I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A number of my users are randomly corrupting their roaming profiles. There appears to be no set pattern and it can happen either following logoff or even when they are logged on.
They all have Win7 SP1.
I know how to reset and fix the corrupted profile, but I want to understand what the best course of action to establish the root cause of the corruption.
There is a hot fix KB2918893 which claims to prevent the issue, however I have found profiles corrupting with or without that patch installed.
There always appears to be some associated Application EventLog entries as follows:
EventID 6001 - Warning - Microsoft-Windows-Winlogon - The winlogon notification subscriber <sens> failed a notification event
EventID 6004 - Warning - Microsoft-Windows-Winlogon - The winlogon notification subscriber <GPClient> failed a critical notification event.
EventID 6006 - Warning - Microsoft-Windows-Winlogon - The winlogon notification subscriber <profiles> took 78 second(s) to handle the notification event (logon)

Hello, I recently tried to filter events of the .NET runtime provider by their event ID. This should be accomplished through enabling the .NET runtime provider with
EVENT_FILTER_TYPE_EVENT_ID flag being set in the EVENT_FILTER_DESCRIPTOR structure, unfortunately the
EnableTraceEx2 function returns 87. If I try to enable the provider with the
EVENT_FILTER_TYPE_SCHEMATIZED flag instead of the EVENT_FILTER_TYPE_EVENT_ID, the provider gets enabled so I came to the conclusion that the
EVENT_FILTER_TYPE_EVENT_ID is the invalid parameter.

Enabling the session:
The LogFileMode member of the EVENT_TRACE_PROPERTIES
structure is set to EVENT_TRACE_FILE_MODE_CIRCULAR, EVENT_TRACE_PRIVATE_LOGGER_MODE
AND EVENT_TRACE_PRIVATE_IN_PROC (<- supports this mode scoped filters?).

According to
MSDN enabling scoped filters should be possible for private logging mode sessions or am I missing something?

Hey all,
I am having an issue with a user connected to our local domain. Whenever they try to log in, it keeps displaying "Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service." I have tried multiple ways of addressing it and have
had no luck with a fix for this. I have tried:

Using 'netsh winsock reset'Uninstall and reinstall network adapter driversClean booting and trying to isolate the issue (did not find anything)
Deleting the font cache Tinkering with the service settings Disabling anti-virus and restarting
System Restore
None of these are fixing the issue for my particular system. It always comes back. The hardest part about troubleshooting this issue is how sporadic it is. It happens every other time the user logs in.

The only other fix I have not tried the hotfix they released for this yet. I don't want to install this until I have exhausted all of my options as this could create more problems.
We have 50+ other computers running Windows 7 on this domain with absolutely 0 issues. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like a possible malware infection. Go here:

http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/download

Download HijackThis, install using the default settings, and launch the program.
Click "scan and save a logfile."
DO NOT HAVE IT FIX ANYTHING YET! Most of what it finds will be harmless or even necessary. Copy the ENTIRE text of the logfile and close the program.
Paste the contents of the logfile back here in your next reply and wait for one of this site's malware experts to have a look at your log. They will provide you with further instructions.
You can use the "report" button to politely request that your thread be relocated to the Malware Removal/HJT forum.

In the meantime, you may wish to have a look at the "sticky" threads in the General Security forum:

Viewed the Events I see to error messages:

Hi,

I have recently upgraded from Windows XP to 7 and everything has been great apart from sometimes when switching users (either logging off one account and logging into another/or using the switch user tool) the user profile doesn't load. So all the desktop settings etc do not appear. This forces me to restart so that everything can be loaded.

I have looked in the event logger and it comes up with the following:

Quote:
Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile.

Are you experiencing actual system problems or did you just come upon this entry and assumed it is an error of some kind?

A couple of days ago, i set my computer for a 'Administrator User Account login/w password' before windowsXP would boot. The next time i went to start up windows, either i forgot the correct password or the correct password would not work, nevertheless i could not get by the Administrator user to get windows started. After fooling around, somehow i got a user log in and got in without any password.

