Email address affecting access of network files?

Q: Email address affecting access of network files?

I am having a problem getting full control of files on a computer on our wireless network at my job. My desktop computer is Win 8.1 and the computer I am trying to access is Win 7. It will give me read-only access, but not full control. I am pretty certain that it isn?t permissions etc set on the computer I am trying to access. This morning I brought in my personal laptop which also runs Win 8.1 and was able to get full control access of all the files in the folder I need to access.

When my desktop computer was set up, my boss put in his name and email address as the login. In having the problem I then created another user account with my name and email address at the login. It worked! I was able to get full access of the files. However the downside of doing this was that it cluttered up my machine and wanted me to go through full windows set up as it does when you add a new user, you know, desktop, settings, email, etc. So after that I deleted the new user account I created with my login and changed the login of the original account my boss created to my name and email address. It still won?t work. I am pretty confident that somewhere in the system there is still a link to my boss? email address that he used when he set up my machine. This happens to be the same email address that he uses as the login on his machine, which houses the files I need to get full control of.

As another aside, we are both linked on a Homegroup. When I go through Explorer and access the Homegroup, I am able to open the files with full control.

So what gives? Does anybody have any idea what is doing this? Is his email address still hidden somewhere in the system? I have a feeling it is because when I look at the network locations listed under My Computer and under Multimedia Devices in Devices and Printers on my personal laptop, I can see my work computer listed but it still has his email address listed with my computer name in parenthesis.

I am thinking that his email address is still in the system somewhere and that?s what?s causing my desktop to open files read-only and not with full control. So, how do I change that?

Preferred Solution: Email address affecting access of network files?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

For the past six months I’ve been experiencing very slow and unloadable or unresponsive web pages and downloading errors using (chrome, firefox or internet explorer) browsers on my main computer. This computer is directly connected to my ISP modem/router. The slowness happens even with just this computer on the network. Other devices also have connection problems be it laptop, tablet or cell phone; mine or a visitor. I’ve been through several discussions with my ISP and they always tell me the same thing every time….everything looks fine on their end, I’m getting the appropriate speed for my plan. Now, I admit I do have the lowest internet speed of 768 kbps / 384 kbps but prior to this ISP doing migration of their internet services everything was fine on my DSL with multiple devices…it was slow, but fine. I was able to accomplish things and so could others in my home. I've taken my laptop to work and it was connecting/browsing fine, brought it back home and pages barely load. Speedtest.net can't even come up. I can't drag my desktop to work so I need to know is it the computer.
I’m at the end of the patience line and wanted someone else’s point of view because I’ve ran several security, networking and utility tools trying to find out why my internet speed is now so lousy with the one computer on it. Nothing major ever comes up after the scans so now I’m at the point of firing my ISP and getting be... Read more

I do not know where else to post this comment. I posted a question relating to my lap top getting very hot and so far has received 2 answers of people trying to help. Yesterday I received in my email a message with the HP logo indicating that if I could not get an answer from the community forum to contact 1-844-468-7339 toll free for additional assistance. I checked that number in google and does not seem to be part of HP. So my question is how an entity that appears to be an unrelated party can have access to my email address through HP. Thank you, AG

I have a very nice database which allows me to run a community theater box office very efficiently (and for which I got incredible help from this group), including the generating of email for various purposes. I am now adding pay pal invoicing, and as a result have established a new email address specifically for dealing with pay pal. However, I do everything from my home computer so I would like to keep my personal email address as the default.

Right now, when I generate a theater email I have to manually select the theater email address as the account to use. I'm wondering if there is a way for me to set the email address from which to send in the vba.

Just a few hours ago WinPartorl alerted me that something was trying to change my HOST file, but i declined the permission. Shortly after I was booted from my gmail account when I was reading my emails. It said that someone logged in from a different location.

Also, this past week my fan had been acting really weird, started to make a lot of sounds, like the fan speed tripled or something. I had scanned my computer with SpyBot and AVG scanners and everything came up clean.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I am a newbie and i am using Access 2003 in a Windows XP environment. I have a database set up that will send a report when I click a button. As long as the email address is hard coded in the SendObject method, everything works find. My problem is that I want to have the code to automatically pull the email address from the form because the report will be sent to different recipients based on the location denoted in the form. Is it possible to capture the email address from an active subform? If so, do you have a sample of the code? Thanks!

