I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Let me start with an apology. I know this is an IE forum, but I couldn't find one to support Edge, so I'm posting here in the hopes that you might have some knowledge on the topic.
I am trying to deploy a kiosk solution to our college's enrollment center. It needs to display a start page with links and allow for navigation control and also an in private session so that session data is destroyed when a user is done.
I have tried setting up IE, Chrome, Firefox, and now Edge. So far each of the configurations has had some limitations, such as the lack of navigation or tabbed browsing or an easy way to end the session while still keeping the computer locked down.
Edge has gotten me the closest to the desired solution, and in fact it's almost perfect, except one thing, it's so fragile! It is super easy for a user to break it irrecoverably. For instance, if you click the favorite button to expand the favorites, then
click the pin, then click end session, Edge enters a loop and crashes repeatedly. If I UNC to the machine and delete the Microsoft.Edge appx folder from appdata, then reboot the computer, it fixes it. This is not a very good deliverable, but if I don't get
something else working by Thursday this week, it's what I'm rolling with for version 1.

I have the Microsoft Internet Explorer installed and made it my main/default webbrowser.
My problem is with Microsoft Edge though. Everytime i press ctrl+L(locking computer) and sign back in, a Microsoft Edge page just opens up with some countries name on the searchbar. It asked if I would like to make it my default webbroweser but clicked
the ''dont ask me again'' option. I closed the microsoft Edge browser, I locked my pc and signed back in and the same page opened again. I tried to find a solution in settings but got no luck.

Hello, I'm trying to configure something similar to a strengthen kiosk mode: I enabled "force full screen" so all bars are invisible, I setup the homepage, but uisers also should not be able to modify any other thing in IE nor navigate in
other sites. I disabled almost all features and shortcuts using the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions but
some of them still work, like Ctrl-E that is Browser History that let the user access to history and to installed search providers. Is there a way to limit this?
Thank you

I have a machine that I need to set up in Kiosk mode, which I am able to do, but I need to know if this mode will erase any "history" and "cookies" in the browser when a user logs off from the kiosk.

Or is there a way to not save this information at all?

For example, I want to run kiosk mode to load a single web page (command line is "iexplore -k http://website") The website requires a user login and password to get to the main part of the site, but when the user logs out, I don't want any cookies or history saved on the computer.

I need to setup 3 accounts for users who will be accessing websites only, nothings else on the computer.  What would be the better way to do this?
yes I can setup IE-11 in kiosk mode.  But, if the users hit alt+f4 the website closes. and he's back on the computer itself.
Can we disable the alt+f4 only for IE-11?

I am setting up an HP thin client with embedded XP. It will be in our park Nature Center and used by the public to sign up for Recreation classes and trips.

I made a batch file and have IE starting in kiosk mode with the Recreation website as the home page.

But anyone can do ALT-F4 to exit the internet. I'd like to disable this ability. CTRL-ALT-DEL is already disabled.

Any ideas how I can do this?

A keymapper is probably the best option. You can find lots of free ones with a google search.

Ok I actually work for Microsoft so its ironic I need to come somewhere else for the answer lol.

Anyway here is the situation.
We are sent Flash drives so that 90% of our work is done at home.
My OS is windows 7 ultimate 64
The flash drive will load up an emulated windows xp system in kiosk mode.

I can get override the kiosk by unplugging monitor 1, replugging it back in, then clicking anywhere on monitor 2. Normally you can not move the mouse over to monitor 2, this allows that.

However as I'm working in help desk their forced kiosk is preventing me from viewing websites and using tools I NEED in order to get things taken care of, no matter how much they say everything I need is in the emulated windows, it just is not and I need to keep switching out of it.

Basically it just is not convenient for me at all, and if I'm in a rush constantly unplugging and replugging in monitor one just so i can look something up then switch back is going to cause some communication problems as I'm more focused and aggravated by the entire process of getting out of kiosk lol.

I know quite a bit about computers (autodidact) but changing Kiosk settings loaded from a flash drive is not something I'm familiar with.

A few options I have seen are to load local services in windows 7 and edit them but I'm not sure where as this loads from a flash drive.

Also I have seen some registry changes, but again all these suggestions were pertaining to people with the kiosk enabled app being on the hard d... Read more

A:Override Kiosk mode?

Guess I can't edit after certain timeframe.
Anyhow, I figure that if I can set a hotkey to run an app in my windows 7 while within the emulated windows xp it will switch out of kiosk too, but I can't seem to find info on how to do that.

Another alternative was me setting up a hotkey within NVidia control panel that "switches application to monitor 2"
But it seems nvidia removed their hotkey features a while ago.

Any 3rd party programs that could possibly setup hotkeys that won't be disabled by kiosk?

I know another tech has media buttons on his keyboard (music, email button etc) and if he spams them it minimizes kiosk, this is pretty much what I want to try but with some sort of hotkey setting. Just can't seem to find anything that will be tied to windows shell.

