicking the Accept as Solution button. I understand that you did a BIOS upgrade but it did not take well to your HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab522tx. You mentioned that your Notebook is now slow and games and movies are stuttering.  Many HP Notebooks have an HP BIOS Restore tool that may recover the BIOS from an earlier version and restore basic functionality. Please follow the documentation to do a BIOS reset.  Have you tried to perform a hard reset?Which BIOS version did  you upgrade to? You said that Windows 10 is up to date.Have you tried using the HP Support Assistant for updates also?  You can try following the below steps to reload the factory installed BIOS Setup Settings:In the BIOS Setup utility, select the Exit tab.Select Load Setup Defaults.Select Save Changes and Exit (pressing F5 and the Enter key will also load the Setup Defaults).Press Esc and then Enter to exit Setup. If you require further assistance, I would be more than happy to continue to help you. Freedog wrote:I am wondering how I could downgrade the BIOS for a project I am going to attempt that requires BIOS version 1.14 but I currently have BIOS version 2.05 installed.  Anyone know how I would go about downgrading the BIOS?You need to have the version 1.14 BIOS software available on a disk or memory stick.  If you originally had (say) version 1.10 and downloaded and installed version 1.14, you presumably still have version 1.14 on a disk or memory stick.  If you received your laptop with 2.05 already installed, the bad news is that version 1.14 is not available for download from the Lenovo web site.  Your only hope is that someone else has it and can provide it to you. Assuming that you have version 1.14, you need to enter the BIOS and enable "Back Flash", and then save and exit.  Then boot Windows and run the BIOS update application for version 1.14. -- from CyberSimian in the UK

A:Is there a WAY to downgrade the BIOS?

Pull out your CMOS battery and keep it out for an hour or so, with the main battery also removed. Your BIOS should go back to the one that the machine had been shipped with in the first place once you put everything back. Hope this helps.Message Edited by ajkula66 on 07-22-2008 01:16 PM

I would like to know if it is possible to downgrade the BIOS on my HP 655 laptop from the most recent update (F.29) to the most recent previous revision (F.27).  I am experiencing a lack of sound on my laptop despite having uninstalled/reinstalled/re-reinstalled the appropriate HP and Realtek drivers as advised elsewhere in the HP help forums, but I am not able to achieve a lasting resolution.  Someone apparently downgraded their BIOS from F.29 to F.27 and seems to have resolved the issue thus. I have the SoftPaq files for both the BIOSs (sp66770 for F.29 and sp64675 for F.27), and I am unable to bring about an effective downgrade.  No matter what I try, the BIOS still appears to be F.29 when checked in BIOS. I would appreciate either an update to sp66770 which addresses the inherent issue with the sound card or the ability to effectively downgrade back to F.27 so that I can hear music through my speakers without having to uninstall/reinstall drivers, etc., every time I turn my laptop on or off. Thank you.

A:Downgrade HP 655 BIOS from F.29 TO F.27

Where did you download the sp66770 from?  It is not available in the download section of the support portal for the HP 655 notebook. I downloaded the two available BIOS softpaqs from the download section and extracted them to investigate the issue. I do notice that both BIN files have the same file name, are identical in Byte size but have different modification dates.  I wil have to ask HP where the previous versions are located.  Had you considered using the PC Diagnostics firmware management utility to rollback the BIOS to the previously installed version? The BIOS file should be in the HP_Tools Old BIOS folder if you upgraded from it to the current BIOS version.

Hi....... I am hoping that someone may be able to pint me in the right direction.   I have an old IBM Thinkcentre..... I am not sure which exact model it is.  Used to use it in my home office, but moved it out to the entertainment center ages ago and basically use it as a "jukebox" that I have stored all my music into and feed my audio system.  I run nothing else, and it worked fine doing this for years.  Anyway, with a recent update in iTunes, I now am experiencing issues playing back music, as I never have before.   I populated the main board with 4GB of RAM, but when I check in system information...... although it states 4GB installed, it only chows 2.25GB in "total physical memory". I have tried everything I could to increase performance of the resources I have..... disabled what was unnecessary and turned off everything that does not absolutely need to run in the background, but have only improved things a bit.  In doing some research, it was suggested that a  BIOS update "may" allow me to go beyond the RAM limitations of my system.  I figured I would try this out before bagging it and just investing in a new computer. Anyway, I have attached a snapshot of my system configuration.  Can anyone help me find a later version of BIOS?  I have tried searching for it myself, but everything points me back to the Lenovo site, were I cannot find anything.  When I plug in my serial number, it does not find a... Hi there, I recently bought a Lenovo Thinkcentre E73 SFF, which had Windows 10 installed in it. I decided that I wanted to installed Windows 7 instead of using Windows 10. I decided to go into the BIOS to change the boot priority so that my Windows 7 installation drive had priority over the pre-existing boot drive. In the process, I also recall disabling "Fast Boot", as the PC kept skipping the post screen every time I booted up. It continued to do that even when I was in Windows 10, but I've now got Windows 7 installed, but I cannot find any way to access the BIOS of the motherboard. Can anybody advise on how I'd go about getting into the motherboard BIOS? TLDR - I've installed Windows 7 in place of Windows 10, but I cannot get into the BIOS as the computer is forever skipping the post screen on bootup. Does anybody know about how I'd be able to get into the motherboard BIOS? Thanks in advance!P.S. I wish you all a Merry Christmas!!!

