Thinpad Yoga White screen by startup

Q: Thinpad Yoga White screen by startup

Hello, My Thinkpad Yoga (model year 2014-2015) gives sometimes a white screen by startup, or after a softclose (for example when turn over from laptop to tablet mode). When I open and close my screen after a couple of times the screen is ok and I can work with it. I called Lenovo support because I think it is something with the connector from the screen to the motherboard. The computer was 2 months out of warranty so they say that I could send it to support for a check, what will cost me a lot of money for only analyse the issue. So I asked for another solution. They asked me to reinstal Windows and al the drivers, because they think that it is a software issue. Because there is a lot of software on my computer, and I need him every day for my work, I didn't have time to do this directly (first make a backup and then reinstall al the software). So I bought a new Lenovo thinkpad Yoga 260, and installed al my software. Now my "old" Yoga, whit the white screen issue, is ready for reinstall the software. Today I reinstalled Windows 10, but the issue is still there "sometimes white screen". So I think again it is not a software issue but a issue whit the connector from the screen to the motherboard. My question is if someone has experience whit this issue, or maybe the same issue?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I doubt there are any fixes and these are mostly observations, but here goes: 1. The other day, I had screen flashes for a couple hours in the middle of the day. I was battery for extended time, but not doing anything video intensive - taking notes with onenote in laptop mode. The screen would flash with random frequency, and made it almost unusuble, but then would stop for a few minutes and start again. It finally stopped, but i never found a cause. I did disable the WIndows error reporting, made sure i had the latest driver (mine is slightly newer then what lenovo system wants to download) -  2. Video resolution when used with external monitor - I have an external monitor above the laptop - leaving the laptop at recommended 2560 x 1440 and size at 200% (recommended) makes the laptop 2x as big as the monitor above it in the extended desktop layout - this causes issues moving the mouse between the 2 as the monitor is 2x the size of the lptop. (Driver 21.20.16.4678) 3. Dragging windows from this 200% display to  my external monitor causes some 200% sized artifacts until the entirewindow is moved. 4. I use synergy to share mouse and keyboard between my Macbook and this - the mouse hits an artificial wall near the laptop right side - i believe it has to do with the display scaling 5. Reducing the lapop to 1280 x 720 at 100% solves all the above issues, but then text is not crisp in Outlook app. Most other apps look fine, as does windows it... Read more

I bought this last year and within weeks it started going white. If I twist the screen or hold it with some pressure it is ok to use.Now the big problem! I bought it on a return visit to the UK before returning to Thailand and guess what... About the only place in the world that Lenovo will not give international warranty on this model is Thailand.I took it to their repair office in Bangkok (4 hr round trip) and they looked at it and basically said not our problem even though i was willing to pay for repair.I have taken it to a local repair shop who are very good but they can't get it right. They have said if someone can point them in a specific direction they'll try again. Can anyone help?Getting to the point of buying something else.

Hi all, I purchased by Lenovo Yoga 710 a few months ago and there were a few times the screen turned white when I changed from laptop to tablet mode, but now it happens randomly while I use the laptop. The only way to get it to go away is adjust my screen back and forth until I see a normal screen again. Any ideas on how to fix? Still under warranty, so if not something I can fix, it should be covered under that right? (I haven't dropped it or spilled anything on it.) Thanks!

Hello everyone, I received my P40 Yoga only two or three months ago, and I'm highly concerned about one problem I have. There's an extreme count of small white dots (d?2mm) all over the screen. They are significantly brighter that the rest of the screen, although colors of pixels behind are untouched. Also, when I'm touching/pressing near them nothing happens, although they disappear when dark/black images are covering them. Brightness of the dots seems to be constant relative to the brightness of the screen. That means if I turn screen brightness down, they become less bright too.First spots have emerged just after a week of use, but I ignored them. They were (and still are) in the left bottom part of the screen. Now practically most of the screen is covered with dots. Though, I think, there's a bit more dots on the bottom of the screen than there's on top of the screen. Also, it's very unpleasant to see more 'constellations' on a relatively expensive laptop, than I can see on the sky. At the moment, I can't contact my local service center due to certain circumstances. But do you think it is covered by warranty? Or if it isn't, can you please tell me, how can I find the model number of the 1440p IPS screen? Just as an example, there is a photo of a small area of the screen that has the problem attached to this post.

Hi there,  My Lenovo Yoga 710 IKB 15'' Laptop has had many problems. The fan was making noise and I started a topic here that was ridiculously marked solved when it wasn't, and now I have this new problem. For some reason, my screen has been blinking white (see attached pictures). Sometimes the white screen is blinking, sometimes it stays for a few seconds and other times it's not there at all but is clearly still an issue. I have already updated both the Intel and NVIDIA display drivers and when I run a scan I'm told there are no updates available. When I run a game or anything that requires the computer to switch to using the NVIDIA card, there is also a buzzing sound coming from the side of the computer, although this is not present when the Intel card is being used (the white screen appears no matter what I'm doing or which graphics card is being used).  I like this laptop but these are really too many problems. I bought this as a replacement for another laptop as I'm a student who really urgently needs to use a computer. Is lenovo going to fix this??

A:Lenovo Yoga 710 Screen turns white

I didn't see or respond to your first thread, but the temperatures (42C idle and 65C gaming) see normal.  85C or 90C is a high temperature under load but not temperatures in the 60's.  (Most CPUs, desktop or laptop, have thermal shutdown when a CPU hits about 105C.)  The thread said to contact support and gave you a support document to reference for fan noise.  Your fans would be running when your temperatures are in the 60's, but not at high speed.  Did you do that?  I didn't mark it solved, but if I read the questions and the response, I would have thought the issue was solved, although someone should have said that 65 was OK.  If you had posted back and support couldn't find the support document, that would have meant that it wasn't solved.

