removing duplicate email in OE6

Q: removing duplicate email in OE6

Greetings Folk,

After major problems, I have imported several folders of DBX files. For whatever reason (please dont ask ) ) i have multiple back up folders with mostly duplicat info but with lots of non duplicate info in the various back up folders as well.

Question:-
1 - How do i delete the duplicates.
2 - i seem to have lost my Outlook Express subfolders is there a way to reveal them if possible.

Thanks

Preferred Solution: removing duplicate email in OE6

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Walterose

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Importing will do that, keep adding and adding with each subsequent Import performed.
I usually try an Import using a new Identity first to see what results I can expect, "NOW you tell me", you say

This is what I have found so far that relates to duplicate messages:
http://www.oehelp.com/OEX/Default.aspx
Not free though.

Subfolders created under the Inbox or other folders?
Do you have Outlook Express configured to show all folders?
Tools > Options > General tab
place a checkmark in: Automatically display folders with unread messages
Close Outlook Express, then restart, subfolders should be showing if they contain unread messages.

Do you have Subfolders at all?
_______________________________________________________________

You can also check the directory where your Store Folder is kept and see if you can locate the names of the folders that appear to be missing.
In Outlook Express
Tools > Options > Maintenance tab
click the Store Folder button to see the path where the Identity keeps its .dbx files.
Close Outlook Express.
Using Windows Explorer, navigate to that directory and search for those folders.
_______________________________________________________________

Or run a Search
key in:
*.dbx
and look through the Search results for your missing folders.

If you locate the missing folders and they are still not showing in Outlook Express, Close Outlook Express, locate the Folders.dbx file and rename it Folders.old.

Close your Search window and restart Outlook Express, a fresh new Folders.dbx file will be created and your missing folders should now appear.

You will no longer have subfolders after renaming the Folders.dbx file and all folders will line up under the Default folders in Alphabetical order.

Let us know what you find.

I'm trying to remove duplicative data from cells in a column based on information from another cell.

Example:

Col A Col B Col C Col D
Name1 Dept 1 Salary 1 Bonus 1
Name2 Dept 2 Salary 2 Bonus 2
Name2 Dept 3 Salary 3 Bonus 2
Name3 Dept 4 Salary 4 Bonus 3

In the above, there are 2 separate entries for Name2 because they were in 2 separate depts. My source data lists the bonus amount (Bonus 2) paid to Name2 but lists it twice incorrectly and I need to remove the duplicate so it should look like this:

Col A Col B Col C Col D
Name1 Dept 1 Salary 1 Bonus 1
Name2 Dept 2 Salary 2 Bonus 2
Name2 Dept 3 Salary 3
Name3 Dept 4 Salary 4 Bonus 3

Any help or ideas would be outstanding.

I don't trust free duplicate file finders. Is there a way to find and delete duplicate files easily from a folder in Windows 10 that does not require using another program?

A:Removing duplicate files

Well, you could upload files and have their hash computed and do it that way, but that would be gloriously inefficient...
MD5 File - HTML5 File Hash Online Calculator - MD5, SHA1, SHA2 (SHA-256), SHA-384, SHA-512

Then you've got music file matching- and specialised programs - just an example where similar (not identical) files might be identified..

Additional columns in explorer offer nothing useful in this regard.

Looking for a utility that will remove duplicate files.

All suggestions greatly appreciated.

A:Removing duplicate files

You do not really want to remove duplicate files- many are required for the system to function!!

Only if you are absolutely confident that you can determine which are not required, should you undertake this. A utility will not know which to remove and which to leave! It will just give you a listing. At least that is what a good one would do. Sure don't want one that just goes barging ahead.

Go to this link for some references to utilities, if you want to proceed:

Over the years I've taken massive amounts of photos that translate to thousands of files. I've also moved the files around quite a bit creating multiple copies of the same image. Now I want to create a centralized copy of all the images but I want to take out any of the duplicate images. Standard copy/replace doesn't work since some images with the same filename aren't the same image.

