I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Apologies if this question has been previously answered.  I searched and couldn't find a response.   I'm still using the original HDD that came with the laptop.  I'm thinking of upgrading to an SSD and cloning the HDD to the SSD.  My question is what to do, if anything, with the, M.2 16gb cache that came with the laptop.  Should this drive be left alone as is in the laptop after the HDD to SSD upgrade?  Should it be removed?  Should anything be done to the M.2 drive if I upgrade the HDD?  My understanding is it currently speeds up the computer at start-up and with an SSD, this wouldn't be all that necessary.   I appreciate everyone's time.  Thank you.   -Rich

Dear Users, Since a few moments I am a (happy) owner of Lenovo?s new and business class model T440s. As I could find out, Lenovo is building in two different displays. On the one hand there are several model with aLG-DisplayModel: LP140WF1 (sp)(k1)P/N: 0C00349FRU: 04X0626 And the other from AUOModel: AUO B140HAN01.2FRU: 04X0436 (You can look up your displaymodel via BIOS, Everest or any related program) As far as I could find out in the world wide web there are several users reporting with a LG Display in their T440s that it is in quality inferior to the AUO Display. It seems that Lenovo is ready to replace the LG with an AUO display, sending out a tech. My question is what your experiences are and what can we, the owner of a  LG-Display, do?Is there a real quality gap between these two types of Display? My T440s, as i mentioned, has a LG Display. I can live with this one, if there are no great difference in the quality to the AUO Display. I am excited about your opinions. Thanks Fire

A:T440s - LG or AUO Display

Don't sweat it. Both are absolutey huge upgrades over the TN panel. While the AUO is a bit better, its not worth the trouble. I have both and I like both. I did a compare on the same thread u heard about the issue.

Make sure drivers are updated and not using a generic VGA driver. This would make the dock not work and not be able to adjust screen brightness. If it is to the point where you can hardly see it at all then it most likely is a bad screen.

Hello,On my T440S, since BIOS v2.37.1.13 (with little hope that v2.39 would fix it, I installed it to no avail), I can no longer enter hibernation. When I try to do so, the red LED blinks multiple times and then the computer immediately wakes up. The event viewer only shows:The system has returned from a low power state.Wake Source: UnknownThe workaround is to either unplug all usb devices, or disable USB 3.0 support in the BIOS, which sucks for a 1000e + laptop.Otherwise, the computer enters a sleep-hibernate-wake up loop which is draining the battery. When do you plan on releasing an update (BIOS or USB 3.0 driver) to fix this hibernation issue?Thank you.

So I'm having trouble with my wifi card on my t440s.I began by putting the windows 7 x86 hard drive in the laptop from my x220, the wifi didn't work so I uninstalled the old drivers and replaced the drivers with the recommended t440s drivers on this site. The wireless worked, I then installed all the stuff lenovo bridge suggested, the start bar stuff annoyed me so I took it out. From then on no operating system, or drivers I have installed, have been able to find the hardware for the Wifi drivers. The bluetooth is working and I have tried using the bios to make sure the wifi function key isn't broken.I have also tried installing windows 7 x64, which is what im working with now, to try and find the hardware. When I go into network adapters, its literally just not there.

Hello! I have following issue with my new T440s' speakers:a) having generic audio driver, there is silent noise everytime some sound is played approx. for 5 secondsb) having most recent Realtek there is permanent the same noise unless it is muted using Fn+F1. Only "software mute" doesn't work. I have Windows 8.1 x64.I tried some googled tips with disabling the microphone but none of them has worked. This is very annoying, since there is SSD and ULV this is the only noise this laptop produce. Thank you! Drozi

I have exactly same problem. However, I don't think that this is driver problem since this buzzing is heard even when laptop is in bios. From what I can tell, sound(buzzing) is comming directly from speakers.(both of them) And you are right, it is extremly annoying and it is killing this otherwise very quiet laptop.

I have 3 Dell U2414H monitors that support DisplayPort 1.2 daisy chaining.  I purchased the T440s with docking station.  The laptop arrived before the dock.  It has Windows 8.1 Pro x64 running.  I setup the monitors to daisy chain off of the T440s miniDP port.  I got exactly as I should.  3 separate monitors.  I could maximize windows inside a monitor and they'd maximize to their monitor.  I could drag windows between monitors.  Everything is working. When the dock came in (today) I left the monitors daisy chained.  I did change out one cable (that I know is working) so that the DP input would attach to the dock's DP output.  I am not getting a picture on the monitors.  If I use just one monitor, and turn off DP1.2 (in the monitor's menu), I get a picture on one monitor.  Do these docks not support daisy chaining?  I've verified that I'm on FW 2.17 for the dock.  I also want to submit a support ticket with Lenovo, I just don't know how to do that yet.  Thanks!

Something is wrong with the keyboard my 3-year old T440s. Windows 10 hangs on start-up. Pressing Enter key doesn't go into BIOS at start-up. Pressing F1 does take me to BIOS but within BIOS no other keys work, enter, arrow keys, F9, F10 all don't work. On the other hand, it seems that the Fn key is always in effect -- pressing space key can change the keyboard light (which was supposed to be Fn+space). Any idea what the problem could be? At least what can I do first so that Windows 10 can be loaded?

