Mcafee problems, DivxUpdate.exe problems, slow computer problems, Firefox script problems :(

Q: Mcafee problems, DivxUpdate.exe problems, slow computer problems, Firefox script problems :(

Hey I've been having major problems with my Laptop.
Every ten or so minutes when my McAfee 2010 security suite disables real-time scanning it'll re-enable itself causing a lot of alarming pop-up boxes which is slowing my computer. Not sure whats causing it but it seems like malware.
Next theres this process which starts at windows start-up (DivxUpdate.exe), I don't think this is actually a part of divx. I've read somewhere that it is a form of autorun malware, it consumes 99% of my cpu majorly slowing down my computer, I think I may have similar malware on here that are problematic.
Also my firefox frequently say that there's an unresponsive script which temporarily freezes my whole computer and when I finally manage to get to task manager I have to end the process which seems to be using a regular amount of cpu and memory.
I made a topic exactly 1 month ago but nobody answered so I thought I'd make a new one seeing as the problems are progressing and building up.

Thanks for any help I'm provided with.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I bought an eMachines laptop (I know off brand) but it was on Black Friday for $395. In addition, I bought an external hard drive. When I plugged the external hard drive into my laptop; the harddrive downloaded a backup software called Memeo. So I eventually uninstalled the backup software (MEMEO) and my computer began to run EXTREMELY sluggish and slow. 1. I ran a Nortan scan believing that it would fix my computer situation. Ok, so i got a couple problems.

Im running vista, and i finaly got my WMP 11 to start working again (it wouldent open, no matter what i tried, even when it came to streaming videos online, it just wouldent open) i had to reset some regestrys.. whatever that means.

And so i go to install McAfee (it wasnt working, uninstalled itself, i couldnt run the install wizard off the disc or the vista patch off the website... they just would open to a blank window.) and it starts the installation, everything is kool, but it dosnt install the virus protection firewall or something else, says i have newer versions installed, and i need to uninstall them before i can install the ones off the patch. so i figure, mabey its just the patch, and i install off the disc, same thing. So i look around my control panel, says i dont have mcafee installed. (if you guys dont know, mcafee 07 wasnt compatible with vista for a while, so they had a seperate patch install file you could get online and make it run fine... so thats what im talking about when i say patch)

i dont know what to do, so i go on firefox to figure it out... and i get like 10 error messages saying "onLookupfailed 551" and so i close them, and then firefox "shuts down unexpectidly". im on crapp IE right now and it works fine...

any help?

I have a problem similar to pabarbara.I have a new computer that came with WinXP. I used AlohaBob's PC Relocator to transfer my files and setting from my old Win98 computer. Now when I browse a website that uses javascript, the formatting on the page is odd. Framing images are gone and text overlaps. Take a look at http://webpages.charter.net/joelearl/browserbad.gif to see what I mean. I tried installing the latest .NET update, hoping that this might overwrite a damaged file, but it did not help. I tried installing Firefox, but it has the same problem! Would Firefox and IE share javascript interpreter files? How can I fix this? I looked at How to Repair Internet Explorer.I ran "sfc /scannow", and it ran without incident. I edited the registry mark IE as "uninstalled", but I have not been able to get it reinstall - the only pages I can find at for updates to IE6, and they all say that I have a more recent version already installed.I have adware and virus protection from AOL; they pronounce the system clean.

Hello... A few things first: I'm 14 years old... I have never taken computer classes - I teach myself everything by using google ... But I have good experience of fixing problems I run into on my computer.... I can follow instructions you give me.

This is a weird issue that needs to get fixed. We have 2 accounts on our computer. We have Internet Explorer and Firefox installed. Internet explorer works perfectly on my account but on my moms account - when she tries to go to any website it says:
Internet Explorer cannot display the web page.

On my account when I open firefox I get this message before it opens:

Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features.

We need help! We do not wish to pay for Tech Support as I am good at fixing stuff that happens to our computer. If you could help me with this issue that would be great! Hi guys

This is my first post in this forum so hello!

