Q: All browsers are super slow after win 10 upgrade -

After completing the Win 10 upgrade process everything looked really good....until I started browsing the internet.
All my browser's are slow as molasses and getting tons of connection time outs.

Anyone else having the same problem?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Are you using Edge?

Just recently got rid of spyware from this computer. It was running just fine. I downloaded spyware guard, snoopfree, & zone alarm on my system. Didn't seem to have any problems. I went out of town on Saturday and when I tried to use my computer on Sunday, it acted like it had crashed. I reset my monitor, first and a pop up floated on the screen that had something like no connection found. Then I rebooted my computer without any problems. No sign of the pop up that was floating around before. However, my internet connection browsers (IE & Mozilla) & Outlook Express have been extremely slow, sometimes taking over 5 minutes to load webpages. My email has sometimes stalled and had to start over again and I get 4 or 5 of the same email.
I uninstalled spyware guard, snoopfree, & zone alarm, hoping they were the cause of my slow internet connection. NO such luck. I called my service provider (cable connection) and they report there have been no problems with the connection in my area.
I am ready to pull my hair out..... I hope someone might be able to help me.
Here is my HJT Log and I have also done an Ewido scan.

I have no idea how this happened. Last week I was using my backup PC. I run F.F as my default browser. I noticed my home page was not loading properly. It was missing images & other sections simply wouldn't load right. ESPN.com would look crazy, sorta like looking at the site on a cheap cell phone. I would have to refresh the site 3-4 times before most of the page looked right. I then noticed that it took forever for the page to load. It totally acted like I have a dial up connection. I have R.R. cable speed. I thought maybe it was F.F. like it was corrupted somehow. I tried using IE & it had the same problems. I've rebooted several times with no luck. My laptop runs off the same router with no problem so its not the cable speed. I did a virus scan then rebooted, no change. I did notice that the whole PC would get super slow if I was running Limewire or Utorrent. I would not even be DL anything & the whole PC would get slow to the point my cursor didn't work right. It might take 10-20 seconds for the cursor to move across the length of the screen. I would always have to re-boot to make the problem go away.
-Does anyone have any idea as to why my Browsers are not loading properly?
-Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Thanks for your help!!

Hey everyone, I bought an almost new second hand 2nd gen X1 carbon a few mths back.  I absolutely love the laptop, been looking for something slim, sleek and powerful, but I'm having some serious performance related problems with it.  I usually have a lot going on, many browser windows, excel sheets, work docs, outlook, pdfs, skype, photoshop, AVG AV, etc all running for my work simultaneously and the laptop just can't keep up.  It's extremely slugish, slow and freezes constantly.  My CPU, Memory and Disk is always maxed out when I check task manager (90-100%). My currently machine has 4GB ram (mistake #1) and equipped with the i5-4300U CPU (1.90GHz 2.49GHz). I'm trying to find a replacement, but I don't want to spend over 2K on a new laptop.  I'm trying to find some used Gen 4s for sale.  I believe a Gen 3 might also give me some issues.  I found a good deal on the below: X1 - 4th Gen Intel Core i7-4600U processor. 3.3 GHz Turbo Boost -Intel HD 4400 Graphics -Windows 10 Professional 64-bit -8GB DDR3 Memory -256GB Premium SSD Storage -14.0" 1600x900p display  I tried looking this up on the Lenovo site and I don't see this CPU offered on the 4th gen.  Is this a false advertisement ad or is it an actual Gen 4? Any suggestions on the above, or the Gen 3s? Is their any other Lenovos which are also slim and powerful which can handle my workload and is suggested? Thanks!Dan

Hi everyone!

I have Toshiba Satellite P50t-b-113 laptop which I have recently upgraded from W8.1 to W10. Ever since the upgrade it's running extremely slow. It takes about 3-4 minutes to boot up (to show desktop) and than another 1-2 minutes to start all the programs. When I'm starting chrome for the first time I have to wait around 1 minute for it to start. Never had that issue before... It started when I upgraded to Windows 10. Does it mean that my laptop isn't good enough for W10?

I live in South Korea. The internet here is unbelievably fast. I've done 3 speed tests tonight, and the download speed averages between 20-40mbps, upload speed between 40-75mbps. However, when I try to watch streaming videos online, it's ridiculously slow. And it's not just one site. It seems to be all of them. Youtube, Comedy Central, BBC, and MSNBC have all been really slow. I notice it the most around 10:00-11:00pm here (only because that's when I come home from work), which is right at the same time most Americans are starting to go to work. Is it possible that the United States 9-5 workforce uses up so much bandwidth on their morning rounds through the internet that it could devastate my access to streaming video here?