A:Capture Email address from Access 2003 Subform When Emailing a Report

knowledgeSeeker1, welcome to the Forum.
Yes you can do exactly what you want.
Can you provide your current VBA code for the SendObject, with a Dummy email address in it?
The code to refer to the form's email would be
Forms![Formname]![Subformname]![email field name]
where Formname is the actual name of your Main form, Subformname is the actual name of your subform and email field name is the actual name that contains the email address.

Hey there.
I've encountered a problem when connecting my laptop to my Xbox 360 recently; it no longer allows any connection to the network. I use an Ethernet cable to connect them and often use it to then watch videos or play music from my laptop to my Xbox with either the default Xbox 'System Video Player' or Windows Media Center (and have been doing so for quite a while), though it's suddenly no longer working.

As far as I can tell so far, the problem arose straight after my laptop updated through Windows Update, though I'm unable to use System Restore. I've tried everything I could think of to fix the problem; diagnosing it, disabling it then enabling it once more, configuring the Ethernet cable - everything, but nothing seems to be working.
When I use the 'Test PC Connection' on my Xbox it fails while trying to connect to the actual network, and when I click 'More Info' I get "IP Address Error" telling me to unplug the router/modem for 30 seconds, but that hasn't worked.
I've seen other threads similar to this before where people tell them to manually set the IP address and such, but I don't know how to do it on my Xbox (or on my laptop). I have no idea what the Subnet Mask or Gateway Address would be, so I'm completely befuddled.

Also, in the Network and Sharing Center, the network for my Xbox comes up as 'Unidentified network', 'Public network' and says 'No Internet Access', but it always says that anyway. When I open up the status of the Local Area Connect... Read more

I'm trying to set up a wireless network with an Actiontec DSL modem/router. I have internet access on the computer connected to the modem, but can't connect on the other two PCs, despite the fact that they both say they're connected to the network. One is a Sony Vaio, the other is a wimpy little eMachines t1115. The Vaio is wireless ready, but keeps telling me that a network cable is unplugged. The eMachines is connected with a Belkin USB wireless adapter. Cannot ping either PC; both have weird IP addresses...169.254.x.y. Cannot ping router/modem from either machine.

Many thanks for any help!!!

A:Solved: Cannot renew IP address/access wireless network

The "weird IP addresses...169.254.x.y" says that the PCs getting these are unable to contact the DHCP server (the router). Automatic Private IP Addressing APIPA is a feature of Windows-based operating systems and included in Windows 98, ME, 2000, and XP. The range of IP addresses (from through used for APIPA is reserved by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). Any IP addresses within this range are not used on the Internet.

The PC that does have internet connectivity is that a wired connection (you don't say). The two PCs that are getting the wierd IPs are both wireless connections. Yes?

For a wireless link check the following:

- SSID used on router is matched in the adaptor cards
- if using MAC filtering on the router to control access that correct MACs for the PCs are being used to allow that access
- if encryption is being used that the key(s) have been entered correctly on the router/wireless access point and all adaptor cards.

Since our company changed routers, every couple of days, we briefly for just a few minutes, at random, times lose access to a key shared computer.
When we are not able to access by name, we ARE able to access by IP Address.

Within a few minutes or less, everything is fine.
This is occurring on up to 4 computers, but not at the same time.  When one is unable to access, other's still can.

Any suggestions?

I have 5 Win7 computers connected to the same homegroup/workgroup via a Cisco Linksys E1200. All four computers are HPs of various makes, 3 laptops (one of them is a $600 brick) and 2 desktops. Any computer that is awake and online, shows up (with its name) in Network on the other machines. However, double-clicking to view files on these computers returns the following message:

Windows cannot access \\COMPNAME

Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To
try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose.
Details: Error code: 0x80070035 - The network path was not found.

Diagnose, as expected, did nothing. However, here's the fun bit - when I try to access files on other computers by browsing their IP address, everything works perfectly. For now, anyway. I'm expecting a sudden degradation any day now.

Is there something I can change either on my systems or on the router itself that will enable me to view files on the other computers by name?

A:Files on network computers visible ONLY if accessed via IP address

Hi pikalax,

From the computer that you're trying to access using it's computer name rather than it's IP Address, try the following:

Turn off Password Protected Sharing.
Disable Password Protected Sharing — MAXIMUMpcguides – Windows 7 tips, tricks, help, and how-to guides

Click on the Start Orb and type secpol.msc press enter then navigate to: > Local Policies > Security Options, locate 'Network Access: Sharing and Security Model for Local Accounts, then choose Guest only and not Classic.

