P52s + Thunderbolt 3 Gen2 dock limits external display to 4k @ 30Hz

Q: P52s + Thunderbolt 3 Gen2 dock limits external display to 4k @ 30Hz

Hi, I'm having issues with my external 4k display to only be able to operate at 30Hz. I have my laptop connected to a generation 2 Thunderbolt 3 dock via the provided cable, and from there I have tried both DisplayPort and HDMI cables (several) to connect to my display. All the technical information I have seen says that my laptop plus the dock should be able to operate at 60Hz even at this resolution, but I'm unable to lock down the settings that enable me to do that. I have pulled the latest BIOS, TB3 FW, display drivers, Intel chipset drivers from the product page.My screen is: AOC U3277FWQ if that matters. I'm running Windows 10 Pro 1809. Has anyone battled with the same issue? I'm running out of ideas on how to solve this. The HDMI port on the side is apparently only 1.4 so this would only support the [email protected], but I'm not using it at the moment. If I set the screen to 1920x1080, I can set the resolution to 60Hz. Best regards,_tero

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I am attempting to conenct multiple monitors to my x390 through the thunderbolt dock.  The first monitor comes up fine with 3840x2160 resolution.  However when I connect the second monitor it comes up as 800x600.  I do not have the option for the second display to change resolution.  x390 s connected to dock via Thinkpad TBT cable 40G I have ran lenovo software updates and I am at the latest software version for everything. I tried the windows display app and the Intel display app and both are showing the same behavior for the second monitor. I have tried reversing the order of connecting the monitors.  The first one to connect always goes to 4x, where the second one connected always reverts to 800x600 without the option to change, I have tried turning off the built-in-display to see if that would change anything, but it didn't. I have tried swapping the port on the dock that the monitors are connected to.  The first monitor always correctly displays at 4k and the second is set to a much lower resolution typically 800x600 without any options to change. The intel app has an option to change the refresh rate, so I tried changing to a few different refresh rate to see if that would change anything, and it didn't help. I had the monitors connected via hdmi, so I switched both to display port and now I get 3 options, but the max is 1280x720.  I still do not get the 4k option. I then tried one con... I have a P1 GEN2 OLED. While the internet is flooded with complaints of the OLED screen itself, the thunderbolt 3 port of my P1 GEN2 magically stopped working for no reason.  I have been using the laptop with an external display ever since I got the laptop. All went well. Suddenly from yesterday, the external display starts turning into a blue sreen with "NO SIGNAL" shown on it.  I had a windows cumulcative update (KB4532693) and windows security update (KB4524244) yesterday and I suspected that the update might be the culprit. I rolled back the OS. No change. Still NO SIGNAL.  I searched this Forum. Played with Thunderbold 3 menu in the Bios. Everything was enabled and every single option of "security level" was tried. Still NO SIGNAL.  I checked Intel Mangaement Engine software. It is already the latest version. Reinstalled it. Still NO SIGNAL.  I checked Nvidia driver. Latest version already.  In sum, the problem is: the thunderbolt port is still able to power the extenal display but just simply does not pass signal to the external display. HDMI port, however, still passes signal if use an HDMI cable.  I want to give it a shot here to see if anyone has experienced similar issues and how they sovled the problem before I call Lenovo technical support, the staff of which does not seem to know more than some people here on this Forum.

Hello I seem to have a problem on my P53 laptop, as the external displays, connected on the two HDMI ports on the Lenovo TP Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock(Product nr.: 40AN0230EU), they just randomly turn on on the first try. If they not turn on, on the first try, I have to put it back to sleep and then awake again at once. I always use the power button on the dock.So where can I see what firmware version I have for my Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock. I se that I have controller driver version 1.41.648.4.I've also search on Lonovo's site to find a download, but can only find this site: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/accessory/docks/thunderbolt-3-workstation-dock/40an/down... but I can not see the workstation dock listed, just the Thunderbolt 3 dock, but maybe that cover's both? The version listed is: V1.0.0.20 of 07 Aug 2019. I'm also very confused about what dock I really have, is it the:  ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock, ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2 or the ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock Gen 2 , or are they all the same as they seem to use the same driver if you look at this site:  https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/DS505148  , here the latest driver version are : V10015 of 23 Sep 2019. It's also odd that the Sep version(10015) has a lover number that the Aug version(10020)?  I'm also very confused as if the terms firmware and driver's are used correctly, and are there really 3 different... Hi everyone, I have a Thinkpad p52s hooked up to a newly bought ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2 135W (40AN0135US). I recently also purched a second external monitor, and want to operate them through the dock now (with laptop closed)Both monitors are Dell U2518D, and they have a resolution of 2560 x 1440. However, the moment I plug in both monitors, one will only be available at a resolution of 1920 x 1080. What I've tried so far:updated Windows 10updated all p52s driversswitched cables from HDMI to mDPtried all four monitor plugs in the docktried another U2518D monitor (we have more at the office)My laptop screen is only HD so I can't compare it, but when I open the lid I simply have one more HD screen To no avail. One of the screens will always go back to a generic HD display with 30Hz. I'm no expert but I was convinced this shouldn't be a problem with the laptop and the dock? I have the Intel UHD Graphics 620 driver version 26.20.100.6951 installed. I don't know why nVidia does not have any settings about the monitors but again, I'm no expert, and I didn't find anyone else having the same problem. I attached screenshot to show how this monitor is being displayed.

