AXWIN Frame Window: svchost.exe - Application Error

Q: AXWIN Frame Window: svchost.exe - Application Error

Hello, starting about a week or so ago, a few minutes after I start up my computer (a Dell Inspiron E1705 running Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3) a window pops up with the title: "AXWIN Frame Window: svchost.exe - Application Error." In the box is written:

"The instruction at "0x02b5f7a0" referenced memory at "0x02b5f7a0". The memory could not be "written".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program

As time goes by, more and more of these windows appear. They remain on top of all other windows and, usually, if either the OK or the Cancel button is pushed a warning window appears telling me my computer will restart in a minute, which it does. Also, by unknown causes, my hard drive is filling up. There wasn't much room to begin with, but up to several Gigs will fill up seemingly without cause. Other than this, the computer seems to work fine--I can move the error window to the side and continue to use it. I don't know if these problems are caused by malware or not. Help would be greatly appreciated. Rygy

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

First may I say thank you, to all of you for what you do. I think this is honorable and speaks volumes of your personal character for you to take your personal time to help individuals like myself. I received a pop-up stating that I had all types of infections on my laptop. I immediately used my MALWAREbytes Antimaleware (free version) program to run a scan. Nothing detected. Then I ram my AVG (free version) Anti-Virus program and it also detected nothing. Then I ran the Spybot Search & Destroy (free version) and it also detected nothing. After seeing the pop-up of the ISO2010 repeatedly, I went to google to search for a removal method and noticed that I was being redirected. I would get the opportunity to see the appropriate links, but once I clicked on those links, I was taken to a similar site sometimes, and other times I was taken to a completely different site. However, I noticed that if I clicked on the link within google's search engine, usually about the 3rd or 4th time on the same link, I would be then connected to the appropriate site. One site did share with me how to remove the ISO2010 program by going into the files section and just deleting that file and 3-4 other files named ISO2010. That all worked fine until a day or two later I received this svchost.exe - Application Error. This error will stay on the desktop until I click on the only two options it provides you, but no matter which one you click on, it starts an automatic shut down/restart of my lap... Read more

I am having a problem with the following error:

AXWIN Frame Window: svchost.exe - Application Error, etc.
Generic Host Process for Win 32 Services, Windows has closed this program. Data Execution Prevention etc.
System by NT/Authority/System DCOM Server Process, etc.

Then the PC begins to shutdown. I have been able to stop the shutdown by using Run Shutdown -a.

Other symptoms earlier included not being able to do an Alt/Ctrl/Del, followed by an hourglass. In the lower right I could see that Task Manager had opened but there was no way to get it on the screen to review/stop processes. End result - a hard reboot was needed to go further.

System restores even back to the initial restore point (which was only about 4 months ago) have not been successful.

I am to the point of wanting to run combofix (I have never done this before) but the warnings seemed very clear that I should post and get help first.

Thank you in advance.

Using Norton, I disabled svchost and all is good (with the huge exception being I cannot get out to the Interent), but the PC is not autoshutting down or getting hung up with the hour glass and Alt/Ctrl/Del always works. Point being, it must be some rogue program that is using svchost to send info over the internet as well as rendering my PC undable to exit without a firm reboot.

Norton, Defender, Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyWare have not removed this problem.

Any ideas? Can someone help me use ComboFix?

Ok mashenden lets pick up where we left off.If you are are using a CD Emulator (Daemon Tools, Alchohol 120%, Astroburn, AnyDVD) be aware that they use hidden drivers with rootkit-like techniques to hide from other applications. When dealing with a malware infection, CD Emulators can interfere with investigative tools producing misleading or inaccurate scan results, false detection of legitimate files, cause unexpected crashes, BSODs, and general 'dross' which often makes it hard to differentiate between malicious rootkits and the legitimate drivers used by CM Emulators. Since CD Emulators use a hidden driver which can be seen as a rootkit and can interfere with investigative tools or cause other problems, it is recommended that they be removed or disabled until disinfection is completed. Please download DeFogger by jpshortstuff and save it to your desktop.Double click DeFoggerexe to run the tool. The application window will appear.Click the Disable button to disable your CD Emulation driversClick Yes to continue.A 'Finished!' message will appear.Click OK...DeFogger will now ask to reboot the machine...click OK. If not, reboot manually.Do not re-enable these drivers until instructed or your system has been cleaned.IMPORTANT! If you receive an error message while running DeFogger, please post the log defogger_disable which will appear on your desktop. Please download ComboFix from one of these locations and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!Note: If you download... "The intsruction at '0x010ef7ao' referenced memory at '0x010ef7ao'. The memory could not be "written".
Click OK to terminate the program
Click CANCEL to debug the program

If i click OK, the internet stops working, if i click CANCEL the computer shuts off.

I tried searching the internet for '0x010ef7ao' but nothing comes up.

Any suggestions, other than a reformat?

Computer keeps having this error.

