TouchPad on my ENVY Notebook Driver Issue

Q: TouchPad on my ENVY Notebook Driver Issue

Hi @FlashRam1714 and @SDJL Per my post from 1-27-16: One day my TouchPad stopped responding completely. I uninstalled the Synaptics SMBus TouchPad driver under Device Manager. After I restarted my computer, my TouchPad was working again with the older Microsoft TouchPad drivers that were still there. Eventually Windows automatically updated to the latest Synapatics 19.0.12.98 and the TouchPad was working until I closed my laptop and tried opening it again. @FlashRam1714 intially responded to me and I followed the steps he told me. Here's my response on 1-31-16: I tried the hard rest first to no avail. I followed all the steps in HP Notebook PCs - Using the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 10), including redownloading the newest drivers, and still nothing. I also tried your link to HP Notebook PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 10, 8). I ran the component test for the mouse and passed both the pointing and drag tests. So clearly its not a hardware issue, but a problem with the compatibility between the Synaptics Pointing Device -v19.0.12.98 driver and the Touch Pad. Again when I roll back to the Microsoft 10.0.10586.0 Touch Pad driver, the touch pad works, but with a lot less functionality (the driver date is 6/21/2006) My machine originally had Windows 8.1 on it and I upgraded to Windows 10. I noticed Synaptics has a newer driver (v19.0.19.1) that goes with Windows 10, but I haven't had luck trying to install it. I responded in a similiar Question board from 2-27-16 where @SJDL was the Support Agent. He set his client up with an appropriate team within HP. I asked for him to set me up too, but never got a response. Please note that I still have my warranty but it will be running out soon.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I had previously talked to @FlashRam1714 about this problem, who gave me a number of solutions to try. I  tried the hard rest first to no avail. After a few days though it ends up updating to the Synaptics Pointing Device -v19.0.12.98 driver. Is there a way to stop it from updating? My machine originally had Windows 8.1 on it and I upgraded to Windows 10. I noticed Synaptics has a newer driver (v19.0.19.1) that goes with Windows 10, but I haven't had luck trying to install it. Do you think that's the issue and if so, could you explain how to replace that with my current driver? Thanks, Matt

A:TouchPad on my ENVY Notebook Driver Issue

I have been having the SAME exact issue that you are having.  In fact I bought two of these machines and they both had the same exact issue with the touchpad.   I still have one of these machines but the other was returned. My device is also an HP Envy 15t-q300, also originally installed with Windows 8.1.  I installed Windows on this machine from a clean ISO install. Currently I have Synaptics driver 19.0.19.1 (Driver Date: 8/5/2015).  This provides full functionality to the touch pad and has been stable.  The annoying part however is that Windows Update likes to update this driver.  Once that happens the touchpad will typically work until the machines goes into it's first sleep cycle, and then upon next resume the touchpad shows as disabled and there is no way to enable it.  That is when I must perform the driver roll back and things work for a while again. I have downloaded the latest drvier from synptics and the same issue occur as they do with the driver from Windows Update.  I would really like to see a resolution to this issue as it's really quite irritating.

Hi, The Clickpad settings of my touchpad have been resetting and it is very frustrating having to set it up after each reboot. I have the latest driver: 19.2.4.0 Rev.A http://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-ENVY-17-n000-Notebook-PC/7771351/model/8429318 I have tried the previous version but the problem still persists. And now for some reason, my right click area is not working and I have to rely on double tapping to right click. Disabling two finger click does not activate the one finger right click area either.  Any help would be really appreciated. I'm very annoyed and disappointed with this HP laptop I have attached my system info below: HP ENVY Notebook - 17-n062na  EDIT: Forgot to mention that I have tried to change the registry option on the Delete User Setting option from 1 to 0 but this resets to 1 again.

Hi,  I suddenly lost my touchpad. It can no longer track my mouse movements. The touchpad on/off toggle button does not seem to work anymore too. I cannot turn it on or off anymore. I restarted my system a couple of times without any results. Also tried uninstalling Synaptics Pointing Device Driver and subsequent installation of the latest version without any positive impact. Will be great if you happen to have any suggestions.

