T470/T470P PCIe NVMe 2.5 adapter part reference

Q: T470/T470P PCIe NVMe 2.5 adapter part reference

Hello everyone, I'm willing to buy a T470 or a T470P in the next weeks, with a 512gb pcie nvme ssd, but the price for it in my country (almost 400?) is very overpriced, I would prefer to buy an ssd separately. As I saw in the T470 review by Notebookcheck, the pcie nvme ssd takes place in the 2.5" slot via adapter. Is there a way to buy that adapter separately ?I didn't manage to find any reference for that specific part during my researches. Thank you.Regards,

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,My understanding is that both the T460p and T470p support PCIe 3.0 x2 via their SATAe SSD connector. The T470p has an adapter on which an M2 2280 PCIe NVMe drive can be connected and get speeds higher than SATA.  The T460p on the other hand only has this one Toshiba SATAe drive to improve on SATA speeds, and that is limited to 256GB, it is rare and cancels the WAN port for further storage. So, can the adapter from the T470p be used in the T460p? This would solve all problems for the T460p, higher speed and good capacity. Thanks

A:M2 2280 PCIe NVMe drive for T460p using T470p's SSD 2.5 adapter. Will it work?

Hi, otheosyou wrote:> it ... cancels the WAN port for further storage.the combo m.2 wwan/ssd slot isn't assocoiated with main 2.5" slot for HDD/SSD, it's a separate slot. This combo slot supports m.2 SSD SATA III 22x42 mm in size only, not a PCIe one.I haven't seen the prooves that the bracket/adapter for m.2 PCIe SSD 2280 for T470p (there isn't the one for 2.5" PCIe SSD in T470p parts list) is compatible with T460p.

That depends.  Are we spending your money or mine?

Given your use case I'd probably use the extra $ to go with a 500GB 2.5" SSD.  Then again, I'm a spec snob and might not be able to resist the NVMe drive.

As you've already figured out, the 470 only uses 2 PCIe lanes so that limits the NVMe SSD to something like 1700MB/sec.  The SATA unit would be more like 500MB/sec or so.  In practice, you'd probably never notice a difference.

FWIW,

My new purchased T470s laptop (Serial Number: PC0S7E53 Machine Type Model: 20HGS24J00) is equiped with a 256GB PCLe SSD. The SSD is neither Samsung nor Toshiba. It's called LENSE20256MSP34MEAT2A ?! I don't even know how to search the specs of such part, as there is totally no information for such ssd in Google! But the key point is the SSD obtained a relatively low write speed compared with other NVMe SSD. As shown in test record by crystaldiskmark, the write speed is only 160 MB/s. Is this normal? Is it possible to ask for a change of SSD? Because my purchase is still within 7 days. Also, the battery is not that long-lasting as it claimed to be (10.5 hours). I charged until 100% and use the laptop for document reading with some online search in Wikipedia. The battery performance has been set to "better battery" and I didn't play videos and music in the process. The battery runs into 17% in 4 to 5 hours. Although I didn't expect it will hit 10.5 hours, but it is too much beyond that???? Could everyone help me with this? Is it normal or is that any possible solutions? Thank you!

Hi All, I would like to upgrade the m900 with a Samsung 960 EVO NVMe M.2 SSD. Given that this drive is quite fast and given that my model only seems to have PCIe 2.0, I think that I should not connect the drive to the small and slower PCIe x1 slot. For this reason, I am looking for a PCIe to m.2 adapter that fits into the larger x16 or x4 slot however I am having a hard time finding one that you can buy here in Germany. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!

Hey,

I recently bought an M.2 PCIe NVMe adapter for my ADATA XPG SX8000 256GB m.2 NVMe SSD (I only have one M.2 slot on my mobo, which is being used by another, smaller capacity, ADATA XPG SX8000 SSD). I installed the SSD on the adapter card and then inserted the adapter into the PCIe x4 slot. When I went to Disk Management in Windows, it does not show up at all (no new unallocated disk shows up). The weird thing is that it shows up in Device Manager just fine.

Any ideas what's wrong?

Attempted fixes: I've looked in my bios for any options to enable but nothing is there that helps; I've taken it out and put it back in; I've run a memory diagnosis; rebooted multiple times; looked for drivers (there are none)

Recent changes: Just a new video card, which was added at the same time. It's a brand new system on a brand new mobo.

