Comp shows vid card and mobo info then nothing

Q: Comp shows vid card and mobo info then nothing

My sons comp quit on him last week and i have no idea what is wrong. it will show his vid card info and his mobo info and that is it. I tried re-installing the win 7 os, but nothing happens. i think maybe the cd rom is bad, but shouldnt it boot up anyway? i dont know if or how to boot from a usb drive. Could that be a way around the problem, or does it sound like maybe the hdd is bad? Any help will be appreciated. thanx

Preferred Solution: Comp shows vid card and mobo info then nothing

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Comp shows vid card and mobo info then nothing

Hi watcher 6342,

You say you tried to reinstall Windows, did the machine boot that far? or did it just go as far as the first Motherboard and Graphic card screen?

If the latter, then the machine is failing the POST (Power On Self Test) this means that you have some faulty hardware somewhere.

First and foremost, you have already identified the CD drive as possibly bad. If it is causing a problem then the machine may well refuse to POST because the SATA controller cannot initialise properly. It seems to me, (and I admit I don't have a massive amount of knowledge in this area, beyond what I have just said) that the first course of action would be to try unplugging the CD drive from the SATA port.

I've put together a PC using parts (mostly) from a local used computer junkyard. The motherboard is an AOpen s651m running an Intel 2.8ghz chip.
I have a SATA DVD burner I'd like to add, but the mobo doesn't have any SATA connections, so I've considered adding a SATA/IDE PCI expansion card.

I would be interested in learning from anyone with experience adding one of these cards, if its do-able at all, if I need to add any special drivers to make it work, and any other pearls of wisdom. My OS is XP Home SP3.

Thanks in advance to all...

Does the DVR box support downloading files to a computer through any kind of a network (Ethernet) connection? If not, exactly what type of video outputs does it have?

Does you computer have any kind of TV video inputs and stereo audio line inputs?

So, here's the build i'm looking at right now.

https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/...ber=10099346&WishListTitle=New comp (Dec. 08)

I really want to move from mid-towers (I have an Antec 900) into full towers, both for more space and for better air flow.

My question is:
How can I tell if a power supply's cable will reach from the bottom of the case to the top of my mobo?
I haven't seen any cable measurements with any of the psu's i've looked at so far. I know they sell extentions, but some of those cost $10 each, and that adds quite a bit to the total price of a psu.

Any words of advice?

A:New comp, need info on PSU's

And, in the off-chance that I screwed up with the link, here is the case i'm looking into:

Yeah, this is my second computer build. For some reason, the computer won't start up a BIOS or boot menu. I'm 99% sure that the parts are securely fastened. I'm also 100% sure they're fastened correctly. The computer starts up, the fans run, mobo's LED light turns on, HD runs floppy works, cd-rom works, but all I see is a black screen. The keyboard LED's dont turn on (they always flicker or turn on or something when a computer starts up with it). I'm not completely sure if it's the motherboard that's messed up or something, or if I have something incompatible.

Simon's Rig as is:

Intel Pentium 4 531 Prescott 800MHz
Western Digital Caviar SE WD400JD 40GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache Serial ATA150
ASUS P5S800-VM Socket T (LGA 775) SIS 661FX Micro ATX
Kingston ValueRAM 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered

ati radeon 9600xt *it works, its my old one
Newegg Links for Parts:

Newegg links should give you product info, lol. Save yourself time.

I'm not sure what the heck is going on with my comp, but it's just a black screen when everything's plugged in together and turned on.

I need help on this matter before I go absolutely insane.

A:new comp: starts, but nothing shows up

my guess is its 3 possible things not working (that is if evrything is hooked up correctly) either

1. Motherboard isnt working
2. Ram isnt working
3. Harddrive isnt working

I checked all the parts and they seem compatible. Im guessing that its the motherboard that isnt working. It happened to me also, the led was on on the mobo, but nothing on the screen. My advice is call the company (asus) and tell them whats going on, they will probablly ask you to send yours in, then they will send it back. if you look on newegg, it says its only covered by the manufacture (again thats asus).

