X230 CPU running at 1.2GHz only,why?

Q: X230 CPU running at 1.2GHz only,why?

I purchased recently Thinkpad X230.Upgraded to Windows 10 and updated but noticed in few days it works so slow.I unlugged the battery and left to work only on power supply/adapter.I noticed that CPU works only on 1.2GHz.Why is that? When I plugged the battery and plug in at wall socket CPU runs at 3.1GHz max.I was so dissapointed, which means CPU can't work at it's max frequency without battery, otherwise I wouldn't buy this notebook. Is this normal or not,and why is it happening?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Why would you want to run without a battery???

There are 2 power inputs. If one is disconnecterd, the CPU will throttle down.

My CPU only runs at 2.0 GHz. When I try to change any setting via TurboV or BIOS to increase the speed, the PC locks up.

I blew all the dust out and keep everything as clean and cool as possible. I may have a hardware incompatibality problem. I am aware that NVIDIA is not a friend to ASUS. I wish I knew that when buying my video card.

What can I do to get my processors back to 3.2?

Is this a temperature I should be worried about or not? I'm not using the stock heatsink. This is my third heatsink for this CPU (including the stock one) and the second one I would hit temperatures of about 20-30. Both heatsinks (second and third) were identical I have a ASUS P5VDC-X motherboard, is there a way I could increase the fan speed? The heatsink has the four cables to the motherboard, I'm not entirely sure how to use SpeedFan and it says my CPU fan (heatsink) is running between 2100-2200 RPM.

*Note: I used to run at these temperatures with the stock heatsink, but would changing back to it resolve my problem?

Could it be a poorly ventalated case? I'm suspicious it may be that. I asked someone a while ago and they mentioned that they used to have a similar problem but the heat issue was coming from their harddrives, could they be heating my case up too much? The Harddrives run at about 40C

If this helps:
Intel Pentium D 940 3.2Ghz
Kingston (PC2-4200, 533Mhz) DDR2 1Gb
ATI Radeon X1600Pro (Zalmann VF900-CU Dual Heatpipe VGA Cooler)
ASUS P5VDC-X
Seagate 160GB SATA HD
Seagate 120 GB IDE HD

OK, there may be a simple answer to this but I will ask anyway

I found this out cause I have been looking for ways to tweek my system for playing my games...It runs everything pretty good I just was looking to streamline it a little so I started looking through Everest and found this...........

I am running a P4 3.2GHz LG775 CPU.....however if I run Everest (V 2.20.405) it tells me I am running a P4 3.2GHz @ 2.8GHz (14x multiplier and a 200MHz FSB)
Does this have anything to do with CPU throttling? Everest says CPU throttling is enabled but I don't know what that is

Why does it show this way, shouldn't it be 16x w/ a FSB of 200MHz ? Or is Everest not reading things correctly?

thnx

I bought an Acer V3-771G last september and have just began to notice that my processor slows down significantly during games. I've noticed a loss of 90fps in minecraft and 20fps in borderlands 2 when this takes effect, which is after 10-15mins of ingame-time.

My specs are as follows;
Intel i7-3610QM Quad Core @ 2.3GHz, turboboost up to 3.3GHz
Nvidia Geforce GT 650M, 2GB video card
16GB DDR3 Memory
1750GB HDD

It might be an overheating issue, it might not. But for the past few days ive been running diagnostics during gaming. HWiNFO64, tells me that my intel processor decreases to just 1.2GHz during the immense fps drop i have during games. Whilst at the time of the fps drop, speccy tells me that the highest temperature my laptop reaches is 75C. Which leads me into thinking its a software problem.

Also when the laptop's under high load, when i take my charger out the processor clock speed kicks up and i get more fps for a few seconds before it eventually drops back down to normal low again

If anyone can help i'd appreciate it greatly

Just out of interest I thought I would ask this as my 1.4Ghz Athlon at 1.5Ghz with a Y-Tech 4000 rpm fan is reasonably loud. I wouldn't like to consider the noise necessary to overclock a chip from 1.6Ghz to 2.2Ghz with air cooling (600Mhz!!). I used to have Delta Fan on my SK6 heatsink but it was unbearable and I seem to get loaded temps of about 40 degrees celcius with the lower specification fan so I am ok with my 100Mhz overclock (via 133 fsb -> 143 fsb, A7M266 doesn't have multiplier dip switches or bios settings).

One reason I have always considered Intel CPU as an alternative to my beloved AMD chip is the ability to run cooler and therefore require a less deafening HSF.

So does anyone currently have a P4 overclocked significantly (Particularly the "a" northwoods) and can provide any information about the cooling that they need?

