Unable to access workgroup templates with Office 97

Steps to point word and powerpoint to use templates:
--If not mapped to correct share -- then map
--Open Word
--Tools
--Options
--File Location
--Select Workgroup templates
--Modify
--Select template share
--Close
--File
--New
--Template folders in share should appear as tabs

I have noticed with Office 2k that when you select LAN share only the letter is show (ex. T:\)
With office 97 the share name shows (ex. \\cwsfs2\templates)

Error with Office 97 when going to File - New
Cannot open the template in the Workgroup Template location you selected.

Any ideas on how to fix

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've tried all options, that Microsoft suggested, ActiveX confirmed, Media/Template confirmed, etc. Some folks in my office can download, other's can not. We are using Office 2007 Pro Plus, any ideas? Also, we're on Active Directory, but I wouldn't think that would have a role in this downloading problem, since we're all in the same domain & groups, as least we're supposed to be for our department.

I have 2 PC's both running XP Pro. I have a Lynx's Wireless router model BEFW11S4. I have one computer with EtherFast 10/100 Lan Card and 1 PCI wireless card. Both computers connect to the internet via the Lynx's cable modem. I am able to connect to the internet with no problems on both computers.
The problem is that I am unable to connect to the workgroup on each computer. I go to network places and show workgroup computers and it tells me that the workgroup is not available, and that I may not have permissions to access that workgroup. Whats weird is that on the wireless computer, in the system tray it shows that the computer is connected to the workgroup. Although when the wireless PC comes up, it does not make the connection to the workgroup until I manually connect. It says because the WEP setting is not set, it won't auto connect. So I configured the WEP setting, and the PC would not even connect to the internet then.

My goal is to be able to share files on each computer in the shared files folder and the printer on the wireless computer and make sure both can connect to the internet. I have gone to the share files and security and made the shared documents folder shared, and I still can't see anybody. I am also unable to see the other computer from the computer I am on.

Please give detailed instructions or questions.

Thanks.

Since then I have not been able to see/share/ping with any of the computers, which are all in the same workgroup. Also If i try to set up a Homegroup on the 3 Windows 7 pcs after creating a homegroup then trying to join it on a 2nd pc the message There is currently no homegroup on the network is displayed. My knowledge of networking is small. The networking Trouble Shooter gives a 'Your computer appears to be correctly configured but the DNS Server is not responding'. The Homegroup troubleshooter cannot find a problem on either machine. I have no problems connecting to the Internet from any machine. Any help would be greatfully appreciated.

I seem to remember using MS Word Template files where I could set things like margins, headers fonts etc and save such a template and add it to the right click > New menu. This is going back some time mind, late '90's perhaps...

The beauty of this method was as you could never override the template itself you were greeted with the open doc and at close you were prompted for a 'save-as' and location. The default action of the right click > New MS Word Doc simply creates a "New Microsoft Word Document" in whatever directory you happen to be in.

Is this still possible with Office365 and if so how?

TIA

This is what I did:

File / New
under templates I browsed through "Reports" category and selected "Report with Professional theme"

I've downloaded that template and I used only defined styles. There's a problem though on the first page: I want it to be completely clear but it has a solid 1px line at the bottom (maybe that's footer?)
I'm losing my mind trying to get rid of it with no luck. Can anyone suggest me how to get rid of it? I still want to use this template and all of its styles, and I've written way too much pages to transplant it in a new template.

This is how the solid line looks like:

Hello all,

In my office we have all the office templates on a shared network drive. When I customize an employee's computers i always have microsoft point to that directory for workgroup and user templates.

However, typically, on a working machine, after this is done, an "add-in" bar is created in the ribbon and is available to select to invoke these templates.