Title was difficult to put succinctly so I will describe the problems I'm having.

I recently did a complete re-instal of XP Pro. I wiped all hard drives, installed a new one, physically cleaned inside of PC with air, resat all cards, upgraded to SP3 for first time, installed software slowly and carefully and installed Avira Antivirus, Agnitum Outpost Firewall (disabled Windows Firewall first) and also installed Spybot S&D.

So, I am having various problems that I've never had before:

1. Startup is quite slow - this could be to do with firewall and anti-virus loading up

2. If I have any USB external drives attached and on, the boot will hang

3. My system tray lacks several icons that should be there; volume control, anti-virus

4. Strange things with right-clicking causing system crash - e.g. I grabbed 3 photos off desktop, dropped them onto bin and right-clicked right away to empty bin - system hung and I had to hard crash out and restart PC

5. When I open my new internal second HD, it takes ages to display all the items (a lot of videos) slowly writing out all their dimensions down a list. If I try any right click actions whilst it's doing this, the system hangs

6. Browsers - I use Firefox, have the new v3 installed, I installed latest Java and Flash but have problems with some sites. One relies on Java for its online tutorial I need but all I get is a blank white screen with 'done' in th... Read more

I've been having problems on this version of windows 7 ultimate 64x I installed on a friend's computer. Everything works fine but firefox occassionally would open a new tab to random spamware sites and things of that nature but only when firefox was open. The other problem I'm having is that before this started, everything ran great, but now, the internet on this computer runs horribly slow, I've ran speed tests on speedtest.net and it's showing ping of over 300 and downloads and upload speed of under 1.00 mb/s. I run the same tests on my laptop and it's showing my internet is running fine at 10-15 mb/s.  The desktop runs fine otherwise.  I can't seem to shake this problem.  I thought I had fixed it last night when things ran great again, but this morning when i booted it up, the same problem with the internet happened.  I have no idea what's going on. I have ran malware bytes, rkill, and combo fix scans. I have the combofix log attatched to this. I look forward to any help / insite you guys can give me into this problem.

Hey everyone,
I'm having a brand new problem with my machine as of late. I'm freezing all of the time and and when I'm not freezing I am running way too slow. The other interesting issue is that my McAfee software keeps popping up telling me that 'live scanning has been turned off'(automatically) and asks if I want to turn it back on (which I always do). I have recently defragged my machine and run McAfee in Safe Mode to no avail. Spybot pulls up the same crap every time I run it so I don't think it's any help at all.

If there is any hope I know you good people will know what steps to take.

Thanks very much for your time!

Hi,

thanks for taking a look at this I hope you can help.

About a week ago my comp was running fine and I had no problems. I was using Win XP Pro on my Advent 6414 PIII 1.1 GHz laptop and was using AOL to connject to the internet. I had Anti Virus guard working there too and thought things were ok....

I upgraded the AV Guard but halfway through the setup i had to turn the computer off.

When I started it up on Monday, there was a progress bar at the bottom of the screen consisting of really chunky white bars.

The XP screen hung there for ages and when it did finally load, the programs running were prone to freezing. Specific symptoms were the Display Properties panel locking up and then saying there was a WIN32.DLL error (Not Responding) and that it had to shut down. The desktop picture froze and each subsequent time i tried to start the computer it took longer and longer to start. The programs hung for longer and froze earlier and it got to the point where I lost everything. I had to reformat the entire hard drive and re-install XP.

Surely this would have cured the problems despite wiping out my extensive and dare I say excellent music collection..aaaarrghhhh!!
Alas it did not. i have re-installed XP only to find similar re-occurrences of the same problems...programs slow to load, Explorer locks up (the start menu is the main one) and now the pictures that I loaded for my desktop are being halved each time i start up.

I learned my lesson and now have Nor... Read more

A:XP Problems: Slow to load, DLL broken, freezes, modem problems the list goes on..