I'm going to admit off the bat that the only reason I've signed up for this forum is to bring light to lenovo's incredibly poor customer support.  I had a brand new P52s that would overheat whenever it was plugged into the Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 dock.  Timeline of the issue and order of events are shown below.  Note that I did the best I could at matching up the days with the events, but there were so many calls and so many people/departments that I spoke with that I can't even remember them all.  It is my hope that somebody at Lenovo actually cares about their customers and will get this case resolved.

Issue Timeline (dates/order of events not exact but are close? I am going by memory for the phone calls and trying to recall the best I can):
2/3/18 ? Ordered via order number 4291186449
3/6/18 ? Received laptop
3/20/18 Service ticket 405W34J ? I believe that this was the original ticket for the overheating issue, but I?m not 100% sure.
4/3/18 Service ticket 405Z3GW 4/3/17 I believe this is one of the overheating complaints that I filed.  If it is the one I remember, the technician wanted me to update all my bios.
4/3/18 Service ticket 405Z3SM ? Updating BIOS did not solve issue.  Technician immediately stated that this meant the system board was shot and needed replacement.  I asked for them to log in to the machine remotely to do further diagnostics, but they refused.  They sent me a box to send the laptop to the Lenov... Dear helpy helpers, I am experiencing a heap of trouble when using T490 and Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2 together. When we recieve a new machine, we reinstall it, with a clean latest version of Windows, and run TVSU for the lastest drivers. Software wise, they get Office, Visual Studio, ReSharper, SQL Server Management Studio and Symantec. Nothing fancy. The last 3 machines hav had issues with the docks. The docks are 135W (cable plugged in the correct power port on the dock). Cable for the PC is on the back and not the front. Screens that wont run full resolution, no ethernet, no charging and the like. Checking the Thunderbolt Control Panel, the dock is connected. Reinstalling wont solve the issued, but getting new motherboards for 2 machines worked somewhat. I've been managing Lenovo laptops for 10 years now, and though i don't see myself as an expert, I have seen quite a few different models, and experienced different issues with docking solutions. Though. Nothing. Like. These. Thunderbolt. Docks.  Is anyone else having trouble, or am I the only one fighthing this? I am thinking about running back to Windows 10 1809 instead of 1903, but I dont really like having to be vary of backwards compatibility with a simple setup as above.  Any help would be hawt!

I used System Upate to install the latest Lenovo Power Management Driver 1.67.14.05.  After this, I've noticed that my external speakers which are plugged into the Thunderbolt Dock pop whenever there is some sort of audio/video on the screen right as it loads or after leaving a web page even if no video/audio is actually playing.  This also occurs outside of just webpages, with an application that gives me audio notifications, there's a subtle pop before the sounds plays as well. I isolated the issue down to the Thunderbolt Dock only.  If I plug my speakers into the laptop directly and use the built-in Realtek HD Audio, no issue at all.  Something changed with regards to how audio is output through the dock and/or with this latest Power Management Driver update.  It's actually very annoying the popping sound that the speakers make, especially when they're turned up loud.  I tried some old solution that was Windows 10 specific with changing the minimum processor % while plugged in to 100% instead of the default of 5% in the power settings but that didn't help at all.  I'm pretty confident that this latest driver is what introduced this new issue. Anyone else experiencing this same issue, feel free to comment.

