updated DVD drive firmware, now Vista cannot find drivers

Q: updated DVD drive firmware, now Vista cannot find drivers

Hi,

I just purchased a new Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, it has a TS-L633C DVD-RW drive.

I updated the DVD drive firmware to a version available on Dell's website (original D300, current DW10).

Now every time Vista starts, the "found New Hardware" wizard opens and attempts to install drivers for the DVD drive (which it doesn't find).

The drive functions perfectly, it appears in "Computer", and I am certain there are no drivers that need to be updated.

How do I get Vista to stop nagging me to update the drivers ?

Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Are you sure that's the correct firmware for that drive? Check the maker's tool here: SAMSUNG ODD SERVICE

Hello,
Is there any way to scan my system and just find all available driver updates? If not, is there any easier way to update drivers and/or firmware then just going to each manufacturer's website and downloading? Thanks

A:Is there a way to find out if updated drivers are available?

you can use Everest Home to tel you what version your drivers are. But when it comes to Firmware updates be careful. If the Firmware Update fails you could end up with a component that no longer works. Not all devices with Flash Upgrades to Firmware are reversable if it should fail.

Theres a printed manual coming with the machine saying I will find Support unter http://www.hp.com/support/DL60Gen9_Setup_en clicking that gives me just thatt "ooops"-Site used to be called 404. Using the Product Name or Product Number (P8Y77A) given in my invoice also does neither find Driver nor firmware Downloads for the product. I now searched the product in the HP store and found the Product Number YN0163 which could also be read as YNO163. After all theres no driver or supportfile findings for that product as well. So, don't HP support their own products anymore? kind regardsMichael

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. The original installation went just fine, but I never did test to see if transfer speeds were any faster. The instructions specifically mention to install the software first, then the hardware. Recently, I did a clean reinstall of Windows 7 Ultimate (x64). I never did remove the card. I tried running the software with the hardware already installed. Well, the drives are recognized and all, but the transfer rate between the two drives (one is Seagate 3.0 and one is WD 3.0) is only around 50 MB/sec...USB 2.0 speed, right?
So, from what I've been able to find over the past couple of hours is that I can't contact WD about the card. They know nothing, and the product can't be found on their website. In device manager, it's listed as NEC Electronics, and it seems there's been some combination of forces between NEC Electronics and Renesas.
Questions:
1. I have found updated drivers and firmware for NEC/Renesas USB 3.0 cards, but they are broken down into different models or families. For instance, most of them use a number along the lines of uPD720200/uPD720200A Version 2.1.27 WHQL
uPD720201/uPD720202 Version 3.0.8.0 WHQL
So, how do I find out what my uPD number is, so that I grab the right files?

I have a Compaq Presario Notebook CQ56-202SO about 5 yrs old. When Windows 10 came out I upgraded to that (from Windows 7) and everything has been working ok until lately. I now have some issues with the computer freezing up totally and/or getting a black screen after which I have to shut down and reboot (and then the same thing happens again). I got some advice in a Microsoft support forum to update my drivers. I am kind of a rookie when it comes to things like that but someone in the forum directed me to HP and where to get the drivers.  However, I don´t see any drivers for my computer now that it is running Windows 10 (it only offers for Windows 7).How do I go about this? And by the way, does my description of the problems I am having with my computer sound like driver problems to you guys? I´d really appreciate any help in this matter!Sorry if I have posted in the wrong forum, maybe admin could move my posting to the correct one in that case:

A:Notebook updated to Windows 10 - where to find the drivers?

Hi,Windows 10 should install all or most of the drivers automatically and if you go to device manager (right-click on start and click on device manager) see if there are any devices with yellow triangle near them or not recognized and we can try to help you find the driver. In device manager by right-clicking on the devices for example graphics you can click on update software and Windows will try to fing the most updated software. Naturally if any device is not working correctly you can try to find the drivers by either looking at the older drivers on this site and see if they are also released for windows 10 or teying some older drivers.OK, the problem you are experiencing could be driver related, however most driver related problems will first give a blue screen (that the OS has encountered an important error) and then reboot. To me your problem sounds like it is hardware related. I would first run diagnostics on hard drive with HP diagnostics or using software such as crystalmark.info and see if it passes all tests and is in health.http://crystalmark.info/download/index-e.htmlIf it has problems, back up all your personal data as soon as possible and replace hard drive, reinstalling windows 10.If all is good with hard drive I would run diagnostics on RAM such as memtest or HP diagnostics and see if all is well. Let me know if you need further help,David

Hey,

So I installed a fresh copy of Windows Vista assuming it would keep the drivers, how wrong was I!

