ThinkPad T450 Microphone mute button

Q: ThinkPad T450 Microphone mute button

I have a ThinkPad T450 with Windows 10. The microphone mute button continues to be illuminated. I can shut it off for a few minutes, but then it comes back on. I've downloaded the current drivers for the microphone. Control panels says that the computer has the Realtek High Definition Audio and the driver is up to date. I've go through the set-up for the microphone several times, but it still turns back to muted. Any thoughts on how to keep the microphone active?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I recently factory reset and installed windows 10 on my P51 and ever since the mute microphone and mute computer keys dont seem to function normally. The mute microphone key (above numpad and F4) does nothing at all, and the mute computer key seems to mute the computer but the on keyboard indicator (led above numpad) does not light up anymore. I tried seeing if it was an audio/ keyboard driver issue but they both say theyre up to date. Any suggestions?

Hi, I have a problem with my microphone mute button on my T410.  It does not mute the microphone when pressed.  I verified this by opening the Sound settings in Control Panel and the fact that the amber light doesn't come on to indicate it is muted.  When I mute the microphone through the Control Panel Sound option, the light does not come on either. This started happening after a reinstall of Windows.  I made sure to install all the software and driver updates using the Lenovo Driver and Software update tool. I also individually downloaded and installed the Conexant drivers, too. Any ideas? Thanks, Chris

Hello,I have a ThinkPad T410 with Windows 10 Professional installed and many of the function keys, such as toggle wireless on/off, sleep button, lock computer, etc, do nothingAlso, the microphone mute button has no effect, but the speakers mute works OK.The ThinkVantage button does nothing - what is it meant to do ?On searching the web I have seen suggestions to check that certain services are running, but the ones mentioned are not even listed. This has led me to conclusion that I need some software from Lenovo to be installed, but if so, what is it and where do I find it ?The computer was obtained as refurbished and all the original software had been removed. The original OS had been Windows 7 Professional (License Key in battery compartment), but this had been upgraded to Windows 10 Professional.Any help would be much appreciated.Regards,Nick.

Hi, Team. It has been 24-hrs since I found out my thinkpad is not turning on.I have used this last Saturday afternoon and shut down completely.I never ever put my TP into sleep mode or hibernate mode. When I woke up yesterday, 11am I found out that the Fn, Mute and Microphone keys are lit up. The fan is not working (the entire system is off). The temperature of the laptop is normal, not warm or heating up like it is being used. I have removed the external battery and power adapter, pushed the power button for more than 3mins., put back the battery and plugged the power adapter (the power button blinks when I plug the power adapter as it usually does when) and pushed the power button back - nothing happens. The Fn, Mute and Microphone buttons are still lit up and the TP is not turning on.I haven't pushed the emergency reset button at the back (I fear that I might lose all my files).Up until now, the same 3-keys are lit up. I need help as soon as possible.

The microphone mute button doesn't actually seem to mute my microphone. But after several weeks of trouble shooting my WiDi display, I found the source of my audio problem. The external display gets muted when using the microphone mute setting. Not sure why they are related. Intel WiDi speakers also don't appear muted under playback devices and shows an audio signal but nothing comes out of the external display.