To save you some time heres the asus info you need to call:

just won a Soyo kt33-k7vxbp w/ cpu and memory on E-bay to upgrade my OLD desktop..
Know this is a good (old) board but want to know details. Yahoo/Google searches have NOT turned up any detailed spec sheets.
At the very least I want to know RAM capacity and type and CPU capabilities

Any help out there.

A:New/used mobo info

You need to search for the KT333 K7VXBP not KT33. If it's the Dragon Ultra, then it has the following:
Three DDR 2.5V DIMM sockets support up to 3GB (DDR 333/266/200)
* 184-pin PC2700/PC2100/PC1600 non-ECC, unbuffered DDR SDRAM memory

You can find the Dragon Ultra specs here in this review of the board when it first came out. Hope this helps.

Can anyone ID this AMD CPU have been everywhere and keep coming up with results that just don't quite match what I look for.
I know it is a ?"Venice" but thats about it.

Plus I have Gigabyte GA-K8FN9 Ultra board that I am rejuvenating with some SATA gear but I cannot find out what max speed CPU the board will support - Gigabyte site is just so slow and pedantic about screeds of numbers. Googling just comes up with forums that don't rally answer my simple query.

However I do have the manual and this snip is in it does this mean that I can fit a 3Ghz or higher in this board? I will add the snips of the current CPU (LEBBE) and the one I had given to me by a friend - no name ID - I just want to know which is the best to fit.
Thanks in anticipation

Good Morning All,

I have a generic laptop computer that my uncle purchased from a local computer store. The hard drive died and I had to reinstall Windows XP. I am having a heck of a time finding the system drives for this model.

I know it is an Intel Processor, but system info only tells me that this is an Asustek motherboard and the model is MK7. The unit itself was built by the local shop so the case model helps me ZERO! I am wondering if anyone can give me some more suggestions as to where I can find the info I need to hunt down the drivers for this model?

Thanks in advance.

OK so I'm reading about this on the 'net earlier. Ive had8GB in my machine for over a year, all is fine, runs no probs. But I recently installed Everest and noticed that it reported my 8GB being 4096 of physical RAM. Opening task manager confirms this also, yet the BIOS, and the Vista welcome screen says 8GB

I read that the nforcei 680 (?) chipset doesnt use more than 4GB, yet other articles state you need to have MIMO in operation.

Well, I have a quadcore QX6850 processor which supports 64bit computing, IM running Vista Ultimate X64 and have the ASUS P5n32-e Sli motherboard with a 9800 G2 SLI card. So which is true? Do I need to remap the memory? If so how, how? I looked in the BIOS and you can change volate, timings etc but without proper guidance on that IM dead in the water.

Why is Everest/Task manager reporting 8GB as 4GB, yet the BIOS at 8GB etc?

Ayone else having these issues or know what to do?!

I will be going to a new system sometime in May. The reasons for the long wait: I'm going to a AMD64 set & money. I thought I'd give the 64's some maturity time.

First step is to pick a mobo. I'm looking at the Gigabyte GA-K8NNXP and the Soyo SY-CK8 DRAGON Plus, mostly cause I like where the nForce chip set is going. But I've not been able to find alot of opinions in the nforce 3. (Now if only Abit had a nforce3 board..)

Any suggestions?

A:Info on parts for new comp

If I were me, and I believe I am, I would wait even longer than that, unless I had a specific reason for a 64-bit system. Actually I have access to 64-bit systems, but I don't have any use for them. It's just a waste of money this early in time...

But...............if you really want a 64-bit system, I would follow this link. I am under the understanding that Windows XP 64-bit edition has not yet been released, and won't be for some time. Beta would be impossible to get into. However, Microsoft seems to be handing out free trial versions of it, here. It's just a trial version though, and expires in 360 days. You may be able to just reinstall it, I don't know--but that would be a hassle. But a free copy to try out for the next year sounds pretty sweet. I don't know how stable it would be though, being that I think they are still beta testing it.