AXWIN Frame Window:svchost.exe
The instruction at " a bunch of numbers" referenced memory at " a different bunch of numbers". The memory could not be "written".

then it gives me a choice of shut down or debug and when I say debug it shuts down.. This happens about 10 minutes into session after start up. When it shuts down it says its by the NT Authority/System.
If I ignore it, the window does not go away but I can use the computer( I just move it out of the way. )
I have tried system restore, removed a new program downloaded a few days ago and removed random registry entries that I know are not part of my current set up.

OS win xp

Suggestions?

Also, I've also attempted to install flash player. When I double click the downloaded file, it doesn't do anything. Does not confirm if the installation was successful or not. Also, I've noticed that the installer I've recently downloaded from Adobe was automatically deleted.

Thanks!

I am working on a computer which had the PC defender virus. I cleaned the machine using MalwareBytes twice, and scanned using Avast! in a boot-time scan to try to knock out the rest. MalwareBytes seems to find and clean the same three infections and then the system pops up a Data Execution Prevention on Generic Host Process for win32 and then an alert about AXWIN Frame Window: svchost.exe pops up. Close those, and the system does a NT/Authority reboot message with 45 seconds to save your work. Avast! said it cleaned 147 files, but these popups remain.

Also, Internet Explorer is being redirected when I try to search resolutions on that computer, so I downloaded Firefox. After the next reboot, it now redirects all of my requests.

I know it is viral activity, but I am afraid to go any further without consulting the experts. Any assistance you can give me will be much appreciated.

Hi,I have picked up a browser hijacker that redirects to random sites. Sometimes clicking on a Google search link will actually go to the correct site but not always. Along with this, a Data Execution Prevention dialog box comes up when Windows first displays the GUI stating that Windows has closed the Generic Host Process for Win32 Services program. Hello all:
I'm new here; I just registered minutes ago. And I did so because of the box I'm looking at on my screen right now. I'm running Windows XP and just a few days ago, this strange box started popping up after I'm on line five to ten minutes. It looks a little like the old "Illegal Operation" box you used to get with Windows 95. It reads: AXWIN Frame Window: svchost.exe - application error. The instruction at "0x02d0f7a0" referenced memory at "0x02dof7a0". The memory could not be written." Then it tells me to click on OK to terminate the program or click on CANCEL to debug the program. If I do either, it shuts windows down. I get a box on the screen tellling me NT Authority\system is causing the shutdown via "Dcom server process launcher." As I said, it started popping up a few days ago. If I leave it alone and click neither OK not Cancel, the computer operates normally -- I simply move the box around. But it's very disconcerting. I have Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware and Avast! and have run all three and they come up clean. I tried to restore the computer to a previous date -- I picked January 14, as it was a week or so before this popped up -- but I still can't get rid of it. And actually, I came to Bleeping Computer to download and run "Combofix," but while I know these things fairly well, it may be a bit more "tech heavy" than my abilities. Also, I googled "AXWIN... For what it's worth, this turned out to be the Rootkit virus. I'm happy to say that Combofix got rid of it. This really is a good program and it worked very well. I apparently had a bunch of other viruses, trojans, worms, etc., of which I wasn't even aware. But after running Combofix, the number of processes running dropped from something near 120 to 46. So, it worked every, very well.

Many of the references to this message...indicate that it's caused by adware/spyware or nuisance items (toolbars, BHOs) installed by the user.

So...I suggest you take a look at what's installed...and IE add-ons...and see what might be possible to do without.

What program is running when this error pops up?

<<i cannot unistall Avira Antivir>>

What does that mean? Do you get an error when you try to uninstall it? Is it nonresponsive? Why did you try to uninstall it?

Been having issues with my computer as of late... I've run Malwarebytes, Spyhunter, and McAfee with no viruses showing up. I'm unable to boot in safe mode, and when my computer is started up I'm prompted with a window that reads in the highlighted blue bar: AXWIN Frame Window: svchost.exe - Application Error. Then below that in the description it says: The instruction at "0x02e9f7a0" referenced memory at "0x02e9f7a0". The memory could not be "written". Click on OK to terminate the program; Click on CANCEL to debug the program. When I click on OK, I'm just continually prompted with the same type of window, just with a random set of numbers in letters in place of the "0x02e9f7a0". And when I hit CANCEL it gives me a one-minute countdown until my system reboots. So what I do is just drag the window to the bottom of my desktop and I can continue working without that being in the way. However, it is still annoying. As I browse the internet, I am also redirected to random advertisements where I'm given the option to SKIP. Which when I do, I'm automatically taken back to the website I was previously at. This doesn't happen every time I try a new website, but it happens enough to the point I feel something's wrong... And also, when I try to click on a link after searching for something on Google, I am rarely taken to that link, rather a fake search engine/advertisement. Hey guys, im posting this for a friend of mine who is having some serious trouble with her computer. Shes in her last semester of college and does not feel like buying a new computer for these last few weeks.
Heres what is happening:
recently she has had problems with "security tool" which seems to be a pretty common malware problem, that has seemed to subsided but now every time she reboots this message pops up.

"AXWIN Frame Window: svchost.exe - Application Error" ""The instruction at "0x029af7a0" referenced memory at "0x029af7a0". The memory could not be "written".