System specs:

The adapter in question: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01N09W21D/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The M.2 NVMe SSD in question: ADATA XPG SX8000 http://www.adata.com/us/specification/423
Other specs:

up until windows preview build 14986, the pcie driver "Mobile 6th Generation Intel(R) Processor Family I/O PCI Express Root Port #5 - 9D14" (v10.1.1.27) correctly detects the "Standard NVM Express Controller" storage controller and the Toshiba THNSN5512GPU7 NVMe disk attached to it. starting with windows preview build 15002 (and 15007), the included pcie driver has troubles detecting the storage controller - during bootup, it is detected 4 times, with each time on a different device id. subsequently, the drive is also added 4 times, resulting in boot controller errors & timeouts and failed sleep mode/shutdowns. the included chipset driver in these latest builds seem to have been bumped to v10.1.1.33. the problem can easily be replicated by using unmodified recovery boot usb sticks made from the official isos, and then checking in a recovery console. it is thus not related to anything installed in my system.

Yesterday I installed a Samsung 950 pro 256gb m2 pcie nvme ssd into a Dell E7270
Older configuration was with a sandisk regular sata 3 ssd. After replacement did a bios reset twice, once factory reset, once custom. (I left sata on ahci.)
I chose to install windows 10 pro x64 by using the uefi/gpt methode. Legacy options off.
Installation went without a problem. Afterwards I installed the Samsung nvme driver 1.4.7.17.
Also the Samsung magician software. It reports a link speed 8Gbps (is ok), link width 16 Gbps (should be 32?) .
Is there a way to change the pcie link width from 2x to 4x? I thought this ultrabook did support x4.

I am looking for a new laptop. I currently have a X121e and recall it being extremely easy to configure on Lenovo's site. So I decided to look at the X270. However, having had great difficulty even starting to configure it (apparently, Lenovo does not favour Firefox any longer), I'm currently having trouble understanding the choices. The first is the choice between PCIe and SATA PointingDevice. Following some discussion, I gather this has nothing to do with any kind of pointing device, but affects my HDD/SSD choices. OK, so let's see what the PCIe choices give me. I get 5 'first hard drive' options. (Nothing I do gets me a 'second hard drive' option, so not sure about this. Or rather, I almost understand this now I've read the platform specification, the user manual, the hardware maintenance manual and various posts on Reddit. Lenovo do like to make buying a challenge!) Now, however, I've reached the end of my google-fu. Intel 256 GB Solid State Drive OPAL2.0 PCIe-NVMe256 GB Solid State Drive PCIe-NVMe OPAL2.0 - CapableIntel 512 GB Solid State Drive OPAL2.0 PCIe-NVMe512 GB Solid State Drive, PCIe-NVMe OPAL2.01 TB Solid State Drive OPAL2.0 PCIe-NVMeI understand the difference beween 1/2 and 3/4 and 5 is obviously size. I recently noticed that the PCIe Controller (x16) has a yellow bang next to it in Device Manager. It doesn't appear to interfere with normal daily operations, but last week the GeForce 940mx also did the same thing. I fixed that with the built-in Troubleshooter for Windows 10 (it restored the driver), however that doesn't work for this device. As for the properties of the device when I open it, it displays "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" error message. Has anyone else seen this? I don't recall it being an issue until after the last BIOS update (to v1.20), but I could be wrong as to how and when it manifested. Hopefully there are others that have seen this besides me!

It depends on what you plan to use it for.  It should work if your plan is to use the drives as storage devices.  It will not, however, work if your plan includes using the M.2 NVMe drives as boot devices - this system is too old to support booting from an NVMe device.

I posted this a while ago: T470p overheatingAfter some people recommended to call Lenovo and change fan and paste, I did so.Now couple of months later, i still don't feel very happy about the temperature and running fan. After booting, a couple of minutes later when everything has been initialized, the fan is still noticeable and the temperature shown by XTU is still around 65 degrees. I find this kind of sad that this high end PC has such issues with heat and moreover, why does it have such a high performance CPU if it can't even perform with it's most power due to thermal throttling all the time (under heavy load). What's going on here?
