Internal window:svchost.exe - application error

Q: Internal window:svchost.exe - application error

Hi there,I have clients laptop which gives me this error. The exception privileged instruction.(Oxc0000096) occured in the application at location 0x4d510afc. Click Ok or terminate. After that I get window saying Generic host process for Win32 services encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for inconvience. Once we click for them, the system doesnot respond, none of the icons or anything is accessible. I was able to scan using MBAM and it came with the clean system. I was not able to run online scanners like Eset or Trendmicro House call as they just crash the IE.Here is the DDS log for it.DDS (Ver_09-12-01.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Owner at 17:18:25.21 on 08/01/2010Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.13 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_10Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.3.1252.44.1033.18.2046.1586 [GMT 0:00]AV: AntiVir Desktop *On-access scanning enabled* (Updated) {AD166499-45F9-482A-A743-FDD3350758C7}AV: Enterprise Suite *On-access scanning enabled* (Updated) {8C341646-C3D0-4B45-8959-08AD347057A3}FW: Enterprise Suite *enabled* {B4185A1B-1127-44A9-8726-942320C98CE0}============== Running Processes ===============C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost -k DcomLaunchsvchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcssvchost.exesvchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\WINDOWS\PixArt\PAC7302\Monitor.exeC:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exeC:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\msnmsgr.exeC:\Program Files\Registry Mechanic\RegMech.exeC:\Program Files\Digital Line Detect\DLG.exesvchost.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exeC:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exeC:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jqs.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7DEBUG\MDM.EXEC:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvc32.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\PC Tools\sMonitor\StartManSvc.exeC:\Program Files\Trusteer\Rapport\bin\RapportMgmtService.exeC:\Program Files\Microsoft\Search Enhancement Pack\SeaPort\SeaPort.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe -k imgsvcC:\WINDOWS\system32\dwwin.exeC:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exeC:\Program Files\Trusteer\Rapport\bin\RapportService.exeE:\dds.scr============== Pseudo HJT Report ===============uInternet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.localBHO: Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper: {06849e9f-c8d7-4d59-b87d-784b7d6be0b3} - Preferred Solution: Internal window:svchost.exe - application error

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi sreez,Please refrain from making any changes to your system (scanning or running other tools, updating Windows, installing applications, removing files, etc.) from now on as it might interfere with our fixes. Please let me know in your next reply if you agree with this.Though the infection is known let's do it properly. Post the Attach.txt too. Also please either follow the Preparation guide and post the RR log or post a GMER log.

Hello, starting about a week or so ago, a few minutes after I start up my computer (a Dell Inspiron E1705 running Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3) a window pops up with the title: "AXWIN Frame Window: svchost.exe - Application Error." In the box is written:

"The instruction at "0x02b5f7a0" referenced memory at "0x02b5f7a0". The memory could not be "written".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program

As time goes by, more and more of these windows appear. They remain on top of all other windows and, usually, if either the OK or the Cancel button is pushed a warning window appears telling me my computer will restart in a minute, which it does. Also, by unknown causes, my hard drive is filling up. There wasn't much room to begin with, but up to several Gigs will fill up seemingly without cause. Other than this, the computer seems to work fine--I can move the error window to the side and continue to use it. I don't know if these problems are caused by malware or not. Help would be greatly appreciated. Rygy

First may I say thank you, to all of you for what you do. I think this is honorable and speaks volumes of your personal character for you to take your personal time to help individuals like myself. I received a pop-up stating that I had all types of infections on my laptop. I immediately used my MALWAREbytes Antimaleware (free version) program to run a scan. Nothing detected. Then I ram my AVG (free version) Anti-Virus program and it also detected nothing. Then I ran the Spybot Search & Destroy (free version) and it also detected nothing. After seeing the pop-up of the ISO2010 repeatedly, I went to google to search for a removal method and noticed that I was being redirected. I would get the opportunity to see the appropriate links, but once I clicked on those links, I was taken to a similar site sometimes, and other times I was taken to a completely different site. However, I noticed that if I clicked on the link within google's search engine, usually about the 3rd or 4th time on the same link, I would be then connected to the appropriate site. One site did share with me how to remove the ISO2010 program by going into the files section and just deleting that file and 3-4 other files named ISO2010. That all worked fine until a day or two later I received this svchost.exe - Application Error. This error will stay on the desktop until I click on the only two options it provides you, but no matter which one you click on, it starts an automatic shut down/restart of my lap... Read more

