Preferred Solution: Crome wont 'remember' size/position

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Crome wont 'remember' size/position

drag the sides out a little and then maximise - then you need to close using thr menu - so click on the spanner and exit
that should now open in the maximised state

same applies to other browsers - the key i found is to drag the sides slghtly and to save/exit/close using the menu option NOT the X

For some reason, my Wordpad won't remember the window's size or position. I don't mean for each document individually, I mean at all. Every time I open it, it's just this big thing in the middle of the screen. I've resized it to -3, 0, 446, 1063 countless times, but for some reason it just doesn't stick.

I've tried holding ctrl while closing it and whatnot, but nothing seems to work.

I had another Vista Ultimate x64 install that did not have this problem. Wordpad just remembered its size and position every time it was changed and it would always open up to the size and position it was last closed as. But for some reason, it just won't save on this install.

Any help would be appreciated.

edit: I managed to right click on the title bar each time to resize each side of it, then held ctrl and closed it, then I opened it and it remembered it. So then I moved it where I wanted it with the title bar again, and then ctrl closed it again, and it seems to be staying there. Thanks, problem solved.

A:Wordpad won't remember size/position

Hello Tiffanys , welcome to the forum.

Resize the window, then reposition. Hold down the Alt key and left click the close window button on the top right of the window (red X). In some computers it works with Alt key instead of Ctr key.

What is the rational (if there actually is any) of not allowing one to save window size & position (other than the last window opened)?

Without using a 3rd party program (which seems to be the norm with Win7) has someone found a way to allow saving resized windows other than the last window opened??

A:Why can't Win7 remember window size & position like XP??

That functionality is built into the application by the developers. All of my applications remember their sizes and positions on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

Hi guys,

This has been bugging the hell out of me for about two weeks. Windows is no longer starting firefox maximized, and is putting it in a really small area to start out with. I'm sick of having to maximize it every time I open it.

I'm not sure if this is with other programs or not, but I can't remember anything coinciding with the start of this.

Also, I have a weird problem in FF where any drawers or menus will only open after clicking and moving under them. For example, I click an RSS feed in my bookmarks toolbar folder. The little arrow turns black, but nothing extends out. I have to move my cursor underneath the icon for the list to pop out.

Also, when adding a site to the bookmarks, I'll open up the dialog box and click "ok", but then the text just disappears and the bookmark will be entered without a label.

Any idea what might be up?

A:Windows won't remember firefox window size/position

Try this Fox

Right click on the Firefox icon (either on your Deskptop or in the Taskbar), click Properties. Click the shortcut tab, beside the Run line, use the drop down to change the way the application should open, change it to either Normal Window or Maximized

Let me know if this helps

Hi guys. I've noticed that, when I put my computer to sleep and wake it back up, if I have a file explorer window open with a large list of files (several pages of family pictures in a detailed list view), the window defaults to the first (top) file in the list -- if I am clicking through pictures several pages down, and then sleep/wake the computer, while the last file I clicked remains highlighted, I have to scroll all the way down to find it again. Any ideas on a fix?

I've been banging my head on this one all day ...We have a domain network where one of the users is complaining that her Windows 7 machine is not remember the size of a "File Upload" window. If we adjust the size manually and close out, it goes back the it's original size when we open it again. My original thought was something in the GPO was causing the issue, so we prevented all policies from applying and even created a new user to ensure it wasn't a corrupt profile. Still, no luck. We run into the same issue as the original user. However, when we log on as Domain Admin or Local Admin, the issue is resolved - we can resize windows and it's all remembered the next time we open it up. With that in mind, we created another new user, no policies applied and made them a Local Admin. Guess what ... same problem as the original user.Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this problem and if there is any way to fix it? The user states that she didn't have this problem until recently - but we have no way to verify the authenticity of that statement.Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Something I like and can't seem to get Win 7 to do for me.....

I open a window for my computer, size it and set it at the upper left of my screen. I open folders in new windows; i.e. open the D: Drive and position it next to the window I opened for my computer. Close both. When I open my computer again it is now in the position where I opened the D: Drive.

How do I get specific windows to retain the size and position I set each time I open them rather then simply pick up the size and position of the last window I opened?

Sorry for this sophomoric question; I'll probably kick myself when I know the answer.

