I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I have become one of the many with a PC infected by 2 fake security scams (Cyber Protection Center and Cyber Security). I purchased Spyware Doctor recently, thinking that this would get rid of it, since the free scan did identify them, or so I thought, but it has failed. Can someone possibly advise me on how to get rid of them please? My computer has slowed down a lot, and the constant pop-up messages are really annoying.

I have a HJT log file, below.

Many thanks in advance.

I am playing UT2004 on a mutated server on a regular basis. It is not my server, we play with a mutated rifle and a transponder. I am having issues with when I am using the transponder in rapid succession it will switch back to the rifle. The speed which I transpond seems to make a difference, the faster I operate the quicker it will switch to the rifle. This is a new issue and have had no problems in the past with extremely rapid transponding repeatedly. I have replaced my mouse, new mouse driver, deleted game cache, lowered mouse sensitivity game settings as well as puter mouse settings, cleaned the graphics card and heat sink. I need some help with this one, any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know is going on with this game demo, but for some reason my textures in the game fail to display properly, the only way I could explain it is to show a screen shot.

But for some reason the damn game doesn't have an SS Function. )

Basically the textures work fine during the cutscene, frame rate is superb. Then it goes to the actual gave and the textures star fading away till its all black, again the framerate is fine. The game is still functioning, because I'm still being plugged by enemies Anyone have a clue what is going on?

Hi there there,
I see someone had a solution for this. I hope this works for you!
"I stumbled on a solution for the mouse inversion problem in wanted wof.
As you know there is no option for inverting the vertical axis when playing with keyboard+mouse.

Drawback : you actually need a game pad to make this work.

1.plug in your game pad, start the game
2.Choose to use the pad when it asks and...
3. ... go to options/controller menu. Magically an inversion option for each axis is added. Make your changes and apply them.
4. Exit and restart the game, choosing this time the keyboard as control method. (You don't need to unplug the pad.)
5. Mouse look/aim should be inverted now.

My pad is a logitec rumblepad2 usb. Haven't tested it in other PCs."

cheers!

Hello everyone! Only recently have I started reading up on malware/trojans. I have downloaded the ff programs: HijackThis, AdAware with the plug-in, SpyBot, SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard and SpamIt. Please enlighten me as to whether I am using them correctly. Is there anything I need to do before running the programs? I know I have to close all windows before I start. I read somewhere I have to disable system restore. Is this really necessary? If so how do I do this and when everything's done how do i undo it?

This is how I do it: In normal mode (should I be doing this in safe mode?), I start with AdAware cleaning up whatever needs to be cleaned then proceed with SpyBot. Teatimer is installed with my SpyBot, is this causing conflict with AdAware? How do I circumvent this? When both programs have fixed everything, I use hijackthis, save my log, and send it to people like you guys I already downloaded the guide on analyzing HJT logs but I still alck the confidence and knowledge to do it myself. In time maybe.

Concerning SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard, won't there be any problems if I have both in my system? Do I need both or should I just use 1? If so, which do you recommend?

Too many questions I know. I hope you guys can help me

Help!

I have problem running Lucas arts’ “Secret Weapons over Normandy” on my Win XP computer. SWoN needs DirectX 9.0b. I’ve got 9.0c.

When trying to start the game I get the message:

“This game needs to update your DirectX installation before you can proceed! Do you want to perform the update now?”

Then I press YES and get the message:

“Congratulations! DirectX is now properly installed on your system.”

I press OK. Then nothing happens. When I restart the program I just get the same message again: “This game needs to update your DirectX installation…”

What to do?

A:Problems with DirectX in Secret Weapons over Normandy

Dan

I used to play SWON on my windows XP computer with no problems. Since I have installed SP2 I have tried to install SWON 4 times and continue to experience the same problems as you. I know I have DX 9.0 installed and pass the 3D hardware tests in DXdiag, but still analyze your computer tells me I do not have DX9.0 and that I have no 3D hardware installed! I have updated my video card drivers as well.