I have been able to stop the shutdown by using Run Shutdown -a.Other symptoms earlier included not being able to do an Alt/Ctrl/Del, followed by an hourglass. Ok mashenden lets pick up where we left off.If you are are using a CD Emulator (Daemon Tools, Alchohol 120%, Astroburn, AnyDVD) be aware that they use hidden drivers with rootkit-like techniques to hide from other applications. When dealing with a malware infection, CD Emulators can interfere with investigative tools producing misleading or inaccurate scan results, false detection of legitimate files, cause unexpected crashes, BSODs, and general 'dross' which often makes it hard to differentiate between malicious rootkits and the legitimate drivers used by CM Emulators. Since CD Emulators use a hidden driver which can be seen as a rootkit and can interfere with investigative tools or cause other problems, it is recommended that they be removed or disabled until disinfection is completed. Please download DeFogger by jpshortstuff and save it to your desktop.Double click DeFoggerexe to run the tool. The application window will appear.Click the Disable button to disable your CD Emulation driversClick Yes to continue.A 'Finished!' message will appear.Click OK...DeFogger will now ask to reboot the machine...click OK. If not, reboot manually.Do not re-enable these drivers until instructed or your system has been cleaned.IMPORTANT! If you receive an error message while running DeFogger, please post the log defogger_disable which will appear on your desktop. Please download ComboFix from one of these locations and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!Note: If you download... Hello all. I read a few posts about this error and have tried av scans, malware scans, etc. Cant check disk for errors...it will not finish.
I am trying to fix this for a friend.

Apparently for about a week now, after starting up, this window opens "AXWIN Frame Window: svchost.exe - Application error"
"The intsruction at '0x010ef7ao' referenced memory at '0x010ef7ao'. The memory could not be "written".
Click OK to terminate the program
Click CANCEL to debug the program

If i click OK, the internet stops working, if i click CANCEL the computer shuts off.

I tried searching the internet for '0x010ef7ao' but nothing comes up.

Any suggestions, other than a reformat?

I am having a problem with the following error:

AXWIN Frame Window: svchost.exe - Application Error, etc.
Generic Host Process for Win 32 Services, Windows has closed this program. Data Execution Prevention etc.
System by NT/Authority/System DCOM Server Process, etc.

Then the PC begins to shutdown. I have been able to stop the shutdown by using Run Shutdown -a.

Other symptoms earlier included not being able to do an Alt/Ctrl/Del, followed by an hourglass. In the lower right I could see that Task Manager had opened but there was no way to get it on the screen to review/stop processes. End result - a hard reboot was needed to go further.

System restores even back to the initial restore point (which was only about 4 months ago) have not been successful.

I am to the point of wanting to run combofix (I have never done this before) but the warnings seemed very clear that I should post and get help first.

Thank you in advance.

A:AXWIN Frame Window: svchost.exe - Application Error

Using Norton, I disabled svchost and all is good (with the huge exception being I cannot get out to the Interent), but the PC is not autoshutting down or getting hung up with the hour glass and Alt/Ctrl/Del always works. Point being, it must be some rogue program that is using svchost to send info over the internet as well as rendering my PC undable to exit without a firm reboot.

Norton, Defender, Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyWare have not removed this problem.

Any ideas? Can someone help me use ComboFix?

