Yoga 920 + Thunderbolt 3 Dock Monitors sleep issue

Q: Yoga 920 + Thunderbolt 3 Dock Monitors sleep issue

Hi, I got Yoga 920 with Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Dock that is connected to two 4k Samsung monitors. Just recently when I put Yoga 920 to sleep the monitors will switch off, but in 10-15 sec start looking for a signal.Basicaly screen goes to black (looks like monitor is off) and then in 10 sec it switches on a show blank screen with input name on (DisplayPort) and than it goes off and in 10 sec on with input name ..... this keeps cycling on and off. This is happening on both monitors. It's strange as it used to work fine untill recently (apropox 1 week ago). Im on latest bios with Yoga 920 and latest firmware for Thunderbolt 3 Dock and Lenovo Vantage says my system is up to date. The windows recently updated to Windows 10 (1709), not sure if that is related. Any help how to fix this issue?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

OOTB when I connected the Thunderbolt 3 dock to my X1 Yoga (3rd Gen), the monitors behaved correctly. I installed all available updates for the machine as per the Lenovo Companion App, this included some firmware upgrades the dock. When I came into the office this morning, the laptop would not switch from single monitor mode, and the screens connected to the dock are not detected. Steps I've taken:Checked for updates via the Lenovo siteInstalled a Thunderbolt 3 Firmware upgradeReinstalled the Intel Display DriverAttempted to install drivers directly from intel (failed. referred by error message to lenovo website)De-authorized & Re-authorized the dock via Thunderbolt SoftwareI feel like I've made a simple settings change that is preventing the dock from showing me the devices available. So I have a Precision 5510 laptop with Xeon processor, no 4K screen.  My question is about this thunderbolt dock TB16.  I have one HDMI out and was asked if I can make that work on 3 external monitors.  None are 4K.  Is that possible?  Can it function as extended desktop, not duplicated? And if so, is that 3 external plus laptop? Or is the laptop screen on of the 3?

Hello all, I am a solutions architect trying to solve an issue which I have never heard of before. Though others users are having this same issue, my experience has been different then what they have seen. First,The following are the Security options for Thunderbolt devices as per user guide

No Security: Allow Thunderbolt devices to be connected automatically.
User Authorization: Allow Thunderbolt devices to be connected after user authorization.
Secure Connect: Allow Thunderbolt devices to be connected with a saved key that has been approved by the user.
Display Port and USB: Allow only DisplayPort-compatible devices and USB devices to be connected. Thunderbolt devices are not allowed to be connectedI don't think this is entirely true or at least does not apply properly each time. My scenario:T480, T580, or Yoga x1 3rd genImaging with a standalone MDT environmentDevices come pre-configured from Lenovo with Thunderbolt 3 Security Options set to "User Authentication" Installing all the drivers in the latest SCCM driver packs that Lenovo offers - though the x1 3rd gen driver pack was missing on the site this morning. On some devices, this security option seems to do absolutely nothing. MDT uses the local "Administrator" account to perform post-OS items. I'd say about 75% of the devices reach their destination and the user logs in for the first time as a user, not an admin, and the dock functions properly; monitors/mice/keyboard/etc. work. 25% of ... Hello all,I bought a Yoga X1 2018 and during the shop they suggest the Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Dock. Since I thought that having to disconnect only one cable when bringin the laptop from the desk to the meeting room would have been useful, I bought it.With my disappointment I setup everything and I did some tests on the laptop just to discover that the performance of the laptop when powered through the docking station are 1/3 with respect to when it's powered by the 65W power supply and 1/2 of when the laptop is on battery... (234pt vs 640pt vs 563pt | dock/65W/battery)Now since the docking station has a 135W power supply, I really can't think that this is an issue with the supply from the docking. Also since the laptop is even faster on battery I really don't understand how it could be related to the power supply... anyway I've connected both the 65W power supply and the docking and the performance are back to normal. Is there anyone who can suggest me what's going on or how to report this to Lenovo?

So I got a brand new Yoga 370 and just got me a ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock. I have connected it to my laptop through a Thunderbolt 3 (40 Gb/s) USB-C cable male-male 5A, which supports power supply up to 100 W. I have plugged in the dock itself with a Lenovo original cable of 90 W. I also plugged in a HDMI cable from the dock to my monitor. After plugging in, my computer automatically installed the Thunderbolt software, package version 17.3.74.400. It also says I have the Thunderbolt controller generation 15BF, firmware version 4.04, installed now. Monitor works fine. But my Yoga is not charging. I tried to restart the computer, unplug the dock, and I even installed the Lenovo Power Management software from the Lenovo website, which I assume is then the latest version. Any ideas of what could possibly be wrong here? It is a bit of a disappointment as I was hoping this would work perfectly fine right away. I spent some 50 dollars on the USB C cable and another 150 on the dock itself. Thanks

In short: can you recommend a graphics dock suitable for the Yoga X1 2nd gen? I just got this decked out ThinkPad Yoga X1 (second generation) and all it really needs to crush graphics-demanding games is an external graphics card. I've read articles about using Thunderbolt 3 graphics docks for just this use case, and I've read about a specific Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 graphics doc which appears to be only compatible with one model (not mine). What I can't find is anything about plugging one of these into my computer, or if it supports such a thing at all... Can any computer with Thunderbolt 3 use generic Thunderbolt 3 external, self-powered graphics cards?

