Preferred Solution: Can’t access laptop account

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, and TIA for any help forthcoming.

Ill keep the details simple for now, as its probably a simple answer (though have searched here and cant find anything).

XP Pro (SP2) on laptop, wireless connection to router, broadband ISP connection. Everything works fine, until I put the laptop in standby.

When I wake it up, there is a good wireless connection but I can no longer access the web, or the router configurator. When I run Repair it eventually says cannot obtain IP address (or something similar). Have tried automatic and manual for obtaining IP address, but both the same. Everything connects OK again if I reboot.

Is there something simple Im overlooking?

Thanks again.

Hi there, Yanz             -
Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.
If you boot into Safe Mode and you get the same issue then most likely your user profile has been corrupted. You can follow this guide on how to back up your data and from here you can perform a repair install or a clean installation of Windows

Hello all,
Working with a client who wishes to have a laptop usable by both staff and management at his restaurant. He wants the management to have an unrestricted Administrator account, but wants the staff to have a restricted user account such that they
can only use the web browsers to navigate to three specific sites. (btw, the laptop is on a domain) Have been doing research on this for hours now and can't seem to find a solution to what should be a simple problem. All the software suggested costs money,
which the owner is not interested in. Any help?

I can't access my emails accounts (gmail, hotmail, or my school account) from my laptop. It has always worked fine but just yesterday it wouldn't access any of these pages and it won't again today.

I know the email accounts themselves are fine because I can access them from the computers in the library.

Also, my laptop is able to access any other internet page besides these email pages.

Any help would be appreciated!

Okay so I have kind of a huge problem. Well not really I'm just being a bit dramatic. lol. I have recently gotten a new laptop (HP Pavillion dv7-6157cl / Windows 7 Home Premium) and since I set it up I have had a problem signing into facebook. The only time I was able to do so is the day I got it, when my sister installed some add-on but it stopped working less than an hour later. I am able to access the web page but am unable to sign in. At first, I would put in my information to log in and I would see a message saying I had to enable cookies.. So I did that and I still get that lovely message sometimes and I go to my internet options and the cookies are enabled. -_- But what I usually get now is "You must log on to see this page" after I attempt to log in. I know my log in information is correct because I am able to log in on my Android, so that is not the problem. Also, I have restored the internet settings to how it originally was and nothing. Another problem that I had, which I mention just in case there is some correlation to the problem at hand, is that I was having problems logging into my gmail and youtube account. The problem was that I was checking the box for "Stay signed in." So when I didn't check that box I was able to sign into both. Oh and I am trying to refrain from using any other web browsers because some have told me that it is easier to get viruses and that they cause unnecessary problems that may easily be avoided. Okay so I just gav... Read more

Hi bell02, welcome to SevenForums.

Alright, firstly whoever told you that using other web browsers causes you to get viruses was talking out of their.... uh.... backside. Must keep it clean Martin.

In fact, that is the first thing I am going to suggest you try. This will tell us whether it is a problem with the PC or the browser. I'm fairly certain I know what the problem is, but it's best to be thorough.

I'm assuming that you are using IE, so here are some links to other major browers. Do NOT let them import settings from IE (or whatever browser you are using) just click Cancel when they ask.

Yesterday afternoon I suddenly lost all access to my own website from my home WiFi. I tried on the Mac, on my phone, iPad and laptop using my WiFi and none of them would connect to the website front or back of house, nor webmail.

I can access any other website (including age restricted ones like the lottery) on any of these devices. Connects to YouTube, google, eBay etc no problem.

I cleared all the web data and cache etc on the Mac in case it was that and reset my router to get a new IP address and nothing. Still no access using home broadband.

I know the site is working because if I switch off my WiFi and use a 4g hotspot I can connect to front and back of house and emails no problem. My customers can all access it too.

It?s as if the site has blocked my WiFi completely.

I?ve called EE who provide my broadband and they are perplexed. They say no sites are blocked there.
Any ideas?

I have recently reformatted my C drive and have now got windows XP pro and most of programs reinstalled, but I have encountered a very distressing problem; I have an Excel file that contains all of my user names and passwords for web sites, programs, hosting services everything.

But since I have reformatted and restored my programs and data I can no longer open this file!

Actually I encrypted and entire folder containing this file and several other QuickBooks files. So I guess I really need to be able to access the entire unencrypted folder.

The problem seems to be that I did not register my computer with the same name when I reinstalled windows and now Im locked out of this previously encrypted folder, and, consequently this vitally important file!

Can somebody please help me find a way to open this file!! Thank you so much in advance!!

Couple of weeks ago, I accidentally loaded the AOL IM image problem onto my desktop and it generated the csts.exe file but luckily my Zone Alarm software picked it up and I denied it access.

