Flash Player and FF Plugin Container

Q: Flash Player and FF Plugin Container

Regarding Adobe flash player, I'd like to know if it incorporates the Firefox Plugin Container for those on Firefox? Does it use that program to help update itself perchance and is it necessary for Flash usage in any way? Just wondering. Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm running Lenovo 32-bit on Win XP and for awhile keep getting freezing and script issues with message
>>>>
"plugin-container.exe has encountered a problem needs to close....etc..."

I read that the Adobe Shockwave Flash(27.0.0.130) in Firefox(my browser) needs updating, then i read that in fact in you need to go into Mozilla Firefox ADD ON's and you should uncheck the box that shows
"Enabled Adobe Flash Protected".Basically disabling it.
So it can't be both options can it? So who is right on this and what should i do.
Or are there other reasons i am getting plug-incontainer exe issues?

i have finally found a real resort to removing this damn virus out of my system, but it will take you a whole day.
first off
These are the things you need to google.

AdwCleaner : Cleans the registry of the infection
CCleaner: Removes the Cookies and programs (use trial version pro)
Kaspersky (Anti-Virus) removes the virus infecting the pc
Malware Bytes: "As Described program to cover more basis to remove it"
then finally Junk Removal Tool.

But follow each program in these steps.
"Anti-virus: use first a latest virus protection program (Not Nortons: Back door into windows)"
CCleaner: Clean all your windows background applications and cache
Malware Bytes
Junk Removal Tool.

i should say your computer will be clean of this peice of s### infection.

but the process will yet again, take all day.

If you upgraded your FF you may/may not have problems with it's plugin-container.exe. It apparently causes crashes/lock ups of FF on some systems, slowdowns on others.

I saw some reports associated with this file, which takes up (in some instances) an inordinate amount of RAM, thus causing the browser to lock up.

Some AV/Malware programs are registering it as Malware.

On a personal note, it really does bug me that the file REQUIRES internet access (*and there is no option to bypass or disable it). If you don't allow it, some sites that require flash just won't load.

Aside from that, no problems with the new browser.

For release notes:

How else do you expect it to get content that resides online then? To put it into perspective, when Firefox encounters a plugin required container (object, embed) in the HTML it diverts those off to plugin-container.exe to handle and download the necessary resources it supports. So of course it needs access to the internet. It would be no different denying Firefox internet access.

So I'm using the latest version of Firefox and Flash player, and for some reason the plugin-container will lock up in certain situations.

If I play quake through quakelive.com and exit a match, at any time, the plugin locks up, have to open task manager and kill the process.

If I'm on youtube, foxnews, or any other place using flash for video, and navigate away from the site, or select a different video it locks up.

Now this only happens the first time I try to leave a page or exit a game. Once I kill the process and bring the page / game up it all runs perfectly fine no matter what video I click on, new page I go to, or play 10 - 20 games.

It happens no matter how much memory the plugin is using as well. it could be 15,000kb or 235,000kb.

Not really sure how to troubleshoot a problem like this, so any advice would be welcome.

I've got FF v.3.6.20 and with one tab open and the recent "plugin-container" running after a little flash player action, task manager says, between the two
they take approx. 80,000 K of RAM

Chrome v.13.0.782.112 m with one tab open is sucking up approx. 180,000 K of RAM. task mngr. also shows 5 processes named "chrome.exe"

after reading that, Chrome still loads as fast or faster than FF.

I'm not all up on what my browsers do with RAM and how/if that effects page-loading

Can someone please explain this to me?

Thanks

A:FF3 + plugin-container vs Chrome

With tabbed web browsers it's normal to have several instances of the browser running in processes. There's one for each open tab, but that does not in any way effect page-loading times. Google Chrome uses a different browser engine, and that's what makes the difference.

Firefox 3 is in any case well out of date now by several versions. The latest is v6.0 so you should consider updating it to enjoy the extra security and new features -- it's faster too.

Hi,

Recently when I use Firefox to surf on the Internet, I always have like 5-6 tabs opened. After 5-10 minutes, the browser is running very slowly and sometimes at the top bar it says (Not Responding). It is like a performance drop, changing tabs is slow, scrolling down a page is slow. I check the Task Manager it uses like 1907.23 MB of Memory and it shows 99% of Memory used.

I always have to end the Firefox process and open it again and restore my last session. It always use 150-180 MB of Memory at the first minute. But the longer I keep Firefox open, even on Minimize, my computer slows down and again it use 99% of Memory so I have to end process again. This happens over and over again. And when I check my Crash Dumps folder, I saw a lot of plugin-container dump files.

So how do I solve this issue? It's not a big deal though but I want a solution.

EDIT: Firefox is my preferred browser, I don't really like Chrome and not to mention Internet Explorer.

A:Firefox plugin-container

First, make sure you have the latest version of Firefox ie. 38.01
Next, right click on the Title, and select Menu Bar. From the Menu, click on Help->Restart With Add-Ons disabled to see if you experience the same problem.

If the problem is gone then go to Tools->Menu->Add-ons and disable all the add-ons then re-enable one by one until you experience the same problem then you might have a bad add-on.