I have a new T480 and Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 dock. I find that often when I close--but in no way shut down--the computer for the night, when I restart in the morning, it completely restarts, so I lose open tabs, unsaved work, etc. I can understand enough of the system event log to determine that the computer always goes to sleep when I close it, then, per the power plan, hibernates three hours later--or at least tries to. The first sign of trouble in the logs comes at the time of hibernation. For example, at 2:37:25 this morning there is the routine Information event, "The system is entering sleep. Sleep Reason: Hibernate from Sleep - Fixed Timeout." This is followed immediately by the warning, "6105 - deauth after EAPOL key exchange sequence". Over the next 5 minutes come two more warnings and eight errors. Then nothing until I start the machine in the morning. One of the first events on restart is the information message, "The last shutdown's success status was false. The last boot's success status was true." It appears to me that this only happens if the computer is plugged into the Thunderbolt 3 dock overnight. To the dock are connected a (gigabit) ethernet cable, a displayport monitor, a mouse, a keyboard, and a pair of headphones. Here is a fuller dump of the error log at the last time it was hibernating, or trying to: Level Date and Time Source Event ID Task CategoryError 7/30/2018 2:41:33 AM Microsoft-Windows-DistributedCOM 10010 None The server {3EB... Anyone have a fix for the x1 carbon laptop going to sleep mode very quickly (1-2 minutes) while using a lenovo docking station?  It doesnt happen when i use the laptop without dock.  Ive tried all the normal setting in windows.  they are set to 15-20 minutes.  It still happens.  Ive updated the drivers for the docking station.  It still happens.  This is also an issue with an employee's 4th generation X1 and a USB-C dock.  After waiting for 25 minutes on lenovo chat and no one responding, i called in.  They spent 30 minutes playing with the same settings then said it was a software issue and transfered me to another department.  They tried to charge me $200 to fix the problem.  My laptop and dock are less than 6 months old.  I'm extremly upset with lenovo!

I have recently purchased both of the subject items.  I was informed via chat channels with Lenovo that the graphics dock would work with the X1 Yoga 3rd Gen.  However, upon connection, my Yoga recognizes that a Thunderbolt device has been connected but it does not recognize that a graphics card or USB ports exist.  Thus, my mouse, keyboard, and monitor do not work while connected to graphics dock.  I have downloaded and installed the drivers for the graphics dock but the result is still the same.  Does the graphics dock really work with the X1 Yoga 3rd Gen?  If so, is there a BIOS setting I must address to make this configuration work?

hi, I have setup one of my faculty with a Yoga 920131KB plus Thunderbolt 3 Dock. He has an existing monitor (Samsung Syncmaster P2450) that should support 1920x1080. Seems to be current on all drivers and patches under Win10 EDU version. (Including the CCG4 Firmware Update to v55). We are using the HDMI output from the dock. If we try to configure extended desktop to the Samsung monitor at 1920x1080, the screen extends off both sides about half an inch. Maybe also a quarter inch over at the top.  As a work-around, set at 1680x1050, video generally works as expected, but the display starts about 2" in from either side. Generally I don't like using add-on utilities (prefer to just use standard windows built-in options), but somewhere along the line this has the Intel Graphics HD Utility.  I was using that to switch resolution, the Windows settings seemed to track along with changes in the Intel utility, but still overscanned the display.  I played with some other settings in the utility about Display Scale (other than 100%), didn't seem to change anything. A second problem occurs with this setup: when the laptop is used at home, put to sleep, then plugged into the dock, the screen is displayed on the external monitor at maybe 200% (?).  That is, you only see the central portion of the image.  No fiddling with settings seems to correct it, but rebooting usually fixes it. The second problem also occurs with a similar Yoga 920 + Dock (d... Also wanted to mention something I noticed while working on this: I saved a log from the Intel Utility. There is a section in there about "Maximum Image Size". This seemed to be correct for the laptop display (12.2"x6.69") but the Samsung was listed at 6.3" x 3.54"    It is a 24" diagonal display, so that is obviously wrong, but I don't know that it is important. Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620 Report Date: Monday, February 5, 2018Report Time [hh:mm:ss]: 1:21:19 PMDriver Version: 23.20.16.4849Operating System: Windows* 10 Education (10.0.16299)Physical Memory: 16225 MBVendor ID: 8086Device ID: 5917Device Revision: 07Graphics Output Protocol (GOP) Version: 9.0.1066Current Resolution: 1680 x 1050 Display Type: DigitalDDC2 Protocol: SupportedGamma: 2.2Connector Type: DisplayPortDevice Type: DisplayPortMaximum Image SizeHorizontal Size: 6.3 inchesVertical Size: 3.54 inches

In the last month I purchased a Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2G and the Thuderbolt USB C dock. Since the USB C cable that comes with the dock is too short to allow the dock on the right and laptop on the left (in laptop mode), I put the notebook in tent mode and all works fine---except... Everytime I power up from hibernate it starts beeping about once a second and does not stop. I have to disconnect from the dock, flip it to laptop mode (this is where the beeping stops), return it to tent mode, and then plug the dock back in. It seems that Lenovo, like everybody else, is rushing things to market with plans to fix bugs later (maybe). Any thoughts I how to stop the beeping?  The first time it happened I closed all the apps to reboot and it still was beeping. Thanks.