My home network consist of
2 PCs., laptop and desktop both Pcs run Windows 2000 professional.
DSL modem and
Linksys router

Before the AOL IM csts.exe issue, I used to map to the administrative share C$ from my laptop to desktop and NEVER had a problem, now I cant do that. However if I manually create a share on my desktop, the laptop can map to that.

When Im on the laptop and explore My Network Places I can see the Desktop PC under the tree Computer Near Me and I can see the manual shares I have created

Any suggestion(s) on what may have happened or things to look at? Also any suggestion on how to turn administrative shares back on ?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or direction

A:Can’t access the page where you enter a password

You might want to check your hard disk health. Or you may have some malware that is causing an issue.
I assume that this problem is only delaying logging into windows.
Try running CrystalDiskInfo to get a report on your disk health.
I always recommend scanning any system with ADWCleaner . I find that it finds stuff that most antivirus programs miss.
Another fun tool you can try is this:
It is essentially a menu allowing you to apply a bunch of standard windows fixes.

So on Thursday night my computer got a bunch of spyware, malware, things of that nature on it. I ran Spybot and did a virus scan and I was able to get everything off except 4 things. The next morning I was able to get the rest of the items off my computer but when I tried to get online neither Opera, nor FireFox could load any page.

I use a wireless connection and it says Im connected but I cant perform anything related to the internet. I did all the usual things that I normally would to fix the problem, but it didnt work this time. I connected my laptop directly to the modem but that didnt help. I thought I may have accidently deleted something important so I did a system restore and still nothing.

I ran winsockfix but whenever I do it keeps saying something likeError 53 and it was unsuccessful. Ive searched and tried everything I can find. Ive tried all the netsh winsock things in command prompt and netsh int ip resetand the other things related to that, but it did nothing.
Ive tried a couple other thing I cant remember at the moment but nothings worked. Any help would be appreciated.

Also not sure if this helps

Hi folks. I have seen this problem pop up now and then on these boards before and have tried all suggestions, but cannot get this to work. The situation:

I am on Bell South DSL. I have set up a wireless network with a Linksys router, model no. WRTG54C. I have a Dell desktop which is wired directly to the router. I have a Toshiba laptop which is connected wirelessly. On the laptop, I cannot access certain secure websites with password protection. For example, with hotmail.com, I can access the hotmail.com home page, but when I key in my account info and password, I get a "Page Not Found" error. I also use a site for work, Westlaw.com which requires a password. Again, I can get onto the westlaw.com home page, but when I try to access my account, "Page Not Found"

The desktop is able to connect to my hotmail account, and the laptop is able to access my hotmail account when I am on my neighbor's wireless network, so I'm guessing it's not a problem with the laptop's firewall or anti-virus software.

Through this forum, I have seen a suggestion to manually set the MTU setting of the router to 1492. This has not worked for me. I have tried setting the MTU to 1482, 1472, 1462, nothing works. Can anybody help? I've been through 5 different Linksys tech people and they are stumped (no surprise there). Thanks!

I have an Windows XP Compaq Presario v2000 laptop computer.
I use a LINKSYS router model WRT54GS.
I am able to connect directly to my modem, but not wirlessly or wired through my router. The problem is not with my computer because I am able to access the internet through neighbors wireless, but not my own.

Im able to get association (signal Strength), but I cant access the internet.

A:I’m able to get association (signal Strength), but I can’t access the internet.

Remove all stored wireless profiles on the machine and search for the network and connect.

If that doesn't do it, try it with no encryption on the router and see if you can connect that way. If so, updating the drivers on the laptop may be the answer. Of course, you should also have the latest updates for XP as well.

Some Background: Problems began after installing Avast! (AVG was already installed and not disabled.) Re-started computer and Avast! automatically started a full scan. The scan was taking ages so left it running over-night. In the morning presented with a black screen with text: Hard disk error. Insert disk and press any key to continue.
Pushing any key the Windows failed to load with the following error message: Missing or corrupted file System32\Drivers\isapnp.sys.

Searched on Google (on another computer) and found how to fix this problem using the System disk.

Windows loaded now but further problems emerged:
- not able to turn Windows Firewall On
- internet access blocked

Couldnt open Avast!, just got an error message.
Uninstalled AVG in case this was the problem.
Was then able to open Avast! but decided to uninstall it (in case this was the reason for the problems). Nothing changed however with Firewall or Internet access.

Hi everyone, I have this weird problem, and it seems it happens a lot on vista users and I have seen it several times on forums and yet looks like nobody has a final solution. All started almost since I have my computer, also noted it was caused after I woke up the machine from sleep mode, the browser just kept saying "page not found" or "request timed", but I was able to temporally solve the problem by reseting the modem or disconnecting from internet in my laptop then waiting 3 minutes and connect again, however always after some time (15-5 minutes) I cant browse, ping, nothing! but somehow Im still connect to the internet, torrents and downloads usually dont get affected by this.