A:3DS Competition prize: P4 1.6a running at 2.2Ghz. With what cooling?

Most of the posts I've seen, pple are using air cooling with even the stock HSF!!! This isn't really surprising since the Northwood core is capable in running up to speeds of >2.2Ghz

I upgrading an old Packard Bell iMedia for my mother - ive stuck another stick of 512Mb in to give total of 768Mb and its much better but the proccessing lacks a bit - i can see even in web page rendering appears to be slower than my laptop on wifi (ive TCP optimized it and optimized firefox - its not the internet can download at 1.3MB/s and 29ms pings)

im pushed to think its the poor processing of the 2Ghz celeron with only 128k L2-Cache -
now the mobo supports upto P4 2.4Ghz \ 400Mhz \ 512k but i can only find 2Ghz \ 400Mhz \ 512K on ebay so this means that the chip will be same speed but have 512K L2-Cache (four-times more onboard memory) for only £10

is it worth making the swap?

I use a number of Dell Poweredge T20 Servers as PCs running Win10 but I have an issue with one specification which refuses to display graphics clearly.
Hardware is:
Intel Xeon E3-1225 v3 3.2GHz (3.6GHz boost) Quad-Core, 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3 ECC UDIMM, 1TB 7200rpm LFF SATA, Gigabit LAN, 290W PSU
No amount of driver downloads seems to resolve this. All cables changed. Display changed. Nothing else to change.
Dell have offered to replace the MB but before I do that, I want to be sure it is a MB issue and not some other rouge problem.
Problem even persists when using an additional GPU so something definitely wrong here.

I have been having a bad time with an Intel Celeron 1.2GHZ (belonging to my brother-in-law).

The checksum error was cured with a battery change.

But then, Win98 installation would stop near the early stages.

Finally when Win 98 was installed by brute force, MS Office and other software would not install ( the m/c would hang).

It was diagnosed as a problem in the CD reader, so that was replaced by a new CD/DVD combo writer.

Still some s/w applications would not install, and though XP did get installed, the PC behaved erratically, in that it would sometimes boot & sometimes not.

(couldn?t catch any virus with Norton 2005)

So the hard disk was replaced, on the advice of the support person.

Now when the PC does boot (about once in 15 attempts), it seems to work normally (actually no one dares use it too much, now).

I finally checked out the N-E voltage. It came out around 11V ( surely higher than recommended).

The support person says that this is the crux of the problem, and that at his workshop the PC was behaving perfectly.

My cousin, who has been (after doing a course in PC maintenance) practicing for around 8 years, says that the PC should not malfunction unless the N-E voltage meets or exceeds 25 V.

(And one guy actually has no earthing at his place, but his PC seems to work normally !!)

He also said to check for loose contact in the power supply to the motherboard.

Another thing he suggested was to check out the capacitors (... Read more

A:Problems with an old Celeron 1.2GHZ

Sometimes replacing a domed capacitor will fix a problem with the majority of the time it is indicative of a much more serious problem. Replacement of the motherboard is probably going to be the only way to fix it.
Such an old board will not be easy to find either.
About the only chance you have is to have a look on eBay, if you should decide to go down that route any need to make sure that you either get a motherboard with ram in it or that the motherboard you get is compatible with the ram you already have.

windows xp x32
AMD Athlon xp 1900+
Visiontek radeon x1300 256mb PCI
300 Watt power supply
1.5gb ddr ram
Edit: so u think if i change the battery it could mabey do something also ive tried looking for the multiplier along time ago when i got the computer and i couldnt find an option to change it, its set to 12 and cannot be changed. and i dont think this is just a reporting error because when this problem wasnt here the option to change the speed of the processor at next boot was 133 which was 1.6ghz now its like at 100 i think..

A:computer was 1.6ghz now 1.2ghz??

You could check in the BIOS if you haven't and see if the processor multiplier is set correctly and set it if its not. If you have a dead CMOS battery this info can be lost when all power is removed and on power up, the system uses the default setting.

Otherwise you should get a CPU benchmark program and make sure its not just a reporting error. Having a bunch of stuff attached might burden the processor and slow things down some but it wouldn't actually cause the processor to have a slower operating speed.

The original fan was a cooler master don?t know what model it?s a 60mm fan capable of about 3,500RPM it just has 4 holes in the corners to screw it onto the heatsink. If I need too I will replace the heat sink but its one of those dodgy metal clips that attaches to the processor socket and I hear after a few years the sockets can become brittle from all the heat. The motherboard is a MSI K7T Turbo Ver. 3. If possible I would like to purchase this product in some shop like PCworld or Compustore as I have no Credit Card

A:Underclocking Pentium D 3.2GHz?

