Upgrade M91p's BIOS by flashing M92p's one to broa...

Q: Upgrade M91p's BIOS by flashing M92p's one to broa...

Hi, It appears we are many here to encounter problems with the restrictive white list of graphic cards for the ThinkCentre M91p (as well as M91 and M81) Small Form Factors. I have several AMD graphic cars which work straightforward with the M92p but emit no signal with the M91p. Some will argue that ThinkCenter are business machines and hence the restrictive list of graphic cards. But AMD also produces cards for the business segment, which are assumed being reliable. The white list keeps the M91p away from new cards. I upgraded the BIOS to its latest version, but this did not change anything. Is there a way to stop the filtering done by the BIOS or to upgrade the M91p's BIOS to accept new graphic cards ?What about flashing the BIOS for the M92p on a M91p ?I assume it wouldn't work as the marchines are different, but has anyone tried this ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I have four of these units and two I built with no problems.  The other two are a PITA.  The first is giving me 3 short beeps followed by 2 long beeps (although the second beep kind of breaks up a bit) and a short beep.  I can't find anything on the internet about this (I found 3 short and 2 long = Video but I have no standalone video on this).  I get a completely black screen nothing displays on this unit.  This has the same exact memory and CPU that the other working pc's have. Any help will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance

Hi everyone, I recently acquired a M91p SFF with:i5-24008gb RamAsus eah5450 low profile passOptical drive500gb hdd @7200rpmand 240w PSU So I have been researching a lot about what GPUs will work in my systemI decided to buy the GT730 (to upgrade my old gpu).It has a power consumption of 25w (TDP of 38w) according to the geforce website.I just want to make sure that it will work.Although I am confident it will work because the asus eah5450 has a power consumption of up to 75 watts.I MAY have to update my bios but my concern is that there's no bios update for Windows 10.I am also planning to transfer it to another case and buy a new psu but I am not sure what size the motherboard is (most likely micro-atx) and also the connectors to a new psu would be similar to the stock psu that I currently have The GT730 is on it's way and i'm planning to install it and removing the power to the optical drive (dvd) since I don't use it that often. This is just to make sure that my psu would hold the entire setup. Any suggestions guys? Thanks!

I recently bought a Thinkcentre SFF M91p and tried to install an AMD Radeon HD7570 with NO success.  The machine will not boot.  The CPU and GPU fans spin, but it never boots.  I thought first it might be a power issue, and tried unplugging the CD-ROM drive, which didn't work either.  I then moved to upgrading the BIOS and that also had no effect.  I did find this morning the PCI-e slot in this machine is listed as a 2.0 slot and the HD7570 is spec'd at PCI-e 2.1, so is this card completely incompatible with the M91p I have? What GPU should I be using that will work straight away, and give me the max performance in this system without having to upgrade the PSU?   The system specs are as follows System type:   M91p, SFFSystem model number: 4518Y4DOperating system installed: Win10 Home 64-BitBIOS version: LENOVO 9HKT58AUS, 6/10/2014Thank you for your help!

Yes, upgrade to i7-3770 (the top processor for this model) is possible, and as it's the same wattage as existing i5, there are no cooler issues.  But benchmarks show less than a 20% improvement, and in my past experience, you need 35%+ to make a noticable difference.   IMO, you'd be better off changing the HDD to a SSD for a performance improvement.

Hello forum, I have installed on my newly purchased Lenovo Thinkcentre M92p, Type 3228, Model DG2, Windows 10 Professional 64-bit. Then, ThinkVantage System Update for Windows 10, version 5.07.0042. The program recommended missing drivers and a BIOS update. After installing the drivers and rebooting, I ran the BIOS update. First, everything looked good, but then the PC booted and then hung up and beeped twice. Since then the monitor remains black and nothing works. After some time I have switched off and doing the procedure "Recovering from a POST / BIOS update failure" (Flash UEFI BIOS update CD ISO image version 9SKT97A) as described in the manual. Unfortunately without success. Could someone please help me, what I can do now to repair and use the computer again? Thank you in advance for your kind efforts. MfG

Hi,I recently got my hands on a M91p SFF with:i5-2400 CPU8gb Ram250gb hdd @7200rpm2 tb hdd @5400rpmand 240w PSU What I want to do is to convert this machine into a [email protected] / 1080p gaming machine. My plan is to buy the MSI 1050ti lp and even though it seems to run on the 240w PSU I feel that I want to upgrade it to at least 300w to be safe and so that I can upgrade the ram to 16gb and maybe add an extra fan and a usb hub in the front, where the optical drive used to be, so that I can connect more than just two USB gamepads in the front. After some goggling I found this power supply: http://www.bequiet.com/en/powersupply/496 According to my measurements, is should fit. But I want to be sure, will this work in the case? Also, I think I read somewhere that Lenovo does not a use standard ATX connection, but from what I can see, this system uses a standard 24 pin ATX connection to the motherboard. I might be wrong though. I am no expert on computers and I have never upgraded or built a system before so I ask here to be 100% before I buy anything.  I hope someone where can shed some light on my situation. Thanks

The GTX 750 Ti could work with a SFF M92p.   Upgrade to the latest BIOS beforehand, CD ISO method is most reliable.   Check that there aren't any taller heatsinks on the motherboard that could interfere with the graphics card (refer to photos of the card.)