Is there any way to easily reinstall them all?

I've reinstalled the wireless adaptor and it says it's functioning fine in device manager but... it won't pick up any wireless networks - any ideas on that one?

Thanks in advance!

A:Updated Vista - no drivers

When I go "diagnose and repair" it comes up with "A cable is not plugged into the network adapter "Local Area Network"" even though it recognises the Wireless Card under device manager...

Sometimes it will come up with "The computer does not have a wireless network adapter installed and configured" though. Which is even wierder as it's in device manager...

This is more of a post complaining than it is asking for help/advice.

Screen corruption has been a problem with every version of the nVidia driver's I've used, with the possible exception of the default ones Microsoft ships with Vista. I've tried whatever it was just before the 100.65s, then I tried the 100.65s, 101.70s and now 158.18. The problem has not gotten any better throughout all of these revisions.

This is what you see when Vista asks for your permission to do something. Notice how the continue button isn't even visible initially.

Now the continue button appears when the mouse is hovered over where you guess the button to be.

Hardware involved here is a eVGA 7800gs co AGP card. The pictures were taken with 158.18 drivers. The corruption isn't usually capturable with print screen, although after an "episode" with VLC it was and I got a screenie of it shoot me a message if you want to see it, but it contains some text that violates the TOS of this board. Basically everything is not displaying except the taskbar, and a few items I've drug the mouse over.

That is what happens if you open an app that drops Vista into Classic mode, the app that caused that was Trillian. On the right side of that 2nd pic was my Trillian buddy list AFTER I had minimized it. It shows up all washed out white in that pic because of the horrible lighting conditions for a digital camera shot, but in reality it was displaying... Read more

A:NVIDIA drivers for Vista suck (updated to include Win 7 and Server 2008 r2)

Perhaps your trouble is elsewhere. nVidia is universally rated by users (including this forum) as the best for video cards and for drivers. We see no special problems between VISTA and nVidia...
There are always troubles that crop up because video graphics cards are so fragile, but I would not consider a blanket indictment of nVidia as valid.
I would be more likely to consider power supply and memory.

Can anyone please tell me how to find an updated driver and firmware so I can get my Itunes to burn a CD. Now I received the following message: The registry settings used by Itunes drivers for importing and burning cds + dvds are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other cd burning software (which I didn't). I reinstalled itunes several times as suggested but that didn't work either. Sorry for the long message. My pc's with windows XP work fine..email and web pages work fine.

My 98 and me computers can't send emails or connect to some web pages. Other web pages come up fine.

I have called tech support about 5-6 times and tried many things with no results.

I have changed the MTU with 5 different sizes with no results.
Tried setting up the DNS on the pc itself with no luck
played with the port range forwarding by adding 110 25 113 and 80 with no luck.
Added 25, 110,25,143 to the port triggering settings with no luck either.

They are sending an older version of firmware but I was having problems accessing some sites with the older version with all my pc's so I feel I am kinda stuck. Tech support is not that good as every time I call...I get a different answer and the people barely speak english.

I just upgraded the firmware today(just released) on my Samsung 850 Pro SSD using samsung's Magician Software and everything went fine and the PC automatically shutdown. I waited a few seconds after the PC shut down and now I only get a black screen with a movable cursor. I'm currently using parted magic 2013 build to research how to fix this and I don't have another PC at the moment.

Things I've tried.
1. safe mode doesn't work
2. startup repair didn't fix anything.
3. Low res start up didn't fix the problem.
4. in parted magic it looks like all my files are still there.

I need this fixed fast as I don't have another PC and I would have to transfer my files to another drive and do a clean install on my samsung SSD.

Used to be able to access internet very within seconds of reaching the desktop. Now it seems like it takes 30-60 seconds for whatever reason. You may be able to load a page or two then it will lag and act like it is searching for internet, then it flashes to no internet and then says limited internet access and then it finally connects. All I did was upgrade my 840 SSD firmware from the 06 version to 09 version. Like an idiot I did not have system restore setup and ALSO did not do a backup before updating the firmware. I have been looking around for the old firmware version to see if that is indeed the issue but no look. Any advice on how to speed it back up or at least find that older version firmware?