How much do you know about installing XP?
And, what options did you select during the process?

(No, it's not a simple, linear, process.)
First of all, if you wipe the drive you should do it properly. That is, you get a copy of the Disk Manager software from your hard drive's manufactuer and you use THAT to wipe the Hard Drive from a boot disk. Low-level format the drive, which means you write zeros to the entire drive including the boot sector. That gives you a truely blank drive.

Then when you do the XP install, windows thinks the drive is "Virgin" and does a complete partition and format. No information is retained.

If you wanted to be faste (but lazy) about it, you could just delet the partitions on the drive and then make new partitions, and then install Windows, but let's be sure we've done everytyhing we can to start with a blank slate, shall we?

But you're not done yet: You need to get the device drivers from your PC mfg's website. Otherwise, all the drivers that XP doesn't have aren't there, and your hardware is in "Default" mode (if at all).

NOTE: Before you start to do any of this, check with your OEM to see if they have any special "Non-DOS" partitions on your model of laptop. If they do, all this is for naught: You'll have to get them to put those partitions back on your machine before you begin re-installing.

Compaq did this a few years back to a number of their models, and it was a huge headache to ITs everywhere... Read more

Hi,
This is my first post here, so I hope that I follow all of the rules. And thanks in advance for any help. My computer has been running slow for a while, and I think one of my kids might have gone to a website that allowed some malware in. My OS is Windows XP SP3. I have noticed a few things, 1. Had a problem with Adobe acrobat reader, it wouldn't update for some reason, and couldn't open PDF files for a while, after uninstalling and reinstalling several times, I think it is now working. Also noticed more recently when working in MS Word 03 every once in a while it won't let me save files. Now I am noticing that when I have Internet Explorer open for a while, IE tries to pop open a new window, to which the IP address is blocked by K9 web protection 91.212.226.6 is the IP. After googling this IP address, I found a few posts leading me to think there might be a trojan kicking around on my pc. I have run MBAM and Hijackthis in an attempt to find the culprit, but MBAM comes up clean, and I can't find it on Hijackthis. Any help woould be appreciated.
Thanks!

Running on Windows XP
Avast Anti-virus Home version

What I have tried

have scanned multiple times with Avast, Malware Bytes, and AOL computer check up. Also downloaded and used ccleaner, ATF cleaner, and SUPER AntiSpyware which did a 16 hour scan. They did find some ad ware etc and got rid of it - but the problem persists.

I also reset my preferences and did other maintanence that I know how to do (defragging, disk clean, rebooting etc)

I tried installing updates and doing a system restore -------System Restore failed, installation of MS security update (latest one) failed several times.

I cant figure out what could get in here that all these programs wont detect. I really thought Avast was doing a good job.

Summary of the problems

the biggest or most annoying problem is that using IE - surfing and mail takes Foreeeeeever. typing is interrupted, getting a not responding freeze very often - its temporary but much longer freeze or hold up than normal.

and...
Links are misdirected. mostly from searches, but seemed to be half or more of the time I clicked a link. I could see in the tab several website titles flashing through and then it would land on one - none of them were the ones I wanted or clicked.

other problems

Java problems - I noticed when tried to go to pogo to play games - I kept getting java not working etc..yet the test your java process revealed that I had the latest version and updates which I knew of course but I muddled through - I did all the steps ... Read more

Hi

I hope I'm placing this in the right section, if not, then could someone tell me where to put it and I'll post it again.

I've got a Samsung RV510 laptop with Windows 7 HP 64 bit.

About 2 weeks ago, I was watching a Youtube video, had Spotify and Facebook open too, and my computer suddenly went all BSOD on me.

I turned it off and on again. It came up with a message like 'A problem has occurred whilst loading up your computer, what would you like to do?' I chose 'launch startup repair', which takes a couple seconds, then I choose the other option of 'start Windows normally'. I could get onto Safe Mode. Sometimes it would say 'Operating System not found.'