I purchased the Thunderbolt 3 Dock with my Yoga 920 as it was listed as an accessory during my Yoga 920 purchase back in November.  I finally got around to setting it up and I can't seem to get the power button the dock to turn on my laptop.  The button glows white when my laptop is plugged in but the button will not turn the laptop on.  I have my power button option in Windows set to "when i press power button while plugged in, the laptop will go to sleep."  So even while the laptop is connected to the dock via USB-C/thunderbolt and the laptop is on, when I push the power button the dock, it doesn't put the laptop to sleep either--it does nothing. Googling around, I see there is a newer dock called USB-C dock and it's listed as compatible with the 920 whereas as the Thunderbolt 3 Dock is not listed as compatible.  Could this be the issue?   I also have thunderbolt software installed and it detects the dock in the software. I need some help please!

Posting it again.) Hey group, While testing the performance of the SSD in my X1Y3 with CrystalDiskMark, I noticed a drastic performance drop in 4KiB Q(ueue)8T(hread)8 when connected to the Thunderbolt 3 Dock as compared to connected to AC power:  Dock: Random Read 4KiB (Q=  8,T= 8) :   318.764 MB/s [  77823.2 IOPS]Random Write 4KiB (Q=  8,T= 8) :   256.349 MB/s [  62585.2 IOPS] AC Power:Random Read 4KiB (Q= 8,T= 8) : 943.671 MB/s [ 230388.4 IOPS]Random Write 4KiB (Q= 8,T= 8) : 1024.264 MB/s [ 250064.5 IOPS] I noticed that with the Dock, the CPU usage during the test was only about 50%, whereas on AC power it was about 100%. (See the attached pictures). With the performance drop, I also heard very audible "coil whine". I can't quite tell if it was only coming from the dock or both the dock and the laptop. All connected devices were unplugged from the dock. The only two cables connected to the dock were the AC cord and the Thunderbolt 3 cable. The noise is NOT heard while using AC power. I thought the noise was just annoying before, but now with this performance drop, I'm a bit more concerned... Based on my experience with Lenovo Tech Support, I don't think I'd get any real advice from them. I was wondering if anyone else noticed the same issue and what do you think is causing it?  Thank so much for your help! ... Read more

I have Lenovo Yoga 370 and has a problem of getting multichannel audio work through Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Dock with HDMI port. I couldn't get the audio output with 5.1 channel audio on that HDMI and Dislay Port. Is there something wrong with my setup or this is a limitation of Thunderbolt 3 Dock to provide multichannel audio. I can use only 2 channel stereo audio only.

My Yoga works fine with Thunderbolt 3 eGPU when i put it on when Notebook is running. If I try to restart or turn Notebook on with eGPU Dock I get no signal for screen. Not on Notebook Display and not on external Display.  There is no way to get a signal on any Port or to change output. The only Way then is a Hard Reset. After that everything works finde, even the eGPU.I tried this with Razer Core X and HP Omen Accelerator and Razer support said its a Problem with the Thunderbolt3 Driver.Anybody had this Problem too?I tried Drivers from Lenovo and from Manufactures.

When my thinkpad x1 yoga 3rd gen is connected to my thinkpad thunderbolt 3 docking station and either automatically or manually entered into "modern standby" state, see this thread, i'm finding that my usb 3.0 / type A port connected jabra speak[er phone] 410 power light stays lit vs turning off as it did with my old x1 carbon 2nd gen onelink pro dock setup.  I have this usb speakerphone device plugged into port 7 / usb 3.0 connector shown in the thunderbolt 3 dock user guide page 6 image which is not an always on usb 3.0 / type A connector like port 6 is so i would have expected it to be turned off in "modern standby" state.  I tried plugging it into the other non-powerd usb 3.0 / type A connector ports on dock, i.e. the two port 9 options, and it made no difference.  Any insights as to what is going on hear and how i address this?

Hi
I Just bought TB15 and stated using it.
The problem, however, is that my XPS 13 becomes pretty hot when it is connected to the dock.
It becomes hot and operates fan even for normal light uses like web surfing or listening music.
Is it normal issue that all the user have or abnormal?
Thanks!

Additionally, when i connect intel realsense camera to TB15, all devices connected to TB15 is disabled and does not work. The laptop must be restarted to be operated normally.