Lately, i have tried everythin to get this add-in bar to re-appear. Such as:

-Relocating the files from the network drive to the local drive
-Duplicating copies of the templates to the MS office startup folder in program files.
im at a loss here because it seems as though in the past when i had done this (correctly) i was never thoroughly thinking about my methods (as though one day it suddenly wouldnt work the same way) and now im doing exactly the same process, yet cant get the templates to appear in the add-ins tool bar.

edit: essentially, after i point the location of the templates to that directory, nothing happens. obviously the locations are correct, but no add-in bar. and no way to invoke them.

Hi,
I reinstalled MS Office 2K Pro. I have my own created templates which I insert (in its own folder) in with the MS templates. This has always worked fine before. Mine are sitting in C-Drive, Programmes, MS Office, Templates.

I noticed that now when I go to insert or open a new template in Word, mine are not showing in the list. I open Word, then go to the Top Left-hand corner - File - New, this is where the templates usually open up or are situated. I only see the regular docs but not my own templates. All I see now is the regular, Memos, Faxes, etc. I Can't think what is different to when I have reinstalled Office before?

Please can anyone help me out? Please?

A:Solved: Templates in Office 2000 Pro not showing

Your templates (your own specific" templates) are not located in "C-Drive, Programmes, MS Office, Templates"
Instead that should be in:
"C:\Documents and Settings\<yourName>\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates
That is the default location.

Placing them there, you will see them listed under the New Office Document "General" tab.

IF, instead, you place a folder there, of whatever name, then they become a <whatever> tab selection ONLY is there is some file(s) (templates) there.

That means, just making a ""C:\Documents and Settings\<yourName>\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\whatever" folder does not make the "whatever" tab appear. You must place something inside of it.

Open it, then "save as", rename it(check extension type). You have new sheet as well as template.
Templates are used as starting points, not modifiers.

I think we have been over this infuriating topic before.  In my previous version of Word (2007) I had an Avery add-on that appeared in the header and when selected provided a menu of templates, by number, from which one could select any template one wanted.

I now have Word 2013 (as part of Office 365) and have installed an Avery add-on which instead of providing a menu allows you to search for online templates.  I want to use Template 5160 (for address labels 8160, so the 8160 template would do just as well).  When I type that into the selection window I get a whole slew of "decorated" label versions but nothing like a plain 5160 which is what I want.  I do not want "decorated" labels on my business correspondence, yet Avery offers me nothing else.  Maddening.

So what do I have to do?  Uninstall the Avery add-on, and install the older version (if I can still find the disk?).  Get rid of Word 2013?  I don't really want to do that because I want to maintain compatibility among the various computers I use, and the ones in the office use Office 365.  What do I have to do to be able to print plain-Jane business labels on Avery label sheets using an identifiable template?

I gather that many others have had the same problem.  Is the answer simply to ditch Avery altogether?  I'd hate to do that because I use it for printing business cards (customized for each of our employees) as well as for printing labels.

I installed Windows 7 Professional.
I entered Audit Mode (which automatically logged me in as the built-in Administrator user) and installed the entire Office 2013 Professional Plus suite.
In Audit Mode, I opened Word 2013 to get through the "new user" prompts, such as the opening movie that plays in all Office 2013 programs. I did this to ensure that any new users who log into the computer would not need to sit through these "new user" prompts.

I have a one year old Toshiba Touch Screen, running Windows 7 and Microsoft Office Pro 2003. I am protected by AVG Premium Security: anti virus, link scanner, email protection, firewall, identity alert/protection.
Suddenly all the custom Word templates that I have created have become corrupted with the date being displayed as { DATE \@ "dddd, dd MMMM yyyy" }. Even when I attempt to insert a date in a new, blank (non custom created) document, it is displayed similarly.
The email address area displays an historic email address that is no longer in existence and is prefaced { HYPERKLINK mailto: ...............}
I have no idea why this corruption has occurred and wonder whether I should reinstall the Office Pro 2003 software; might this solve the problem?
In any event, I would like to know why such a corruption should suddenly occur and what might have caused it - might it happen again? I have never experienced this type of error in almost a quarter of a century using stand alone computers.