Hi.  I'm hoping I can get this resolved on this forum.I just got my system and am trying to connect my 3 external monitors.    My setup is as follows:Monitor 1 - laptop screen - works.Monitor 2 - HDMI out to HDMI in - worksMonitor 3 - DP out to HDMI in via a DP-HDMI cable.  - worksMonitor 4 - DP ou to DVI in via a DP-DVI adapter - doesn't work. I can't figure out how to make this work.I also tried this setup:Monitor 1 - laptop screen - works.Monitor 2 - VGA out to VGA in - worksMonitor 3 - HDMI out to HDMI in - worksMonitor 4 - DP out to HDMI in via a DP-HDMI cable.  - doesn't work. Incidentally in this configuration, when I closed the laptop screen this monitor worked.  Also on a related note, the Nvidia Quadro P500  is sitting idle as the Intel UHD 620 is doing all the work.  How can I control this? Thanks for any suggestions. Sal

A:Thinkpad P52S Ultra Dock and 3 External Monitors

As stayed in PSREF, P52s supports up to three independent displays. Laptop's screen includes in this limit, meaning you can use two external displays at that time. When you close the lid, you can use three external displays. To use more, you'll need some sort of USB adapter to increase such a limit. Regarding other question, you can't disable Intel GPU - it's always active and it's always controls screen output. NVIDIA's dGPU can be configured to be used in selected applications, making them to work with higher performance. P52 and P72 for sure have an ability to disable Intel iGPU, giving the control of screen output to dGPU. Probably P1 and/or X1 Extreme have the same feature too.

Hey, I have a Lenovo p52s laptop with a built-in Intel HD graphics 620 and an NVIDIA P500 GPU.I am using a Thunderbolt 3 40AC USB-C docking station and have connected 3 external monitors (1xVGA, 1xHDMI, 1xDP).Currently, it seems onyl the Intel GPU is driving the monitors and so only 2 external monitors are working (the 3rd is recognized but not used).I'm trying to figure out how (if possible) to switch from the Intel to the NVIDIA GPU to drive the external monitors so I can get all 3 working as well as the built-in laptop display. I have windows 10 1803 installed and have installed Lenovo Vantage and all the updates (including the optional ones) it found.I updated to the latest (I think) BIOS version (N27ET34W 1.20, 27/02/2019) and can't find an option to use discrete graphics or any graphics options for choosing a GPU... Can anyone help with this? Previously I have a ThinkPad W541 with a docking station and an NVIDIA M1000 GPU and everything worked fine with 3 external displays connected to the docking station. Can anyone help please? Thanks! Tal

I dont get it working over DP with 2560x1440 and a secondary monitor over DP. The ThinkVision Monitor falls back to 1920x1080.  All drivers are installed and the latest firmware of the Gen2 Dock is installed.  When i have connected 2 monitors to the dock and open the X1, the monitor of the x1 will get 1920 resolution. Whats wrong? Issue 1I purchased the ZBook Studio G3 + 2 months wait on the Thunderbolt 3 Dock to primarily connect 2 4K Samsung monitors.  When connected via the display port one will display at 4k while the other will only display @ 2560X1440.  I had bought a a couple of CableMatters thunderbolt 3 X display port adapters while waiting on the dock.  If I plug one of the monitors in using the adapter and the other into the display port both will display 4K.Anybody else having this issue? Issue 2After the computer goes to sleep only one monitor will wake up.  The NVDIA control panel still shows both connected.  Only way to get the second monitor awake is to shutdown and reboot. Issue 3I have the displays configured to go blank after 1 hour.  Once this occurs and I enter my password all of my open programs are displayed on one screen rather than on both.  This would be normal if you have undocked and re-docked a laptop. Issue 4If the laptop is opened while docked. One display goes blank and one is duplicated with the laptop screen.  This is not typical docked behavior.  I moved from an  Elitebook 8540W with dock.  I'm really questioning my whether this was an upgrade.