Everything is fine except i decided to do a full reformat(im experienced). Instead of getting my computers reformat page, i got the following:

"stop:c0000218 (registry file failure)the registry cannot load the hive file...
\systemroot\system32\config\security or its log or alternative it is corrupt,
abscent, or not writeable"

I did a system restore,no luck.

Again everything seems fine except trying to do a reformat. I fiqure sooner or later the problem will show up elsewhere if i dont take care of it now.

Windows will not boot on my Dell Desktop system. I get the following error:
Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing or corrupt. Status:Oxc000014C
I stupidly did not have a recovery disk for this system so I created a recovery disk on another Windows 10 system. I tried the repair feature but it wasn't able to repair my registry. I don't have any backup images (again, stupid!). What can I do to repair
my system?
Some history:
I recently switched over to a new boot disk (an SSD) which has been booting just fine. Today I got a message from my Norton software that I needed to reboot to install a security patch. Perhaps this was a virus I picked up, because that was the last thing
I did.
I am happy to run commands on the DOS prompt (from recovery disk) if there is something I can do.
thanks in advance for any help you can provide,
Kozbo (Kevin)

Hi Folks,

I have an application (LabVIEW) which uses MS Office (specifically) to write data to reports. Our company migrated from Office to Kingsoft. The report generator does not work.

However, I have Office on my laptop and recently installed Kingsoft. LabVIEW opens Kingsoft with no problem. A peek at the code inside LabVIEW revealed it is calling the OLE class Excel.Application or Word.Application. Since Office was removed, so were the registry entries.

Does anyone know which registry values can be added with the class of Excel and Word, but point to Kingsoft? I do not believe this would be illegal in any sense...

Thanks,
-John

Windows 8.1 Pro x64 - please find the complete system log warning details below and a (related or not?) disk controller error below.  Motherboard is an ASRock B75 Pro 3 with an Intel B75 Chipset.
I keep getting these warnings.  I get them for all my Windows Portable Devices (disk drives) on boot up.  Here are my disks:
Disk 0 on internal SATA 3 connector off an
ASMedia ASM1061 chip on motherboard (internal drive, but enumerated as removable) - Seagate ST100DM003-1CH162 D: data drive
Disk 1 on internal SATA 3 connector off the B75 chipset on motherboard (internal drive, not enumerated as removable - gives no warnings or errors - Seagate ST100DM003-1CH162 C: system drive (has Windows 8.1 OS on it)
Disk (2 or 3 depends on order of USB connection) on external USB 2.0 connector off back I/O panel of motherboard - Kingston DT 101 II USB device F: backup thumb drive
Disk (2 or 3 - depends on order of USB connection) on external USB 3.0 connector off back I/O panel of motherboard - Seagate BlackArmor DAS35 USB device G: backup external hard drive
There are no symptoms other than another (probably unrelated) disk controller error (shown below).  The controller error is on either drive 2 or 3, but never 0 or 1, so it is one of the external back up drives (the thumb drive or the BlackArmor drive).
Note that on boot up I get the warning for disk 0 above whether or not the external drives are connected so the disk controller error may be unrel... Read more

I logged on to my computer as an administrator and my desktop didnt display for about 4 minutes. There was only a black screen with the white mouse arrow on it. When the desktop had loaded a Windows notification
bubble popped up saying:

"Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification
Service service. This problem prevents limited users from logging on to the
system. As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn't respond."

I don't believe that I have installed any software etc. recently that could have caused this problem to occur. It just randomly happened one day. In sync with this error I am unable to connect to the internet using my 3 mobile modem and my laptop isn't recognising any wireless signals bringing up the message:

We had a visit from the nephew this past weekend and he brought down the thunder on my fresh installation of Windows XP. I only reinstalled XP due to a HDD hardware failure. Anyhow...without permission my nephew jumps off playing minecraft on the xbox360 to play it on the pc. I walk in as he is clicking "yes" to numerous dialog boxes. The damage was already done. I had 4 toolbars, numerous shopping software installs, yonton (eset found and removed), we-care, and w3i net assistant.

Using control panel add/remove programs I was able to remove most. Yonton(sp?) was removed from an eset's scan. We-care and w3i will not uninstall. Avast didn't find anything wrong. I can't run malwarebytes, ccleaner, or even install some (maybe all) programs. During any install i've done I get a class not registered error. Also there are 3 files with no name or file extension in my control panel. If I right click them i get a sub menu asking me if I want to delete short cut.

