I need help. local computers with AVG firewall

Q: I need help. local computers with AVG firewall

I have AVG Internet security version 7.5, it comes with a firewall.
It's installed on both my PC's, but I messed up.
I am no longer able to see into local networks as before.

How do I configure AVG firewall so both computers see each other when they are on?
I did check out the AVG support section but that only confused me.
Though I am still looking?

Thanks allot

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: I need help. local computers with AVG firewall

AVG Control Center->AVG Firewall->Configure->System tab->"Microsoft file sharing and printing"

This applicationīs default setting is "Block" (for security reasons). If your local network is not accessible or you cannot print on network printers, please re-configure this option to "Allow" (choose "Microsoft file sharing and printing"->click on "Edit rule" button->click on "Edit rule" button)

Tried this?

Good luck!

I am have a network with 4 computers on it. Only 2 will be sharing files. All machines are able to access the Internet through a linksys router and are doing so w/o problems atm. However, the computers i am trying to setup sharing between are unable connect. Both computers are on the same Domain and are using Windows XP Profession. For the sake of explanation i'll use the names computer a and computer b.

A can see B in My Network Places but cannot access.
When pinging B, a request is timed out.

B cannot see A in My Network Places and likewise cannot access A.
When pinging A, a request is timed out.

When pinging or an external ip address, the request is completed with a reply.

I have enable NetBIOS on both machines and disable simple file sharing.

I believe that the problem exists in computer B. Thanks for your help. Any advice is appreciated.

A:Unable to see Local Computers

Have you ensure your Firewall is off on Machine B? Sounds like it may be enabled. Also does Machine B have any extra apps loaded that may be running some type of firwall software besides the SP2 one?

I have a small network of four desktops and two laptops. One of my laptops, an IBM Think pad X40 cannot access the workgroup. It cannot even see itself, I time out and get an error if I try to view the workgroup.

"Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available."

All the other PCs function fine. This has really got my stumped and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Ive tried everything I can think of short of reformatting. I've reinstalled in hardware drivers, I've reinstalled all the client-service-protocol stuff in network connections, I've enabled and disabled firewalls, set it as the DMZ host on the router. Ive used both wired and wireless connections. I've gone through the wireless setup wizard probably 15 times now. I am totally baffled as to what is causing this.

A:Cannot see other computers on local network.

Forgot to mention: Other computers can see the name of the IBM Laptop on the network but cannot access it with a network path not found error. And the Internet works fine.

I have simple network setup. 2 xp computers, 2 linux computers. All can access the internet. All can ping each other, connected to 4 port linksy wired and wireless router. Firewall on router turned off. Cannot ping on any computer to any address beyond router. If I ping google.com it comes back with:

So I believe DNS should be o.k.

The above is true on all computers, so problem must be in the router, right?

You're in the best position to answer this! Please connect a computer directly to the modem (remember to power cycle it when switching) and try the ping.

I had local file sharing when my home network consisted of XP and Win 7 computers. I just right clicked on folders I wanted to share in Windows Explorer and designated them as shared. Simple and worked well. I used no sign-ins of users, and the user defaulted to Administrator. Now I have upgraded two computers to Windows 10 (one wired ethernet and one laptop wired and wireless) and added one new Windows 10 laptop that is wireless only. Windows 10 has created a default user now with a sign-in but no password. I need to move gigabites of data from computer to computer and need to read, write, and delete files from other computers on my local network.

My first attempt was to create a Homegroup and then join it with the other two computers. It essentially works, but the performance on transferring files on the wireless computer is terribly slow - unusable. It also seems to kill my internet speed. I now have all computers withdrawn from the Homegroup, although it seems to have kept the Homegroup, and keeps prompting me to join it. Can't find any way to kill it.

My second attempt was to use the File Sharing. I have two issues with that. First it seems the intent is to allow anyone on the internet to share the file, and that is the last thing I want it to do. It won't seem to let me name other users on the home network and add them. And even when I include Everyone as a share, I can't access the folders with other computers. On one I get an error message saying I have no permi... Read more

A:How to share files only on local home computers

In my opinion, Homegroup sucks, get rid of it. I've always setup a Workgroup consisting of the same username/password on each computer. It's set-up the same on W10 as on previous OS's.
On my girlfriends computer I just set up a shared folder on her computer so that any files, etc. that we want to share are put in that folder with each of us having access to it.
Network and Sharing is where you should start.