A:Updated SSD firmware - PC lags to connect to internet after reboot

A system restore or backup wouldn`t help you in this case anyway, what you did has nothing to do with windows.

Even though it`s having an affect on it somehow

I would hope you have at least 1 disk image saved somewhere ?

Hi, I'm not great with computers but I had no problems with Windows XP. Now I have a computer with Vista SP1 on it which does not have access to the internet and whenever I plug in a device it asks for a disk for the drivers. This happens even for simple devices like USB flash drives. When I say "no disk" and ask it to search the computer it comes back with unable to find drivers. Surely Vista should have the necessary drivers?

Could someone please explain the purpose of the following folders:
c:\windows\inf
c:\windows\system32\drivers
c:\windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository

There are usbstor.inf files in the \filerepository folder but none in the \inf folder. Is that normal? I found various web advices which suggested to have Vista browse for the drivers in the folders mentioned above, as well as the \winsxs folder. However, Vista still can't find drivers.

I found a suggestion to delete the USB controllers in the device manager and reboot but after doing that my mouse (USB) no longer works. How do I fix this and make Vista find drivers?

Thank you for any suggestions.

Hi all.

I've been really tortured with a problem for about a month, with an Acer Aspire 5310, trying to find the proper drivers after downgrading it from Vista to XP. Well, what I got working so far are the Chipset driver and the VGA driver.

None of the sound drivers I've found has worked so far (Sound System: Intel High-Definition audio with MS-Sound compatible (and Dolby Digital Live)). I also have exclamation points in the Device Manager menu:
all under the heading "Other Devices": Ethernet Controller, Network Controller, Flash PCI Memory
and one under the heading "System Devices": PCI Device

I've been searching a lot, red about similar problems that other people had but yet no solution. I don't know what I do wrong or where else to search...

Do u know any link for what I really need? Or could u tell me the steps I should follow to fix this kind of mess? Please let me know as soon as possible, I will really appreciate it...

9. Waited for the router to reboot.
10. Under Maintenance, click Settings Backup, then click Erase.

Then this is where I started to have problems, the remaining steps I need to follow are:
11. Wait one minute for the router to reboot.
12. Manually enter the configuration information you wrote down in Step 4. Use the Smartwizard, or manually configure as shown in the box below.
If the router has problems, repeat the whole procedure, Steps 1-12.

The problem I am experiencing is after step #10, I am not sure what to do. I waited one minute and nothing happened. Then I am not sure where to enter the configuration information. I tried going to the original site... Read more

Dear Lenovo, After perusing the recent 2016/2017 comments by multiple users on similar posts about Ideapad Z510 battery from across locations/countries - it appears that the firmware that you had issued last year - has somehow got overwritten / superceded maybe in either late 2016  or early 2017 by some more recent/latest updates. I am writing from India and facing the same probem that the battery is showing 100% and then going off almost immediately. This probem had fortunately got solved last year when you had issued a firmware update - but now when i am trying to use the same files again - it basically conveys that "no battery available to update" because that particular firmware is already applied on our laptop. Hence, can you please release newer firmware update for this same issue -  using a z510 system having current till-date updates for different OS - win 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10 - same way as you have released for thinkpad series of laptops too on the weblink - http://support.lenovo.com/in/en/downloads/ds001322 Come to think of it - that if a fully working battery is being "prompted" as weak and "need to buy" - but actually is a fully functioning hardware - isnt it a bit of a letdown for your users??? - what to say of  some who might have already bought and replaced with newer replacement batteries - which is actually a completely avoidable cost? I am sure you need to resolve this issue soon so as to restore c... Read more

I've bought a 2TB Western Digital My Book Studio Edition II, and upon plugging it into my laptop, Windows was unable to find and install the drivers for it (which should be the generic drivers used for USB mass storage devices and not custom ones supplied by the manufacturer).

WD mention the problem on their website and offer little help other than to call their useless technical support (who were unable to help, by the way).

I've tried pointing to the drivers folder when installing the device but vista has been unable to find the drivers.

I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit.

I have tried the drive out on other machines and it has been fine, I even attempted reformatting the drive to see if that was the issue but I had no luck.

Does anyone have any suggestions how to help me out?

