UC Berkeley student and I'm supposed to be writing my thesis which is due soon (tomorrow actually), but am instead entirely inconvenienced by all the computer virus issues I'm running into. I need a solution SOON. I downloaded Avast while in Safe Mode and then had it run prior to restarting my laptop in regular mode and that seemed to solve the bulk of my issues. I've tried everything, including various scanners like Avast, Win Patrol, SpyDoc, ComboFixer, GoRedFix, and more but many don't catch whatever it is and others that do detect it just can't seem to get rid of it...I had a huge mess of problems and I think they are solved except for these: 1-Google searches are redirected, unless I "ctrl" click cashe several times at once. In that case usually one of the pages will be a proper page instead of a scam search site or a random junk site.2-OpenOffice docs aren't opening. (They did right after I first ran Avast, but not any more.)3-This virus somehow crept over to my boyfriend's computer. He hadn't downloaded any programs all month, but yesterday his Google searches began being redirected too and his computer exhibits everything I mentioned in problem 1 but not 2. All of this started for me a weeks and 2 days ago. My professor said I needed to submit my thesis in Word 2003 which I don't have and haven't needed throughout all of my time at UC Berkeley, and really won't really need again after I graduate. A classmate showed me that he got his MS Word from isohunt. (Beginning of the end...) I stupidly decided I'd try the same.So here I am. As if wrapping up my thesis wasn't stressful enough, all of this is truly blowing my mind right now. Please help me solve this so I can get back to my thesis and graduate next month!HJT Log:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 2:48:55 PM, on 4/29/2009Platform: Windows Vista (WinNT 6.00.1904)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16830)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\Windows\system32\Dwm.exeC:\Windows\Explorer.EXEC:\Windows\system32\taskeng.exeC:\Program Files\Dell\Dell Mobile Broadband\systray.exeC:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exeC:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\bin\jusched.exeC:\Program Files\SigmaTel\C-Major Audio\WDM\sttray.exeC:\Program Files\Intel\Intel Matrix Storage Manager\IAAnotif.exeC:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashDisp.exeC:\Program Files\Dell Support Center\bin\sprtcmd.exeC:\Windows\system32\wbem\unsecapp.exeC:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exeC:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktop.exeC:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktop.exeC:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.4\program\soffice.exeC:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.4\program\soffice.BINC:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.4\program\soffice.exeC:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.4\program\soffice.BINC:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.4\program\soffice.exeC:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.4\program\soffice.BINC:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\ieuser.exeC:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exeC:\Program Files\BillP Studios\WinPatrol\winpatroluac.exeC:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exeO1 - Hosts: ::1 localhost <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<I think maybe this is the problem.O2 - BHO: Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dllO2 - BHO: SSVHelper Class - {761497BB-D6F0-462C-B6EB-D4DAF1D92D43} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\bin\ssv.dllO2 - BHO: Windows Live Sign-in Helper - {9030D464-4C02-4ABF-8ECC-5164760863C6} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live\WindowsLiveLogin.dllO2 - BHO: Windows Live Toolbar Helper - {BDBD1DAD-C946-4A17-ADC1-64B5B4FF55D0} - C:\Program Files\Windows Live Toolbar\msntb.dllO3 - Toolbar: Windows Live Toolbar - {BDAD1DAD-C946-4A17-ADC1-64B5B4FF55D0} - C:\Program Files\Windows Live Toolbar\msntb.dllO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [systray] C:\Program Files\Dell\Dell Mobile Broadband\systray.exeO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SynTPEnh] C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exeO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\bin\jusched.exe"O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SigmatelSysTrayApp] C:\Program Files\SigmaTel\C-Major Audio\WDM\sttray.exeO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IAAnotif] C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel Matrix Storage Manager\iaanotif.exeO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DellSupportCenter] "C:\Program Files\Dell Support Center\bin\sprtcmd.exe" /P DellSupportCenterO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottimeO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dscactivate] C:\Program Files\Dell Support Center\gs_agent\custom\dsca.exeO4 - HKCU\..\Run: [DellSupportCenter] "C:\Program Files\Dell Support Center\bin\sprtcmd.exe" /P DellSupportCenterO8 - Extra context menu item: Add to Windows &Live Favorites - http://favorites.live.com/quickadd.aspxO8 - Extra context menu item: Send image to &Bluetooth Device... - C:\Program Files\WIDCOMM\Bluetooth Software\btsendto_ie_ctx.htmO8 - Extra context menu item: Send page to &Bluetooth Device... - C:\Program Files\WIDCOMM\Bluetooth Software\btsendto_ie.htmO9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\bin\ssv.dllO9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Sun Java Console - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\bin\ssv.dllO23 - Service: Apple Mobile Device - Apple Inc. - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exeO23 - Service: Google Desktop Manager 5.7.806.10245 (GoogleDesktopManager-061008-081103) - Google - C:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktop.exeO23 - Service: Google Software Updater (gusvc) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Google\Common\Google Updater\GoogleUpdaterService.exe (file missing)O23 - Service: Intel® Matrix Storage Event Monitor (IAANTMON) - Intel Corporation - C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel Matrix Storage Manager\IAANTMon.exeO23 - Service: iPod Service - Apple Inc. - C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exeO23 - Service: SupportSoft Sprocket Service (dellsupportcenter) (sprtsvc_dellsupportcenter) - SupportSoft, Inc. - C:\Program Files\Dell Support Center\bin\sprtsvc.exeO23 - Service: SigmaTel Audio Service (STacSV) - SigmaTel, Inc. - C:\Windows\system32\STacSV.exe--End of file - 4639 bytesPLEASE RESPOND SOON! Preferred Solution: Google Redirects, popups, slow loading using Mozilla. Open Office Docs won't open. Please help! HJT log incl.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I have a 2003 SBS machine and have various clients connected through exchange to get mail. Users typically leave outlook running the whole day while they work on programs such as access/excel.

