Core 2 Duo e6750 Running hot

Q: Core 2 Duo e6750 Running hot

Hey people, I've been having a little trouble, you see I would really like to overclock my CPU, which after reading a number of other forum threads would be fine on stock cooling past 3GHz. The problem is though, my CPU seems to run way hotter than everybody else's on stock cooling. I've read of people getting up to easily past 3GHz on stock cooling barely breaking 60C if even that. But I've been testing mine at stock settings using CPU Stability Test 6.0 and Core Temp 0.99.4, and after about 3 mins of the stability test it settled at around 74C on core1 and 70C on core2. Now I'm worried that if I overclock it's going to run dangerously hot. Does anybody have any suggestions or things to check other than buying a new cooler? If not, then I will likely consider buying one, because it just seems to be running at least 10-20C hotter than everyone else with the exact same setup. Anyway, thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Check the heatsink's four mounting points to see if they are solidly in. If any of them have come loose, it will lose enough contact with the CPU to let it overheat. If any are loose, while you can pop it back in for the time being, you should eventually remove it, clean it, reapply thermal compound and reinstall it.

I just ordered new Computer yesterday and im waiting for all the stuff to get in from newegg. and i was wondering if i made a good choice on buying a 6750? My supervisor said that this was a great chip and that he was thinking of putting it into one of his machines. I have high tech level but can someone tell me whats up with this chip and what is Intels " revisions " on it so it will make more sense to me. i know that it has a higher front bus at 1333MHz. but what are the other things ?? ?

A:Core 2 Duo E6750. Knowledge???

well there really are no other things good about it really, its just a revamped 6700. Bad thing I see occuring is that your overclock is limited to your mobo. Unless you're buying a board that can get 1900 fsb. What's the point? Also, even then you could put a 6700 on the same mobo and get a higher overclock because the multiplier is higher and the native fsb is lower. So it leaves more head room for fsb increase. Of course you'd have to have the right cooling as well.

i have a board on the way that has 1333mhz fsb, and a core 2 duo that is 1333mhz

here is what the newegg specs for it say
FSB 800/1066/1333MHz
FSB1333MHz CPU Will Operate In Overclocking Mode

am i still overclocking it if it is a 1333 cpu?

while im asking that, im getting 2 gigs of ddr2 800mhz. so does that mean even though the cpu is 1066 (or 1333 for that matter) will it be bottlenecked to the 800mhz of memory?

ive never really understood the relation between memory speed and fsb. my old athlon xp was fsb 333 with ddr 400 so i dont know

A:new intel core 2 duo e6750

not really mate but your system will run at 800mhz , your ram will hold it back , if its good quality ram youll be able to o/c it , you'll have plenty of headroom.

but as for the bottleneck , yes there is one but dont worry about it , you can buy 1333mhz ram but the performance increase vs the extra cash aint worth it.....unless your a die hard overclocker like me ;0)

A:Will my core 2 duo e6750 bottleneck a ati 5770 and NV gtx 460

It depends on the game. It will bottleneck on CPU intensive games (i.e. GTA IV), but it will run great on GPU intensive games like Crysis. You can always overclock your CPU, at least on 3GHz, if you have a good cooler.

I am debating whether to buy and Intel Core 2 Duo e6750/e6850 or AMD Athlon AMD FX-62. I am leaning toward the AMD, but I want to know how to overclock both and overclock my memory. I will buy a Zalman CNPS 9700 to keep it cool. Could someone help me overclock it?

A:Overclocking AMD Athlon FX-62 or Core 2 Duo e6750

The very first rule of overclocking; do not overclock with parts you cannot afford to replace.

The next thing [if you decide you can replace your parts] is to start reading and learning. Overclocking requires high end parts so do not expect to overclock with say a pcchips motherboard, cheap power supply etc.

It would help if you posted links to the parts you intend to purchase.

A:How to overclock intel core 2 duo e6750 to 3.0ghz

For things like this, Google is your friend. What you want has a lot of permutations and you are going to have to sort it out for yourself. You need to understand how the processor is clocked, how the motherboard busses are clocked, and how the memory is clocked. Your ability to overclock will be limited by the individual components (all of em) that you have - and they're all just a little bit different - so how far you can overclock and what is the best way to overclock will vary according to how they respond.

I will tell you this. Focus more on the processor and less on the memory. Overclocking memory will give minimal gains, if the processor is set up correctly.