I think that your overheating problem is related to something else. Under clocking is (not) your fix. First look at the seating of your CPU. I advise re- seating and use Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound. Is your heat sink clean? How about the ventilation and fan support in your machine? Also, did this start happening recently?...or when? I have run a bunch of Pentium D dual core CPU's with no overheating at all. If you take a good look at your machine, make sure that your CPU is seated solidly, I believe that you will find the problem.

I purchased a used computer from a refurbished "computer warehouse" about a week ago. It froze on me a few times so i took it back yesterday and had them give me another one. Then the same thing started happening here. My laptop thats only 1.8ghs 512 ram doesnt even freeze and i do the exact same thing on it. Heres what i usually have open.

Youtube
Mozilla
and thats pretty much it. I dont really do much on them.

So I got the AVG 11 30 trial to see if it was a virus. Scanned computer, removed viruses. Still, the problem keeps happening.

Then I downloaded a registry cleaner, a few actually, but never installed more than one at a time. The cleaners said that she computer was cleaned out, then it still freezes.

I dont know where to go from here, since the computer was cleaned out already so theres not many programs that can be causing the problem i think. It has zero viruses and clean registry.

When the computer freezes its in the middle of nowhere, but it has only happened when Im on it, doing different things so I have not been able to notice any patterns.

I figured that a 3.2ghz and 1GB ram computer would be able to handle my average day to day use that my 1.8ghz laptop can clearly handle.

Do you guys have an idea of what it could be? What other test i can do?

Please help, its getting to be a headache knowing i have a decently powerful computer that freezes up.

i hate turning it off through the power button....

thanks guys

A:Computer crashes. Its 3.2Ghz 1gb Ram 600GbHD

Sounds like corrupt registry. When you find computers in these kind of places, there often not working right, which is why they are returned. The previous owner probably just bought a new one.

Anyways, you need to rewind your registry to an earlier state, but first, I would download all the newest drivers from the internet and put them in c:\drivers. If you don't do this first, you'll find yourself having some devices not having any drivers associated with them. I would then use Ubuntu to rewind the registry. Here is how:

1) Download, burn and boot to Ubuntu.
2) Click places and find your hard drive (the one with a windows folder in it)
3) If you have a Driver CD, please copy the contents of it to a new folder which should be designated the name "drivers." If not, using the internet, download all the drivers to the drivers folder. Reason for doing this is because the next few steps rewinds your registry and will require you to install drivers.
4) Rename the Windows\system32\config\system file to system.bad
5) Copy Windows\repair\system to the Windows\system32\config folder and restart.
6) Reboot to windows and try again.

Hi i have a Asus A8N32-SLI with a AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2.2GHz Socket 939 and i have it overclocked to 2.9Ghz on a 11x Multiply and it seem pretty stable when playing call of duty 4 etc. But as i lower the Multiply to 9x and put FSB overclock to (325) which makes it 2925 Ghz the pc boots but its not stable on the desktop would high performance DRR 400Mhz OCZ Performance DDR400,corsair xms etc make it more stable on the lower 9x multiply since the Ram iam using now is just cheap

A:AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2.2GHz overclock

RAM makes a big difference. I've had good experience from OCZ and Corsair. You may want to try adjusting the voltage on the cpu or the memory. Though the cheap memory may not do so good with adjusting the voltage.

i was just curious about how hot they can safely run and if they run better colder even if there already in the safe area.

mine runs at around 39 celsius

A:what is a safe temp reading for a 2ghz p4?

According to the Intel Active monitor I have installed for my pentium 4 processor zone, I would be in the green zone until I reached 60 degrees Celsius. From 60 Celsius to 75 Celsius, I would be in the yellow zone. If I am over 75 Celsius, I need to be very very concerned because now I am in the red zone.

I am using an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000 and was interested in overclocking to upgrade my computer performance. So i did, i went in and changed it from the normal 2.6 to 3.2, i saved and let it run through the loading process. It got to the windows loading screen and loaded windows, right when that screen went away, my computer just resets and goes through the same process until i go back into the bios and tune it down. I keep it at 3.0GHz now and it is fine, stays around 35c at max usage. I have a good cooling system and thermal paste. What is the problem here?

A:Computer resets after 3.2GHz overclock

Motherboard manuals tell you if it can be overclocked
But it's no big deal for that amount and possible bad problems.
2.6 is a good number.

Looks like AMD's new *budget* processor is a real rocket ...

According to theinquirer.net ...
WE WERE very close to Athlon 64 and Athlon FX last week but didn't get time to play with the systems. Still the world is too small a place to hide the numbers until the 23rd of this month.