I have noticed that on some machines excel and word docs open very quickly over the network until outlook is left open and connected to exchanged. we are opening the files on a variety of win 2003 servers, however when they have their outlook exchange account connected I have seen the docs take anywhere from 3-5x the normal amount of time to open.

I have also noticed that opening email attachments such as xls and doc are also very slow while connected to exchange, but it seems to vary from file to file, some seem better than others.

does the connection to exchange complicate the process of opening docs on remote machines or does it sound like I have a misconfiguration somewhere? I would like to get the performance of opening a file (say a xls) on a network share to be the same as it is when outlook is not connected to exchange.

I do not have these PCs running in offline or cached mode as we have a shared calendar that does not display correctly when I enabled these features. Clients are running office 2003,2007,2010. Turning on cached mode does not seem to make much if any of a difference btw.

Thanks for any insight you may have

After installing the latest Windows updates, I was unable to open any Word or Excel programs on my computer. The doc opened, but immediately an error message dialogue box came up:

Error message: Microsoft Office cannot verify the license for this product. You should repair the Office program by using Control Panel.

The only 2 options available were to click the X to close, or click OK button. Both resulted in the doc closing.

Control panel --> Office did not display an option to repair.

I run Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and Office 2010 Home and Student ... both legitimate store bought products with product keys.

I even tried to uninstall and re-install Office with no change in the results.

I uninstalled the Windows updates with no change, then re-installed them.

System restore did nothing to change the issue.

I would appreciate any help with this issue.

Thank you.

I am having a very strange problem.  I have a workstation that cannot open office documents off of the network.  It is not a permissions issue as I can log in as myself (with network admin permissions) and still have the same trouble.  It is not a certain document either it is anything office.  I can copy the document to the local drive and it will open without any trouble but they cannot be opened from the network.  Any ideas on what would cause this???  I will most likely be reinstalling the workstation fairly soon if I cannot find a solution.

I am not able to open Office docs(Word, Excel) from Win Explorer. It gives me an error message saying it can't find the file c:\my documents\<filename that I am trying to open>. Then it says to check to make sure all the required libraries are present.
If I go into the app, say Excel, and do File Open, it opens fine.

I have done an uninstall and re-install of Office already, same problem.

Running Win 95, Office 97 SR2 on a Pentium 166, 32 MB RAM, lots of HD space free.

Thanks for the help!

A:{Solved} Office docs won't open from Explorer

Bear with me, this might be a little tough to write--it's hard enough to say.

In Excel, try this first: Go to Tools-Options, General tab. Make sure "ignore other apps" is NOT checked.