I'm having an issue with my CPU. It seems that it is only using one of its cores. This issue first became apparent to me when I was trying to run Blacklight Retribution. It popped up a warning message saying that my computer does not meet the minimum requirements of have at least a dual core. And indeed the game was unplayable, with single digit fps constantly.

However when i go to the performance tab of my task manager it shows 4 graphs, meaning that 4 cores must be running. Then I go the boot tab of my systems configuration, click on advanced options and underneath the "Number of Processors:" check box (which is unchecked), it shows 1 as the number of processors.

My processor is an Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.60GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.6GHz.

These seem to be conflicting and I'm not sure what to do. Please help me.

According to PC Wizard 2006, both my cores on my core 2 duo e6300 are running at 100degrees celcius. PCW also sais that my ram is running at 333mhz even though its 667mhz ram...?

Any ideas on the cause/solution for this?

A:Why is my core 2 duo e6300 cpu running at 100c and my 667 ram running at 333mhz?

DDR2 667 = 333.33 x2 = 667MHz. It is showing the true speed of your ram, but as it is DDR2, it is "double pumped" to an effective speed of 667mhz.

Also, your temps are too high. You should be in the 60c range. Check in your bios to see if it is also showing high temp readings there. It could also be an out of date bios, but if your temps really are that high, you'll want to reseat that CPU with some new thermal paste.

No, not correct. That board supports 6 core cpus with a bios update. You must have 2005 or later to support the cpu.

If you are running a bios that does support that cpu, then list ALL of your specs ie brand and wattage of pw supply, brand, speed, and amount of ram, what video card is installed, etc, etc.

A:Is my Intel Core Duo Running too hot?

Read other 9 answers

First of all, I am curious what the difference is between the 2 CPU readings as one is nice and cool while the other is ridiculously hot.

I am using a Core I7 processor with the heatsink and fan that it comes with. How is it running this hot? I just re-seated it and cleaned all of the dust out without any luck.

Note that these readings are when the CPU is fully loaded, not idling. I used speedfan to make all of my CPU related fans always on max as well which also changed nothing.

Is there anything I can do other than buying some watercooling system or new components?

I'm very worried about it

Just look at this image:

It is running WAY too hot. All my case fans are running @ 100%, the CPU fan runs above 2000 RPM's, and my room temp is about 72F (gets up to 90F or a bit more in summer).

My Vcore is running normal, I just overclocked my CPU to E6400 speeds (1.8 Ghz stock).

What should I do? Reduce my overclock, reseat the ****ing Intel HSF, or what?

I don't want to kill my precious CPU

Any advice?

EDIT: I measured the temp using CoreTemp, and I've got mixed results:

Intel's TAT reports worse temperatures, while Core Temp shows better ones. What program should I trust?

A:My Core 2 Duo E4300 is running too hot :(

DAMN that is hot! Try getting more cooling in there ASAP and downclocking the frequency. Also, try keeping the PC away from direct sunlight, since that causes the air in the case to heat up.

I had another break down yesterday while swapping out an under voltage PSU for one that was up to scratch. Now in doing so I have put enough pressure on the large Arctic Freezer 13 Pro cooler to break what I found to be a VERY flimsy retaining bracket.
This allowed the Intel Q9650 to run away and I didn't notice it for some time as the cooler tower looked to be in place and it wasn't until things started to go ape that I knew something was up.

Now i have it up and running again reinstalled the OS and find it is running very slowly have redone the compound twice now but the temp is still reaching 70C during say a MBAM scan plus Core Temp is now reporting only one core.

So not having this problem before can a quad core run on one only?

Mt other query is that I use this machine to test other softwares before using them on my man machines and if I have to would this set up be ok for just general use?
I intend using the case although I cannot access the backside of the motherboard for a back plate for instance the PSU is ok and I have a stack of DDR3 RAM I can use
With a budget in mind the parts in question are $280 all up

Intel Pentium G2130
ASUS H61M-A-USB3 Motherboard
CoolerMaster Hyper T4 CPU Cooler
ASUS GeForce GT 620 1GB or Gigabyte GeForce GT 610 Silent 1GB (I could possibly do without this so $600 less)

From what I have read no processor should really go above like 70ish under FULL load.
thanks in advance for any suggestions

A:Core i7-720 running extremely hot

i7s (and nearly all other nahelem processors) will run hotter than previous generations of quad-core cpus, especially inside a laptop. i don't think you have too much to worry about, but if you have access to the processor without to much disassembly you may want to consider applying a more conductive thermal compound, to suppress the heat a bit more. you may also want to check if the cooling fan is working properly like you said.