Now, try it again if you can accessing again by typing in the Computer Name from another Computer of course.

Alternatively, it's also easier to map a network drive and create a shortcut on the computer's Desktop. You may do this by using either the Computer Name or IP Address.

I am troubleshooting a peculiar problem we are having with email. I'm posting it to the networking forum because it has to do with one certain network.

I had the email host setup a test account for me to use. I have tried logging in to the email account on four different networks. On three of the four networks, I can successfully log in to webmail. On the fourth network, I cannot. Why would one network block access to this certain pop host? I am running an Apple Airport Extreme router, and I have not set it to close any ports--at least not knowingly .

Anyone have experience getting pop mail to work on a network? Thank you.

I want to 'network' access to email, so that everyone in the office can access the general email account.

I am running Outlook express. I thought all I would need to do would be store the emails on the hard drive we use for a server and change the 'store folder' on the options of OE (on each individual machine) to point to this drive. This would also mean that all email is backed up.

Looks like it wont let me change it to a drive which is on another computer though.

Is there any other way of getting around this?

I just ran Norton Power Eraser and it said I have Bad Status with a risk called  alsysio64.sys  but a google search indicates that this is a legitimate thing. Why does Norton want me to remove it?

Hello chums

I have a customer database with all of the tools to send emails to recipients from the database. That works great and, using "ClickYes", the level of unmanned sending gets me round spamming limits at the ISP level too.

My latest request is to be able to add PDF (or other) attachments to the email.

In my VBA code, I have a snippet of code that says:
With oMail
.to = strEmailAddress
.body = Me.txtEmailMessageContent.Value
.Subject = Me.txtEmailSubjectMatter.Value
.Attachments.Add ("C:\Documents and Settings\User\Desktop\testdocument.pdf")
End With
With this code in place, Access sends the email to the variable 'strEmailAddress' with the attachment shown in the path, and hardcoded in VBA its great.

I'd like however to be able to navigate to the file I want to attach, so its not dependent on the filename being coded.

I once created some VB code (as opposed to VBA) that opens a dialogue box to let me nagivate to the file I want to choose, but, before I go around the houses, would that VB code (written in VB6) be suitable for my Access concept? Will it drop straight into my VBA?

Hope VB/VBA gurus can guide me here!

None of that worked. What is my next step to fixing my problem?

A:Solved: Yahoo email unable to insert address from address book

Concerning my post above: I turned on my older XP computer and I had no problem with inserting an address from the Yahoo! address book.

I compared all my settings in both computers and noticed that I had different settings relating to how pop-ups are handled. XP reminded me that the address book takes the form of a pop-up. On my Vista I had pop-ups opening up (?) in a webpage. That is the page which came up blank. After I have corrected the settings, I no longer have a problem.

I am using Outlook 2003 and run Windows XP.

When I create a new message I begin typing the name of the recipient and I would like it to match up with an address I have in my Outlook contact list. However, it does not read from there. It only seems to look at addresses that I have already sent to in the past. How can I get it to read from the address book? If I click on "TO" or "CC" it brings up another window with a list of addresses from my contact list. From there I can have it pull from the list. I would like to be able to do it withot the extra step.

A:Solved: Outlook 2003 dowes not automatically pull address from address book for email

That is how autocomplete works, from used addresses stored in the NK2 file.

When I transfer/share files from one computer to another on my network, my mouse gets extremely slow during the transfer process. If I transfer a file, upon completion of the transfer my mouse will return to normal. If I interrupt or cancel the file transfer, then my mouse has to reconnect. My question would be, is it possible that these things are sharing the same resources, MAC addresses, or something of that nature? and if so,how could I find out and change them? Or am I looking in the wrong direction all together? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am facing a desperate problem, hope someone can offer some expert insight.

I have about 50 PCs in my LAN, all XP Pros running Dynamic IPs. Recently (about two weeks ago), one PC got disconnected from the LAN (while actively in use) with the onboard NIC showing "Limited or no Connectivity".