The computer will then load normally and I can be on it fine.

However, I then started to get Norton Confidential and Shockwave Flash crashes in Google Chrome. I disabled Norton Confidential and thus didn't get that error anymore. Shockwave Flash however did still occur as disabling it means I can't watch Youtube videos and do some other stuff. Sometimes my screen would go blank, and it looks like Chrome refreshed itself due to some problem.

I then used Norton Power Eraser (I have Norton Internet Security 2011 otherwise, and I did many live updates and scans to see if there was anything there, but nothing) to see if there were any problems. It came up with one file that was a possible threat which was msvcrt.dll so I did as it recommended and deleted it. I restarted the computer and now I can't it won't go past the Win... Read more

A:Can't start up my computer. (Driver problems, BSOD, other problems)

First rule out infection. Try booting into Safe Mode with Networking to run a full scan with Malwarebytes.

If this fails download, burn to CD or write to flash stick Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper, boot it to run a full scan.

Boot into System Recovery Options using the WIn7 DVD Repair console (option two) and run Startup Repair repeatedly from the list.

If this fails, open a Command Prompt to SFC -SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot.
If it finds System files to repair it may need to be run several times.

If probs persist, next run System Restore from the Recovery Tools list.

If these all fail, boot into free Partition Wizard bootable CD. Make sure Win7 or it's 100mb Boot partition (preferred) are marked Active. Then click on HD to highlight it, from Disk tab select Rebuild MBR, Apply, reboot. If Win7 doesn't start, try same again with Active flag moved to Win7 partition itself. Hi This is my first time posting, and I have a lot of things causing problems with my computer, but to start off, here are my specs.

Windows 10 Pro
Intel Core i7-4770s CPU @ 3.10GHz
8 Gb Ram Corsaire Vengence 4x2
64 Bit
AMD Radeon HD 7700 GDDR5 1Gb (two of them w/ crossfire)
2 Tb 7200 Rpm Seagate HDD
z87-g45 Gaming Motherboard
Case: r5 Gaming Full size case
Power Supply: Corsair AX860
Fans: Rosewill Hyper Silence CPU fan, 2 stock front fans, 1 stock in back

So, to start off, I built this computer myself 2 years ago, and it has been running steadily without too many problems along the way, but earlier last year it began to have some much bigger problems.

Issue 1. Monitor Issues
I say this is a monitor issue, but i really doubt it has anything to do with the monitors them selves. What is happening every once in a while (about 3 times a week) the screens of my monitors will cut to black (it doesn't matter what I'm doing) and stay black for a few seconds before revealing the task bar at the bottom of the screen, and then the rest of my desktop slowly reveals itself. I've tried updating my video card drivers, but that hasn't helped.

Issue 2. Keyboard and Mouse Become unresponsive (System isn't frozen however)
Sometimes if I leave my pc idling in the lock screen, the keyboard will stop working, and when I come back, I can't log in. I can tell my computer is not frozen because the slideshow in the lock screen keeps moving and I can move my mouse (bu... Read more

Two weeks ago I began having problems with my DSL connection. It would disconnect for short periods of time. Then that became more frequent and for longer periods of time, to the point where it is now almost never working. Called Verizon and they were useless, as usual. Someone is suppose to come out tomorrow.
I was trying to just use my computer and all of sudden it started freezing. The task manager revealed that my CPU usage was at %100. The major culprit was McAfee. I have the spam killerdisabled at all times, and yet it was this that was hogging the CPU. I decided to disable all of McAfee (I have the suite). Once in a while the spamkiller still hogs the CPU, but for the most part it behaves now. I don't understand why since I have it permanently disabled.
I also noticed that my DSL connection seems to be better since I disabled all of McAfee, including my Firewall. It's not perfect, but better. Could there be any connection. Was my firewall perhaps interferring? Or is Verizon truly the one to blame, as they usually are. By the way, when I finally went into my router (a tech friend of mine set me up with a bridge...I don't undertstand it, but it cured the insane problems I was having before with my DSL connection and Verizon...until two weeks ago...I think the way he explained it, I use the modem/router Verizon provided, a Westell, just as a modem, and the Linksys router I bought as the wireless router), and tried to manually connect, several times a box op... A:problems with McAfee, internet connection and questioning if computer is infected

Your log is clean. I don't think you are infected and these problems you describe are probably being caused by Mcafee. I never have liked Mcafee and you'll find that most techs don't. If I were you, I'd get rid of it completely and get another antivirus and firewall. That is totally up to you.