Since your system is older, to ensure the necessary airflow, clean the front air intake and fan with vacuum and canned compressed air, jam the fan with a cable tie or similar so it can't spin and over-speed.  Same for CPU fan and heat sink, and vac the intake and rear exhaust of the power supply.

I'd recommend going into the UEFI, which replaces the old BIOS standard, and resetting to optimal defaults, which will likely fix the issue. You also should update it, if you have access to a Windows system use rufus to format a bootable dos usb stick and copy the contents of the USB Drive UEFI BIOS Flash Package so you won't need Windows (or a CD) on the actual system to do updates. The current version is 58 vs the 43 you have on there now. By the way you can also use rufus to install Windows to a usb drive for 'Windows To Go' mode which is quite useful at times, especially if you don't want Windows on the system itself. You can download a Windows 10 iso directly from Microsoft's website and via rufus  'Windows To Go' mode isn't limited to just the Enterprise version. CHANGES for 9HKT58A/9HJT58A

I've performed so many BIOS updates over the years, including on this machine, and never had a single one fail. Until now. The machine is a M92p tower, i7-3770, Type 3212. I applied the 9SKT99USA (Flash from operating system version). It seemed to start out OK, went thru at least one reboot, displayed a step in yellow text, then went to "Updating BIOS...." at the bottom of the screen, then froze. Now, when I try to start it will display "lenovo" and that's it. I tried the clear CMOS thing with the jumper change. It beeped twice. Unfortunately, when I restart I get the same result as above. Is there any hope? Thanks in advance.

Hi. I just purchased a Lenovo Thinkcentre M91p (machine type 0266) which has an external 150w power supply. I purchased it to be used as a HTPC and i want to put a gpu and more ram in it. The problem is the power supply, all the ones i see people talk about have an internal 240w power supply. On the back of the pc is a DC in jack thats directly into the motherboard itself. I ran some calculations on power usage and the site i used said the recommended power supply size for the standard unit is 150w with a peak load of 123w. Adding the gpu alone pushes the peak load to 140w (nvidia gt730) with a recommended supply of 180w. My question basically is how can i upgrade an external power supply when all i can find is standard 150w external replacements or internal ones that wont be of any use

My configuration: SSD 250Gb for OS with Three partitities C is for W7 OS, next parttitie is Q with factoryrecovery (but this never worked!), last partititie on SSD is a hidden partititie with letter E I don't know what function this parttitie E has.Second harddisk from 1 TB has 2 partitities, first is named D and is used for my documents and other data. Second partitities is named X and it contains a Ghost file from my C disk and some recover data from R&R.For my weekly backups I use a external portable drive with de data which R&R writes up for my weekly backup. Also on this drive all my backyups like data and so on.
W 10 says that there is a compatibility problem, I have to remove R&R. I tried several times but cannot remove R&R 4.5   I also tried to update it firts to version 4.52 but without result. What did I try; Via configuration I selected R&R for removing. Just wondering if, and how, I can troubleshoot an oddity I have. We run a number of this model Lenovo and decided they would be better with 8Gb of RAM, up from the original 4Gb. All went smoothly until one PC emitted a musical alert on booting after the upgrade, which stopped when I removed the new RAM. I checked I had the new RAM in the correct slot, blue just like the original stick. I tried the suspect stick in the next box and it is fine. Where do I start looking to find out what is going on? Regards, Granville.

A:Thinkcentre m92p memory upgrade failed

I would repace the original 4GB with upgrade memory, test to see if it boots, and then put original memory into upgrade slot and test, if it fails, that slot is probably bad.   You could use it in the other bank, won't be as fast, but you'll have 8GB.

After any memory upgrade or change, I suggest running a couple of passes of MemTest86, the free version, to ensure all is well.

The m92p sff booted and ran smoothly for several months.  Also, I made several clean copies of the updated Windows 7 Pro OS using identical 1TB mbr formatted drives.  (Intending to swap drives between work and personnal and also to format and reload the OS routinely).  I was able to swap these drives without a problem before the desktop refused to boot. All clean or used copies of the drives suddenly resulted in the same boot error.  The boot error was overcome only after reloading the OS from DVDs. ? Something about the process of reloading the OS from DVDs, reset a block or boot error triggered in the BIOS.?Even flashing the BIOS did not reverse the boot error problem.   Only the process of reloading the OS from DVDs would work to get the PC to boot and run normally. This desktop was purchased from a corporate environment,  where it had been used for two years. What aspect of the BIOS could be responding to swapping out identical copies of the drives, by triggering a boot error that can only (?) be removed by reloading the OS?  IS THIS A CORPORATE SECURITY BIOS SETTING ?  Thanks.