hi, I have setup one of my faculty with a Yoga 920131KB plus Thunderbolt 3 Dock. He has an existing monitor (Samsung Syncmaster P2450) that should support 1920x1080. Seems to be current on all drivers and patches under Win10 EDU version. (Including the CCG4 Firmware Update to v55). We are using the HDMI output from the dock. If we try to configure extended desktop to the Samsung monitor at 1920x1080, the screen extends off both sides about half an inch. Maybe also a quarter inch over at the top.  As a work-around, set at 1680x1050, video generally works as expected, but the display starts about 2" in from either side. Generally I don't like using add-on utilities (prefer to just use standard windows built-in options), but somewhere along the line this has the Intel Graphics HD Utility.  I was using that to switch resolution, the Windows settings seemed to track along with changes in the Intel utility, but still overscanned the display.  I played with some other settings in the utility about Display Scale (other than 100%), didn't seem to change anything. A second problem occurs with this setup: when the laptop is used at home, put to sleep, then plugged into the dock, the screen is displayed on the external monitor at maybe 200% (?).  That is, you only see the central portion of the image.  No fiddling with settings seems to correct it, but rebooting usually fixes it. The second problem also occurs with a similar Yoga 920 + Dock (d... Installation completed and everything appeared to be fine.  I powered down the thinkpad and disconnected. Worked from the living room, then went back to the dock. Connected, and noticed that before I connected the White light on the power button was illuminated. Shrugged, and pushed the power button. Nothing. I un-plugged the Dock, got a cup of coffee, returned and plugged it back in. Nothing. I just started having this problem today.  Updated to the latest firmware a few days back on this 150w Thunderbolt Dock P5Q58UT#ABA per the e-mail "Critical Driver Alert - Apr 12 2017 HP Thunderbolt 3 Dock Firmware (ver 1.12 Rev.A)".  Today when plugging in my secondary display is corrupted.  To note I have two of the same docks, one at home and one at work with different monitors in each location.  I'm getting the same issue in both locations.  I don't think two docks went bad and the thunderbolt ports appear to be functioning.  Is there a way to rollback the firmware on these docks to see if that's the issue?   If not what are the next steps to resolve, any advice?  The normal troubleshooting steps on HP.com don't appear to address this.  Pics attached.

For my X1 Carbon 5th Gen I got myself a Thunderbolt 3 Dock (Gen 1) - (40AC). But right now the dock doesn't work as expected.I have connected a 1440p-Dell monitor via DisplayPort. Also I conntected a 1080p-Panasonic-TV via HDMI. The manual of the dock suggested to use a certain DisplayPort-Connector, which I did.I'd like to switch on my ThinkPad via the power button on the dock and then wake up my Dell monitor from sleep. Right now the Dell is set as primary display. If needed I'd like to switch on the TV as a secondary display. The ThinkPad should remain closed and only the external displays should be used. In the BIOS of the ThinkPad I alread configured, the an external display should be used prior to the internal one.Right now the following happens: I switch on the ThinkPad via the button on the dock. The Dell monitor doesn't wake up. Only when I switch on the TV (Panasonic 1080p via HDMI) also the Dell monitor wakes up and shows the content. I'm rather lost how to solve this behaviour. I already checked the BIOS version of my ThinkPad and updated it - nothing changed  Has anyone any idea?

Has anyone had experience with this. I just purchased an XPS 15 9560 with a TB16 dock and I'm hoping to use the dock and my old Apple Cinema display, but I can't seem to get the monitor to work in the dock. I purchased an Apple Thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter and the screen works fine when I hook it directly into the laptop, but I get a USB malfunctioned error when I hook it into the dock. Any information or tricks anyone else has found would be helpful. Thank you in advance.

I have a Thinkpad X1 Extreme (20MF000CUS) connected to two external 4K monitors via Lenovo Thunderbolt Workstation Dock (40AN0230US). Windows 10 desktop extends to all 3 displays.Everything works really well except for a major annoyance: normally I have a bunch of apps/windows I leave open on all 3 monitors. Whenever I put the laptop to sleep and I then resume it later on, all app/windows I left open are automatically resized, moved and stacked up on the primary (laptop) display. Is this by design? Anyway to prevent this behaviour?I noticed that the laptop display is handled by the Intel graphic card while the two external displays are handled by the nVidia graphic card. Could this be the reason?

I tried to update my thunderbolt software and as a result, anytime i plug my charger into the USB-C Connector - the one closest to the rear of the machine, the screen wil cycle on and off indefinitely. It will work normally in thunderbolt 3 connector, the one closer to the front of the machine. https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/THINKPAD-P-SERIES-LAPTOPS/THINKPAD-... https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n27ti03w.txt

I mistakenly assumed that a usb-c port would suffice as a 4 way usb 3.0 connection at thunderbolt 3 bandwidth on my p52s. I now realize the usb hub I bought supports only 5gbps.  Is there a specific thunderbolt 3 hub that can let me utilize 4 usb 3.0 ports at full bandwidth when paired with the Lenovo P52s? I have seen the lenovo workstation hub which has alot more features than I need, does this device require a power source to operate at full bandwidth or can I use it standalone powered only by the laptop? https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/acc100356