I'm getting consistent/regular application errors involving "svchost.exe_SysMain" failures. A typical event message looks like the following:

I then went to GoBack but it would not run giving me a message that Symantec Integrator had a problem. I shut down and when I restarted I had only yje background on my desktop *no icons). I was able to get into DOS and get XPrunning with DOS commands. I'm not sure what's going on with my comp....I would consider myself an above average user. I mean I can format and reinstall windows myself and I have edited my registry file if that means anything! lol Ok anyways, on to my problem.....I have one hunch as to why I'm getting an error message from Windows Media Player (besides the fact that it's a Microsoft product). I just recently formatted my HD because there was something wrong with my internet connection, nothing related with my internet would connect. I tried looking for the problem myself and I also tried phoning my ISP and they had no better solutions than what I had tried, so I had to format and reinstall windows(which fixed the problem). About two days went by and I was having troubles with Internet Explorer so I downloaded Netscape Navigator 7.2 and since that time, I've had troubles with WMP. Everytime I load WMP, I get the error message
Quote:

An internal application error has occured

. Now I'm not sure wheter WMP is just acting up because I've installed another web browser or not, but that's what has brought me here! Please please please, somebody help me! Oh.....I'm sorry for this post being so long, but I just thought that it would be nice to fill you in on my prior problem! Thanx for taking the time to read my problem!

A:An internal application error has occured in WMP 9 & 10

Have a look here Why am I getting an internal application error trying to launch the player?
A: If the player is properly installed (and a simple reinstall of the player on top of itself will ensure that), then the only way you can possibly get this error is if something external to the player is not functioning fully and thus is breaking the player. You probably wouldn't notice that problem with other applications as the player uses more advanced interfaces than those other applications use.
That being said, if you installed a "codec pack", that's quite likely the source of your problem. Never install any codec packs unless you specifically know that the company in question is guaranteed to be reliable.
If you did not install a codec pack, this is almost 99% certainly a driver issue. If "mplayer2.exe" is functioning on your system (which would ensure that the video and sound drivers are working largely correctly), then it's most likely the CD-ROM drivers. This should fix you up, then. If not, it'd be time to contact actual technical support.

You can find this answer at this website http://www.zachd.com/pss/pss.html#errcodes, go to the left side of page and click on error codes second from bottom and then look for the paragraph mentioned above. There you will find how to contact technical support. See last sentence for reference to support. Hope it helps.

Just did a fresh install of windows 2000 and I had to upgrade the wmp to the latest version so I could listen to a certain radio station. Since that upgrade I now get "An Internal Application Error has Occured". I have already followed the directions on the Microsoft site to register the dll's and edit the registry but it has not helped.

I've searched the net and I've seen this problem a lot XP but never for windows 2000. Maybe that is why the microsoft instructions had no effect?

I've uninstalled and reinstalled, I've reverted back to the version that came with the OS (which works fine) and tried upgrading from there but still it won't work.

Anyone have any other ideas?

A:Solved: Internal Application Error has Occured

I solved this problem by deleting media player (the latest version that didn't work), rebooted then ran windows update and downloaded the latest version from there and now it works fine.

The person using this computer in my office went to a website and downloaded it manually...could have gotten the wrong one for the OS, I'm not sure but in any case it works now.

About 2 weeks ago out of the blue, many things satrted going wrong with my pc. I rebooted and got this message on startup and it hasn't gone since and everyday I discover things that wont work the way they did before this error message appeared.
The full error message is -
the exception unknown software exception(0xc000049) occurred in the application atlocation 0x751b3cbb

I've googled and read soooo many steps to remedy this problem but nothing so far has worked.
One of the main concerns is that I have no audio when it comes to youtube or emails with video applications but media player works fine.
It tells me I have no audio drivers but when I try and get into anything to do with my system, a no dll error message appears or the we've encountered a problem and need to close, debug blah blah.
I've ran anti-virus, I've defragmentted, I've updated everything that it will let me update.

I'm not 100% sure but it seems that perhaps this error has something to do with a windows xp pack 3 update and symantec anti-virus?

Please, I just need to know how to get rid of this and restore my system to full working order.

Appreciate any help.