A:Question about Mainboard and Bios in Tower and Desktop Type M92p

The Tower and the SFF use the same motherboard and the same BIOS, and the same BIOS is used worldwide.   It will do a check of the hardware and the existing BIOS version, and will prompt you if want to replace a later or the same version of BIOS.

Hi,after installing the Windows 10 fall creators update 2017 (1709), my M91p doesn't wake up from sleep any more. Before the upgrade it worked fine. Now I have to shut it down the hard way and restart - then it will continue at the point where I left off. Any ideas on that?Best regards,Sebastian

Dear community, it tried several times by re-plug my modules in DIMM 1 - 4 and updating bios, but I didn't get it to work. It is a ThinkCentre M92p Type 3227 Model F41 manufactured 1302 - it's a small form factor ( SFF ) one. Bios Revision Level 9SKT99AUS and date 06/30/2017. Additionaly I installed a Gaming Grafic Card MSI GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GT Low Profile (which is awesome with my 24" :-) ) I installed Kingston 4x KVR1333D3E9S/4G 1.5V - there is a sticker in the right that shows 9965413-002.A00LF for two modules and 9965413-028.A00LF for the other two modules. I installed each pair in DIMM 1+3 and DIMM 2+4. If my 4 modules are intalled, the BIOS shows ALLWAYS 8192 MB (and Memory Speed 1333). I checked installing the first pair on DIMM 1+3 only ... then the second pair of modules in DIMM 1+3 ... the system starts fine (Windows 10) but I didn't get it running with access to 16 GB RAM. For sure, the system starts up with the 4 modules, but RAM ist still 8 GB. Arrrgh ... what the heck did I wrong !? ... so ... ehm yes, I'm calm again ... any hint is very appreciated, the new year LAN Party is still ahead

A:M92p: Memory upgrade (ram, dual channel, 8 GB dimm)

I believe your model 2992 machine is an M92p Tower.  Information about it and how to do hardware upgrades are found in the M82p/M92p Hardware Maintenance Manual (HMM) under the sections for model 2992.

Specifically regarding memory upgrades, from the HMM:

The motherboard schematic on page 75 shows the four DIMM slots and their numbers:

You can physically use "unmatched" memory sizes in the four DIMM slots and the machine BIOS will figure it out and use whatever memory you have in "single channel" mode.  But for ideal optimal memory performance (i.e. "dual channel" mode which typically is 10-15% faster than "single channel" mode), you should always use "matched pairs" (i.e. same size and same speed) of memory sticks, either 2 at a time or all 4 at a time, using either one or both corresponding "matched pair" of DIMM slots.

In particular, DIMM slots 2 and 4 are the first "matched pair" you should ideally populate first with a matched "kit" (i.e. same size and speed) pair of your first 2 memory sticks.  If you want to add additional memory you can add a second matched "kit" pair of 2 memory sticks into the second "matched pair" of DIMM slots, i.e. 1 and 3.

How to fill the four DIMM slots ideally is shown in the HMM:

The HMM clearly states that the largest single memory stick you can use in any DIMM slot is 8GB.  So you can have up to a maximum of four of these 8GB memory sticks for a maximum of 32GB.  O... Read more

Hi,yesterday I updated new BIOS 9SKT99A to ThinkCentre M92p (motherboard is7xm rev. 1.0). BIOS is taken from the official website of Lenovo. The update was made using the program "Flash UEFI BIOS update (Flash from operating system version)" - 9sjy99usa.exe from Windows 7 Pro x64.Now after BIOS update is PC constant reboot. The last picture before rebooting: FW status recovery error. This message hangs 0.5 seconds on the built-in video card, or 2-3 seconds on the external video card (in my case, the NVIDIA GT 730). Only thing I can do is access BIOS setting or choose boot device thru F12 or F1.I did:F9 (reset to default) and CMOS reset - no change, Boot mode UEFI or LEGACY - no change, Boot device (USB/DVD of W7, W8, W10, network boot) - no change, Disconnecting all boot devices - nochange.I need help.Thanks,Dmitriy.

A:Lenovo ThinkCentre M92p. After updating the BIOS from 06/30/2017, the system restarts constantly.

Burn a CD with the BIOS ISO, and follow the procedure for recovering from a failed BIOS update in the HMM.   If unsuccessful, do the same with the previous version of BIOS, which is at the very bottom of your system's BIOS download page.