For Word, and for Excel, if the above doesn't work:

Close programs if open. Open Win Explorer. Hit View-Options (or Folder options), click on File Types tab. Scroll down to whichever program and select it. Hit Edit. Select Open at the bottom. Hit Edit again. Here's what mine say the following (though the paths to your exe file may be very different--it's what comes after the *.exe part that's important:

Microsoft Excel Worksheet:

"c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\EXCEL.EXE" /e

use DDE is checked and says:

[open("%1")]

Microsoft Word Document:

"c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\WINWORD.EXE" /n

use DDE is checked and says:

[REM _DDE_Direct][FileOpen("%1")]
I know this is an area that can fix the problem. But don't ask me what the codes mean! Maybe someone else can shed some light on that.

Issue: Word docs are taking a minute or more to open when I double click on them. Same issue holds true for opening web pages via links in Outlook emails.

Disk defrags are run regularly. Antivirus is up to date and full scans have been run. SpyBot and Adaware have been run. CCleaner has been used to clean up temp files etc.

I have uninstalled Office, cleaned the registry, and reinstalled Office, but the problem keeps occurring frequently (but not all the time.) Problem started about a month ago. I have disabled superflous apps that were running on start up to minimize processes underway.

Any suggestions? Thank you-

My company recently installed Windows 7 and Office 2010. Every time I try to open a excel file, via a link on our Intranet it asks for credentials.

I ruled out IE, firewall, and the document. I narrowed it down to something in Excel except i can't find it. Its like a security setting.

I was able to open the file when I had Office XP installed but as soon as i installed Office 2010 it won't work.

I've gone into the Trust Center and change settings but nothing seems to help. A pervious answer was given (http://www.sevenforums.com/microsoft...cs-2010-a.html) but it didn't work.

Hi all,

I am experiencing an unusual reaction from Office 2007 Enterprise. I am using Win XP SP3.
Office documents, Word, Excel etc...won't open when I am connected to the internet, regardless of connection type, LAN, USB Modem, Wireless wi-fi...
Whenever I unplug/disconnect the internet connection everything goes back to normalcy.

This problem started on first login after installing SP3, although I'm not relating one thing to another and in my opinion this has nothing to do with it, since I am using a similar configuration on my laptop with no problem whatsoever.

As you can imagine this is extremely annoying when working.

Thanks in advance. Any opinions or help will be most appreciated.

Suddenly, all of my Open Office word processing documents converted into Microsoft Word documents. This literally happened overnight and I have no idea how it happened. The starter kit for Microsoft Office came already on my laptop but I never purchased any of the four programs in the suite. How can I convert them all back to Open Office docs without having to open them up in Word? (The Microsoft Office starter kit gives you something like 20 free "opens" for Microsoft Word but then you have to buy it.) Any help would be truly appreciated.

A:Solved: Open office files all turned into word docs! Help!

Hi Roy,

most likely what has happened is that Windows has somehow assigned ODT files to Word.

First, check whether the extensions of the files are still ODT. For this you need to switch off the option "Hide extensions for known file types" in the Folder Options of Windows Explorer (Tools, Folder Options, View). You can now see whether the files have a .ODT or a .DOC extension.

If they are still .ODT, do a right-click on one of them while holding the Shift key and choose "Open With...". Now you check the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" box and locate "swriter" in the list above. If swriter is not there, you'll need to click on Browse and locate it on your hard disc, probably in C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org\program\

After doing this, .ODT files will always be opened by OpenOffice.org, and the icon will also change accordingly.

If the file extensions are actually .DOC, and you don't use Office, you can use the same trick to assign .DOC files to OpenOffice. Then when you modify one of these .DOC files, don't just Save them, but use "Save As" to save them as .ODT files.

All this is assuming you use Windows XP... I don't know how assigning file types works in Vista...

Hi,
I'm not sure when this started as I have not used Office in a few weeks.  My computer uses Windows 7.  Today, I went to open a document in Word and it said "File Conversion--Select the encoding that makes your document readable."  I can choose between Windows, MS-DOS, or other encoding.  I went to check another file and it says "The file cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents."  It also says "The file is corrupt and cannot be opened."  I get the same kinds of messages with every document and with my PowerPoint as well.  All of my Office is 2007.
I tried running my AVG Free and SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition and they did not pick up anything.  I also tried restoring to my last update, but was told that I cannot because the file was changed in the process.  I had to restore for another, unrelated issue about a week ago and it worked fine.
I'm thinking this is some kind of virus but I have no idea how to handle it since nothing is picking it up and I can't restore to even three days ago.  Any help would be IMMENSELY appreciated, as I am a college student and need to be able to hand in final papers!
Thanks!