I have a brand new HP ProBook 450 G3 and wanted to update the Bios before setting up an operating system. The Built-in Bios update via Network (In the Bios Menu) worked, but it actually downgraded my Bios from 1.02 to 1.01. I've downloaded what seems to be the latest version: 01.10 Rev.A(12 Apr 2016) (sp75637.exe)Ran the exe to create a Rescue USB Flash Drive. The update function in the Boot Menu (Esc during boot) didn't find the file. I manually moved it to the folder it was expecting and then the upgrade worked, but it sent my device to an infinite reboot loop.Luckily the network updater allowed me to downgrade to 1.01 again. So what is this? Hello everyone,

I upgraded the BIOS on my Z30-B-119 laptop, and it is much worst than the original BIOS so I would like to downgrade it.
There was no way to save the original BIOS when updating and the previous BIOS is not available on the website.

Do anyone have the original BIOS and knows how to extract it?

Or maybe someone knows how to contact Toshiba technical team directly? (Seeing what they implemented in new BIOS, I have no hopes they read this forum or care about user opinions.)

If you wonder why I want to downgrade and what is wrong with it, see below for explanation.

I was convinced that the new BIOS would fix the problem with the fan, which switched on way too early, but it turned out they made it much worst! Now the fan switches on at 42?. Before it was 50?, which was already a stupid choice of Toshiba engineers, providing that the temperature rating of this CPU is 105? so they could keep the laptop quiet at least up to 60?, especially that many people complain about the fan in this model. Instead, Toshiba did the opposite and lowered the temperature even more.

Seeing how senseless choices their engineers make, I will never buy another Toshiba and will not recommend anyone buying their products. But since I already made the mistake an bought a Toshiba laptop, I hope I will be able to downgrade the BIOS or contact them to ask for an update.

Let me know if you know how to do it.

A:I can not do downgrade BIOS 1545

Hi Jorwen,
May I know the reason you are trying to downgrade BIOS?
Dell doesnot recommend downgrading BIOS beacuse every BIOS update would have some new fixes and enhancements.
Refer the following link for more information about downgrading BIOS on the computer:
http://dell.to/14HF2IZ

During BIOS update verify that the computer is connected to an AC Adapter.
Disconnect any third party peripherals connected to the computer before performing BIOS update.
Do not turn off the computer during the BIOS update.
Do not restart the computer during the BIOS update.
Ensure battery charge is more than 30% during BIOS update.

Note: Plug your computer to a good, working wall jack before you update the BIOS. If you experience a loss of AC power or a significant voltage sag/spike during the BIOS flash, you will either have to buy a new BIOS chip or buy a new motherboard.
Awaiting your response!

T460 Machine Type Model: 20FN003GPB;Actual BIOS Version: 1.22 1.22(R06ET48W) 1.09(R06HT29W)I cant downgrade to any lower.downgrade prevention in bios is disabled.

A:T460 can't downgrade bios

That's a property of the BIOS version you have installed itself, not the BIOS setting.

This normally happens when a new version includes security updates.  Per:

https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/r06uj49w.txt

If the UEFI BIOS has been updated to 1.22 or higher,
it is no longer able to roll back to the version before 1.22
for security improvement.
What are you trying to fix by a roll-back?  The latest version is 1.23.  Have you tried that?

My HDD password started to fail after I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version (1.43). Something similar to what is described here, but on a W520: https://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/solutions/sf10-d0121 The workaround is to downgrade to the original BIOS version (1.27) and remove the password option, but I'm getting an error when I try to downgrade ("BIOS image file does not match this system. The utility process has not completed."). I tried several different BIOS versions listed here: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/ca/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/THINKPAD-W-SERIES-LAPTOPS/THINKPAD-... I tried both .exe option and the ISO boot disk option, and got the same error. Is the W520 BIOS downgradable? Any help will be appreciated.