A:HP Envy dv4 Notebook PC Touchpad not responding

Hi, It's always worth trying the following. Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Regards, DP-K

We bought my son this laptop from Best Buy a couple of years ago.  He didn't really take to it because the track pad is so awful but he was just finally starting to use it (with an USB mouse) when Windows 10 came out.  The OS upgrade was a fiasco.  We almost couldn't get Windows 10 installed because Windows was reporting an issue with the fan.  After a 2 calls with Microsoft support and many hours we finally got the upgrade completed.  However, a few weeks after "upgrading" the operating system the computer stopped working altogether.   The message we get is the following:  The system has detected that a cooling fan is not operating correctly Then the system shuts down.  You can hit enter to allow the computer to startup normally.  It will still turn off though after a few minutes.  I just called HP support and was charged $243.00 to ship my computer to them and have this issue resolved.  What choice did I have?  Otherwise this is simply an $800 paperweight.  I asked if I could just purchase a warranty but apparently my calling support and reporting the issue would prevent me from simply purchasing the extended warranty for this machine.  (Although, I didn't try it).   Frankly, this is highway robbery for a product this age and for the amount of time this computer has been been in operation.  It had only been lightly used 50 or 100 hours at most.  This issue is reported numerous tim... It appears the hinge assembly for my PC has begun to push the case apart, as the top is aluminum and the bottom is plastic, This problem is getting unreasonable. I looked online to see if there was some fix and immediatly found that the problem is pervasive, I'm hoping that there is a way to repair this, because I don't want the case to come completely apart. But, I don't want it to get damaged further, I have always used this PC and it just has out of the blue Started popping apart in the back where the aluminum comes in contact with the hinges. Hopefully even though I am out of the warrenty by about a year there is some fix to this problem, because I have an HP home computer that has worked perfectly for years, while this laptop in less than 2 years the case just starts popping apart. I am about to enroll in college and need a working laptop. So if there is any way to easily fix this please tell me, and If it is fixable at all If any additional information is needed please just ask. I found a picture Of somone with the exact same hinge problem with the back of the case, having the exact same effect on my pc

I've had this product for a little under 2 years. Today the fourth major problem with it occurred. The left hinge supporting the screen has come loose and is pulling away the base of the laptop. I can hear what sounds like cracking as I open the lid and a screw inside - moving around. I have treated this PC like a new-born baby so it is most defiantly a manufacturing fault. I?ve checked other threads and this problem has been apparent to countless other people with the same model PC. At almost £1000 I expect far higher quality from such a product. Had a known about these issue beforehand I would not bought it and I feel now I have been mis-sold the product as it is clear that it has a clear manufacturing fault with it. The fact that these products were not recalled for the faults with them is ridiculous. I would like to know what can be done about this in order to rectify the problem. I have two issues. The first is that my battery stopped charging right after by warranty exprired causing me to be unable to use my laptop unless it is plugged in. The second is that the left hinge is broken, causing my bottom case to come apart. This has also caused an issue with my fan (from a broken piece interfearing?) which causes my laptop to overheat.  This is unacceptable. This laptop was expensive and I depend on it daily to run my business.

I own an acer laptop running windows 7 that works great except I have a small problem with the touchpad. Whenever I press a key on the keyboard the touchpad dosen't work. I figure this is some problem with the driver. I have tried rolling back the driver which got rid of the problem but then also added a whole bunch off other problems because it was a really old driver. anyway this makes it basically impossible to play any games(unless I use an external mouse) because you have to use the keyboard and touchpad at the same time.

This isn't a huge deal but it would be nice to play games on the go without having to carry a mouse around.

Hello,
I am having an issue with the keyboard on my notebook. I am on a Toshiba M35-S320 Satellite, XP Pro. At random times, when I am typing the keyboard will stop responding, meaning the caps lock doesn't work, none of the function keys work, no text goes through, the works. I have reinstalled my system from scratch two weeks ago, and instead of using the system restore disk that comes with the computer, and includes all that crap, I used the pro version I bought for my other computer that died. I have been having this problem since I reinstalled the OS. I looked up the driver I am currently using, and it is registering as a 'Standard 101/102-key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard', however this is a 15.4" notebook computer, which does not harness a full sized keyboard. Any idea where I can find the keyboard driver for this model? I have looked on the Toshiba Website, but it does not have a driver for the keyboard. Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hello, I'm here to ask a solution to my problem.Details: my pc has just a few weeks of life and this week I started getting fixed BSOD on ac plugin or when I start the pc with it yet plugged in. It just freezes, go to BSOD with 3 different codes randomly choosen, and I can't do nothing more than just wait for the shutdown and put it in charge while switched off.I wish I could solve this cause I'm getting really annoyed, expecially because it's a 1.3k? notebook, it shouldn't have these problems.  For more information about the problem just ask, I'll provide everything in order to solve it.

Hello all!

New to the forum so kindly excuse any noob-ish behaviour.

The issue is this:
Sony notebook (model PCG-9R6M), running Win XP. Recently formatted hard drive and re-installed Windows. Now I've been issued with a generic display driver and it's not performing up to the standard it was previously.