Regarding the white screen,  you are going to need to contact support for warranty repair.

Hi there,  i was working on the computer yesterday when all of a sudden my screen turned black and white, and hasn't gone color except when it's locked. I can't find anything in the control panel to fix it, and my drivers are up to date. The one solution I saw offered for a similar issue was to put windows+ctrl+c, but that doesn't do anything for my screen. I've restarted it too, of course.  Help! Hi, I 'm having problem with my new laptop screen display. There is an 'external frame', 2cm  width from the screen edge, all around. In the external rectangular form, the white color seems yellow.  At contrary the center one has perfect white. As you can see here : Note: The problem is permanent. It also appears in the bios and in the display checking control. My laptop costed me almost $3k, I'm really disappointed. Is anyone experiencing the same problem ?

I have a white light in the shape of a circle that is staying on. It appears to be behind the screen but stays on like a stuck pixel. It is about 2 or 3mm in diameter. The brightness of the dot goes up and down with the screen brightness but is always brighter than the screen. It's visible on light backgrounds more than dark. It's not easy to see in a photo but I attached one. The dot is beneath the 'r' in 'brightness.' Any ideas how to fix this? My laptop just went out of warranty in April.

Hello!
My apologies if this is an old topic. I browsed a few likely-looking threads but did not immediately see what I was looking for.
I have a Dell Inspiron PC which came with the Windows 7 operating system. If more details about my computer are necessary, a bit of direction as to where to find those would be appreciated. I'm good at following directions but I'm by no means a computer wizard.
When I start the computer it starts normally, no weird messages during startup. The logon screen shows up as normal, and I key in my password and tap enter. I see the word "Welcome" as usual, but it seems to be "thinking" much longer than normal before logging me on all the way. Instead of my normal background I see a completely white screen without any icons or taskbar. I can see my cursor though. After a moment or two, my regular background appears and all seems to be normal. I ran my virus scan (Webroot), and that came up with no results. Not sure what to do next. Any advice on how to make the startup process go back to normal would be greatly appreciated. If there are is any more information I can/should include, please let me know! Thank you!

Dear support,

On startup, all I get is a blank white screen. I can't see anything.

But, I can plug in a monitor and do everything else just fine.

I tried twiddling the drivers, but maybe I did it wrong or overlooked the right one(s). I tried a system restore, but that threw an error on restart.

I even dove in with my screwdriver to make sure no plugs got knocked loose (don't worry, warranties were long voided).

I got this computer from the university over 4 years ago, so they won't service it anymore unless I pay more money than I can afford.

Please help.

thanks~

Hi everyone,
I've searched through the forums for an answer to this one but can't seem to sort it out by myself, so any help at all would be greatly appreciated! Basically this white screen (sometimes with blue lines running down sometimes without) has been appearing on startup. At first it just appeared in place of the windows logo before log in, but now it's appearing earlier on and the only way to bypass it is to hit the power button and hope it loads up properly. I've tried disabling/uninstalling the display driver and this has either (a) caused the laptop to crash to the white screen
or (b) nothing, just back to white screen appearing at intervals.

I've run Avast and Spybot as well as RegistryFix but haven't got a clue what to do now!
Thanks for any help,
Nicola.

When powering up the display screen remains blank (white screen) and PC does not boot. After a couple more power on/off cycles, PC boots normally and operation appears normal. After observing this behavior on 29 January I performed a full scan using McAfee VirusPlus. McAfee reported no problems except "1 boot record."

The above described behavior was consistent over several days following several power on/off cycles and virus scans. I reported the problem to the Tech Support Forum Malware/AV group and worked with Ried who cleared my machine of malware. Ried suggested posting in the XP section for troubleshooting guidance. After i press no do not continue executing this script the rectangular screen stays in place and wont go anywhere, when i try to drag the screen across all i get is the Logitech logo.

I tried system recovery, antivirus scan, anti malware scan, and addware scan.

Unfortunately no result. Im out of ideas and i was hoping you guys would have some.

Id like to add a screenshot of this problem, unfortunately the problem is not shown in a screenshot

After startup, my monitor just turn white with this sentence on it "please wait while the connection is being established".
I ran malwarebyte antimalware(mbam) in safe mode with command prompt and the screen turn to normal again. But i think the malware is still in my laptop since i cannot turn on my firewall.

I hope anyone can help me with this.

I already ran DDS and GMER for anyone to take a look of my problem

Thanks in advance.

A little history on the system:
I bought the system about 18 months ago for the purposes of video editing and gaming. It served me well for around 11 months, when I started getting random crashes on Startup. After a lot of troubleshooting and replacing the PSU and RAM, it seemed that the cause was in fact the NVidia graphics driver - when NVidia released a new version of the driver the system suddenly functioned correctly again for around 6 months.

Recently I had a problem with the sound cutting in and out, and was getting error reports that stated "one or more audio service failed to start". Then once again the system refused to startup, crashing after the Windows logo. After two attempts at restoring from disc the system suddenly worked fine again for around a month.

Yesterday I was running Skyrim when suddenly the screen went completely brown and the system reset itself. It then refused to startup in Normal mode at all. Considering the wealth of problems I'd had with the system, I decided the best option would be to do a complete clean reinstall of Windows 7.

After reinstalling Windows I reinst... Read more

Hello,

I believe my PC infected with the startup login virus. The computer boots very slow with a white screen. I already scanned with 360 total security and Malwarebytes Anti Malware. However, there is no threats after I quarantined the fake software and refresh the Firefox. Then, the white screen slowly appear in my computer when I start login. It appears a few seconds before I can see the desktop icons. I hope it was not the virus appears in the background when I run the startup because there is no threats when I scan with Malwarebytes Anti Malware.