Hello all,

I have just finished building my first system form the ground up. My problem is not what I expected, as I was waiting for a major catastrophy...LOL

On post, and in the device manager, the info about my processor is wrong.

Here is what I have:

ECS KT600-A Mobo
Athlon 2400XP
512 Kingston DDR 333
ATI 9000 Pro
WinXP Pro

On post, and in the device manager, it shows that my CPU is only an 1800+ and 1.5 gig. This was bought in a retail box from a respected dealer here, and I understand this to be a 2 gig CPU.

Is there something I have to do in the bios to recognise the full spec of the CPU?

I have been at this all night, and I am now off to bed. I will look for responses in when I get up.

Thanks in advance

bruceb3 ... WinDirStat will show what you are looking for.  Download here, from bleepingcomputer.com.

BleepingComputer Review:
WinDirStat scans one or more hard drives and produces a detailed map or the disk making space hogs immediately apparent.
It does this by drawing a rectangle for each file, the relative sizes being decided by the relative sizes of the files. So, a very big file will be a very big box and a small file would be a small box.

Hey guys, I've just upgraded my 5 year old pc with almost everything new. I got an Asus Maximus VII Ranger & an i7-4790k cpu & other new stuff except my graphics card & ram, 2 x 8gb Hyper X Fury 1600mhz. What I don't understand is reading the manual about the speed of ram I can install.

4 x DIMM, Max. 32GB, DDR3 3200(O.C.)/3100(O.C.)/3000(O.C.)/2933(O.C.)/2800(O.C.)/2666(O.C.)/2600(O.C.)/2500(O.C.)/2400(O.C.)/2200(O.C.)/2133(O.C.)/2000(O.C.)/1866(O.C.)/1600/1333 MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory *
Dual Channel Memory Architecture
Supports Intel® Extreme Memory Profile (XMP)
* Hyper DIMM support is subject to the physical characteristics of individual CPUs.

I would like to install higher speed rams like 2400mhz or higher if possible (are there even 3000++ mhz ddr available? Looking at my local shop, 2400mhz ddr3 is the highest) without overclocking but I'm lost at the " (O.C) " bit. Do I need to overclock them to get at that speed or can I just get rams that are made at that speed? Thanks!

A:Need info on RAM to install on new mobo

The OC means you will need to OC your motherboard to use RAM rated at that speed. If you are not planning on OCing, just get the 1600/1333 Mhz modules.

BTW the average person would never notice the differences in RAM speeds. Memory is not the bottleneck in computing.

Well I was just wondering what possible upgrades I could put on my asus A7V8X-X MOBO.
It's a rather old version and I tried to find the info needed, but came home from a sad voyage on that one.
All I need to know is, what better parts could I possibly add to it with the given MOBO and the hardware already installed on it.

CPU: AMD athlon XP 2600+, MMX, 3DNow, at 1,7 GHz
GRAPHICS: NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 with 64 MB VideoRAM
SOUND: AD1980 SoundMax integrated audio
NIC: integrated on MOBO
RAM: 512MB DDR, on box it says that it canhave DDR266, DDR333 and DDR400

So could someone advise me what best to do when I want to upgrade the performance without getting a new MOBO installed and with the data given, I gave this data to the best extend I could, cause the MOBO was a bulk version and came with no real manual.

Thanks in advance.

Yours Sincerely,

A:Just asking some info about what I could put on my asus mobo

Asus should have the manual online.

You could get a faster CPU, more ram and a new video card.

I use AVG, not PC Cleaner Pro. It is an on-demand scanner and I thought it was enabled.

I searched my hard drive for PC Cleaner Pro and it doesn't show up. It isn't listed in my programs, either, so I cannot uninstall it. Is there any way I can get rid of it? Why isn't my AVG information showing, instead?