A:Cannot Open Microsoft Office Files; Word Docs Appear as Symbols

Update--I'm starting to think that one of my antiviruses cleaned out the virus because nothing is showing up, but my documents are still corrupted.  I deleted my normal.dotm file, and also scanned my C Drive for errors so I could revert to my backup from November 18, but everything is still corrupted.  I would like to know if 1) I got the virus, or if it is still lying dormant in my system somewhere; 2) if my computer is safe to use; and 3) if there is any way to get my documents back!
Thanks.

About a week ago our home computer got infected with the Windows XP 2012 Security virus. I used he guide I found on here and successfully removed it. Within the last couple days my computer has been acting up again though. After the fake security virus I could not get Windows Autmoatic Updates to turn back on, and a svchost.exe would run and take up all the CPU and im pretty sure that was related to the Automatic Updates problem. Yesterday I downloaded a program called Dial-a-Fix and it managed to turn the updates back on and it seemed to have fixed the Automatic Updates problem. Now I havea google redirect problem and sometimes when I open IE8 a popup will just appear. I have used Malwarebytes and removed some trojan that shows up when it scans, but it keeps coming back. I have the free version of Avira on the computer and it always tells me it has detected Malware but when I tell it to remove it, not much happens. It scans then nothing really happens. The operating system is XP. Thanks for any help.

Hello and Help!

Yesterday, (March 29, 2011), while Googling a local news station, the pages started loading extremely slowly. I would stop the load and then refresh. Everytime, I would try this, or then go back and try to click on any other links in Google, the bottom left of the screen with the "address destination" would say some other shopping/advertisement page or some odd search engine instead of the intended destination.

I then closed Firefox, (newest updated version, I think), and I failed to open it by double clicking. I right clicked it, and it opened after about 30 seconds. The same problems persisted with Google, so I abandoned my search. I then opened my ebay type of account, which right after logging in, opened a new tab to a shopping/advertisement page. It has never doen this before. This, of course, scared the sh!ts&giggles out of me, so I logged out and then closed my browser window.

Moreover, since doing this, I have completely become unable to open Firefox. Explore works, yet it is slow, and in trying to get to this site, the Google redirect has already happened in IE as well.

Please, please help! I saw in some other forums something called Combofix. However I came to this site first and saw that it should only be used under supervision from a trained user. I do not know what to do!

Hi. This is the first time I've ever posted on any kind of forum. I'm a bit stumped and wondered if anyone could help. I was downloading music a couple of weeks ago from those torrent websites (stupid) and found myself with Spyware/Malware/Trojans. Firstly, I spent ages downloading lots of registry cleaners/fixers and found that ActiveX kept coming up in the search. I then gave up on that idea and downloaded Spyware scanner/fixers - Spybot Search & Destroy and Malwarebytes. These bought up some Spyware which I removed. Now:

1) Mozilla Firefox won't open at all. It is always there under 'Processes' in Task Manager but it won't open. (Internet Explorer works fine) Mozilla won't even open in Safe Mode - there is not even an option to open it in Safe Mode. It won't even open after I close Mozilla in the 'Processes' tab and reboot.
2) Adobe Flash Player doesn't work - even if I reinstall it, no icon appears and I can't find it in 'Add/Remove Programs'.
3) ActiveX - not sure exactly what the issue is with this
4) On Start up, it takes a long time for the icons to appear.

Bizarely, I tried starting Windows in Safe Mode today and Mozilla Firefox worked fine. But in Windows normal mode, it won't open at all.

I have disabled various programs that load on start up, run disk defragmenter, run disk cleaner, run my anti-virus (Windows Security Essentials), plus I also run Spybot Search & Destroy and Malwa... Read more

A:Mozilla won't open, slow to load icons on startup

Update - Mozilla finally opened! All I did was run a simultaneous Spybot scan, Malwarebytes scan and Microsoft Security Essensials scan (still running now) then I clicked on Mozilla and it gave me a list of incompatible add-ons which it could not update. I cancelled these and I now have the latest Mozilla Firefox. When the scans finish, I will reboot and see if the icons load fast or not.

Hey everyone. First time posting!