A brief synopsis: The majority of videos I try loading require an obscenely long buffer time (upwards of 20 minutes for a 2 minute video). Not always, but usually. However, oftentimes YouTube will only buffer the first 20% or so of the video. So after I play it for a little bit, it inevitably catches up with the buffer and I have to wait again. Even video quality as low as 240p still sometimes takes an awfully long time to load.

Does anybody have any theories? I was able to watch the presidential debate earlier today live just fine (10am here, 7pm Denver time). Am I just trying to play videos at peak bandwidth times? Are there any ways around this? Could there be another explanation? This has been a rather consistent problem since I got i... Read more

Americans use the Internet non-stop round the clock, so that's not the probable reason. I think your ISP is throttling your speed for videos sites. You should contact your ISP and complain.

We recently got 100Mb fibre optic broadband from Virgin Media, but it's been 2 days now and various speedtests report only 2-3Mbps. Other computers around the house get around 20Mbps (none have 100Mbps).

My laptop is a Dell Inspiron N5110, so it's not old, and I run both Linux and Windows 7 (dual boot) - neither OS gets more than 2-3Mbps. I've also tried moving to various spots around the house, to no avail.

I also tried downloading a large torrent (legal) with thousands of seeders to see how fast it would download, and it stuck at around 1Mbps, never any faster.

Why is this? If we're paying for 100Mbps, surely I should expect more than 3Mbps? Other computers on the same network get 10 times this so the issue is with my laptop?

Thankyou for sorting out my Desk top. (From which I am writing this.)

Now, my office laptop has gone on strike. It is an HP Pavillion XP. I have already downloaded HihackThis and the Analyzer, to C:\ HJT, but I am not sure how to disable the 'system restore' to begin the log.

It was going slow before I took a short break, and yesterday, having taken an age to start up, it then kept sticking. At one point I timed it taking 3 mins to open the menu from 'Start' and then another 7 mins to open the 'Programme' menu!

I did an NAV Update- 3 times -as it would not install after downloading. So, I followed the Symantec site advice and downloaded the Intelligent Updater direct. Then I ran LiveUpdate again. I assumed the virus updates would be complete, but they ALL updated again. But, this time successfully. Then I did a scan, but all was OK. I noticed, however, that the laptop was working much better after this action, at least it IS working.

Recently, (before this) after failing to download SP2 on Dial-Up, the hard drive crashed. I took it to a 'PCDoctor' had the disk backed up, and they re-installed from the CD QuickRestore System Recovery, before re-installing from the backup copy. (In fact, I had to return it to be re-done as they had obviously used their own CD not my original one.)

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/ente...all_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

Please download Ad-aware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Also go here to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

OS: Vista is infamous for its constant annoyance to the user. This is somewhat unlikely, but it could be Vista slowing you down. I recommend upgrading to Win7 regardless.

Processor: The processor seems alright, so you're not having troubles there.

RAM: You may want to consider a RAM upgrade, as many applications (including games) do tend to stick around in memory until a restart. I'd have to say the lack of RAM is your issue. It shouldn't take much more, maybe another 1GB-2GB should fix it up.

Graphics: Nice graphics card, by the way. Beats mine ._.
AntiVirus: Well, the fact that you're careful on the Internet does NOT protect you from viruses. Not at all. I strongly recommend installing Avast! Also, I recommend installing MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and give your computer a nice scan with both of them.

Hello smart folks,

My Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop used to boot up in under a minute. Now, it takes several minutes and any time I run a program it takes a long time for them to boot up. And, heck, I see delays in programs while they're in use.

I just upgraded from 512MB to 2 GB of RAM hoping that would help. It didn't.

I've followed your steps and I think my computer is a lot safer now. Thank you.

I run Norton antivirus.

I feel like the biggest contributor to my laptop's slowness is Enterprise Office 2007. Some little searching magnifying glass seems to always be on and my computer's hard drive seems to grind a lot even when the computer should be sitting there idle.

If I open a Microsoft Office 2007 program like Word, Excel, or Outlook, they open REALLY slowly.

Also, can you please recommend a good registry scrubber? I like freeware, but I'll buy it if I must. That RegCure program seems like a scam. Below is my HiJack This log. I've also included the start up log below it since my start up is so slow.