Hi!I just got a new "X1 Carbon 5th Gen - Kabylake (Type 20HR, 20HQ)" and a "X1 Carbon Thunderbolt 3 Dock". I have an external screen connected to the dock and it works fine (VGA connection). I also have an other monitor with display (DP) connection that I want to use. But my computer can't find the other monitor, only the one with VGA connection. Is there any easy ways to fix this problem?Best regards

Hello everyone, I recently bought a Thinkpad X1 Extreme and I am now locking for a suitable Thunderbolt 3 dock. Although I've read a lot of posts about various docks I am still a little consfused about which one to choose. It seems like the following ones would all work with the X1 Extreme:1. Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2 135W:https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/accessories-and-monitors/docking/universal-cable-docks-thunderbolt/Thun...2. ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock (170W):https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/accessories-and-monitors/docking/universal-cable-docks-thunderbolt/Thun...3. ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock (230W):https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/accessories-and-monitors/top-tech/Thunderbolt-WS-230W-dock-US/p/40AN023... Please correct me if I am wrong but to me it seems as if the only difference between these docks is that the workstation ones come with two AC adapters each and a special Thunderbolt/Power cable to avoid using two different cables. Or are there any other technical differences? So if I am okay with a two cable solution couldn't I just use the Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2 135W and connect it via Thunderbolt while at the same time use my 135W AC adapter to charge the laptop? Thanks a lot in advance.

Hello everyone, At the end of last year I bought a bunch of Carbon X1 7th Generation laptops for our office, and several of these are suffering from the issue that is also described in these threads: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-6th-gen-HDMI-not-working/td-p/40915... https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-6th-Gen-HDMI-Not-Working-and-Thunde... Basically, the laptops will occasionally cease to recognise external displays, and when this happens Thunderbolt has also gone missing. The top thread mentions that firmware has been released in June that should solve the issue (post 41), but as far as I can see our systems are currently up to date according to Vantage with Thunderbolt driver 1.41.729.0 installed, and the problem persists. (Granted, the thread was about 6th gen, and I am not sure how relevant it is for 7th gen laptops). Another solution mentioned in the same thread is to reset the laptop with the small button on the bottom. This does indeed solve the problem, but only temporarily - after a while, the issue returns. What I am therefore looking for is a permanent fix for this problem, but since I am out of ideas myself, I am hoping that someone here might have another suggestion. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks!

This morning after waking my ThinkPad P52s (Windows 10 x64) from sleep the following happened: 1. The "A Thunderbolt controller has experienced a problem and cannot connect to devices or other computers until new firmware is installed" dialog box popped up several times. However, it no longer shows up. I believe (after some googling) this means the controller went into "safe mode" for some reason and will only accept firmware updates now.2. Both USB-C ports stopped working properly (peripherals connected to either of those ports are not functioning). I was able to use those ports just fine few days ago.3. The 65W Lenovo power adapter is now detected as "15W USB-C power" instead of "AC power". This results in batteries charging only when power consumption does not exceed 15W (i.e. when laptop is powered off or idle). Most likely due to the same reason the following message is now shown during every reboot: "The connected AC adapter has a lower wattage than the recommended model which was shipped with the system. To boot with the AC adapter, please connect the AC adapter which was shipped with the system. Press Esc to continue." Thunderbolt controller is enabled in BIOS. "Thunderbolt in BIOS Assist Mode" is disabled. It looks like Power Delivery is not being negotiated between the power adapter and the laptop due to (malfunctioning?) Thunderbolt controller. What I've tried so far:Plugging power adapter to both USB-C ports with the same result (see 3. above)U... Read more

Hi all, would really appreciate some help from you all!  I want to connect P50 to two external monitors and have all three displays (p50, monitor 1 and monitor 2) on.  Is that possible without a dock?Monitor 1 is a 21.5 inch Asus monitor with HDMI, VGA and DVI portsMonitor 2 is slight ancient 22 inch HP monitor with only VGA and DVI ports My P50 laptop has HDMI, Thunderbolt, and a Mini displayport connector. Can I connect the P50 to the two monitors and have the displays on all of them (including the laptop) be on?   If yes, what do you recommend is the best way to connect them?

A:P50 display ON plus two external monitors without a dock possible?