If the the problem still persist. Tools->Options and create a SYNC account and sign-in. This will save all your Bookmarks, Add-ons etc...
then uninstall Firefox completely.

Next, download and install Firefox again then sign in to SYNC to get back all bookmarks, add-ons etc...

I did a clean install of the operating sysytem & everything else has been loading without a hitch. It goes through the motions of installing & seems to be done. A check of it at the adobe site, indicates it's not installed. I have used adobe's uninstaller & tried several times to get it installed with no luck! It doesn't show in the Firefox plugins either. Has anyone had such an experience? Thanks in advance for any help.

Visit this page: Uninstall Flash Player | Windows   What error message does it give? It may or may not be all that helpful.
Scroll through and read all the info in that link above.

Run the uninstaller again after closing all programs and browsers...anything that might use flash. Restart the computer.
Go back to the page in link above to check if Flash is uninstalled.
You can do a file search for Macromedia Flash Player, Adobe Flash Player and Flash Player....then delete them.

This time, download and save the installer for Flash. Exit all programs and Browsers.
Find and click on the installer for Flash.

The problem comes when the adobe download manager after downloading 100% fails the integrity check. ok, i downloaded the flash player installation file separately and installed it on the system. I checked the add/remove programs and it's there. now when i try to access anyweb site that needs flash, mozilla firefox still says that it's missing the plugin, i agree to the license and everything, and it fails to install the plugin on its own. Is there any way i can get it to recognize the latest file already installed? Help.

hi...i know there's a way through firefox to disable the plugin container (plugin-container.exe in resources at the task manager) and keep it from gobbling up cpu resources, but i can't remember how to do it. i know you just type in something in the browser location bar and from there type in another short piece of text, and from there double-click a couple of items to take the plugin container out of contention for the cpu. does anyone here know what i need to type in at the browser location bar, and at the screen that firefox shows after that? i know what to double-click once i get there. thanks for all help.

Type about:config in the address bar and hit Enter.

Type dom.ipc.plugins.enabled in the Filter bar and you should see 4 entries appear as you're typing. Right-click each one of these entries and select Toggle to change their values from True to False, then restart Firefox.

I currently have Firefox 3.5.7 installed and am trying to access a site that requires the current version of Adobe Flash Player (10.0.42). When I download and install it, the website still doesn't recognize flash player being installed.

I go to Adobe.com, make sure I am downloading the one for WinXP/Firefox and install it, then it says that it is successfully installed. However, when I try to access the site, and it says that the current version of flash player is not installed, with a link to the adobe site to download the latest version (which I already did).

I have tried uninstalling the flash player, from both Windows and Adobe's uninstaller, and reinstalling with no success. I have even tried uninstalling/reinstalling Firefox, still nothing. For fun, I tried updating IE, and it works fine, but I REALLY don't like IE.

Another note: when I uninstall Flash Player, it doesn't remove it from my machine (add/remove program list), even when Windows asks, "Adobe ... is already uninstalled, would you like to remove it from the list?" Additionally, when I go to Adobe's Flash Player version tester site, it reports that IE is running version 10.0.42, but when I access it with FF, it shows a link to download the latest Adobe FP.

I had been keeping the 32-bit version bug at bay using the user environment variable "MOZ_DISABLE_OOP_PLUGINS" but that no longer works for the 64-bit version. I've gone so far as to add "64" to the variable in several different ways but none of those worked.

Include these steps:

   Note
To remove other files and folders that may not be removed by the uninstall, you must manually delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations by default:
32-bit Windows: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
64-bit Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

   Note
Pess the Windows key +R to open a Run dialog, type in %APPDATA%\Mozilla\ and click OK to open the Mozilla folder, then delete the Firefox folder.
Reboot. Clean install Firefox then restore your bookmarks and extensions from the Mozbackup file that you saved.

Recently, I was given a laptop in which the OS environment is XP SP3. Since I started using the machine, there have been an untold number of problems that have occurred that seem to point to ntdll.dll {5.1.2600.5755 (xpsp_sp3_gdr.090206-1234)} and plugin-container.exe. To help you all understand the situation, I use Firefox, not IE.

It doesn't seem to matter whether or not I've installed addins to my browser. The problem is most prevalent whenever I run streaming audio which requires the Flash plugin.

SCENARIO:

After ~ 30 minutes (the length of time is never consistent) of listening to streaming audio, the browser either hangs, or crashes...sometimes, I have to end the firefox.exe process via Task Manager. Here's an example of the details logged in Event Viewer-->Application:

A:Firefox crashing (plugin container for firefox has stopped working)

Go to Index page ? mozillaZine Forums ; on the right-side of the screen, in the search box for Boards, enter "plugin container crashes" (without the quotation marks) and read some of the threads, which may lead you to the solution.

My quick look at a few of those threads indicated that hardware acceleration may be the culprit; if you need help with that, do another search for that subject.

There was an amusing incident on mozillaZine recently concerning hardware acceleration: One person posted a vituperative message blaming the moderators for frequently suggesting turning off hardware acceleration on the grounds that doing that had never helped a single person.