Is there anyway to delete the duplicate images? I'm thinking of some kind of checksum for each image and running it against every other image in the set. Thanks!

If you are talking about duplicate system files or program files...I suggest that you revise your thinking. Programs are written to look for files in a given place/path...if they are not there, the programs don't necessarily search the entire system looking for them. Then you will wonder why your system is not performing properly.

If you are talking data files...I have to wonder what's wrong with the Delete button on your system.

In response to your query....there are several programs available that chase down duplicate files on a system. Just do a Google, using the string "remove duplicate files" or something analogous. There are utilities to remove many, but few to restore such when deleted.

How can I remove some duplicate folders from Outlook 2010?

The duplicate folders are: “Inbox, drafts, sent items, deleted items, junk email, outbox, RSS Feeds, and Search folders.”

I have tried for years to get rid of the extra folders that are not needed and not used but have not had any luck in getting rid of them.

They even reappear when I reinstall the program.

Microsoft’s help pages do not offer anything that works.

Has anyone here been able to delete this type of extra folders.

Thanks

Help! Last night we had to re-IP one of our Windows 2003 Domimain Controllers that is running DHCP. After changing the DNS entry for the DC and changing the IP address on the DC we were able to go to our ROOT DC and add the Server with its new IP address to the list of authorized DHCP server but when we selected the entry for the DC with the old IP address and pressed "unauthorize", a message appeared on the screen saying that there was no object on the server. So what we have now is two entries in the DHCP authorized server list for the same server name but with different addresses and I can't remove the old one through the MMC or with NETSH. We would REALLY like to get rid of the entry with the old IP address. Can anyone tell me how I might get rid of this bogus entry? Thanks.

Hi MasterNe0

What version of Outlook are you using?

At www.slipstick.com use the key words: remove duplicates
most of the results were trials and not freeware.

At least one tool was free:

You might also consider making a copy of the .pst file before running any tools, just in case of unexpected or undesired results.

Hi Everyone,

I am using Windows Media Player 12 and I would like to remove duplicate song entries from my Music Library without deleting files from a networked computer.

My challenge is that I have added multiple networked folder locations to my Media Library, and on some of those network drives the same Albums exists.

For example

\\Computer1\My Music
+ Album ABC
+ Album DEF
+ Album XYZ

\\Computer2\My Music
+ Album GHI
+ Album STU
+ Album XYZ

In the above example both Computers 1 & 2 have a local copy of Album XYZ. Because of this every song appears twice in the Media Player Library (and by inference Playlist).

Further to the above example if I open Media Player and perform a search for Album XYZ I then see the following -

Song1
Song1
Song2
Song2
Song3
Song3
Song4
Song4
etc...

I can right click on individual songs and select "Remove from this list" - however this is very tedious.

Is there a way of telling Media Player to only put one copy of each individual song into the Media Library regardless of how many copies of the song actually exist in the Libraries folder locations?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Davo

A:Removing duplicate entries from Windows Media Player without deleting

Open WMP 12
Click File >> Manage Libraries
Choose media type.
Remove all locations except the one you want WMP to use for adding to it's library.

I suggest you delete all existing libraries first, then start afresh by setting up the required media locations as above.

I keep getting duplicate emails,Ive reinstalled windows 7 and reinstalled Thunderbird as well but it is still doing it? I read on the knowledge database help section on Thunderbird that imap is used by default instead of pop which is what I originally set it up with.I'm using a different ISP now and still have the same problem. It must be coming from an email server but I don't know how to contact them or configure it? I'm at a complete loss on what to do about it now?

A:Duplicate email problem

The info in the link below describes several scenarios of why emails are duplicated.
Email Troubleshooting - Duplicate Emails

I think this one applies to you because you receive duplicates of every email.

I get multiple copies of every email.
Likely cause: You have multiple forwarders set up. Let's say person A is getting the double copies. Perhaps emails to B forward to A and C, while emails to C also forward to A. So A is getting the emails from both B and C.