Here are my symptoms:

First of all, when I start the computer in normal mode, I get an error. "explorer.exe: The application failed to initialize properly (Oxc0000005)" However, this error does not occur in safemode. I can get back to the explorer in normal mode through the taskmanager: run: explorer.exe.

Now regarding the browser: Google redirects me whenever I try to go to an anti-virus website. Including this site!! (I'm posting from my Dad's computer). This occurs in both IE7 and Firefox.

In addition to this, Whenever I try to start an antivirus program, the process appears in the task manager, but no window will pop up. This occurs with SpybotS&D and Combofix.exe and Malwarebytes. This happens in normal AND safemode.

As you can imagine this is very frustrating. Thank goodness RSIT ran and gave me some logs, or I'd be SOL.

Here are the logs. My computer is a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop running XP SP2 Pro with BSafe filtering.

Thanks in advance guys.

Hi,

A few days ago my AVG Free would no longer update automatically, either saying the update had failed or access was forbidden. I have never had issues with AVG before, and my Internet connection appeared to be fine. I ran an AVG utility that addresses the forbidden issue, but to no avail. I was able to run a manual update though, and nothing was found during a full scan.

Then websites in Firefox began to take a long time to load, if they loaded at all. This was only sporadic, but still highly unusual. My internet connection is extremely reliable, and Thunderbird was downloading email without a problem.

Then a couple of Google search results redirected, one to some Samsung YouTube video, the other to a site with a virus that AVG detected and barred me from reaching.

I ran Spybot and found a few registry value issues, but nothing else. I then ran MBAM after hearing good things about it.

It found a Trojan - Trojan.Agent. I quarantined and deleted it.

However, AVG will still not update, and I have still had some site loading issues - no more Google redirects, but as you can understand I've been reluctant to test it out too extensively, so perhaps the potential is still there.

I've left my ethernet cable unplugged as much as possible, although perhaps this doesn't achieve anything (my IT knowledge is decent, but not extensive enough to know how my internet connection makes me vulnerable and when).

I run ZoneAlarm Firewall, and also ran the Windows Malic... Read more

I've been doing alot of tweaking and downloading the last few days, so it could be anything. i wanted to check Microsoft update because for whatever reason, Live Messenger was not logging on and SkyDrive wasn't accessible on my laptop, when both work fine on my desktop. i tried to get to Microsoft update through Google, the link in my start menu, and even the link on the Microsoft homepage but they all ended up on Google with the URL staying as "http://update.microsoft.com/". and it did this with both Chrome and IE7. also, for the last couple days, when i directly double click on the "(C:)" drive, an error pops up about not being able to find some "RECYCLER\S-1-1-14-100023495-100021663-100017297-4700.com" file, but when i type in "C:\" in the address bar, it gets there just fine. also, when i right click on "(C:)" i have the option to AutoPlay, and when i click "open" it asks me what program i would like to use to open "the file C:\". i am currently running an Avast virus scan, but it's a free program so i don't think it will get me very far... help would be greatly appreciated! oh and some programs i have been installing and uninstalling are Gladinet, windows live messenger from "http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Chat/Instant-Messaging/Windows-Live-Messenger-9.shtml" because the actual Microsoft site wasn't working (was told it was a broken link), VLC Me... You have a DDS/HJT log posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.

I am having issues opening my Malwarebytes and SpyBot both in Normal Startup and Safe Mode. In addition I am getting constant redirects on Google.
I am an active yet ignorant computer user meaning I can find my way around a computer by I don't know the language.

Here is the error message I get when opening Malwarebytes:

Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

Please come with help, patience, and layman's terms.

Hello,Download This FileSave it next to mbam.exe (this file is located in the Malwarebytes Anti-malware home folder). Once done, drag and drop mbam.exe into Inherit.exe. Click OK and attempt to run Malwarebytes Anti-malware once again.