Hi, I've been wondering is it possible to reset the window size and position of the windows system called regedit.exe, I've tried System Restore, and it reset to where the default should be, but I need to know how to edit it using registry, I've tried the tutorial here in which you just run Reset_Explorer_View.reg, that can be downloaded from here, but does not work.

Any help?

A:windows size and position of regedit.exe

Hello Muz,

That would reset the folder view for everything back to default.

Normally you could manually size (drag window borders) the registry window to how and where you like it, then close it. It should then open the same way as it was last closed.

Hope this helps,

Up until a week ago I could minimize an open file that would fill the top half of my screen and it would go all the way from the right side to the left. After maximizing the window and then minimizing it again, it would be the same size and position as it was before. My screen resolution is 1366 x 768.

Then, and I don't know what I did wrong, when I minimize the file, it's in the same position, (top half of screen all the way to the left) but it's about an inch from the right side. I think that I had set the PC to remember the position and size of on windows. Sure doesn't work that way now.

I've searched everywhere and I can't find how to reset it. Any ideas?

Thank you

I'm running Windows 10 pro x64.

I have an UHD monitor and would really like it if there was a way or application to set up certain windows to be a specific place on the screen and a specific size when they open.

For example, each time I want to save or load any file a small dialogue box appears which I need to resize to the screen height. I do actually need the dialogue box to be that size.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hello everyone, I have a laptop that I often use with an external monitor and I'm a person who likes to have my windows organized in a specific way every time. Now my problem is that when, for example I am using my external monitor and have everything set up the way I like it, then I need to take my laptop somewhere, so I have to use the laptop's monitor all of my windows are resized and not organized at all, so every time I switch monitors I have to go through the process of moving and adjusting the sizes of the windows every time, which has been quite tedious and annoying for the last year. So I did some Googling for my little problem, however I found NOTHING about the problem as far as Windows goes. I found two separate applications that sound like exactly what I need, however they are for Mac only. I'll post the links to those so that you can read the descriptions of what they do if you aren't quite fully grasping what I'm trying to explain. .

If anyone else has this problem I would try this
Show hidden files

It will say it cannot delete the file as it is in use but tell it to anyway
Windows will make a fresh file and your icons will stay where you have put them

I have started using windows recently and a flood of problems has arisen. Most I have conquered but this one I just can't figure out.

When I open a window, then maximize it, then close it, and then reopen it, the maximize position is incorrect. The window does not go all the way to the top, and is not "tacked" to the edges of my screen, as maximized windows should be.

Normal maximized window (Manually maximized)
After closing the window, I reopen it. The saved maximized position is off, it's too small.
The supposedly maximized window can even be moved around!

I have googled and search and I have not found an answer.
Hopefully someone here knows!

Thanks you

Does anyone know of any software or way that allows me to lock/freeze any application/window on my screen

We are all familiar with the fact that for people who dont use a single window in explorer that windows 7 removed much functionality.

Window size, position and layout is not remembered anymore. For explorer and many application windows.

I've been using a program called windowmanager since windows 7 was released, but the product only sometimes works and is extremely frustrating to get it to work properly and consistently. Now that upgrades are no longer available to me I'm looking around for something else.

I remember reading here a couple of years ago about another product, but I can't find it. Does anyone know of such a product? Was it something MilesAhead wrote?

I am quite a highly OCD and lazy person and currently I noticed that everyday late at night when I?m doing some work I leave my Google chrome split to the right of the screen and some document on the left side. When I open the browser in the morning I have to manually re-size the window length and width.

I am currently browsing the internet to check if there is a solution to my problem and found a google extension that does 75% of the job. It?s called windows resizer - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...ammmilcgefonfh

However, you still need to press the button in order to re-size the window. I would like to override Chrome?s default settings and set a width, height and position just like you can do with VLC player.

A:Google Chrome default opening position and size

I'm sure that it is just me - but I don't understand the issue here. Chrome should remember the last position that it was in. Maybe I don't know what you mean by "I leave my Google chrome split to the right of the screen". You leave it windowed (not full screened) and on the right side of the screen - correct?