Have you had any luck getting this working that you can share with me?

I installed it correctly (from the cd), but when i want to play it says: please insert correct cd?

I never changed cd. If i start my normal bf42 i can select SW in the custom menu, but then i get the same error: please insert correct cd? I have 2 cd drives one for bf1942 cd 1 or 2 and in the onther one is SW.

I have all three games, and I am trying to play the new one The Secert Weapons of WW 2 Maps. That is the one giving me the errors. I have also completely removed BF 1942 from the PC, and installed all three games, and it still gives me that error everytime.

I was looking forward to reviewing this game today, but the game keeps giving me errors. It keeps stateing that I need to insert the correct CD into the drive, when it is already in there. have tried two different CDs of BF 1942 SWofWWII, and still getting the error.

No matter what I do, nothing works. You might want to hold off of buying this til they fix it.

Here you can find out some information about all the weapons and enemies in Cryostasis: Sleep of Reason.

Weapons:

Light Green = Combat ineffective
Green = Weak
Yellow = Decent
Orange = Good
Red = Very effective

1. Fists: You only get bare fists in flashbacks, and it is impossible to kill the only enemies with your bare fists. Your swings do however drive off the enemies.

2. Fists w/ Lock & Chain: Early in the game you pick up a lock/chain on a door, and you begin to use them as your only weapon wrapped around your right fist. You can kill early enemies with it, but then they become rather useless on later enemis.

3. Fists w/ Valve: A little later into the game, you find a loose valve in a pipe. This becomes your second weapon. It is virtually the same as the weapon above but slightly stronger.

4. Fire Axe: After saving a man in a flashback, you are rewarded with the fire axe you picked up in the past. This is a useful tool that you should continue to use throughout the whole game. It is powerful, and if you are fighting vicious enemies, shoot them with your gun(s) first and when they get close, whip out this fire axe and finish them off.

5. Flare Gun: The flare gun fires flares (surprise?) that bounce off whatever inanimate object you shoot at. It sticks to enemies and seems to make them more vulnerable to your attacks (since they hate heat). Sadly you can't use this as a portable internal heat source. You find this in a locker right before you fight the f... Read more

A few days ago my laptop received a file which I promptly deleted. Since then, though, it has had the fake "malware defense" program on it. The one that throws up 3 -4 pop ups with fake warning errors to try and make you buy their program.

I have run Avast Home every day since then. It comes up with new files each time, but can only delete 1 out of each batch it comes up with. The rest all get errors. I have tried to run Malware Bytes in both regular and Safe Mode, and it will not even open. Niether will TDS Killer or even my Disk Defragment.

I found one of the rogue files within my startup file in msconfig and got rid of it. Now the pop ups have stopped, but nothing will run correctly and I still get constantly re-directed while I try to surf in Firefox. Not sure what else I can do!

Hi,
Install windows 10 and confirm activation as suggested in forums. Downloaded Windows Media Creation Tool to create fresh reinstall. Ran it to create 64 bit ISO. Now using the ISO to reinstall windows 10. At 30% restore, it failed. I tried various recovery. Even did chkdsk on drive c with /r and also with /f. Same problem again - failure at about 30% restore.

Reading in forums, I discover Refresh Windows Tool(exe). Downloaded and ran it (tool) to download Windows 10.
What I dislike. No Pause or ability to use a download manager. When this download of about 3gb is done, where is it saved? How to use? Yea, automatic for I still have prior install files (programs, data folders, etc) which means nothing was done. Did restart hoping for a fresh reinstall - no changes. Thus I am posting in this forum with paragraph 1 (media tool) and Refresh tool (paragraph 2).

Went into BIOS startup and told it to use DVD (boot order priority), but instead window normal login was done and given. Thus, use window recovery within to execute the ISO.