Hi everyone, I'm trying to figure out if I have a unique problem, or whether this is a broader T440s problem. Occasionally, especially when my T440s has gone to hibernation from sleep, I cannot turn on the computer unless I plug it into the wall. That is to say, when I hit the power button when the computer is unplugged, NOTHING happens. I've tried holding the power button down, pressing it repeatedly, removing the external battery and then pressing the startup button, etc.  If I plug the computer into the wall, it starts up fine and shows that there is sufficient battery life. This does not happen consistently, and is difficult to repeat. For example, the computer went into sleep the night before traveling. I tried to start it on a plane flight (domestic, thank god, so it wasn't a huge issue, but if it had been international that would have been a disaster) and it simply would not start. Later, on a train, I was able to plug it in and it started with no problems and showed plenty of battery life. I then put it into sleep, it went into hibernate, and I was able to start it up without being plugged into the wall when I returned home. Has anyone else encountered something similar? Are there settings I can change, or should I have it sent in for repair (also, what on earth might cause this problem? Faulty power button?)

A:T440s won't startup on battery

skander wrote:...

This is what happened to my T420.  Just about drove me nuts.  Since it would start in one power mode but not the other that proved that it couldn't be the button, right?  Another mod with more sense suggested replacing the keyboard anyway.

It was the power button.  On careful visual inspection I could see that it was slightly depressed from normal.  Either partly shorted or high resistance.  Plugging in the AC mains must have changed the voltages just enough for it to work.  Sometimes, anyway.

Not saying this weird problem is what you're seeing - but it might be.

Good luck,
Z.

Now what I'm wondering is if it is possible to replace just the LCD on a touchscreen setup. If not I'm not too concerned about the touch functionality and am all for switching to a non touch screen assembly if required. I'd like to try just switching the LCD first as it'd be cheaper. However I'm having trouble finding a lot of information on this. Anyone know where to start? Thank you!

This is probably a simple problem, but I can't figure it out. Device: T440s running Windows 10 Pro Problem(s): If I unplug it from the power adapter, re-plugging it has the following effects--it does not recognize that it is plugged in, and the red light over the 'i' on the lid repeatedly flashes a fast sequence of four short flashes followed by a brief pause. It does this until the battery drains and then it shuts down. Adding some further confusion: It will not shut down or restart when plugged in. It will sit on the blue, "Shutting Down" or "Restarting Windows" page for as long as I leave it. I have to force it to shut down by holding down the power button until it turns off. And yet further confusion: If, while it is turned off, I disconnect the external battery and plug in the adapter, I get the standard three flashes to indicate that it's charging. I can then reconnect the external battery, and it charges like normal though the light gives me an occasional double-flash as it charges and the charger gets hotter than normal. So, I'm not sure if this is a bad adapter, battery, motherboard, or something else entirely. I'd like to fix it before my Macbook wielding colleagues catch on and give me grief. Any help is much appreciated.

First off, I am an Electronics Technician by trade.  I have 25 years of experience with all kinds of electronics.  This one has me scratching my head.  This all  started because I had an issue with my touchpad so I changed it out.  During the process I removed all power including, power cord, external battery and internal battery.  Replaced the mouse pad and put everything back together.  When I went to power it up I got no response.  Here are the things I have tried. 1. Hold the power button for a minute.  Tap it 10 times then hold anothe minute.2. Remove all batteries and press the power button for 1 minute.3. Remove all batteries and the RAM module and press the power button.4. Press the reset button through the cover on the back of the machine.   5. Lastly I disconnected the CMOS batter along with all other power.  The last step actually let me me boot up my machine and everything was working like normal.  I was happy I had fixed the problem, but I didn't.  Once I shut down the machine it still will not power back up.  I have to disconnect the CMOS battery again in order for me to powe up the machine.  Once the machine comes back I updated the BIOS to the latest version and that didn't help either.  I am stumped!  Any advice that anyone can give me is greatly appreciated.

I have a T440S that is still under warantty. The screen has a bright white spot about the size of a small led. It can be easly seen on a white bachground from several feet away. On a colored screen it appears as a spot of lighten color. It can not  be seen on a black background. I do not believe that this is a dead pixel. Is this covered by the Lenovo warantty? If not, how easy is it to replace the screen. Are screen whitelisted in the Bios? Can I upgrade this to a touch screen? But after I depleted the battery 1, nothing seems to be useful in charging it and be usable again. Appreciate if there's any guidance here. Thank you.

After a while of operation the computer temp rises substantially (CPU core temp goes upto 98 deg celsius!). Mostly seen after computer goes to sleep and wakes up. How would I solve this issue?

A:Lenovo T440s CPU overheating

If you are still under warranty, call support.  (1-800-426-7378)  Don't take it apart.  If warranty has expired, the first step is to clean the vents and reset the fan with new thermal paste.  Here is the service manual:

Running into an issue where the machine completely powers down after undocking.  Drivers have been updated, battery has been swapped out and so has the docking station. Just curious if this is a board issue or a larger concern.  Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks, NALIT
