Using live messenger during windows update installation

Q: Using live messenger during windows update installation

Hello

Sorry this might be a dumb question, but will my computer be ok if I opened live messenger and sent a few messges while windows update was being installed on full load on my HDD? I'm kinda worried it would cause some bugs or errors since there was lag when I was typing, opening windows etc wtih live messenger.

Preferred Solution: Using live messenger during windows update installation

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Using live messenger during windows update installation

Just personal opinion, and others may disagree. I prefer to let Windows Update and other "critical" operations like system images, creation of restore points, etc not have anything else going on in the background. Whenever system files are being accessed, read, or written to, I'd rather have all of my computer's resources concentrating on just that one task. But that's just me.

Downloaded Messenger 2011 onto my new computer recently; however, when I went to open it, it couldn't find the files it needed. Went searching for the program everywhere, nowhere to be found, not even on the Programs List. So, I decided, best thing to do would be to re-download it, but when the new installer opened, it said that the program was already installed, despite its apparent absence from the computer.
There is a similar problem with Adobe Flash - tried to re-download it, but it continues to believe it's on my system. Hopefully I explained the problem well :/

Any and all help appreciated.

Hello,

I would like to install Windows Live on Vista Business, Service Pack 1, and have obtained the only installer I could find from the official site. However, it installs to c: by default, and I see no options to change this setting. Since I use c: only for system files, I'd like to know if it's possible to manually install the program to another drive.

A:Problems with Windows live messenger 9.0 installation

You might have some left over installation file information in your registry. Try running the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and remove any old instances of Messenger and Visual Studios you find in the output list. Download the cleanup file and save. Then run as Administrator.

I have had Windows Live Messenger installed for a long time and I used to use it a lot, but not so much recently. Tonight I opened it up to try to contact someone and it opened fine, but the window included a message telling me that there was a newer version available and asked if I wanted to get the newer version. I clicked "yes" and an installation process began. I had a choice of things to install, but the only item I selected was Windows Live messenger. The process seemed to take longer than what I would have expected, but I patiently waited until it reached 100% installed. Unfortunately a message appeared telling me that it could not install Windows Live Messenger and Windows Live Toolbar (which I had not asked for) and the installation was aborted. It gave an error number 0x80004004 for the Windows Live Messenger and for the Windows Live Toolbar it said it was unable to uninstall an older version of Windows Live Toolbar.

So I figured I would just keep using the version that I had, only that version no longer works. When I click on the icon for Windows Live Messenger I get a message saying that it cannot locate Windows Live Messeger.lnk.

So I went to "Add/Remove Programs" and tried to remove Windows Live Toolbar, but there I got a message saying that it could not find WLToolbar.msi. I then did a "Search" of my hard drive and the search results came up with nothing.

So then I went to www.microsoft.com, searched for Windows Live Messenger, ... Read more

I found an answer on another forum. I went to microsoft.com and downloaded a program named msicuu2.exe. When you install and run it, it displays a list of programs that have been successfully or unsuccessfully installed by a microsoft install program. You can then select one/all of those programs to remove. Although (at least in my case), it didn't really remove the software, it removed whatever it was that was keeping me from being able to install Windows Live Messenger. Everything is working fine now!

Hi

I have a new notebook since today (Asus Aspire 5102) with Windows Vista on it.
I installed Windows Live Messenger but I can't connect to the .net network. It says that the firewall isn't set up properly for Windows Live Messenger.

Though, the firewall is shut down...

So I got no firewall up and running. I have the same problem with the Windows Vista update system, AVG Update manager. They can't connect to the internet.

The internet connection is fine, I can surf on the net with internet explorer and firefox.

Anybody has an idea what the problem could be?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Philip,

For windows live messenger you have to edit firewall settings. Windows Firewall can prevent the message from leaving your computer, thereby preventing the malware from spreading to other users. This post on firewall settings for msn messenger describes how to check if it's your firewall that is blocking msn messenger. It would be helpful for you to get your Live Messenger up and running. Hello,

I beg to anyone who can help me out.

My computer simply wont download any windows update program. If I try to go the windows upgrade website, and actually find the program I need, i click on the "DONWLOAD" button, however before the software downloads the webpage goes blank and it tells me that i have and internet connection problem, when its working fine and at top speed. I tried using IE, Firefox and its the same thing.

Ive read in other forums that I need the windows updates to install the new windows live messenger, but I cant download any upgrade form the windows upgrade website. The disconnection or offline blank page appears every time I click any DOWNLOAD button.

I know that the page isnt being blocked by my AVAST anti-virus program.

Secondly when i log to MSN and click the link to get the windows live update. I get the installation menu and it starts downloading, but it always stops around 46% and tells the same error: 0x80004004. When i click the link that takes you to the solution problem in g live website, guess what???. I cant open the webpage because my it says that the page cant be opened due to my Internet connection????????