Hello

This is my first post to this site which looks like a great resource!

A friend recently sent a response to an email I'd sent her which included several embedded photos. Her email included lots of 'goobledegook' (random letters and numbers) and the photos had been deleted. I also received 30 duplicate emails that only contained the goobledook. Each email had a different number at the end of the subject line but was posted at the same time. After that I've received about 12 copies of this same email each time I open Outlook. I've done a scan of Program Files using ESET Smart Security but nothing was found. I'm running Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2007.

My friend let me know that something similar has happened before and that she has problems every time she tries to send an attachment.

Any suggestions about how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated!

many thanks

June

A:Continuous duplicate email problem

A common cause of this is a bad message on the server that Outlook is unable to download properly. When it gets to that message it stops downloading and never continues to the step where it deletes the downloaded messages from the server. The next time you try to download, those same messages are still on the server and they get downloaded again.

Login to webmail and delete all the messages that have been getting downloaded repeatedly, and delete the next message after them, which is likely to be the one that's causing the failure. Then try downloading with Outlook again.

A:Duplicate & Triplicate Email msgs-Why?

You probably have a corrupt POP3UIDL.DBX file.

Close OE and delete that file (search for it on hard drive).

It will be recreated when you re-open OE.

However BE VERY CAREFUL, there can be bad things happen if you do this, so make sure you read up about it first.

I am not takin responsibility for what might happen, but this worked on my machine. There are also special instructions for hotmail users.

I have been accused of forwarding messages to a group of people, one of which claimed she got over 50 of them. Another friend has been accused of sending a message to two people that claimed to receive many copies. In on case my wife got a message with overa full page of the same message and suddenly they started deleting dwon to one message

In all the cases mentioned the sent message total showed just one message. I have searched the web for possible reason for this whithout a clear possible cause. In one case I got a reply for Outlook and Outlook Express that was to protect the person receiving the duplicate copies but nothing about settings that would prevent the action.

Does anyone have any ideas??? Pleae ignor missplelled words I slept during spelling during growing up.

A:duplicate email messages, lots of them

One common cause of repeated sends that can be traced back to your actual mail program is possibly anti-malware tools that are trying to scan outgoing email, or otherwise interfere with the proper operation of the mail program. It's a common cause of repeated (or failed) downloads of email, and when the feature is enabled to scan sent mail, it can interfere there as well.

Depending on the type of interference, the email program responds by saying "well, that didn't work, I'll try to send it again" - and again, and again.

The solution here is pretty simple: locate that feature in your anti-malware or security suite, and turn it off. You may need to close and restart your email program, or even reboot your machine for the change to take effect.

Another possibility is that the Sent folder has a size limit. Let's say there's a 2GB limit for all saved Sent emails. Once that limit is reached weird things can happen. If there are a lot of emails with photo attachments, etc in the Sent folder, it wouldn't be all that hard to reach the mail box limit. Try creating a new folder. Call it whatever you want; maybe something like "SentArchive", or "OldSenrMail" and move all the messages in your Sent folder to the new folder. That should a) retain all your sent messages should you need to refer to them, and b) empty the Sent folder so the mail box limit isn't a factor.

Another possibility is that your email account has been compromised. This art... Read more

One of my users is having problems with email server timeouts and duplicate email. I'm assuming the two problems are realted. It started after he returned from a long vacation. I cleaned several virus's from hundreds of files, installed and implemented SpyBot to take care of adware and put AVG on his system.

Server timeouts occur every time he tries to get his email, (OE). Some messages are being duplicated a dozen or more times. His ISP says they can't help and the problem must be at his end.

I found a thread here that talks about a corrupted Pop3uidl.dbx file but it is a very old thread(2001), and I can't find that filename on my system.

Suggestions?

