Q: Solved: windows 2000 pro- driver for a modem-never heard of this modem-help

Windows 2000 pro

Just put this operation system on and it won't find a driver for the modem. It had windows 98SE on it and put windows 2000 pro reset it to NTFS and got the system going etc. I took the modem out. It isn't in a pci or isa slot it looks like a miniture APG Slot. A little brown slot above the pci slots looks only a couple of inches long. If anyone knows what you call that slot I would like to know. Anyway All it says on the modem is this

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I know I have the modem hooked up right, I know the dial up is hooked up right, It keeps saying there is no dial tone so I unchecked the dial tone detection and you could hear the modem dial up right away but it would dial once and then nothing. There is a phone dialer hooked up on this computer will that make a difference if it will dial out or not? there is only one place to plug the RJ11 line in. Most have the phone jack and the line jack this one doesn't. This guy had a bunch of spyware and a few trojans etc on his computer and asked it I would help him. I caught a bunch of stuff but I have to be able to dial up so I can update the programs I am running. Need some suggestions, Thanks The modem is a HCF 56K MCI Modem and like I said it is hooked up right you can query it and it gets answers and no dial tone but unchecking the dial tone detection box you can then hear it dial up but does it once and then nothing. I no the line is good.

I am helping an older lady put in a modem. We had a storm and it blew her modem out cause she did not unplug the phone line.

Hers in an old Gateway computer with windows 98
I took a modem out of an older HP computer with windows xp on it that I had to help her out. Got inside her computer and the modem she had was hooked in an APG slot with a wire going to the motherboard. I uninstalled her modem and unhooked it and took it out. My modem is for a PCI slot (I hope I am right that it will make no difference) I put mine in the pci slot and started her computer and it reconized the modem right away but has not got a driver for it. Her old modem was in a APG slot and was a us robotics 56k voice win.

The one I put in is in a pci slot and is a Agere systems PCI soft modem. on my computer it said under driver in the modem area that the driver was a I have no clue what that is. It said provided by Agere also---- Device ID = 11c1-048C It says INF file oem27.inf does that mean I can download it onto a cd from my computer? if not do you no where I can get a driver for it? I need it ot put on hers cause it reconized the modem so it sounds like as soon as I can get a driver she will be able to dial up. I tried going to www.agere.com but it hasn't got anything for soft modem. I have her computer apart and the modem installed and she is waiting for me to come back. Can someone help soon? I will wait as long as it takes. I know your busy. Thanks

Hey, I am trying to install a USB WWAN modem on my Vista laptop (2.33 ghz, 2 gb ram) and when i follow the instructions on the software provided, it says to insert the usb modem and let windows recognize it and install it, and go from there.

the problem is, once i put in the usb drive, vista recognizes that there is a new device in, but once it tries to install it, it won't recognize any drivers on the disc thats inserted, and doesn't find anything on the rest of the computer.

the modem has been successfully installed on two XP machines, and one mac, so i know that its possible to do, but its not letting me do it on my laptop...

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

A:USB modem WWAN modem won't install in Windows Vista

I would say check the mfg website and see if you cant find some updated drivers for it or even check google and see if anyone has "hacked" the XP drivers into working with Vista. I know that Vista's been having lots of issues with past and current third party products and so it could just be that your modem is incompatible with Vista or you just need to look a bit more for newer drivers.

A:unable to connect using modem to internet on windows 2000

Why not give the following a try:

1) Download the newest and latest drivers from the modem manufacturer’s website. (I know, you have a disk, but download the newest and best anyhow.

2) Enter Start, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager and DELETE any references to any modem.

3) Shut down and physically remove the modem and then put the modem back in PCI slot #3 (Third slot down from the AGP slot)

4) Boot up and enter the BIOS setup menu.

5) In the BIOS setup menu find the PnP area. If you are running WinXP or win2k, then DISABLE Pnp….however, if you are using Win98, then make sure it is ENABLED.

6) Save and Exit

7) Boot back up and when the computer finds your modem, then load the drivers that have been downloaded from the manufacturer’s website. It may tell you that the latest and best are already installed, but install them anyway. (for example, WinXP and win2k only have v.90 drivers and not the most recent v.92 that are needed for best operation) If it says they are not digitally signed, then load them anyway. This is a long story, but I can assure you it is a money issue and a rip off from Microsoft in my opinion.

This should get you going!

The data light on my motarola surfboard cable modem is on, so it appears data is getting through. Tech support from th cable comp has been fruitless. The first "cure" was to shut down the computer and unplug the modem, this works at resetting the modem and the connection, but it shuts off again in the same manner. A tech guy came to the house and said it was the computer, not my modem or connection. Has anyone heard of this, and does anybody have any suggestions, I am now slower than ever because im shutting down and restarting every 5 minutes. Please help.

I am having difficulty with the dialup modem in my new computer. It is a Motorola
SM56 Speakerphone Modem.

The tech folks at the builder of the computer have given me links to two downloads that,
hopefully, will solve the problem. One is for a "universal" modem driver and the other a
replacement Realtek High Definition Audio driver. I was advised to put the audio driver in place first.