Keep getting this on start up. All this started after installing windows xp service pack 3. For a while there were A LOT of them but now I'm only getting one or two at start up.
As follows:

"svchost.exe application error instruction at 0x012e06d1
referenced memory at 0x00000000 the memory could not be written"

I've done malware scans, virus scans, spyware scans, defragged the hard drive, cleaned the cache, etc.
The cpu is running at 100% most of the time as shown in the task

Computer is 10 minutes or more starting up, and several minutes launching apps.
Don't know what else to check.
By the way, I'm not any good at computers and I don't have a very good grasp on these things so any help needs to be in beginner terms if possible.
Thanks

This error message pops up every time I boot my machine and causes software conflicts that makes it necessary to reboot 12 to 15 times a day. Naturally, this gets pretty tiring after a while. I tried to do a search here for "svchost.exe" and got so many threads that it's impossible to read through them. I also downloaded the FREE (HaHa, HeeHee) "RegCure" program and ran their hour-long scan which resulted in 1,537 errors that need fixing, whatever than means. It then told me I had to pay $39.90 for their "registered" version in order to see the naked lady inside the tent (yes, that's what it amounts to.....a cheap carnival come-on to fleece the chumps).

Question: anyone have an idea on how to make this error message and problem go away? I'm on AOL's "Premium Account" automatic download and installation of software updates. These take place several times a week. About once a month or so one of these downloads will trigger this svchost.exe - Application Error problem.

My most sincere appreciation in advance,

--Larry

I had this, solved by turning off automatic windows updates. Not sure what causes it but i just turn it off and manually check for updates once a week now.

I have a dell insperion 8600 laptop that I had to recently do an XP Professional reinstallation on. Everything is working fine with the exception of the svchost.exe Application error 0x009d06d1 referenced memory at 0x00000000 Memory could not be written.

I ran a registry clean, no luck. I also tried to reset the automatic updates in case that was the problem, no luck.

I found some posts on the net for the same error that were never answered since last year. any thoughts?

Hi, and welcome to TechSupportForum

Well if nobody had posted for a year at the forum I would recommend Microsoft Support if you are in the USA. This is an update thing since svchost.exe is used to update with Microsoft Servers. Call 1-800-MICROSOFT and follow talk with a representative about this problem

I posted this problem in the Windows XP section,

and was told to re-post it here (after i ran the suggestion Windows Automatic Update fix, which didn;t solve the problem). I note that I have run a lot of malware, virus and rootkit scans that came up clean since encountering the problem, so my problem might or might not be traceable to system infection. In any case, I followed instructions and below is DDS.txt plus attaches is Attach.zip. All help is greatly appreciated.

Are you able to log into Safe Mode and/or Safe Mode with Networking using the Advanced Boot Options?

Access the Windows Advanced Boot Options:Press F8 every second or every half second when your system first turns on or restarts. Some BIOS systems may not recognize the F8 being pressed unless it is pressed very rapidly. Others require the F8 key to be pressed with a longer interval in between. You may have to try different methods of pressing F8 after the Power On Self Test (POST) screen in order to reach the Advanced Boot Options screen. For reference: the POST screen generally has the name of your motherboard (ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, etc.) or the name of your system's manufacturer (HP, DELL, Toshiba, etc.) as an image/logo or in text as it proceeds through the test, and it appears just prior to seeing the Windows logo for the Windows loading process.

Also, let us know if you have the option to Repair your computer within the Advanced Boot Options.

I have no idea what the problem could possibly be; it COULD be the work of some virus/worm/whatever, but I'm not sure. I'm using Windows XP Media Center on a Toshiba Satellite A105... I don't have a lot of options. Reformatting is not one of them. I have a lot (hundreds of gigs) of important files that I simply cannot lose just because svchost decided to crash one day.