The Mute Button Light on my Thinkpad X1 Carbon (3rd Gen) Stays On all the time. I can mute or unmute audio fine, but the light stays on. Small issue I know, but I'd like to be able to turn it off. It happened before, and someone pointed to a note somewhere that specified a keystroke combination to turn it off, but I can't remember the keystroke. Note: It wasn't a driver issue or any of the other solutions people post regarding this issue, just a simple keystroke that's laid out ... somewhere ... I can't find it in the user guide. Any ideas? The mute button does not work at all! There is no On Screen Display to show the adjustment settings for any Hotkeys. I have found that installing the older 3.88.0000 (8jvu40ww.exe) version of ThinkPad Hotkey Features Integration works successfully with mute button functionality as well as the On Screen Display features. Comparing what is different between the 3.89.0000 and 3.88.0000 versions, I find On Screen Display version and Full Screen Magnifier have advanced. I have three T410 laptops. Two of them have intel graphics and one has an nvidia graphics chip. I have the exact same problem as RChesley with the two that have the Intel graphics. The latest Hotkey Features Integration driver 3.89 from system update has disabled my on screen display. Removing it with windows system restore brought it back. Uninstalling it and installing an earlier version would not work. My T410 with the Nividia graphics chip does not have this problem. It has the 3.89 Hotkey Driver installed and the on screen display works fine. My two T410s with the Intel graphics do have the latest Intel graphics drivers offered by Lenovo System Update. Lenovo System Update indicates that the 3.89 driver is required in order to install the latest power manager driver which enables the CPU turbo boost. I would like to have turbo boost working. I just figured out how to correct the corruption of the Lenovo Toolbox from an incorrect driver that was pushed by Lenovo System Update, now I have this to deal with. I would appreciate it if Lenovo would look into this and report back on this thread.

Hi, recently I bought a new keyboard with multimedia keys
Model : Microsoft Wireless keyboard 1000
All the keys are working fine, I also installed the latest drivers and Intellitype Pro to the correct OS i'm using.
However, when I press the mute/unmute button, the volume bar shows up, but does not actually mute. It seems like it flashed the mute symbol for half a second but it still just stay unmute. I tried using the default Microsoft sound driver and the latest Realtek sound driver but still no luck.
I also tried turning HID services on and off but still the same
BUT, I remember the mute button WORKING until a few days ago.

I don't know if it is due to the Windows Update, or something to do with my motherboard driver or something else. The roll back driver option is greyed out in Device Manager so I don't assume that is the problem..

I'm currently using:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 1000
YAMAHA speakers YST-M15 (really old model)
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver 6.0.1.5859
ASUS M3A78-EM Motherboard

I'm really confused because if all the multimedia keys are working then it should not be a driver problem. If the volume up/down is working then it should not be speaker problem. It is ONLY the mute button that is not working.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hi,

My Dell Studio has just crashed and wont restart. The mute and volume up buttons are flashing and the volume down button is solidly lit. I could not find the diagnostic code when searching the internet. I could find pretty much every other diagnostic code apart from this one.

A:Dell Studio 1535 wont start. Blinking mute and volume up button, solid volume down button.

Hi Andy,
Welcome to Dell community!
As you have correctly pointed out, the diagnostic code that you have mentioned is not among the codes available to isolate the failure for a Studio 1535 laptop. The closest code is: blinking Mute LED and Volume up LED, and an off Volume down LED which is for USB controller initialization failure. Disconnect any external devices connected and try powering on the computer.
Reseating the memory modules too can help us. Please refer the following link for the Studio 1535 service manual for instructions: http://bit.ly/10PrLgH
If issue persists, the laptop’s motherboard has to be replaced. Refer the following link to check the computer’s warranty status: http://dell.to/10pMa86
If the computer has active warranty, please send me the service tag and registered owner’s name on the computer in a Private Message. To send me a Private Message, click my User name, and then click Start Conversation.
If the warranty on the computer has expired, you may contact our expired warranty services to purchase/replace the compatible parts. Please refer the following link that has contact details for our Expired Warranty Services: http://dell.to/14FoBtb

I'm thinking about buying a Blue Snowball iCE because they are fairly cheap and but have great sound quality. I've read some reviews and watched some videos and I'm very happy with this mic, the only problem is that is doesn't have a mute button. I use the mute button a lot because my parents come in to my room frequently and just start talking, so i need to mute my mic so my friends can't hear them. The Blue Snowball iCE mic doesn't have mute button on it so i need a quick way of muting my mic.

I thought of putting in a switch in the wire that goes into the PC. The mic is connected to the computer by a USB, is there an extension wire i could buy with a switch attached to it, that i could plug the mic into and then plug that into the computer?

I really need a fast way to mute my mic and if anybody has any ideas I'm open to them!

Thanks for reading and I hope you can help!