I need to find out how to identify my graphics driver (preferably without trying to open up my laptop)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A problem has recently developed with my Envy notebook.   About 2 weeks ago my entire wireless network began slowing down when on it.   Noticeable on all devices.    When my provider came out, checked and tweaked some issues it appeared to be ok.   I went on with my daughers HP laptop and was drawing 20-24 mbps all over the house. When I reconnected mine to the system I was only pulling 6, 3, 5, up and down.   It doesn't start right away but after a few minutes.   So I put my duaghers right next ot mine and low and behold, when I ran her's it pulled 3 - 6 also.   So I turned my wi-fi off and hers' popped right back up.   I have also tried this with an old XP mini, my i-pads etc.   As soon as mine gets on the network the speed crashes.    This also happens with no one else home and no other devies conncted. I have downloaded the latest up to date Intel driver for this network adapter and it hasn't changed anything. Any ideas?

Bill_Ving Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about wireless networking poor performance and wanted to help. My immediate guess is that you might have mixed-mode networking going on.  This happens when you have two different PCs networking in two different modes -- one using "G", the other using "N".  The wireless router (or access point) can optimize performance for either mode, but not for both.  So, the "G" mode drags down the performance of the "N" mode PC, but even worse, with the router set for mixed modes, it performs more slowly than with either PC connected by itself. Here are some other troubleshooting steps you can try: HP PCs - Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet (Windows 8) | HP® Customer SupportGood Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------Please click "Accept As Solution" on the post that solves your issue to help others find the solution. Please click the Thumbs-Up symbol on the left of the Reply button to say thanks fopr my help.========================================================================

Notebook has begun to lock on reboot at Windows logo.  If I disable the HD6490M object in device manager, the PC boots fine, but only as Standard VGA.  Tried S55098.exe & S55092.exe driver from HP site.  PC still locks on reboot.   Tried installing the Radeon Crimson 16.12.2 Catalyst package from AMD's site; it freezes about 80% through install. This notebook has run fine for years up until a few weeks or so ago.  No other software changes.  Even swapped out a new HD with WIn 7 Pro 64-bit instead of Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit.  Any ideas?

Recently noticed the notebook wasn't aligned to my desk. Thought the feet on the bottom were uneven. They're fine. The notebook seems to have a "bubble" on the keyboard where it's higher than the rest of the keyboard. Obviously it's impacting the entire notebook since it's no longer sitting level. I'm concerned it's going to impact the performance of the keyboard and the fact that it's not even and "rocks" when I'm typing is driving me crazy.   Can someone please direct me on how this can be repaired. It was purchased new in 2013.

Haven't updated your laptop's trackpad driver lately? Then you may well want to consider doing so, at least if your laptop is equipped with a Synaptics trackpad. As a user on the Hardware Zone forums discovered, the latest Synaptics driver seems to enable multitouch gestures on older laptops that didn't previously support them, including two-finger scrolling, and three-finger click. What's more, while the drivers themselves come from HP, they should work just fine on other laptops with a Synaptics trackpad. Hit up the link below to try it out for yourself.

Until recently the touchpad used to work with the HP / Synaptic driver. 2 or 3 finger function worked and turn on / off with the orange light worked.  For whatever reason these functions don't work anymore and I don't find a driver on the HP Support site to download and install.

How can I turn off my touchpad? When i select disable in control panel for my "clickpad or synaptic pointing device", it does not STAY disabled.

Hi korndorb, Normally, on HP Notebooks, double tapping the upper left corner of your touch pad shoud disable and re-enable it. Most of the Notebooks might have an LED light indicator next to it to indicate whether it is ON or OFF whereas a few don't.  Can you please give me the Product Number or the Model Number of your Notebook so that I can confirm whether this feature is available on your Notebook? Please do not provide the Serial Number publicly here as it is personal information.  I am waiting to hear back from you. !------------------- Please click the KUDOS star on the left to say 'Thanks'.Please mark 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. I have had the HP Envy for nearly three years now and barely use it due to the trackpad issues. This is completely unacceptable and I will NEVER purchase from HP again. I can barely navigate my desktop using the trackpad. I'm disgusted with HP who has done nothing to fix this problem despite how long this notebook has been on the market. If anyone would be willing to walk me through troubleshooting tips, I'd be very appreciative since HP themselves has no interest in helping their consumer.