Laptop HP g6-2054er, OS Windows 7 64x. I updated the BIOS to F.2A. How can I return F. 03? When I run sp57047.exe - "This BIOS file is not allow to flash. The flash process will be terminated." Help me please.

A:HP g6-2054er downgrade bios

I do not see a version F.03 available at the software download portal for your notebook. Use the UEFI PC Hardware Diagnostics - Firmware Management utility to attempt to rollback to the previous BIOS version. Important !! - connect the power adapter. and do not disconnect it or turn off the notebook once you are in the process or updating or rolling back a BIOS. Failure to pay attention to this warning will result in a "bricked "or useless laptop. Press the power button and immediately begin tapping on the F2 key. Use the touchpad to select Firmware Management. Now select and click on rollback BIOS.

Some time in 2015 Lenovo updated many of their BIOS versions to address a security vulnerability describe here:https://support.lenovo.com/br/en/product_security/s3_boot_protectFor my G50-45 notebook that says the first BIOS version containing this fix is 2.03 A2EC34WW 2015/03/23.My computer currently has the lastest - A2CN38WW(V2.06) date: 07/15/2015I think the newer BIOS versions have broken the suspend/sleep, hybernate, and wakeup funtionality of my computer when running Linux (my system is dual-boot Windows 10 and Ubuntu Linux).  Can I downgrade my BIOS version?  If I downgrade will Windows 10 still function properly? What is the minimum BIOS version I should use and where can I download it from?  It seems Lenovo only supplies the latest version.  The BIOS Readme file says that the version prior to A2EC34WW is  (A2CN26WW)1.08 2014/11/04 but this was before Windows 10 came out, so will it still work for Win10?

I have been dual booting with Linux.  I updated the BIOS and am now unable to boot Linux.  As I understand it the previous firmware allowed booting in UEFI mode whilst disabling secure boot.  It seems that this is not possible with the updated firmware.  How do I obtain older firmware versions and downgrade?  Assistance appreciated.

Hello! I have had my laptop on service for a simple fix of the USB ports and when i got the laptop back the service center had updated my BIOS to ver 1.16 (jduj06ww.exe) according to levono support site. Problem is that I need to have BIOS ver 1.06 flashed into my laptop because of later versions the DVMT pre-allocated size to 128mb and it wont work with OS X. When i try the BIOS flash file ver 1.06 from the lenovo support site (jduj01ww.exe) the laptop reboot and when the flash process is about to start i simply get the "secure flash authentication failed" message and the laptop reboot. And yes i have rollback enables in the security setting in the BIOS settings. Is there something i have missed? or is the BIOS just locked for downgrading? Someone have any advice? I need to get below BIOS ver 1.12 at least i think but 1.06 would be the best. Is there a way to flash the bios from DOS and force it? Regards Fred.

A:L450 BIOS Downgrade help!

Hi Spreast,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums!

Pull out your CMOS battery and keep it out for an hour or so, with the main battery also removed. Your BIOS should go back to the one that the machine had been shipped with in the first place once you put everything back.

Please let me know whether the above step helped you.
Thank you, have a good day.

Hi everyone
at startup my laptop is not recognizing the SSD HDD (Samsung 840 evo) and I am forced to set "Battery life" in the BIOS under the SATA settings, in order to make it work.
This is a very common problem and I am really surprised and disappoined that Toshiba did not fix it.

I read that a downgrade to BIOS 1.20 (UEFI) will fix the issue as that version is the last working. I have 2 questions:
- where can I find the 1.20 BIOS file since is nowhere in Toshiba website?
- how can I downgrade the BIOS as, in any case, the system is recognizing that I want to downgrade to an older version and is stopping the procedure?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Fabrizio

I'm trying to resolve an issue where my M4600 running WIndows10 will not go into Sleep mode.  It Hibernates instead.  This started after upgrading the BIOS to A17.  I have tried all combinations of settings in Advanced Power Mgmt.
Powercfg reports that the S1 state is not supported.  Thus I'm trying to go back to the previous BIOS version (A16).
When executing the bios executable (M4600A16.exe) from a bootable dos usb drive, the process upgrade begins, but never goes thru the update phase.  The laptop immediately reboots with no change to the bios.
Appreciate any suggestions.