I would add that I created this question in a Word document and when I cut and pasted it into this message, the date and email addresses were correctly formatted, although I had typed them in their 'program style form' as above, so I am even more confused and bemused!

I shall be really grateful for any help.

I changed a standard word template that appeared in 'Available Templates' on Word 2010 to suit my needs. I followed some online advice about saving the new/amended template as a Word template in 'My Templates'.

However, whatever I did, I couldn't save the template there and had to save it in 'My Documents' instead. Can anyone tell me how to transfer the saved template from My Documents into My Templates on Word?

A:How To Move Saved New Templates From My Documents To My Templates?

I use Word 2013, but I think they are very similar. See if following this method works.

Open Word, select File, then Options & then select Save as shown in the screen shot.
You will probably have to set up a Folder in your Documents Library, which you can name whatever suits you.
When you have done that you will need to set up the path for Word to be able to find your new Folder. You could use the same path as the one for your Word Documents, but change the part necessary to point to where your new Template Folder is.

You should then be able to copy your saved Template that is in your Word documents & paste it into the new Folder. If everything works then you can delete the one in your documents.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION (RD 1ST):

There are 4 computers in our office, here are generic names for our issue at hand:

HAS01 -- with win 2000
HAS02 -- with win 2000
HAS03 -- with win 2000
HAS04 -- with win 98se

wokgroup name -- has_lung

We have setup an office workgroup, where all 4 computers have access to eachother's harddrives, and printers.

HERE IS THE PROBLEM:

At one of our community offices, one of our users (HAS02) switched offices with another user (HAS04), and doing so, HAS02 also switched all of her computer equipment (tower, printer, monitor) with HAS04. As a result, HAS03, and HAS04 cannot access anyones harddrive through the network anymore. However HAS01 can access everyone's harddrive. HAS02 can only access HAS04's harddrive

I have walked HAS02 through the process of ensuring that each user is logging in with their correct username and password, as well as ensuring that each username is correctly added to each computer.

I have also verified that each computer's harddrive is being shared, as well as ensuring that each computer is accessing the correct workgroup (has_lung).

Each computer can access the Internet (no loose wires), as well, printer sharing, and file access in enabled on all computers.

Does anyone know what the HELL is going on?? Even if you do a simple office swap (where all the equipment is switched as well), there shouldnt be any problems with the file access, and printer sharing????

The office would like to move away from the domain environment and just utilize Workgroup on all 4 PC's. Once the NT server is replaced with te XP Pro PC/Server and the Domain is gone, how can the 2 PC's that were connected to the NT Server via Domain retain their user data/information? Or, will I need to reinstall everything under a Workgroup?

A:Office is moving from Domain environment to Workgroup, need some advice

It depends, if you were running programs that ran from a database from the NT box then you will need to install the server side on the new XP box. For the clients usually just remapping the shared drive does the trick.

For shared documents just move them all the the new XP box and re-setup the sharing and permissions.

Hi nathanmock,

What OS for servers and what OS for workgroup computers are we talking about here?

You say you are having problems setting up the workgroup, so I gather that the workgroup has never been yet successfully established and actually worked - is that correct?

How big of a network of computers are we talking about here? Are the workgroup computers on the same network segment or different segments?

Have you setup the workgroup accounts using the group policy editor?

In the meantime, you can try the following if you are up to it, and if the workgroup of computers has worked in the past.

If its a small network (lets say 5-10 computers max), I would shutdown all of the computers, shutdown the network, bring up the network, then bring up the computers or reverse the last two steps as an alternative if at first it does not work.

Both machines are running XP. Permissions were never set. I can connect any other PC (including my new laptop running Windows 7) to the workgroup but not this particular PC. It has to be something within the PC itself but I am lost.

The workgroup is called WELDON. I have exhausted all the settings I know to check.

Please help! Thank you!

I have a problem when I try to change my workgroup name in Windows XP.