Snapmit, can you upload the .dmp file? Just copy it from the minidump folder and zip it up. That is unreadable.

Also, this may be either a heat problem or incompatible BIOS. Make sure that your temps are reasonable.

I then loaded it up with 3 multimedia programs doing stuff and got both cores working 100%. The temperatures rocketed from 42 Deg C at idle to a massive 70 Deg C. At which point I stopped all programs. The core temp then feel quickly back to 42 Deg C.
Could someone advise me what to do? I know there are many retail fans out there that are better than the AMD stock coolers, but surely the AMD's should at least keep the thing from melting???

Upon fresh boot, 4 CPU is running at 100% for 65 min?
Thanks for suggestions to my postings!

When I start up my computer, I notice that the HDD LED is constantly in the ON state, as oppose to the usual blinking. When the HDD LED stays on constantly, it pretty much indicates, to me, that the CPU running at 100%. At this point, Key board/mouse won't respond.

I opened Task Manager and no other programs were active at this time. I find all (4 core) CPU at 100%. I find task manager at high CPU use. Even if I close task manager CPU usage is not coming down.

I did adjust the affinity for task manager, but no improvement.

I ran sfc /scannow, chkdsk. Nothing reported .

What am I missing here?

Is there a way to get memory dump/memory snapshot to figure out, what is going on?

Is it possible for some programs to run without showing up in task manager?

Thanks for sharing.

I just put together my new computer, but it's acting strange at times. The computer has the following:

MB: Asus P5K WiFi-AP
CPU: Core 2 Duo 6420
RAM: 2 GB OCZ Dual Channel 1066 Hz (2 x 1 GB DIMM)
GPU: XFX GeForce 8800 GTS

I just put it together and installed windows, so there are no programs on it except the drivers for the hardware and the ASUS utilities provided with my mother board. It starts up nice and quickly, but shortly after windows starts, the computer becomes sluggish for a few seconds (The cursor stutters as it moves, etc), then returns to normal. The odd thing is that there are no programs running, and the process list shows nothing in the background is using the processor, but one of the processors is completely occupied. It always does this shortly after startup, and sometimes does this later on too, though there doesn't seem to be any reason. I included some screen shots that have more information.

A:Intel Core 2 sometimes sluggish with nothing running

Ok, well, the problem seems to be "fixed". (Knocks on wood!) I went through and disabled as many startup options as I could, and it didn't seem to help. I unistalled as many of the drivers as i could and basically stripped it down to a nearly fresh install, also to no avail. So I reformatted and reinstalled XP, and it seems to be fine now. I've reinstalled the drivers (but not any of the utility programs) one by one trying to find out which one caused the computer to lag, and none of them created any problems. So as far as I can tell, it was either one of the ASUS utility programs, or it was some kind of fluke!

Hello! I was decided to buy the E6750 but right now I've seen a great deal to get the Q6600 for about the same price, my only concern is that Q6600 has a FSB of 1066mhz and the E6750 a 1333mhz and the 2.4ghz vs 2.66ghz respectively, I think those are the main specs where the E6750 beats the Q6600, but I think a Quad Core is much better than a Dual Core, please correct me if I'm wrong. Is the Q6600 a lot better than E6750?

Sup all, A friend of mine has a Phenom II X2 550, that he Unlocked to a Quad Core.
Then in MSCONFIG, i Enabled all 4 Processors upon boot up.
He restarted, and lines appeared throughout the POST screen and the resolution in windows was set to low.
So he immediately reverted back to one core.
Then he tried to play Call of duty world at war and was experiencing Low Fps and allot of lag.
Some games wont even Load.

CPU-Z shows 1 Core.
Windows Device manager Shows 4,
Resource Monitor shows activity on all 4 Processors,
The BIOS shows 4.......

Tried a system Restore.
The latest Drivers have been installed for Mo/BO.

Any 1 Any Suggestions.
Could Changing the Start up have killed the other 3 cores??