My recommendation for antivirus would be Nod32:

You can get the free version of Zone Alarm:

Hello amdamd and welcome to TSF,

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad since you will not have any of browsers open while you are fixing this. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. Again, you should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Before we begin, let's move HiJackThis to it's own folder; like c:\HJT. When we're done 'cleaning' off your system, we're going to 'flush' the temporary folders which, with HiJackThis in it's current location, we'll lose both the program and the b... Read more

Essentially, at one point I did have the Vundo Trojan. After trying to find different fixers, i found one (VundoFix) that did work.

I no longer get the pop-ups associated with it, but my internet is still just as slow as before. I am not sure whether or not it is just the remainants of the virus or my firefox is stupid. My firefox freezes and stops loading sites like facebook, and certain other websites only half load. They start loading, and some images or other parts just don't load. Firefox says i is still trying to load it, but it just stops and won;t load.

Another problem is that youtube, when i try to watch a video, shows the LOADING screen for at least 5 minutes before showing any video. This only started after the virus.

I will post the hijackthis log in a later post (like after this one). (IF needed)

Please, does someone know what is happening or has this happened to you?

I have looked at all the firefox help forums where this has happened to other people, but it also sortof happens to be in IE7 too....(grr)...so... any help is appreciated.

My internet explorer was not connecting to the internet even though i have great internet connection and no firewall was blocking it at the time. Even when it did connect it ran extremely slow. Mozilla Firefox ran much better than Internet Explorer, but still was running very very slowly. I thought I had a virus or some spyware so i ran norton antivirus, as well as pc tools spyware doctor and it detected that i had some trojan viruses so i deleted them. Then i ran Ad Aware and Spybot and they detected that I had some malware so i also deleted that. Also, everytime I run Ad Aware it detects some tracking cookie file even though i delete it every single time. And sometimes there is a window that opens in Firefox about scanning my computer for malware and i have to exit the browser. Any help?

I believe i have a virus of some sort but it won't delete. Firefox is the only thing that goes slowly on my computer. Everything else runs fine. Any ideas why this is so and how i can stop this. When i open sites like google and youtube the pages load okay, but when i try to open pages like myspace and facebook it takes 10 plus minutes.

It's happened to me only twice. My screen going black. Once when I was using it and I had to restart. I have read that, it seems to be a issue for some.

It did not happen for a few more months. But I was away from my computer. But this time I only had to put my on button and it came on as if the computer was in sleep mode but my computer is not set to sleep.

Save with the screen saver the other day. It came on while I was away. This time I only had to move my house to get things going.

But I noticed storage usage in my computer decreased after that. It seems to go up and down but I am not as worried as my screen going off when I do not have my screensaver or sleep activated.

Has anyone else had any issues?

I do not know if this is a windows ten problem or a computer problem. Which I am looking into bringing my computer in. But I am just trying to figure things out myself.

Using XP, with Firefox as a browser (though my dialup provider default had IE opening up every time I connected, until I remembered to deactivate the darn thing. That's probably why I'm having problems...).

The problem is constant "not responding" messages from various programs if IE is running in the background; system also very, very slow running and has an annoying spyware alert from AdAware. The last time I used IE, the browser homepage was "hijacked", and I'm not sure if this happened again, as the computer was clean until IE began to initiate with the new ISP connecting.

I ran Hijack, after scanning with Adaware and Spybot. Any help greatly appreciated!