Start / Setting / Control Panel / System
or Right Click on "my computer" / Properties

Then I go in Computer's name. In there, the line with the "Network ID" button is disable. (not normal) (Even if I log as the administrator) (see first picture attached)

Then I go to the "Modified..." button and I can't choose a domain or workgroup, or change the name of them (even if I log in as the administrator) (see 2nd picture)

(Sorry about the pictures. I've only a French version of Windows XP but I provide a english translation to understand it anyway. )

About my network settings, My computer has a wireless adapter which it connect to a router (Linksys G (don't remember the model)) which 2 others computers are wired connected to it. From my wireless computer I can ping them. I can play network games with. But with the neighborhood, the wired computers can see each other even my wireless computer. But from my computer, i can't see the others computers. So I taught by changing my workgroup name it would help to reset the neighborhood. But I can't change it.

If someone can help me, it will be very appreciable. Thank you

Please help on a Win XP Home PC that is not able to see itself or other PCs in the LAN. "Workgroup is not accessible"
Accessing Internet is no problem.
Other PCs in the LAN can not see the rogue PC.
The router is pingable, but attempts to ping itself or other LAN PCs time out.
I can ping 127.0.0.1
If I boot safe mode there is not a problem.
I have disabled Windows firewall and Norton.
MSCONFIG used to take out startup items and services but still no joy.
ICMP incoming echo is enabled.
I have done a repair install of Windows and SFC/scannow.
Same problem on a newly created XP account.

Thanks
JS

A:Unable to ping self or other workgroup members

can you ping where you can go on the internet? Could be dns issues.....

do an ipconfig /all on a working pc and on the rogue, and see what's different. Probably something small like netbios settings or wins or some damn little thing.

you running static or dhcp?

This is a clean install of Vista on a Gateway notebook, using the OS CD supplied by Gateway.

System is a Intel Core 2 Dou 1.83 CPU with 4GB of RAM.

320GB harddrive, the C Drive is about 75GB after repartitioning it.

The install of Vista went smoothly and I have updated everything via Windows Update.

My problem is that I can not change the name of the network workgroup from "WORKGROUP" to "HOME".

When I get in there to do it it lets me make the change, but when I click OK to save it I get the following error...

"The following error occurred validating the name "STEVE-LAPTOP".
A general network error occurred."

I tried doing it in safe mode and it is greyed out there I can't even type in a new name.

Thanks;
Steve

My first post here, and potentially a long one but I'll try to keep it brief as I (desperately) need help! One of the main problems is that the symptoms are different every time the computer boots up, thereby making it difficult to describe as what happens sometimes does not happen other times.

The problem is basically that my laptop, the main machine from which I work, cannot connect to my server and nothing I have tried has fixed the problem.

The network:

"Managed" by an ADSL router with NAT / DCHP etc. There are 3 clients. They are all set to acquire settings via DCHP. Several IP addresses are reserved by MAC address so the machines retain them always and there is a small pool of spare addresses on top of that.
The workgroup is called Plesbit. The clients are:
Plesbit-1 (running XP Pro), acts as a file server and runs 24/7.
Plesbit-2 (running XP Pro), a laptop and the workhorse. Network drives (K-N) map to the appropriate shares on the server. All work is done from those drives and all data therefore stored on the server.
Plesbit-3 (running Win98SE), you can pretty much ignore, I tell you it's there only for completeness. It's almost never turned on.
All connect via 54g wireless.

For over a year this network has happily run to my original config - boot up the laptop, as soon as you log in it connects to the wireless and the network drives automatically map. Open any program and your files from the server are there for you. But all that ... Read more

Give these two a try, you did say XP-SP2, right?

For these commands, Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset [log_file_name]

Note: the log_file_name needs to be specified, e.g. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Hi,

Recently i purchased a D-Link 8 Port Switch to link my two (2) laptops on the network at home. One laptop is running Vista Home and the other is on XP Pro.

I assiged static IP address on both laptops and left Workgroup name as default (WORKGROUP). I'm able to ping it's laptop local IP address but not able to ping the other laptop IP address nor i cannot view the laptops in My Network Places & vice versa.