I dont know if its because of a configurated program in my computer that keeps blocking me or if its something else.

Please could anyone give me some technical advice or opinion.

USB mouse, Modem to a BT Broadband line, the new webcam.

I installled a new "Creative Webcam Live" unit yesterday for her birthday. She uses MSN messenger on the internet using the broadband line and the webcam is intended to provide streamed live video images when chatting to her friends.

The installation did have problems and claimed some files could not be located but I search the c drive for the files required, found them all in c:\windows\system and navigated the installation wizard to them when asked using "browse" and the installation seemed to run to successful completion.

The application software provided titled "Webcam Manage Center" seems to run okay, starts the webcam and we can see high quality real time streamed images in the video window on the screen. So all seems well.

However, when she starts up the internet connection and signs into MSN Messenger with the live video option enabled, the session starts okay with good streamed video working too but quickly (after around 30 secs) the video streaming freezes and the image remains static and does not reset itself. MSN messenger continues without problem and she can type/chat to her friends with the video image ther... Read more

Hi everyone,

Windows Live Messenger 8.5 Beta (Build 8.5.1235.0517) has been updated to (Build 8.5.1238.0601). This has been done through Windows Update in Vista. Or you can download it from Live's site:

If you were using A-Patch with the first 8.5 Beta build (above), you will need to download a updated version of it to work with the newer second build (above). Here's the link:

This is a slightly annoying problem. I've disabled Windows Live Messenger from starting up, both through Messenger's options and through MSCONFIG. The program doesn't start when Windows starts. But when I log on to Windows Live Mail through a web browser, Messenger starts up on it's own. I cannot figure out a way to disable this. I've looked through Live Mail options and can't find anything to denote starting up the program. I only use my Live Mail account for junk mail, but need to check it occasionally and would prefer it if Messenger didn't start up on it's own.

I find the assocation of windows live mail and messenger very annoying. In WL Mail, I use both my hotmail and gmail accounts. I prefer to save my passwords so I don't have to enter them every time I open my mail. However, if I get WL Mail to rememberr my passwords, my hotmail account automatically pops up first when I want to sign into WL Messenger, even though I never use hotmail in messenger (just the gmail sign-in). So now, I always have to change the sign-in information on messenger because somehow it prefers my hotmail account.
Simply clickinig 'forget me' in WL Messenger is not the solution since this also makes WL Mail forget my hotmail password, so I have to enter this one very time I open my mail.

So somehow I would like to dissociate the two, to have WL Mail to remember my passwords, but WL Messenger to forget the hotmail account. Does anyone know if there's any way to do so? I hate these automatic associations that you don't have any control over!

I get the warning message that I need to update but when I click on Live Update I get an error message saying that Live Update isn't installed. I've tried reinstalling it to no avail. Could it be that Symantec will allow only so many installations since they have no way of knowing whether it's a reinstallation on the same computer or a new installation on another computer?

The only other possibility which I can think of is this: In making the installation I didn't allow the Clean Sweep feature to be installed. But I don't see how there could be any interrelationship between the two.

I installed the latest Live Messenger. Since then, every time I add a contact it is blocked. Ok it is easy to unblock but a PITA. Also when someone I'm chatting to puts an Emoticon on the page, if I try to save it, it tells me the name I have used for it is already being used. I have tried putting in other words with the same result.
I reinstalled Messenger 9 and now am having the same problem with that as well although it was fine before I uninstalled it.

So, bought mom a new PC and set it all up. It has Windows 7 and of course Live Messenger was starting up everytime she started the computer. I took care of that in MSCONFIG. Still started up. I took care of it again in the Live Messenger Options.

Now, anytime she goes to check her email online at, you guessed it, hotmail, Windows Live Messenger starts up! I have unchecked all options (That aren't greyed out) about starting Live Messenger, but it still starts when you go to the msn.com page and click on just about anything.

I went to Uninstall Programs and Windows Live Messenger is not even listed!!

Does anyone know how I can either completely uninstall this nuisance of a program or keep it from EVER starting up? My mother will never use this, and if I wanted her on an IM program this wouldn't be the one.

Thanks for your time!

A:Windows Live Messenger - Help!

if you are looking to uninstall it (windows live messenger)

>control panel
>programs and features
>windows live essentials

that will start a "universal" uninstaller for all the live essential programs. When it starts up choose uninstal the you will be given a list of all the essential services you have installed, just choose messenger and you will be on your way.

However, if you have windows live mail installed as an email client that may be your issue. Go to the options tab for live mail, general tab and make sure there is no tick in the box beside "Automatically log on to Windows Live Messenger" Most people forget about this and its ticked by default so everytime you check your email your IM starts ... anoying I know.