My question is why would replacing the modem driver also require replacing the other
one, too?

My curiosity is just too great to not call upon you good people for some insight.

Thanks, {redoak}

A:Solved: Need for audio driver along with one for modem?

How old is this computer? Did the builder not provide the computer to you in working order with the modem functioning properly? If your computer is under warranty I surely would return it to the builder to get it working as it should.
Is this a replacement modem? Is the sound card also not working?

Hi everyone, this is my first post here.

I'm trying to get my old computer fixed up with windows 98 for my grandad, and ive been having various troubles:

First with my old ess solo-1 1938S sound card... which i managed to get working, by changing its driver resources in the Windows 98 hardware device manager, it was conflicting with the graphics card.. by default :s

My graphics card, a very old card, was also having trouble, things looked blotchy and messed up, but I managed to fix that with an older driver (instead of the window 98 default)

The only thing that isnt working now is the modem, an internal PCI 56k Rockwell RS56 R679311, the driver installs and Windows 98 says that the device is working properly, but when I try to dial a number or even look at diagnostics, the system reboots, by experimenting with installing and uninstalling it it has also given me the blue screen of death, and then rebooted, two times that it has rebooted it has cleared all my connection and dial-up information.

So far I've tried changing its device resources, but all this has done is made the system crash totally (but not reboot) and had a look in my motherboard BIOS for any clues; Ive changed a few things in desperation, like the default modem IRQ (which doesnt mean anything to me). And changed the IRQ list from automatic to manual, but nothing has had any good effect.

This post is just a "heads-up" for anyone who is looking to upgrade this ESS modem driver (see title of this post for exact modem) to run with XP HE.

I recently had to upgrade an ESS Modem driver so that my ESS modem would run with XP HE. I had previously had W98SE on a machine that I installed XP HE on. The modem is an ESS ES56CVH-PI Data Fax Voice Modem. The modem ran fine with 98SE on the machine, but when I installed XP, it wasn't even listed in Device Manager. And the XP CD Driver Library DID NOT have a driver for this particular modem.

I ultimately found the upgrade, XP compatible, driver for this modem at both the ESS web site and also the DriverGuide.com web site. The file is named M2EM_XP_2188h029.ZIP

First off, the laptop can see the hardware (ethernet card) when I insert it, but the connection is NOT showing up on my Netgear router that is connected to my Comcast Cable Modem (which is currently working on my MAC and how I'm typing here). When I go to set up internet connection on my laptop, I'm pretty clueless as to what to do (obviously not dial-up). I've created about 2 new VPN's, but nothing works. I don't have wireless, but I did have a wireless card that was able to get me onto the internet a few times (presumably mooching bandwidth which I don't want to do), so I know it can work or at least should work with a correct card set-up. I don't know if the hardware I bought is bad, the internet connection is just not set up correctly and/or why my router is not even seeing my second computer.

XP insists on installing the wrong modem driver as below:
info was obtained by Device manager's interigation of the modem

Modem type: Sportster MessagePlus Pro V90 PnP
Modem inf path: mdmusrg.inf
Modem inf section: Modem10

which also provided:
ATI3 - U.S. Robotics 56K Pro Msg Ext 12.2.8
ATI4 - U.S. Robotics 56K Professional Message
which is the corect identification of the modem

I have tried removing the modem from Device manager and then using Control Panel Add Hardware but
this insists on finding the modem and and identifying it as
Sportster MessagePlus Pro V90 PnP
If I try to update the driver by pointing at the correct inf file "mdmusrmo.inf"
I get the following report "The wizard could not find a better match for your hardware than the software currently installed"

As windows wizard incorrectly identifies the modem is it possible to bypass the wizard and manually set the correct modem type as
U.S. Robotics 56K Professional Message
and then update the driver?

Problem Solved

While BRVP Classic Phone Tools 6 takes notice of WinXP's installed driver and will not work with my modem. Not even allowing its own messages of average 7k to be downloaded to the modem stating that the max size is 30k

During Instalation SuperVoice Pro 6 interigates the modem and would seem to ignore WinXP's driver and set the modem up correctly and allowed me to download a message of 40,464k.
Well done SuperVoice:up:

Hi All,
I have Laptop Toshiba Satellite L775, windows 7. I used cable modem Motorola SURFboard SBG6580 and it was working fine. Then I changed my ISP to Century Link and used their DSL modem and still everything worked just fine. Now I moved to another city and used same cable modem (SBG6580) and connected my business PC thru ethernet and it is working fine. The problem is with my laptop which I tried to connect wirelessly but coudn't so I tried to connect it thru ethernet but it does not even recognizes it. Funny thing is my hard wired computer has picked up same network name thru modem and is working fine both thru ethernet and wifi (this computer I am using first time with this modem).
My laptop find available networks and when I select my network with password, some time it says connected with limited access and some time "windows was unable to connect" message. I tried most of the solutions by calling Suddenlink and Motorola but no luck. I am wordering if it has to do anything with centurylink's DSL modem being used on this laptop before and somehow blocking cable modem?
Any help?