On client PCs side
-Checked AV, shows updated one-day ago, last scan a day ago was clean.
-Ipconfig /all shows a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx IP which tells me the NIC hardware part is working fine.
-Ipconfig /release can actually release the IP to
-Ipconfig /renew got hung for a while before an "DHCP server not contactable/available" error appears.
-Doing Ipconfig /release and then /renew on another working machine proved that DHCP server is indeed still working fine.
-Installed another NIC on PCI, it was detected by Dev Mgr but still cannot grab any IP. Setting a static IP for the NIC still showed "Limited or no Connectivity".
-Installed a Wireless Adapter (USB), still cannot grab any IP.
-Did a ipconfig /flushdns, didn't help either.
-Downloaded a patch from Microsoft for "NICs giving Limited or no Connectivity errors", didn't help at all.
-Tried downgrading from Domain to Workgroup, can downgrade but cannot upgrade to Domain again - "Domain controller not found" error. But other machines can see the Domain just fine.
-Unplugged the PC from the network, set it aside for servicing and the next day, before I even tried any... Read more

Hi my name is Mike,
I have been trying to clear up a problem with a windows 7 machine i have that may have the Zero Access virus.  Common problems/ error messages are ...
after a file downloads from internet, stops at 99% then "this file contains a virus and has been deleted"
windows firewall has been disabled "windows cannot change security settings error code - 0x80070424"
very occasional blue screen- not sure if virus is causing that
and other things that are security/firewall related.
to be honest, i have run rkill to stop malware processes, and scanned with Malwarebytes to no avail. original scan when i first downloaded mwb showed a few things, so i quarantined/removed?  but i guess they could be fake ?
so i would like to try to start fresh, and maybe we can go through some logs and stuff to get rid of this aweful headache.
Thank you so much for your help.

Hello...hoping someone can help me solve this

Today I tried using my Firefox browser to check out facebook, yahoo fantasy sports, and some google searches but was unable to access any of the pages. Seems like the browser is stuck trying to load these pages while other sites seem to work fine. The same issue occurs using IE.

I noticed a pop-up ad at a very odd time and also have had a McAfee virus warning pop up and be contained/removed recently and I've come to terms with idea that the browsing issues are likely connected to a virus or malware issue. I'm hoping for some guidance in fixing the problem if anyone is willing to help me out.

Thanks in advance...

This problem only affects firefox running on windows 2k. It has happened in the last 2weeks on my home computer, and in the last few days on my work computer (which is in a different location).

My wife's computer which is on the same network as my home computer is not affected.

The every so often one of the firefox tabs I have in my starting home page diverts to another page, seemingly at random. If I clear the browser cache then clear the dns cache then restart firefox it usually solves the problem but sometimes I have to reboot.

I have already run (up to date):
Nod32 antivirus
A squared
Reg Supreme (registry cleaner)

I then ran defrag and check disk then ran all the above again.

I have run DSS on my work computer and the results from main.txt are here:

Both PC's on Win7, file sharing on. Was able to access files fine but suddenly stopped working, times out when I try to expand the shared folder. The other PC and the shared folders show up on both ends but I cannot see the files. I can ping both ways either to the IP or hostname. Sometimes the files WILL show up after several mins but when I try to open them it just hangs. I reset the router (powered off/on) but no luck. Also tried rebooting both PC's into other versions of Win7 that I know worked with the network but same problems. The common element here seems to be the ADSL router??? Internet access coincidently is very slow (almost a minute to load a page)

Hi Can someone please help a "silver surfer" please?

I want to be able to access and change files on my main pc, from my laptop which is in a different room, same with my wife's pc as well......

Each time I go the network, I can see the computers, but each time I want to access files it comes up asking for password and user name.

I have never set a user name or password and it is confusing the hell out of me to sort this out....

do I have to make sure the files are in a particular place, and saved in that place all the time?

can I not make "my documents" available to my wife and my laptop, and vice versa if they are swtiched on?

There must be a way to share our individual files and make them read write for ourselves??

many thanks for the knowledge........ please remember it is for idiot that knows very little about networking

This is sharing and permissions 101 but this tutorial may help you figure it out. If both machines are Windows 7 then setting up a Homegroup is a good option, second link down.

Hi, just joined the forum and hope someone can help me with a network problem.

We have a computer which serves as our main server and all our computers connect to the server with a static IP address via ethernet. Server IP is and other computers are,3 and so on

Our server has Windows 7 along with 3 other pc and 1 Vista laptop. All computers connect just fine and can even use the printers, etc.