If anyone knows of a 3rd party app to set hotkeys that pretty much can be activated anytime let me know

I was wondering if there is a way to run Windows XP in kiosk mode, but I do not want Internet Explorer, I want it to run my .jar file. It runs on startup full screen, but the issue is alt tab, ctrl alt del, and that good stuff will over ride the jar.

Thanks for your help!

A:Windows XP Kiosk Mode

I'm not sure that you can, usually you can set IE to run in Kiosk mode, but that doesn't help with the ctrl + alt+ del as you mentioned still works. Apparently there is no way to disable those keys.
I assume you require a keyboard? I wonder if you can get a special one without the ctrl + alt+ del keys?

Here is a site that I found that tells you how to set up a kiosk, but it requires additional software to be bought.

Hi all,

I am trying to investigate a solution for the secure deployment of applications that may be developed independently.

The desired scenario is that you switch on the machine and it boots up. There may be a log-on, but the desired outcome is that only a specific application may be used by an ordinary operator.

An example implementation of this using Windows CE for devices is that you edit the registry to prevent the explorer process from starting, and make the OS launch your application immediately - there is no access to the OS or the desktop. You handle the login yourself. If an admin logs in then you may launch the explorer process from your application which recovers access to the OS. Naturally when you reboot there is no OS access again. This is largely known as Kiosk mode operation.

Is it possible to emulate this behaviour somehow with Windows 7?

Many thanks!

A:Kiosk mode operation

Have you tried the same method? You may be plesently surprised to find it works.

The launching of the windows shell is probably the same. I rememebr it was some line like "shell=explorer" in the registry. I would give the CE method a try right off if you have that information handy already. A lot of these low level internals are the same whenever possible between all windows versions, CE included.

I am attempting to create a Kiosk mode style build for a touchscreen all-in-one PC.
The requirement will be to severely lock the OS down to give minimal access to the OS whilst allowing the user (possibly joe public) access to a pre-defined list of websites.
The 'Assigned Access' looked to be a god-send as it can do this out of the box, but does not allow me to lock down the IE settings. Also with this only being available to local accounts, I cannot enforce IE restrictions with GPO's.
I would have fully intended of locking down the OS in the traditional manner (as I have done in the past with Win7) of GPO's. Unfortunately, there are no GPO options to disable the metro/start screen. Disableing the start menu was easy as pi on Win7 but
seemingly impossible for Win8.
I find this very frustrating as I want to go with the new technology but am not able to find an answer to this.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions for this, please bear in mind that I will not be able to use 3rd party tools for this implementation, just GPO's, reg tweaks etc.
Kind Regards

A:Windows 8.1 Kiosk Mode

Thanks for all of your suggestions and help.
The solution i went for was a domain joined machine, with machine specific GPO's applied.
Upon starting Windows, it auto-logs into a Local account, with user specific lockdown applied using local GPO (non-administrator accounts only).
Then in startup a batch script starts my desired webpage in (desktop version) IE using kiosk mode.
The only other issue I had was stopping the start button (device has a physical button) bringing up the Metro start screen. To 'fix' this, i simply killed explorer as part of my startup batch script.
It may be crude, but it works for my purpose and allows me to stick with 8.1 for this project.

Oh and to note, using this method, I was not able to have the on screen keyboard open when tapping into text fields on web pages - where in comparison this worked on Win7. Luckily, the webpage being used for this project didn't need this functionality, otherwise
I would have had to revert to Win7.
Kind Regards

I have a site on kiosk on chrome using iframe in which I am opening number of external sites. And each of the sites has their own links with target="_blank". I have no control on those external links. I want to open all those external links inside iframe only or I would need to publish some message for those target=_blank links.I have searched so far and found it that it can't be done. So, I come across the solution to make those sites as kiosk enabled and detect the kiosk URL and open them in kiosk.
By having Kiosk enabled external sites, we will run a script to check all the target=_blank and replace them on external sites. In that way it won't have any impact for those URLs but it will open on Kiosk.

Now, I have one URL with two functionality. One is opening in a normal browser mode and another is to open in a Kiosk mode. I need to detect the kiosk mode URL and open that into Kiosk.
In Kiosk I have many URL and I would like to detect the Kiosk mode URL and open those instead of regular mode.
Is there any way to detect the Kiosk mode URL and open the same?
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Gents,

long story short - My friend owns a bar that lets customers use a shared laptop to play YouTube music.

Laptop got stolen last night and he has asked if I could help out and let him borrow my personal laptop for a night or two.

So is there an easy way I could temporarily enable a kiosk mode that would only let them access YouTube and nothing else?

I know about guest account with parental controls but still feel that this would leave my system to exposed.

Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone.  First, SteadyState is absolutely awesome.  I just installed SS V2.5 on a Windows XP machine.  The idea is that these Win XP machines will be used as Internet Kiosks, nothing else.  The end user is required to use IE only, nothing else.  Prior to Steady State, I had created a VB script which calls a batch file upon login so that IE is always running.  If you close IE, it would automatically reopen.  We want the end users to only see and deal with IE, nothing else.  Since Steady State is installed, the batch file no longer works, obviously due to permissions.  I've been playing with it, but no luck.  Has anyone ever set their SteadyState up like this before? The main goal is to:(1) always have IE up and running, without being able to close it.  (2) we dont want users to even have to log in or out. Thanks!Mike

The way that Microsoft setup Kiosk mode is unusable. When a customer comes into our store and uses a browser restricted to only use the available links on the page (Kiosk mode) expecting them to know what key strokes they  need to use to go forward
and backwards in the browser is unreasonable. The other problem is that we deploy touch screens with NO keyboards. Does anyone know how to use Kiosk mode but still have the navigation keys available for the users to select. The only other way I can think of
doing this is to go to a totally different browser. To expect in this day and age, with the usage of touch screens, to still require a keyboard for navigation in kiosk mode is just silly. Now that I have vented any help would be appreciated.

I have searched everywhere for this answer. Kiosk mode/assigned access is excellent. But it appears that you can only use IE Modern (Metro) for assigned access and the problem with that is I have found no way to completely lock down IE Modern. I can only partially lock it down but users can still get to the address bar and settings very easily.
I either need some advice on setting IE to complete lockdown or how to set IE desktop for Assigned Access.

Guten Tag,

I want to ask you to help me because i am not able to solve my problem alone.

I want to build a Firefox environment thats related to the Kiosk mode, but some features have to be changed.
The Firefox symbol on the left top of the window should be hidden like in the kosk mode also the addressbar and tabs should be hidden (only one tab should be possible) and the searchbar and favorites should be hidden.
Its important that its not possible for the user to fade them in.
Since to yet everything matches with the kosk mode.

Different than in the kiosk mode should maximize/minimize/close visible and the program should not (have to) be running in fullscreen mode.

Basically only the Homepage should be opened and the user should only be able to use the links on the page but should not be able to surf on pages of his choice he should ONLY be able to use the homepage and links on it.
The User should have no chance to fade anything in and should also not be able to turn off any addon.

Key combinations are already disabled (keyboard-driver got modified)
The only thing to do is to set firefox so up that the user is not able to change the safety-guidelines

I am greateful for any help.
Greetings Docj.

I don't think you can control that from a link. That would be governed by the local computer's settings and policies. You wouldn't want a website link to be able to have that kind of control over a system.

Recently, my company started working with a company where they wanted to redirect from an internal Intranet Kiosk site to a publicly available application site. The site apparently (due to lack of something) does NOT have the ability to remove any File Upload
links when coming from the Kiosk URL.  The Kiosk computers are running Windows 7 Pro with various GPOs and registry keys locking them down to using Internet Explorer in Kiosk mode replacing the explorer.exe on the user account. The problem is we have
not been able to find a way to Disable "Choose File to Upload" dialogs in Internet Explorer 11. This seems like it should be a pretty straight forward option as you can disable File Downloads using GPOs but apparently disabling File Uploads isn't
something commonly done.
A number of blocks are in place, but there is always the fun the user could have of uploading files by using their Environmental Variables (Example: %WINDIR%\win.ini) that we would like to avoid.  In fact, I'd like to avoid any dialog to avoid any issues
with seeing Libraries or Desktop folder paths.
Given Kiosk Mode for Internet Explorer has been an age old feature, I'm amazed disabling "File Upload" isn't some default option when you set in Kiosk Mode.
Please assist!  Thanks!

I am trying to set up a kiosk computer with ie9 in kiosk mode. I only want the user to see and use ie9 for a couple of web sites. I'm trying to lock down entry points to Windows Explorer. However, the user can press CTRL+J to access the "View Downloads" window
and can then click Options to access Windows Explorer components. This is not acceptable. This should easily be fixed by a GPO setting to disable the "View Downloads" window, but I cannot find a GPO setting to disable the View Downloads window. I also cannot
find a way to lock down the Options choice from View Downloads, but it would be better to just stop the View Downloads window. Any ideas on how to disable or prevent the opening of this "View Downloads" dialog box?

A:How can I disable "View Downloads" while in ie9 kiosk mode?

No, we cannot disable ?View Downloads?. It is by design. If you want to prevent users to access the local drives, you can enable "
Prevent access to drives from My Computer " group policy. When it is enabled, the user no longer has access to their local ?downloads?. folder.

I prefer Chrome as my overall browser and DuckDuckGo as my search engine. It's all so integrated/confusing to me that I'm not quite sure exactly what's what, but I do know that I do NOT want MS Edge. Can I safely just delete it?

Whenever I open up Microsoft Edge on my Desktop PC, it opens with the top sites that have been visited as well as my MSN homepage below. Is it supposed to do that? When I first upgraded to Windows 10, it didn't do this...all it would show was my MSN homepage. Now, if I made a new tab, it would show the recently visited sites or top sites.

Below is the screenshot.

Since I use IE11 as default and I don't open Edge unless I need to answer question about Edge, my suggestion below can be way off..........

Open Edge > click the 3 dots at top right > Settings > check/select the settings from the screenshot..............
See if that works for you. I use mine as example ONLY.