Hello,

I have 2 computers - an eMachines desktop and a Gateway laptop. They are both Windows 7, and I use Windows Live Mail on both. I use the desktop during the day, and set up the laptop on the bed for the evening before I go to sleep. I have 3 email addresses, and want to use the 3rd one on both computers. This way, I don't have to have my friends or groups writing to me at two different addresses, which is difficult to remember and complicated for them. When I'm not at the desktop, I want to receive the email from the 3rd address on the laptop, and vice versa.

The problem that arises is, I get full downloads of all emails for the day on both computers. Anything I've already received on the desktop is also received when I move to the laptop later in the day. Is there any way to stop these duplicate downloads?

Or should I just find a better program to use? If so, suggestions?

I get an email to my company email from an external source (not company email) that is CC to another company email address, and I will get a duplicate email in my inbox. If it is CC to 2 people I will get 2 duplicates (3 messages in total) This leads me to believe that outlook is not configured to pull the right emails from the server right? However, when receiving an email from an internal source (company email) and it is CC to another compnay member, I only get 1 copy. When dealing with 1 to 1 emails, everything works fine. I've had this problem for years. My Windows Live Mail 2012 frequently (not always) downloads duplicates of every new email. The email protocol is POP3. Someone suggested I should use IMAP. I tried it. . . but, at least with Comcast's system, IMAP duplicates what's on the server. . . which can go back several years of emails. . . which I DO NOT want to retain. Comcast provides no option to delete emails older that X days, so when I switched to IMAP, every g.d. email I've received in the last 3 years downloaded to my Inbox. So I went back to POP3.

So why do I get duplicates?

I know that Outlook keeps an ID record of emails that are downloaded - but is this kept within the *pst file? If so then it should work that I can copy the *pst file and carry on without duplicates. I can understand that if I created a new blank account with nothing in it, then the old files would download...but will this still happen if I just copy & paste the email *pst account file across (keeping the name the same) - same Office 365....

Thanks in advance for your time,

All of a sudden, most of my emails are coming with a text attachment. When I open it, it is just a duplicate of the email itself. I haven't changed anything that I am aware of. What could be causing this and how do I stop this?

Thank you,
Cindy

Due to numerous computer crashes over years as well as regularly back-up my Outlook folders on DVD's, I got stuck end of last year with all these back-ups, but an Outlook that did not work when I tried to import all this data, most of which will in any case be duplicates.I believe there is some or other 2 GB cap.Outlook 2010, which I have, is working well, having started from scratch. I would like to try to recover some of these old emails/contacts and delete all the duplicates.Due to limited space on my PC's, I downloaded the 20GB pst and other files on my daughter's laptop. She has Windows 7 and Outlook 2007. I downloaded it into C: User\...\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst. All these emails are visible as far as I can see when I open Outlook on her laptop.I have installed Accurate Outlook Duplicate Remover on her laptop to remove the duplicates, but it gives me the error message when I open the programme that it "cannot find the Outlook files"So my questions-Where should I store these Outlook files on her laptop, for AODR to find it?Is there another way of deleting all these duplicates?Kind regardsAlbie

Office 2010 has a limit of 20Gig PST Files, so I would recommend using the most recent one and forget the rest.

I'm getting a pop-up bubble that reads: System Alert: [email protected] It is in the lower right corner and several other of the same popups with different messages, such as System Alert: Malware threats and Security Alert: [email protected] also appear. Security Toolbar 7.1 also showed up around the same time in my internet explorer and I am not sure if they are related. I also have Online Security Guide and Live Safety Center that showed up on my desktop. My problem sounds exactly like many others but I have followed their instructions to fix this and nothing is working. I really have no clue what I'm doing and would really appreciate if someone could look at my hijack log to see what can be done to fix this

Thanks

I have noticed recently that anytime someone sends me attachments, OE removes them for security reasons. I know for a fact that the attachement is ok. I know that I didn't configure OE to do this. I am puzzled. Does anyone have any ideas?. I have Outlook Express Version 6.

Thansk for your help.