I just wanted to say, before I get flamed, that I have done everything I could to try to fix my slow running computer. I have cleaned out my hard drive, fragmented it multiple times, updated my drivers, cleaned my registries, uninstalled various programs and junk I don't use anymore, and have ran Anti-Mal ware, Spy bot S&D, Threatfire's root kit scanner, and CCleaner. I also have almost no application running when I start up. And have tweaked my ram using Cacheman.

Recently my computer has been running so slow to the point where it will get random lag spikes, it will take multiple clicks to start up Mozilla (which leads to multiple browers I have to close), etc. etc. I was wondering if I would be able to post a Hijack this log, so that someone might be able to tell me if there is a badrootkit running on my system. Or perhaps someone might know of a program that allows me to figure out if a stick of ram has crashed, for I fear that also might be a problem. Any programs I use atm such as cacheman seem to read my ram, but I don't think it means it is functioning properly.

I have Erunt, Rootkit Revealer, Smitfraud, and all sorts of other programs at my disposal (that I dare not use without proper direction), so whatever information or logs somebody might need to help me out, just tell me what to do and it will be posted in a jiffy.

Thanks for the help!

elise025 has helped me in the past - hopefully she has time to help me with this one:
Problems:

1) Computer RAM all being used rapidly. About 33-50% of RAM in use as soon as I turn on.
I have more internet bandwidth than I'm used to, don't know if much of that problem is because I'm running more programs at one time than I could previously.
But even if I only run a few simple windows in a browser, it seems that the browser's use of memory keeps going up way beyond where I used to see it.

2) I'm getting AppHang B1 Errors all the time with IE, and have to close programs/browsers and restart them, or sometimes have to reboot.

3) Was getting BEX errors all the time, but stopped using Chrome browser and the BEX errors stopped.

4) All sort of IE 7.0 problems.

a) Frequent small box with red "X", stating that "Internet Explorer cannot open website ABC and will close" and when I click "OK", I lose that page.
Used to happen rarely, now happening frequently.
Not experiencing that with Firefox.

IE turning black, and I can't close it.(Could be when my RAM is in the red zone on the Windows Sidebar CPU Meter Gadget).

I'm not super very technical, so I'm not sure where to begin.  In the recent patch rolled out Tuesday, December 10, 2013, something changed and I can not longer play.  Curse is also fouled up.  The game allows me to log in, but the UI never completely loads and freezes up.  The only way to get out is to turn the machine off - can't even Control, Alt, Delete.  I have an olderT43, running Windows XP.  Of the 51 G, I have 7.6 G available.  I'm hoping you (all) don't tell me I need a new computer, cause it is way down on the priority list (or I'd have already gotten one).  Sigh.Wow has updated it's information and has given many of us running Windows XP a way to fix whatever happened with the latest patch.  I have another questions.  According to my ISP, I should be getting a speed of approximately 16 mbps.  However, when I download stuff from blizzard, it usually runs around 3.6 mbps.  Is that normal or could I have a problem elsewhere? After I did the "fix" Blizzard suggest, I still can't get the game to load enough so I can't "update" my UI.  So I'm still stuck.  Sigh.  Any help? Mod Edit:  Merged posts, moved from Computer Gaming to XP - Hamluis.

A:Slow Computer & Other Problems

Trying to see if I can improve the speed of my laptop (T43) and I tried to run Autoruns to see what was tied to the start up.  When I ran the program, a "dos" type window opened, I saw "code" and then the window promptly closed.  So I tried it again and I got the dreaded blue screen with the following info:

STOP:  c000021a {Fatal System error}
The windows SubSystem system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of Ox
c0000005 (0x7c9106c3 0x0052ec24).
The system has been shut down.

I took a photo of the screen.  I thing it is a "5" at the end of c000000* in the 3rd line.

What do I do now, Oh Wise Ones?

