M83 ThinkCentre BIOS downgrade

Q: M83 ThinkCentre BIOS downgrade

Dear fellow community members, I have a huge problem with M83 ThinkCentre. We've bought 80 PCs from a retailer in Germany. All very good condition. These PCs are 2014 release. The problem is their BIOS. It was upgradet to 2016 version and the problem we experience is that whenever we put a GPU in any of the 2 included PCIE ports - it starts, but fails to boot. Same thing on all of them. Do you guys have an idea how to downgrade the BIOS?

Preferred Solution: M83 ThinkCentre BIOS downgrade

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What is the model number of M83? Tower, SFF, Tiny? What is your current BIOS level? What graphics card are you trying to use?A link to a website showing graphics card would help (Amazon, Alibaba, etc).

I have been dual booting with Linux.  I updated the BIOS and am now unable to boot Linux.  As I understand it the previous firmware allowed booting in UEFI mode whilst disabling secure boot.  It seems that this is not possible with the updated firmware.  How do I obtain older firmware versions and downgrade?  Assistance appreciated.

Hi DarrylB44,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can include the machine type model / MTM (ex.80Y7000WUS) from the sticker so that other would be able to check if they have the same variant.

The support site would only show the latest BIOS available so we are hoping you can also mention the current BIOS version you have so fellow Community members can see if they can share their version with you.

Update us soon as convenient.

Computer will not boot into or past BIOS since BIOS update to FWKT86A  on 5/30/2018, unless dongel from Microsoft wireless key board and mouse is removed prior to start up. With the dongle removed maching boot normally and works with the Microsoft keyboard and mouse when plugged in. Is there a fix for this or do I need to roll back my BIOS?

Hey @Rahul_mk,  I would like to welcome you to the HP Support Community. If my reply resolves your issue or answer your question(s),  please let others know this reply was helpful by clicking the Accept as Solution button. I understand that you did a BIOS upgrade but it did not take well to your HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab522tx. You mentioned that your Notebook is now slow and games and movies are stuttering.  Many HP Notebooks have an HP BIOS Restore tool that may recover the BIOS from an earlier version and restore basic functionality. Please follow the documentation to do a BIOS reset.  Have you tried to perform a hard reset?Which BIOS version did  you upgrade to? You said that Windows 10 is up to date.Have you tried using the HP Support Assistant for updates also?  You can try following the below steps to reload the factory installed BIOS Setup Settings:In the BIOS Setup utility, select the Exit tab.Select Load Setup Defaults.Select Save Changes and Exit (pressing F5 and the Enter key will also load the Setup Defaults).Press Esc and then Enter to exit Setup. If you require further assistance, I would be more than happy to continue to help you. Hi there, I recently bought a Lenovo Thinkcentre E73 SFF, which had Windows 10 installed in it. I decided that I wanted to installed Windows 7 instead of using Windows 10. I decided to go into the BIOS to change the boot priority so that my Windows 7 installation drive had priority over the pre-existing boot drive. In the process, I also recall disabling "Fast Boot", as the PC kept skipping the post screen every time I booted up. It continued to do that even when I was in Windows 10, but I've now got Windows 7 installed, but I cannot find any way to access the BIOS of the motherboard. Can anybody advise on how I'd go about getting into the motherboard BIOS? TLDR - I've installed Windows 7 in place of Windows 10, but I cannot get into the BIOS as the computer is forever skipping the post screen on bootup. Does anybody know about how I'd be able to get into the motherboard BIOS? Thanks in advance!P.S. I wish you all a Merry Christmas!!!

Hi....... I am hoping that someone may be able to pint me in the right direction.   I have an old IBM Thinkcentre..... I am not sure which exact model it is.  Used to use it in my home office, but moved it out to the entertainment center ages ago and basically use it as a "jukebox" that I have stored all my music into and feed my audio system.  I run nothing else, and it worked fine doing this for years.  Anyway, with a recent update in iTunes, I now am experiencing issues playing back music, as I never have before.   I populated the main board with 4GB of RAM, but when I check in system information...... although it states 4GB installed, it only chows 2.25GB in "total physical memory". I have tried everything I could to increase performance of the resources I have..... disabled what was unnecessary and turned off everything that does not absolutely need to run in the background, but have only improved things a bit.  In doing some research, it was suggested that a  BIOS update "may" allow me to go beyond the RAM limitations of my system.  I figured I would try this out before bagging it and just investing in a new computer. Anyway, I have attached a snapshot of my system configuration.  Can anyone help me find a later version of BIOS?  I have tried searching for it myself, but everything points me back to the Lenovo site, were I cannot find anything.  When I plug in my serial number, it does not find a... A:Is there a WAY to downgrade the BIOS?

Pull out your CMOS battery and keep it out for an hour or so, with the main battery also removed. Your BIOS should go back to the one that the machine had been shipped with in the first place once you put everything back. Hope this helps.Message Edited by ajkula66 on 07-22-2008 01:16 PM

I would like to know if it is possible to downgrade the BIOS on my HP 655 laptop from the most recent update (F.29) to the most recent previous revision (F.27).  I am experiencing a lack of sound on my laptop despite having uninstalled/reinstalled/re-reinstalled the appropriate HP and Realtek drivers as advised elsewhere in the HP help forums, but I am not able to achieve a lasting resolution.  Someone apparently downgraded their BIOS from F.29 to F.27 and seems to have resolved the issue thus. I have the SoftPaq files for both the BIOSs (sp66770 for F.29 and sp64675 for F.27), and I am unable to bring about an effective downgrade.  No matter what I try, the BIOS still appears to be F.29 when checked in BIOS. I would appreciate either an update to sp66770 which addresses the inherent issue with the sound card or the ability to effectively downgrade back to F.27 so that I can hear music through my speakers without having to uninstall/reinstall drivers, etc., every time I turn my laptop on or off. Thank you.