Edit:  try the older version first, if that works, then do a regular CD ISO update to the latest.

A:M91p USFF: uprate external power supply for graphics upgrade (GPU)

Update: im guessing i could just use any power adapter for other pc's or laptops with 180w or more, it just needs to have the correct ending which is a 6.0x3.0mm connector. I could even possibly use an adapter to make the correct ending. i dont see why this wouldnt work as the power supply is all external

There have been a few threads about the propreitary 14pin PSU connectors and that there's no aftermarket support for upgrades. But it's been a little while, and Lenovo (around the office, my staff are calling them "Le-No-No" now) hasn't change policy, or offered an upgrade.

We have just received several of these i7 PC's and they all have the useless 280w PSU's. Those are severely limiting in what video cards can be installed, as anything over 55w will knock the PSU over. That means, no decent cards. A Quadro 2000 is, at 51W, about as far as we can go.

My CDW rep has been working to find a solution for us, but without any success. So I'm bringing it to the community before I have to re-evaluate our desktop hardware choice.

Has anybody made either an adapter or a PSU that will work on the Lenovo 14-pin motherboards?

(Oh, and yes, I've read http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/A-M-and-Edge-Series-ThinkCentre/M92P-14pin-power-supply-connector/m-p/84... . No help there. Thought I'd post a clear question here in hopes that someone has started making adapters.)

Lenovo Thinkcentre m92p sff (3227) makes Beep sound when powered on since I updated the bios to the version: 9sjw99usa.exe.Also since I replaced the stock lenovo Fans with Noctua fans it makes a second beep (so 2 beep sounds total and there is a fan error in the bios event log), when I connect back the stock fans it makes only 1 beep again. I dont know if the noctua fans would cause the same behaviour on the older bios version since I replaced the fans after the bios update , but I know that with the old bios version there wasnt any beep on startup with the stock fans.I read somewhere that lenovos can give errors in the bios event log with other fans when their rpms are slower then the original fans rpm were, that doesnt explain the single beep on start up with the stock fans though.I wasnt able to find any older bioses for my model to experiment with them on the lenovo support page only the newest bios is offered for download and I wasnt able to find a way to turn of the self test / beep post on start in the bios. I remember that some oem pc systems had key combination for hidden bios settings, does someone know of such a combination to enable hidden settings for my device, or any other way to turn of the annoying beep sounds?I also replaced the stock PSU  with a Be!Quiet! I am look for a last ditch help on fixing the BIOS/POST problem on a perfectly fine E6230
I was attempting to make a powered eSATA cable work when I enabled the SATA 4 and SATA 5 button in the BIOS.
After reboot... nothing..
I have been told it is a motherboard failure but this is too co-incidental!
I have tried a reset of the BIOS by disconnecting all power even the BIOS Coin battery .... nothing - no POST - although the LED shows that laptop is detecting lack of memory and HDD
A search shows that for INSPIRON laptops the BIOS can be unpacked and re-FLASHED to reset.
Does anyone know how to achieve this with the DELL Latitude Laptop or another way to reset the BIOS setting please?

Many thanks for any help or advice

"ROM file does not match existing BIOS size"

someone knows how to solve this?

A:Flashing BIOS - ROM file does not match existing BIOS size

Kevin someone in the other thread asked what size PSU you have now I am not sure what you have hooked up but one way you can check what size PSU you need (for starters) because what you have looks to be a tad on the small size at 450W - eXtreme Power Supply Calculator - The only power supply calculator trusted by PSU manufacturers and computer enthusiasts

Just enter in as much as you can and the readout should give you roughly what size you need with some margin of error. Now if the result is close to the 450W PSU you have?? then under heavy load it might well be trying to draw more than what is available. Remember the stated output is the ideal and in reality some power is lost with the internal workings of the PSU circuitry/s.
Personally I use a PSU that has at least 25% more than I possibly need and just because it says for example 650W on the label doesn't mean that it is producing 650W continuously the device only puts out what is being asked of it. That is to say if your machine's components are idling at a draw of 200W then that is all a 650W PSU will put out - it is sort of working on a linear scale for want of a better way of putting it.

My harddrive recently failed and it cannot be recovered. However, now that the harddrive has failed, I can't put any harddrive or ssd in there even if they have working OS' installed. I even tried various OS' with bootable USB's. Freedos is the only OS that seems to run via USB.  I went through the hp support video: "How to update BIOS when windows does not run" but don't have the "Firmware Patching" option is not available as my update utility version is 3.3.7 rather than the 5.something version featured in the video. The exe provided(SP52604.exe) is... well and EXE! I need an iso or bin or something for freedos 1.0 to run it. I have tried using Freedos 1.1 which should run exe's however, I cannot find a bootable image of freedos 1.1 to put on usb.  What else can I do to flash the bios?