Recently, we added another another Vista laptop and tried to connect to the server. We've changed the IP address and everything. It can even see all the computers connected to the network. But when we open the Users folder or any shared folder, it would deny us access.
Error 0x8007005 - Access Denied.

What did we do wrong?

Access to the new laptop from other computers in the network is fine. It can even open the shared folder with no problem.

Using the command prompt, I've also tried to ping the server and it got a reply so it's connected.

I don't know much about networking. Just what I learned from trial and error. A colleague helped set up the network for the main server and and taught me how to setup the other pcs before. Unfortunately, he doesn't work here anymore so I just followed what I did before but it's not working.

Help please! Thanks!

Hello wicked271 and welcome to the forums

Try creating a new account with the same username and password on all of your machines, then use that account to connect. I don't know why your laptop doesn't like the connection, but apparently this work around will solve your problem.

I'm just getting started with the server side of IT. I know the nic card will auto negotiate speed depending on the capability of the other device it's talking to on the network.

We have installed a gigabit network, but haven't upgraded everyone's to gigabit nic cards. We have 300 users on our network and multiple switches , and some are still using 10baset nic cards.
Here is my question: If I have one user using 10baset, would they slow the entire network or just the switch they are using??

Thanks for the help

Alright, this is an issue that I've only noticed recently...

Every time I plug in my charger OR turn off the "Battery Saver" feature (using Windows 10), wifi seems to become slower?websites tend to load slower in general. When I have my laptop running on the battery, and with Battery Saver on, everything loads faster in my browser. I've tried changing power plans and the advanced settings to no avail.

I initially thought there was a setting that caused network speed performance to decrease, but other forums have also suggested that it had to do something with the CPU. It may affect more than just my wifi, not really sure.

So yeah, I'm really confused as to what the problem is. I know one thing though, it has to do with the battery.

A friend's Toshiba laptop had Antivirus XP 2008. We thought we'd cleaned it properly, but it's still running slowly. She's been unable to stay connected to her Netgear wireless network. Also, when she's connected, others cannot stay connected. IPs keep dropping.

I thought it might be her network and brought the laptop over to my linksys network. Same issue on my network, and I can't connect while her wireless adapter is on. Turn it off, no problem.

We've got AVG running, and multiple scans havent' found ANYTHING. The laptop is still very slow.

I've used Castlecops' HijackThis explanation, and I can't find anything amiss in the the log nor in the startup.

Anybody help me where to look further? Thanks so much!

Hi there,
I had a friends laptop on my network recently and found that he was infected.  We did some scans to try and fix him up and then he left.  But ever since his laptop was introduced to the network a good majority of my PCs, at least four, now will have explorer.exe hangs where I have to manually close explorer and then re-start it.  I have noticed that the activity light on my Cable Modem as well as my router and switches seem to be hammering hard.  The hard-lined computers all seem to be sending data constantly based on the indicator light on the NIC.  Accessing network shares has been an issue, too.  Currently I have removed all computers from the network save for the one I am on right now.  I have run Malwarebtes, MS Security essentials, and combofix and really haven't found much of note and that hasn't really stopped the issue.  So, I am just wondering if anyone can help me ascertain whether or not I am really infected.  I greatly appreciate the help.  BTW, all PCs are running windows 7.  Thanks.

Hello! I noticed a few days ago that my laptop was spawning random tabs that have a popup window telling me to update my Windows 7 or other programs. This has made my Steam completely unusable because it will immediately pop up when trying to access the community page, and cannot be closed. I scanned it with Malwarebytes, Avast!, Spybot Search & Destroy, and Ad-aware, and nothing was found.
I told my father about this and he told me he had the same problem on his tablet, which is also connected to the network. He had to wipe it completely. Last night, I used my phone on the network, and it has also received popups telling me to download something. I turned off the network and do not appear to get them anymore. I scanned it with mobile Avast! and found nothing.
Finally, I am using my desktop computer which is also connected to the network, and am receiving the same popups. I don't know the exact source, so I'm not sure how we could be go about cleaning it off.
My other computer is using Windows 7, this one is using Windows XP, and my phone/tablet are both running android systems. This appears to affect any browser.
Any help would be great! I am having problems finding someone with the same issue, especially since it affects the network so it's hard to find the exact source, and it is also affecting our Android systems!