A:Downgrade HP 655 BIOS from F.29 TO F.27

Where did you download the sp66770 from?  It is not available in the download section of the support portal for the HP 655 notebook. I downloaded the two available BIOS softpaqs from the download section and extracted them to investigate the issue. I do notice that both BIN files have the same file name, are identical in Byte size but have different modification dates.  I wil have to ask HP where the previous versions are located.  Had you considered using the PC Diagnostics firmware management utility to rollback the BIOS to the previously installed version? The BIOS file should be in the HP_Tools Old BIOS folder if you upgraded from it to the current BIOS version.

I would quit while you are ahead.

You only ever upgrade a BIOS to correct a hardware issue that you are actually experiencing. A real percentage of BIOS flashes go bad, and on a laptop that usually means the motherboard is toast.

Flashing the BIOS is not a recreational activity, I would only do it if a gun was pointed at my head...

Dear Lenovo ThinkCentre Team, please let me share my deep frustration about you inability to provide a proper Firmware Update routine, even after several years into the Windows 10 era. How hard can it be to sign your filter drivers with valid certificates that did not expire 2 years ago with an obsolete SHA1 routine? You might think that those certificates don't matter, but yes they do, if you have HVCI and credential guard activated. In this case you will be unable to install the firmware update and if you are really lucky you will also get a nice blue screen as reward. Funny enough, you have already a working solution. The firmware updates published in the Microsoft Update Catalog. Unfortuantely they are all outdated. Ok, thank you for listening to my pre-weekend rant ... and get your act together! Peter

Hello there, I have (for the first time) a problem with my Lenovo ThinkCentre E73. I recently updated the BIOS (it was one of the initial versions and had some issues) to the latest version. I use a KVM (Keyboard Video Mouse) switch. This KVM switch has some USB inputs (for keyboard, mouse, USB stick or whatever) and the USB part is based on a (switchable) USB HUB. But when i connect my USB keyboard to this HUB, the Lenovo BIOS doesn't recognize it (keyboard does'nt work, and the Lenovo shows error 0211, no keyboard connected. The KVM itself isn't faulty, in Windows everything worked fine. Also the previous used BIOS version has no problems with the KVM and works fine also. There where no changes made in the hardware setup. When i plug my keyboard directly into the Lenovo the BIOS recognized it. When i use a simple (non powered) USB hub and plug my keyboard in, the BIOS doesn't detect is again. So it looks like the new BIOS has some issues with USB hubs. Not only my keyboard would be detected, also USB memory sticks are not visible by the boot manager. Can anybody help me, or can Lenovo made a change to the new BIOS version so i can use my KVM again into the BIOS? Thank you!

I have a ThinkCentre E63z 10D4 model all-in-one.  I attempted to update the BIOS using the Flash UEFI BIOS update (Flash from operating system version).  This seems to have failed spectacularly, as the computer will no longer boot.  It will power on, show the Lenovo splash screen, go to a black screen, then reboot endlessly like this.  I have tried following every guide there is to recover this thing.  I have tried making a USB disk and booting from it, but it seems that USB devices aren't even being initialized during POST.  No lights come on the keyboard at all, and no input seems to work.  I have tried F1, F2, F12, holding down the function key while trying these, and absolutely nothing changes.  I got so desperate that I pulled a CD drive out of another computer and held the thing together with it plugged into the HDD SATA connector on the main board - no dice there either.  Won't even spin up the disk. What am I doing wrong?  How can I recover the BIOS on this thing?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can I upgrade ThinkCentre M59p 9965A2U Bios 5CKT50AUS to 5CKT77A with Windows 10?Lenvo does not mention Windows 10 in the bios upgrade website

A:ThinkCentre M59p Bios and Ram Upgrade

Best to use CD ISO method for all BIOS updates, which makes it independent of the OS.

Good Afternoon, I have about 300 of the ThinkCentre M710q coming my way and I have been trying to setup an automated process to update the BIOS as well as import BIOS settings.  These machines are being setup with Win7 Enterprise and will Legacy PXE boot. So far I am able to update the bios without an issue.  However I am not able to apply settings to the BIOS using the CFGWIN tool.  I am able to capture the settings, but upon restoring them I recieve the error: Restore Failed:  "Secure Boot,Disabled;[Optionalisabled,Enabled;". (MFGDone Set but Password not input or error) These are fresh machines out of the box with no passwords set for the BIOS.  They also have had their BIOS updated to the most current version. Has anyone else ran into this?  I also tried doing the same thing using the SRWIN.exe utility to export to a dat file, an I get the error: The input password is not correct.Return Code 40000001h Please let me know if you have run into this and perhaps found a solution/work around. Thank you!Michael

Hello, I need help to downgrade bios because on 2.71 It is not possible to DSDT override for eGPU setup,it was able on 2.68 On 2.71 when I did DSDT override windows 10 won't boot up, it says ACPI BIOS error. I had to use system restore to make it boot again. not just win 10, I've swapped my ssd that contains win 8.1 , the result was same. I don't think this is because of windows but rather the bios itself Please lenovo, make this possible again.Thank you

I'm trying to resolve an issue where my M4600 running WIndows10 will not go into Sleep mode.  It Hibernates instead.  This started after upgrading the BIOS to A17.  I have tried all combinations of settings in Advanced Power Mgmt.
Powercfg reports that the S1 state is not supported.  Thus I'm trying to go back to the previous BIOS version (A16).
When executing the bios executable (M4600A16.exe) from a bootable dos usb drive, the process upgrade begins, but never goes thru the update phase.  The laptop immediately reboots with no change to the bios.
Appreciate any suggestions.