First, you haven't mentioned if you have a "discrete graphics" nVidia GPU in your P50. I will assume you do, and I will recommend that you set your BIOS to have Config -> Display -> graphics device set to "discrete graphics".  This will effectively disappear the built-in Intel HD Graphics hardware (from the CPU) which would normally control the laptop screen.  It will instead assign the nVidia GPU to control the laptop screen as well as all externally connected monitors.  You should then download and install the normal latest retail nVidia graphic driver for your Quadro GPU from the nVidia driver download site.

Next, you should use both the miniDisplayPort and HDMI connectors on your P50, to connect to the external monitors. You can connect the HDMI port on the laptop to the monitor which has an HDMI source connector, using a regular HDMI-HDMI cable.

The second external monitor can be connected to the miniDP connector on the P50, but you will need a proper modestly priced miniDP->DVI cable like this one.

That's it. You can use the nVidia Control Panel (installed as part of the normal nVidia driver) to activate all three screens and also to set the desired resolutions on all three screens.

Has anyone experienced this issue below? I disable my internal Quadro M1000M, I plug in my eGPU (AORUS 1070 Gaming Box) via Thunderbolt, use it for a while. Then when I'm done using it, I unplug it, re-enable my Quadro M1000M and plug in my external monitor via HDMI.   The display driver crashes for both my Quadro M1000M and my Intel HD Graphics 530 and the external monitor never works.  Microsoft starts a Microsoft Basic Display Driver. I tried disabling and re-enabling both display adapters but external monitor still won't work, it just crashes the adapters again. The only fix to this issue I have found is to uninstall the Quadro M1000M in the device manager and restart the computer. Then after it restarts, I can use the external monitor again with the Quadro M1000M. So it's easy to do and not a huge pain in the butt, but if anyone knows a way to fix this issue without needing to restart my computer, that would be a great help.

I have a Thinkpad T470 and a Thinkpad USB 3.0 Pro dock. I have Win 7 on it with Bitlocker enabled. What I would like to do is setup the laptop to boot to one of the external displays so I get the bitlocker screen on my main monitors. I went into the bios and it seems to have an option to do that but that doesn't seem to work. Is there something I can do to make that work?

The external monitor (Dell U2718Q) lately stuck at 30HZ refresh rate, instead of the usual/normal 60Hz.This happens when connected through the Dock Gen 3 (Type 40AN); when tried connecting directly on laptop, it is back at 60Hz (HDMI connection in both cases).  Cannot see what is the problem for this "change of heart" out of the blue, and unfortunately did not realize exactly when this happened.GPU drivers are 28.21.14.3140 and 28.20.100.6860. All of the firmware/drivers are also at latest versions as of time of writing. The most recent related (?) change was the Intel Thunderbolt Software 17.4.80.550.Otherwise, the firmware+driver of the dock are quite old by now, and they were working just fine for long (since published till recently). Is there anybody else with this problem? Any suggestions for troubleshooting?

I'm not able to use an external display during the boot process + Bitlocker Screen. T480s on a USB-C 40AF Dock. This functionality exists with T470s and the 40A2 Ultra Dock. There is the proper Display On Dock BIOS setting avaible. This funcitionality exists with the P52s and the USB-C 40AC Dock. It seems like the T480s is missing this functionality, and I want to know if there is a planned BIOS update to fix this issue. I've tried every other possible BIOS configuration, and both USB-C ports on the T480s, there is no way to get an external montior to display during boot when that external display is plugged into a USB-C dock. Please let me know. Thanks!

Yesterday morning after waking my ThinkPad P52s (Windows 10 x64) from sleep the following happened:As usual after waking my laptop after having connected to the power adaptor from home, my keyboard, mouse and external display connected to thunderbolt were not waking up. Usually a simple reboot is enough to get the devices back on line, but since I have been trying to solve this issue for a long time, I checked if some system updates were available using lenovo system update tool. My company IT had also pushed some windows updates so I did both sets of updates.Right after the ensuing reboot, the "A Thunderbolt controller has experienced a problem and cannot connect to devices or other computers until new firmware is installed" dialog box popped up twice. I keep getting this each time I reboot, or whenever I fiddle with the thunderbolt drivers.Thunderbolt docking connected through the thunderbolt port stopped working properly (peripherals connected to the dock stopped being visible). I was able to use the docking just fine the previous day. I've done the following:Tried uninstalling reinstalling the thunderbolt software corresponding to my model (P52S). When I uninstall, the software gets reinstalled immediately, unless I disable internet access. The moment I install the newest software, I am getting the message again.Tried updating the thunderbolt firmware. When I do, I get an message saying that the update cannot be completed because the controller is in safe mode. Tried... Read more