I consider myself very tech savvy but this issue has me stumped. I had an MSI K9A2 Platinum motherboard, Phenom black edition processor, 630 watt power supply. One day, it decided to die on me. It shut down and never came back up. If I unplugged the power cord and plugged it back in the fan would give a short sign of life then nothing.
The moboard light (green) would come on but other than that there was no sign of power. I was not sure if the issue was motherboard or power supply so I went to Frys and bought a new mobo and PSU. Came home, got everything hooked up, installed Windows 7, and everything seemed fine. Power was on, comp was booting. I started installing my previous software with no issue. Then, as I was reading something online the comp shut down. No power, same sign of life as before minus the green light since there isn't one on the MSI K9A2 CF board I bought. The fan give a quick partial spin then nothing. Both PSU and board are brand new. I have tried removing my video cards, ram, drives, etc just to see if one of them was the issue. No luck. Now I'm sitting here with a very expensive paper weight not knowing why it won't power up.
I hope someone out there has an answer.
Peace to you all.

i am in a win10 1607 (14393.693) , and I am having the following issue :
I have created a Data Collector set (5 mins duration). in once case, I stored the results as tsv and in another as .blg. The problem comes from an inconsistent behavior when trying to see the results
1) opening a new perfmon.exe and opening the log, gives me the first image

2) However, as a hack, when I open the Reports area and instead of watching the results of the data collector I point to the log file, I get the expected behavior.

3) and double-click the blg file also works properly

Does anyone have any ideas on what might be going on? Maybe a bug?
Thank you all!

Every time that I open Reliability Monitor it shows that all my
applications have been installed that day. Select another day in the graph,
and all apps were installed that other day too. I'm not sure whats going on
here ? It doesn't seem to be causing any pain - other than I get a warning in the monitor every day in the software installs section, but its clearly not
right. Anyone got any ideas ? I'm using Vista Home Premium.

I swear I'm never messing with linux again. It's a great operating system when it works, but when it doesn't, it will screw everything up.

OK, so I removed the linux partition from inside windows. But it was still trying to boot into ubuntu, because of grub. Well, I used this recovery cd to try to fix this, but it was a factory recovery cd for an dell laptop (N5050).

Well, the computer is actually a dell inspiron all in one 2305.

I'm currently using windows and it's working correctly, just displaying wrong model (probably wrong drivers as well).

Anyways, linux is still installed and the computer thinks it's a dell laptop.

I forgot to mention one thing, the optical drive doesn't read cd's. But I can boot from a usb.

So, what can I do to fix the situation, and I solemnly swear to never use ubuntu again!

A:System info shows wrong model, how to remove grub?

Just an update, I was able to remove ubuntu and combined the partition with windows, and restore the mbr using easyBCD (Highly recommend it)

How can I make sure that windows recognizes my computer as a dell inspiron one 2305?

My laptop system info shows a different version than what i actually have. Its messing with drivers. Most importantly the display driver where the screen is possible of 1080 resolution but i am only able to go up to 1366x768p. I don't know what to do at this point. Could a system reinstallation "fix" this?

Well my computer doesn't turn on anymore. It was working fine and then the power cord of the surge got unplugged from the outlet. Needless to say the comp wont turn on anymore. I was wondering if its the psu or the mobo that has messed up. When I plug in the comp the steady power light turns on, on the mobo which i assume it means it receiving some type of power. But when I press the power button the led lights of comp flash on and then turn back off. So does anybody know if its the psu or the mobo that is damaged?

A:Comp Wont Turn ON is it the PSU or the Mobo

Probably Power Supply (hard to say really)

Just for a quick option:

Remove the power cord
Hold the On button in for 30 secs (releasing all internal voltage)
Put the power cord back in (securely)
Turn on (I hope)

i have 3 processors!i am a bit stuck on which processor would be my best bet to build a good gaming computer with, they might be old but i reckon i could use one of them as i need to watch my pennys!il start with the newest to the oldest.i have no mobo's and need some advice on a good mobo and some good hardware,as i have 2 40gb hard drives and an old phillips cd/dvd burner!should i buy local in ireland or does it matter?does anyone know of some really good websites that sell comp parts.