Hello All,
I have a HP Pavillion laptop which has Windows Vista preinstalled. I want to downgrade to Windows XP. I contacted HP and they told they dont support as HP doesent have drivers for Windows XP. So I wanted to know a list of components on my system, the drivers needed and where I can find those drivers, so that I can do the downgrading by myself.

A:Downgrade to Windows XP from Vista, Want to know all drivers and where to find them.

Many HP Pavilion computers, both laptop and desktop, do not provide drivers to downgrade from VISTA to WXP. When they do, they are listed on the HP web site.
Otherwise, you have to get the part numbers and chip numbers off each device, then do a search at the various driver sites.
Sometimes with HP, there is no alternate driver for XP.

Dear HP Experts, the Vista operating system in my Pavilion p6120sc must be upgraded to Windows 7. The compatibility test by Microsoft told that the current driver of my NVIDIA nForce 10/100 Mbps Ethernet is not valid in Windows 7. Hence, I was adviced to download the newest driver for that device in advance; but its installation should be done only after the installation of Windows 7.  Problem 1: What is the correct driver for NVIDIA nForce 10/100 Mbps Ethernet (i.e., valid in Windows 7), and where can I download it safely from (without viruses etc.)?  - I did extensive googling but could not find any answer that I could understand. Problem 2: The compatibility test also adviced me to uninstall Hårdvarudiagnostikverktyg version 5.1.5144.16 (PC-Doctor, Inc.) before upgrading the PC to Windows 7. However, I could not find any such program in my PC! Hence, how could I uninstall it properly? (Is that program perhaps somehow hidden in the HP service package that performs the Full Operation Test of my PC once in each month? Furthermore, would the HP test package function any more if that particular program were eliminated?)

Hi: You need to install the latest nvidia chipset driver from the link below and restart the PC. That will also update the ethernet controller driver so you can upgrade to W7. http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/14875/en-us As for the second issue, unfortunately I don't know what that is. It could be what you said it might be. There is a new program that is called the HP support assistant, which might do the same thing. http://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html#.Vy3_qeT2bGg

Welcome to TSF....

Since there has been a clean installation of Windows there are special drivers that have to be installed in order for the computer to run and function properly the drivers that are from the different manufacturers for their devices can be installed after these are. The special drivers like chipset, buss, network, audio, video and others, can be found on the Recovery Disk Set that comes with the computer or on-line in the Support area usually under Drivers and Downloads area [if it is an OEM like Compaq, Dell etc. or found on the motherboard manufacturers site for the computer. These drivers can be downloaded thru any computer and then burned to a separate CD-R for future installation and also for keeping them so you do not have to download them again. There is no specific order that they should be installed in but my own personal preference is in this order:
Chipset Drivers First, Buss Drivers Second, Video Display Drivers Third, Network Drivers Fourth, Audio Drivers Fifth and all others needed afterwards.
Computer Motherboard and Chipset Drivers Found Thru Internet Fixes these are not the Computer Manufacturer drivers.

In the list you might find a BIOS upgrade that has to have a procedure called, “Flashing” done to install this. This should be done with great care if the Flashing is not successful then you will end up with a useless computer and a service call to the manufacturer of the compute... Read more

Update: A document written by the hackers has clarified what they did and what privacy and security risks they believe the PlayStation 3 poses. The PS3's connection to PSN is protected by SSL. As is common to SSL implementations, the identity of the remote server is verified using a list of certificates stored on each PS3. The credit card and other information is sent over this SSL connection. So far so good; this is all safe, and your web browser depends on the same mechanisms for online purchases.
The concern raised by the hackers is that custom firmwares could subvert this system. A custom firmware can include custom certificates in its trusted list. It can also use custom DNS servers. This raises the prospect of a malicious entity operating his own proxies to snaffle sensitive data. He would distribute a custom firmware that had a certificate corresponding to his proxy, and that used a DNS server that directed PSN connections to the proxy. His proxy would decrypt the data sent to it, and then re-encrypt it and forward it to the real PSN servers.

To my knowledge, when an OS such as Windows 8.1 is booted, all firmware/bios drivers are replaced by more appropriate OS drivers in the boot drive during start up. I learnt this happens for the latest versions of Windows. Am I right? Do all bios drivers get replaced? Does this happen with the latest versions of OS X as well?

If this is so, then you can discard firmware as suspected of causing problems on a computer that's already booted up. Unless there's a problem that's causing a driver to remain in RAM after boot.