I have a computer that uses two HDMI display devices (Samsung TVs) via DVI-to-HDMI converters. However, when the TVs fall asleep, the application moves back to a single monitor conifguration, and messes us my window location. Is there a setting somewhere or a utility I can take advantage of to prevent the moving of the windows?

What about a way to make Windows think both devices are still connected when they are asleep, so it doesn't change it's output?

I've just installed win7-64 and Office 2007. When I open Outlook the window size is half the screen. I would like it bigger and drag the bottom of the window to the bottom of the screen. When I close Outlook and re-open, it reverts to the old window size and does not remember what I had set it to. How can I get it to remember the size it want?

A:Outlook 2007 doesn't remember window size

Hi, victord66!

Try maximizing, then closing it and re-opening. After re-opening it should come up as full screen (maximized). Then restore down and size it to the way you want it. Next time you open it, it should retain that window size.

If you want it to be maximized (full screen), always close it when it's maximized. If you want it to be a particular window size, always close it when it's at that window size and location.

This works for almost all application windows.

If that doesn't work, we'll have to look at the properties of the shortcut you use to start Outlook. We'll save that for later, however, as I doubt you changed any of those settings, right?

Since the first public beta of Windows 7, I found it very annoying, that MS removed the option to remember each folders view settings for explorer windows. Now explorer windows didn't even remember their position and size, which completely destroyed my work routine.

After a lot of research and many failed attempts to fix the issue, I found a solution to this problem: WindowManager (DeskSoft - WindowManager - Window position and size manager)
This small utility remembers and restores the position and size of all top-level windows. You can even lock certain windows to always open them at the same spot, and there are other cool features. I tried it and it does the job!

Best regards!

After I did an update of nVidia 9600 gt driver in 'Windows Update', no longer is the window size of ANY applications that were open at the time of the update remembered (after I resize them, then close them then reopen them).

It didn't affect all apps - Firefox was fine, but Internet Explorer, all MS Office apps, Corel PhotoPaint, etc can no longer remember the size I made their windows.

It didn't help to put the old driver back - in fact it made it worse, as by then I had even more apps open, and now none of those can't remember the window size either.

There must be some place in the registry where a change got made for each of these programs that can be fixed?

Thanks for all the help. I want to make my shorcuts start programs and windows (In WIndows Xp Pro SP3) at a certain position and with a certain size.

I gave the odd numbers in the example so that people responding will understand that I want CUSTOM SIZES. I know how to set the shortcuts to start maximized and minimized and also window tiling. That's not what I'm talking about. Does anyone know of shortcut switch that I can use?

A:windows 7 wont remember wireless password

the brand and model of the dongle might help. Some come with connect softs and others don't. A profile in the software may need you to input the passphrase one time and save profile. If Windows is handling your wifi connections, when u click on the signal icon in the tray, and right click on the connection u use, select properties of connection, two tabs at top, Connection, checkbox for connect automatically. If this is checked and still will not auto connect, check that the passphrase is correctly entered in the connection properties.

Also I have another problem. You know when you buy a compaq computer they give you that cd which makes it reformat it and program it and make it turn out to be like it just came from the factory loaded with all the programs. Well i want to make one of my harddrives like that. Whenever I try to do it, I load the cd in and restart it, then it starts loading, but it wont work. The letters are all jarbled or just doesnt show. Are these cd's no longer good. I still need ME sadfully.

A:mobo wont remember my graphics setting

For the last "problem", you'll need to use Norton Ghost or something similar... But then you'll be able to create cd's of your Os harddrive, and restore it at any time...
Search for this in the misc software forum...

It's not your motherboard that is the problem when it comes to saving your settings... This is most likely due to a setting in Me, which ignores any changes you make to the desktop...
(A very nice way to make sure everything looks the same in an office/school, but not to usefull for a home user....)

Unfortunately I can't seem to find out where this option is...
Try searching through the register (regedit) for "desktop"...

Last, I guess you're using fahrenheight, as otherwise you've got your computer in a sauna....
Are any of the fans directed at the heatsinks on the motherboard?

BTW: Your fans are set up correctly? (not all blowing in/sucking out?)

Ok so I've been determined to try and troubleshoot this one myself for the past week and it has gotten me nowhere so far. Let me bring everybody up to speed on what has happened. Tried registy cleaner, CCl... Read more