AMD has sent many Athlon FXs and 64s to people around UK and continental Europe and if you are an OEM or a system integrator, you know how these babies look and perform.

The Athlon FX on Windows XP 32 bit beats Intel's latest release 3.2 GHz but that's still the Northwood core, of course. In the Sandra memory test, Athlon FX delivers 5600 MB/s while an Intel Pentium 4 3.2 on Canterwood 875 with DDR 400 of course only delivers 5000MB/s.

In Quake 3 , which was always considered Intel's playground and patch, the Athlon FX is slightly under nine per cent faster on AMD's processor rather than Intel's "brain of a PC".

In Unreal 1024x768, it's close to 18 per cent advantage in AMD's favour. 3Dmark03 at 1024x768 shows that the FX is two per cent slower than on Intel. Pcmark03 is faster on Intel by five per cent since this is an Intel heavily optimized application while the memory score is 18 per cent faster on Athlon FX due to its integrated memory controller.

Still, it's not all roses, roses as Intel still holds the crown in all SSE 2 optimized application and the ones that use HyperThrea... Read more

Wow! Nice!
<quote>In 3Dstudio Max, a Pentium 4 3.2 GHz with HT is about 10 per cent faster if you render just one frame but in a complete scene that you want to render took exactly the same in both systems.</quote>
How does this work? If the Intel is quicker drawing one frame surely its quicker overall when drawing 100 or 1000?

I've recently ordered a Asus P4P800E Deluxe, I had also picked out the " Intel Pentium 4 3.2prescott 800fsb 1mg Cache," I have not set this up yet, as i am yet to order the processor.

The thing is I have been reading that the P4 - 3.2 1MB cache does not work until you update the BIOS of the motherboard, and it says this on the Asus website.
Does this mean the processor will operate at a lower speed until i upgrade, or will it just not work full stop! I don't have a socket 478 processor I can use to boot and then flash the BIOS, so I would be stuck with a Motherboard and processor combo I couldn't use.

Hopefully someone has expreience or knows more information about this.
If I do require to flash the BIOS before that processor will work, could you recommend a similar speed/priced processor, or is there some way I can get round this?

Any help greatly appreciated,
thanks,

Metaphoric.

Edit: This is the link to the processor/BIOS support for the P4P800-E Deluxe http://www.asus.com.tw/support/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx

A:P4P800E Deluxe with Prescott P4 - 3.2GHz/1mb

It should be fine. If you just purchased the motherboard, it probably has latest BIOS. I bought a P4S800 and read the same thing, turned out my Bios was a few revisions newer than needed.

Hi i just recently installed a E8400 and i check on CPU-Z and the clock is stuck at 2ghz.

I look online and it tells me to turn off speed step but in my bios there is no option to do so.

My mobo is a 0RY007 from dell.

There is no need to turn off speedstep.
Put your CPU under load, there is probably nothing wrong.

My MB can't go past an EE 955 or 965 EE so I can't go to a Core Duo or anything like that. I am using 32-bit Vista Ultimate with 4GB of RAM and an ATI 4670 card, primarily for watching SageTV. The board has a 975X chipset.

My question is would I notice much of an improvement jumping within the 900 series going from a 3.2GHz 800MHz FSB to the 3.46 or 3.73GHz 1066 FSB? Particularly for using DirectShow filters for decoding H.264 video.

I need to prolong this computer as long as I can, and I can't adequately overclock my current CPU, so that is out as well.

Any opinions would be appreciated, especially from anyone who has actually tried that sort of jump.

Thanks.

A:Pentium D 3.2GHz 800MHz FSB to 955 EE or 965 EE 1066 - Worth it?

According to Intel, that chipset supports core 2 duo's with a FSB of 1066 MHz or less. A good option would be the Core 2 Duo E7500.

Hey its me again, I was wondering again which would be better a Pentium 4 prescott(3.2ghz) or AMD Athlon 64 3500+? And before you say AMD like most people do, I was looking at these performance charts on some websites and they said that the P4 Prescott was better than AMD 3500+... So I don't know if most of you guys are fanboys or just people that think the Athlon name sounds cool and think its better. So just please tell me which one of these processors is better and why! :hotouch:

A:Pentium 4 presscott(3.2ghz) or AMD athlon 64 3500+???

http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_2004.html

Use this interactive chart to see performance benchmarks between processors. You'll see that P4 beats Athlon in some, and Athlon beats P4 in some. All depends on what you use your computer for.

I mainly want performance for my gaming. And in THAT particular arena Athlon beats out P4 cleanly so if it were me, the choice would be easy. The Athlon64 3500 is a great CPU.