Hey,
Every time I restart my computer I have to re-mute my microphone in the levels tab in the sound option. I do this so I do not hear myself talking through my speakers from my microphone, but so I can still use the microphone for applications.

Also, the microphone boost turn's off every restart as well.
So pretty much, every time I restart I have to mute my microphone again and re-enable the microphone boost.

What I want is too not have to do this on every restart. It only takes me about five seconds to set everything back up so it's only slightly annoying.

I have a creative x-fi xtreme gamer fatality sound card. I have set the correct settings through the audio console as well, but it still reset's to the microphone being set on and sound boost off on restart.

Thanks for any help.

Hello,

I bought a Logitech USB microphone to use with DJ / mixing programs, but I cannot mute it on my desktop computer running with Windows 81. The computer recognises it and says the driver is up to date. The sound quality is fine, but the microphone is constantly on and can be heard in the speakers or headphones while I have it turned off in the programs. I have tried front and back USB ports and three different programs and it is always the same. I have an older laptop using Windows 7 and the microphone works perfectly with full control.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Hello.

After a restart of my computer, the playback of my microphone un-mutes, which makes it so I am able to hear what I speak into my microphone, which I don't want.

I am able to fix this issue each time by going to Playback Devices > Speakers > Levels (Tab) and then mute the microphone.

But my question is. Why doesn't this stay after a restart?

Hello. I have a new T450s with Windows 10.   I hit F4 and the amber light goes on showing the microphone is muted.  Problem is that it "looks" muted but it is not.  I have also gone in through the software to mute and it lights up the F4 buttton.. However, it doesn't actually mute the microphone.   So I can never mute the mic..  Is there a fix for this? I see others have had this problem in the past.Thank you.

A:Cannot mute microphone with new lenovo T450s

Same problem with an old E330. The problems started when upgrading to Windows 10 + Realtek HD Audio Drivers (or the Lenovo Realtek Audio drivers, just rebranded). Something in that combination breaks the microphone's ability to be muted by software. The button works ok, the On Screen Display shows the icon and it's shown as muted however still works.Muting it manually from within programs which use the microphone works as well, as does uninstalling the Realtek drivers and going forth with the default Windows 10 drivers (but then there's a loss of functionality with the sound - options).

My laptop mute button stays orange/red and I can't get it to turn off, and when I try to turn up the sound from the control panel it slides back to mute. I've restarted the laptop, tried instaling everything from the assitant, and nothing has worked. Please help? Preferably in simple, easy steps.

A:mute button

 1. Insitall Quick Launch software.2. Uninstall and Install quick launch and audio software (Not Driver)3. Check if any other devices connected to the computer is reducing/changing the volume. This looks like software issue and not hardware so the drivers and application are causing the issue.

Hello i've never really had any trouble with the f1-f12 keys before because i never reall used them but when i want to use it it only lets me mute my volume. I was wondering how I could change that in order to make both work.

Hi, I updated from Windows 8 Pro to Windows 10 recently on my Thinkpad. When I hibernate the laptop it just hangs and does not wake up. I used to face this problem on Windows 8 too but it was not frequent, mostly laptop used to wakeup on power button press. But on Windows 10 it never does. Any solution for this? Power options settingsSleep - All options - Never (I even tried by setting up time for Hibernate option) RegardsAkil

A:Thinkpad T450 Partitioning issue

Is this the way the machine was delivered initially?  I thought all the machines of this vintage came as GPT, not MBR.

Hi,I have the Asus MB169C+ Portable Monitor which I use regularly with my MacBook. The power delivery also runs through the cable. I have the thinkpad t450 I want to connect to the monitor to. The laptop only has USB 3 ports. I tried a USB-C to USB-3 cable but whilst the monitor powered up, no picture appeared and windows told me the USB had malfunctioned. I then purchased a USB-C to DVI connector cable to connect the monitor to a powered USB hub I have for the laptop. But the monitor wouldn't switch on - I assume that the cable didn't push any power through. Does anybody know whether there is a solution to have the monitor work with the thinkpad? Thanks in advance.