It then asks her to "click okay to terminate the program, click cancel to debug"

Both of these option end up rebooting the computer and it all happends all over again. Also, it has cause alot of her programs to shut down immediatly after starting them like itunes for example she sees this message "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. send error report"

Thats about it, here is her HJT log"

I have a HP Netbook running Windows XP.
I use Internet Explorer, Avira anti-virus and Malwarebytes.

My problems started about 4 days ago. My computer wouldn't start up properly and would re-start itself when the Start up opened the Avira program. My son suggested I start my computer in Safe Mode with Networking, download the latest updates for the Malwarebytes program and run the full scan. This turned up two trojans and six registry data issues. I quarantined and deleted them. I upgraded the Malwarebytes to the Pro version.

After I finished installing the new Malwarebytes, the Avira found 7 viruses and 5 "hidden" objects; which were removed. [I'm not suggesting the malwarebytes program is in any way related to the objects the Avira program found, only that one event preceded the other].

It was at this time that I started having problems closing down the windows. I could neither minimize nor close them out. When I went to the Start menu to shut down, a window that said "AxWin Frame Window" with a button that said "End Now". That would pop up a few times (2 or 3), I'd close them down and then the computer would be able to close down.

I've re-run the Malwarebytes and Avira programs and nothing is found.

Thank you for your assistance with this.

I would like to thank you in advance for your time and expertise in this matter.
I have a user running a Windows XP 64-bit computer (Dell Precision T5500, Intel Xeon X5550 CPU <2.67GHz>, 30 GB RAM) who was infected with at least one virus.
Malwarebytes Antimalware detected Backdoor.Agent.RC2Gen, PUM.Hijack.Startmenu, and Ultra Defragger Fraud
Symantec Endpoint detected Maljava!gen23

I believe I cleaned up the Backdoor, Startmenu, and Defragger malware, but perhaps not entirely. I tried removing all the viruses with the standard Endpoint and Malwarebytes procedures (normal mode and safe mode). One thing of note was that both NORTON POWER ERASER and SYMANTEC POWER ERASER could not complete because the internet connection would be interrupted during the processing. We tried running each of those tools several times and always ended up with an error stating that the internet connection was terminated and the process could not finish. I evntually removed the infected files (from safe mode), unhid the folders and files that were all changed to HIDDEN, and restored the ALL-USERS startmenu icons from a temp location in the user's profile. Everything SEEMED okay for the most part. Except for what follows.

The Maljava virus keeps popping up in Symantec throughout the day, and the Internet browsers (IE, Firefox or Chrome) sometimes get redirected to unrelated sites. Additionally, the user of the computer reported that upon accessing a result from an Inter... Read more

Hello,

I've seen similar problems discussed here and tried some of the same solutions with limited success. My computer is a little bit useable now.

The system is Windows XP Home Media Center edition. We have McAfee, Ad Aware, Spybot, and Malware Bytes trying but not suceeding.

The symptoms that we first noticed was that when you clicked on search results from Google page you didn't go to the right place. Then we started getting Axwin Frame errors where it said it tried to write memory location and failed and that the computer would soon shut down. I found the shutdown -a help and now I can try to fix the computer.

The first time in installed and ran Malware bytes it found some things but the computer is still infected. I'm running another scan now.

I was thinking of running Combofix but after reading this forum decided to follow the advice and wait for help.

I know I haven't included a lot of detailed error messages, but as I said others on this forum are reporting the exact same symptoms.

Thanks

Hello and welcome. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.Next run ATF and SAS: If you cannot access Safe Mode, run in normal ,but let me know.Note: On Vista, "Windows Temp" is disabled. Help! I've looked at some postings & I seem to have multiple symptoms. My google searches have been redirected. My wmv files are not working (but windows sounds work), I get continual AXWIN frame window errors - unable to write to memory. And I think I may have made things worse by running spybot & not knowing how to answer when it says it has detected changes. Please let me know what you need to help.

I'm getting consistent/regular application errors involving "svchost.exe_SysMain" failures. A typical event message looks like the following:

This is followed (in the event log) by a cascade of errors from the "Service Control Manager Eventlog Provider" such as the following:

The ReadyBoost service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 2 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

The cascade of service/driver errors occurs within 3 to 6 seconds of the initial svchost.exe_SysMain failure and hits a dozen or so other services including but not limited to ...

About 2 weeks ago out of the blue, many things satrted going wrong with my pc. I rebooted and got this message on startup and it hasn't gone since and everyday I discover things that wont work the way they did before this error message appeared.
The full error message is -
the exception unknown software exception(0xc000049) occurred in the application atlocation 0x751b3cbb

I've googled and read soooo many steps to remedy this problem but nothing so far has worked.
One of the main concerns is that I have no audio when it comes to youtube or emails with video applications but media player works fine.
It tells me I have no audio drivers but when I try and get into anything to do with my system, a no dll error message appears or the we've encountered a problem and need to close, debug blah blah.
I've ran anti-virus, I've defragmentted, I've updated everything that it will let me update.

I'm not 100% sure but it seems that perhaps this error has something to do with a windows xp pack 3 update and symantec anti-virus?

Please, I just need to know how to get rid of this and restore my system to full working order.

Appreciate any help.