The very next thread I read was from a person thanking the moderators: He had been told to try turning off hardware acceleration, he did so, and his problem was solved.

I was having problems with too high physical memory usage(highest was 73%) causing my PC to respond slower even during winexplore. I started uninstalling unnecessary programs and disabling unnecessary processes, when I noticed that plugin-container.exe is taking up 23,xxx KB memory while firefox takes up 400,xxxKB. Is this normal? Is there any way I can tone Firefox down to further lessen my PC's physical memory usage? As of now, it's down to 36%.

I usually run either Fraps, Skyrim, or Azureus Vuze while using Firefox. Current active plugins for Firefox are:
Quicktime plugin
Java Platform
Java Deployment toolkit
Shockwave Flash

Unless you're very limited in ram, its nothing to worry about. I've stressed FF to eat up to 4GB or ram and another 4 for the Plugin Container.

This pop-up is driving me crazy! It pops up on the video screen I want to watch in Fox News website -- I haven't noticed it popping up on other sites as yet. It will list the site asking for permission to store information on my computer. The link I have attached below gives instructions on how to remove this pop-up. Is this flash player thing safe or is it some kind of virus or malware? The attached link refers to it as spyware. If I were to remove the Flash player program, will it affect playing games or whatever on my laptop. I need help, please.

Thank you.

The link above is just another ad-site trying to get you into buying spyhunter. I would not do what they recommend. Can you provide the link where you get the pop up so I can try it. In addition, what browser are you using ?

There is this fake flash player thing on my toolbar (a white "f" inside a red box) and when I click on it, no flash player update window pops up. It's just plain weird. I am having trouble with Internet Explorer lately probably because of this. Every time I close the IE window, I always get that "Windows IE stopped from working" thing.

A few days ago, I had a blue screen. I restarted my laptop and it's working fine lately but that fake player virus/trojan keeps on appearing on my toolbar and I am scared. Kaspersky 2003 didn't work. I ran it (normal and safe mode) but it didn't remove it. Here is the DDS log:

We have IE 6. Say a user goes to MSN.com. The ad on the right is a Flash object. Some of our users will see that object flickering when scrolling up or down on the page or when hovering their mouse over it. It's quite annoying. Almost all users are running Adobe Flash Player 9, but I think I've seen this happen on systems with Macromedia Flash Player 8 as well. Other systems don't have the problem. I've seen this happen on one system and not another while both seemed to have the same Flash objects installed.

Uninstalling all Flash players using Adobe's prescribed Flash Player uninstall tool seems to work at first, but users later complain again. Note that they just about always end up installing Flash Player 9 again, because sites ask for it. I don't believe I've seen this on any XP systems at all, including my own, but most of our users have Win2K.

Does anybody know why this happens or how to permanently fix it?

Thanks,
Hotshot309

A:Ie 6 - Flash Objects Flickering - Using Adobe Flash Player 9 Activex R28 (shockwave Flash Object V. 9.0.28.0)

More info: Adobe Flash Player 9, Macromedia Flash Player 8, and Macromedia Flash Player 10 all produce the same result--Flash objects that flicker when you put your mouse over any part of them. Moving Flash objects will flicker constantly while moving and stop flickering when the animation is done. SWF files (at least the one at www.stormwerks.com/linked/stuf/AYB2.swf) work without a problem when using Adobe Flash Player 9.

If I don't have Adobe Flash Player 9 installed, the Win2K machines prompt me to install them for almost any site that uses Flash (I guess most recent Flash objects cannot be viewed with the older Macromedia Flash Players).

Any suggestions?

Hello to all of www.TechGuy.org members!
Please, help me on with solving my problems with Adobe Flash Player 9.0.124.0.
First of all - I have an old computer with Microsoft Windows XP Professional (32-bit) with SP2 (the reason, why I don't want to install a SP3, is that my computer is old and it will take half a day); I'm also using Kaspersky Internet Security 2009.
The problems - when I'm finishing installation of FP9, it always ends up with errors of internet explorer (like "send an error to Microsoft or no"); I also can't view Flash content on different sites (what ends up with a same errors)... but, I DO can view YouTube content (videos).
Maybe it's all because of my Anti-Malware protection software, but I'm not sure, if I can configure it correctly. Please, help me on with this one and I will be very thankful for that!
Thank you, guys!
P.S. Just imagine a web browsing without all that flash content (plus - errors with IE7 shut downs)...

A:Flash Player 9.0.124.0 problems! Cant view Flash Player content!

If you uninstalled a version of the Adobe flash plugin with Add/Remove there could be some traces left behind. Adobe provide an uninstaller which you run, reboot and then reinstall the plugin. Have a look here (and note the info for IE users): http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=1 (Note that this uninstaller will remove the flash plugin from all browsers installed on the system so, if you have Firefox, Opera or Netscape, you will have to reinstall their version of the plugin as well).

If you don't have it handy, here's the link for the Active X version of the plugin (I think you have to be online while it installs, check the instructions before you start); http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/static/styx/English.html