Just noticed from today I have not been able to send messages to my friend. I can see her online but when I attempt to send a message it doesn't get sent. Keeps coming up with a couldn't deliver message on the dialogue box. We both have hotmail.com email accounts. I was just talking with her yesterday and no problems chatting. I talked with my other friends online and no problem. What are the likely causes of not being able to send messages to my friend? Thanks!

Not sure if this is related ot not, but I have been unable to connect to Windows Live Messenger for the past few days with just one of my accounts. The other one works fine. When I log ito the windows live account the messenger service continually says, "reconnecting in 30...29...28" all the way down to zero before it resets.

any ideas?

Hi. I've been using WLM for a while, and for the past few months I've been getting a 0xc0000005 error when trying to sign in. I looked up the error code and have been pretty much lost as to why I'm getting that error. I am using a ((Sorta)) Dell computer, mostly rebuilt with new parts. Only thing left from the original is the sound card. So I don't have any Sony products in this tower. I also ran a HJT, like it suggested in another thread where the poster did not specify what they did exactly to fix the issue.

Here's the HJT log:

hi all ,

windows live messenger just keeps exiting once its been signed in by a user? any idea why ?

A:windows live messenger

That happened to me before i downloaded the updated version of live messenger. Make sure you have the latest as it you don't, live messnger will prompt you that you will need to install the latest one before you can sign in

I have recently replaced my laptop with one running Windows 7 and am still finding my way around this new O.S I downloaded Skype last week and now have Windows Live Messenger appearing on the task bar and on the screen every time I turn on the computer. As I do not wish to use this program - never have used it - I would like to disable it at least, or better still, uninstall it. I am unable to find how I can do this and hope someone out there can advise. There were 43 updates installed a few days ago and I am wondering if this is why it is now so visible. The laptop is only a month old and there was no Live Messenger visible until the updates.

Many thanks

You can uninstall Windows Live Messenger.

From your start menu, click Control Panel.

From Control Panel, choose Programs and Features.

When the Uninstall panel opens, scroll down and look for Windows Live Essentials and click it.

You will then be given a choice to remove or repair, choose Remove.

A list of installed Windows Essentials applications will be presented. Check the box for Messenger, then click Uninstall. If there are any other Live Essential programs you want to uninstall, check those boxes also.

Not long ago, I received an update for Windows Live Essentials 2011, so it is possible that you did also and that's how it ended up on your computer. If this is the case, you may end up getting it reinstalled if you have Microsoft updates set to automatically install.

When signing into wlm the page opens and as soon as it connects an error message appears (with the option to send to microsft; which I have done 20/30 times now) and then wlm shuts down. This sometimes then crashes IE. THIS ONLY HAPPENS ON ONE MACHINE - I can sign on on another PC with no problems, and a friend can sign on from the machine that wont allow me to sign on. WE have uninstalled wlm 8, deleted wlm from the registry and reinstalled - the same thing happens.

ANy ideas?

I don't know if I'm the only one but the past few days I am receiving some strange
messages about being signed into MSN & Messenger. In addition, I have received
some messages from MSN to change my password.

Any ideas

Thanks

A:Windows Live & Messenger

Are you actually using the Messenger at all? Cause if not, I strongly recommend removing it from your system.

Where are you getting these strange messages? Do they simply pop up on your desktop, or you see them in your browser, or you are running the messenger?

A:Windows Live Messenger

From what I read on their site for system requirements, it says that XP 64-bit aren't supported (of course, oddly enough, they're supported on the 64-bit versions of Vista and Windows 7.... )From: Windows Live Messenger System Requirements

Well i dont know if im the only person who encounters this... my Live Messenger sometimes freeze the whole PC when signing-in .... well, easy to say, mostly it freezed... rarely it doesnt only when i have to minimize the sign-in windows for several minutes then theres no freeze... is anybody have way to solve this.... im bored to these freeze where i have to reset my PC... just because of one tiny simple software... thanx!!

oh.. bfore when im using MSN 7.5 ... these never occurs! but now the old version are not allowed to use by MSN authorities, have to update using the buggy new live mesenger...

A:Windows Live Messenger

I stopped using the standard MSN client years ago for similar reasons. Try downloading and installing Miranda (available free from HERE) and use that instead.

Miranda also allows you to connect to AIM, ICQ and Yahoo! (amongst others) all through the same interface.

Hey Guys,

I wonder if someone could tell me this, is it possible for someone to track you down via WLM?

I know it uses proxy servers for the communication and that if someone sends a file that it is possible to make a connection that way. However the new WLM has a picture sharing thing where the picture just pops up rather than it being copied to your computer...is it possible to obtain the other persons IP from any part of the new WLM?

Thanks

A:Windows Live Messenger...

no mate that is not possible the only way they can get connection on you if they send you file and you open its impossible to get all that through a jpg.gmp.ect picture file...
does that answer you question mate ?