Thank you.

I've had this Dell Dimension 5100 for almost a year now, and everything has been flawless until recently. Now when I turn it on, it takes a long time to stop loading everything - it sits at the "Welcome" screen for 3x as long as before, then when the desktop shows up, it's only the wallpaper. Eventually the icons appear. After that it still takes quite a bit longer than earlier for the hard drive to settle down. Also, if I use standby, my computer becomes slower and less responsive (especially while surfing), eventually getting to the point where I just have to restart it. Sometimes it won't even turn off unless I hold the button down for 5 seconds. I have clicked on the "Turn Off" icon and left the house for work, only to return to the "Windows is saving your settings..." screen 9 hours later. Spyware/virus/HiJack scans produce nothing of significance. I have run WindowBlinds for months as well, with no issues until the same time recently when "the memory cannot be read..." errors started popping up. Re-install did nothing, so I no longer run it, and the errors are now gone. I'm at my wit's end. Any suggestions? Thanks a bunch...

A:super-slow startup, slow glitchy comp

Well when you have windowsblinds using it to make you a desktop that uses up quite a bit of memory and makes your computer take a while to start up. Also you might have quite a bit of stuff in your start up. To check this click start run and type in msconfig and uncheck everything you don't need in start up. If you want to make it easier you can get a tuneup utilities trial and use the start up manager and delete any and all start up entries you don't need as well as restore them if you need them later. Also you might need to run the registry cleaner that comes with the trial of tuneup utilities. It would be easier to install it and just click on the 1 click maintenace on the desktop if you installed it and checked the option to put it on your desktop. Here is the link to it: http://www.tune-up.com/download/tu2006/ all you have to do is enter you email address and click the button and it will download. If you need any further help just reply.

My problem started when Microsoft Security Essential couldn't finish a complete scan on my computer. It would stop in the same file every time. I used some other programs like Malwarebytes and Hijackthis to see if there was anything wrong with the computer but nothing came on. (I also scanned the file individually with MSE and it scanned it just fine).
I decided to uninstall MSE and get AVG antivirus instead. AVG does scan my computer completely (with good results) but it takes foreeeever. I think the slowness started before I uninstalled MSE, so really MSE might be completely unrelated to everything. I'm not completely sure about that, though. The biggest problem about this is that I know nothing about computers.
This computer was a gift and the main thing I use it for is for picture editing and surfing the web, which I think is a bad idea because I don't think this computer has what's needed for such spacious activities. I'm not sure, though. Like I said, the world of computers is really far away from the world I live in): I really need your help, everyone!

This is a repost of a 6/15 post deleted without a response. Problem dates from the May Microsoft security update. The computer was unusable until I disabled Defender, which ran at 100% cpu. I use Firefox and Eudora. Firefox often takes 2 minutes to launch and navigates slowly. WMP and Flash use 100% cpu and won't display video. IE does not display most graphics, just frame with X box inside. IE links don't work ("page cannot be displayed" message)Ran cleanmgr, scanned with AdAware SE and Spybot (very slow). I was unable to use Panda Anti Virus or Bit defender because IE links are blocked (Page cannot be displayed). Unable to use Housecall on Firefox because Housecall cannot locate Java. Eset NOD32 is installed and updates daily, scans all files daily using 100% cpu during scan. Ran McAfee Stinger. MS firewall is disabled. I'm using the hardware firewall in my 2-wire router. Ran Autoruns; the log is attached. Ran Hijack This. Past week i've had really slow internet speeds, I've tried reset my box. No one else is using my router- it's secure. So i ran a malewarebytes scan, had two trojans. But i still believe i've got a virus or two hidden somewhere. The internet generally just stops any loading of the website and just stays on a white screen.

Okay, I now have my new motherboard installed. It's an ASUS nForce2 A7N8X-X.

And...it turns on! It shows the initial screen. Thats a good thing. But...

It says my main processor (Athlon 1600+) is clocked at 1050mhz while in fact it should be 1400mhz. It also shows my Memory Frequency as being 100mhz, Single Channel mode, which I'm pretty sure is incorrect because it's DDR2100.