One of our servers recently lost its outbout network connectivity. It can ping and communiate with any computer on our LAN, but it can't communicate with anything outside our network. It has a statically asigned IP address, and can ping the default gateway. We haven't changed any settings on the firewall or gateway....any thoughts? I'm sure this will require a bunch of followup information so ask away.

A:Specific server can only acces local computers

Interesting update!! Our firewall is set to one-to-one nat a real IP address to the servers internal IP address. If I turn one-to-one nat OFF, the server is able to ping out. It obviously can't receive connections, but it can ping out.....

Seems like a DNS or record issue or something, but I did a few DNS lookup things and they all seem to check out. Thoughts?

One of the computers connects absolutely fine to the internet, sharing files etc. but the other wireless one only has 'Local Access' and no Internet access. I have tried absolutely everything relating to switching everything off for 2 minutes and then trying again with no avail. SOMEBODY HELP ME PLEASE! I NEED THE INTERNET ON THIS COMPUTER!

A:Vista, local access only, but works on other computers...?

If your network is secured, disable encryption on the router and try to connect that way. If successful you should then be able to re-enable encryption and reconnect.

If still a problem please show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I'm stuck on something that I just do not understand. I cannot get my external hard drives to give me write permissions over my local network in some directions.

I recently replaced our hard drives with SSDs and with the reinstall, I had some difficulty getting the permissions on my external hard drives working correctly. I did several Google searches and read a procedure that I needed to go through adding a user called "Everyone" to each of my drives that I wanted to access and share. I did this and gave "Everyone" full read/write permissions and also went into advanced options (or wherever it is) and chose the checkbox to give all child files and folders these same permissions. It took ages but eventually it all seemed OK. I had one folder which could not be corrected this way and ended up having go change each file individually. Total pain. Anyway, I thought I was all set but if I try to move a file from Machine A to Machine B (the drives are attached to B), I get an error that I don't have permission to do this. No overrides or Admin permissions are an option and when I check the specifics it *is* correctly shared with not only Everyone but this machine as well (so it attempted to fix the permissions itself at some point). However, if I go to Machine B and grab the files from Machine A over the network, I can drag them to the correct location without problem.

I want to understand why this is happening and what I need to do to fix it. Clearly... Read more

A:firewall locks out other computers

Buy a router.
My exp. with software "firewalls" have shown that these programs are highly unstable and unpredictable. Why many users exp. absolutely no problem, i get calls everyday related to corrupt "firewall" installations.
I am using "" because in reality, these programs are not firewalls, they are nothing more than software programs designed to protect your computer from internet intrusion. The nature of these programs is to be "overly protective" I suggest abandoning these programs and investing $50-100 in a home router. A router is a true 'firewall'. Plus, its a lot harder to crack a piece of hardware than a piece of software.
Hope this helps

I have two computers linked and networked via a switch. Both computers have Norton 360. I can view the workgroup computers when the Norton firewall is disabled. And I have the Windows firewall enabled. My question is: Is just the Windows firewall enough for the computers? One computer is connected to the internet - the other is not. If I turn on the Norton firewall, I can't view my workgroup computers.

A:Workgroup computers and Firewall

You should be able to setup Norton to permit the individual IPs of each computer on another, and very likely, permit incoming traffic from remote ports 137, 138 and 139 and 445 for TCP and UDP protocols from trusted computers on your network for SYSTEM. Likewise, permit the same local ports outbound to trusted computers on your network. Do the same for port 135 for SVCHOST.exe.

But I think Norton has a concept of a trusted network (or similar description) which would make it simpler than what I wrote above.

I don't use Norton, so can't help more. Do they say anything about setting up for Microsoft file and printer sharing in the Help file?

Windows firewall is not sufficient. And many firewalls don't play well when it is turned on.

what is the best way about going about how to do this?
I have tried the following and did not work is this only for Win7 machines?:
1.) Open %systemroot%\system32\grouppolicy\

2.) Within this folder, there are two folders ? ?machine? and ?user?. Copy these to folders to the ?%systemroot%\system32\grouppolicy ? folder on the target machine. All it needs now is a reboot or a ?gpupdate /force?.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have four computers in my network. One is connected via cable to the router. Two are wireless, and the fourth one connects through ICS on one of the wireless computers. All of the computers but the ICS(Win ME) one are running Windows XP Home.

The problem is with the wireless computer sharing it's internet connection. Whenever I enable Windows Firewall the other computers cannot access it. If I click on it in the workgroup (on one of the other computers) it says network path not found. If I disable windows firewall, everything works fine. It can access the other computers fine either way.