I know that the official release notes of .NET Core is not supporting Windows XP. I assume that it is not supported as the OS is already in obsolete mode. Is there any chance to run .NET Core apps on Windows XP? We have a huge installed base on customer

Okay sorry bout my last post, but i did buy a new computer now ^w^

Though anyways im asking this, I noticed that you can set up a gaming server (Dedicated of course) And leave it running, Though of course my new computer could do pretty well with it, i though the task would be best kept with it running on it's own on my older Core 2 Duo E7300

The program im likely going to be using for running the gaming server is SRCDS (source/valve games of course) And if the core 2 duo is good enough im hopefully going to be wanting to runnn, say 2-3 servers at once if it can cope?

(RAM is 4GB btw)

I also got the thing as i noticed a post around someone saying they ran a server fine with a ancient athlon or something like that.

A:Running a Gaming server using a core 2 duo computer?

Your server will be mostly limited by your internet bandwidth.

My computer is fairly powerfull, at least enough to run a sever 24/7.
However my connection is barely 5Mbps, this only lets me support 4 players in say. A minecraft server, if anymore join lag and tearing appears for my users.

Since I don't want to pay extra to get more speed, paying someone else to host my server is way cheaper at a month to month basis. 10 dollars a month.

Something to consider.

I was not sure which area to post this, so please move the thread if it should not be here.

My computer has been running EXTREMELY slow lately, from just running 1 simple video game, and a couple if IE screens. I know something is wrong. Im not sure if its a virus, or if I need to defrag, or disk clean up, or what. I have Microsoft Security Essentials installed but not sure if it is working like it should. Just wanting to know where I should start. any and all help is greatly appreciated. thanks.

A Gateway FX6860 desktop with an Intel Core i7-2600 processor and 8 GB of RAM definitely shouldn't be running slow, so let's check a few things.

Go here to download and save Malwarebytes AdwCleaner to your desktop.
If you get a warning that this file is unsafe, ignore the warning.
Close all open windows first, then double-click the AdwCleaner.exe desktop icon to load its main window.
Click the "Scan" button, then allow the scanning process to finish.
Several seconds may pass before the scanning process starts and completes, so be patient.
If any threats are found, the number found will appear in red.
Click the "Logfile" button.
When the log appears, save it.
Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE log here.
After you submit the log, close Malwarebytes AdwCleaner.
If a warning appears, click "Yes".

Go here, then click the "Download Now @ Author's Site" button to download and save TFC.exe (Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer) to your desktop.
After it's downloaded and saved, close all open windows.
Double-click it to load its main window.
Click the "Start" button.
If there are a large number of temp files or if there are multiple user accounts, the temp file deletion process may appear to freeze and may take a few minutes, so don't interfere with or abort it.
After it's finished, restart the computer if prompted to.
Advise how many temp files in MB's were found and deleted.

Hi guys,

I think my Core i5 2500K is running too hot and causing a BSOD in Handbrake when encoding large files. I've been leaving my PC on overnight to recode some MKVs for my Plex server, but every couple of nights it will turn itself off or reboot after what is apparently a BSOD error.

The main error report I see when logging back into Windows says:

I started another file encoding on Handbrake and then ran HWMonitor to check the temps. The CPU is running at over 90C, which seems pretty bad to me. I turned off Handbrake and the temps immediately dropped to 50C. You can see what HWMonitor was showing under load here:

I have uploaded the full HWMonitor.txt report here.

A:Core i5 2500K running hot, causing BSOD 124?

No readable DMP included.
Do it this way...

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

I have settled on the e6750 as for now it's a decent processor that when overclocked seems to more or less hit the same wall as the e6850 at the 3.8 ghz mark on air. But to be honest I would probably only want to clock it to the same 3.0 ghz as the e6850 and even then maybe not at all.
The Q6600 seems to not perform as well in games due to the lower clock speed and the extra 2 cores don't seem to be of benefit - yet.
I keep looking for benchmarks that compare the Q6600 to C2D and the only game at present seems to be Supreme commander that utilises the other 2 cores ( well in most cases it was an extra 1 core). But more importantly the benchmarks from different sources seem to contradict each other. I saw one bench where a e6400 was only 1fps slower than the Q6600 and another where the Q6600 was 20% better than t... Read more

"GOOD" and under $10 don't mix... Where are you going to put 4 120mm fans? They are big, and I doubt if your case has room for 4. Maybe 2 will fit