And then it says "Detecting IDE drives..." and stays there. I have;

1 120gb hard drive set as master
1 40gb hard drive set as slave
1 DVD-ROM set as slave
1 CD-RW set as master

The two optical drives are on the secondary IDE channel, and the hard drives are on the primary IDE channel. All have power. Any help appreciated

I know one thing for sure that there is no virus since I am using AVG 8.0.1 and threatfire. what to do? A window also opens saying ACPMain "reinstall performance center" I did some search on it and I know it has something to do with UPS but I dont have a UPS nor is my computer secondhand. I truly need help and would be highly thankful of the one who will solve my problem.

A:super slow

Firstly, please note that an antivirus program such as AVG does not protect you from ALL the nasties out there.

I recommend you do a system cleanup using CCleaner, followed by chkdsk and a defragment.

Then I recommend you scan your PC for adware /malware using Spybot SD and Lavasoft Adaware 2007.

My computer is running very very slow and mostly when I'm on the internet or running a program to help my computer. I'm using XP on an older Dell. Word seems to be fine now, as is generally navigating around my system. Also, I'm getting "device driver not installed" over the wireless icon in my tray. I've tried a number of things, and will start with the most recent and go backwards.I'm running GMER now in Safe Mode with Networking. After 11 hours, it's found one item and is currently scanning the Program files. When I highlight the found item and right click, all the options (including Delete and Disable Service) are grayed out except Options and About. I noticed it's spending a few hours in Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Help.Last night I tried to run ComboFix a couple of times from Safe Mode with Networking, and it barely gets started - never got to where it says it changed the clock or anything completes. (A friend suggested it, before I read all the stuff here about it).I uninstalled all the virus malware software with an uninstaller program (starts with an R) and did the complete detailed uninstalls. Still, some of those programs showed up in my Start Program Menu, and I uninstalled them from there. Still couldn't get ComboFix to run. Before all that, I let Piriform Defraggler run for about 28 hours. It made it to 5% and showed it had over a day left. I have about 50% of my disk that is fragmented. I stopped it.... Read more

Everything on my computer is super slow. At first, I thought it was exhibiting many of the traits of the Cool Web Search that I once had, but now I'm not sure if it's somehing else. First off, I have a pentium 3 450mhz processor. Not exactly up to date, I know, but I don't think I should be having any problems neccessarily. I am running Windows98, have 512mb of ram, and a Motorola SB4200 cable modem with high-speed service from Cox Communications. I recently installed Norton Internet Security 2005. I regularly run it, along with Ad Aware and Spybot, religiously checking for updates every time. I always defrag and disk cleanup, and have recently deleted a TON of stuff off my hard drive. I keep programs that are running at one time to a minimum to preserve ram, but things just still seem to run really slow.

When I first got my high speed service, it worked amazingly, but now over the past month or so, it has gotten progressively slower, as have many of the other applications that are not related to being online. For example, when I click 'start' it has taken almost a minute for anything to happen and the computer freezes momentarily. I mention this because seemingly, it's not exclusively an internet issue, although my connection speed seems to be the biggest problem.

It takes a RIDICULOUSLY long time for pages to load, and when I go to type information into the address bar, or sign into an email account, I start to type, and all of a sudden when ... Read more

hey there capt,

do you have Ad-Aware, or Spybot? both programs that search your computer for spyware. id suggest that you down them(the links in my signature will take you to downloads) and run them and than make sure to check all bugs... once all have been checked, go to bottom and click on next... make sure to update those 2 programs before every scan
and if that hasnt helped, please come back and post again.

A:PC has got super slow...

It doesn't appear that you have any overheating or other eviidence of hardware problems.

Most of the uncommon errors cite McAfee and your USB3 driver.  I would (temporarily) uninstall ALL of the McAfee software and uninstall/reinstall the USB3 driver...and see how the system runs.  If the slowness disappears, great.  If not, we will try another route.

Java should either be removed totatlly...or updated.  When updating, all old versions should also be removed manually, as suggested at the Java website.

There's always the possibility of malware...we don't assess that in this forum...forget the possibility, for the moment unless you have reason to suspect infection.

Hi. My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium. My IE version is 8.0.7600.16385. It's been working well until last night. Now suddenly, when I'm trying to go into large websites, everything takes halfway to forever to load.

I even restored to any earlier point. Still the same problem. (By the way, I had difficulty restoring. I kept getting error messages. In the end I uninstalled Kaspersky, restored to an earlier point, reinstalled Kaspersky.)

Any suggestions?

A:IE8 super slow

Hi Robert, loading pages may be due to your ISP's speed at any given time. Do you have another browser to test with?
Have a look at Intenet Speed tests and see what your results are.