How do I configure Windows Firewall to allow access by the other computers? I figure it has something to do with the ICS because I didn't have this problem until I set that up. Does Windows Firewall just not work with ICS? I think I provided all the information, but let me know if something else will help. Thanks

I have 2 PCs, both with all the latest Vista updates.
Both PCs work perfectly to the Internet.
PC2 blocks any ping requests from PC1. I get an error “Request timed out”.
I turned ON ALL ICMP types (not just ping) in Domain, Private and Public profiles in Windows Firewall (WF)  by creating exception rules and rebooted but still could not ping PC2.
I turned OFF Domain, Private and Public profiles in WF, rebooted but still could not ping.
Only by shutting down the WF service itself completely (in services.msc, stopped WF and then set to manual) and rebooting could I then ping. Network Discovery now works and I can map the drives.
So even with Domain, Private and Public turned off, WF was still blocking Private pings.
Any idea what else there is in Windows Firewall that can block pings even with rules set up to allow pings please ?
I want to be able to turn the WF service back on so I have a firewall running, but I can't turn it on as long as it is blocking pings.

My concern is only that request will move to the firewall which want internet access, apart from that all LAN traffic will use another gateway to local transfer or communication purpose.

I have in my house a small network consisting of two computers, a Desktop and a Laptop. The desktop is connected directly to a Cable modem. I also have a Wireless-G access point connected to the modem, and through this i can connect my laptop to the Internet.

I have both computers setup in a workgroup, sharing files between them.

Both computers are running Windows XP Home with service pack 2. As far as i can see the Firewall configurations are the same in both computers. I have enabled the UPnP framework and it worked fine for a while. However when i turned off both computers for the first time after setting up the network, and turned them back on, the Firewall on the desktop began blocking the laptop, so it couldnt recognize it as part of the workgroup, thus the network stopped working.

From the desktop i can access the laptop without any problems. However, from the laptop i cant access the desktop. I get a message saying:

"An error occurred while reconnecting to W: to (mapped drive from desktop name) Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name is already in use. This connection has not been restored"
If I turn off the firewall the network connections work perfectly, however i can't seem to get it to work with the firewall and i really don't like the idea of having the firewall turned off.

I really don't know what to try next, so I would appreciate it very much if someone could help me out with this.

Thank you

I am working with a Windows 7 Embedded system that is in a workgroup (not on a domain). The firewall rules are specified in the Local Group Policy. Much of the system has been locked down according to DoD standards. The first time the system identifies a
local private network, all firewall rules are applied as expected. After a reboot, only firewalls specified in local settings (the MMC snapin) are applied as seen through the Advanced Firewall Monitoring in the MMC snapin. I can run "gpupdate /force"
to re-apply the rules. However the firewall reverts to local rules after the next reboot.
The local group policy is configured to not allow local rules. The behavior with this set seems to be opposite of expectations (local is merged, GPO rules are not) but changing this does not change the outcome.
I've reviewed all of the Windows event logs that I know to be applicable, and find little to go on. Any help would be appreciated.

A couple of days ago my laptop was working fine and connected wirelessly to the Internet. Yesterday it wouldn't connect at all, only locally, without access to the Internet. Other devices in the household can connect though. After restarting the router and my laptop numerous times, I did a diagnose and repair, and the only solution was "security settings on this computer might be blocking the connection. the following policy might need to be adjusted to allow windows to connect: policy provider: windows firewall, filter name: query user. First off, THANKS for your time - anyone who responds! And yes, I have searched and searched... and understand what I need to do mostly, but need some expert opinions.

We have a cable modem going to my wife's work Netgear ProSafe VPN Firewall which goes to her work computer and VOIP phone. The Netgear is basically a router and uses 192.168.5.#.

The problem is, I want to open some ports for our home computer and use wireless in our house - but cannot access her work router (not wireless) or have my wife understand anything I ask her to ask her IT people to do.

So, I have a Linksys wireless router that I want to connect to the modem FIRST -- so that I can control the wireless on that and open ports as needed, etc. and then connect her work router to ours ( where hers can then go off to her equipment ).

The issue: I cannot change her router settings at all... nor the gateway, IP's, etc. -- I want our home computer to not have to use her router's settings anymore... as currently, everything is plugged into hers as there are eight slots. Both CPU's are running XP.