1. intel Pentium 4 531 SL8HZ MALAY 3.00GHZ/1M/800/04A
2.Intel Pentium 4 2.80 GHZ/1M/800/04A SL7PR MALAY
3.Intel Pentium 4 2001,2.66ghz/512/533,sl6pe china

I think its between 1 and 2 and i think 1 would be the strongest and fastest but i need some advice!thanks alot!

A:Which processor and mobo for gaming comp?

Its likely the first one, as has the highest clock speed. However, none of them are really going to be very useful for gaming on all the very oldest of games.

Some more information is required on the sorts of games you wish to play before even spending some money, as what your hoping for might not be possible for the budget you have in mind.

Buying in Ireland, or online is fine.

When i search any CD in my new WinXP installation, it is adding the user profile path to the actual path of the file being searched on the CD.

Eg: Actual file location is G:\Stuff\test.txt

Search shows wrong the path as below:

C:\Documents and Settings\Siva\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\CD Burning\Stuff\test.txt

Also, the file becomes inaccessible from the search results page.

I wonder that this could be a virus. But when i searched using antivirus, no virus is found.

Kindly help me in resolving this error.

I had a video issue today and while looking at the Intel MB site, noticed my BIOS was out of date. I downloaded the Express (exe) file and tried to update my BIOS from 0123 to 0133, one year date apart. Problem is, Intel BIOS update program shows successful... but when I view sys info it still reports old version. Yes, rebooted to BIOS and same-o, same-o. It lies to me.

Question: Do I have to break my RAID mirror to do a BIOS update? That's the only thing I can think of that might be the issue.

A:Intel BIOS update shows successful, but sys info reports no change

Is there an actual reason you want to update the BIOS. If your BIOS is working without any problems just leave it alone. You can completely brick your motherboard by messing around with the BIOS. Just because a later version maybe available doesn't mean you should update it.

So now when I try to boot windows from my c drive all I get is a command prompt saying grub reset.
I have no idea what to do, please help!

A:Ubuntu kills comp, grub reset screen only shows

Welcome to Seven Forums and Happy New Year.
Could you clarify the following?
Are both Ubuntu and Windows on the same HDD or are they on different HDD's?
What was the order of installation -was it Windows first then Ubuntu or the other way round?
Can you log into Ubuntu? Are you able to mount and access Windows from within Ubuntu?
Also have a look at this SF tutorial - Dual Boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu

If you want to revert to Windows altogether, then have a look at this tutorial - MBR - Restore Windows 7 Master Boot Record

Look forward to your advice and regards

After apparently one of my motherboards decided to stop working I decided to upgrade my computer, and finally learn how to build one myself.

A bit of backstory on this:
Since I have warranty on the old motherboard, they took it in order to test it but they have not managed to test it yet. Basically over the course of the week before it died I kept having more and more hangs and missed POSTs, and eventually it stopped POSTing every time. Either way once we opened it up we found one of the little fans (probably the southbridge cooler, I'm not sure) stopped working. The keyboard also was not receiving power, but the motherboard LED would power on. (OTT the motherboard was an A8N-SLI)

Now, I bought a e8400, 2X1gigs of 667mhz patriot ram, and a P5KPL-CM motherboard. I specifically wanted a microATX board since I probably will buy a LANbox later on.

Now this is the first time I'm putting something together, but I've done a LOT of reading up on this subject and used the utmost care when putting it together.

While I was putting it together I realized that one of the screwholes on the motherboard did not have a corresponding spacer hole under it. I decided to leave it without a screw, thinking it is unimportant.

The LG775 cooler was kind of hard to push in though, I was worried I might crack the board pressing it down!

Now once everything was put together I plugged it in, pressed the power button, and heard a small chirp. Oh dear.

A:Upgraded comp will not start. Mobo LED lights up.