Hiya,

I am having a few issues with my computer and it's getting really annoying! My main issues are:
I cant open the internet. I have Internet Exporer (IE), Google Chrome, Firefox and Safari on my computer and Google Chrome is my preferred browser. Since the beginning of October I have not been able to open any of the browsers. When I click on any of the icons, a timer comes up then disappears and nothing opens. After a quick fiddle I found out I could open IE by going through the 'run' function in the start menu and that's how i've been doing it all month!
I cant download anything. This includes files that have been emailed to me, security software off the internet, photos off of Facebook. I literally cannot download anything! I managed to load AVG 2012 onto a disk from my boyfriends computer and upload onto mine and when I run it it cant find anything apart from cookies.
Google Redirect Virus. This is really annoying!! When I Google something and I click on a link it redirects me somewhere else. It doesn't do it everytime though.
Adobe Flash Player disabled. The virus seems to have disabled adobe flash player so I cant watch any videos etc. I do have Adobe 10 on my laptop as I found it on my programs list but it doesn't run when I open youtube.
I got my laptop in June 2010 so it isn't very old. When my antivirus ran out in July I downloaded anti-malwarebytes, spybot and AVG. I've since read that you should only use one so now i'm using just AVG. When I looked at my prog... Read more

NEW INSTRUCTIONS - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help

As you're unable to access the internet, you will need to transfer DDS and GMER from a clean machine to the infected computer using a USB Thumbdrive, or other similar removable media. Once you've completed all steps, please post the logs as instructed into your next reply.

You might like to run the Flash_Disinfector.exe on the clean machine and the flash drive first to protect against any possible transfer of infection via USB.

If you have trouble with one of the steps, simply move on to the next one, and make note of it in your reply.

Alright so I have been having many problems, the first of which with Google redirects when searching something and it would bring me to random web pages (a common problem it seems). After about a week I also had trouble with svchost.exe suddenly eating all my CPU then making Generic Host Processes Win32 (something like that) crash which quieted svchost down. I also had random times where my Google Toolbar would go black and my Internet Explorer window would get slightly smaller (I just readjusted it after). A couple days ago "XP Guardian" showed up (an obvious virus) and I got rid of it with Malwarebytes and McAfee. Now today, Internet Explorer refuses to start up (the hourglass appears but then disappears after a few seconds) and the network setting on the desktop toolbar disappeared. Even when trying to use Google Chrome it cant find any Internet connection. This is being typed from another computer. Also, when recently restarting my computer, a McAfee popup came up and said something about a registry edit from C:/ProgramFiles/Digital Media Reader/readericon45g.exe restricting Internet ExplorerI am definitely infected with quite a "something", it'd be great to get back to normal again!HJT Log:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 2:18:54 PM, on 3/10/2010Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.6001.18702)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOW... Hi all,

I'm really desperate, so hopefully someone has the answer for me. The problem began with Google that redirected to some weird (search) sites. So I ran every Spyware/malware/virus there is on the net (almost..) and not even one did found anything. Also ran rootkit tdsskiller but nothing. After all the tries there are some things changed:

It does not redirect anymore but:

- In chrome, google often does not show results, not after pressing enter or pushing the searchglass. Nothing. It keeps saying that Google Dynamics is not available. Even when I put settings to 'Always use Google dynamics searching'. It changes back automatically.

- In chrome google I can't open Ad links and sometimes no links out of the results. Nothing shows up when I click it, just blank white page.

- I had the same issues in IE, but it seems to work fine actually now.. not sure for how long.

- I can't run Microsoft Security Essentials and I cannot enable Windows Security Center. Although I did run this in Safe mode, did not found anything.

So after all the scans and programs I run, I tried Combofix but nothing changed. I will run it again for the log if someone needs it.

Please help me, thanks in advance.

While I was on Facebook today, a message popped up out of the blue that said I was infected with the Zeus Keylogger and to click here to buy the "only" way to remove it. When I tried to shut it down with tskmngr.exe it screamed that it was "infected" and refused to let me run the program. I also began getting fake email alerts every four minutes, a fake virus scan with the Zeus warning every seven minutes, and a fake BSOD and reboot every ten minutes (It happened so often I timed them, and the reboots always jumped back to where I left of instead of a usual reboot.). I also ended up with a program running in the task bar called "Security Guard 2012" that refused to let me shut it down. It also killed MBAM, SUPER ANTI-SPYWARE, and RKiller and it's various names (I tried them all...). When I try to run it, they all return an error that says: "Windows can't access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I have even tried Safe Mode on all of them after fighting with it for two hours to get into Add/Remove Programs feature to uninstall / reinstall (and the whole time the pc is screaming "It's infected!!" at the top of it's lungs - lol.). I even resorted to going to: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Taskmgr.exe since alt+ctrl+del didn't work. This program also created an icon on the desktop under the same name. When I right-clicked i... Read more