Please help.

I've searched for about a week now and have not found a solution. I followed the suggestions about the corrupt Profile and the .BAK SID, but neither are my situation.

My SID is fine - I did manage to find a temporary fix. If I delete and recreate the user in Active Directory on the server it fixes the problem. The problem is, I have 300 computers and every morning there are at least 10 - 15 users I must do this to. Not an ideal solution.

We bypassed Vista, so we had no idea that this Microsoft bug existed until last week.

Hi, at windows start i get the message "The User Profile Service failed to logon. User profile cannot be loaded". There was no known activity last time system was up and running and it was shut down normal.

The desctop(HP) was delivered some years ago with V7 installed, ONE personal userID with admin auth. was created. Then a System repair disc was created.

What is the safest and simplest way(if any) to fix this problem and maintain the user data?(I did see support strings about this problem but they seem very complicated and confusing to me)

1. Shoud I restart system some functional key to get into safe mode or use the System repair disc and then what option?

2. Should I then logon to the default accountID(not known to me), and restore system to older backup point or shoud I try to repair the personal UserId?

Please advice

I will give as best description of what happened and what I have tried so far.
1 - I allowed Windows to do an update and restart yesterday evening
2 - When the computer started back up, as usual, it asked me to enter my password. Unfortunately, the message that comes after reads "The User Service service failed the sign-in.  User profile cannot be loaded." and my only option I to click OK and return to the password-entry page.
3 - I have tried multiple ways to enter safe mode by first holding Shift+Restart in the lower right of the password-entry page, then Troubleshoot, Advanced options, Startup Settings, selecting option 4 "Enable Safe Mode"... And it just takes me back to that dang password-entry page.
4 - Next I tried System Restore.  Attempt #1- I set the restore point to the most current before the Windows Update I did the night before - the restore only runs about 1 min before showing an error (System Restore failed while scanning the file system on the drive C:/ The drive might be corrupt. You might want to retry System Restore after running cchdsk /R on this disk. An unspecified error occurred during System Restore - 0x80070571)
5 - System Restore Attempt #2 - This time I checked the box for "Show more restore points" and selected the farthest back (9/29/2015) restore point with Description "Automatic Restore Point" Type "System." This process ran for much longer, probably somewhere between 30-45min. Unfortunately, the process faile... Read more

Okay, so here's the deal. I had Windows Service Pack 2. Everything was just lovely, then I decided to FINALLY upgrade to Service Pack 3 because some high end Adobe products I was installing suggested it for better compatibility. Aiesh, so I took the plunge and tried to upgrade to Windows Service Pack 3. I was smart because of all the horror stories though and did a full backup up all my data including system state, etc. I set a system restore point, the whole nine yards. I upgraded with no problems but when the computer restarted it do so, got past POST, and the windows boot or load screen popped up with the loading bar. . . but windows never loaded! A lot of people report having problems where it get's past the windows load screen and just keeps cycle rebooting. Or it'll load to the user selection screen/welcome screen. This is not me, I am simply stuck at the windows load screen. (Picture below for reference)

So, I booted into safe mode with networking, searched for help EVERYWHERE and couldn't find any. -=/ By the way, I could boot into safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, and safe mode with networking. So I used my system restore point that had made before the SP3 upgrade and now I am typing to you from the comfort of my Service Pack 2. But this ticks me off because I want SP3 on my system for the sake of those Adobe programs and just because I can't get the dern thing on there it bugs me. A:Installed Windows Service Pack 3 Now Windows won't load past Windows Boot Load Screen

Hi sirdanceal0t,
I had a similar problem when Windows XP SP3 was released it was only designed for Intel processors, so if you have a AMD processor it will cause your system not to load, if you are running a AMD processor if i were you try and get back to the System Restore Point or if that fails reimage your pc and just before installing SP3 looks for the patch/fix for your processor model, then install SP3 and it should all be fine.

On the other hand if you have a Intel processor i woulldn't know what to advise.