IF the cpu heatsink is not properly attached boot failure is likely (actually, it is the Intel CPU thermal protection shutdown action that is happening).

I just replaced my old board, processor, and memory in my backup comp with an MSI K8T Neo-V board, AMD Athlon 3800, and 1gb memory. I got it all set up, and powered it on, but the fans kicked for a sec, and the power LED flashed on, but went off almost instantly. I re-seated everything, and unplugged all unnecessary devices (HDD's, etc), and it still did the same thing. I'm thinking it might be power supply, but it worked immediately before the upgrade. Any thoughts?

hi, new user, i came here with the direst need. for months my new system worked like a dream, but suddenly it stopped working. at first it was giving me a beep code that meant the ram was bad-or not present- but i put it in another board and it worked fine. then i discovered my board has some problems with certain brands of ram operating at 800mhz, so i clocked it back to 667 and it worked fine for a few days. now, it boots up to windows, gets a few minutes in, and then freezes or restarts (it just restarts, i can hear the drives spinning up, but i get no display). the temp is high, but well within limits (around 40 at boot, rising to 50 at windows), ive done everything i know to do. i suspected at first it was the mobo, but now im suspicious of the power supply. please help! im at wits end here !!

A:Help! comp stopped working, suspect its mobo

Post your system specs. Some brands of motherboards just wont work with certain brands of RAM.

I recently lost my ASUS P8Z68 Pro Gen 3 and replaced it with a AsRock Z77 Extreme 4. I put all my old components on the new board (2600K w/ H220, 16GB Ripjaws, Corsair Extreme SSD 250 GB w/ Win 7 and two WD 1Tb SATA HDD in RAID 0).

All went well. When I was done the RAID 0 drive was fine but I found out if I shut the computer off and turn it back on the raid drive disappears in windows. If I shut down the computer and hit F2 to go into the bios, the raid drives show up on the on the display for a moment as it is loading before it goes into the bios and then it enters the bios. I exit the bios without saving and the raid 0 drive shows up fine in windows. If I shut the computer off and don't hit F2 the raid drive will not show up. What is happening...I do not even save anything in the BIOS?

The scenario will then repeat. Why is the raid setup not "sticking/saving"?

Thanks for the help.

We have seen nothing but problems here with RAID ever since before Win7 was even released. I cannot remember a single good report on RAID but the problems including massive data loss continue. It isn't even Redundant (the first letter of its name) since many lose mirrored data. So why not install normally to one hard drive and use the secondary as a scheduled backup drive for file and image backup?

Hello, I've been reading many posts of people having similar problems on Google for the past 2 days but no success for myself.

Basically my mother and sister tried using the computer yesterday morning while I was out. They said it froze and so they tried restarting it, but while restarting it simply hangs at the screen after the initial motherboard logo screen. It shows my hard drives and PCI Listing information etc in white writing on a black background.
I can access the BIOS and boot method (like if I wanted to boot from floppy etc) but I cannot access advanced boot options so I can go into safe mode, it wont get that far, just freezes. I cannot do a reinstall of windows as I dont have a disk or key.

I have replaced the cmos battery and restored it from BIOS without any luck, it still hangs. All I want to do now is jut get to adv boot options for safe mode but it just freezes. I've also swapped ram around etc so its not that, I can see from the BIOS the CPU is fine also aswell as my video card. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I need this sorting as soon as possible as I work and receive my income through this computer (allot of important files).

A:PC stuck at boot info screen (after mobo logo) please advise

Just an update, I'm back from college, and basically I was able to get an xp disk. Anyway I put it in computer and pressed f12 to choose to boot from the CD/DVD drive, and all it did was hang at the same screen again with the error message:

"A disk read error occurred
Press ctrl+apt+del to restart"

Also even if I just leave it to boot normal, it says the exact same thing "A disk read error occured". They checked the disk at college to see if it worked and it did so the disk read error isn't the disk, its almost as if it's just totally ignored the disk boot? I'm confused now, if I can't boot from a disk then that rules out Linux too I guess.