Thanks,

Download OTL.exe to your desktop.
Double-Click on OTL to run it.
When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Standard Output.
Under the Standard Registry box change it to All.
Under Custom scan's and fixes section paste in the below in bold

netsvcs
%SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.*
%systemroot%\*. /mp /s
CREATERESTOREPOINT
%systemroot%\system32\*.dll /lockedfiles
%systemroot%\Tasks\*.job /lockedfiles
%systemroot%\System32\config\*.sav
%systemroot%\system32\drivers\*.sys /90
Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan won't take long.
When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.txt and Extras.txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.

I believe I have a 140gb computer and it seems to be running slow from time to time. I also have this probelm that whenever I start my computer I'm unable to click on any icons on my screen and I must repeatily hit the ctrl+alt+del buttons numerous times until for some strange reason I'm allowed to start clicking on my icons and stuff. Also I just ran an ad-aware scan and it found like 4 malwares so I figured I would run another hijachthis scan and see if you can see any problems. Also maybe someone knows how to fix that problem I'm having when starting my computer! Anyways any help would be greatful!!!

Get hold of Malwarebyte and Lavasoft's Ad-aware. Run them individually.

Make sure you are using an up to date and sensible ant-virus package.

At this stage it just sounds like your computer needs a little clear out of trackers and stuff.

I have a few problems with my laptop that don?t happen all the time. I believe they are connected as when they happen they all occur together. The symptoms are:

-Slow start-up
-Slow keyboard (it takes a couple of seconds for a letter to appear on screen when I press a key)
-When shutting down 2 error messages appear (End Program-EXPLORER.EXE and End Program-Connections Tray)
-In Task Manager, CPU Usage is always between 90 and 100%, most of which is kernel time

What I have done so far (with no success):

-Defragment hard drive
-Scan with Ad-Aware 2008 (free version)
-Scan with SpyBot

The laptop is an Acer 1640 running Windows XP Service Pack 3. Also, the computer works fine in safe-mode. As I am not very computer literate, I hope somebody can help with simple step by step instructions. Thanks.

Hi minzzerrzz,

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad since you will not have any of browsers open while you are fixing this..

Download and install CleanUp http://cleanup.stevengould.org/

Hello!

I have this problems for quite some time now. Now I realized that this same problem also has my coworker. Because I dont know how to solve this, I post here. This is problem description that occurs on both computers:

After running Firefox for a while, computer suddenly becomes totally unresponsive. Sometimes this is immediately after bootup, sometimes later. Closing Firefox via Task Manager does not help. Internet does not work anmyore with other browsers (IE), email also does not work. Only solution is to reboot computer. When rebooting, computer pops up some End Now messages, however then pops up this message for XPCom: Event Receiver. When you click End Now button, computer suddenly becomes responsive and reboots with normal speed. So this is the cause of problems. How can I solve this?

Thank you!

First off, thank you in advance. This machine will, I am sure, be a challenge. It is an old Emachine T-1600. It is running XP SP3, windows firewall, and currently no antivirus.
It had had one, but at some point started to bog down using 100% CPU. I tried to remedy this by uninstalling and trying various antivirus programs to find one that was better on recources than MSE which is my current preferred AV solution. I figure that they if anyone, should be able to make a program run in their operating system. Now when I try to reinstall MSE, it says I have other AV programs on my computer. I am thinking that there may be some type of conflict here causing the slow down, even though they were all uninstalled before I installed the next one. The biggest problem is that no matter what task I try to do, I end up getting 100% CPU usage and things slow to a crawl. I installed process lasso to try and help this along but all it does is keep the computer from locking up as opposed to speeding things up.
I have run many different virus scans, such as SAS, MBAM, Trend Micro Housecall etc. I am currently running Hitman Pro, and so far see that there might be several positives that are in some portable downloaded diagnostic programs I have, but none currently active in the running processes list.
And before this severe slowdown occured, the computer was hard to shut down. It would take a very long time, (5-10 minutes) and sometimes would display an error message about one program or an... Read more