Note: I have no access to my desktop files or taskbar when running in regular XP. I can open task manager, but windows explorer also crashes after svchost, and for some reason, the process becomes fairly slow and prone to crashing and freeze-ups. Starting cmd in regular XP is possible, but the actual launching of files is the process that seems useless, and only seems like the time is worth it in safe mode; though, svchost also crashes in safe mode and safe mode with networking, but not with the command line... I can run programs fine in any safe mode, but I don't have access to the internet. I can also access the advanced windows options menu, but I don't know if I need to use it, or what to use out of that list. I can't do an online scan or anything. I can transfer files from this computer onto a CD and run whatever is on it, so...

Help?

I have Windows XP Service Pack 2.

Recently, I had some virus or spyware that was playing audio commercials in the background sometimes. It was weird. I would see variously named things running and close them and it would go away.

This morning, my AVG Virus program found a virus and I clicked 'heal.' It said I needed to restart the computer for it to work. I did. When I turned it back on, I got several repeated windows saying:

No matter which I click, I must click it like 10 times for it to go away. It comes up periodically when I try to open some programs or directories.

On top of that, most programs will not open. Only notepad, IE and Firefox works. Media Player, image viewer, etc., do not.

Also, my task bar looks grey like old Win98 style and I cannot connect to the internet. When I go to "Network Connections" in the Control Panel I get "The Network Connections Folder was unable to retrieve the list of network adapters on your machine. Please make sure that the Network Connections Service is enabled and running."

According to Microsoft: "svchost.exe is a generic host process name for services that run from dynamic-link libraries"

Just something I found. This is kind of frightening. You really don't want a dynamic-link library (DLL) problem. It can be a long and sometimes expensive fix.

Also, if you are using it for work, did you have an IT guy in the office who knows more about the computer you are using check it out for you? Sorry, just asking.

Having done a security cleanup an error is still persisting at certain times usually now upon shutting down, starting up. In particular windows always says there's updates to install upon shutting down, but it does not install or shut down, it gets stuck and I have to turn it off holding the power button.

"svchost.exe application error. the instruction at "0x745f2780" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be read. OK to terminate program, cancel to debug." OK terminating usually disables running standard programs requiring reboot, cancel usually not so.

In admin tools > event viewer > system - I have:

"21/2 - a service control error 7023, windows update agent 20, win defend 2001"

Then some older entries by days which I can also note, quite a few though! Also my sound/video devices keep getting disabled quite often, I have to re-install the drivers to get them back. From the security cleanup I was advised to turn of system restore to clean all previous restores, so have none to return to. I have built up a lot of software, settings and more so really want to try and fix the problems instead of re-installing. Thanks in advance for all help in this, I will provide information and do as I'm told to do to try and troubleshoot, rectify the problems.

Do a Repair Install, you will not lose any of your programs or data.

Configure your computer to start from the CD-ROM drive. Then insert your Windows XP Setup CD, and restart your computer.

1.When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.

2.Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen.

3.Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.

4.In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.

5.Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.

6.Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.

If you have xp sp2 installed it needs to be incorporated into your xp disk or it will not offer the repair option only the clean install.

I often get the error message: svchost.exe - Application Error The detail of the message reads:

The instruction at “0x00cc96bc” referenced memory at “0x00000000”. The memory could not be “written”.

When this appears, my system grinds to a halt until I select one of these choices:

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program

It appears in Task Manager as the tenth iteration of svchost.exe, usually showing about 6,000K of Mem Usage. I've searched through a number of fora and FAQ elsewhere, but never found a fix that is directly on point and works. I've seen some comments that relate this to McAfee products, which I do use. Part of the troubleshooting problem is that the error's appears to be random. I can't connect it to any particular program usage. It may be tied to some start up function since, at times, it will appear when Windows starts up and the blue "click on your account icon" screen is displayed. Both IE-8 and FireFox-3.6 run very sluggishly when during a session in which this error message appears. The only thing I've done that works is to reboot or shutdown and start up until I find a session that works properly and does not display the error.

Any ideas would be helpful. I grew up in the DOS world, and I can follow directions, but I'm not equipped to dive deeply into programming stuff.

Thanks for your guidance.