When i changed the IP address and used the same IP address which is already used on the other laptop, I'm prompting with IP Conflict or IP already used on the network.

Need your instruction what to do next.

When I double click on MSHOME after 10 or so seconds I get Error message

MSHOME is not accessible.
You might not have permission to use this network resource.

I am logged on as an administrator.

A similar workgroup on a similar machine is fine.

A:Cannot access workgroup at all

Could be related to your wireless card or Internet security is
preventing browsing on the network.

Found this for you not sure who wrote it but it looks right and could help you...

MShome is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available.

This behavior will occur if any of the following are true:

- The Browser service is not running.

- Windows Firewall settings are enabled for LAN or High-Speed Internet.

- A physical network component is mal-functioning.

To resolve these issues:

Configure the Browser
1. Open a CMD.EXE window.
2. Type the following command and press Enter:

REG ADD HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser /V Start /T REG_DWORD /F /D 3

3. Shutdown and restart Windows XP.

4. Open a CMD.EXE window.

5. Type the following command and press Enter:

NET START BROWSER

What I don't like is it's asking you to disable the firewall
Disable the Windows Firewall for the workgroup network
1. Start / Run / ncpa.cpl / OK.
2. Right-click the network connection and press Properties.

3. Select the Advanced tab.

4. Press the Settings button.

5. Select the Advanced tab.

6. Clear the Network Connection check box for your network.

7. Press OK.

Hi,

I have a strange problem that's cropped up. I have a network of 9 computers, all using a workgroup. All worked fine until last night when I hooked a USB drive up to the only laptop in the group. The drive wasn't recognized for some reason (?) but since then my laptop cannot access the workgroup. I don't see how these events can be related, but the timing seems to indicate this.

Here's what I've found:
-error: "FSP is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this resource. Contact the administrator to find out if you have access permissions. The list of servers for this workgroup is currently unavailable."
-I cannot ping the laptop from any networked workstation
-I cannot ping any networked workstation from the laptop
-All computers can ping the gateway and themselves
-all computers can access the internet
-I can see the laptop in "workgroup computers" on any workstation, but I cannot access it.
-I cannot see any workstations in "workgroup computers" on the laptop.
-I can access to and from the laptop using IP addresses, but not names.

The reason why I need to use names is that I use this network as a render farm and it does not work correctly using the IP addresses.

Firewall/antivirus has been disabled.

OS is a combination of XP Pro, XP Home and Win2K. The laptop is XP Pro ver 2002, SP2.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Several years ago I set up a wireless WORKGROUP. I spent hours and most of it worked, I was able to get the wireless computers on the net. I had a few other functions working, they could talk to each other, but not to the wired computer; eventually I paid someone to come out and he had the same trouble as I was having so he called someone, and there was one glitch that between the two of them they seemed to be able to fix it. The router at the time was a D-Link. That was many years ago. Since then, I was able to add an additional computer (a Laptop) and TiVo services with no troubles, so this is what was connected to the D-Link:

? 1 computer wirebound to the D-Link router, I'll call this C1
? 1 computer wireless (networked via WORKGROUP through the router's Gateway) - I'll call this C2
? 1 laptop wireless (networked via WORKGROUP through the router's Gateway) - I'll call this LAP
? 2 TiVo wireless (networked via WORKGROUP through the router's Gateway)

I have recently upgraded to VoIP and when trying to use only that router was unable to get the WORKGROUP connections to work at that time - so Linksys had me turn-off the wireless feature. Then I had to piggyback the D-Link so I could still have my WORKGROUP Network set-up. It worked, I could still have all the things connected to the internet that I had before, and I could still share files. Unfortunately, the D-Link has died. :( So...

I went into the set up of the Linksys and turned back on the wireless co... Read more

Hi,

I have recently set up my student house with ADSL thru an all in one Connexant AMX-CA64E Modem/Router/4port switch, allowing four people to connect to the internet via ethernet. I have managed to setup the network so all nodes can recieve net access using the router as the gateway... However I am having trouble setting up the network itself. When i got to view workgroup connections I recieve this message

"HOC Network is not accessible. You Might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact admin of server to find out if you have access permissions.