I know in networking two routers, you have to turn one DHCP to auto get IP's from the other, etc. and make one address static - like while the other is with the range of IP's the second router pulls from.... but I do not know how to do what I want on my router WHILE using the settings from her router.

Can I reverse the process/order like this? If I connect my wi... Read more

Try File History.  But you may need to be quick.  It starts saving the empty folder as a "version", so then depending on how many versions you have and how much time elapses between versions you really won't have any Favorites.  BTDT.
Still have no idea why they keep disappearing (mostly on Surface RT (W8.2).

I can ping other IP addresses as well. At home, I have one computer with DSL also. I can access everything from this computer as well.

Here is my problem: I have an ftp server and a hotline set up at work. Other people can access both servers with no problems. I cannot access it from my home computer (nor can I ping my router). I then set up an ftp server and a hotline server at. Again, other people can access them, but I cannot from work. Also, I cannot ping my home IP from work (I can ping others just fine).

Could somebody please tell me what I'm doing wrong? I really would like to get this problem resolved.

A:Work Computers Cannot Access Home Computers

Are the home and work PC's set up on a WAN through your ISP or are they just on the Internet? Are you trying to connect from the PC's behind the router? Sounds like it is using some kind of network address translation that the other ends FTP doesn't accept. Look at the log on your FTP client for a clue as to why it's not connecting. Don't use IE for an FTP client because it has no log you can read. Use something like WS_FTP

I'm currently in the process of testing/deploying IE11 in our environment and I've begun testing on the IE11 Enterprise Site List manager.
I've read that there are a few different ways to configure the XML file to apply via GPO per the article below.  HTTP, Local Network, Local File. (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/Dn640699.aspx)
In my isolated testing I've chosen to use the local file method which is very easy to setup and use on a testing machine.
It looks like we have the flexibility to choose how we apply the XML file, and I was curious what the best options are and why?  Also are there examples of each setup being used and the benefits/downsides to each?
Here's the options that I can see using:
1. HTTP - setup an IIS website to host the XML file.
2. Local Network (UNC) - setup a UNC path on our DFS where we store the current XML file and users would have read only access to that location.
3. Local File - We could just deploy the XML file via SCCM package/application when updates to the list are required.
Could anyone please point me towards some articles, etc, explaining the pro's and cons of these methods and why I might want to choose one over the other?  I'm leaning towards just using a DFS share and option #2 because it doesn't require us to maintain
an IIS site for it but I am curious to hear if there might be any downsides to this method, or benefits to going with another method.

I have a user is on his personal Win 7 home PC with his Canon printer plugged in via USB. From his home PC, he VPN's and RDP's into his Win 7 box here at the office. The question is that he would like to print files within the RDP session from his local printer connected to his local home PC. Is that even possible to do? And how?

Have you checked 'Local devices and resources' within the RDP setting?
Make sure 'Printers' is ticked

Does this help?

We have a Windows 7 PC, joined to a a Windows Domain
Windows 7 PC owner was authorized to keep his PC "as is", with all content in it, including several different softwares, including MS Outlook 2013 and many others
The only thing they asked, it it to create a new local user and they asked to migrate the full (local stored) domain profile to his new local (loca user) profile, keeping, colors, sizes of icons, applications.. everything as currently is
So, there is a free tool to do this? I found a FirenseIT tool, but it requires a fee to pro/enterprise editions

Last night while I was at work, my weekly antivirus scan (Comodo Internet Security 3.13.125662.579) popped up an error that read "Update failed. Error code 0x80004002. No such interface supported" I clicked OK and then attempted to close the scan that had hung. It popped up a new error of "Update failed Error Code 0x800705aa Insufficient system resources" I rebooted and ran the scan a second time with the same results, but the scan hung up on a different file. A third attempt hung on yet another file at random times in the scan process.

Reading the support forums for solutions suggested reinstall of the software. So I uninstalled and attempted to reinstall.

The installation went on, then ended with an unspecified error that ended in a rollback of the installation.

Checking my event logs has me concerned because I notice activation of many .net framework errors, and bootstart/application start failures to load. Most of which were files related to my firewall/AV followed by Terminal Services, Fast user switching, IP Traffic filter driver, Telephony, and remote access connection manager services.

I am concerned that I have been hacked/wormed or virused. Mostly because under "Documents and Settings there is a new "Administrator" folder which did not exist before where only "All users, Default user, and Kumu Honua" were in the past.

I have uninstalled the comodo internet security files as far as I am aware but still see remnants th... Read more