But one day after I installed a driver software for my Nvidia video card, and it fixed all! still dont know how. Then I made the mistake of sending the computer to sleep, so the curse returned. Eventually I found about "netsh winsock reset" command, worked like magic, until the day the electricity in my house went off for a second, when I restarted guess what? the freaking problem was back. Tried a bunch netshell commands, including resetting the TCP/IP settings, but got nothing, I gave up, and after a few days, I dont know how my internet issue was solved again. Little did I know the electricity was going to fail again, and so my internet.

I just realized that I am unable to access my other users accounts (which are limited) desktops. I use documents and settings folder to get there, but I get this error:

"C:\Documents and Setting\Natalie and Dave\Desktop

Access is denied."

I can access the other limited account, but just not "Natalie and Dave's" desktop. I don't know why either, I am the only administrator account and I am able to access one of two limited accounts desktop.

Is there anything I can do, besides removing the account? Thanks!

A:Administrator account unable to access limited account's desktop?

You can try taking ownership if you're really an administrator.
I don't know what effect that will have when Natalie and Dave try to log in though (if they'll have permission to access their own Desktop that is).
The other possibility is corruption in the file system. If that's the case, run chkdsk /f from the command line (click start, (all) programs, accessories, command prompt, and type chkdsk /f press y and then reboot). When it reboots it will run the disk check, then reboot again. You can see the results of the chkdsk in your event viewer. (control panel (classic view), administrative tools, event viewer, application log, and look for events named winlogon).

When i access a system which is having windows xp professional as an operating system and it is in workgroup it is going to guest account and asking the guest password but there is an option in which if we change and when we try to access the same system it will ask the user name and password instead of going to guest account.

So do anyone have an idea about that option. Please let me know it is very much needed to me.

Awaiting for the reply.

Thank you for your valuable time.

A:guest account - normal account access in xp professional

Not sure I understand your question or problem. Maybe this info will help.

If you are using Simple File Sharing (Control Panel - Folder Options - View tab - Use simple file sharing) it should quietly use the network guest account for access and there should be no prompt. If there is the system has a problem.

If you are using Advanced File Sharing (not using Simple File Sharing) you should get the prompt for a regular account/password.

Hello. I can't open the guest folder usgin my admin ccount on windows 7. Each time I need a file I have to login using guest account and its frustrating. I just clic on the folder and nothing happens

A:Can't access to guest account files from another account

Administrator account is not for general usage, and NOT your own account.
Administrator account required password to access.
Usually, no one use Administrator account.
Do note the differences between "Administrator" account and "admin" rights.
Administrator account have full rights to anything and everything.
"Admin" rights is just act as administrator and is not an account.

As the 1st newly create account (mainly your own account) may have that admin rights.
With admin rights, you are accessible to create accounts for other users.

Also for guest account, by default have no password.
Guest account is always available, but need to initiate it for use, and no password is needed.

If you create guest account, it will not be a guest account, and this will be another user account, but the name "Guest" may conflict with the system created "Guest" account.

In conclusion, you may started the wrong way.

So, if your had manually create an Guest account with password, it is not a guest account at all.
But an user account with the name "Guest".
When you activated the Guest account, there will not be any password.

I often have people over that use my computer for various purposes. Wanting to control access to certain folders, I changed the security permissions on several folders containing private information to only "Administrators" and "SYSTEM". Then I password protected these folders. Thinking that if I were to CHANGE MY ACCOUNT TYPE to a "POWER USER" if I then wanted access to these folders, Windows would ask me for the password. Well I was wrong! Horribly so! I changed my account to a power user and now I cannot access these folders. Even more of a problem is the fact that the ADMINISTRATOR account is NOT ACTIVE!!I have tried EVERYTHING under the sun to activate the Administrator account, all with the same result: ACCESS DENIED!So right now I am pretty royally skrewed. There is literally no administator account on this computer, and I have no way of activating it.Here is what I've tried so far:- Activating Admin account through normal means (Local users and groups). Access Denied.- Running CMD as Administator and using the NET USER commands. Access Denied.- Running REGEDIT and trying to add keys to the HKLM WINLOGON directory. Access Denied.- Creating a new user and trying to add it to the Administrators group. Access Denied.Does anyone have ANY ideas out there that can help me get... Read more

A:Can't access Administrator account! Lost access to important folders!

If you have removed the last Administrator account on the computer, you should be able to boot into Safe Mode to access the Built-in Administrator account. Here's how.