I have just recently acquired this evil virus. I hve followed the steps on your removal guide but I have immediately come across some hurdles. The rkill doesnt seem to work. It just keeps on scanning and never finishing. I have scanned several times to see if it would ever work but it just keeps scanning without ever finishing, so far the record time is 45 minutes.
Naturally malwarebytes doesnt work anymore (already had it on my computer) and now it seems that rkill doesnt work either.

So I was wondering if someone can help me out with the rkill problem and tell me whats going on with this virus. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello friends! I just recently purchased this laptop which comes with 60 days of free Norton. I am not to thrilled with it. This A/V seems to hog the whole system. On my previous system I had Bitdefender free, which was pretty good. I thought I might try out something different though. Like maybe AVG or Avira. Just thought I might get some input from you fine folks. Also, if I go back to Bitdefender-what might be a good 2nd layer of defense? Maybe SPYBOT? SpywareBlaster? Not much of a "Safe Surfer" in case you are wondering. Thank you in advance for any suggestions. PEACE

Hey mate, I used to use AVG (paid), but I now use Microsoft Security Essentials, WITH Spybot, Superantispyware (only used sometimes), and Malwarebytes. I also am not much of a "safe surfer", BUT I don't go to porn sites which I'm sure would be trojan central, and those proggys do me fine now.

Hello and Welcome to the forums!

My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems. HijackThis logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that it happens.

Before we start: Please be aware that removing Malware is a potentially hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.

Because of this, I advise you to backup any personal files and folders before you start.

Somethings to remember while we are working together.
1.Please do not run any other tool untill instructed to do so!
2.Please reply to this thread, do not start another!
3.Please tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
4.Please tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
5.Please try as much as possible not to run anything while executing a fix.

If you follow these instructions, everything should go smoothly.

I was reluctant to get into Vista this early in the game but I was itching to do a new build for myself and doing another build with XP again for myself seemed pointless.

For the record, I started out trying to do do a clean install of Vista onto a socket A/463 motherboard with an AMD XP 3000+ processor with a gig of ram, a 6600gt card and a raptor hard drive. It was problematic at best so I gave up on trying to save a buck on hardware and decided to build an entirely new system around Vista.

I bought the following list of hardware from newegg for about a grand and slapped it together. It has not given me one single bit of trouble. I have been running it for a couple of weeks nonstop and it works just as well as XP has for me.

Is it better? I think anyone who has used it for more than a couple of days would have to agree that it is not as bad, or doomed as some people would have us believe.

Vista does seem to want and need late model hardware with lots of ram and a decent mid range video card at least. One should keep in mind that the days of 300 watt power supply's has passed. I think to stay out of trouble with todays collection of hardware that makes up a basic home PC today , you need to accept that you need at least a good quality 450 watt unit or higher.

Most people don't want to spend 100 bucks or more for a power supply but if they did, they would probably discover that many of the transient problems that a PC can and will exhibit are eliminated with... Read more