The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available"

*/ my network group is "HOC Network"

The router LAN settings can be found at http://www.cazart.plus.com/conexant/
an my settings are as follows:

LAN CONFIG

IP Address 10.0.0.2 (that of the router)
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 (have tried 255.0.0.0 also)

DHCP - yes // Have tried No

User defined: // Have tried system defined
start 10.0.0.3
end 10.0.0.14
Lease Time 0 0 0 0
user mode: Multi User
Ethernet Mode: Auto // tried 10full, 10 half too

WAN Setup = All fine
No ip
Subnet: 255.0.0.0
Default gateway 0.0.0.0
MAC/BRIDGE/IGMP: All Disabled
No DHCP

other options:

DHCP Relay: Disabled
IMGP Proxy Disabled

The system is setup using NAT and each computer has the following TCP/IP Settings (the session names assigned on NAT are just random names, but ips are set for individuals comps)

A:No LAN/Workgroup Access thru Mod/Hub/Rtr

What Operating System is each machine using?

I can't say that I like Conexant's idea of using class A addressing for the network, it may end up being confusing. You MUST use a subnet mask of 255.0.0.0 with these 10.X.X.X addresses.

Use either DHCP OR static addresses, not both, on your LAN.

First, make sure that each machine can:
PING itself
PING the router
PING all the other machines on your house network
access the Internet

Then, make sure all machines have installed:
Client for Microsoft Networks
File and Print Sharing

Configure all machines:
so that they are members of the same workgroup
so that they have unique names
Workgroup and machine names should be 14 characters or less, no spaces or puctuation.
Share at least one folder

Reboot after changes, and allow to sit for 10 minutes or so. All machines should now be visible in Network Neighborhood.

You should be able to connect to any machine, even if it doesn't show in Net Neighborhood, by:
Start > Run > \\"machine name"\"sharename"

I have a strange problem . I can't access to the workgroup . The problem is that Microsoft Windows Network doesn't appear.

1.folder "Entire Network" has only three icons :
Web Client Network
Microsoft Terminal Services
Adobe Driver cs4 Network
the icon Microsoft Windows Network does not appear
I was able to fix the problem with uninstall "file and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Network" from Local Area Connection Properties -> after that restart PC ->
and install the same "file and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Network" in Local Area Connection Properties

The problem is that after a while the icon Microsoft Windows Network doesn't appear again and I don't have access to the workgroup

Please Help

A:I can't access to the workgroup

Check that all your network services are Started:

COM+ Event System (for WZC issues)
Computer Browser
DHCP Client
DNS Client
Network Connections
Network Location Awareness
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Server
TCP/IP Netbios helper
Wireless Zero Configuration (XP wireless configurations only)
WLAN AutoConfig (Vista wireless configurations only)
Workstation

Note: You can check the services in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.

All of these services should be started, and their startup type should be automatic (or perhaps manual).

If a service is not running, open it's properties and check the dependencies. Check each of the dependencies and see which one is preventing the service from running. Checking the event log is also a good idea here, there may be clues to what is failing.

I have xp pro and am on a peer to peer network with dsl internet, a hub, and a wireless hub. The network is working fine for everyone else.

My laptop was connecting fine yesterday thru the wireless hub. I took it to a restaurant last night and tried to get onto their network but was unable to - their wep key didn't work for me.

Today it is connecting to the internet but not the other computers on the network; can't even see them.

I have norton internet security 2007 and I looked in there to see if the network was specified in the "trusted" screen for firewall configuration and it is.

I unplugged and replugged the wireless router.

I ran a virus scan and am currently running an adaware scan.

I rebooted a couple of times.

Interesting.... my desktop can see the laptop and access files on it. The laptop can't see anyone tho.

Suggestions?