Restart the computer.
As soon as the system starts to reboot, press and hold the F8 Key until you a black screen menu appear.
Select the Safe Mode option and press the ENTER Key.
When the login screen appears, you should see the Administrator account there.
This account does not have a password associated with it, by default.
Select this account and press ENTER.

When Vista starts in Safe Mode, go to Control Panel/User Accounts and change your account back to an Administrator account. Reboot normally.

Hello, I have an old HP laptop running on windows Vista. I hadn't used this laptop in a long time and I wanted to back up all my pictures that were on there to an external hard drive but I cannot access the administrator account where they are all stored. Either I can't remember the password or it is not recognizing it now. I have tried restarting in Safe Mode and getting in that way to at least reset the password as I have read that you can access the administrator account without the password this way but it doesn't work it still requires he password. I do not have a password reset disk and I don't want to risk resetting the entire system and losing everything on there. Is there any other way to reset the administrator password so I can get back into my account? Thank You!

I am running windows xp and under "user accounts" I am listed as an administrator but when I try to install yahoo messenger 5.0 (old version) it says " You do not have access to make the required system configuration modifications. Please rerun this program from an adminstrators account." A similar thing happens when I try to install the latest version of yahoo messenger. It stops in mid install and says try again after restart. Can someone help me please? I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

By the way the problem started after my wife deleted yahoo messenger to try and install it again because her pictures would not load up on her messenger account......

Is yours the only admin account on the computer?

How did your wife "uninstall" the program? Did she use the Windows utility in Add/Remove programs or just delete files?

I have a wireless network.I have just configured my sons laptop. When I go to login to a hotmail account (mine for testing),I get to the login page, login with user name and password....then nothing. No error page, just blank with a continuing eggtimer. Can anybody cast light on this what is most probably easily explained.

A:cannot access hotmail account

Check for firewall issues, and test with another account if you can.

You may need to bypass the entire wireless setup and connect direct to the modem for a proper test.

I know Microsoft does some strange things, but sending the password info to your hotmail email??? I thought they would send it to your alternate email address if you supplied one. If you did supply one did you check there?

Hello everyone!

While I have used these forums for all sorts of information, this is my first post.... and it is a question.

My cousin is having problems with her son getting around the different parental controls that she has set up. He is even getting around a fingerprint reader. She has decided she's tired of his games and wants the computer to be a single account with one access password. She is using Vista Home. Myself, I am still using XP, so Vista does not come naturally to me.

My question is this:

Would deleting all the current accounts and activating the hidden "A"dministrator account and passwording it make it secure? So that even "safe mode" would only have the one possible account and require a password as well?

And any ideas anyone has about this I am willing to entertain. I want to lock this baby down!

Hi guys, fairly new to win 8 but I do remember 3:11 quite fondly and everything else leading up to this leadbelly software.
Ok, first and last bitch. My son decided to give my mother his new (then) PC...She has a slow dial up and in the transition of adding her as admin and deleting him the network failed long enough to not allow her admin status to take effect but oddly enough allowing him to be deleted as admin....no big deal I thought (clueless as to the throttling grip MS has added to 8)...to date,I have tried everything to resolve this issue but foiled at every turn.
Problem is the YES button is never highlighted in every event to add an admin password.
I have followed pretty much most "solutions" only to be be mocked at the finish line with no YES button.
ANY assistance would be welcomed.

By the by...I have since bought the Princess Bride and myself laptops each with Win8 and was quite happy until I upgraded to 8.1 and lost my desktop pic...???? Bizarre...goneski...and after searching forever found the pix in some obscure folder not of my making...What is this dark majic you dabble in Mister Gates???

I really hope someone can help. I am seriously techno challenged and at my wits end. I have been unable to get into my hotmail account for the last 2 weeks. When I go to the log in page it tells me my password is incorrect. I have followed the link to reset the password and then clicked on the reset link that was sent ot an alternative email address. All I get then is a massage that says There's a temporary problem with the service. Please try again. If you continue to get this message, try again later. I have been told that hotmail and live.com have been taken over by outlook/skype and because I did not change over in time my account has been deleted not sure if this is true as I did not get any advance notification. I used my email in the evening and the next morning could not log in. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance

A:Cannot access my hotmail account.

because I did not change over in time my account has been deleted not sure if this is trueClick to expand...

That is false. Your hotmail.com (or live.com) will be automatically "converted' to use the outlook.com GUI (as mine was). There will be (at least, should be) no difference to your use of your hotmail.com account except that the web mail access looks different.

Two weeks is a long time for a "temporary" problem with the service, but I don't really have much in the way of ideas. If you are using any kind of browser or password manager to input your password try typing it yourself in case the stored password is corrupted.

Try accessing from another computer and from another internet access (e.g., a friend's or a free hotspot) in case there is something weird going on with your computer or internet service.