I have a HP ENVY 15 Notebook PC (LW897AV), running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1, originally purchased in June 2012. I generally use this notebook at my home office, and have a wireless mouse at my desk for day-to-day activities.  But when not at my desk, I like to use the touchpad rather than bring the mouse with me.  About a week ago I went to do just that, but found the touchpad unresponsive.  I clicked on the synaptics (?...I think this is what it was, see below comments) icon in the bottom right tray to bring up its control panel.  It showed the touchpad as enabled, and I tried to toggle back and forth but no change occurred.  I tried various other minor things with no response either, then had to go so stopped messing around. Today I came back to try and fix this again.  When I went to find the synaptics (?) button to try that route again, it was no where to be found.  I can't find it under any menus/headings, or via a search.  So either I am remembering the name completely wrong, or it is gone.  Needless to say the touchpad still is not responding.   I did try to do a "restore", and chose a point in late December since I am 100% sure it was functional then.  The other restore point was in late January, and I can't say for certain exactly when this started since I default to the mouse when at my desk....but I think it only started 1-2 weeks ago.  This did not solve the issue either... Tonight my touchpad stopped working on my laptop, Envy x360 with Windows 10 (I don't know if it's 32 or 64 and I don't know how to check).  In looking around the internet it seemed as if I needed to do something in Device Manager but there are no choices for touchpad in my Device Manager.  I couldn't find the drivers for the touchpad relative to Windows 10 and didn't want to load the ones for Windows 8 and mess the machine up more I'm getting very frustrated.  I've turned it off and on a couple of times hoping that would do something and it's done nothing more than frustrate me even more.  HELP!

Hello,  I'm here to express my frustration with the computer I have purchased last year and the inept service agents who have continuously transferred me several times every time I call.  The touch pad on my HP 15T slim quad notebook has barely worked since day one. I travel a lot and every time I'm given the opportunity to be with my family and use my laptop,  I shouldn't have such a horrific experience with the touch pad clicking everything and rendering the computer useless. I have adjusted the settings and sensitivity but nothing corrects the issue. I finally sent it in to get repaired and I was elated that the problem was finally fixed,  but I was wrong. It worked for one month and hasn't worked properly since. I then call and get transferred around to no avail. I spent over an hour on the phone yesterday and was transferred time and time again because no one could help me. Last month I endured the same thing.  I have 2 (removed content). I have a laptop that is now a few weeks out of warranty and an issue that was never resolved. I cannot get anyone to help me and have a useless laptop that clicks everything on the screen and right clicks on its own and closes windows. It is intolerable and completely unacceptable for a computer and company of this caliber.  Please help me resolve my issues so I do not have to spend my time off on the phone getting bounced around. I have been running windows 10 for almost a year with no problems to my touchpad. Today it stopped working completely. I went into the device manager and it showed the touchpad still connected. I restarted my computer and now it is as if my touchpad does not exist at all. The drivers for the touchpad are installed and I checked for updates. Could it be that the connection inside the laptop has come loose?

Alright so I've been having some issues with my HP Envy 15-Q004TX and the touchpad. I recently purchased the laptop, and it was going fine. I decided to speed up the laptop and bought a 500GB SSD to put inside, and install windows. Altough this laptop did not come with a CD, through my University I was able to get an install of Windows 8.1 Professional free, and so I installed that. So what's my problem? Well every so often the touchpad begins to spazz out. The cursor begins to jump all over the place, sometimes it will automatically open windows 8's charm bar. Sometimes it just stops working for several seconds. But worst of all, sometimes the two finger scroll will just stop working, and instead of scrolling, the cursor just moves up. THe only way to fix it, is to go to the mouse settings in the control panel and select 'Reset Devices' and then it just works as normal. Sometimes the mouse will be find for half an hour to an hour, sometimes I will need to reset it after 5 minutes. What I have done. Reistalled WindowsCompletely uninstalled and deleted driversInstalled new drivers from the official HP pageTried other versions of drivers No matter what I do, it eventually stops working properly. This is incredibly annoying. If I cannot fix it, I'll take it back and get another. Thanks very much!

Hi guys. I wonder if there are any solutions for the following problem I am having with my touchpad. The touchpad mouse is imprecise. So when you move it to a precise position (for example, trying to close a page by pressing the X on any Windows program), the mouse moves AS SOON AS YOU LIFT YOUR FINGER OFF THE TOUCHPAD. So naturally, when you press the touchpad to confirm your action, you actually press something else! This happens about 20% of the time. So there are many times when you think you are selecting an icon, or pressing a button, and when you lift your finger from the touchpad, the mouse arrow moves about 1cm on the screen.I have tried downgrading the Synaptics touchpad driver to an older version (which doesn't solve the problem). I have even tried to remove the driver completely, which results in the right-click button being totally disabled. Please help, as this is a really basic requirement for any touchpad. I am currently a little disappointed as this is the most expensive laptop i have ever purchased. The touchpad/ imagepad has many functions, but the simple ability to be unable to point to exactly where you need to 20% of the time, is making this almost unusable. Notebook details: HP Envy 17 - Windows 8.1 - Core i7-4702MQ - 12GB - 64 Bit - HD Touchscreen - LeapMotion  Purchased December 2013. I look forward to your help guys! Thank you.

Hi Supak, sorry to hear that you are having issues with the Touch Pad on your notebook. I do appreciate that you listed information about your notebook, however I will need to know the exact model number that is listed on the bottom of the computer under the battery on a white sticker. It will look something like " Envy 17-3000" series.  Please write back at your convenience and I will be happy to help.

Thank you.