I think that malware defense is still on the hard drive even though Malwarebytes Anti-Malware has been run successfully 4 times, and also supposedly removed these items: Trojan.Vundo, and a root key H8SRT.... etc. Tried to do a system restore but you click "Next" and nothing happens. Not sure if this is malware or a trojan or what. It'll be ok for awhile after I run the MMAM but then if I restart it it's all right back again. It is preventing me from opening certain webpages and wouldn't let me open MMAM until I tricked it using your advice. Well, I had Mcafee virusscan installed. But I still somehow managed to get my laptop affected with malware defense. Looking at the popups, I did google (where I noticed the links getting redirected. I tried to open internet options from IE browser, it was grayed out. Then I went the control panel route and didn't notice any proxies in lan settings. I still went ahead and clicked on restore IE settings option. Later I followed the manual process to remove registry keys for malware defense, removed the malware defense directory and the desktop links. Things seemed to be settled, but no, after some time, I heard background music and realized the issue is not completely resolved. I had lost the mcafee security center. So tried to reinstall it, It got reinstalled, but still the security center wont come up, the google search links are getting redirected. Then I decided to follow the guide to remove malware defense on this site - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-remo...malware-defense. At this point, it showed me that 8 objects were infected (one of them was the explorer.exe...which I should not have really removed) I asked all 8 to be removed, it did, then it asked for reboot, I said ok, Now the laptop just wont give me login screen. it keeps rebooting all the time. After 2/3 recycles, I hit F8 to get into safe mode (No networking). Any advice/directions how I can get out of this mess? Thanks a lot.Read that I need to attach DDS output for more info. My daughter's laptop got infected with Malware Defense. It started to give windows error messages everytime we boot up and login to a profile. it would then go to a BLUE SCREEN (DOS) with a full page of error message, saying something like Windows has detected an error and has to shut down to prevent damage to the system. I am not sure if it is a hardware problem or something on the OS. However, when i boot up in Safe Mode, i can access IE. But the virus would seem to bring me to different websites from what I was typing in the URL. I applied the Malware Defense removal guidelines as stated here in this forum, using Malwarebytes Anti-malware and this seemed to help a bit. I am now able to surf the web properly without being redirected to another website. I am now also able to run McAfee scan (before Malwarebytes, McAfee would not run) McAfee scan was able to find several viruses which it deleted and/or quarantined. However, I still can not boot up in Normal Mode. It will still come up with a Windows errorr message and BLUE SCREEN, shut down. I am not sure exactly what kind of virus this is but it is called Major Defense Kit. from doing research from another computer i know that this is a virus that is a fake virus protection program that runs upon starting your computer and does a fake computer scan and tells you that you need to buy the full version to fix all the problems. I have found programs that are supposed to get rid of this virus on another computer but the problem is i cannot access anything on the infected computer except for "my computer". What happens is the program starts and goes threw its fake scan and tells me i need the full version. Upon finishing the scan "my computer" opens, and then when i hit "hide" on the Major Defense Kit box in the upper right corner it has a popup that says something along the lines of "your computer is not protected and you need to buy the full version and it gives the options "install heuristic module" ( the "full version") and "continue unprotected". when I hit the latter option the program goes away but the entire screen is just black except for the "my computer" box. Also when i try to open something or do something from this window (such as windows system restore or mozilla firefox) another popup comes with the message "the application was successfully launched but forced to shut down because the application was infected by a malicious program... ...It is highly recommended to install ... Hello J-Dog9021,

See if you can download these to your infected computer. If not then download through your clean one and transfer and then follow the instructions.

Please download OTH.scr to your desktop

Note: If you are using Firefox right-click and use "Save link As". Otherwise, on some systems, FF attempts to open the file as a script and you will just see a bunch of gibberish.

Please download OTL to your Desktop
Please download the attached Scan.txt to your destop

Double click the OTH file and select Kill All Processes, your desktop will go blank

Then select Start OTL
OTL will now run
double-click on the Custom Scans box and a message box will popup asking if you want to load a custom scan from a file
Select Scan.txt that you downloaded

Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so.
When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
Copy and paste the contents back here.

Hi,

Malware Defense somehow installed itself on my laptop and it started freezing the computer and locking up unless running on safemode.
I followed your instructions posted on this site for removing malware defence, rkill appeared to stop the freezing so i was able to complete the installation running mbam (renamed to explorer.exe).

The scan detected the threats went to restart to complete removal and the computer froze up.
When it rebooted i ran rkill and the scan again and it detected more threats.
Again during the removal it went to reboot and froze.
After turning it back on and running the scan it did not find any problems or threats.
I thought it had worked however now whenever the computer goes to shutdown or standby it still freezes and locks up.
Does this mean there are still traces of malware defense/there are still settings it changed that havn't been put back right?

Can you help with this?

Thanks
Tom