EDIT: Also upgrading to IE9 has been reported by a few people to give faster surfing too. It should be showing in your Windows Updates now.

Hi Ovie,
1. Download all by Free Download Manager - file - Did you install this program yourself? If not, I would strongly recommend that you uninstall it.
Uninstalls: Start>Control Panel>Add Remove Programs

2. MessengerPlus3 is a third party MSN Messenger extension that adds a number of useful features but also bundles the hard to remove C2Media LOP adware. The software does offer you a choice during setup to make sure to install MessengerPlus WITHOUT that "sponsor program"! Do you remember if you've installed it WITHOUT that 'sponsor program". If you did, it's fine, otherwise I would recommend that you uninstall it:

Download and run the LOP Uninstaller here: http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/downloads.htm

Close all browser windows, run the remover, reboot.

2. Run HijackThis again and put a checkmark against these:Blue hihglighted ones are only to be fixed if you've uninstalled them.

Guys,

I have a very odd situation.

When I am online it takes forever to switch from one channel to another when I tab.

If I play chess, the graphics also take forever and the website moves do not make any sound and

I’ve done Disk Fragmenting, Disk Cleanup, C cleaner, Cache cleanup, Super Antispyware, Malwarebytes, autoruns and removed all graphics from My Pictures.

Do I need a faster PC as my Internet connection is at max?

Hi,
I have a Windows Vista Home Premium machine acting as a VPN server. I have a laptop at my friends house also running Windows Vista Home Premium. On the Vista client, under the networking tab, I unchecked Use default gateway on remote network for both ipv6 and ipv4. The VPN works super fine and super fast. But, when I have the same settings on my Windows 7 Pro laptop, it runs fast at first but then runs like it is dial up. Sometimes, it runs so slow that it doesn't even connect to the shared files and folders. Please help!

Any ideas on what might be causing my hard drive to run super slow after booting? I'm running Windows 2000 Pro on a light-use machine and recently I've had to wait 10mins or more after booting to be able to access anything. TaskMngr shows that Services.exe is snarfing 98-100% CPU during this time.

HijackThis log attached. I'd be very grateful for anybright ideas on how to resolve the problem.

Hi all,

My computer has been running pretty slow lately. I'm not sure if it's because it's 4 years old or something else. Every time I open Chrome, it takes at least a minute to load the Homepage (which is Google.com). The same happens when I'm just opening my files/folders. And yet, once in a while it's pretty fast. Not sure what's going on. What should I post on here to give more insight to the potential problem?

Thanks,
Grace

Over the last months my PC has been getting slower and slower. and slower.... When I turn on the PC, it takes about 20 minutes for Windows to load. Similarly starting up Outlook Express takes about 5 minutes or more. All activities are slow--including using the Internet.

I have a Dell Dimension 2400, Pentium4, 2.66GHz, 256MB Ram, running Windows XP, Version 2002, with Service Pack 2 installed.

Any suggestions, help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A:Help! My PC is Super-Slow

One thing you could try is to upgrade your RAM. 256 is way too low. Minimum should be around 512 and recommended is at least 1 gig. The other thing is that you computer could be infected.

THere are a few unnecessary things in your log, but I don`t think there is anything bad. You could get an expert to check it by posting in the "Security" forum here.

Otherwise
256MB RAM is really not enough for XP to perform properly. Make it up to 512MB minimum.

Here are some things which can help

1 In msconfig, disable everything not needed at start up. It will also tell you if anything nasty is in there.

Start/Run/ msconfig
Startup
Keep the page open then go to link below.

http://www.sysinfo.org/startupinfo.html

Read the Key at foot of page, then click on "Here" at top. Use the Search box to check all your entries

2 Disable all unnecessary Services. The site below is trusted, but make sure to follow the advice carefully.

http://www.theeldergeek.com/s.htm

3 What do you have running all the time in the background? If you use Automatic Updates it will slow down the system.

4 Run Disk Cleanup
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Cleanup
Click OK to clean up the "C" drive first
It will take a little while to "calculate"
Look at what is checked for deletion in the box. Make sure that "Compress old files " is NOT checked. The rest is your choice.
The main thing to check is "Temporary files" as they need to be cleaned out.
You should do this regularly

5. Go to
IE/Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Security
Put a check in "Empty temporary internet files folder when browser is closed"
